Kagome opened her eyes and she looked around. She looked over and there was Inuyasha. He was leaning on his arm on his knee. His other hand was holding hers. His eyes were closed. "Inuyasha?" she asked.
His eyes opened. "Kagome, hey. How are you feeling?" he asked softly. "Are you feeling any pain?" she shook her head. "Not really. Just really sleepy and drained." Inuyasha nodded. "Kaede said when you get a little more stable I should take you home." Kagome shook her head.
"I'll be okay. We should continue our journey to get Naraku." she said, trying to sit up, ignoring the searing pain in her side and the dizziness that came. "Kagome, are you crazy? You were injured badly. You almost bled to death!"
Kagome looked at him. "But I really am okay, Inuyasha. Really. My wound isn't really hurting. We need to move." Inuyasha shook his head. "No, you need to rest for a few days or a few weeks. Like I said you almost bled to death." said Inuyasha, with a hint of annoyance.
"Since when are you adamant about taking the right amount of time to recover from an injury or attack?" she shot back. Inuyasha sighed in annoyance.
"Because you need to rest. You are too injured to move. You were so injured I couldn't take you back to your time. You weren't going to make it." Kagome rolled her eyes. Sango and the others returned.
Kagome looked at him. "So how is any different from any other time that I've been hurt." Inuyasha gritted his teeth and clenched his fist at his side. "Because it is." he gritted out. "Why? Why is this so different? Tell me!" she yelled at him.
"Because I almost lost you!" He yelled. Kagome looked at him taken aback. Her eyes softened. Sango and the others backed back out of the hut.
"You don't get it. I almost lost you. I watched as your blood hit the ground. You almost died in my arms!" Inuyasha looked away from her and he huffed in anger. Kagome sighed and looked at the ground.
"The thing is I do know how it feels." Inuyasha looked at her. "You have been so gravely injured many times over. And I had to watch in horror when you were close to death before. So believe me when I say that I do know how that feels."
Inuyasha looked at her. "I know that horror and anxiety that comes with seeing someone you care about be injured like that. So when I saw that that was going to happen again, I had to do something about it."
"But why?" Kagome looked over at Inuyasha. "Why would you do that? Take the blow?" he asked. Kagome looked at him in confusion. "What do you mean why?" Inuyasha scoffed. "I mean why did you do that? Why did you push me out of the way?"
"You've done it for me hundreds of times." Inuyasha shook his head. "Yeah, but that's because I can take it. I can take the blows and come through it. Because I am not human." Kagome rolled her eyes.
"So?" She said. Inuyasha scoffed. "So!? Blows like that won't kill me. I will heal from them in a matter of days. You will take weeks! It was reckless! Stupid!" He yelled. Kagome clenched her fists.
"When are you going to get it Inuyasha!?" she screamed. Inuyasha gasped and looked at her in surprise, sitting back slightly.
"I did it because you mean so much to me! When will you understand that you are just as important to me as I am to you!? You have taken blow after blow for me! Whether you were human or hanyou! You always protected me! I wanted to do the same for you!"
Her eyes filled her eyes. "Why can't you understand that?" she asked, bowing her head, allowing the tears to fall from her eyes. Inuyasha softened and he reached over and thumbed the tears from her eye.
"I'm sorry. I didnt mean to get you all upset. It was just terrifying for me." he said gently. She looked at him, tears still streaming down her face. They leaned in. Inuyasha's ears twitched and he growled, looking around.
"What is it?" asked Kagome. "Naraku." he spit out. He stood up and walked to the doorway. "You stay here. "I'll be back for you." Kagome sighed and nodded. Inuyasha ran out. "Shippo, stay with Kagome." called Inuyasha. Shippo nodded.
Inuyasha unsheathed his sword and aimed it at his enemy. "What the hell are you doing here, Naraku!?" He yelled. "I thought that was simple. I want the remaining jewel shards. I am taking Kagome for them."
Inuyasha growled. "The hell you will! Adamant barrage!" he screamed. "Hiraikotsu!" yelled Sango as she and Miroku came flying in on Kirara. Naraku sent hundreds of demons at them.
Kagome struggled to stand up. "Kagome! Lie down you are too injured to walk." said Shippo. Kagome looked at Shippo. "I need to help them Shippo. I can't just sit here and do nothing." Shippo shook his head.
"But you're in danger of reopening your wound." Kagome nodded. "I know. But I need to help the others. Please, help me." she asked. Shippo sighed and nodded. Kagome makes her way with the help of Shippo's fox magic.
They come out to Naraku having Inuyasha by the throat. She looked at Shippo. "Can you get me over there?" Shippo nodded. He transformed and they floated over to them. Kagome ignored the pain in her side as she mounts an arrow.
She lets it go and it hits Naraku. Naraku growled at Kagome. "Impudent wench. I am tired of you always being in the way. Just die already!" He yelled. He pulsated as did Kagome. She gasped and she drops on top of Shippo.
"Kagome!" yelled Inuyasha as he raced over toward her. Kagome struggled to pick her body up. She mustered her strength and she released another arrow. It did no damage.
"You're nothing but a mere mortal. You're nothing. So start acting like it!" He sent a tentacle at her. It wrapped around her waist and started to toss her around and was going toward Naraku.
