This time, she had a clear advantage over her opponent, but while Flannery was inexperienced as a gym leader, and doesn't know a lot of stuff about the gym itself, and the business, no one will say that she is not a good trainer, who hasn't trained her Pokémon well. This was proven when Slugma, was able to hold its own against an opponent who had a type advantage over it, until, Slugma was able to evolve in the middle of the battle.
From there on, Magcargo had a power advantage over Corphish, even though it had type disadvantage. In the end, Magcargo won the battle, giving Flannery an advantage in the battle, and leaving Serena down to her final Pokémon.
Serena then thought if she should go with her Delphox, for clear win, or if she should risk using another of her Pokémon, and potentially lose the match. She ended up taking a risk, and sent her Torkoal. She was sure that her Torkoal would defeat Magcargo, and then Flannery would sent out her own Torkoal. That would leave the final round between two turtle Pokémon, to decide on who the winner of the match, is.
That's exactly what happened. Serena's Torkoal defeated Magcargo, and drew the match into a tie, leaving both trainers with a single Pokémon each. Just as Serena predicted, Flannery sent out her own Torkoal, and the final round started.
This round was the longest, as the two Pokémon, were throwing their attacks at each other left and right, some hitting the target, some missing. The thing is, they are the same Pokémon, and in those situations, usually the stronger would win. In this situation though, Serena's Torkoal and Flannery's Torkoal, had equal fire power, and skill. The battle in the end, was decided by the endurance, and by the fact that Flannery has made a mistake of using Overheat, a little too soon, so every next one, was weaker than the previous. This has given Serena a chance to have her Torkoal use Overheat, when Flannery's Torkoal was barely standing. Thus, the attack hit head on, and Serena has won the match, and her fifth gym badge in the Hoenn Region.

Serena and May went back to the Pokémon Center, after Serena's battle was finished. The two were planning to stay there, until they find out what will happen with Ash. Ash sighed. "Fine," he said. "But we have to find another way to deal with my problem. I can't let what happened on that mountain, happen again. Not only did I kill many people and Pokémon, I almost caused the deaths of you two, and millions of other people, who would have died because of the volcano's eruption."
Serena glared at Ash for a few moments, before she stood from her seat, and left the cafeteria, leaving Ash and May, behind.
Ash sighed as he saw Serena walk away, before he looked at May, hoping she will see how point of view, and agree with him.
She didn't. Instead, May got up, and left the cafeteria as well. She went after Serena.
Ash stayed alone in the Pokémon Center Cafeteria, thinking about what to do now, and what will happened with Serena and May. At that point, he had no idea, if the two girls, will continue to travel with him.
Ash arrived at the Lavaridge Town Gym, all alone.
Serena and May didn't return after they left him alone in the Pokémon Center, and after sometime, he decided to just go and finish his gym battle. After the battle, he will look for the two of them, and see what they are going to do from then on.
Ash also didn't see Caroline and Jane, after he left them passed out, in his old hospital room, so he doesn't know where they are, or what they are doing. Truthfully speaking, he isn't even interested that much in knowing. Ash nodded, before he asked. "Any relation to the old man Moore? I know that he was supposed to be the gym leader here, but I guess you replaced him."
Flannery smiled. "Yes, he is my grandfather," she said. "He retired from being a gym leader few days ago, and I took over. He left on a journey less than an hour ago."
"Is that so," Ash question, and Flannery nodded. "Well then, I hope you are good in Pokémon battling, because I'm here to challenge you."
Flannery smirked. "I'm good enough to be a gym leader," she said, "though I doubt I'm good enough to battle against someone like you."
Ash shrugged. "It would depend on the Pokémon I'm using," he admitted. "If I were to use my older Pokémon, you probably wouldn't be able to win, but since I will be using only my newer Pokémon, then you have a chance."
Flannery gained a thoughtful expression on her face, before few seconds later, she said. "Actually, I would like it if you could use some of your stronger Pokémon," Ash said confused by her request, and it was shown on his face. Flannery saw Ash's confusion, so she explained her reason.
