Girls in Bars
Olivia moved into the booth and took a deep breath. She wasn't sure what this night was going to hold, or where it was going to go but… it was too late now to change her mind. Her newly single partner was getting them another round.
She watched Elliot at the bar. He was chatting with the bartender Jim. They knew him… not well, but they had been here quite a lot throughout the years, so he was a welcomed acquaintance.
She scanned the rest of the bar. It was busy, but not overflowing with people. An empty table here… one against the wall… a few barstools open and then she saw it.
There were two young girls sitting towards the opposite end of the bar from Elliot. They couldn't have been more than in their early twenties. Both were beautiful. One had long dark hair, black leggings and a Rolling Stones t-shirt on under her jean jacket. Her friend had long hair as well, lighter in color, jeans, a black t-shirt and a cream-colored cover up on.
They both had their phones out but were giggling and the blonder of the two leaned in to whisper to her friend and then they both looked Elliot's way.
Of course, Elliot had no idea what was going on. It was pretty clear they were smitten with him, and Olivia just smiled and shook her head. Olivia let her eyes wander back over Elliot. His jeans fit him just right, and that shirt… that shirt hugged all his muscles. Suddenly her mouth felt dry. She swallowed trying to shake off the images of her partner in his black briefs, his toned body… the spreading redness that came across his neck and chest when she came out of that bathroom half naked…
He then turned around catching her staring at him, and she felt a little blush creep up in her cheeks. She darted her eyes down, and then back up at him. He smiled a little too smugly for her comfort as he came over to the booth with a tray in his hand. Thankfully he didn't call her out on her staring, and he placed the tray at their table smoothly.
"You gonna moonlight as a waiter now?" Liv asked a little smile across her face.
Elliot laughed. "Nah, I use to work at an A&W when I was in high school… lemme tell you, you only spill a tray full of malts and floats once before you figure out the balancing act." He said lifting his eyebrows up at her as she chuckled.
She glanced at the two bottles and noticed there were four shots, a few orange wedges, and a small cup of what looked like sugar and cinnamon. OK, she thought… it looks like they would be here for a while. She felt her stomach swirl a little. This might not be a good idea. Getting drunk with a newly single Elliot. He had already touched her too much… and the light buzz she was feeling at the moment wasn't going to make her think any clearer. Especially after a few shots of what looked like whiskey.
Elliot placed a bottle in front of Liv, and two of the shots, that same little smirk still on his face.
"You trying to get me drunk El?" she said, taking the bottle he put in front of her and taking a big drink out of it.
He just smiled. He held out his bottle to hers, just like he always did when they had a drink after work together.
Ugh… she thought. Why was he so… so… charming? Why couldn't he be annoying her right now. If he had been in a mood, it would be easier to leave after one drink. But he wasn't. He was being charismatic and flirty, and she just couldn't leave now. She lifted her eyebrow at him and leaned her bottle towards his and they clinked the necks together.
Just like they always had.
They both took a drink. Usually after they clinked, they started diving into whatever case it was that brought them to the bar in the first place, but he had been out for a month. What were they going to talk about now that there was no case? Nothing to keep them from… getting too… in depth.
This could be dangerous.
They never really talked about anything deep or personal… no, those things… those things were talked about in silence. With looks… with touches… or every once in a great while out loud in a squad car late at night, or after everyone else went home and it was just them, and it was safe to barely touch on… the complicated.
"So… are you seeing anyone?" he asked smirking as he brought his beer to his lips again.
Well, that was new…
And dangerous…
Olivia had to choke back her surprise. He'd never outright asked her that. He'd asked about her dates… hinted at his obvious distaste for some of them, and a few he had done more than hinted. He had always been jealous of who she was spending her time with… even though he knew he had no say. She always brushed him off like it gave her a bad taste in her mouth, but secretly she loved that he was jealous. It made her feel… attractive… wanted… special… even if it was only in her head.
