Chapter 5: Dragonborn Revealed

Whiterun

After Issei woke up the next morning, he put on his armor and made his way to the Jarl. Along the way, he met a familiar face, Ria.

When Ria saw him, she said. "Hey, it's you. From two days ago. How have you been?"

Issei replied. "Same old. I just came back last night. I am heading to see the Jarl."

Ria then said. "Okay, maybe later, you can visit Jorrvaskr and think about joining the Companions."

Issei said. "Sure when I have the time. I need to get going. Nice seeing you again."

He then made his way to Dragonsreach and found Farengar in his workshop. However, he wasn't alone, there was another person in the room who was wearing a hooded coat that covered their face.

When Issei entered the room, Farengar saw him and said. "Ah, there you are. Have you brought the stone?"

Issei then said. "Yeah, I have your stone. Right after I kick your ass, I will give it to you."

Shocked, Farengar said. "What did I do?!"

Issei replied. "You sent me to a mountain where it was snowing, ran into bandits who tried to kill me, killed a giant ass spider, got attacked by zombies and traps that were in every nook and cranny of the place and then got attacked by one zombie who had a sword that can freeze stuff! Give me three reasons not to turn you to dust right now!"

As he readied is dragon gauntlet, Farengar said. "You did it for a great purpose!."

[Boost!]x5

"I know that deep down in your heart and soul you are good inside!."

Issei aims at him.

Farengar then said. "How about 300 gold pieces and a spell tome?!"

Thinking about it, Issei said. "Alright."

As he lowered his weapon, Issei handed the Dragonstone to Farengar. When Farengar places the Dragonstone on the table, he took out the Spell Tome: Flame.

As he handed the book to Issei, he said. "What is this?"

Farengar said. "This is a spell tome. Open it and you will see."

When Issei opened the book, energy started to flow out of it and into Issei's hands.

"What was that?" Issei asked.

Before Farengar could answer, Irileth rushed into the room and said. "We have a problem. A dragon's been sited nearby."

Alerted, Issei said. "Where?"

Irileth replied. "Speak with the Jarl, he has a witness."

At that moment, Issei and Irileth rushed up to the Jarl with a Whiterun Guard. When the two approached Balgruuf said to the guard. "Now tell me what happen."

The guard said. "I saw it coming from the south. It was fast, faster than anything I've ever seen."

Balgruuf asked. "What did it do? Is it attacking the watchtower?"

The guard replied. "No my lord, it was just circling overhead when I left. I've never ran so fast in my life, I thought it would come after me for sure."

"Good work son, we'll take it from here." Balgruuf said. "Head down to the barracks for some food and rest, you've earned it."

As the guard walked past Issei and Irileth, Balgruuf turned to them and said. "Irileth, I want you to get more men to that tower and deal with the dragon."

"Consider it done." Irileth said as she rushed out of there.

Balgruuf then turns to Issei and said. "I know we are asking too much, but can you help us? You dealt with this kind of situation before, which means that you are an expertise at this."

Issei said. "I'll be at the front gate."

As he walks away, Balgruuf said. "You will be greatly rewarded for this."

Issei then said. "Just hope that I don't die for this!"

After a few minutes, Issei met up with Irileth and five other guards near the main gate.

"Would you call yourselves Nords if you ran from this monster? Are gonna let me face this thing alone? But it's more than our honor at stake here. Think about it, the first dragon seen in Skyrim since the last age! The glory of killing it is ours! So what do you say? Shall we go and kill us a dragon?!" After the speech from Irileth, they all were cheering.

Irileth said. "Let's move out."

'Hmph. This woman, she's a hell of a soldier.' Issei thought.

[Indeed.] Ddraig agreed.

They marched their way to the western watchtower. Once they were there, they saw the destruction that the dragon caused. Using his new dragon hearing Issei was able to hear a guard under piles of blocks. Using his strength, he removed all the block off of him.

"Hey!" Issei cried. "I found one!"

Irileth rushed towards him and said. "What happen?"

The guard replied. "The…dragon…it…attacked us…"

"With all these flames here no shit." Issei said.

Suddenly an echoing roar had everyone shook.

The guard said. "Kinerith save us, hear he comes again!"

Irileth ordered the soldiers. "Ready your bows and make every arrow count!"