"A gym leader almost never has a chance to battle against champion level trainers and their Pokémon, so since you are here, I can't waste this opportunity. I want a chance to battle your strong Pokémon, and I will use my strongest Pokémon, for a one-on-one battle. This will give me a chance to see how good I am compared to you and other trainers of your level. On top of that, I'm sure that I will be able to learn something from battling against you, regardless if you want to give me some pointers of not."
Ash thought about this, and in the end he agreed. Normally he wouldn't as he wants to give his newer Pokémon a chance to battle, so they can get stronger and gain battle experience, but he will make an exception this one time. Flannery has gotten him interested, and he has decided to fulfill this one request of hers. He will also make sure that she learns something, from this battle.
"Ok," Ash said with a small smirk on his face. "I accept your request."
Flannery smiled widely. She was happy beyond belief, as she has a chance to battle against someone she looks up to. Ash is someone she wants to be like, at least as a Pokémon Trainer, and now she has a chance to see how close, or how far she is. This is her dream-come-true, and she will make sure she doesn't disappoint her hero, when he was nice enough to grant her, her request.
"Great," Flannery said enthusiastically! "Let's go to the gym, and have our battle. I can't wait."
Ash smiled at Flannery. From what he has seen of her before when he was spying on Serena and May, and from what he sees now, she seems to be very happy girl, who at times seems to be a little empty-headed, and forgetful, but overall, she is a nice girl and a decent trainer. Ash is sure that she would have given him a very good battle, if they were to have a regular gym battle. Because of her request, though, he isn't sure. It would depend on which Pokémon she chooses, and how good she trained it.

They have arrived inside of the gym, few minutes ago, when Flannery called for a referee, (arranged by her grandfather, to come as soon as he left), while Ash used his Pokedex to call Professor Oak, and have one of his older and stronger Pokémon, be sent to him.
Ash didn't know which Pokémon will Flannery use, but he is sure that it will be a Fire Type. Ash could have had one of his stronger Water Types, be sent to him, but in the end, he decided to fight fire with fire, so he had one of his Fire Pokémon, sent through his specially-made, Pokedex.
Once the referee has arrived, and after Ash had the Poke Ball of one of his older Pokémon in his hand, the two stood on the battlefield, and were ready to battle.
Unbeknownst to Ash, someone else has arrived in the gym, and were watching the match from the shadows, unseen by Ash, Flannery or the referee.
"This is the official gym battle between the Lavaridge Gym leader, Flannery, and the challenger, Ash Ketchum," the referee announced the match! "As per the agreement by the two trainers, this will be a one-on-one battle! Are you both ready?" The referee asked, and after he got two nods from Flannery and Ash, he told them to release their Pokémon, at the same time.
"Come out Blaziken/Typhlosion!" Flannery and Ash released their Pokémon at the same time.
The two Pokémon, turned out to be the final forms of the two fire starters, one from the Hoenn Region, while Ash's is the fire starter from the Johto Region.
The moment the two Pokémon came out of their Poke Balls, they stood ready for the battle, especially after they saw who stands on the opposite side of the battlefield. As fire Pokémon, they are very competitive, and they don't like to lose, especially against other fire types. As such, the two Pokémon were pumped-up for the battle, like they haven't been in a while.
"Wohoo," Flannery shouted with stars in her eyes, when she saw Ash's Typhlosion! "That Typhlosion looks so cool! I haven't seen it since the Silver Conference, and it looks even stronger then then. I bet it's even stronger than the one my grandpa has and they've been battling together for decades."
"I put a lot of time in training all my Pokémon, Typhlosion included," Ash spoke, "as such, I do hope that he is strong, especially since he hasn't had a battle since the Silver Conference."
Typhlosion looked at Ash, and narrowed his eyes at him, before he said. "You should know better than to assume that I would allow myself to get weaker, or to stagnate. I'm a Fire Type. We fire types don't get weaker with time, we grow stronger and stronger, and we never stop training."
