Disclaimer: This is a silly fic that I have in my head, so it doesn't make sense in the lore but still have fun. :)

Chapter 1: Fate
He watched the group from above in the shelter of the trees. His hand gripped the body of the tree, his other corrupted hand holding his weapon. He grinned, this would be an easy harvest for his weapon. Below was a group of five people, four men and one blue haired woman. Of course he'd have to report back before taking their lives, but it was already set. Those individuals would die before the sun rose again. With that thought in mind, let out a short chuckle before the black mist swarmed his body. Slowly eating at his form before he became enveloped into a shadow moving unnoticed down the tree and slinking back into the woods.
"Aye Sona, isn't this where you are from again." The ruly golden haired man muffled with a mouth full of food. I turned to look at him, seeing him lifting a brow at me. Small bits of rice were stuck at the corners of his mouth. I felt my lips turn upward lifting my hands up.
"Technically yes, but Demacia was where I used to reside." I signed, his brows furrowed and took another bite of his food. His eyes were porcelain blue and full of life. He had a slim build, with some muscle definition in his arms. However they were covered by his brown jacket with blueish black fur covering the hood. He wore a tan shirt that was dirtied from the months of travel we had been through. He also wore dark blue jeans with black belt straps holding tools and other trinkets he often carried. Finally his shoes were just regular brown leather boots.
"Mmmm, I got a little bit of that. Learning sign is a little rough. Help me out will ya." He smiled sheepishly at me. I shrugged, it was no harm that he didn't quite understand me as our travels have been short. Most of the group tried to learn but some gave up after a few weeks, and instead asked me to write what I mean. The other three men that accompanied us wore roughly the same as the man before me. Ezreal, that was his name. He and his group found me wandering Ionia by myself. They were very kind to accept me into their group. However they never told me exactly what they were here for, as they were from a place named Piltover.
"Hey man, I'm gonna head to get more firewood. Who's going to take the first shift." One of the gentlemen came up to us, he looked at me and then back to Ezreal as if he was meaning that it was us taking the shift first.
"Uh, yeah we can if that's what you mean. We'll wake up the next two." Ezreal spoke through bites of food. The other guy smirked and nodded.
"Good, it's going to be me and Dante that will take the next shift. We'll get the wood then head to bed since it's getting dark." The man crossed his arms and had dark auburn hair that hung loosely on his head stopping just below his ears. He also had a dark black coat that he wore with black pants that had leather straps on his right leg. Usually he wore sunglasses but since the sun was setting he had it placed on his head. His eyes were grayish blue but in the dark lighting you could mistake them for dark eyes. His skin was light tan and a small scar right by his left eye. He also wore fingerless gloves and dark black boots.
"Aye Sona, I guess it's just you and me for a little while." Ezreal turned to me, after Dante walked away. "Yeah. I suppose so." I thought to myself, it was certainly interesting to be with these men. I looked down at my food, it was a half eaten bowl of rice, with small bits of fish we had caught earlier in the day. A small piece of slightly stale bread was next to me. It was acquired when we passed through a small town the week prior. I turned my head to my Etwahl, my attention no longer on Ezreal. The very instrument that caused my exile from Demacia– A piece of me rather. It was almost a year ago that it happened. The small performance that turned into an uproar, the mageseekers. I shook my head and sighed. Despite what took place, I wouldn't have done anything different if I went back in time. Why should I be ashamed of myself? I placed my bowl down and got up to walk towards my instrument. It seemed to glow slightly as if it anticipated my presence. I knelt down, sitting and placing the instrument in front of me. A slight hum rang in my ears, welcoming me. I touched the strings lightly with the tips of my finger and took in a deep breath. A small pluck of a string would start the song but I hesitated. "No, not tonight." I smiled, even though I would play for hours. Now wasn't the time. It would be disrespectful after all. "Maybe in the morning we'll play something beautiful." I looked at my Etwahl, I saw it shimmer slightly. Yes, I'll keep that promise but for now I should get ready for the night watch.
As promised Dante and his companion brought arm full of wood that would last us the night and then some. I took my usual spot further away under an old tree. Its leaves were beginning to fall as it had a base of purple leaves. My instrument laying next to me, I watched as the rag tag group got ready to rest. The fire danced, playing shadows across the camp. The clearing was small, enough to fit us. Trees and bushes littered the surrounding area. Faint cooing sounds of birds echoed in the sunset. It was peaceful, reminding me of my childhood. My eyes shifted to see Ezreal coming from the woods and stretched his arms above his head. Noticing me staring he sheepishly smiled at me and waved. He walked over to me and sat himself beside me, resting his head against the tree.
