A/N: Wow... I'm honestly surprised not many saw Blademon's twist coming. I'm happy it did, though! I thought I made it too obvious. But now... Why is he like this? Got any theories? I'd like to hear them. One reviewer already has one. (Muchisimas gracias por dejar tu review, compadre hispanohablante!) So let's see the rest of you.
Weeks flew by after the defeat of the Digimon Emperor, and so did the month of August. Now the Digidestined were settling back on their routine, a few days after the beginning of this new semester.
Although... Due to certain events that took place in the last month, they were all having various degrees of problems.
"And thus, the kingdom was saved, but there was no joy in the land, for peace came at the cost of their ruler," Cody read out loud in his literature class. His English almost perfect as he pronounced every word without missing a bit. "In his attempt to rally his men, the king mistakenly stood on the wrong side of the cannon. And the people's joy turned to shock as..." He was interrupted by an unwilling yawn escaping from his mouth. He blushed and ducked his head at the looks he received and finished in a more meekly tone. "... As he sailed overhead..." He sat down, with his eyes looking at the desk.
"Well... Thank you, Iori," His teacher said, though she looked disappointed in that yawn he let out. "As you can see, English literature can be more flowery than the spoken language. Now some rules at for writing are the following..."
Cody sighed as he still felt a bit of shame for that yawn. He couldn't help it, these past few days had been tiring for him and no doubt for his friends too... Except Killua, and maybe Kari.
Sniffling could be heard beneath his desk. "Cody each time, damnit! That story makes me cry each time! Poor king!" Upamon said as tears almost escaped his eyes. The yellow ball hiding on the space beneath the desk where the boy kept his books.
Cody put a book on top of his partner's head and made shushing motion with his hand. Due to still being in summer season, despite coming back to classes, the kids younger than him were still using the computer room, so he had to bring Upamon with him to keep him as a secret. Either that or left him on the roof with Killua, but He doubts his leader will have the patience to look after three In-Trainings on such a hot place.
He looked at the clock and almost let out a sigh; he'd still have to wait another hour to meet with the others. He stiffled back a yawn... He wondered how the others were doing.
Yolei was going to die. She just knew it!
Her body fought to stand, even after weeks, she still felt the soreness on her poor aching muscles. Why did she ask for it again?! Oh why?!
"And then..." She said fighting back a yawn. "You add this... Liquid, to the liquid on the glassy... Thingy... And wait for three minutes..." She explained to her assigned group on the chemistry class.
Poromon floated outside of the window, watching his partner with a worried expression. He knew that Yolei was taking their new activities the hardest due to her... Less than stellar physical abilities. And this could affect her on a daily basis.
For example? The class she was currently in. "That doesn't look good..." Poromon said as he saw the bubbling liquid on the glass.
The yellow liquid started liberating a black smoke as it started to reach its boiling point. Everyone in the class looking panicked at it. "HIT THE DECK!" Someone yelled as everyone ran away from it.
However, Yolei was staring to dooze off and she get the warning too late. When she opened her eyes, it was only to see her little experiment exploding and filling the area with a black smoke.
When it cleared, Yolei's front was completely black. Her glasses tainted black, just like her teeth. She puffed a cloud of smoke, like she was a charcoal train, and looked a the window to give Poromon a reassuring smile. "I'm okaaaaay..." She slurred.
Poromon almost forgot how to flap as he saw her state... He wondered how the others were doing.
Classical music filled the gym, and amongst the group of girls dancing at the town as part of the class was Kari, who danced around with a smile of pure bliss of her face. It was relaxing that after so many mentally taxing classes like math and history she could finally have something relaxing and fun for her. Not to mention easy, compared to the training a certain Hunter puts her through.
On the gym's rafters, Demiveemon, Gatomon and Patamon watched the spectacle. "She looks graceful when she dances like that!" Gatomon said with a smirk. "Maybe I should try dancing myself," She says starting to sway at the sound of the music.
"Can I join you?" Patamon asked with an excited grin, as he also looked down at the fun class.
"Sure," The Champion grinned back.
The two started swaying together back and forth at the music, chuckling as they did so. From below, Demiveemon looked a bit jealous, his chubby little legs not fit to join the fun... Not to mention Davis has been a bit too energetic about helping him in his new exercises.
The whistle was blown and the class was over. The girls all moved to the side as the door opened and a group of boys entered, all wearing white shorts, but some had white shirts and others wore red. They divided in two teams, and casually T.K and Davis were on opposite sides. T.K on red and Davis on white.
The teacher blew the whistle and the game of basketball started. The ball was launched at the center and T.K was fast to obtain it. As the game proceeded, T.K moved skillfully around the field. Someone emerged in front of him to block him, none other than Davis.
At seeing him, Demiveemon perked up. "Oh! Go, Davith!" He cheered, waving his little arms around.
He lunged to try and steal the spheric from the blonde, but T.K maneuvered around him and continued on his way towards the ring. With a masterful throw, the ball entered the ring. And since it was from the three point zone, that throw just gave the team an amazing edge over the other.
"Go, T.K!" Patamon cheered, while Demiveemon sulked at Davis getting so easily played.
As T.K got congratulated by his teammates, Davis glared at the back of his head as he sulked down. If this was football he would have T.P beaten! Worst part? The words coming from someone watching in the sidelines.
"Nice shot, T.K!" Kari cheered, as the other girls clapped for the others.
This was getting ridiculous! Davis fumed as he recalled the past few weeks; first sparky, and now T.S, when was he going to get his time to shine in front of her?!
"No more, time to bring out my A-game!" He decided and turned back to the game.