Ash smirked at his Pokémon. "Well then, I guess you won't have a problem to prove that," Ash said to his Pokémon. "Right?"
Typhlosion looked away from Ash and toward his opponent, who was standing in front of Flannery, and was looking at Typhlosion with narrowed eyes.
"Right!" Typhlosion said shortly, and that was it. He was not happy with Ash doubting him, so he is going to tear his opponent a new asshole, just to prove that he is even more powerful than the last time Ash saw him, and that he is just as powerful as the two Charizard's, Ash has. Those two are considered the strongest fire types Ash has, and as such, they are someone Typhlosion strives to overcome, and surpass. Now is the time to show to Ash that, even if he isn't on their level just yet, he is almost there.
Seeing that Ash and Flannery are ready, the referee started the match. "BEGIN!"
Flannery started the match by having her Blaziken use, Bulk-Up, in order to increase its attack power. She then moved and used Flamethrower, but Ash countered by having his Typhlosion release Smokescreen, to hide himself, making Blaziken's attack, even though empowered, miss his opponent, as it couldn't see it.
Ash then told his Pokémon to use Swift, and Typhlosion released a bunch of yellow stars from his month, which spread all over the field, and regardless of the Smokescreen, which was hiding Blaziken as much as Typhlosion, the attack hit Flannery's fire Type.
Blaziken was hit, but he wasn't taken out, or hurt too much for that matter. It is too tough for that. Flannery smiled, and then had her Pokémon use Fire Blast.
By then, the Smokescreen has disappeared, and both Pokémon could see each other. Ash had his Pokémon, use Flamethrower, to counter Blaziken's Fire Blast. Normally, Fire Blast is more powerful than the Flamethrower, but Ash's Pokémon is much stronger then the regular Typhlosion, so it was easy for him to counter a more powerful attack, with a weaker one.
Flannery then told her Pokémon to use, Blaze Kick, which it did, as Blaziken's leg burst in flames, before it kicked Typhlosion, as hard as it could, sending Ash's Pokémon fly out of the battlefield, and behind Ash.
Not waiting for her opponent to get better, and since it's not against the rules, Flannery told her Blaziken to use Overheat on Typhlosion, while it was still down.
Blaziken fired golden flames from its mouth, which hit the lying Typhlosion, causing a big explosion and a shockwave to spread across the gym, while the flames spread around Ash's Pokémon.
"How do you like that, Ash," Flannery asked, looking all smug?
"Not bad," Ash said with a smirk. He didn't appear to be worried, and this worried Flannery, as she lost her smirk. She knew that if it was her Pokémon that was hit by Blaze Kick and then Overheat while lying down, she wouldn't be smirking. It made her wonder. "But you shouldn't celebrate too soon. This isn't even close to be over, and you've just made a mistake."
Flannery thought that the battle might not be over, as Ash's wouldn't be one of the best trainers in the world if he could lose that easily, but she had no idea what he meant by her making a mistake. What mistake has she made?
Before she could ask, the flames around Typhlosion cleared, revealing Ash's Pokémon in all his glory, covered in soot and some small burn marks, but overall, he was much better then he should be after those attacks.
Ash the told Typhlosion to use Flamethrower, and he did. Unfortunately for him, Flannery told Blaziken to dodge, and it did.
Unfortunately for Flannery, though, this was exactly what Ash's was planning, because as soon as Blaziken dodged, Ash had Typhlosion use Flare Blitz. Typhlosion was surrounded by red and golden flames, before it shot at Blaziken like a missile, hitting his opponent head-on, sending it flying past Flannery, and crushing into the wall behind her.
Flannery was worried about her Pokémon, but she knew that while it was definitely hurt by that powerful Flare Blitz, it wasn't defeated yet.
Blaziken managed to get up, and Flannery told it to use Sky Uppercut. Both of Blaziken's fists glowed light blue, before it shot at Typhlosion, trying to hit it, but Ash's fire type dodged the first fist. Unfortunately, he was hit in the chin by the second, sending it flying up into the air. Flannery again used the chance to attack again, and told Blaziken to use another Blaze Kick, followed by Overheat.
