Many liberties were taken with the lore of both universes. Featuring a much darker and more grounded interpretation of RWBY as well as a very nerfed geass power. Also, this is my first published fic, so please do give me feedback on it.
He was running through a steel corridor. He did not know why, just that he had to keep running. A sense of desperation and dread overriding all reason, he had to stop... some kind of doom. Frantically searching through the twisting maze of steel, he was pushing himself beyond his limits. He was suffocating. Every time he drew breath it was like breathing through a thick cloth. His eyes were tearing up as well and his vision was blurry. And yet again he did not understand the reason for any of it.
Finally, he saw sunlight coming out of one of the corridors, and he ran towards it. But before he could get far, several guards moved to stop him. Men with fine uniforms and spears blocked his way. He was looking past them. Looking past them even though he could not make out anything anyway. He heard a gunshot, then terrified screaming. The guards too stopped still and ceased resisting him when they heard it. Another gunshot followed. Soon his ears were deafened by the sounds of gunfire and the screams of countless people. He covered his head as if to shut out the horrible sound. Like it would disappear if he pretended it wasn't there. Though he could still hear the voices, he could only make one of them out. It was a young girl's voice, she was calling out to him. "Violet," she said.
"Violet? Earth to Violet." Ruby Rose was next to him, looking slightly concerned. "You there?"
"Sis?" Violet woke up, gasping for air. A Featureless interior, a table, and a light? Where the hell am I? Some kind of interrogation room?
Ruby gave him a small smile, "You fell asleep big brother. Are you good? You were crying. You must be tired from tonight."
That's right, I was out shopping with his little sister when a band of robbers attacked the dust shop we were in. The two of us defeated the criminals, but their leader escaped. Now we're waiting in a police station.
"It's nothing. Just a bad dream." He wiped the tears from his face and tried his best to smile.
Ruby's scowled at that, "A bad dream? You mean the one with your mother? Or was it the other one?"
"The other one. The one where I'm always running towards somewhere. Always dreading something. Ugh." His head was killing him.
A light cough diverted his attention. He didn't even notice that there was someone behind him. A blonde woman in formal clothing towered over him. Ruby looked intimidated, "We were waiting for a huntress to arrive, remember?"
A strict female voice shouted, "Names?"
He composed himself. If he was good at anything, it was concealing his emotions "I am Violet Rose, and this is my little sister Ruby Rose. Now, I understand we should have called the police on the robbers but they were-"
"Silence! What's done is done." She turned her gaze towards Ruby, who shrank into herself, "And Ruby can talk on her own, can't you?"
"Y-yes. I c-can speak on my own."
Seeing how nervous she was, she swooped in to question Ruby instead. She spoke with an authoritative voice that made them both shiver to their cores, "What you did tonight was very reckless. You could have killed someone. Where did you get those weapons of yours, and who taught you how to use them?"
"W-well there was that one professor, who's my uncle, who's the coolest person ever and he also-"
"We are students at Signal Combat Academy." Violet interjected, "And my sister designed our weapons." The blonde huntress raised her eyebrows in surprise. Her reaction made the two siblings feel a little better.
The woman sighed, "Signal academy students… Ordinarily, I'd let you two go with a slap on the wrist. However, there is someone else who wants to meet you."
She stepped back, and a middle-aged man with gray hair and spectacles walked in through the door. He carried a plate of cookies and a far kinder demeanor than the huntress who was just interrogating them.
"Ruby Rose... You have silver eyes." He examined her, and she felt as if he was staring into her very soul.
"Uhhh..."
"And you Violet, your eyes… I guess it's no secret why you're named that. They're quite rare too. I'm not sure what to make of it. They're natural I assume?"
Violet looked at him with equal parts bafflement and amazement. Is this guy some kind of eye freak? "You'd be correct. And… Are you who I think you are?"