Jesus. She internally rolled her eyes at herself. She just decided to answer his question… it was just a simple question with a simple answer. That's all it was.
"No…" she said, taking another drink. She swallowed the beer, feeling a little bolder by the sip, and said, "Are you?"
He laughed at that. "Yea… right…" he said and just started to pick at the label of his drink.
"Why is that funny?" she asked. If he could ask her, then she could certainly ask him. And she knew he had seen others when he had been separated from Kathy before. Which hit her like a shocking, choking wind right in her chest, taking her breath away… but she didn't want to think about why it hurt her so much.
"Come on Liv… I've only been single a few weeks." He said softly looking up into her eyes. She felt herself suck in a little sharp breath. His eyes held hers for a second before the weight of those deep pools of blue made her have to blink and look away. Otherwise, they were going to crush her.
"Didn't stop you the last time…" she said a little under her breath.
She really needed to get a grip on herself, but apparently that wasn't happening.
Clearly, they have reversed rolls here. She was usually less than talkative about who she was seeing with him, purposely so, and he was the one who would break that silence because he just had to know. But before she could stop herself, she let that comment slip out.
She couldn't bring herself to look up into his eyes, so she just stared down at the table hoping he'd give her another pass like before and just… sweep that little comment of hers under the rug.
"What does that mean?" he asked.
Shit.
She looked up at him and it was a mistake. He looked… hurt by her comment. His eyebrows were knitted, and he flexed his jaw just a little.
She took another sip of her beer… it was almost gone now, and she was starting to feel it in her limbs. A slight tingle down into her fingers.
"It means… nothing… El… it means nothing. I shouldn't have said it." She said looking apologetic.
He sat there eyeing her cautiously for a moment. As if he was deciding whether he was going to take that answer or press her about. She saw his jaw relax and she let the breath out she hadn't known she was holding.
He was going to accept her answer. Thank God.
Then a slow smile crossed his face.
"Besides… who would want to put up with me?" he said, and his eyes gleamed as he looked right into her.
Olivia felt her breath catch again. Her head was starting to spin a little. She needed to do something to keep him from looking at her like that. Her resolve was weakening, and that little voice in her head that told her… he's married… he loves his wife… you two could never be together… he doesn't want you… had turned in its resignation the second those words left his mouth… we're divorced…
Her ears felt hot. And then she heard the laughter of the two girls still sitting at the other end of the bar.
She turned her head to look at them, and they quickly looked away, giggling.
"Well, I think those two… for starters." Olivia said, grateful his eyes left hers and moved to look at the bar.
"What?" Elliot said looking at the two young women sitting at the bar.
"Don't tell me you haven't noticed? They have been eyeing you since they got here." She said a little smirk on her face.
A smug little smile curled the left side of his lips. They were beautiful he thought. And it did feel good to have two younger women looking at him like that. And maybe in a different life… it would be something he would have been interested in, but there was only one person… in this life.
And she was already sitting across from him.
"No… I didn't notice actually." He said. And it was the truth. He hadn't seen them enter or seen them at the bar. He had been too distracted by waiting for Olivia… trying not to think about her in her black lace bra… at least long enough for him to tell her he was divorced.
"Oh… ok…" Liv said shaking her head at him and finishing her beer. Just then the two girls must have gotten up the courage or had enough to drink to summon the courage to come over to their table.
"Hi…" the brunette one said. "Have we met? My friend and I think we know you from somewhere." She said, a big smile on her face. She looked over to Liv and Liv politely smiled back at her.
Elliot grinned at her, "No… I think I'd remember." He said, playing to his audience… and trying to get under Liv's skin.
Liv smiled and rolled her eyes. Yup… he was quite the charmer.
"My name is Taylor… this is my friend Victoria. Are you sure we haven't met?" she asked again. The two of them were doe-eyed and sweet, both stuck in the pools of blue of one Elliot Stabler.