"You know, you can sleep if you want to. I can handle it on my own." He turned to smile at me. I shook my head, he offers every night yet it would be unfair to accept. After all, I was the stranger that joined them.
"Suit yourself then." He smirked again, turning his head and looking up at the night sky.
"Here, I got it from the river nearby." I turned back to him, holding out his leather canteen. I took it with my hand slightly touching his fingers. With the other free hand I signed.
"Thank you." His grin widened as he watched me take a small drink. The water felt cool and light. It was refreshing as I didn't realize how parched I was.
"Thank you, right?" He asked, taking it back to take a swig. I nodded, smiling at him.
"Can you teach me something else… Like how to say "I love you." He looked away then back at me. My eyes widened and I could feel heat rising in my cheeks. He immediately shook his head and let out a nervous laugh.
"N-No not like that, um just was wondering I-Is all. You know, to impress a future girl…Ah ha.." He turned his head towards the ground and let out a sigh.
"Maybe it's dumb. Forget about it, she probably wouldn't know what I was saying." He chuckled looking back at him. I reached out to touch his arm, and shook my head at him. And signed the words "I love you." It was cute in a way, seeing him all flustered over this girl. Every night he'd talk about her. He only saw her once, but he swears up and down that he loves her. Whoever this girl is, seems like a lucky girl. He perked up, raising his hands clumsily repeating the movements I did. After getting the motions down he slumped down the tree more, staring at the sky and signing the words over and over. I took my attention back towards the camp, the rest of the group had fallen asleep. So it was just me and him awake. It was quiet, the fire flickering and crackling, casting warmth on my arms and chest. I stared into the flames, watching them dance. They danced, retreating then growing, reaching to the sky.
"Sona." My name being spoken softly snapping me back to reality. I turned to look at Ezreal. His face was riddled with a look of seriousness.
"I think something is watching us." He spoke lightly to me, I followed his gaze back to the fire and squinted. Very faintly in the bush I saw it, a glowing red orb. "Wolves?" No, my brows furrowed, it was only one glowing light and wolves don't have red eyes. After blinking they were gone. I felt my companion tense up beside me. Was it the flames just playing tricks on our tired eyes? That's when I noticed it, the shadows from the flames creeping up towards us in an unusual way towards us. I quickly got to my feet and turned. Ezreal seeing me jump up followed suit. We watched as the shadows rose up forming into a being.
"Hey! Who the hell are you?" Ezreal shouted, it was loud and certainly loud enough to wake the others. I raised my hands towards my chest, glancing over towards my instrument sitting a few feet from the shadow monster. The red eye appeared from the mists again, a low masculine chuckle echoed from the being.
"Well, well, well. What a lovely couple." The mist dissipated revealing a man. He was tall, and very muscular. His hair was jett black and held in a braid that held down to his hips. His bangs parting at the middle with gray tufts framing the sides of his face. His skin was pale, almost ghostly white and riddled with scars. But what was most concerning was the fact that his left eye was covered in what seemed like metal. And that eye.. It was burning red. I looked at his other eye, which was seemingly normal. His chest was exposed showing more scars and his abs. The left part of his chest was seemingly covered with metal too, with small gusts of black smoke escaping underneath. His left arm was covered in the metal, and what wasn't covered was covered in what looked like red silk. His other hand was bare.
"Hey now, eyes up here girly." I looked back up to him. Our eyes meeting, his lips turned upward in a devilish grin.
"Who are you?" Ezreal repeated again, this time more stern. I could hear the commotion behind us and the men woke up. The mysterious man shrugged.
"Who cares? It doesn't matter anyways, you're all going to die soon." He stated matter-of-factly. I quickly looked at Ezreal, he looked at me and nodded. Another robber most likely. However this one had magic.
"So you just want our stuff then?" Ezreal kept prodding, trying to buy some time. Even if the others didn't have power. Ezreal did, as he showed me his gauntlet before.
"No, just your lives. You see I have to feed my friend or he gets sort of cranky. So truly unfortunate for you. Otherwise I personally wouldn't care." The man shrugged, extending his arm out. The shadows swirled around his hand forming a scythe. The scythe was huge, black and red however I quickly noticed the eye in the blade. It blinked looking around, fixating its gaze at me.
"Ezreal.." The feeling of the eye staring at me was the same when I stared into the man's red eye. A sense of thirst and hunger. The man gripped the scythe swinging it around almost effortlessly.
"Ok he's not really my friend, but you know what I mean." He started up again. Taking a step towards us.