As the match started again, Davis was quick to snatch the ball from the air and make his way through the field while dribbling the ball. This was going too perfectly for him, no T.K in sight, and a perfect shot to the ring! Nothing can't stop him now!
"Go! Davis thew it!" Demiveemon cheered, having the upmost faith that his partner couldn't be stopped by anything.
... Except for a slip on his step that caused him to face-plant against the floor.
Gatomon and Patamon couldn't help but burst out laughing at the boy's misfortune. Demiveemon pouted and glared at them, to little effect due to his cuteness. "What are ya laughing about!?"
One of T.K's teammates got the spheric and threw it on the white team's ring. gaining an even greater advantage. And unfortunately for Davis and his team, the time for PA was over and they had to leave the gym.
Davis groaned and lifted his head. He looked to the sidelines to see the reactions of this massive slip up. Good news? Kari didn't saw him face-plant on the floor. Bad news? She didn't look at him, at all, she was busy chatting with her friends.
... On second thought, there was no good news.
"Hey," T.K appeared and offered him a hand. "You okay, man?"
Davis bristled. Off all the people- "I'm fine!" He snapped and sat up. "Tis but a scratch," He said dusting himself off, and looking at the side to avoid looking at the blonde.
"If you say so..." T.K said carefully. As always, Davis seemed to snap at every little thing either him or Killua say. It was staring to really confuse the blonde.
"Watch out!" A voice called out.
The warning came too late and a ball hit Davis square in the face. T.K winced in sympathy and looked at the boy as the ball left his face with an ugly shade of red.
Davis' eyes twitched and he finally let out a defeated sigh. Today was not his day, what a way to start school... He wondered how the others were doing.
Killua sighed for the uptenth time. He was practicing with Conjuring his yo-yos to be able to use them in battle, and resist the incredible drain it would mean for him in the future. Basically, a training of both stamina and improving his Conjuration techniques.
However, he was growing tired and the day was a scorcher. He dissipated the yo-yos and let his Nen rest, before walking to a place with shade.
Advantages of basically being an alien with no identity in this world? At the top of his head, Killua could say that he didn't had to attend school like the others. He went, but that was only so he could go to the Digital World with the others, not to see classes. And by what the others told him, he was lucky to not hear an adult babbling about themes he probably already knew.
Disadvantages? Well... He couldn't call the attention, he had to stay hidden, and so he had to stay on a rooftop because a bunch of kids were busy occupying his usual resting spot — The computer room — So he had to stay here and wait, with nothing more than a few books the others led him for this situation.
Ah, and not to forget that his only family member that he actually cared about was back on his own world. Alone, hungry, with cold!
He shook his head to avoid the dark thoughts. 'She's okay. They're both okay. They called Gon, or any of my other emergency contacts so they could take care of them,' He reassured himself. And yes, Gon, Leorio and other people he met during his travels with Gon were his emergency contacts... Except Bisky, lord knows that old hag will only try to corrupt his pure little sister into something like her.
He sighed and walked to the edge of the roof, looking down at the courtyard from beyond the fence. His mind drifting to the weeks of August before classes forced his teammates to call them back to the school. After the Digimon Emperor's defeat his friends all came with a certain... Request that he had no other choice but to accept at the moment. Mostly to entertain them, and to not have the need of keeping up with constant nagging.
He ran a hand through his hair as he thought about the events about that certain event. The ramifications of what that would lead to. Should he keep his promise? He didn't expected anyone else to ask for it after Kari, and yet here he is. With apparently four new... Pupils.
And for uptenth and one time that day, Killua sighed. 'I wonder how the others are doing right now...' He thought.
Three days after the defeat of the Digimon Emperor, the young Digidestined all suprised the Kamiyas by arriving at their doorstep. After greetings were exchanged, the group gathered on Kari's room. All of them sitting on their knees and looking at a confused Killua.
"Okay guys... I thought we were going to take it easy through this days, to recover from the whole ordeal," Killua said, raising an eyebrow at the four.
"W-well... We didn't actually planned for this, honestly," T.K admitted, looking at the other three guesses.
None of them expected the others to come. They sort of meet up on the entrance of the building, and turns out, all of them had the same idea.
Killua continued to give them a questioning look. "But you still wanted something right?" He asked.
"Yeah, we do..." T.K said, taking a deep breath.
And all at once, they made their petition.
"WE WOULD LIKE TO BE NEN USERS!" They asked at once.
Both Killua and Kari blinked, with the girl mechanically turning to see the white haired boy, who had a baffled expression on his face. "E-eh?"
"Dude, we wanna be Nen users," Davis said. "And you are the only one who knows how to become one. So, c'mon, give us a hand."
Kari looked at her friends and couldn't help but ask. "W-what brought this on?"
"Kari, c'mon, don't tell us you don't want to be one too!" Yolei said, pumping her fist, and Kari hid a guilty wince at the fact that she was already taking lessons. "Killua can create lightnings and The Emperor could do... What could he do again?"
"Deconstruct and reconstruct things," Killua said, taking a deep breath. "And why now? And not before?" He asked, genuinely confused.
"... Look, man. During the whole debacle on the base, you went and fought Ken and V-Mon turned into Magnamon to beat that Kimeramon," Davis explained. "And I just stayed behind, watching everything. I don't wanna do that anymore, I want to be in the frontlines helping."
"Me too," T.K said. "When I wanted to confront Ken for using the data of Devimon for his monster, you stopped me and reminded me that I couldn't do much against him as he was. I don't want that to happen again."
"It is unfair that you have to deal with all the enemies," Cody said. "If The Emperor could learn Nen, somehow, then we can too. That way we can be of more use and not let the Digimon and you do all the job."
