The bushes of the camp entrance rusled as the hunting patrol came back.Horizonkit crouched behind his resting mother,not bothering to go and play with his littermates.Owlkit had become really distant from him since half a moon ago.Horizonkit still decided to go and greet the patrol however.But instead of the usual warriors coming back with prey,he saw Mushroomglow being helped to the medicine den,Lynxteeth half-dragging him.Smallsprout quickly went to Foreststars den,leaving Firepaw behind. "Mom was Mushroomglow okay?" he asked,slightly concerned.Rhymesong stared blankly at the medicine cat den for a bit before replying "It's nothing dear,now come on,let's go to the nursery." she assured him,calling over Owlkit and Heatherkit.You didn't answer my question he thought.He wanted to know what was going on,he was actually worried for the young warrior.He soon grew bored in the nursery,just watching Heatherkit and Owlkit resume their game of mossball. "Why don't you join them?" suggested Rhymesong.Horizonkit was hesitant at first,but then got up to join his littermates."Can I play too?" he asked. "No,we're fine just playing by ourselves." Owlkit answered. "Owlkit let your brother join." their mother mewed. "But mom we're in the middle of the game!If he joins we'll have to start over." Owlkit explained. "Owlkit let him join." Heatherkit chimed in. "No it's fine,I don't even want to play with someone like him.I'll just go see how Firepaw's doing." he said,exiting the den.Firepaw was sitting by the apprentice den,seemingly being comforted by Wildpaw. "Firepaw are you okay?" Horizonkit asked. "Yeah,just a little...shaken up thats all." she said in a slightly shaky voice. "What happened?" he asked. "Just a border skirmish,and don't worry about it,okay?" Wildpaw told him.A border skirmish?That's the exuse he came up with?It clearly wasn't a border skirmish,things wouldn't be so serious if that was the case.Besides,all the Clans were reletively neutral towards each other. "Maybe you should just keep your mind off of it for now?" Horizonkit sujested.Wildpaw turned to Firepaw,whispering something in her ear before leading her to her nest.He came out soon after. "Hey,want to help me clean out some nests?Firepaw was supposed to do it,but I'm sure Muddypatch would understand." he asked. "Yeah!" replied Horizonkit. "Great!Come on now." Wildpaw lead him to the medicine den.There were shelves carved into the walls,multiple herbs resting there.Closely under the shelves there was a nest,that's most likely where Lynxteeth slept.There was a hollowed out part in a small dip behind some lichen,other nests in the dip.He could faintly make out Lynxteeth tending to Mushroomglows wounds.In the corner of the den there was a small pile of moss,that was most likely for the nests.Wildpaw picked up a bigger part of it,leaving a smaller pile for Horizonkit to carry.Horizonkit quickly picked up the moss,following Wildpaw who was leading him out of the den.They went into the apprentice den as Wildpaw dropped his pile and Horizonkit did the same. "Okay first,we get rid of the old bedding." Wildpaw began. "Then,we make new nests out of this moss.I'll go drop my old bedding at the dirtplace,you try and move this moss to where my previous nest was." he said,pushing half of his pile towards Horizonkit.Wildpaw picked up his old nest and made his way out the den.Horizonkit did as told and moved the moss towards the spot of the old nest.Wildpaw came in shortly after and sat next to Horizonkit. "Okay,now you just spread the moss out like this." Wildpaw spread the moss across the ground using his paws.This was great!Horizonkit could make his father proud AND he was having fun while doing it!Making nests seemed really easy too.He started spreading the moss out like Wildpaw and soon thought this might be what being an apprentice is like.He still had four whole moons until apprenticeship,but he couldn't wait!
