"Have you seen this log?!" Keats said, trying to talk to a random couple walking by.
Standing on a street corner, Keats had several flyers in his hands that had an image of Timburr's log in black and white and says "Lost Wood! Pleaz give info!" on it. Standing nearby was Druddigon, holding similar papers in his claws, Shellder with a paper held up in her tongue raised high, and Stunky holding a stack in his mouth and attempting to hand them out to people.
"Timburr..." Timburr said in a distraught tone, sitting on an upside down milkcrate.
"Pineco... Pineco." Pineco said to Timburr, attempting to reassure the Fighting type over his missing weapon.
"This is far from ideal..." Rotom thought as the floating phone Pokémon looked at Pineco and Timburr.
"Hey! Have you seen this wood?!" Keats said as he stopped a man in a grey suit and grey shaggy hair.
"Sir, please leave me alone." The suited man said as he walked past Keats, the chubby trainer looking back at him with disdain.
"Oh classy, real classy! Go get a freaking haircut and get a suit that doesn't match your hair! You look like a dingus!" Keats exclaimed loudly as the man walked away. "Damn it, what are we doing wrong?!" He asked towards Druddigon and Stunky, both shrugging in confusion as Shellder made a confused look in her eyes.
"Maybe you zzzzhould have picked a better kind of flyer than just using a random image of a log with zero explanation." Rotom said. "And spelled "please" correctly." The phone Pokémon thought.
"Whatever! We just need to figure out where the heck Timburr's log went!" Keats exclaimed.
Suddenly, as Keats talked with his Pokémon, a woman on a police motorcycle drove up to the curb. Turning his head, Keats looked to a familiar woman with blue hair tied down in a tail and sporting a police uniform of a blue button up, long black pants, a black police vest, fingerless gloves and a hat with a gold symbol on it.
"Officer Jenny?" Keats said. "Looks better than the Unova Jenny's." He thought as he was judging her appearance.
"Excuse me sir but do you have a permit to pass out those flyers?" Officer Jenny said.
"No but have you seen my Pokémon's wood?" Keats said as he showed the flyer to the policewoman.
"...No and pick your words more carefully..." Officer Jenny said, disturbed by Keats' random forwardness. "Look, I'm sorry but you're going to need a permit if you want to pass these out in the city. Rules and regulations for Hau'oli." She said as Keats bit his lip.
"Are you kidding me right now!?" Keats said loudly. "Look at him!" He said as he pointed at Timburr, the Fighting type looking at the ground with a depressed expression. "That log is his whole life! Look online and tell me if you haven't seen a Timburr without a squared piece of wood!" Keats said while pointing at Officer Jenny.
"To be fair, I haven't seen one without a log." Officer Jenny said, sympathetically. "But you do realize that Timburr have the ability to make new logs right?" She said as Keats, Druddigon, Shellder and Stunky looked at one another before Timburr and Pineco looked up.
"...Rotom... That true?" Keats asked as him and his Pokémon looked up at the floating phone.
"Well... Technically zzzzpeaking, Timburr have the ability to get new logs but typically they are attached to the ones they carry at all times." Rotom said as Keats' eye twitched at Rotom.
"This was a ton of money to get this many printed!" Keats shouted as he approached the phone Pokémon and showed it all the flyers he had in his hands with Officer Jenny proceeding to drive away on her motorcycle. "And you! Could you make more logs this whole time?!" He asked towards his Fighting type Pokémon.
"Timburr-timtim." Timburr said as he looked at Keats.
"Translation?" Keats said towards Rotom.
"He doesn't want to make a new log. That log was zzzzpecial to him." Rotom translated.
"Oh yeah? Why? You use it as a baseball bat and hit a home run once?" Keats questioned with his arms folded.
"Timburr... Timburr-timtim-burr." Timburr said as Pineco looked at Timburr with wide eyes.
"...Timburr says it wazzzz the log that he had when you caught him and the log that was used to beat Lopunny..." Rotom said as Keats looked at the phone before making a concerned expression on his face as he shifted his gaze to Timburr.
"...Oh..." Keats muttered, unsure how to respond. "...That... Wasn't what I was expecting..." He thought as Druddigon, Stunky and Shellder looked at Keats as Rotom floated over.
"Remember what I said about "bonding," zzzzt?" Rotom whispered. "Sometimes it's not just a matter of common ground, it's the events that happen between you both that make the trainer and the Pokémon." The phone Pokémon said to Keats as he turned to look at Pineco, the Bug type looking for him to make a call.