The dragon was flying in the skies roaring. This dragon wasn't like the one in Helgen, this one was dark red. With a roar, it fired fire from its mouth to the ground.

"Everyone attack!" Irileth cried.

As all the Whiterun guards and Irileth used their arrows, Issei decides to take out his plasma cannons and fired a blasts of energy towards the dragon. Although the dragon took damage, but it wasn't enough to kill it. Everyone around saw the cannons on his shoulders and were amazed. But their thoughts were cut short when the dragon landed in front of them. With a loud roar, it sends a massive blast of fire towards them. Once everyone rolled out of the way, Issei rushed to the dragon with Ascalon in hand. When the sword made contact with the dragon's skin, just as he thought, the dragon slaying sword still worked well even in another world. The dragon was now experiencing pain like no other.

With another roar, the dragon flew off towards the sky. As everyone shot their arrows, Issei fired his dragon shots. The dragon crashed into the tower that sends piles of stones to the ground. Most of the guards dodged the stones, but Irileth took one of the stones on her head and caused her to fall to the ground. As she tried to get up, the dragon landed in front of her. Knowing Irileth is in trouble, Issei rushed in between her and the dragon. As the dragon fired its fire, all Issei could do is hold Irileth close to him and raised his left hand. All of a sudden, a barrier of white light appeared in front of Issei's hand and protected them from the fire. As Issei looked up, he saw that the fire was going around him.

'Holy shit!' Issei thought to himself. 'Did I used magic?!'

[Indeed you did partner, and I must say I'm interested to see what other types of magic you'll learn.]

After the dragon finished its attack, Issei stood up. When he was about to charge at the dragon. Before the dragon flew off once more, Issei manages to get on top of it and the two flew up to the sky.

"HOLY SHIT!" Issei yelled as he was flying in the skies with the dragon.

[Did you forget your balance breaker gives you wings?]

"No, just don't want to scare anyone on ground level."

[Whatever, your call I guess.]

Regaining his cool, Issei tried to make his way to the head. Once he did, he started stabbing it in the neck, amazingly penetrating it. Of all his weapons, the most effective he could tell was Ascalon, no surprise considering it's a dragon slaying sword. As the dragon cried in pain, it started to make its way to the ground. Once they crashed, Issei fell off the dragon and got up. The dragon prepared to fire again when Issei thought of an idea.

"Okay." Issei said. "Let's see what else I can do."

He put his sword away, raised his hands and waited for the dragon to attack. Right before the dragon fired, Issei unleashed a blast of fire from his hands and into the dragon's mouth. Now that the dragon was taking damage, Issei decides to finish this. He got his sword, rushed up to the dragon, jumped on top of the back of its head and stabbed it in the middle of the head piercing the brain, the dragon was finally dead.

There was a moment of silence when the guards started to cheer in excitement.

"He did it! He killed the dragon!"

"Thank the Divines!"

"Wow." Issei said to himself as he looked at his hands. "Did I just used magic?"

Irileth walked up to him and said. "Issei, you did it."

Feeling proud of himself, Issei said. "I guess I did. I am awesome! Did you guys see that?!"

Before anyone could answer, everyone saw the dragon burning away. In a matter of seconds, the skins burned off and the bones were starting to show. All of a sudden, the dragon's energy force was being transferred to Issei himself. As Issei was feeling a bit weird.

'Ddraig, what's happening?!' Issei asked nervously.

Ddraig answered. [The dragon's soul, it's changing the armor. No, more than that, it's making the armor adapt to the new world.]

The metal material was changing to that of dragon scales, Issei started feeling what feels like wool under the armor, the green jewels were no longer part of the armor with only a single jewel left on the Boosted Gear and finally Ascalon now has its own sheath.

(Since there are multiple guards in one area I'll address them by numbers so y'all won't be confused.)

When everyone gathered around, guard-1 said. "I don't believe it! Your Dragonborn!"

Issei looked confused. "Dragonborn? What do you mean? What even is that?"

The guard said. "In the very oldest tales, back when there were still dragons in Skyrim. The Dragonborn would kill dragons and steal their power. That's what you did isn't? Absorb the dragon's power?"

Issei said. "Honestly, I don't know. All I know is that some sort of energy went from the dragon's body, went to my armor and gave it a new makeover."

Guard-2 spoke. "Dragonborn? What are you talking about? I've never heard of Tiber Septim killing any dragons."