"That, and it would be really cool to have superpowers!" Yolei exclaimed.
Kari looked worriedly at Killua. Remembering how it took a lot of convincing from her part to convince the Hunter to train her.
The former assassin crossed his arms and crossed his arms, he looked subtlety at Kari for a moment and then back at the Digidestined. The child of light proved to be really adept on learning how to fight. Looking at the four in front of them... Only the boys could learn at the same pace as her, all of them practicing something — Football, Basketball, Kendo. And Yolei... No offense to the girl, but she was even worse than Kari from before they started.
"Listen," Killua said. "Meet us at night in the Digital World, make sure no one notices when you go... And bring a ball."
Kari's jaw dropped at the quick acceptance of the boy. She had to beg him to convince him in training her, and they haven't even started in Nen yet!
"Eh? Why a ball?" Davis questioned. "And what kind of ball?"
"A football, a basketball. One of medium size. And think of it as the first part of the training," Killua explained. "And make sure to be well rested.
Everyone nodded and with nothing else to discuss for the moment. They all left the residence — saving themselves from mushroom cookies from Yuuko — leaving behind their two teammates.
Once alone, Kari turned to Killua with a raised eyebrow and the start of a pout. Killua snorted. "What?"
"You accepted too quickly to train them, while I asked for almost a whole day!" She said, crossing her arms and looking at the side.
Killua couldn't help but chuckle at her. "Well, for one I wanted to skip that part all together. If they're half as stubborn as you, then they'll nag me until I say yes."
"I didn't nagged," She blushed.
"Yeah, sure," He rolled his eyes. "And second... Ken."
Kari tensed at the name and looked at him. "What about him? We defeated him."
"Yes, that's true," Killua said. "But he learned how to use Nen from something, or someone else. And he still has his Digivice, while it's highly improbable he could strike again."
Killua always had half a mind to go to the Ichijouji household and steal the Digivice from the boy. But honestly? After the display Ken showed after his defeat, he doubts the Emperor would appear again.
"And we still have to keep going to the Digital World to find a way back for me," Killua said. "And if they want to know how to defend themselves, I'll help. But they'll take the same teat as you. And back to how Ken learned Nen, call me paranoid but... Maybe there is a third party involved... Not to mention that Blademon ia still on the loose."
Kari nodded as she listened to her leader's logic. While also hiding the small grimace at the reminder that he would have to leave at some point. She looked back at him. "Can I help? I'm already advanced in my training."
Killua smirked. "Sure."
He leaped over the fence and landed on the edge of the window that lead the computer room, after the bell rang he knew it was time to meet with the others. He looked up and waited until the kids occupying the room were gone to enter, all the while his mind drifting to the test.
Unlike Kari's ball test, the others' took just one week instead of two. They were more and Killua wanted to take advantage of the vacations they had during August.
He smirked as he remembered the reactions everyone had, when thet discovered Kari was already training with him. Davis' jaw almost reached the floor, while the others eyes widened to incredible levels.
Just as he thought, the boys were all more fit when trying to get the ball from him, with Yolei really struggling to get it from him. All the while, Kari continued with her usual training, hitting the cushioned trunks he prepared for her before the mission on Little Edo.
During the first three days, they all attacked blindly. But on the fourth they all started to attack together, and craft plans. But like Kari... They weren't even close, but showed determination just like her. So he took them under his training regimen, to make sure they were combat ready. Even though he knows it will take more time than just a month to make them apt to combat.
When the professor of the children finally left, Killua opened the window and snuck into the room. "Welp, back to the show."
He was ready to sat down, when the door opened again and he immediately ducked behind a shelf to hide. However a voice made him come out. "Killua, are you here? It's us," Kari's voice called.
Sighing in relief the boy came out. "Yup! Right here," He said, placing his hands on his pockets.
The moment he appeared, he gained a heated glare from Davis before the now goggle-less boy huffed and crossed his arms. Killua merely quirked and eyebrow and rolled his eyes. Having given up on trying to figure out what's going on on Davis' head a while ago.
Unbeknownst to him, thoughts of jealousy raged through Davis' mind. 'And the icing of my cake of bad luck; dealing with sparky. As if T.L wasn't enough!' He grumbled, remembering the reveal at the start of their test.
Davis entered the Digital World in a flash of light, his whole body shivering as he appeared on a chilly and humid jungle of all places. Sparky couldn't choose somewhere nicer, could he? Worst of all, he was wearing his PA uniform, per the white haired guy's instructions.
"No one seems to be around..." He didn't even brought Demiveemon, didn't wanted to wake up the little guy. Though he did explained where he was going. "Maybe I'm the first to arrive!"
He jogged forward to the meeting spot marked on his D-Terminal, and as he did he couldn't help but feel a bit excited. He was going to get the same superpowers as the albino! And maybe stronger ones too... And then he could save Kari from some new villain and impress her enough to gain her heart.
'This is going to be awesome~' He sang in his head as he reached the clearing.
His eyes widened when he saw everyone there. Sparky was spinning a basketball on his hands as he sat patiently on a trunk, with the others standing around too. "Oh, you're here," He said, stopping the ball. "Then we can start."
"Sure, what are we going to do now?" T.K asked, wearing the same white uniform as the others.
"You four... Are going to try and take this ball from me," He said, bouncing the ball against the floor. "Do it and then I'll train you, fail to do so and I won't do jack-shit."
"Eh?! And why not!?" Yolei screeched, already paling at the concept of not having the same abilities as Ken and Killua.
