Same Night: Hospital
Pacifica and Tulip just arrived at the hospital and are in the room where Steven, Mabel, and Marcy are watching Rick get operated on through a glass window. Mabel stands on Steven's right, Pacifica stands on Mabel's right, and Tulip stands on Marcy's right, who is sitting in a wheelchair after being treated for her injuries, they're all watching Rick being operated on.
Tulip asks anyone, "Is he gonna make it?"
Steven answers, "I don't know."
Pacifica gently demands, "Tell me about the shooter."
Steven briefly explains, "She's fast. Strong. Had a metal hand."
Marcy looks at Steven, "She?" They all look at her, confused. Marcy sighs in realization and briefly explains, "That's not the one that attacked us earlier. The one that did was a male and had a metal arm." Marcy looks back at the operation, looking and feeling numb. The others follow her gaze and watch the operation. Just then, Agent Tambry Wu joins them, standing beside Marcy on her left.
Tulips asks Agent Tambry, "Ballistics?"
Tambry answers as she doesn't look at Tulip, "Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable."
Marcy mutters knowingly, with a numb-hard look on her face, "Soviet-made."
Tambry looks down at Marcy, confused about how she knew that, "Yeah."
Suddenly, Doctor 1 says loudly, "He's dropping."
A male nurse says, "He's in V-tach."
A female nurse says as she moves the crash cart closer to Rick, "Crash cart coming in." They all watch in shock as Rick's state deteriorates.
Doctor 2 tells the nurse, "Nurse, help me with the drape." More agents enter the room behind the 6.
The male nurse informs, "BP's dropping."
Doctor 3 shouts, "Defibrillator!" The doctors move quickly on Rick. Pacifica, Mabel, Steven, Tulip, Marcy, and Tambry watch in shock as Rick flatlines on the operating table, "I want you to charge him at 100."
Pacifica gets emotional, watching intently as she mutters, "Don't do this to me, Rick."
Doctor 2 tells the other doctors and nurses as he rubs the two defibrillator pads together, "Stand back. Three, two, one. Clear." He shocks Rick with the pads on his chest. The doctor asks, "Pulse?"
The male nurse tells the doctor, "No pulse."
Doctor 2 tells the nurse, "Okay. 200, please. Stand back! Three, two, one. Clear!" He gives Rick another shock. The doctor shouts, "Give me epinephrine!" Mabel cries quietly. Steven looks at her and wraps his arm around her, bringing her to his side. She hugs his waist as she continues to look through the window. The doctor asks, "Pulse?"
The male nurse says disappointedly, "Negative."
Pacifica breathes shakily as she whispers, "Don't do this to me, Rick. Don't do this to me." They watch as the doctors check his pulse and get no response. Agent Tambry quietly cries, tears coming down her cheeks.
Steven turns Mabel away as they finally call Rick's time of death. Doctor 2 asks the nurse, "What's the time?"
The female nurse answers, "1:03, Doctor."
Doctor 2 states as he removes his rubber gloves, "Time of death, 1:03 A.M."
Agent Tambry turns away, quietly crying. Marcy stares at Rick's body, numb with tears coming down her face. Tulip is still looking through the window, trying to keep her emotions in but letting out shaky breaths. Pacifica leans her hands on the window-edge frame, looking down, quietly letting her tears fall.
Steven leads Mabel towards the door as she cries. He looks down at the flash drive Rick had given him. Mabel looks up at his hand before looking at him, shocked. Steven, looks down at her silently and shakes his head a bit, basically telling not to say anything.
Hospital Room
Marcy, Mabel, Pacifica, Steven, and Tulip are in a room where Rick's dead body is on a gurney, a white blanket covering his body with just his head exposed.
Mabel and Steven stand together, leaning against the wall. Mabel looks down sadly with her arms crossed, and Steven, with his hands in his pockets, looks down sadly.
Marcy is wearing sweats and a robe. She is still sitting in the wheelchair beside Steven and Tulip, looking at Rick sadly and sniffing.
With her arms crossed, Pacifica looks at Rick's body, tears running down her face. After a moment, Tulip quietly turns around and leaves.
Tambry walks up beside Marcy, telling the three, "I need to take him." Tambry looks down, sad, trying not to cry again.
Mabel uncrosses her arms as she pushes off the wall and approaches Pacifica beside Rick. She stands on Pacifica's left and says, "Pacifica." Pacifica doesn't respond. Instead, she tenderly touches Rick's head, then silently turns and walks out. Mabel quickly follows her, looking at Steven, who then follows her out.
Outside: Hallway
Pacifica walks out the door. Mabel and Steven follow, jogging to catch up to her fast pace. Steven gently calls out, "Pacifica!" Many SHIELD agents stand and walk around the hallway.
Pacifica stops and sharply turns to Steven and Mabel, who both stop in front of her. Pacifica looks to Steven with a hard expression and asks, "Why was Rick in your apartment?"
Steven sighs and shrugs, throwing his hands up loosely before dropping them to his sides. He lies to Pacifica, "I don't know."
Jasper interrupted them before anyone could say anything. She called out from behind Steven, "Cap, they want you and Ms. Pines back at SHIELD." Mabel looked at Jasper, a bit confused.
Steven looks over his left shoulder and tells Jasper, "Yeah, give us a second."