"...Hmmmmm..." Keats thought, mentally mumbling as he tried to think before turning to Druddigon, Stunky and Shellder. "Okay, no more flyers. We need a "Plan B."' He said as he grabbed the flyers out of Druddigon' claws, Stunky's mouth and off of Shellder's tongue. "We need to find where that specific log went. Whatever we were doing before wasn't as important. Everyone got that?" Keats said as he walked over to a nearby public garbage can and threw away the papers.
"Timburr!" Timburr said with a less depressed atittude.
"Pineco!" Pineco said, also showing signs of determination.
"Druddigon." Druddigon said with a nod.
"Stunky!" Stunky said, also nodding.
"Shellder!" Shellder said, joining in with her tongue raised high.
"They all want to help look." Rotom said, translating.
"Great." Keats said as he scratched at his beard and begun to look around. "This is super important right now, I literally can't do anything else until this is handled." He thought, possibly forgetting what he came to the region for. "Alright, think back, think back." Keats said to himself.
"We were on the beach when you recalled everyone, zzzzt." Rotom said as Keats nodded.
"And we walked down the beach to find Pyukumuku, that was around an hour ago." Keats said as he tried to remember. "Everyone was back inside their Pokéballs, so it was just you and me." He continued as he pointed at Rotom.
"Correct, zzzzt." Rotom said. "But I didn't see the log after we went towards the water." The phone Pokémon continued.
"We looked around the sand where I plopped my butt and didn't find a thing. Looked near the water to see if one of those weird sea Pokémon did it to mess with me and found nothing. And it's not like it got swallowed by some weird sand monster, right? Hehe." Keats said with a chuckle.
"Should I tell him that there is a Pokémon that's a Ground type that looks like sand that's native to Alola?" Rotom thought with a raised digitized eyebrow on its screen. "Well, maybe there'zzzz some logic there? A Pokémon could have taken it." The phone Pokémon said as Keats pulled out the balls for his Pokémon.
"I'll call you guys back out when we get some idea where to look, okay?" Keats said as his Pokémon nodded as they went inside their individual balls and proceeded to turn the corner walking down the streets of Hau'oli City. "Alright, let's get a move- huh?" He said as he stopped walking to look forward, witnessing an unusual sight with Rotom.
"What'zzzz going on?" Rotom questioned as the duo looked on.
An entire four way intersect was blocked, causing a massive traffic jam as Keats and Rotom looked on, confused. In the center of the intersection, blocking several cars from moving and with several people looking on, was a large red and yellow tortoise-like Pokémon with several large black spikes on its shell that was laying on its chest in the middle of the road and its eyes closed.
"The hell kind of roadblock is this?" Keats said.
"Let me look at the Dex, zzzzt." Rotom said as it scanned the creature in the middle of the intersection. '"Turtonator, the Blast Turtle Pokémon, a Fire and Dragon type. Because Turtonator lives on volcanoes, feeding on sulfur and other materials found near volcanic craters, its shell has a layer of explosive material. Its shell on its back is chemically unstable and can explode if struck."' The phone Pokémon said, reading the PokéDex for the Fire and Dragon type.
"It's got a landmine for a backside?" Keats said with wide eyes. "I mean... I have a living hand grenade already in my possession but that's pretty cool too?" He thought as he looked at the big turtle-like Pokémon before noticing a familiar female cop.
"People! Remain calm!" Officer Jenny said as she approached the Turtonator. "If you can just be patient, we'll try and get this Turtonator out of the road so you can go about your day in peace." She said loudly to try and calm the slowly forming crowd and the honking horns of the drivers at the intersection.
"What do you think she's gonna do?" Keats questioned towards Rotom.
"My guezzzzzzzz is that she's going to wake it." Rotom stated.
"But isn't that thing a massive bomb if they touch it?" Keats said.
"How are we going to move this Pokémon? If I send out my Gumshoos, it's going to rampage and might injure civilians." Officer Jenny thought with her hand on her cheek, trying to formulate a plan of removing the Turtonator.
"Oh, I have an idea." Keats said towards Rotom.
"Doezzzz the plan involve using Stunky's farts to make the Turtonator wake up and run away from the stench?" Rotom said with an exasperated tone in its voice and expression on its screen.
"...When did you become a mind reader?" Keats said with surprise.
"Excuse me!" An unknown male voice exclaimed.
