I still decided to stay home and give Leon and I some space, I think we both needed some time to think. Maybe being apart for a little while will do us some good. My dad will be happy about that too.
So I was sitting on the front porch smoking my vape and thinking. There has to be a way that Leon and I can live together without getting all of the communities in trouble. I think my way would work, he just has to agree to go along with it. If he really wasn't a savior while the war was going on, then no one should recognize him.
"Hey, Abby." Max said walking over. Before I could respond he said, "whoa. You okay? You look sad." He stared at me.
I looked up at him, then took a puff and blew the smoke out before reciprocating. "I am sad."
"Why?" He sat down next to me. "What's wrong?"
I hesitated and looked around. "…we had a fight." I said keeping my voice down.
"You and your boyfriend?"
I gave him a stupid look. "Yeah." I said lowly and scolded him. "Talk lower."
"Sorry." He apologized. "What was it about?"
I took another puff. "What you said yesterday."
"What I said?" He asked like he didn't know what I was talking about.
"About us meeting up everyday." I looked down. "Instead of living together." I became saddened all over again.
"Oh." Max said. "I'm sorry." He breathed out, then paused for a moment looking around. He put his arm on me. "Maybe it just wasn't meant to be." He shrugged.
His words sunk in, then I glared at him. "No." I pushed his arm off me and stood up, he gave me a surprised look. "We're gonna work it out."
"How?" Max shook his head.
"We're gonna work it out." I repeated then walked inside angrily.
I arrived at our spot early the next day. Leon wasn't there yet so I just sat down and stared at the water. Being apart, even though it was only a day, made me realize how much I love his company. I don't like fighting with him and I especially don't like not seeing him. That just proves to me even more that we need to figure something out. This was meant to happen, it wasn't just a coincidence.
I heard footsteps and looked up. Leon was there, he just stopped and stood a few feet in front of me. "Hey." I said sadly.
"Hey." He said back. After a moment, he came closer and sat down next to me. It was quiet for a minute.
"I'm sorry about— We both said at the same time. We looked at each other and smiled. "You first." I said.
"No, I insist." Leon smirked.
I let out a laugh. "I'm sorry about our argument." I said. "I hate fighting with you."
"Me too." He nodded. "I hated not seeing you yesterday...so much."
"So did I." I started to feel emotional after that and got tears in my eyes. "I never want that to happen again." I cried. "I just wish we could figure something out so we could be around each other all the time."
Leon stared at me. "I want that too."
I grabbed his hand. "There has to a way." I said desperately. "There has to be." He slowly nodded at me, then we laid back on the grass and cuddled up next to each other. It felt so nice just being there with him. I was also so glad that we made up. And it sounds like we're on the same page.
"We could leave." Leon said out of nowhere.
I realized what he said and lifted my head off of his chest so that I could look at him. "What do you mean?"
"I don't know. Just leave." He shrugged. "Go off on our own."
I almost huffed. Was he crazy? "I can't leave." I said wide-eyed. "I would never leave my family."
"You're right." Leon said. "It was stupid. Forget I said anything." He pulled me back to him. I had a bunch of other things prepared to say, but I guess I didn't need to say them now. I just let out that held breath and relaxed with him.
Leon and I went to the cabin and had hot make up sex. I finally had an orgasm and since it was long awaited, it seemed that much more gratifying. I was feeling better than ever when I went home that evening, and it seems like Leon and I are closer than ever before because of that fight. We really didn't talk anymore about trying to live together, I guess we didn't want to ruin that moment. But we will figure something out.
Max stopped me as I was walking to my house. "Hey, you seem happier." He pointed out. "Did you break up with him?"
I stopped and gave him a stupid look. "What? No. In fact, we're better than ever." I smirked and started walking again. Max followed me.
"But…how are you gonna—
"We don't know yet." I cut him off. "But we have a good thing going right now so we wanna keep it that way."
"Yeah, but…that seems so complicated. Wouldn't it be easier to date someone else?" Max said. I gave him the side eye. "Someone who lives right here?"
I snorted. "Like who?"
"Well…me." Max said.
I stopped and looked at Max to see if he was being serious, he didn't appear to be joking. I didn't mean to but I scoffed. "Max, you're way too young for me." I laughed. "You're my little brother." I walked by him and went home, he stayed right there.
