Azula stares at the boy standing before her. She contemplates on whether or not she should be intimidating towards him before she ultimately decides not to. As much as she hates to admit, he's been helpful to her so far. And besides, one can only look so intimidating with a flying lemur on their shoulder.
"Well? Was that my mother you were talking to or not?"
"Oh! Um, yeah, that was her. She wanted to come and see you but I managed to convince her that it wasn't a good idea or the right time for that. It looks like your brother didn't tell her about your hallucinations after he found her."
Azula snorts. Of course he didn't. He wouldn't be Zuzu if he actually planned ahead and thought things through. And yet he's the Fire Lord while she's been wasting away for a year. She would have been a much better Fire Lord than her idiot brother ever could be. But there's no point in wallowing over it now. Not when her own mind is in the state that it is.
"Did you really expect him to? He more than likely just started all in about himself the moment he found his beloved mother, and she let him. Forgetting all about me and the fact that I exist, just as he's done for the past year. Even Mai and Ty Lee came to visit me just about every day. That's more than I can say about my own brother and uncle."
Sokka doesn't know what to say to that. He's shocked to hear that those two actually visited her though. After what happened at the Boiling Rock, he assumed that they wouldn't want anything to do with Azula anymore. Clearly that isn't the case, which is a good thing. At least she had some form of human interaction at that place.
"Mai and Ty Lee came to visit you? That's nice. What did you guys talk about?"
"I don't really remember much from their visits. Whenever they came by to see me, I wasn't really there. I was constantly out of it from the hallucinations and whatever was in those shots that the doctors would inject me with to calm me down. The only way I even knew that they were there was because they would always leave a plate of mochi with a note from Ty Lee promising to return, and one of Mai's knives would be right next to it. Almost as if they were trying to reassure me that they had really been there, and that they weren't yet another hallucination that my mind made up."
Well that's good, at least they won't be hard to convince that Azula needs to be anywhere except for the asylum, Sokka thinks to himself.
"Enough about those two, though. What were you and mo - Ursa talking about?"
He raises an eyebrow at the swift change from mother to Ursa, but decides not to comment on it for now. Probably for the best.
"She wanted to talk to you about everything, I suppose. But I turned her away and told her that now really wasn't a good time because you were sleeping, and not to mention that I didn't know what you would do if you actually saw her and realized that she was real and not another hallucination. Oh, and she told me her, Aang, and Katara talked with Zuko. They managed to convince him to take you out of the asylum permanently, as well as to have the place shut down after a thorough investigation. You don't have to worry about going there ever again."
Azula doesn't say anything at first. Sokka thinks that maybe she didn't hear him or she's in shock from what he just told her, when he hears her silently mumble, "...I don't have to go back there anymore?"
Sokka smiles, "Nope! See, I told you that it would all work out in the end. And don't worry about Iroh either. Your mother already said that she'll have a long talk with him, and we'll handle Zuko if he suddenly changes his mind. Now all that's left is to decide where we should take you to receive proper care. And since this is about you, I might as well ask you if you have any ideas on…." Sokka slowly stops talking when he feels something wet on his cheek. He looks up at Azula, only to see that the girl is crying. Momo tries to calm her down, and Sokka smiles. He knows what those tears are about. They aren't tears of sadness. They are tears of happiness. He makes his way back onto Appa, and pulls the girl into a hug.
"Everything is going to be okay now, Azula. I promise."
