Jae Kyung sunk into the couch. "It's a terrible idea with dire consequences."
"You are freaking out for no reason," said Woo Bin.
"Don't undermine the seriousness of the situation. Friends could be torn apart. Relationships could be broken."
Woo Bin was no stranger to pushback. Still. This was a tad bit more dramatic than he expected.
"Don't believe me? Let me tell you about what happened the last time I attempted something this dangerous." With one look at him, she continued, "I was five and kind of stupid. It was my first day of kindergarten. And I was busy playing Eyes-Spy with my friend Sang Min Ji when the new kid entered." She curled her feet up on the sofa. "Chu Min Ho was his name. And the moment his and Min Ji's eyes met, I could tell there was undeniable chemistry between them. As her friend, I considered it my duty to play Cupid's assistant."
"You were a mature five-year-old."
"I was awesome, even back then."
He returned her smile.
"So, I mixed some glue and paint together. Then invited both of them to finger-paint. I was hoping that their hands would get stuck, and that would help them bond." She raised both her hands in the air. "But it backfired!"
"The glue was too strong?"
She nodded. "We couldn't unstick their fingers. Until Kim Hae Won, the villain of my tale, ended the crisis with her miracle soap. This marked the beginning of her never-ending love story with Hae Won." She leaned against the armrest. "Worst of all, Min Ji never spoke to me again. You know, since I brought the paint."
Woo Bin looked at her with understanding. Theirs was a hard life. Most people didn't appreciate the nobility of their intentions or the ingenuity of their plans. He had several such bad experiences of his own.
"It won't be like that this time. Trust me. I have known Yi Jeong a long time. He's never brought a girl to the studio before. And he most certainly has never taught anyone pottery."
"What does she look like?"
"So hot that she makes me cry. But she's my bro's girl."
Woo Bin would never hit on his bro's girl. That was unthinkable.
"I don't know Woo Bin…"
"They have undeniable chemistry."
To prove his point, Woo Bin showed her a picture of the couple leaving Yi Jeong's studio.
Her face lit up. "They would have such gorgeous children. You're right. We've got to risk it. We owe it to hotness."
He nodded. They needed more beautiful children in this world. After all, who would his future children flirt with?
"First things first, we need to gather more information," Jae Kyung suggested.
Buzzz, his phone went off.
He opened the notification. "Apparently, Shinwa is organizing a ski trip."
A look of mild disgust crossed her face. It only lasted for a second, but it was unmistakable.
"What happened?"
"I'm not a fan of Shinwa."
Woo Bin raised an eyebrow. He was surprised—mildly insulted, but mostly surprised. Shinwa was the dream. It was a privilege to study there. Someone hating the place was unheard of.
"I know that Shinwa doesn't have many haters, but I just find the idea of an institution for the rich and the privileged sort of… pompous. Plus, I would hate going to a school or university ruled by a particular group."
"I won't say the F4 rule the place."
"Right."
"Sure, we enjoy certain privileges. But it's not like we are tyrants."
She had an amused glint in her eyes. Perhaps she found his attempt to defend Shinwa's honor hilarious.