Narrator's POV
Max stood in the street watching Abby walk by. He couldn't believe what she just said to him. Sure he was a few years younger than her, but it's not like he was a little kid. What Abby said hurt the boy, which made him angry. Max clenched his fist tightly. He was going to get back at her. And he knew exactly how. It was time to tell Rick about Abby's little secret.
Max waited until the next day to make his move. He watched out his window for Abby. Once he saw her, he waited for her to leave like she does everyday to meet up with her dumb savior boyfriend. After that, he went over to the Grimes' residence.
The young boy knocked on the door. His breathing was heavier. Was he really about to do this? He was betraying his friend. Maybe it was a bad idea and he should just run home before someone answers the door. He shook that thought when Abby's words from yesterday came to mind. Little brother? He would show her.
Max knocked louder on the door when no one answered. In a few minutes, the door opened and there stood Rick Grimes. "Oh." The man said. "Max, right?"
"Yeah." He said.
"What can I do for you?"
Max swallowed hard before speaking. "I have something to tell you. May I come in?" He tried to speak as pleasantly as possible.
Rick eyed the young boy suspiciously. "Sure." He opened the door wider and Max stepped inside looking around. Michonne sat Judith in her highchair and began feeding her. Daryl also walked into the room, he glanced at Max and gave Rick a weird look.
"So…you said you have something to tell me?" Rick questioned.
"Yes." Max straightened up. "Maybe you all should hear this." He looked at Michonne and Daryl and walked a little closer to them. Rick followed.
"What?" Daryl questioned and glanced at Rick, then back at the boy.
"Mr. Grimes." Max said. "There's something you should know. It's about Abby." He looked at him seriously. Everyone stopped what they were doing and gave Max their full attention. "She's been…going out everyday and meeting up with some guy." Max finally said it.
"What?" Rick said. "Abby?"
"That's where she's been going everyday." Max nodded once.
"How do you know?" Rick asked.
"That don't sound like Abby." Daryl said. "You sure you got the right person?"
Max gave the man a nod. "I followed her one day. I saw them."
Rick looked down and sighed. "Damnit." He muttered under his breath.
"You haven't even heard the worse part yet." Max said. Rick looked up angrily at the boy. What could he possibly say now? "The guy she's seeing…he's a savior."
It felt like someone hit a mute button because the room fell dead silent after that. "No." Rick finally said. "Abby would never do something like that." He shook his head. "Putting all of us at risk. She's smarter than that."
"There's no way." Michonne said.
"He is! I'm telling you!" Max raised his voice a little. "They meet up everyday at the riverbank." He put his hand out. "She's there right now. Go take a look yourself if you don't believe me."
Rick's eyes moved over to Daryl. They shared a look, then Daryl nodded at the man. Rick let out a sigh. "Let's go." The two man grabbed their weapons, then headed out. Michonne agreed to stay home with Judith. They sure hoped that Max was wrong about this.
Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon went to the spot that Max told them about. Sure enough, they could see Abby. She was talking to a guy that neither of them have ever seen before.
"There she is." Rick said. His expression hardened.
"Looks like that kid was tellin' the truth." Said Daryl.
"Damnit!" Rick said. The two men were a distance away from where Abby and the savior were so they couldn't hear them. "I can't believe it." The father of the girl said angrily. "Abby's done some stuff, but I never thought she'd do this."
Yeah, well…she did." Daryl said. "What do we do? Should we go bust 'em?"
Rick thought for a minute. This could be a good way to get information. To see if this guy was good or bad. What exactly did he want with his daughter? He must be trying something. "No." Rick said. "Let's hang back a while and listen to what they say."
Daryl gave the man a questioningly look but didn't say anything. They moved a little closer so they could hear them better, then stayed back and listened.
"Why's 'e callin' 'er Cathy?" Daryl asked more to himself.
"She must've given him a fake name so he can't find out where she's from." Rick suggested. "Good girl."
It wasn't until Abby started giving out information about Alexandria that Rick decided to intervene.
Abby's POV
"Maybe we should have a contest." I said to Leon while we were fishing. "To see who catches the most fish. What do you think, Adam?"