Guard-1 said. "There weren't any dragons then idiot. Their just started coming back now in.. forever."

Guard-3 said. "Come on Irileth? Tell us, do you believe in this Dragonborn business?"

Irileth said. "Hmph, some of you would be better off keeping quiet than flapping your gums on matters you don't know anything about. Here's a dead dragon, and that is something I definitely understand. Now we know we can kill them, but I don't need some mythical 'Dragonborn.' Someone who can put down a dragon is more than enough for me."

Issei thought. 'At least she's honest.'

Guard-1 said. "You wouldn't understand Housecal, you ain't a Nord."

Irileth scoffed. "I've been all across Tamriel! I've seen stuff just as outlandish as this. I advise you all to trust the strength of your arms over tales and legends."

Irileth turns to Issei. "Go to the Jarl and tell him what happened, we'll try to clean up this mess."

And with that, Issei walked away. After a few minutes,Issei made his way to the Dragonsreach. Before he opened the door, a thunderous roar cried in the air. "DOV AH KIN!"

Issei practically covered his ears when he heard that. Ignoring what happen, he entered the Dragonsreach. When he walked up to Balgruuf, Issei saw another man standing next to him. This was Balgruuf's brother, Hrongar.

When the two saw Issei, Balgruuf said. "So, is the dragon dead?"

Issei replied. "Yeah, just killed it myself. Stabbed it in wthe brain."

"This is great news." Balgruuf said. "What else has happen?"

Issei then said. "Well…I don't know what happen, but when I killed it, I somehow 'absorbed' its soul as your guards described it. Not only that, it also changed my armor as you can see. Also, some of your guards kept calling me Dragonborn."

"Then the legends are true." Balgruuf said. "You are the Dragonborn."

"Okay." Issei said. "What exactly is a Dragonborn?"

Hrongar replied. "A Dragonborn is one who has the blood of a dragon in them. Those who have the dragon's blood will now the way of the shout like any other Nord."

"Um." Issei said. "I don't know how the hell I can do that."

Balgruuf said. "Just concentrate."

Issei took off his helmet and looked away from them and towards the fireplace. Issei closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and when he opened his eyes, he shouted. "FUS!"

Issei released a small blast of force that nearly put out the fire. He was amazed of what he did.

"It is true." Balgruuf said. "You are the Dragonborn."

Hrongar then said. "Then that shout just a moment ago, it was the Greybeards calling."

"Greybeards?" Issei asked. "Who are they?"

Balgruuf replied. "Masters of the Way of the Voice. They possess shouts so powerful, they can kill a person with just a whisper."

"I see." Issei said. "And I am involved how?"

Hrongar said. "Didn't you hear their calling? Dovahkiin, it means Dragonborn. Not only did they call you, but they seek an audience with you."

Not getting around the idea that his was this Dragonborn, Issei said. "Okay, let's say that I am this 'Dragonborn'. Where am I going to find these Greybeards?"

Balgruuf said. "You will find them at their monastery in High Hrothgar, it is located at Throat of the World, the highest mountain in Skyrim. Travel to Ivarstead, from there you will take the 7,000-steps to reach the monastery."

"Wait a minute." Issei said. "You want me to walk into an unknown place, walk up 7,000 steps just to meet these Greybeards? One question: How am I going to get there? I just got here in Skyrim with no knowledge of the landmarks. So how am I going to find Ivarstead?"

All of a sudden, the one jewel on the boosted gear started to glow. The next thing impressed Issei, images started to come up in a screen in 3D appeared out the gauntlet . The image that appeared was an image of a huge mountain and at the bottom of the mountain was a village.

"Whoa." Issei said. "Now that is something new. Never knew the Boosted Gear can do that."

Ddraig said. [it didn't, must've been the result of absorbing that dragon's soul.]

As Balgruuf saw the image, he said. "That is it. That is Ivarstead. Now you know where to go. But first, we celebrate."

"Celebrate?" Issei asked. "Celebrate what?"

Balgruuf replied. "Your victory today. Not often when one kills a dragon everyday. And for that, we celebrate."

Later that afternoon, the throne room was packed with people drinking and eating to their hearts content. In the center of the area, Issei had his helmet off and eating the food in front of him.