While still in the air, Typhlosion was hit in the torso by Blaziken's flaming leg, before it crashed down into the ground. Then, while up above Typhlosion, Blaziken fired another Overheat, this time hoping to deal a lot of damage to its opponent, maybe if it was lucky, even defeat it.
Ash is a good trainer though, and he has taught all of his Pokémon, what he considers to be the most useful defensive move a Pokémon can learn.
Protect.
Right away, Typhlosion was surrounded by the greenish ball of energy, which prevented Blaziken's Overheat to do pretty much anything, except exhaust Flannery's fire type, even more.
"Oh come on!" Flannery shouted as she saw that Typhlosion protected himself.
"If you've watched my matches so far, you would know that I really love this technique," Ash said with a smirk on his face, while Flannery groaned.
"Yes, I knows," Flannery said with a sight, before she blushed and rubbed the back of her head. "But I forgot about it."
"Well, now you know for the future," Ash spoke. "Never forget important stuff, and always pay attention to the other trainers and how they battle. Even the worst trainers can sometimes come up with something which can prove to be very useful."
Flannery nodded at the piece of advice that Ash offered her. She will make sure to remember it for the rest of her life.
By then, Blaziken was back in front of Flannery, and was lightly panting. It was starting to get tired from all the high level techniques it used, especially, Overheat. As for Typhlosion, he wasn't exactly as good as new, but he hasn't used that many high powered techniques, and as such, he wasn't tired. He did get few powerful hits, so they have left some marks here and there, but overall, Typhlosion was in a better state then Blaziken, and can fight for some time.
Flannery restarted the battle, when she told her Blaziken to use Slash, through Quick Attack. Blaziken disappeared from where it was standing, as it was moving with very high speed around the battlefield. Its three fingers glowed white for a moment, before suddenly, it was in front of Typhlosion, ready to slash him, which would deal more damage to Typhlosion.
Typhlosion dodged the attack, though, by jumping into the air, when Ash told him to use Aerial Ace.
Typhlosion was then surrounded in white aura, as he changed his position in the air. Now he was floating upside down, before he started to spin mid-air, while falling toward Blaziken. Typhlosion collided with Blaziken, hard, and sent the other fire starter, all the way to the end of the gym, where Flannery's Pokémon, again crushed into the wall.
Flannery was now really concerned for her Blaziken, as Aerial Ace is a flying type move, and Blaziken is really weak against Flying Type attacks, as it's part fighting type. Flannery knew right away, that her Blaziken, while it's still not defeated, is on its last leg, and would need a miracle to win this battle.
Seeing no other choice, Flannery waited for her Pokémon to get back on its feet, and to the battlefield. She encouraged it by saying that this is still not over, and that they still have a chance to win this, if they use everything that they have left.
Hearing it's trainers support, gave Blaziken a juice for one final full-powered attack. At that moment, Blaziken was surrounded by red aura, as his ability, Blaze activated, increasing the power of its fire attacks, to the extreme. Unfortunately, it also means that one more punch from Typhlosion, and Blaziken is done for, so, both Flannery and Blaziken decided to make sure for Blaziken to win this battle with its next and final attack, as there won't be another chance, if they fail.
"Great job, Blaziken," Flannery cheered for her Pokémon as it activated its ability, proving to her that it was going to give it it's all to win! "Now, let's finish this! Use, Blast Burn!"
The fire which was surrounding Blaziken - from its ability being activated - gathered all in Blaziken's mouth, which it had opened. Blaziken moved his head backwards, took a deep breath, and fired a beam of red and golden fire, at Typhlosion.
Ash knew that even his Typhlosion was going to have trouble with this Blast Burn, especially since it was empowered by the Blaze ability. Ash could have countered with Blast Burn, as Typhlosion knows it as well, but there was another move that he wants to try out, as he has never had a chance.
"Typhlosion," Ash called his Pokémon, who was all ears, waiting to hear what move will Ash have him use. "Use it."