"Well… I'm Elliot… this is Olivia… we're both detectives with Manhattan Special Victims. So, I don't think we've met before." He said smiling a little lopsided. That little dimple of his caused a flash of heat to run through Olivia, and clearly it affected the other two women as well. Olivia saw the flush in their cheeks. It could have been from alcohol, but she'd seen other women melt just like they were from that look of his.
Herself included.
"Wait…" the blonde one said putting her hand up. "Is your last name Stabler?" she questioned.
Elliot looked a little shocked, and Olivia looked at Elliot just as shocked.
"Yea… how did you know that?" he questioned, more than intrigued.
"You're Kathleen's dad… aren't you?" she said.
Olivia almost laughed out loud but bit her bottom lip hard to stop herself.
Elliot felt a blush spread across his face. "Guilty…" he said swallowing and smiling at them again. He couldn't believe this was happening.
"That's where I know you from, I've seen a picture of you in her phone." She said.
"Oh yea! Kathleen's dad… of course." Taylor said. They both giggled a little realizing they were thirsting over their friend's dad.
"Well, it was nice meeting you… Mr. Stabler…" Victoria said, smiling at him. "Yea… you too Olivia…" Taylor added. They both laughed a little still quite smitten with Elliot.
Olivia smiled and nodded at the two girls.
"You too…" Elliot said, laying on that sweet smile of his.
The girls turned laughing to themselves. Elliot and Olivia looked at each other as the listened to the conversation the two girls had as they walked away arm in arm.
"Man… his partner is hot… like dirty hot…" Victoria said.
"Yea, but Daddy Stabler…" Taylor said, then giggled looking at Victoria.
"Oh yea… definitely a DILF…" Victoria said, and then the women were out of ear shot.
Olivia let out a big laugh, and took Elliot's beer, taking a sip before giving it back to him.
"What the hell is a DILF?" Elliot asked after Liv was done laughing. He took his drink that Liv had just drank from and brought it to his lips, taking a long slow gulp.
"Dad I'd like to fuck…" Liv said quickly without thinking.
A very smug look crossed his face. "Oh…" he said, taking another sip. His ego was feeling quite boosted at the moment.
"Oh geez El… your loving this aren't you?" she said rolling her eyes.
"Hey… don't forget… they thought you were hot too… dirty hot…" he said, a little bit of mischief sparked in his eyes.
"Well, I've had worse offers… much worse." She said going to reach for his beer again. But Elliot pulled it away before she could grab it.
"Wait… what does that mean?" he asked suddenly very fascinated by her comment.
"Oh no… if you're gonna ask me if I've ever been with a woman, I'm gonna need another drink." Liv said, trying again to reach for his beer, but he moved it again.
Elliot couldn't believe they were even having this conversation. He felt his pulse start to beat a little harder, and his temperature went up.
"We have drinks…" he said pointing to the shots on the table that neither one of them had touched yet.
Olivia looked down at them, and it was tempting. She really wanted to just down both of the ones sitting in front of her, but she needed to pace herself. She was only two beers in, and already having a hard time keeping things from coming out of her mouth.
Liv laughed a throaty little laugh and stood up. "Listen… I'm going to need a chaser if I'm going to do these shots with you, and since you don't want to share…" she trailed off and eyed the bar and started to walk away.
He grabbed her hand and pulled her back to him. She was standing in front of him, close to him… to close. She could smell his cologne, his aftershave… it was invading her nostrils making her head spin. She felt the scorching heat of his hand on her skin, and she felt her pulse beat in her ears.
"Liv… you know I'd share anything with you…" he said, his voice all deep and raspy. It hit her right in the pit of her stomach and between her legs. She sucked in a breath and smiled soflty as she tried to turn away.
But he pulled her back to him, and his eyes locked on hers. And she was lost. She felt like she might faint.
He slowly pulled out some cash from his back pocket and slipped it into her front pocket. Her heart almost stopped.
"It's my turn to buy…" he said, and let her hand go.