As he was eating, Irileth, Avenicci and Balgruuf walked up to him and Balgruuf said. "Issei, we thank you for saving Whiterun. We are here to give you your reward."

"No that is fine." Issei said. "That's alright you don't need to."

Balgruuf said. "We don't want your excuses. As Jarl, I hereby name you Thane of Whiterun. As Thane, I hereby give you the Axe of Whiterun."

As he hands Issei the Axe of Whiterun, Balgruuf said. "Avenicci and Irileth here have something else to say to you."

Avenicci walked up to Issei, handed him a key along with a bag that contains 1,000 gold pieces and said. "Here is your reward gold that includes you previous task along with the key to your new house that is available next to the blacksmith. Everything is ready and set up."

Irileth then said. "And as being a Thane to Whiterun, we are also giving your own Housecarl."

"And a Housecarl is?" Issei asked.

Irileth replied "A Housecarl is someone who serves their Thane in any way they can provide."

Issei said. "They're not slaves are they?"

"What?" Balgruuf said. "No, they are servants who serve their Thane on their own will."

Not being convinced, Issei said. "Sorry, but where I am from, servants were being treated as either cannon fodder or pleasure slaves and very few masters treated them fairly. I was a once a servant to a master who saved my life and treated her servants like family. But that all changed when I heard her saying that saving me was a mistake."

"Please." Irileth whispered. "Just give them a chance. I promise you, they will be a great help."

Issei sighed in defeat and said. "Fine, you can go ahead and bring them."

"Great." Irileth said. "I will go and get her."

As she walked away, Issei said. "Alright, I'll be here waiting for her."

[So, your new servant's female? Let's hope you got your perverted tendencies in check.]

'Ddraig, my favorite dragon Ddraig, you really are a soul of little faith.'

[For good reason.]

Lydia was in her room polishing her armor and weapons. She just recently arrived to Whiterun from a job that involved with bandits. When she got back, she heard of a dragon attacking one of the towers. Lydia couldn't believe that there was an actual dragon in Skyrim. However, the dragon was already dead when she arrived and heard that a mysterious warrior killed that dragon. People around her started calling this person the Dragonborn, the one of legend. But she out those thoughts aside and continued polishing her armor. As she was doing that, Irileth entered her room.

When Lydia saw her, she quickly got up, bowed in respect and said. "Irileth, I did not know you were coming."

"At ease." Irileth said. "I am here to bring you some news."

Lydia then said. "If it's about the Dragonborn, I already know about it."

Irileth shook her head and said. "That Dragonborn was named Thane if you didn't know."

"I see." Lydia said as she got her Nord ale. "Is there anything else?"

As she drank her ale, Irileth said. "I have recommended you to be his Housecarl."

At that moment, Lydia spits out her ale when she heard this surprising news.

She turns to Irileth and said. "Did you say that I am going to be his Housecarl?!"

Irileth replied. "Yes."

"But why?" Lydia said. "I thought you said that…"

Irileth then said. "I know, I know. But this one is different than the others. I believe that this one is the right one for you."

Lydia just looked down and turned away from Irileth. She then gripped her shirt real tight trying to hold her tears.

"A-A-Are you sure that he'll take me as his Housecarl?" Lydia asked. "I mean, what happen the last time…"

"The last time we did not know that your last Thane was a bastard." Irileth said. "If I had known that he was beating you, I would have killed him."

"It's not your fault." Lydia said. "I should have told you about him sooner."

She then said. "And I am suppose to be a Nord. My kind always shows valor and bravery. And what did I do? I just submitted to his beatings!"

Tears were coming down her face. Irileth walked up to her, gave her a loving hug and said. "There, there, young one. I believe you don't have to worry about this one."

Lydia looked at her and asked. "Why is that?"

Irileth replied. "At first, I thought he was one of those immature idiot travelers who just want profits. But after that fight with the dragon and nearly sacrificing his life to save mine, I didn't think he would do that. If he was one of those cold hearted bastards, he would have left me to die."

"But he didn't?" Lydia asked.

"He didn't." Irileth said. "And I think he is the one for you."

There was a brief moment of silence when Lydia finally said. "Okay, I give him a chance. But if anything happens to me…"

"We know." Irileth said. "Now get yourself ready, young one. Shouldn't keep you new Thane waiting."

Lydia smiled and said. "I'll be there in a second."
