"Look at my Tribe, Moro. We grow big, and we grow stupid."
Okkoto, Princess Mononoke
~
The Infernape swung through the tree at top speeds, burning through trees and branches, breaking down any and all obstacles.
Looking around, the Infernape heard the charging behemoth rip trees from the ground. "I know you're here! I can smell you!" The Mamoswine roared, tearing up more trees from the ground.
Several Snovers run at the sound of the beast, eyes wide with terror. The Infernape stood tall, eyes searching for his hunter.
In another time, he would be finding his prey, the Mamoswine, but the beast, this demon had taken its place. The hunter had become the hunted.
Covering his mouth with both hands, Naruto sat still, barely breathing at the monster's presence. 'I-I ca-can't breath!' He thought shakily.
"I know where you are, boy." He heard the Mamoswine call.
Tears begin to run down his face as memories of Konoha and the villagers run through his head. The knifes. The torture. The screaming. The blood. HIS blood.
His hands went to his head as he curled into a ball, tears freely flowing, eyes wide with terror.
The Infernape watched the boy in sympathy. 'I need to find another human, quickly. Hopefully, Flint's in the same spot."
But he was snapped out of his thoughts when heavy breathing behind him.
"There you are." The Mamoswine muttered. "Now -"
The Mamoswine upruptly stopped when the Infernape faced him. "Enra? What are you doing?" The Mamoswine asked, shocked. Anger began to fill him. "Why do you defend that boy? Do you not remember what our trainer did to us?! DO YOU NOT REMEMBER MORO?! HOW SHE DIED FOR US?! YET YOU STILL DEFEND HIM AND HIS PROGENY!?"
The Infernape was confused at the Mamoswine's words before he hardened his heart. "Enra is my father's name. He died far me. I may not know what happened between you two, and I am saddened that whatever happened with your trainer left you like this,
"But you will not harm this boy! He is innocent of whatever sins his father may have done!"
The Mamoswine stood stock still, breathing in deeply, before exhaling, the Infernape remaining tall. "To stand tall in such adversity… You truly are Enra boy." The Mamoswine murmured fondly.
"Even then, it does not change the fact that the boy must die. The man has caused millions of pain beyond your imagination. All in the name of fun." The Mamoswine breathed in deeply before a deep, rumbling below ripped from his throat. "THAT MAN MUST DIE. HIS FAMILY NAME MUST DIE! IF I MUST FILL THIS WORLD WITH THE BLOOD A HUNDRED NAMIKAZE TO SAVES MILLIONS, I WILL DO SO GLADLY!"
Naruto sat still, the confrontation of the two powerful Pokèmon only happening a few meters away. He remained curled in a ball, beginning to sob at the roars of the Mamoswine. His mind throbbed, and his heart ached. How many times had he been tortured by the villagers?
How many times had Jiji told him I don't know, and now this Pokèmon told him what a monster he was? Had the Professor truly cared for him, or was it pity that made him take care of him?
He shouldn't bother such an important person like the professor to take care of him. He had so many things, and he's heard how much of a bother child is to take care of. From his caretaker from the other parents. Was he worth taking care of?
Without even knowing, Naruto stood up and walked to the two arguing Pokèmon, who stopped at his presence. He hadn't heard the words of the Infernape, but he could Gleam enough from the Mamoswine.
He unclipped two Pokèballs from his belt and gave them to the Infernape. "Please… go," Naruto sobbed out.
The Infernape forced the Pokèballs back into the kid's hand, scared at what he was doing. Had he understood something? Was the Mamoswine's Aura that overwhelming to the boy?
"No, please, take them, release them, I don't care! Just go! If I'm destined for bad things, then I'll go away! It's simple!" Naruto cried, tears running down his face.
The Infernape took the Pokèballs and backed down, saddened by this outcome. It wasn't worth defending those who didn't want to be defended.
'Just like dad,' the Infernape thought sadly.
~Flashback~
"Dad, please, you don't need to do this!" A montero cried.
A human-like hand rubbed Monferno's head roughly, which increased the tears of the Monferno. "It'll be fine, boy. Don't worry, everything will be fine," Enra told his son.