Sitting on the bench, Yi Jeong scrutinized Ga Eul's latest pot. It was oddly shaped and a little coarse, but impressive for a beginner. She was a good student: diligent, focused, and punctual. They had had seven pottery classes so far, and until now, she had never been late.
Just when he was convinced she wasn't coming, the doorknob turned. She greeted him like usual, but the warmth was missing from her smile.
Time didn't improve her mood. She remained oddly quiet.
Yi Jeong shifted closer. "I noticed that two numbers on your list were blank."
"Those items are personal."
A smile crept on her face but it didn't last. Not one second later, she was back to being gloomy. Yi Jeong wasn't used to her looking so down. She was always so warm and positive.
He tapped his hand against the table. Her expression wasn't the only problem; she was having trouble molding. Her fingers trembled, and the smallest distractions affected her concentration. Distorting her piece, she hit the table in frustration.
"Ga Eul. What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I'm fine."
If he didn't know any better, he would think she was related to Woo Bin. They were both unreasonably stubborn. Looks like he'd have to use the same tactic he used with his bro.
"Was it something at work? At your house? With a friend? Is it about a boy?"
Her expression changed after hearing his last guess. With a concerned look on his face, he waited for her to elaborate.
But she didn't.
He took a deep breath. This was never easy. "I have had my own share of relationship problems. Never had a serious girlfriend, save for the one I had in high school." He laughed. "And that was one heck of a messy relationship."
He stared at the ground, hoping to hide the pain that flashed across his face. Shifting closer, Ga Eul gently pressed his hand. He unclenched his fingers. The shadow of the memory slowly creeping away…
"I broke up with my boyfriend today."
"You broke it off?"
This seemed like the only plausible explanation. He couldn't think of any reason why a guy would let her go. She was not only nice but also beautiful—maybe even as beautiful as he was.
"Yes." She brushed her hair back and securely tucked it behind her ears. "Turns out he already had a girlfriend."
Yi Jeong's mouth hung open in shock. He knew guys did this. There were some assholes he knew personally who did this. To several women. Yet he never expected this to happen to a friend.
"He gave me the usual cheater's speech. Their relationship was on the verge of falling apart. He was planning to break it off for a long time." She smirked. "That wasn't all. He had the audacity to tell me that his lies were a testament to how deep his feelings were for me and that the first time he saw me"—a look of embarrassment crossed her face—"he was completely smitten and just couldn't resist."
"I'm sorry."
"How could I be so stupid? I usually see through these things." She hid her face in her hands.
It took five minutes before she was collected enough to look at him. She bit her lower lip, her eyes welling up with tears. A wave of panic spread through him. He had to do something. Anything. Taking a step forward, he placed his arms around her. For a second, she hesitated before resting her head on the crook of his shoulder.
Yi Jeong felt way out of his depth. He hadn't dealt with a crying girl in a long time. He didn't know how to do this.
Inspiration struck. "I know what would cheer you up," he said.
Dragging her out of his studio, he led her towards his car.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll know when we get there."

"I don't know, Yi Jeong. This cost more than my rent. My annual rent."
"Nonsense, your parents own their house. You don't pay rent."
"Their yearly mortgage, then."
He pushed her towards the changing room. "Come on. It looks lovely. Try it on."
In an effort to cheer her up, he drove to a posh boutique that was the favorite of many Shinwa women. He leaned against the wall. New clothes always lighten the mood. Besides, Makeover was on her list.
She stepped out of the changing room. "What do you think?"
Dressed in a royal blue dress that ended right above her knee, she looked magnificent. It tugged at all the right places, accentuating her curves.
"You look… stunning."
She blushed. "Thank You. But this is still too expensive."
This became the pattern. Yi Jeong would pick out an outfit, and Ga Eul would declare it ridiculously expensive and put it back. After the twentieth attempt, he accepted the truth: They were never going to pick out a dress in this store.
"How about we try another place? You pick this time," said Yi Jeong.
The duo ended up at a far less expensive mall. The kind he never imagined entering, much less shopping at. He browsed through some shirts, a small smile on his face. Even though the place looked a little shabby, the clothes weren't half bad.
And Ga Eul looked so much more excited in this place.
Like a little child in the candy store, she would pick out dress after dress and then head to the changing room to try them on. Later, Yi Jeong would be called upon to judge. There was this one dress he was particularly fond of. It was a long purple gown with a bow attached to the waist. The silhouette made her look slender yet elegant—the perfect combination of sexy and classy. It would drive Woo Bin crazy.
"We are all done."
Her usual glistening smile was back. This was more like the woman he knew: optimistic and cheerful.
"We are not even close to done. Buying a dress does not a makeover make. Next step: beauty salon."
With that said, he took her to the salon of her choice. He sat patiently in a chair while the women waited on Ga Eul. One curled her hair while another worked on her makeup.
This was his first time accompanying a girl to a salon. When he came to think of it, he had done a lot of things for the first time today. This seemed to be a norm with Ga Eul.
After what seemed like an hour, Ga Eul's makeover was finished. He studied her. The mascara emphasized her long, curly eyelashes, while the blush underscored her cheekbones. But the best of all was her hair, which was curled into loose face-framing curls. She looked spectacular.
With a smile on her lips, she strolled towards him. "This completes two items on my list: Makeover and Sharing an uncomfortable secret."

Yi Jeong sat in the F4 lounge, fully satisfied. Today was a long and eventful day. For both him and Ga Eul. Until today, he never thought he would discuss his ex-girlfriend with someone. Thankfully, Ga Eul hadn't pressed for details. He wasn't at the point where he could tell her, or anyone else, for that matter, why that relationship crumbled. But perhaps, someday, he might get there...

"What do you mean it's unthinkable?" Woo Bin crossed his arms.
"It goes against the rules, Master Song," said the principal.
Woo Bin was sick of arguing with this unreasonable man. He was behaving as if Woo Bin had asked for his daughter's hand in marriage, as opposed to a simple bending of the rules.
