Chapter IX: Sink Or Swim.

Last Time.

Kim shrugged before replying. "Well, the fundraising, the awesome uniforms, and that new cheer? I've gotta admit, you rock."

"Really?"

Kim raised her arm again. "So, all in favor of Bonnie?"

All voted for Bonnie before Kim looked at her. "You've worked really hard for this."

"Yes! Glad that's over."

"Bonnie, you're the captain now! You do realize the hard work's just beginning?" Kim asked as Bonnie blinked.

"You're kidding, right?"

"You know, suddenly I couldn't be happier for you." Kim smiled as Naruto walked up.

"Captain Bonnie."

"I've gotta keep working hard?! This is so unfair!" Bonnie whined as she walked away.

"You counting on the fact that she'll only last a month?"

Kim smiled at that. "I give her two weeks, tops."

Naruto smiled as he put his arm around her shoulder, getting her entire face to blush.

Now.

Germany.

Naruto, in his mission clothes with his watch on his left wrist along with a team of archaeologists, one middle-aged and one younger man with a female walk along a hall within an old castle.

"And Mad King Ludwig would invite guests into the Castle Linderhof, where they would fall victim to any of his dozens of deadly traps."

"Rude."

Naruto turned to look at the younger male archaeologist who spoke up. "Ha! That's why his name was not "Lovable Ludwig" or "Good Neighbor King of Bavaria"." Naruto joked as he looked down and stopped them. "Ah! Stand back!"

He kneels and reveals a thin wire running across either end of the hall using a small can of spray paint. "Ah, come on, what are the odds that these traps still-" The younger archaeologist stopped as Naruto snatched his cap from his head and carefully dropped it on top of the wire which promptly caused two large blocks to jolt from either side of the walls, crashing together.

Naruto picks up the hat and puts it back on his head before walking in front of a heavy stone door. He sticks two of his fingers into a skull's empty eye sockets and pulls, lifting the door to the ceiling and revealing a room filled with treasure. "Ludwig's lost treasure!"

Naruto and the others walked in before he looked at the three. "I'm sure the booty is booby-trapped, so don't-!" Skip races ahead excitedly and retrieves a jewel-encrusted golden sword from the treasure pile, causing the entire room to shake. "… Touch anything." He sighed as the stone door began to slide shut. Naruto kicks a spear in its path, wedging the door open momentarily. "Go! Go! Go!"

Naruto's companions flee the treasure room, but Naruto fails to reach the door in time before it seals shut. "Ah! Bad day." Suddenly, dozens of arrows shoot across the room from either side of the walls, having Naruto dodge them. "Bad day! Bad day! Bad day! Bad day! Bad day!"

Naruto picks up a golden shield from the treasure pile to deflect the incoming arrows before leaping up the wall to an opening where he descends down a steep slope atop the shield, breaking out of the castle onto the mountainside, sliding toward the castle's main entrance to his companions. "Snowboarding works much better with snow."

Night, Middleton Cheer Squad.

"Go Mad Do-ogs! Go-Go Mad Do-ogs!"

Barkin growled as he drove a bus for the cheerleaders and Ron to a cheer competition. "Go Mad Do-ogs! Go-Go Mad Do-ogs!"

"Let's save some of the pep for the competition ladies."

"Go Mad Do-ogs! Go-Go Mad Do-ogs!"

Ron put his Mad Dog head on and shook it, having foam fly out of his mouth. "Go Mad Dooogs! Go-Go Mad Dooogs!"

"Stoppable!"

"Kim! He's doing it again!" Bonnie complained to Kim who looked back.

"Ron. Ron. Ron!"

"What?!"

"You should-uh-hold back until the competition. You know, pace yourself."

"Can't hold back KP the Mad Dog came to play." Ron took his head off as Rufus raised his arms.

"Yay-hey."

Kim puts Rufus' arms down at that. "No. Ron. You're already on thin ice with these girls, OK, can you try to be somewhat normal."

"Is there anyone who is not the boss of me?"

"I'm so not bossy." Kim bit back as Ron crossed his arms

"Except when you're telling me what to do."