"Nen is complicated to learn," Killua said. "And this coming from someone who already advanced enough to use it on real combat, and with a Hatsu. So if you guys aren't fit to grab the ball from me in the timeframe of a week, then you aren't cut to learn Nen," He explained with a hard tone. Making the kids flinch at the seriousness of his tone. "Not to mention you'll have to learn how to fight too, properly and not just throw punches randomly."
Kari hid an eye roll directed at him. Knowing the truth behind the test.
"Um, wait," Cody said, shaking off the nervousness of Killua's explanation. "You said 'you four' what about Kari?"
"She won't do this test, because she already aced it," He explained, much to everyone's surprise. "She did it almost two months ago, after we freed Leomon. Ever since then I've been teaching her how to fight."
"HUH?!" Was the common response, with Davis being the loudest.
Kari clasped her hands together and bowed. "Sorry, we didn't meant to keep it a secret! It just... Never came up before."
"Honestly if you guys had asked before, we would have told you sooner. Of course, I would have told you the moment I've unlocked Kari's Nen, which I haven't done yet," He assured.
Cody, T.K and Yolei exchanged looks before nodding. "I guess it's not a big deal," T.K said with a shrug.
"She just asked before us," Cody reasoned. While it was a secret — something he didn't particularly liked, it wasn't something bad or awful, and had they asked they would have told the truth.
Yolei pumped her fists. "Ha! If one person can pass the test, then four can!"
Davis for his part felt a vein pulsing on his forehead. Sparky and Kari have been spending all this time together?! At night?! Alone?! 'Sparky! You are going down!' He declared.
"Okay, test-" He was interrupted when Davis lunged at him to try and take the ball. Killua sidestepped and he face-planted. "Start."
Davis only groaned on the floor, before lifting his head and growling.
To say Davis' has been motivated after that would be like saying Kimeramon was a bit scary. He attacked Killua like he was possessed. All of that amounting to nothing in the end, but at the least they all passed the test. But only because Killua wanted so, not because they actually got the ball.
"Sorry, we're late!" Yolei said as she entered the room with Cody.
"'Bout time you arrived!" Davis snapped, his bad mood getting worst and worst at the time.
The other occupants of the room eyed him nervously. "Yolei, you better open the gate and fast, mister cranky pants here seems ready to explode," Killua said, fighting back a sigh at Davis' attitude.
"Shove it, sparky!" Davis snarked, huffing and crossing his arms.
Yolei held her hands up. "Okay, okay. Chill out, I'll do it," She said, walking to the computer and pointing her red D-3 to the screen. "Digiport Open! Let's go, Digidestined!"
The group materialized in File Island, near the place where Santa Geria was located. Without the Emperor to worry about, the Digidestined had a new mission to focus on: Reparations.
Yolei streched her arms with a wide smile, and let her muscles pop. "Aaah, nothing like being in the Digital World without having to worry about crazy overlords!" She said.
"Just to remind you, we aren't here as tourists," Killua said, causing the girl to deflate and pout. "According to Agumon and the others, there are five areas around here in the need of some help." After the defeat of the Emperor, it was deemed safe for Agumon and the others to go back, so they could check on the state of the world after Ken's defeat.
"Let's see..." T.K mumbled, getting his D-Terminal out and showing a map of the zone. "There's a lake, the seashore, the town, the farms, and the mountainside. All of them with Digimon working hard to reconstruct their homes after Ken's doings."
"There's only five, and there's six of us," Cody said. "So two of us will go to the same zone?" He asked.
"I guess," Yolei mumbled. "I call dibs on the seashore by the way! Sounds easier there!"
"They are pulling out boats that drifted to the ocean," Killua explained. "Which means you'll have to pull with them."
"... Can I take it ba-"
"No takebacks," Everyone deadpanned quickly.
"Dang it," The girl muttered as a dark cloud formed around her head, and her body slumped down.
T.K looked down at the map. "Well I was thinking of going to the mountainside, from what I got they're also starting to plant trees around, to reforest the area."
In Armadillomon's head, a lightbulb went on. "In Santa Geria there must be a lot of people working... Which means food! Calling dibs on that one, let's go Cody!" He said, taking off before his partner could say anything.
"Hey! Wait!" The short boy ran after his partner, and unwillingly taking up the task on the city.
"Very well..." Yolei said, sweatdropping at the boy's misfortune. "That leaves the lake and the farms."
"Dibs on the farms!" The last three voices said.
Kari, Killua and Davis blinked and looked at each other. "Okay there is only one way to solve this," Killua said, raising a hand. "Rock, paper, scissors. The first one to lose goes to the lake."
"Sounds good," Kari nodded in agreement.
"Whatever," Davis shrugged and lifted his hand.
"Rock. Paper. Scissors!" Two papers and one rock.
Davis glared at his hand, as if contemplating cutting it off after losing. Not only did he lost the place where he wanted to work, but now Kari and sparky were going to be working together! "Err... Two out of three?"
"We don't have the time for that, let's get going," Killua said, and everyone started making their ways to their respective working zones.
Davis now stood alone on the clearing. His right eye twitching as he felt a vein pulsing on his forehead. "This... Isn't my day, at all."
On the different zones everyone worked as expected. T.K and Patamon worked on tandem with various Gotsumon on the mountains to plant more wildlife in it. T.K fertilized and planted the bushes, while Patamon fed the plants with water.
On the seashore, Yolei regretted her life decisions as both her and Hawkmon were forced to pull boats out of the ocean with a rope. FlyBeemon was too big, and it was decided to keep the Armor Evolutions on hold for this kind of jobs. Something she voted against, mind you.