He put down his plate of cookies in front of them. Violet ignored it, but Ruby started consuming them in a frenzy. The man chuckled at her before looking back to Violet "I believe so. I am Ozpin, headmaster of Beacon Huntsman Academy." At this Ruby stopped her eating and looked at him in awe.
He sat down and continued, "I'm quite impressed at what you've done tonight, and I wanted to talk to the two of you. Now tell me, since you're studying at Signal I assume you want to become huntsmen in the future?"
Ruby replied, "More than anything in the world." Violet nodded in agreement. He heard stories of people getting accepted like this ahead of time. Is this an interview? If I really could get in ahead of schedule, it would speed up my plans considerably. This was a golden opportunity, I had to get in.
Ozpin looked them over again, "You haven't touched the cookies, Violet. Is there anything else I can get you? Tea? Coffee perhaps? We'll be waiting for your parents to pick you up. So please don't be shy, ask away."
"I've heard you are an avid chess player. I don't suppose you've we've time for a game?"
"As much as I'd love to take you up on that, I doubt they have a game set here." He stayed silent for a while, deep in thought. Finally, he asked Ruby, "Why do you want to be a huntress?"
She replied enthusiastically, "I want to slay monsters, and I want to help people, and- and my sister is going to be a huntress too! Actually my whole family is full of huntsmen and they're so cool!" She was gasping for air by the end of it. Ozpin chuckled slightly at her innocent joy, "I think you'll make an amazing huntress Ruby. And you Violet?"
Seeing Ozpin turn to him, Violet speaks, "This world is... full of injustice, and becoming a huntsman is the most effective way of righting society."
Ozpin's expression grew a little more dim at that, "You do know the primary task of a huntsman is to slay grimm, not people? It certainly can happen on the job but it's quite unusual for one as young as yourself to desire that part, much less admit to it."
Damn it, I'm going to blow my chance, he thought. "Well, oftentimes people can be far more cruel than grimm. It's only logical to want to help keep people safe from other people." He gave Ozpin an earnest smile, even though he was dying on the inside.
"But unlike grimm, people can be reasoned with. You could do so much more as say a policymaker, couldn't you? It's only logical after all."
Is he testing me? "You must know that huntsmen are overrepresented in such positions. Were I to want that eventually, going to Beacon would still make the most sense." He met Ozpin's calm gaze with his own, utterly sure of his words.
The blonde huntress gave him a suspicious glare. Ruby looked at Violet and then at Ozpin, "Uhh... My brother is just like that sir, he always wants to do everything for everyone."
Ozpin's eyes narrow, "You know, Violet, that as many as one in ten huntsmen end up going rogue during their careers. As such I have a duty to make sure they are of appropriate moral character."
Violet was slightly taken aback. He put on his best innocent smile and said, "I don't understand, Professor. I didn't fail, did I?" Ruby gave him a look of concern.
Ozpin stared at him for a while. His face had lost some of its kindness by now, and both Ruby and Violet felt very uncomfortable. He glanced at Ruby, and gave a soft sigh, his expression returning to normal, "Not at all. In fact, I would like to invite you two to Beacon Academy. The school year should be starting in a week." Ruby jumped up in joy while Violet slouched in his chair at the relief. He gave them a nod and got up from his chair.
Before exiting the room, he turned around and said, "I sense that you are a man of conviction, Violet. Hold on to that conviction, but temper it with patience. There will be a time for it, and undue recklessness will be your downfall."
Later that night, after the Rose siblings had left the station, the blonde huntress that had apprehended them asked Ozpin, "Oz, are you absolutely sure that this was the right decision?"
"Nothing can be known for certain, Glynda." He sipped his coffee, "I think Ruby is a safe bet, as for her brother..."
"That's who I was worried about. He seemed very utilitarian and... ambitious. And you know how his kind tend to be exploited by Sa-"
"And if I were to separate them, he would definitely grow bitter over it." He sipped his coffee again, "We're overthinking this, he'll make a fine huntsman. Besides, we shouldn't cast premature judgment on such a young student. We've got four years to get to know him, right?"