"Mmm-hmm! Bossy." Rufus pointed at Kim before the bus stopped at the Community College.

"Are we there?"

"Nope," Barkin replied before opening the door. "Uzumaki! What are you doing here?"

"Had a mission but it looks like my ride was burglarized," Naruto replies walking in as the moon came out of a cloud and showed his moped that was missing wheels. "I'm starting to rethink going to college."

"Well, there's no seats left but in the back, you can call a ride when we get to the competition."

"OK, my watch has no signal anyway."

"You can sit here."

Naruto looked up to see several of the squad members raising their hands. "I… will take a seat in the back, don't wanna inconvenience anyone."

"We could sit on your lap," Bonnie said as Naruto got to the back behind her.

"Wait a minute, this road looks familiar. Too familiar!" Ron said before he grabbed the Kimmunicator. "Wade I need a GPS lock on our position"

"OK calm down Mad Dog," Wade said typing on his computer. "Locked." The Kimmunicator revealed the location: Camp Wannaweep.

"That can't be right. That can't be right!"

"Ro-on." Kim looked back at that.

"It. It's m-mu-mu-mu-mu-mu my worst nightmare! (Rufus whimpers then climbs into Ron's pocket) Return to Camp Wannaweep! AAAAAAH!"

"Stoppable! Do we have a problem?" Barkin asked, looking at the mirror.

"Drive! Drive fast! Drive like my life depends on it!"

"What are you yammering about?"

"It was the worst summer of all time, I swore I'd never come back to Camp Wannaweep. NEVER!" Ron yelled as the bus ran over some nails, and the tires popped.

"No bus wipes out on Steve Barkin's watch!" Barkin swerved to have the bus stop. "Sound off if you're hurtin'."

"I'm OK."

"Fine."

"It's alright."

"It's OK."

Rufus pokes out of Ron's pocket and wipes his forehead before Ron speaks. "I'm hurting."

Barkin climbs out to look at the tires and reveals the Camp Wannaweep entrance. "Dandy. We got two flats, better call for help."

"Ladies. Cell phones."

Everyone except Naruto, Ron, and Mr. Barkin takes out their cell phones and attempts to dial.

"No service!"

"That's weird. Well, the Kimmunicator isn't working either."

"Stoppable, you know the lay of the land?" Barkin asked Ron as he stepped back in.

"Every rock, every tree, every bloodthirsty tick. It haunts me."

"Good. Where's the phone?"

Ron flashes back to his summer at Camp Wannaweep with a payphone at a tree. "I seem to recall a payphone."

Barkin nodded at that. "Lead the way."

"Mr. Barkin, I am not... What did you say?"

"I said lead the way."

Ron smiled and stood at that. "Yeah, this is it, the one time Ron Stoppable gets to lead gets to call the shots, gets to be the big boss man."

"Ron just puh-lease take us to the payphone." Kim sighed, pinching her nose.

"Oh I will, but you need to understand this... I am your only hope."

"What?! Ron, normal."

"Listen up, people, Camp Wannaweep is a dangerous and wicked place, and only I, Ron Stoppable, know how to survive here." They all walked out at that. "Don't believe me, see that, poison oak. How do I know?" Ron asked, pointing to said plant. "This is a place of evil. Stay close and you'll stay alive."

"Already going to his head," Naruto whispered to Kim who sighed before looking back.

"Why are you here? I didn't get to ask before Ron grabbed my Kimmunicator."

"GJ wanted me for a bodyguard mission similar to when Monkey Fist hired us."

"No monkey statues?"

"Nope, just finding treasure… I got a shield to their researcher but left as he kept going on with 'One more thing'."

They then got to the pay phone that saw better days before Kim tried it and sighed.

"Out of order."

"I don't like this."

"Place of eviiil," Ron said as Tara grabbed Naruto's arm at that.

"This is just like those movies. Innocent teens, stranded at a camp in the middle of nowhere. Then, some creepo starts to pick them off. One. By. One."

"So not the drama Tara, this isn't a horror movie."

"Oh isn't it?" Ron asks as he shines his flashlight under his face.

"O-kay, if it were a horror movie, there'd be more guys. And they'd be as cute as him." Bonnie said, pointing to Naruto.