Approaching from one of the small crowds was a young man in his mid-twenties sporting green hair that was parted completely to one side and wearing a pair of black pants and boots along with a brown vest that had an image of a Mantine on the back with no shirt underneath and piercings in his nose, ears and mouth. In his hands was a small rod-like objects with holes in it and a Pokéball-like end.
"I just so happen to be walking by and happen to notice this Turtonator here." The pierced man said.
"You might want to stay back sir." Officer Jenny said as she put her hand up to give the man some space.
"Oh, actually I wish to help with this situation." The pierced man said with a smile as he lifted up the object in his hand.
"Huh?" Keats thought as he looked at the man talking to Officer Jenny in front of the sleeping Turtonator. "Hey!" He said with a smile forming on his face as he walked over.
"Wait a minute, Keatzzzz!" Rotom said as it followed behind Keats.
"I can move this behemoth out of the way with no hassle with just one play of- whoa!" The pierced man said as he pulled up the object in his hands until Keats walked up and grabbed it out of his palms.
"A PokéFlute!" Keats said with an ecstatic tone. "Oh my god, I haven't seen one of these in years!" He said as he looked over the instrument.
"Hey!" The pierced man said loudly as he and Officer Jenny looked at him.
"Keatzzzz, get out of the road!" Rotom said as the phone Pokémon floated over.
"Look Rotom, a PokéFlute!" Keats said as he ignored the pierced man's slowly agitated expression and Officer Jenny's confusion to show Rotom the flute. "When I was eleven, there was a massive Snorlax in the way of this road in Kanto and some dude came along with this flute and then boom, there was this awesome fight between the thing and-" He reminisced until the pierced man walked over and snatched back his PokéFlute.
"Do you mind?!" The pierced man exclaimed, incensed. "This idiot is getting in the way!" He thought.
"Yo where'd you get that?" Keats questioned.
"It's a custom-made flute. I can play on it and wake up Pokémon like this Turtonator and it won't rampage." The pierced man said with an angered look on his face. "I just need to play it so now, if you can excuse me..." He said as he was about ready to play.
"Man, that's cool." Keats said as Rotom looked at him.
"Yes, I know, now if you would please stand back-" The pierced man said as he was about to hold the flute up to his mouth until Keats spoke up.
"I gotta get one of those bad boys. Can't play a flute but I do know how to play a bass guitar and a harmonica." Keats said as he crossed his arms and smirked, the pierced man growing more and more impatient.
"You can play inzzzzztrumentzzzz?" Rotom asked towards Keats.
"...Maybe after I am done, I'll show you to a music shop." The pierced man said as he turned back towards Keats with a twitch in his left eye before turning away to face the sleeping Turtonator once again. "Annoying idiot..." He thought with a headshake.
"The dude who fought the Snorlax he woke with one of those and whipped out this Hypno to battle it. I never really cared for watching battles but the dude had his Hypno do a "Mega Kick" and I thought to myself, "man, I really want to throw a dropkick before I die." But I'm a bit too large to be able to pull one off." Keats said as he turned to Rotom, the sound of him talking causing him to interrupt the pierced man from playing his flute once again.
"Oh for the love of- will you shut up!? Are you screwing with me?!" The pierced man said with rage in his voice as he approached Keats, getting in his face.
"Take it easy, man. I was just-" Keats said until the pierced man spoke up again.
"No, you're messing with me with your constant talking! You obnoxious piece of dung!" The pierced man shouted as he pointed at Keats.
'Hey! Who you calling "dung?!"' Keats exclaimed, angry over the name calling.
"Enough!" Officer Jenny said as she got in the middle of the two arguing men. "If you both keep shouting, it's going to wake the Turtonator!" She said as the crowd of people on the streets and the people in their cars looked on.
"Like that?" Keats said as he pointed at the Turtonator as the pierced man and Officer Jenny turned around to look.
"Turto." The Turtonator said as it stood up before looking at the trio of humans in front of it.
"Oh no, this Pokémon is going to rampage!" Officer Jenny thought as she reached behind her to pull out a Pokéball.
"Tuuuuuurto." The Turtonator yawned before looking at the pierced man, who locked eyes with the Fire and Dragon type before it walked away from everyone, heading towards the direction of the mountains outside of Hau'oli City.
"It's... Leaving?" Officer Jenny said as the crowds of people on the streets breathed sighs of relief.