Cody helped on making curry along with the RedVeggiemon that lived on Santa Geria, to help and feed the working Gazimon that moved around with materials of construction. Sadly, for Armadillomon, those who don't work won't get lunch. And with him being a quadrupled, he had to carry materials on his back.
The yellow Digimon collapsed with a stack of wood sticks on his back. "Too much work, not enough lunch," He complained.
And, just to add another pile on Davis' bad streak of luck, on the lake the Digimon were working to create a dam to keep the water on its place, and since Davis was the tallest around he had to do much of the heavy lifting.
He kept grumbling to himself as he walked carrying a giant plank of wood alongside V-Mon and some RedVeggiemon. Numemon were also there, but only to observe since they're limbs were too small to do anything. "Move aside, Numemon! Don't get on the way!"
Offended by those words, the Numemon left behind their... Usual gifts on the construction site. Much to everyone's disgust and chagrin.
And finally on the farms of rice, things were going quite smoothly for everyone working there. With Killua's strength being able to lift many buckets of water the Geckomon farmers could use, not to take credit from Kari and Gatomon who were working separately. With Kari able to lift her own buckets thanks to the training she's been having.
She sighed as she put the latest bucket she pulled up to the side. "There," She said to the Geckomon who picked the bucket and carried them to the fields.
As she wiped a few drops of sweat from her forehead, a bottle of water was extended to her. "Here," Killua offered. "I think we can take a break for the moment."
"Thank you," She took the bottle gratefully and started drinking from it.
"Hey guys!" The group of the farm turned to see T.K and Patamon running across the wood bridge to join them.
"T.K?" Killua muttered as he saw him coming. "What are you doing here?"
"He says he has something to say!" Patamon said. "Something that's been bothering, he says."
The blonde stopped beforr the two. Taking a moment to catch his breath, while Patamon perched himself on his head. Kari eyed him with curiousity. "What is it?"
"I-It's... Oof. It's the fact that we can still come back to the Digital World," He explained. "I've been thinking for a while now and... If we're only called when we're needed, then what would that mean?"
"That we are needed to help fix the damage left by Ken?" Gatomon responded, raising an eyebrow. "I think it's quite obvious."
"We aren't needed for that, Agumon and the others could do the same, or the Digimon themselves could do it," Killua said, crossing his arms with a frown. "I can see where T.K is coming from. I've been having the same worry ever since we beat Ken. There's still so much things without an answer around us. Where did the Digi-eggs came from? Where's Gennai and why he hasn't contacted us? Why did Ken had a Crest? How did he learn how to use Nen? And... Where did Blademon go after telling Mystimon about Kimeramon."
As they heard the questions, both Kari and T.K couldn't help but share their leader frown. During their first adventure their goals were more clearer. First was to find a way home, then to travel to Server and find the Crests, then protect Kari from Myotismon, and finally, defeat the Dark Masters. Now, after finishing off the latest threat to the Digital World, they're still needed around.
"You think..." Kari started, gulping nervously. "It might have to do with those... things?"
Killua's frown deepening, remembering the events on that weird beach. And the creatures that inhabit it. That was another question, how did Ken got there? And how did he turn those... Things into Scubamon?
"Too many questions, and no answers," He grumbled, passing a hand through his hair. "If we're all needed here, then there's must be a reason... A bad one, sadly."
"A new enemy..." T.K frowned. "We have to tell the others."
"Davis is the closest," Kari told the boys. "He's down the lake, let's go tell him."
Both boys nodded and Killua turned to the Geckomon. "You guys, we'll be back in a minute!" He received nods and sounds of understanding.
The trio make their way down to the lake, while trying to set the idea of their hypothesis straight in their head. It was possible that someone, or something, was still threatening the Digital World even after Ken's defeat —That without counting the possibility of Ken himself making a big comeback to be the Emperor again — and taking in consideration their track record, this possible new enemy could be even more powerful than Ken and Kimeramon.
By the time they reached the lake, they could only look around in confusion. "Where's everybody?" Kari asked, seeing the shore completely empty.
Patamon flapped up and started looking around. To no avail. "I don't see anybody... Could they be taking a break?"
"Then why don't stay on their spot?" Killua asked, an exasperated expression on his face. "Damnit, of all times, where did they go?"
The two partners in charge of the lake walked around the forest surrounding the mass of water. Davis had his head low and seemed in deep thought, while V-Mon just looked confused at his partner's sudden wish to take a walk.
"Hey, V-Mon?" He called his partner's attention. "Why do you think Kari seems to be so... Hmmm what's the word... Chummy? With T.K and Sparky?"
V-Mon blinked. "Ummm, because their friends? Are we chummy, Davith?" He asked in complete innocence.
"Maybe...?" The boy said tilting his head. "Back to the point! What I try to say it's that, for example, back in the basketball game she cheered only for T.K, like I wasn't even there! And she asked for Killua to train her and didn't say anything, or you know... Invite me along so we could do it together. What I'm trying to say is... What do they have that I not? I'm a good athlete like T.K, and I'm going to get superpowers once I train with sparky! So what am I missing!?"
"How can she likes them more than you?" V-Mon tilted his head. "Isn't she your friend too?"
"She is, and that's the point! I wanna be more than friends!" He explained, waving his arms around.
"... Like... Best friends?" V-Mon guessed.
"More," Davis said. He looked down at his partner. "Have you not wanted to impress some cute, lady Digimon like... I dunno... Gatomon? Or Mimi's Or Sora's partners."
"I don't spoke with Palmon and Piyomon often," V-Mon said. "And I've never thought of impressing Gatomon more than I do with Hawkmon, Armadillomon or Patamon."