"What?"

"Oh Bonnie, you remind me of the cruel kids at camp. Sticks and stones." Ron said to the cheerleader.

"Uh! They called you names?!"

Ron nodded at that. "Yes. While hitting me with sticks and stones."

"(Gasp!) I saw somethin' move." Crystal said as Kim shone the flashlight revealing a squirrel.

The squirrel takes a nut and runs away, then comes back and quickly grabs the other nut. "It's just a squirrel."

"Just a squirrel! Really?!"

"So you've always been a piece of work, huh, Stoppable," Barkin asked as Ron remembered being attacked by the squirrels at camp.

"They were bigger then."

"Sure you weren't just smaller."

"They were bigger."

Kim sighed as she stepped in front of the group. "Well, it looks like we're stuck for the night. Okay, let's make the best of it."

"Yes, right, follow me."

Later, the group's sitting at a fireplace with the squad staying near Naruto as they hear the wildlife scaring them as Ron's telling a story walking back and forth. "I was trapped, hiding in the hollow of a tree (Gasp), and then the woodpeckers came."

Bonnie leaned to Kim at that. "Your freaky friend is acting extra freaky."

"He's not freaky Bonnie." Kim sighed as Ron gasped as he looked in one direction, then gasped again as he looked in another. "OK he kinda is but it's not his fault."

"It's the curse of Camp Wannaweep."

"What if he's right? What if this place is cursed?" Tara said from her spot

"Tara, please."

"Stoppable. You're working on my nerves." Barkin sighed as Ron turned to him.

"Mr. B shush. We've got a rustle in the brush." Ron walks to a bush that's rustling as Kim goes over and stops him.

"Ron, I think we've established that the squirrels mean us no harm."

"What's that supposed to mean?!"

Kim brought him back missing a webbed hand open the bush. "Let's just enjoy the campfire and relax." As Kim and Ron walk away, the bush opens more to reveal some sort of green human-fish mutant.

Later, Naruto walked back with wood as Tara sat beside Ron. "So, you've shared a cabin with a tick-infested chimp?"

"Yeah, that's right. This place holds a lot of memories for me. Some bad, some... No, no-no all bad."

Kim groaned as she stood. "I umm, I'm going to go get some more firewood, yeah."

"Ooo. KP, Camp Wannaweep rule number one, use the buddy system."

"Oh, well, I think I can handle it."

Barkin walked over at that. "He's right, Possible, I'll go too."

"Mr. B's with the program."

Barkin leans down to whisper to Kim. "I can not take another camp story."

"Why do you think I'm going?"

Barkin and Kim are walking in the woods, but the creature from before starts following them.

"You know Ron, I happen to think it's kind of nice here," Tara said as Rufus gasped while Ron gave her a weird look.

"Oh really?"

"Sure, I mean the woods are, you know, woodsy and, well,(Bonnie shakes her head) just look at the lake, it seems so peaceful."

"Ah yes, Lake Wannaweep." Ron pointed at the lake that was green and bubbly. "How I hated that lake."

"Not another story."

Ron then explained how a camper named Gil practically lived in the lake and he decided to give Gil his swim time so he wouldn't have to swim. "That was the last time I ever saw Gil."

"Sooo, you've been a loser for, like, ever," Bonnie said as Naruto took a long stick and broke it to have a sharp end. "Why'd you do that?"

"Help out a survival education show, 'It Takes Two To Survive'", and a weapon is something to have/make to protect yourself. This camp's been closed down for a long time and I'm sure predator animals moved in when they noticed the human activity was gone."

A few minutes go by beside Kim walks back alone. "Have you seen Barkin?"

"Kim, duh. Barkin's with you."

"Not anymore," Kim replied to Bonnie as she got back to the fire.

"So, where is he?"

"I-I-I-I don't know, there wer-, there were these weird sounds, he was there, more weird sounds, and then he disappeared," Kim explained to Tara.

"What!"

"Uhh, where are Liz and Marcella?" Kim asked as Tara pointed to the side.

"They went to the little girl's cabin."

"AAHH!"