"Sona get back." Ezreal commanded, following his command, I raised my hand up. Come to me. The Etwahl glimmering levitated towards me. It's hum loud in my mind. Caution. It seemed to tell me.
"I see." The man before us stopped, taking us in again. He still had his smile on his face, but instead his body faded. The mists again swirling around us past us. We turned to watch as the mist ate our companions. Their screams were quickly severed by the glint of the blade. Just as quickly as he disappeared he reformed besides the bodies of our dead friends.
"Don't you get it now. I can do anything I want to you. You all have no power here. Your fates were already sealed the moment I saw you." He growled, gripping his bloodied scythe. I stared at the bodies lying lifelessly on the floor. Just moments ago they were getting ready for the fight. The hum in my mind flared, snapping me out of my stupor again.
"And if you must know so badly my name is Kayn… Sheida Kayn. Now come, show me how much you value your lives!" He grinned again.
"You bastard." Ezreal growled back, raising his gauntlet at him, the glove glowed humming and the energy spurring around his fingers. A shot fired, just as quickly as the bolt formed. I in turn closed my eyes, my fingers feeling the strings. A song, desperate in need. I plucked the strings, opening my eyes. Kayn melted into the shadows again dodging the shot Ezreal fired. However he quickly reformed. The melody I played, I saw the figures dance almost telling me where he was to me. I moved quickly dodging his attack. I sharply plucked a chord, a bolt fired from my Etwahl hitting him directly. Yes! However the more I played I realized he wasn't affected by the music, He moved again this time his gaze directed at me.
"A pity, you're pretty. You would've made a fine pet." The words echoed towards me. He lunged at me, plucking another string and firing another bolt. He effortlessly dodged this time. However it was the beam from Ezreal that knocked him away. He growled, turning his attention back to Ezreal.
"Using energy will get you nowhere. You're just annoying." He faded away and reformed away the mists rushing to Ezreal. In an instant he reformed, throwing Ezreal to the ground. Ezreal coughed, using one of his hands to lift himself up. It was then I noticed the blood. "No! Ezreal…" I started heading to him, I knelt down and lifted his head up.
"Run Sona.." I shook my head at him, I placed my hand on his face then turned and glared at the man.
"How cute, so cute it almost makes me want to not kill you two." He chuckled again, his gaze boring into me.
"Now I'll make a deal. I'll leave him alive, if you come with me." He knelt down, holding his scythe on his knees. I looked at him and towards Ezreal. It happened so fast, I knew nothing of this strange man's powers. But yet if there is a chance.. I looked at the man and nodded. His smile widened almost knowing the answer I was going to give.
He walked over to me and yanked me up. I winced at how hard he grasped me. I turned to reach for my instrument, the Etwahl glowed floating towards me. The black shadows danced around me and him.
"Come." He spoke, pulling me along. I looked back behind me seeing my friend hunched over. His form grew smaller and then disappeared as we went further into the woods.
"Don't worry, he'll live if he's smart enough. I didn't cut him deep." The voice rang around me. Soon I realized that we weren't even on the ground but floating through the trees. It was as if our bodies weren't solid. It was cold. Unbearably cold and empty. Soon we entered a clearing and he dropped me. I fell to the ground and looked around. A huge opening cave was in front of me. I squinted trying to see inside but to no avail I saw nothing. The man walked next to me and sighed.
"Now, I left your friend alive but your life is still not certain. So let me go ahead and you wait here." He turned to me and knelt down. Grabbing a piece of my blue hair. He lifted it up and studied it. Before looking at me again.
"If you value your life, you won't run away or you will certainly die." He spoke again almost as if he was warning me. And with that he got back up and walked inside the cave. I waited for a little bit, staring into the dark abyss. Nothing, not a sound. I was frozen, I could still feel the hum of my instrument still in mind. After some time, I felt the ache in my arms making me realize I had been still for some time. I hefted myself up. His words rang in my head. Wait here. But why? And why should I listen to him… I beckoned my instrument to lead the way. It glowed softly in the dark. Giving me some clarity. I took a step forward, then another. Turning my head over my shoulder, it was now or never. Flee or go forward. I turned back and took a deep breath before entering the cave more.

Authors Note: This is my like first fanfic I've written, I just felt silly and wanted to write a Kayn and Sona fic. Which turned out to be waaaay longer than I had thought it would be, so now I'm just going to post it here. I think I'll turn this into a comic series later on... I don't know how I feel about the name just yet for this story. Let me cook on it for a bit. Any suggestions are welcome too. But otherwise I'll post a new chapter every Friday ^^