He was missing his left arm from the elbow down, as well as his right leg from the knee.
Flames are seen rising in the outside forest. "I'm a mere protector. I'm not its final defense," the Infernape said soothingly, "Look, if we can find each other again, I promise we'll play Air Ball, okay?"
The Monferno could only watch as his father charged out into the Eterna Forest Fire, possibly the most dangerous fire Sinnoh had ever seen.
They had found his body with three distinct holes: one threw his other knee, his other elbow, and right through his neck, all with a distinct sulfur smell.
~Flashback End~
'The day of banishment…' the Infernape thought self-depreciatingly. 'And meeting Flint.'
The Mamoswine felt the boy's intense fear vanish before him, much like how his father always was.
Moving the snow beneath him, he began to charge wildly at the boy, expecting him to move.
One gallop.
Two gallops.
Three.
Four.
The beast's blind eyes widened when he realized the boy wouldn't move, stopping right before him, the horns barely touching the boy's chest.
"Why do you not move, boy?" The Mamoswine growled. "Do you wish to really die?"
"Yo-you said that my dad was a bad person. I-... if I have that blood running through my veins." The boy cried, sobbing, tearing through him like a wave. "I don't want to do bad things! I wanna help people!" He wailed. "But if I'm only meant to do bad things…" The boy grabbed his tusks, trying his best to pull them into his chest. "Please…"
The Mamoswine remained silent as thoughts ran through his head. Then, he began chuckling. The chuckling grew louder and louder, turning into a laugh and eventually, a guffaw.
It explained everything. The boy hadn't known his father or mother. As sad as it was, he could only laugh at the painful reminder of Moro.
Naruto's Soul squeezed at the sound of the boar's laughter, as he began laughing himself. He didn't even know why, he just joined in.
The Infernape could only watch on in amazement and sadness as the boar and boy laughed. It was insane to do such a thing, but what could they do when they realize that they are both wrong? When they are in so much pain, they don't even register it anymore?
This was the scene Flint, Sycamore, and Candice walked in on, amazement and terror written across their faces.
~
Naruto and Sycamore sat next to each other, Kurama and Jolyne playing with one another in front of them. "Anything you… need to tell me?" Sycamore said tiredly. "It… must have been exhausting to face that Mamoswine with only an Infernape, even If it is Flint's Infernape."
"I'm-I'm fine. Just," Naruto sighed, feeling the emotional impact of today finally enter his mind. "Did you really want to adopt me? There are- there are far better options than me…"
"Yes, you were the one I wanted to adopt. Why wouldn't I adopt you otherwise?"
"Pity, maybe?" Naruto offered it as a half joke.
"Eh, maybe originally," Sycamore lamented. "But pity only made me look at you. It was everything else that made me choose you."
Naruto made a lop-sided smile. It helped that the man was being honest. "I am… a bother to you?" He asked quietly.
"When you prank me," Sycamore said, looking at the sky. "Otherwise, eh, it's a bother worth keeping. Now come on, we got-"
Both were stopped when the sound of booming footsteps made them jump in surprise, searching for the sound.
The duo's eyes widened at the sight of the Mamoswine, who sniffed deeply before seemingly staring at Naruto with blank, opaque eyes. "I know you can understand me, boy," The Mamoswine huffed. "I am Okkoto, your father's greatest mistake, and I hope, soon-to-be nightmare."
Naruto blinked at Okkoto's words. "What are you saying…"
The Mamoswine bowed its head, saying, "I wish for you to be my next trainer."
"Bu- but what if I turn out like my dad?" Naruto asked sadly.
"Then I'll take care of you myself," The Mamoswine answered coldly.
Flinching at the words, Naruto searched through his bag, trying to find the right Pokèball for this Pokèmon.
He lightly smiled as he pulled out a luxury ball, holding his hand out for Okkoto to press.
The boar inhaled, before nodding and lightly pressing the button with his horn.
'I hope you don't turn out like him,' Okkoto thought, 'For both our sakes.'