They hear Liz and Marcella scream, Kim rushes off to save them with Ron and Naruto in hot pursuit. "KP the buddy system!" After reaching Kim at the outhouses, Ron has to catch his breath. "Kim. Do I have to remind you about the importance of the buddy system?"

"It didn't help Liz and Marcella."

Hearing Rufus, Naruto looked down and saw Rufus jump up and down, and point to a three-toed footprint. "That's not a human footprint Kim," Naruto said, crouching down to get a better look.

"OK, I'm getting a little freaked out here."

"There's only one place to go. Cabin 13." Ron said before hearing a wolf howl

Later, they are all inside the old cabin. "In this very cabin, I was able to survive every evil Camp Wannaweep could throw at me. This will be our base of operations."

"Uh, Ron?"

"Yes, Tara?"

"I'm hungry."

Ron removed a rug and pulled on a board revealing a hidden compartment with bags of chips. "My secret stash of snacks." Ron grabs a bag and hands it to Tara.

"Cool."

"Tara, those are ancient."

"Gr-oss!" Bonnie complained to Kim as Ron held up a bag.

"Pop-Pop Porter's food-style pork wafers have enough preservatives to last for decades."

"And wreck your body… We always get our food fresh from a butcher." Naruto spoke as he looked out the window holding his makeshift spear.

"Great, our squad is short two people and there is nobody to drive us to the competition." Bonnie sighed before Crystal grabbed her arms and tried to shake some sense into her.

"Dude! Forget the competition. How are we going to survive the night? There's something out there."

"OK, OK, you're right... Do you think that something can drive?"

"Everybody stay calm. I'm going to handle this. Here's the plan…" Kim stopped as Ron tapped her on the shoulder.

"Uh, excuse me."

"What?!"

"On the school bus, Barkin's in charge, when we're saving the world, you're in charge, but here at Camp Wannaweep, I'm in charge."

Kim sighed at that. "Ron, this is serious."

"Hello-o, note serious face," Ron said pointing to his face before hearing Barkin.

"Possible!"

Naruto, Kim, and Ron ran out to see Barkin running with his body wrapped in green slime. "Possible."

"It's OK Mr. Barkin, we're here."

"It's. Drippin' and oozin' muck."

"Mr. B., What exactly is it?" Ron asked the teacher who gagged.

"Freakish it's-it. Makes me ill to visualize it.'

"Oh come on, I'm sure I've faced worse... Did you say oozing muck?" Kim asked before they heard the rest of the cheerleaders scream and a crashing noise."

"And it's back there."

Naruto, Kim, Ron, and Barkin rush back to the cabin where it expands until it explodes and green slime spills out. All of the cheerleaders, including Liz and Marcella, are trapped in slime, and someone else is standing in the cabin.

He has greenish, fish-scaled skin with black sludge that acted as his shirt and pants, clawed webbed hands and feet, pitch-red eyes with black pupils, four fangs in his mouth, very thick light green lips, and frills on his neck and spiked fin on his head to replace his hair with frilled ears and a black unibrow.

"That's the guy."

"He is freakish," Ron said getting the mutant's attention

"I heard that squeeb. Remember me?"

"Not really, an-and I gotta tell you, I think I'd remember."

"Oh come on Ronnie think. We switched places, you took my arts & crafts, and I took your swim time."

"Gil?!" Ron asked with wide eyes.

"Gil...?"

"Gil-who?" Kim asked as Gil turned to her.

"Oh, I am no longer Gil. Now I am Gill."

"Uhhh, what's the difference?" Ron asked as Gill pointed to his gills.

"I added an "L" You know as in gill, as in, these things that grew when I mutated!" Gill shoots slime out of his hands and sticks Kim on a tree as Naruto dodges.

"Kim!"

He and Ron ran over as Gill got in front of them. "Step away from Miss Possible Ronnie!"

"How do you know her?"

"Oh, I know all about your life squeeb. It's been going great, hasn't it?"

"I-I've got some complaints, but who doesn't?" Ron waved his hands at that.

"Is one of your complaints that you're a stinkin' mutant!"

"Alright son, let's take a time-out here before things get out of hand," Barkin said before Gill blasted him with slime and stuck him to another tree.