"Kagome!"
"Inuyasha!"
Inuyasha grabbed her by the hand, straining to keep hold of her. Another tentacle wraps itself around Inuyasha.
"Kagome, hang on! I've got you!" he said. She nodded. Naraku sent miasma at them. Kagome started to feel weak and cough. Her hold loosens.
"Kagome, hang on!" he begged as she struggled to breathe. He felt her grip loosen more. His hand slips through his, their fingers intertwined. Kagome is struggling to breathe. "Hiraikotsu!" yelled Sango.
The boomerang does nothing to the tentacle. He sends demons at Sango and Miroku. Kagome's grip is loosening more and more. Inuyasha tightened his grip as much as he could. He glared at Naraku.
"Damn you to hell Naraku!" he screamed. Naraku laughed. "What pisses you off more Inuyasha? The fact that I am still breathing or that your precious Kagome is going to be taken from you?" Inuyasha growled angrily.
"Hiraikotsu!" Yelled Sango, putting her all into the swing. It cuts Kagome free. Inuyasha cuts himself free and reaches for her. Naraku is quicker another tentacle grabs Kagome by the arms and wrenches her toward him.
"Naraku damn, you to hell!" He screamed. He summons adamant barrage. He goes to take a swing and Naraku puts Kagome in front of him. Inuyasha stopped dead.
"Come on Inuyasha, what's stopping you? I am right here. Go on and swing your sword." Inuyasha growled. Kagome came around. "Dammit Naraku!" yelled Sango.
Kagome looked around for Inuyasha, her vision blurry. She laid eyes on Inuyasha. "K….him." she said lowly, barely able to talk. Inuyasha looked at her with confusion. "Kill him." she whispered, her throat burning from the miasma fumes.
"Kill him Inuyasha!" she yelled. They all stopped and looked at her. "Kill him. Take the shot!" yelled Kagome.
"Kagome, shut up!" yelled Inuyasha. "Kill him Inuyasha! Please! Kill him!" she yelled. "Don't let him use me! Kill him!" she yelled.
"Shut up Kagome!"
"No! Kill him, Inuyasha. Put an end to it all! Raise tetsusaiga and kill him!" She screamed. Kagome looked at the man that she loved more than anything. "Inuyasha." He looked up at her. His golden amber eyes meeting her chocolate brown ones.
"Think about the hell that he put you through. Put you all through. Killing Kikyo twice. Cursing Miroku's family with the wind tunnel. Slaughtering Sango's people and possessing Kohaku. Don't let me keep you from taking your revenge. You all deserve your revenge. Just kill him."
Inuyasha's eyes looked tortured as he looked at Kagome. "Avenge your love's death." She said with a warm smile. "It's okay."
Inuyasha raised his sword. "Adamant…" He looked back at Kagome. Her chocolate held such warmth and tears. She closed her eyes, tears falling, a sad smile on her face. Inuyasha took a breath. "Adamant…."
He looked at her and he lowered his sword. "I can't." Naraku laughed cruelly. "Even with that sword of yours, you are still weak." Inuyasha bowed his head. "Just remember that you did this." he said. He leaned into Kagome, putting his lips to her ear.
"It seems that you really will have that agonizing death after all. But not yet." He dropped her. Kagome fell, looking at Naraku as she fell. Inuyasha gasped and he jumped up, catching her. He landed, looking up to Naraku disappearing.
"Kagome, are you okay?" asked Inuyasha. "Mmm-hmmm." She mumbled. Inuyasha hugged her to him as he carried her bridal style. "What the hell was that? Why capture her just to release her?" asked Miroku.
Inuyasha shrugged. "I don't know. But there has to be a reason. But until we know that reason we just have to keep Kagome close." the others nodded. A smell entered his nose. "Her wound reopened."
He looked down at her. "Let's get you back to Kaede." Kagome nodded, exhausted. Kagome leaned into his chest and she listened to his heartbeat. They made it back to the hut. Kagome's wounds were redressed and everyone decided to call it a night and get some rest.
Inuyasha opened his eyes a few hours later and looked around. Everyone was asleep. Shippo was sleeping by Kagome's head. Miroku and Sango were sleeping in each other's arms. Kaede was also asleep.
He moved silently to be closer to the sleeping miko. He laid down next to her, moving her hair from her face. He hated that he could still smell her blood on her. Something else bothered him. She smelled off to him. Her sweet strawberry smell that he came to love was off.
The scene of Kagome telling him to kill her was running in a circle in his brain. It really bothered him. She was willing to die so he could carry out his avenging of Kikyo. That may have been the main reason for his mission but now it was more than that.
It was because he pitted him and Kikyo against each other. For what he did to Miroku and Sango, Kohaku. And now what he did to Kagome. He was fighting for them all. He wasn't just fighting for Kikyo anymore. He was fighting for his friends. His family.
He looked at Kagome. He couldn't believe how selfless she was. He looked at her with love in his eyes. Concern filled his eyes. "What did Naraku mean when he said I did this when he dropped you? What did he do to you Kagome?" he asked her sleeping form. He closed his eyes and he allowed sleep to overtake him.