"Well, that'zzzz good." Rotom said. "Thank goodness! I thought Keats was going to make this far worse." The phone Pokémon thought with worry.
"Alright everyone! Move it along!" Officer Jenny said towards the people as she left Keats and the pierced man alone.
"Glad that all worked out." Keats said with a smile as the pierced man turned to look at the husky framed trainer.
"Yeah... Real glad..." The pierced man said with an angered look on his face.
"Oh, what's your name? Said you were gonna show me a music shop?" Keats asked as the pierced man made a face of bewilderment and frustration.
"Go pound some sand, you moron!" The pierced man said loudly as he started to walk away. "Calm down Bevin, calm down... I'll just go somewhere else. I can't let some dumbass get in the way of meeting my quota." He thought to himself.
"Hey!" Keats said, trying to get the pierced man's attention before Rotom got in the way.
"Keatzzzz, let's go." Rotom said.
"But-" Keats said as he pointed at the pierced man.
"The log, zzzzt." Rotom said, reminding Keats of sometihng more important.
"...Ohhhhh... Right." Keats said, realizing he got distracted again. "If Timburr was out of his Pokéball right now, he'd be mad..." He thought, embarrassed as he turned away back towards the Hau'oli City beach. "Alright, let's think, how do we find Timburr's log? We already retraced our steps back on the beach." Keats asked as he walked with Rotom floating next to him.
"Hmmm... Not zzzzure..." Rotom said, similarly unable to figure out where to look.
"...Why don't we try the Pokémon Center?" Keats said with a shrug as Rotom looked at him.
"Worth a zzzzhot." Rotom said as Keats and the phone Pokémon went to where the Hau'oli Pokémon Center was.

"A squared log?" Nurse Joy questioned.
"Yes." Keats said bluntly.
"I'm sorry but I haven't seen anyone with a squared log of any sort." Nurse Joy said with an apologetic tone.
"Damn it!" Keats thought as he raised and dropped his arms in annoyance.
"Cooomfeeeyy" An unknown Pokémon said as Keats looked to Nurse Joy's side.
Next to her was a small, light green floating Pokémon with several flowers of various colors surrounding it with an orange face with oval, light green eyes. A thin blue thread attached to the back of its head ran through the bottoms of each other flowers with the last one held in its tiny hands.
"Oh, pardon me. Comfey needs my help with something." Nurse Joy said with a bow as she walked away as Keats shook his head.
"Great... Just great." Keats said as Rotom popped out of his pocket.
"I'm going to zzzzcan that Comf-" Rotom said until Keats grabbed the floating phone.
"I don't care!" Keats exclaimed as he walked over to a nearby empty booth in the Pokémon Center, sitting down in it and placing his bags on the table. "I'm out of ideas..." He said as Rotom got out of his hand.
"We have to think of zzzzomething." Rotom said, unsure of how to proceed as well.
"I have no-... Clue." Keats said until he looked up to notice television monitors hanging from the ceiling.
"You got zzzzomething?" Rotom asked as Keats got up out of the booth and walked over to the television.
"Didn't know this place had TV's!" Keats said with a smile on his face as he looked around for buttons to change the channel, which was currently set to a local Alolan news channel.
"...Scatterbrain..." Rotom thought as Keats found the buttons for the monitor.
"Ah-ha!" Keats exclaimed. "Let's see here." He said as he pressed the button to go up. "Wonder if we can get one of the channels I like." Keats continued.
"Is now the time to be watching programzzzz?" Rotom questioned.
"It will be if I can find something watchable." Keats said as he looked at the monitor, continuing to channel flip. "Oh, the "Sceptile Standup Comedy" hour." He said as he saw a man and a Sceptile on a stage telling jokes.
"What, zzzzt?" Rotom said with a confused expression on its screen.
"It's an hour-long show where all the comedians are performers with Sceptiles. They try to tell jokes and their Sceptiles are up there with them." Keats explained. "It's on its first season but it's on one of those channels where they never have the show get renewed so unless it starts getting popular, expect the axe." He said as he flipped to a different channel.
'"Weeknights at eight o'clock."' Rotom thought as it scanned the internet for the show name to get information on it.
'"Can You Beat an Oranguru in Chess?" No. "Strange Homes of the Pokémon Regions." Nah- oh! Here's something worth watching!" Keats said as he stopped flipping channels.
"What, zzzzt?" Rotom said.
'"Goldenrod Murder Mystery!"' Keats said as he walked back to the booth, sat down next to Rotom and watched the screen.