"Nevermind," Davis sighed. Obviously his partner didn't understood what he was talking about. He crouched and grabbed his hands. "Anyways, I need your help."
"Mine?"
"Yup! Remember on Metal City when Patamon evolved without a Digi-egg?" He asked, receiving a nod. "I want you to do the same!"
"Wha-" V-Mon blinked.
"Yeah, think about it!" Davis said. "You, a strong giant Digimon! Me, the partner of a strong giant Digimon! When Kari sees me with someone as cool as you, he'll be impressed! Aaaaand, I'll have a cool partner, and sparky won't. And I can still kick T.K's ass in soccer. Three birds, one stone!"
V-Mon raised an eyebrow, not quite sure he understood Davis' logic, specially since he already turned into a powerful Digimon when he became Magnamon, but in the end he shrugged. Hey, Davis was his partner, he was going to help him. "Okay. Let's try it!"
Davis grinned and hugged the blue dino. "Thanks buddy, you're the best!" He yelled. "Now... How do we trigger it?"
"I dunno," V-Mon said. "T.K and Patamon sort of... Did it. Maybe if we're in a fight of something."
"Oh yeah, you're right... Then we'll need a villain to fight!" He yelled again.
V-Mon tilted his head. He didn't get why Davis was yelling so much. He tensed when he heard branches snapping, and then proceeded to gap as a fish when he saw a giant monster with the shape of a bear, with eyes on its mouth!
"Oh man, a monster!" Davis said and hid behind V-Mon. "Go, do it! Evolve!"
"U-umm... V-Mon Digivolves to..." He started to spin around to try and get himself to evolve, remembering a similar sensation when he evolved from Demiveemon to V-Mon on Fuji Tv. "... I'm getting dizzy!" He exclaimed and collapsed on Davis' arms.
The 'monster' sweatdropped. "Is he okay?"
"Yeah..." Davis sighed.
"Can we take this off? It's hot in here!" A different voice came from the monster, complaining.
"Yeah sure," Davis shrugged. "Thanks fellas."
The 'monster' turned out to be the RedVeggiemon and Numemon from the lake. V-Mon blinked at the reveal. "What the-"
"We still get lunch, right?!" A Numemon asked.
"Sure, go ahead," Davis said, disappointed that his plot to help his partner evolve didn't worked out.
V-Mon straightened himself and glared at his partner. "What was that!?"
"I thought that, maybe, with an enemy it will be easier for you to evolve," Davis explained. "Obviously, I was wrong... What a scam."
"Scam?! You scared me, ya jerk!" V-Mon growled and karate chopped a bamboo tree. "C'mon here!" He said, charging at his partner.
"Yikes!" Davis turned and ran away. "V-Mon, come on! Chill out!"
Davis maneuvered around the trees to avoid himself stamping himself against one. Okay, his plan to make his partner evolve has failed, and now V-Mon is mad, but he could turn this around! He has faith that his partner will be able to evolve!
He reached the end of the forest and found a bridge leading to another part of the forest, and at seeing it, Davis got another idea. He ran to the bridge and grabbed the rope holding it. 'Now that he is angry, I'll just have to put myself in danger and that will make him evolve! I am a genius!' He thought, watching V-Mon charging at him with a murderous look.
He snapped the rope holding the bridge and the wooden structure start wobbling. V-Mon forgot of his rage and gasped, looking forward to check on his partner. "Davith!" He said in worry and launched himself at him.
The other rope on the other side broke too and the pieces of wood below them started to break apart. The bridge snapped in half, something that Davis didn't saw coming in this plan, and the half where the two partners were ended up dangling on the cliff.
V-Mon was grasping Davis' legs so he wouldn't fall on the river below. The boy himself was struggling to hang to the rope, a hard task with V-Mon's body mass added to his own. "V-Mon, now would be a good time to evolve! ... And start a diet!"
"V-Mon Digivolves to- Hey!" V-Mon interrupted himself due to Davis' comment on his weight. This also caused him to lose focus and make the two plump to the river below. "AHHH!"
"WAAAAH!"
Soaked and tired, both partners laid on the rocky shore of the river. "So, all a ploy?"
"Yeah... I wanted to see if by putting myself in danger you could have evolved," Davis explained, ashamed of himself realizing how stupid his ideas were.
"... Sorry they didn't worked, Davith," V-Mon apologized. Feeling bad about his apparent inability to get to the Champion level.
"No, I'm sorry V-Mon, I shouldn't have put you through this," Davis said with a sigh, while getting up. "Let's go back to the others."
"M'kay," V-Mon mumbled, getting back up.
They were interrupted by a tremor and they turned to see a rockslide occuring on the mountain in front of them, at the other side of the river. "Ah, crap!" Davis swore as he took off running. "V-Mon, come on!"
V-Mon gave a skeptical look. "Is this another ploy?"
"NO! RUN, DAMNIT!" Davis yelled as he grabbed his partner's arm, just in time as a big rock was about to land on him.
A bigger rock crashed on the ground behind them and started rolling after them, like in an action movie. They both ran with all of their remaining strength to avoid themselves from getting rolled over.
They almost screeched to a halt when they saw a big Digimon taking a leak at the side of the river. Pumping strength on their legs they leaped over the puddle of urine. The Digimon looked at them before turning to the incoming rock. He growled and accidentally stepped on the puddle he made, as he put himself on the rock's way. He slammed the incoming boulder with his head and sent it flying over his spiked shell.
The partners watched everything. "W-who's this Digimon?" Davis askes.
"Tortomon... They're usually shy Digimon," V-Mon said.