"No. You're too competitive." He smirked.
"Aw, come on. What are you scared?" I teased him.
He snorted. "Of you, Cathy? Yes." He let out a laugh. I did too.
"Yeah, you're right. We should save that energy for the cabin." I gave him a lascivious look. He smirked and I laughed.
There was a brief pause. "So…you and your family are real close?"
I smiled before answering. "Yeah. I'm super close with my dad but we've always been that way." I nodded and looked back towards the water. "I'm close with Daryl too." I looked back at him. "He's my favorite person next to my dad."
Leon gave me a look. "Are you related?"
"Not by blood, no." I looked at him with a hand up to my face to shield the sun. "He's a friend but we consider each other family."
He nodded. "I get it." There was another pause. "So, I was thinking about what you said. About me coming to live with you?" Leon said. I looked at him. "I was trying to think of a way I could get away."
I was happy that he was considering it, but I was also a little confused. "Does Negan still force people to stay there? I thought he changed?"
"He has." Leon said. "Well, I mean…I didn't know him before but…we can leave if we want. It's just…where would I tell him I was going? Why would I just leave on my own when I have food and shelter there?"
"Yeah, I see what you mean." I looked down and sighed. "Well…can't you just say you're going on a long run and you don't know if you'll be back?"
Leon hesitated. "…I could but…if someone would find out…I don't wanna cause problems for your communities."
I nodded. Another good point. "Damn." I started to feel upset again.
"Cathy. Cathy." Leon grabbed my hands and forced me to look at him. "It'll work out. We'll think of something."
"I know but…doesn't seem to go that way so far."
"I know." He looked how I felt. There was another pause. "Have you ever been to The Sanctuary?" He asked I guess trying to change the subject.
"I have." I nodded. "Have you ever been to Alexandria?"
"I've never been inside but I drove passed it." He stated. "It looks nice there."
"It is." I nodded. "So you know it's West of The Sanctuary?" I don't even know why I said it.
"Yeah." He nodded. "Hey, The Sanctuary is East of Alexandria." He joked. We both laughed. "Maybe I could visit one time?"
"Yeah you should, Adam." I nodded. "I can tell you exactly how to get there. Or I can just show you."
"Abigail!" I heard a familiar voice and tensed up. No. My dad came out from the bushes along with Daryl. My worst nightmare was becoming a reality.
"Daddy?" I said and jumped up. Leon did too.
"What the hell are you doin'?" My dad yelled at me.
I got really nervous and glanced at Leon. "This…this is—
"Yeah, we know who he is." Daryl said roughly. "What are you doin' with 'im?"
"Uh…" I glanced at Leon and back at them unsure of what to say.
"It doesn't matter." My dad said. "Whatever this is," he made a gesture with his hands, "is over." My eyes widened. "Abigail, start walkin' home."
"But—
"And I don't wanna hear a damn word outta your mouth til we get back." He said. I stood there. "Now!"
My dad has never been that harsh with me before, he also seemed really angry. I better just do what he says. I looked at Daryl for help, he just stared at Leon. He's not going to say anything. Leon and I shared a look, I wanted to kiss him goodbye because who knows when we'll get to see each other again, but I didn't. I just turned and started towards home. I could hear my dad saying something to Leon and looked back, but they only talked briefly. They were headed my way. I turned back forward. This is going to be bad.
"Do you realize how much you put at risk here?" My dad yelled at me once we were back home. Daryl and Michonne were in the room too. "And what the hell were doin' tellin' him our location?" He snapped.
I thought that was stupid because Negan and the saviors have been here before, so they know where we live. "He already knows—I stopped myself because I realized something about what my dad said. "Wait…you guys were listening?"
"Yeah." Daryl said. "Me and yer dad were hangin' back listenin' and seein' what he'd say to you."
I looked down with wide-eyes. Leon and I talk about personal, private things. How much did they hear exactly? Did they hear my joke about the cabin? Did Daryl hear me talking about him? I felt violated.
"You…" I trailed off and shook my head. "You guys had no right to do that. We were talking about personal things."
"Abigail." My dad shook his head like that wasn't important. "We made an agreement! After everything we've been through! After everything we fought for! It was all for nothing because you just ruined that agreement!"
