Chapter 2: New Adventure
A new day means a new adventure. It was a beautiful day on South Island, on Green Hill. It is a nostalgic spot. One of, if not, the favorite spot for our blue blur. That hero is Sonic the Hedgehog. He stands on the very top of the hill, taking in the wind and fresh air and puts on a smile.
"Ah. The fresh smell of Green Hill grass and water. Talk about nostalgia. No Eggman, no time travel, no Zeti jerks to deal with. Just gold ole fashion running and freedom." Sonic smiles at the fresh air of freedom.
Sonic closes his hands and makes fists. Sonic takes a step back before he starts running ahead and at the edge, he jumps off high in the air and rolls into a ball and aims towards the ground. Sonic safely lands on a knee and strikes a pose and smiles at the sun before he continues to dash forward. His arms are spread out, taking in the air. He sidesteps faster than the wind, passing by the animals smiling at their hero. The blue hedgehog jumps in the air at another edge and sees little birds flying his way as he smiles and gives them a thumbs up as he descends down.
"Hello, world! I love it here everyday!" Sonic shouted to the sky, causing a mild echo.
He continues to enjoy himself.
"Rolling around at the speed of sound! Got places to go, gotta follow my rainbow!" Sonic sang. "Just the way I like it! I hate seeing these little critters enslaved, but I love breaking all of Eggman's toys. I always wonder how he was always able to afford these things for so many years, even when he's not robbing a bank. He must be that poor if that's the case."
Sonic laughs at the times he has beaten the mad scientist for this entire time. To him, the things he hates most about Eggman besides recycling ideas for EggmanLand, are him never quitting and them being forced to team up against the Deadly Six after they turned traitor against Eggman, which Sonic accidentally caused.
As the hero is having such a good time, he hears some slight screaming and some minor quakes coming from a couple of blocks ahead.
"Whoa. What was that? Better check it out!" Sonic said before he zooms off.
Sonic uses his Sonic Boost to speed up ahead to see what is causing all of the ruckus. He jumps up, jumps off a wall, grabs a tree and swings from it and goes flying forward. He then sees some buzzbomber robots up ahead and smirks. He turns into a ball and uses a Homing Attack and homes in on the three robots and destroys them one by one. He stomps and lands on the ground, destroying a Motorbug and does a backflip kick, sending another to the ceiling of a mountain above him and destroys it as well. Sonic runs up to a bridge over a lot of water and jumps up and boosts his way past two Choppers; two fish-like robots and destroys them before coming across a couple of small stairs. The blue hedgehog performs some homing attacks and destroys two crabmeat robots and lands on the ground. Sonic continues dashing and makes his way to a tube, which he gladly spins into a ball and makes his way through. He sees dust coming up ahead and gets there within an instant.
Sonic screeches to a halt and sees a big robot. A 15 inch tall robot who has bulky-shaped like arms and legs and a body shaped like a giant egg. His hands are wrecking balls with checkered-patterns all over them. The robot is slamming the wrecking balls at the ground making craters and at the walls, cracking and breaking them down and smashing trees. This is scaring all the small animals away.
"Hey, Egghead!" Sonic waved.
The robot stops what it is doing and stares at Sonic in complete and strange silence.
"Yeah! I'm talking to you! You took your time to return, Egghead. If you're trying to find a place to throw a tantrum, you could just take it out on your rusty factories, just pick any that blows just like you do." Sonic mocked.
The robot continues to be silent and turns his entire body towards the hedgehog and its two eyes glow purple.
"You know, first off, purple isn't a good color for that kind of robot like that, same with the eyes, because it just doesn't suit you, Egghead. Just saying." He shrugged.
The big robot responds by throwing down one of its wrecking balls right on top of Sonic, who easily sidesteps the attack.
"Oh, my bad. I mean Eggface. Man, I wish your head was shaped like an egg, because you are Eggman of course. But you still have that fat body of yours"
The robot says nothing as he does a horizontal swing at Sonic, who jumps backwards, briefly does a handstand and jumps onto a floating platform.
"I'm sorry. Did I say Eggface? I forgot, your favorite nickname is Baldy McNosehair. Because of how fast you get angry. Gotta give credit to Yacker, though. It's catchy."
Sonic jumps off the platform easily and lands a spin attack on the robot's head, denting it. He then lands behind it and smirks at the damage he did.
"I see you're bringing those wrecking balls back from our very first fight. The best part is you couldn't even land a hit on me because it moves so slow and you ran away."
The robot turns around and does a diagonal swing at Sonic, who smiles and bends backwards while stepping sideways as the attack misses.
"Now that. That is good. But you're still too slow."
The robot continues to swing more at Sonic, smashing the ground, wall and trees. Sonic would have to end this quickly. Sonic jumps on another floating platform and stares at the robot. It sees the hedgehog and does a vertical swing down on him. Sonic jumps up and the robot destroys the platform instead, allowing Sonic to stomp on the retractive part of the arm, breaking it off. The robot briefly stares at its broken arm before it tries to do a swift horizontal swing, but Sonic starts dashing and slides under the ball, and boosts into the leg, breaking it off, and the robot is struggling to keep its balance. Sonic smiles greatly and jumps in the air and spins in place and launches a Homing Attack through the back of the robot and through the chest. Sonic lands safely the robot loses its power and footing and falls forward. Sonic rubs his hands together in victory.