The Digimon turned to glare at them. A red blush on his face as he roares and stomped in place.
"What now?! Don't tell me he is mad because we saw him taking a leak!" Davis said in disbelief.
"I told you, they're shy Digimon!" V-Mon reminded. Then he eyed Davia suspiciously. "Is this another ploy?"
"DOES IT LOOK LIKE I PLANNED THIS?!" Davis said grabbing his arm. "RUN!"
Tortomon roared and gave chase to the two unwilling peepers.
"They're doing what?!" Killua asked as he looked at the RedVeggiemon and Numemon that pretended to be a monster.
"The Champion form..." T.K muttered. "The concept is good, the execution... Not so much."
Kari facepalmed. "What are those two thinking..." She said, sounding disappointed that Davis would do something like that.
"HEEEEELP!" The group turned to see Davis and V-Mon running towards them with panicked looks.
They stopped to catch their breath and the others looked at them questionably. "What happened now?" Killua asked.
"Saw... Digimon... Leak... Turtle... Big!" Davis panted.
"Tortomon... Taking... Shy... Mad..." V-Mon added to the panting.
Killua put two and two together. "You guys saw a Digimon, a Tortomon if I heard right, taking a leak... And it's so shy it got mad about it?" He guessed.
He received frantic nods from the two.
Killua blinked and then his lips began to tremble and then... "PFFFFFAHAHAHAHAHA!" He laughed like a maniac at the misfortune of the two, leaning against the trunks used for the constructions. "S-s-s-seriously!? What the hell?! PFAHAHAHA!"
"Of all the things to be running away from," T.K said, clearly amused, but not as much as their leader.
Kari put her hands on her hips and gave a glare that could rival any mother's. "What were you guys thinking? Watching someone on such a private moment!"
"It's not like we wanted too!" They both defend themselves.
At that moment, Tortomon emerged from the trees and glared at the duo. Who in turn screames in fright and resumed their escape from the wrath of the wild Digimon. The rest of the group ducked behind the wood, except for Killua who was still in hysterics.
When the coast was clear they all emerged again. "While I'll admit that no one likes to be seen while doing something like that, I think that Digimon is taking it pretty far."
"Should we go and help?" Kari asked, looking worriedly in their direction.
Killua was slowly regaining his breath, his body still shaking with laughter. "Ahahaha... Oof... Give me a... Ahaha... A minute..." He took a deep breath and exhaled. "Okay... I'll make sure they don't get killed... Though I don't think that Digimon could actually hurt them."
He took off, though Kari couldn't help but notice that he was being a bit slower. 'He's not going to interfere at all,' She thought with a pout.
"Hi-yah!"
"Hi-yah!"
During their break, Cody decided to give the Gazimon on Santa Geria some basic Kendo lessons. In case they needed to defend himself, and so he could practice himself some basic stances.
"CODY! HELP!"
He turned around to see Davis and V-Mon running towards them. "Davis? V-Mon? What's wrong?" He asked, as the older boy got behind him.
"Big Digimon! Mad at us! Fight him with your sword!" Davis sputtered.
"Big Digimon?" Cody turned around and got on a stance with his makeshift shinai. "What is it? It can't be that ba-"
He was interrupted by a roar of the rampaging Tortomon, who continued to charge to the peeping duo.
The Gazimon immediately ran away, while Cody yelped. "Woah! W-while I'm flattered that you think highly of my Kendo abilities... I can't fight that thing!" He said throwing his stick away and hiding on some giant pipes with his Gazimon students.
Davis and V-Mon screamed again and resumed their escape. The tortoise chasing after them without a rest.
Cody peeked at the retreating back of the Digimon. "Should we help?" Cody asked. "I mean, it's not possessed and they did say they made him mad..."
Just at that moment, Killua walked pass them, with the biggest shit-eating grin they've seen on his face. "Hi, Cody!" He said without a care in the world.
Both partners could only blink at him in confusion. "I think Killua's got this... I remark the 'I think' part."
On the seashore, Yolei checked her D-Terminal with a raised eyebrow as she received a message from Cody. "What the-"
"HAWKMON! HELP!" V-Mon's voice called, causing the two to turn around to see the chasing in course.
"YOLEI! DO SOMETHING!" Davis pleaded.
"What are you guys doing!? Cody told me you made someone mad!" She said, waving her D-Terminal around.
"WASN'T OUR FAULT!"
"Well we don't have the time to play!" Hawkmon said, flapping up. "We just finished pulling out all the boats!"
"THIS ISN'T A GAME! DO SOMETHING, PLEAAAAASE!" The boy begged as he continued to run for dear life.
"Oh God, hit the deck!" Yolei said as she realized the persecution was coming their way. Both her and Hawkmon hid behind the boat they just pulled out.
Davis and V-Mon passed by it, with Tortomon hot on their heels. The big Digimon's stomps, causing water to splash on the couple hiding in the boat.
They peeked out to see what was happening, saltwater dripping from them. "Ugh, this wasn't my idea of a day in the beach."
A whistling Killua walked pass them, waving at the two as he did so. "Hey guys, how's it going?" He said and continued to slowly follow the rampaging Digimon and the two friends while whistling a merry tune.
The panting partners reached a dead end, when their chaser cornered them at the edge of a cliff. The two of them clung to each other as Tortomon glared at them, panting as well aftwr a long persecution.
"Well, old pal, seems like this is the end!" Davis whimpered, clinging to his partner.
"What now, Davith?" V-Mon asked.
Davis thought about it. He left his D-Terminal at the lake, so that wasn't an option. And at this point he doubted V-Mon could evolve into a Champion. That left one choice. "Tortomon, I have something to tell you," Davis said, taking a step forward, and sitting on his knees to bow.