Jasper insists, "They want you now."
Steven looks back at Jasper and tells her, in a sharp tone, "Okay." Jasper nods and turns around, walking away. Steven and Mabel turn back to Pacifica.
Pacifica loosens up, giving Steven a faint smirk as she tells him, "You're a terrible liar." She looks at Mabel before turning around and walking off down the hallway.
Steven and Mabel watch Pacifica leave. Steven looks down and put his hands on his hips. Mabel sighs, shifting her weight on her right leg and popping her hip out while standing on his right.
Gunnar's voice on the radio says, "STRIKE team, escort Captain Universe and Ms. Pines back to SHIELD immediately for questioning."
Jasper responds to Gunnar, "I told them." Steven looks at Mabel but looks behind her. He notices the vending machine that's open and being restocked. He gets an idea.
Mabel looks up at Steven, confused, as he's not looking at her, but behind her. She glances over her shoulder and gives Steven a questioning look as he glances at her.
A minute later, Steven and Mabel walk down the hallway towards Jasper, who's waiting for them. She looks up, and Steven says, "Let's go."
Jasper agrees and starts walking beside Steven, "Yeah." They head to the exit, and Jasper commands her team, "STRIKE, move it out." As they leave, no one notices Steven has hidden the flash drive behind a pack of bubble gum in the vending machine. The janitor closes the vending machine, not noticing it either.
Next Day: The Triskelion
S.H.I.E.L.D. HEADQUARTERS
A few helicopters fly around the shield headquarters building.
Inside: Hallway
Nathan is talking to Kate, aka Agent 13, and they are both standing outside of Nathan's office doorway.
Nathan tells Agent 13/Kate, "For whatever it's worth, you did your best."
Agent 13/Kate nods, "Thank you, sir." She turns around and starts walking down the hallway. She looks up and sees Steven, greeting him shortly, "Captain Universe."
Steven replies coldly as he walks towards Nathan, not even looking at her, "Neighbor." He's mad that she lied to him. Steven is wearing his suit with his shield on his back.
Nathan sees Steven/Captain Universe, "Oh, Captain." Agent 13/Kate looks back at Steven with a hurt/annoyed expression as she walks away. Nathan introduces himself as Steven/Captain Universe stops in front of him, "I'm General Nathan." He holds his hand out.
Steven/Captain Universe grabs Nathan's hand, "Sir, it's an honor." They shake hands respectfully.
Nathan tells Steven/Captain Universe, "The honor's mine, Captain." They stop shaking hands, "My father served in the 101st." He looks around, "Uh, Ms. Pines was supposed to be here as well."
Steven/Captain Universe tells Nathan knowingly, "Give it a second, sir." He knows and is used to Mabel being a few minutes late. Sometimes, he finds it amusing. Nathan nods confusingly and goes to say something, but gets cut off.
Mabel jogs towards them, putting her phone in her pocket. She stops on Steven's right and tells them, "Sorry, I'm late."
Nathan assures Mabel, "No problem at all, Ms. Pines." He holds his hand out, "General Nathan."
Mabel shakes Nathan's hand respectfully, "It's a pleasure to meet you."
Nathan tells Mabel, as they let go of the handshake, "Pleasure is all mine." He looks at them and says, "Come on in." He nods towards his office behind him. They all enter Nathan's office.
Inside: Nathan's Office
A minute later, Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel are standing by the wall computer screen across the room, looking at an old photo of Rick with Nathan in Steven's hands with Rick having no eyepatch in the photo, Nathan explains, "That photo was taken five years after Rick and I met when I was at State Department in Bogota." He took off his suit jacket and put it on the back of his work chair, "ELN rebels took the embassy, and security got me out, but the rebels took hostages." He sorts through his pile of folders before finding the one he was looking for, "Rick was Deputy Chief for the SHIELD station there, and he comes to me with a plan." He walks back to Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel, who looks at him, "He wants to storm the building through the sewers. I said, 'No, we'll negotiate.' Turned out the ELN didn't negotiate, so they put out a kill order. They stormed the basement, and what did they find?" He walks to the area Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel are standing in and stops on Steven's left, "They find it empty." They all sit down on two separate couches: Nathan on one, Steven/Captain Universe, and Mabel on another, "Rick had ignored my direct order, and carried out an unauthorized military operation on foreign soil, and saved the lives of a dozen political officers, including my daughter."
Mabel states knowingly from Steven's right side, "So you gave him a promotion."
Nathan tells Mabel, "I've never had any cause to regret it." He asks Steven/Captain Universe straight forward, "Captain, why was Rick in your apartment last night?"
Steven/Captain Universe shakes his head a bit before looking down, lying better than he did with Pacifica last night at the hospital, "I don't know." Nathan looks at Mabel, and she shakes her head believably.
Nathan asks them, "Did you know it was bugged?"
Steven/Captain Universe tells Nathan truthfully, "I did because Rick told me."
Nathan asks Steven/Captain Universe again, "Did he tell you he was the one who bugged it?" Steven doesn't reply, obviously not knowing this information, as he looks at Nathan, who nods in realization after a second. He leans forward on his left and clicks on his computer for the big wall screen, "I want you to see something."
Steven/Captain Universe, and Mabel look behind them as they all look at the big wall screen. Footage of Hector being interrogated comes to the screen.