"Do you mind? Can't you see I'm catching up with my old camp buddy? So Ron, did you ever hear why they shut down the camp?"

"Uh, no."

"Turns out, oh you're gonna love this, the lake had been polluted, by run-off from the science camp." He pointed to one of the camps that shared the lake with waste being poured in from it.

"I thought that was the Band camp."

"No, that's band camp." Gill pointed to a camp with an amphitheater.

"Really, I thought that was Clown camp," Ron said as Gill pointed at Clown camp that has a circus.

"No, that's clown camp. "

"Oh-oh yeah, I loved those clowns."

"Uh! The point is, the lake was toxic."

Ron nodded at that as he placed his hands in his pockets. "See, I thought that lake was funky, man I'm glad I never went in, you on the other hand you practically… lived in that water."

"While you made wallets."

"And lanyards. I ruled at lanyards…" Ron trailed off as Kim looked at Gill.

"Look, we know plenty of scientists, maybe someone can cure you."

"Science! Science made me like this."

"Are you sure it wasn't the clowns?"

"Aren't you wondering how I jammed all your communications?" Gill asked them.

"Equipment stolen from Telecommunications camp," Kim spoke as Gill blinked.

"Lucky guess."

"So you were behind the blowout on the bus and everything, why?" Naruto asked holding his spear

"All part of my plan to get revenge against Ron Stoppable."

"Part of me is terrified, and yet part of me is flattered."

"Did I mention, that contact with this muck, will turn you into a mutant just. Like. Me."

Kim gasped at that. "Well. You left that part out."

"This is sick and wrong!" Barkin shouted as his neck started to turn.

"Aaaah, there is no way they're going to let a squad of mutant cheerleaders in the competition."

"Don't you get it? It was all a trap. And guess what Ronnie? You're next." Gill closes in on Ron.

"Hey Gill, heh, maybe this is a good time to sing the Camp Wannaweep friendship song. "Gill gets angrier then spits gunk at Ron, who dodges it then slides under Gill.

"Give it up Ronnie."

"Not when I've got my old Cabin 13 escape tunnel handy." Ron then lifts the floorboard then slides down it."

"He's ditching us."

"That ditcher!"

"Ron does not ditch," Naruto said before jumping up from being shot with muck.

He threw his spear missing Gill before turning to run to another building, dodging the muck shot at him. Getting in, he saw the sports equipment before picking up a bat. Gill broke in before being hit in the side by Naruto's bat. Gill groaned before jumping to attack, pushing Naruto back. Naruto grabbed Gill and pushed him back before a lanyard net fell on him from the window. Naruto dashed over and speared him through the door before rolling off and groaning as he held his shoulder.

"Free swim's over."

Naruto looked to see Ron walking over with Rufus.

Morning.

Naruto sat on the wood fence as men in hazmat sprayed the others to cure them as Gill was placed in a large bowl.

"Enjoying the show?"

He looked up to see Kim who was still wet. "Hell yeah-!"

Smack!

"Ow!"

"Language Naruto!"

Naruto rubbed the back of his head at that. "Some thanks for helping save you."

"Dr. Lurkin specializes in genetic mutations." Kim turned to Ron as a man in a hazmat suit with short blonde hair and glasses walked up to them.

"So, you think you can reverse Gill's mutation?"

"Well, I specialize in genetically altered rutabaga, so this should be quite a challenge."

"I will have my revenge!" Gill shouted as his bowl was put on a flatbed truck.

"Oh, don't worry, we'll fix him up," Lurkin said as the truck drove off.

"Get normal soon Gill!"

Naruto rubbed his neck before the cheer squad thanked him with kisses on the cheek with Bonnie last. "No need for that, that's what I do." He said as Barkin shook his hand before they all went to thank Ron as well with Tara kissing his cheek.

"You know it's not like you're not still you know, you. But it would really stink if that jerk turned us into mutants. And you were. kind of... brave and all." Bonnie crossed her arms at that as Ron smiled.

"Who rocks?"

"(Sigh) You do." She walked off at that as Ron cheered.

Naruto hopped off the fence and walked up to the police cars that were giving them rides home.
