Night felt as if the world was ending.
All those poor dragons… Night thought ruefully, lowering her head and wings. Glory covered her face with her wings while Qibli frantically made suggestions and Deathbringer gloomily denied them all.
"Could we send a message?" Qibli asked quickly. Deathbringer shook his head.
"No. It's too dangerous for them, and the Rainwings aren't quick enough," Deathbringer sighed, saying no to Qibli for like the thousandth time. Glory curled in more and Deathbringer pulled her into his wings and held her. Surprisingly, Queen Glory didn't even budge.
"Oh," Qibli said, turning away from them and seeing Night's crestfallen face. He rushed to her and held her as Night sobbed.
"I will think of something," He said, gently holding Night up. Night's response was a groan and she realised what she had to do.
"Queen Glory, I will go to Jade Mountain to warn them," Night said shakily, standing to face her. Glory climbed out of Deathbringer's wings, her snout strained in tears, and gently gripped Night's talons, her face hopeful.
"Are you sure? It's very risky," Queen Glory warned her. Night nodded.
"I need to," Night replied, knowing nobody could change her mind. Glory brushed her wings with hers.
"Thank you. Good luck," She said, turning to Deahtbringer. Night waved and launched into the sky. Was this the last time she was gonna see her friends and family?
"Night!" A voice called after her. Night turned to see Qibli behind her. Her smart, sweet, brave and funny friend. Maybe even more than that.
"Hey, you know this is really dangerous right?" She asked anxiously.
"Yup!" Qibli nodded, grabbing her talon and flying through the sky, dragging Night along with him. Night screamed in surprise, but couldn't stop herself cracking a small smile.
"Qibli!" She scolded, wacking his wings with hers.
"Sorry, I just wanted to see your smile. I hadn't seen it in a long time," he said, smiling shyly.
"Aww, Night, you're just so pretty," Night mimicked, giggling at his face.
"Umm, here we are," Qibli said quickly, nudging her wing. Night's smile faded as she followed him to the entrance.
"Sunny?" Night called, tilting her head at Sunny as she rushed through the hallways.
"Night?" Sunny cried, skidding to a stop and rushing towards Night, gripping her talons, "You're okay!"
Night smiled weakly at her and it faded as she remembered why she was there.
"Sunny… the Menace is coming," Night said, meeting Sunny's eyes. She blinked, horrified and bolted away. Night and Qibli followed her, warning dragonets they ran past. For once, Qibli was quiet, probably thinking about how to save them. Night stopped and turned to him.
"Hey. Don't tire yourself with plans to save everyone. Just worry about yourself first," Night said softly, brushing his wings. Qibli sighed and smiled worriedly at her.
"I know. It's just… I'm worried about them all," He admitted, sitting down and holding his wings around himself. Night sat next to him and placed a wing around him. They stayed like that until screams occurred.
"Kinkajou!" Night cried, jumping up and zooming to her cave. Kinkajou was held down by Crocodile.
"Let her go!" Night ordered, her eyes full of fear. Crocodile grinned at her.
"There you are," He said smugly. Night lunged at him and slashed his face. Crocodile yelped, jumping off Kinkajou and growling at Night.
"Go away. She's mine to deal with," Crimson hissed, stepping into the room and smiling evilly at Night. Crocodile snorted and jumped at a passing dragonet. Kinkajou met Night's eyes, terrified. Crimson lunged at them. Night ducked and pulled Kinkajou down. She blasted flames at Crimson. Crimson let out a shrill scream, falling over and rolling around.
"Night?" Qibli asked, stepping into the room and jumping back, away from Crimson.
"Qibli, run!" Night screamed, launching towards him. But it was too late. Crimson jumped on top of him and slashed his face.
"NO!" Night shrieked, jumping towards Crimson. She shot a blast of flames at Crimson's face and pushed her away. Crimson shrieked, the fire burning her face. Night stared at Crimson as she collapsed. She didn't mean to hurt her that bad. Qibli groaned and Night ran to him.
"Qibli, Qibli! Please, please don't die!" Night sobbed, grabbing his talons. Kinkajou let out a gasp, and ran over too.
"Qibli, s-stop, p-lease," Kinkajou stammered, tears running down her face. Qibli squeezed Night's talons and smiled the best he could.
"Don't worry, I'm gonna stay with you guys," He declared. Kinkajou turned to check Crimson and gasped again.
"Night," Kinkajou said, "Crimson's dead."