It was all Ash said, but Typhlosion knew exactly what Ash was talking about. He gained a vicious smirk, finally having a chance to use THAT attack, as before now, he couldn't as Ash has forbidden him, and all of his other Pokémon, who could use that move, to use it, without him being there. So, they couldn't use it while training on Oak's Ranch, as Ash wasn't there.
Typhlosion looked at Blaziken, who has just moved its head backwards, and was ready to fire its attack. Typhlosion's eyes glowed red for a moment, before he opened his mouth, in which he created an orb of crimson flames. Just as Blaziken fired its Blast Burn, Typhlosion also fired his attack, which was in a form of a crimson orb of destructive fire.
The two attacks clashed with each other in the middle of the field, and battled for dominance for all of two seconds, before Typhlosion's attack, overpowered Blaziken's, much to Flannery's shock.
The crimson orb broke through the Blast Burn, and went at Blaziken, who couldn't do anything, as it was hit by it. The explosion created a big boom inside of the gym, and a shockwave, which sent Flannery and the judge on their asses, while Ash was the only one still standing. Even his Typhlosion was sent backwards, from the shockwave.
Blaziken was trapped inside of the dome of crimson fire for a few seconds, during which, the heat was so great, that the gym has literally started to melt, along with the cloth of the three people inside of the gym.
Flannery and the judge could do nothing but close their eyes, as they were being burned by the heat. As for their cloths, well, they didn't even notice that their cloths were burning. All they could feel was heat.
Ash was as calm as ever. His cloths were also burned, but he wasn't exactly a shy guy, so he doesn't care. As for the heat, he wasn't affected by it that much, and only had a little sweat on his face.
A minute later, the dome of flames disappeared, revealing a defeat Blaziken, lying on the ground, in the middle of the melted crater, with the smoke still coming from the crater and Blaziken. Blaziken was defeated, and heavily burned, but since it was a fire type Pokémon, it will be fine in a few days.
Ash looked at Flannery and the judge, and had to hold back a laugh, at the state they were in. He couldn't fight of a blush though, as the state in which Flannery currently was, is a very sexy one.
The judge was lying on the floor, with his cloths completely burned. He was naked as the day he was born, but because of how he was lying on the ground, nothing could be seen. He was lucky.
Flannery though, she was only lucky enough to still have her red thong, not completely burned, but everything else was gone. She was though, lying next to the gym wall, which left her chest completely visible to everyone who was looking at her. Right now, that was Ash, along with one more person, who was watching from the shadows.
Somehow, Ash has only lost his t-shirt, but not his pants or his shoes. He was really lucky.
Seeing that state in which Flannery was, Ash wanted to help her, and give her some cloths, but he had nothing on him at that moment. So, he returned his Typhlosion in his Poke Ball, after he thanked him for a great battle, before he walked over to Flannery, who still had her eyes closed.
Feeling that the heat has subsided, but also hearing someone approaching her, Flannery slowly opened her eyes. As her face was pointed downward, the first thing she saw the moment her eyes were opened, was the current state of her dress… of undress. She then looked up, and saw Ash standing above her, thought he wasn't looking at her. There was a small patch of red on his face, though.
Flannery screamed, before she jumped to her feet, and run out of the gym, with one arm covering her chest, while the other was trying to cover her ass, so Ash won't see it… she wasn't able to cover much, though. The referee did the same, after he also opened his eyes, and saw that he was completely naked.
Ash saw this, and sighed. "Well, I guess that's enough to convince me not to use that move in the gym battle, or the tournaments. I don't even want to know what would happen if I used that in the middle of the arena with thousands of people around me."
Ash then walked over to the crater, where Blaziken was still in, lying defeated. He sighed again, and thought on what to do, as Flannery has run off, and he doesn't know when she will come back, but Blaziken does need immediate attention.
Ash groaned. "I shouldn't have used that move." He then released his Metang, and had him carry Blaziken on its back. They went to the Pokémon Center.