"What izzzz it?" Rotom said.
"Oh, it's great. It's a half-hour episodic where this dude named Columbi has a Psychic type Pokémon and he doesn't know how to use technology very well and they solve crime cases together as private eyes." Keats said as he sat back against the seat of the booth, reaching into one of his bags and pulling out a bag of chocolate chips. "Oh, I've seen this episode before." He said as he took a handful and started to eat the chocolate chips.
"...Uh-huh... zzzzt." Rotom said, uninterested. "Is now the time to be watching fictional crime shows?" The phone Pokémon thought.
"The first guy they caught was the killer all along, but he kept tricking people into thinking he didn't do it, but Columbi's Kadabra came through for him in the end. Found the weapon hidden in a storm drain, wrapped in a Focus Sash. Mmmm, phenomenal episode." Keats said as he munched on chocolate chips.
"...Wait..." Rotom thought as an idea begun to form. "Hey, Keatzzzz." The phone Pokémon said, trying to get his attention.
"Whafth?" Keats replied with mouth full of chocolate.
"How doezzzz Columbi solve most of his mysteries?" Rotom questioned.
"Oh, you want to borrow one of my DVD's of the earlier seasons?" Keats replied as Rotom shook its face on the screen.
"No, juzzzzt answer my question." Rotom said as Keats put down his bag of chocolate chips.
"Columbi basically has his Kadabra use its natural "mind energy" or whatever and can basically find murder weapons. After that, it's on him to solve the case by putting "two and two" together." Keats said. "Now the later seasons when they gave him a sidekick with a Natu got really weird and I felt like they were pandering to a younger audience-" He said until Rotom spoke up over him.
"Hold on! That'zzzz it!" Rotom exclaimed loudly as other trainers in the Pokémon Center turned to look at the phone Pokémon and Keats.
"Huh?" Keats muttered.
"Keatzzzz, I think we found out how to find Timburr's log and Imani Snagem!" Rotom said loudly.
"Will you calm down? You'd wake the dead with how loud you're being." Keats said with a relatively stern tone.
"Okay Keatzzzz, think." Rotom said as Keats raised an eyebrow as the phone Pokémon turned towards the TV. "Columbi has a Kadabra that allows him to solve crimes. Why is Kadabra zzzzpecial?" The phone Pokémon continued as Keats' eyes wandered as he was trying to form a thought.
"...Ohhhhh..." Keats said as he thinks he's starting to understand what Rotom meant. "I get what you're saying." He said with a smirk on his face. "We need to buy spoons!" Keats said with a smile on his face as Rotom's face contorted on its screen and shifted into one of annoyance.
"No, zzzzt!" Rotom screamed.
"Uh!" Keats muttered, taken aback by Rotom's sudden reaction.
"Okay... Okay... Keatzzzz. Think hard..." Rotom said as digitized furrowed brows started to form on its screen.
"Alright... Just... Give me a minute." Keats said as he got out the booth and stood in front of the table.
Placing his hands on his face and bending forward, Keats attempted to form a thought that might have matched Rotom's way of thinking. After several minutes, random children and young adult trainers passed by as they saw Keats' strange behavior.
"Psy-psychic! Psychic types! Psychic type Pokémon!" Keats exclaimed as he stood up quickly.
"Yezzzz! And we need one becauzzzze?" Rotom said as it tried to help Keats.
"...It can... It can find the stuff we're looking for! Using its powers!" Keats said as he pointed at the phone Pokémon.
"Yezzzz! You did it!" Rotom exclaimed happily.
"Haha! I did it!" Keats shouted as he raised his arms in the air. "...Wait... I don't have a Psychic type." He said as he realized he didn't have a Psychic type.
"Right... Which means we need to get zzzzearching." Rotom said as it turned away. "We're going to need to head out of the city, probably on the way to Route 2 and the locations along the path." The phone Pokémon thought as it turned back around. "Keatzzzz, our best bet is to- huh?" Rotom said until it realized Keats wasn't around anymore.
Looking around, Rotom searched for Keats until finally noticing him at the front desk of the Pokémon Center, talking to Nurse Joy.
"Hi, do you have any abandoned Psychic types that were left behind by jerkwads and ungrateful kids?" Keats asked with a smile and confidant attitude.
"Huh?" Nurse Joy responded with confusion.
"Keatzzzz?!" Rotom shouted in annoyance.