"Dad!" I shook my head. "No one's gonna know!" I yelled back.
"You better hope the hell they don't!" He snapped.
"You don't thank he told one 'a his buddies about you?" Daryl said. He spoke a lot calmer than my dad.
"I didn't tell anyone about him." I said even though that technically wasn't true. I told Jesus, but he doesn't know Leon is a savior.
"And you think he didn't just because you didn't?" Michonne asked me.
I hesitated and looked at all of them. I started shaking my head before speaking. "He's not like that." I said. My dad let out a laugh. "He's not. He wasn't even with the saviors when we were fighting them."
"If he's with the saviors now, then he's a savior." My dad said. "Especially if he knows what they did."
I stared at my dad, then finally just looked down. They're not listening to me, it doesn't matter what I say. They're never going to accept Leon. Unless…maybe if I tell them about us? "He won't say anything. You guys don't know him like I do."
"You don't know him either." My dad said.
"That's not true." I looked up at him. "He knows me better than anyone right now." I crossed my arms over my chest. "And he cares about me."
My dad snorted. "He told you that, huh?"
"He did more than tell me, he showed me that he cares about me." I said. The room went silent. I could tell by the looks on their faces that Michonne got it first. She looked at me differently.
My dad's expression seemed to change. "No." He said. "Abigail, you didn't."
"I did." I nodded and kept my eyes on him.
"What?" Daryl said. "Did I miss somethin'?" He still didn't get it.
"Abigail, you don't even know…" My dad trailed off.
"Yes, I do." I snapped. "You don't know him! He's a good person!"
"Will someone please tell me what's goin' on here?" Daryl let out a laugh.
"I'm done talking about this." I said and stood up. "Everyone leave me alone."
"Abigail." My dad said. I ignored him and went upstairs to my room.
Narrator's POV
Rick Grimes looked down and sighed while pinching the bridge of his nose. "I can't believe this."
"Abby's a smart girl." Michonne said. "She must really trust him if she and him…" The woman trailed off.
"Yeah or he took advantage of her."
"I still don't get it." Said Daryl.
Rick gave his friend a stupid look. "That guy had sex with Abby." He spat.
"What?" Daryl looked taken aback. "No. Not Abby. She wouldn't do that."
"She's not a little girl anymore." Said Michonne. "She's a woman."
Rick Grimes sighed and put his head in his hands. Michonne had to laugh. Daryl had other thoughts going through his mind. One of them was burying the savior's body.
"I'm gonna go talk to her." The father said and began ascending the stairs.
Abby's POV
I laid on my bed with my arms crossed. There was a part of me that felt relieved that my dad now knows about Leon. However, now that the secret is out, we have to be more careful about who else finds out. My people aren't the problem but if word gets around to The Sanctuary, then that's when the problems happen.
There was a knock on my door. "Abby." It was my dad, he came into the room and closed the door. He just stood there for a minute and looked uncomfortable. "So, you…" He trailed off.
"Yes, dad. I had sex." I said like it was no big deal because it's not. It's normal. "I'm not a little kid. I'm almost twenty and it was about time it happened."
He seemed to hesitate. "…do…do you wanna talk about it?"
I raised my eyebrows. "Not really."
My dad let out a laugh. "You're okay though?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." I reassured him. "And dad, I know you're mad about what I did and I probably should've just told you but…It's not what you think. He's a good guy."
"Yeah, well…you just better hope that Negan doesn't find out about this."
I swallowed and looked down. "I know."
Narrator's POV
Jesus, aka Paul Rovia, tossed and turned in his bed that night trying to get to sleep. The man had been having trouble sleeping ever since Abby told him about the guy she met up with. She wanted him to keep it a secret. It bothered the man more than he thought, he didn't like lying to Maggie.
Jesus sighed and sat up in bed. He knew that if he ever wanted to sleep again that he would have to come clean and talk to Maggie. That's what he decided to do. The man threw his clothes on and left his trailer.
Maggie answered the door. Jesus stood there. She took notice to the man's expression and knew there was something wrong. Not to mention the time of night it was. "Somethin' wrong?"
"Sorry to bother you." Jesus hesitated. "…but we have to talk."
Yikes! D: Now that Abby's secret is out, what do you think will happen?
