The evening came for them to flee the desert. The day before, Lucline had taught another three letters to Tira while Rasina dealt with four men that had tried to break into the house. They had not even detected the wards that Minrre had placed on the building and were easy prey for Rasina. She hoped at least one of them would survive to be questioned, but even with their little poison stash removed, they were clever at preventing themselves from talking.

Lucline did a psjiic projection to Tira's mother so the girl could tell her parents goodbye. For safety, they did not tell her mother where they were going however. You never knew, the Brotherhood could have found a way to listen in on a psjiic projection.

Lobamog came a little before it was time for them to leave. Tira was chatting to him about Illusion magic. Lucline smiled as Lobamog gave her a heartfelt explanation of combat using Illusion.

She leaned her head against Rasina's shoulder. Something was nagging at the back of her mind. She wondered if leaving the warded house was a mistake.

"Getting away from the place where they know she is has to be for the best. There is no way they could know where we are going."

Lucline shook her head. "We took a portal back from Bergama. How did they know she would be here that quickly?"

Tira suddenly stopped and looked at Lucline, her eyes wide. "Miss Lucline, call Mama, please!" She begged.

Lucline knitted her eyebrows together, but the alarm in Tira's voice decided her. She conjured a psjiic projection to Tira's home. The woman appeared, looking as if she was leaning against a wall. There was a shaft sprouting from her chest.

Tira let out a scream of pain and anger and tried to apporach her mother, only to pass through.

"Oh, Miss Lucline…" Alcena had a small trickle of blood coming from her lips. "I wish you hadn't called me right now. Tira asked you too, I take it?"

She felt numb, far to numb to respond to the clearing dying woman.

"Sweetheart, I'm sorry. The mages arrived from the Society. We welcomed them into our home. They conjured weapons out of thin air. Your father… he's already gone, honey. I think they wanted me to die slow just so I could bring a shock to my child. I hate that they were able to use me like this."The evening came for them to flee the desert. Tira let out a scream of pain and anger and tried to apporach her mother, only to pass through.

"Oh, Miss Dufrey…" Alcena had a small trickle of blood coming from her lips.

I hate that they were able to use me like this."

"Mama, please hold on. We'll come and save you."

The woman shook her head. "I've lost too much blood. I'm sorry honey, I can hear Leki calling from the Far Shores. Your father and I will be waiting for you. Live a long life, my child. Miss Dufrey… Lucline… please look after my daughter."

Lucline felt tears sting her blue eyes. "I swear it."

Alcena laid her head back, her eyes start to glaze. Lucline ended the projection. Tira buried her head in Lucline's stomach. She wrapped her arms around the girl and pulled her close. Anger burned in her veins. Brotherhood assassins posing as Society Mages. It was disgusting. She was doing her best to comfort the girl when the window burst open, and something rolled along the floor next to Rasina.

"Everyone out, now!" Her girlfriend called and Lucline grabbed Tira and rushed outside, followed by Rasina and Lobamog.

As they got out into the courtyard, they noticed there were surrounded by people in cloaks, summoning weapons with Conjuration magic. Behind them, there was an explosion of power and Ice covered the room, blocking them from easily getting back inside.

"A set up." Rasina squinted her eyes.

One figure in a golden robe stepped forward, a conjured greatsword in their hands.

"You have one change, hand over the girl or perish and we'll take her from your corpses."

A/N: And we reach the end of this week. Tira is an orphan now and the gang finds their plans undone by the Brotherhood right as they were questioning how they were found in the first place. What is going to happen next? Join me Sunday for more.