"Oh God, Davith! Is it your last will?!" V-Mon asked in panic, following his partner in bowing.
"If you're going to end us for watching you pee... Can you at least wash your hands?" Davis asked.
"WHAT?!" V-Mon's eyes buldged out of his socket at his partner's petition.
Killua was on the forest behind Tortomon, ready to take action... Before Davis uttered those words and he fell into hysterics again.
Tortomon's jaw dropped as he just started at the boy in pure disbelief. He raised his hands and looked between them and the boy.
"Davith, what are you saying!?" V-Mon asked, completely boggled by his partner's words.
"Hey, if I'm dying! I'm dying to someone with clean hand!" Davis snapped.
Tortomon roared and stomped the floor, causing the two to split to avoid getting crushed. V-Mon turned around and decided to fight back. "V-headbutt!"
It was in vain however, as Tortomon merely flicked his tail and sent the small dino to the floor. "Augh!"
"V-Mon!" Davis called in worry. He gritted his teeth. This all happened because he wanted V-Mon to evolve. And now they were on a cliff, cornered by a Digimon just because they saw him pee of all things. He gripped his fists. This wasn't going to end lile this. In a desperate attempt he got his Digivice out and raised it at the Digimon to try to blind him. "Hey you! I'm the one who called you dirty! Pay me attention!" At that moment, something happened. Davis' Digivice started glowing.
Killua heard the stomp and decided that enough was enough. He sharpened his claws and got ready to enter the frey, until he saw the Digivice shining. "Could that be..."
V-Mon sat up as his body was surrounded by a blue glow. "This... Feels... AMAZING!"
"V-Mon Digivolves to... Exveemon!"
V-Mon's new form looked like a giant version of him, except that it was ripped with muscles, his horn was now as sharp and long as sword, he had an X mark on his abdomen, and the most important part: It had two white wings sprouting off his back.
Killua and Davis gaped at V-Mon's new form, before Davis started jumping in happiness. "YES! YES! YES! THAT'S MY PARTNER, DAMNIT!" He couldn't be more happier, after all the bad luck from that day he now has a partner with a champion form and wings. WINGS! Finally they could fly!
Exveemon charged at Tortomon, who pushed him back with a headbutt on the stomach. Exveemon landed on his back and Tortomon started stomping his stomach. In the middle of one of the stomps, Exveemon kicked Tortomon off him. The Digimon landed on his back, and EXVeemon grabbed his tail and started swinging him around.
He let go and sent Tortomon flying. The heavy Digimon landed on his stomach, but quickly recomposed himself. He glared at Exveemon and his back started glowing. From his carapace, rocks were shot towards the dragon. Exveemon started punching everyone of them at an amazing speed, not a single one harming him.
Tortomon charged at him and Exveemon responded in kind. Before they could clash however, Exveemon jumped over the Digimon, kicking him over the head in the process, and landed behind him. He turned around, crossing his arms over his chest, and from the mark of his chest, he released a powerful beam. "X-laser!"
The beam pushed Tortomon off the cliff. Sending him blasting towards the shore below them. Davis pumped his fist and leaped around the place. "ALRIGHT! MY PARTNER IS THE MOST BAD-ASS DIGIMON EVER!"
Killua watched the whole fight with a smirk and decided to return to T.K and Kari. 'They got it handled.'
The two partners peeked over the cliff to check on the Digimon. They saw Tortomon's shell spinning in place, before it stopped. The Digimons limbs popped put of it, including his head, then he lifted his leg and...
"COVER YOUR EYES!" Davis said and Exveemon complied, not wanting to relieve this nightmare.
The big Digimon laughed happily as he made his business and he walked to the water near the shore. He plucked his hands on the stream and brushed them together.
The partner's dared to look, only to gasp when they saw Tortomon smiling at them while waving his washed hands on the air, before leaving she scene while laughing. "Did he just listened to what I said... And he enjoyed this fight?"
"So it seems..." Exveemon muttered.
"Let's go back to the lake! I can't wait for everyone to see you!" Davis exclaimed, latching to his partner's leg.
"So they're okay?" Kari asked, looking at their leader, who had his hand folded behind his head.
"Yup, don't worry, they handled this like champs," He snorted at his unintentional joke. Everyone had gathered after finishing their tasks, waiting for Davis and V-Mon to
At that moment a shadow loomed over them and they looked up to see Exveemon with Davis' on his shoulders. "Hey there!"
"Davis! You're okay!" Kari greeted in relief. "You got me worried!"
Davis blushed. "R-really?!" He asked in excitement.
The girl nodded and her mind processed just on what he was sitting. "Is thay... V-Mon?!"
"Exveemon, actually," Exveemon introduced himself.
"Wow, good for you Davis!" She congratulated.
Davis was on cloud 9. After a day of bad luck, finally he was scoring points with Kark! Glory hallelujah!
"Yes, Davis, good for you," Killua said. "With Exveemon you can finish the other jobs right?"
And the illusion was gone. "Uh?"
"Well, Tortomon caused some damages here and there, and since you guys pissed him off..." Yolei trailed off.
Exveemon's jaw dropped and Davis fell from his shoulder. "You mean to tell me that I have to... After all that running... More work?!" He couldn't find the right words at the moment.
"Yup! Have fun buddy!" Killua said, with a cat-grin as he handed him the tools.
Davis let out a groan as he got up and walked away. There goes his scores.
"Davis! Do your best!" Kari cheered.
Forget it! Everything was good in the world! Huzzah!