"Ah, good times. Just like when we first fought each other. So Eggman. I gotta ask you. How's the mustache after half of it got eaten by a rabbit? Kinda ironic you have a mustache on a robot even if you still have half of it on your face."
The robot short circuits as it lays motionlessly and in silence. Sonic wonders why he is not saying anything. He approaches the robot and knocks on its head.
"Hello? Anybody home? Don't get salty on me, Eggman. Come out and play nice like a man."
The blue blur knocks on its head again and gives it a weak kick. Sonic's ears start twitching as he starts hearing some strange noise. Then red pixels starts flowing around randomly all around the robot as it starts glitching out and starts disappearing. Sonic steps back and scratches his quills.
"Okay? That was weird. Since when could robots teleport? It can't be Chaos Control. Only Shadow can use that without a Chaos Emerald. Doesn't even look like teleporting. Something is fishy and I'm already not liking it. Maybe Tails is in his workshop he lives in. He should hopefully understand."
Sonic speeds off away from the battlefield to see his best friend Tails. Tails may hopefully be able to understand what Sonic has just witnessed. But unknown to Sonic at the time, the entire battle was being witnessed by Eggman in his Egg Mobile and the Jackal Leader on an Extreme Gear hoverboard.
"Yes! The test was a complete success! Win or lose, it worked completely!" Eggman smiled.
Eggman gleefully smiles as he holds the Phantom Ruby in his hands.
"So that is the blue nuisance that you have told me about. Hmph. He sounds annoying. And his so-called love for freedom and beautifulness. It already sickens me." Jackal Leader gagged.
The entire Jackal Squad were told about Sonic and his friends and they all share Eggman's opinion on the hedgehog. They already know that they have a common enemy, being Sonic himself.
"Oh, you have no idea. He always gets what he wants and never lets me have any fun. Soon it will be our turn to see the world in our own image. But first, it's time for another test." Eggman tells him.
"What about the hedgehog? Surely he will be aware of your return, my new boss." The leader asked.
"Let him. So far, this Phantom Ruby seems to be quite powerful. The power levels are off the charts. At this rate, it could even outclass the Chaos Emeralds themselves. Speaking of emeralds." Eggman got an idea.
Eggman evilly smiles with the Jackal Leader looking at him out of sheer curiosity. Whatever it is, the Jackal Leader likes the plan already. He knows where they are heading next.
On the outskirts of the ocean, lies a floating island. An island hovering in the sky above the clouds. It is known as Angel Island. Home of the long lost Echidna tribe that was wiped out by a water monster named Chaos. Currently, the Master Emerald, the unifier and controller of the Chaos Emeralds, is being guarded by Knuckles the red Echidna, a close friend and friendly rival to Sonic. Gullible and short-sighted and quick to anger, but is brave, independent, strong-willed, tough as nails and protective of his friends despite being antisocial at times. He is known for his super strength, gliding and burrowing abilities.
Knuckles is now resting on his island watching over the island and the huge emerald. He remains calm after Sonic's latest adventure through the Lost Hex. He relaxes and thinks about all the treasure hunting and adventures he has had.
"Man. I miss doing all of the treasure hunting back in the good days. But this does not beat the peace and quiet on my island. Though it's been a while since I've been dragged into one of Sonic's adventures. I'm always saving his spiny blue butt. I wonder what he's up to?"
Knuckles wonders, but his thoughts are interrupted when he hears a voice calling out to him.
"Hey, Knuckles!"
Knuckles turns around and sees that it is none other than Silver the Hedgehog. A young hedgehog born 200 years in the future who is capable of time-travel. He also has psychokinesis powers and can move objects, fire psychic powers from his hands and can use it on himself and levitate and even fly. His powers are so powerful, he can stand up to even Shadow with his combat skills and use his powers to hold something twenty times his size. Silver is always traveling in time to fix the past and befriends Sonic and everyone else. He stands up for others who can't stand up for themselves. He is naive, but smart, has a strong sense of justice and is willing to do anything to protect his friends and his future. While slow-witted, he is smart and perceptive.
Silver comes flying in at Angel Island at full speed with a worried look on his face.
"Oh good! You're here! I need to talk to you!" Silver said as he landed.
"Silver?" Knuckles asked in confusion.
"Knuckles. We got trouble. Big trouble! It's Eggman!" Silver tells him.
"Why are you here? I thought you returned to your future after the whole Time monster thing that Eggman tried to use. I must be dreaming.: Knuckles claimed.
"What? No! I'm saying I came back here from the future because of Eggman! Like just an hour ago!" Silver said.
"Sorry! Can't hear! Too busy trying to wake up from this silly dream!" Knuckles shrugged him off.
Before Silver could explain any further, a bright light nearly engulfs the two. Within seconds, the light vanishes and the two open their eyes and see something that they couldn't believe.
"What the?!" The red echidna and silver hedgehog both said.
Knuckles and Silver notice that Angel Island is now completely different. An Echidna village is in its place. Not only that, but more Echidnas also appear, all alive and well, happy.
"Wait a minute. What happened to Angel Island? What is this place?" Silver looks down from the cliff from where they stood.
"This is Pachacamc's Village. He was the chief of the tribe for hundreds of years and had Tikal as his daughter. That was before he and the tribe passed on." Knuckles answered.
"Why are we here anyway? Wasn't this from the past?" Silver wondered.
That question is what causes the hotheaded echidna to grab the futuristic hedgehog by the chest.
"That's what I wanna know. What did you do?! Did you time travel us to the past?! Bring us back now!" Knuckles accused him.
"W-what? No! I didn't do this! I came back to YOUR time! I came to warn you that Eggman and–" Silver stammered into his sentence as something caught his eye.
He stumbles backwards.
"Warn me of what?" Knuckles asked.
"Look out! Behind you!" Silver pointed directly to where the Master Emerald is.
Silver points to the Master Emerald. Someone or something is coming out of the emerald itself. Knuckles turns around and smirks out of relief. It's a water creature named Chaos. A guardian of the Master Emerald before it was sealed. It was once an enemy of everyone after Chao companions were hurt or killed by the tribe and consumed to anger. It once allied with Eggman himself, but later betrayed him and was defeated by Super Sonic. After the battle, it was cleansed of its anger and became good once more.
"Ha! You make me laugh, Silver. That's just Chaos. He's a nice guy and a guardian of the Chao. He ain't gonna hurt us." Knuckles assured him.
As soon as Knuckles said that, Knuckles is backhanded by the water creature, but quickly recovers.
"Harmless, you say?" Silver mocked.
"Oh yeah. I forgot he can have a bad temper sometimes." Knuckles shakes off the pain.
"Just like you?
Knuckles growls at him in anger for the insult. Silver held his hands up in a gesture of surrender.
"I know how to put him in his place. Just watch." Knuckles cracks his fists.
Knuckles charges in at Chaos and they both swing at each other. Knuckles' punch overpowers Chaos' arm swing and tries to do a leap jump punch, but it fails to even hurt him, as the guardian goes through Chaos. Chaos then grabs Knuckles, throws him and fires a jet of water at Knuckles, pushing him backward. Knuckles lands on his chest.
"Here! I got this!" The futuristic hedgehog stepped in.
Chaos throws long stretchy punches at Silver, but he hovers in the air to avoid the attacks and uses his psychokinesis to hold Chaos in place in the air… until a small puddle uppercuts Silver and knocks him towards Knuckles.
"Well that was a new trick he learned. We're gonna need to take him down together, Silver." Knuckles said, helping him up.
"Just what I was thinking. You said you know how to beat him. How do we do that?" Silver asked.
"I need a clean shot at his brain. He's not stupid, but he knows good from the bad. Now!
Knuckles runs towards Chaos again. Chaos was about to do another long punch, but Silver uses his powers to hold both of his arms in place and Knuckles jumps up and pounds him right in the small, visible brain. Chaos is sent flying into the air. Knuckles smirks at the attack land, but another light engulfs them. After a moment, Knuckles and Silver open their eyes and see that the village and Chaos have both disappeared.
"What the heck? Where did he go? In fact, where did the entire village go?" Knuckles asked as they looked around.
"This has to be related to the disaster that is coming towards us soon!" Silver said.
"What do you mean?" Knuckles questioned.
"Something happens in this time that brings the entire world to ruins. The historical records are sparse make no sense. All I know is Eggman is the cause of all of it. That's why I came back here. To find out what happens and help save the world." Silver said.
"And you came to me for help. I wouldn't know anything below the surface until it's too late. So I'm guessing I play a big role in saving the world. So you want me to lead some sort of resistance?" Knuckles guessed.
"Well I don't know if that is necessary, but I hope it won't come to that. But I'm happy you decided to help! Thanks, Knuckles!
"Let's go! We should find Sonic and let him know!"
Knuckles jumps off the island starts gliding with Silver flying with his psychic powers right behind him. As they leave, they are being watched by Eggman.
"Test Number Two a success! The Phantom Ruby's power is unbelievable!" Eggman said, holding the Phantom Ruby in his hand.
"That red guy is such an idiot. Leaving behind such a valuable gem. He is as gullible as you said. It makes me laugh at these fools." The Jackel Leader chuckled.
"Precisely! You have no other idea how many times I tricked that Knucklehead. It is just too funny, especially when he's angry." Eggman said.
Eggman and the Jackal Leader both laugh.
"With this much power, I won't even need the Master Emerald. Oh ho ho ho ho! You better look out, Sonic! Because you will taste the power of the Phantom Ruby!"
Eggman and the Jackal Leader fly off and retreat to base, planning their next move while Knuckles and Silver head to find Sonic.
Note: Yup. Sonic is back and ready to start the adventure. Don't worry, I won't overuse Green Hill Zone like the actual game did. And the second scene is based off of one of the prequel comics focusing on Knuckles and Silver, the latter being my favorite character. The difference between dialogue being slightly altered and the Jackal Leader being there with Eggman.
