Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 4 of Wings of the Fae. I want to thank those who have left reviews for this story. It truly does mean a lot to me that you guys enjoy this story. I've been working very hard on trying to make sure that this story blends out well by adding four extra characters, which is probably the most that I've added to a story. But writing about faes is something that I wanted to do for a while now and here it is coming to fruition. I am excited to show you guys what will happen next. Without further ado Chapter 4. ENJOY!

Chapter 4

Linetta handed Bilbo a mug of tea. "Here you go." She said softly.

Bilbo carefully took the mug from her dark hands and gave her a small smile of thanks. From what he had been told by Gandalf before this, she had easily picked him up and used her fae flight to bring him into the other room. He was rather thankful to her. He took a breath warming his hands on the mug. "I'll be alright, let me just sit quietly for a moment."

Gandalf let out a breath shaking his head not liking how Bilbo had become so cornered in his hobbit hole and not wanting to see adventure. Even with the fae here, it didn't pique his interest in wanting to go out and see the world. "You've been sitting quietly for far too long. Tell me; when did doilies and your mother's dishes become so important to you? I remember a young Hobbit who always was running off in search of elves and the woods, who'd stay out late, and come home after dark, trailing mud and twigs and fireflies. A young Hobbit who would have liked nothing better than to find out what was beyond the borders of the Shire. The world is not in your books and maps; it's out there."

Bilbo shook his head lightly, not liking the idea of what Gandalf was trying to tell him. That was years ago when he was like that. "I can't just go running off into the blue. I am a Baggins, of Bag End."

"You are also a Took. Did you know that your great-great-great-great-uncle, Bullroarer Took, was so large he could ride a real horse?"

"Yes," Bilbo said, letting out a breath and watching Linetta pour a cup of tea for herself, warming her hands on the pottery. A small smile came to his lips seeing how this fae was trying her best to be respectful about him.

"Well, he could. In the Battle of GreenFields, he charged the goblin ranks. He swung his club so hard it knocked the Goblin King's head clean off, and it sailed a hundred yards through the air and went down a rabbit hole. And thus the battle was won, and the game of golf was invented at the same time."

Bilbo turned his attention to Gandalf shaking his head. "I do believe you made that up." He said as his lips quirked a little bit trying not to smile at the story Gandalf had told.

"Well, all good stories deserve embellishment. You'll have a tale or two to tell of your own when you come back."

"Can you promise that I will come back?"

"No. And if you do, you will not be the same."

Bilbo took a breath shaking his head. "That's what I thought. Sorry, Gandalf, I can't sign this. You've got the wrong Hobbit."

"Does he?" Linetta questioned looking at him. "You would make a mighty fine burglar with what I've seen so far." She shook her head lightly looking over at Gandalf as Bilbo left the room. "I do think we might have come too far to turn back now… do we truly need him? If he doesn't want to go…"

"I have the utmost faith in him, Linetta."

Linetta let out a soft hum watching him walk down the hall. "I do hope you're right."

Thorin, Balin, and Win watched Bilbo walk down the hall.

Balin let out a breath shaking his head lightly not liking the idea that they probably didn't have a burglar to even go into the mists of where Smaug lay and reclaim their homeland. It would be impossible to do so without having someone who didn't smell like a fae, human, or dwarf. "It appears we have lost our burglar. Probably for the best. The odds were always against us. After all, what are we? Merchants, miners, tinkers, toy-makers, fae; hardly the stuff of legend."

Thorin took a breath knowing that Balin was right; there wasn't much to hold up to a legend that they were about to make. A small company making their way to a place where he had dreamed of going back to and showing his sisters-sons the world that they would have grown up in if it wasn't for King Thoror's greed. "There are a few warriors amongst us."

"Old warriors," Balin said with a shake of his head.

"And young ones," Win said, looking over at Balin. "Who wants to prove their worth." She wrapped her white-clad arms around her midsection, taking a breath. She was hoping that the younger fae that joined them would be able to handle what was to come in the aftermath of this meeting. Nothing about this was going to be easy.

"I will take each and every one of these dwarves over an army from the Iron Hills. For when I called upon them, they came. Loyalty. Honor. A willing heart. I can ask no more than that." Thorin then looked out of the corner of his eyes to Win who sat there on the table like she was a child once more in his eyes. Something that he had missed seeing even though she was an adult fae of royal blood who could've easily backed away and said no to reclaim his homeland. "And I called upon the courts of the fae and they gave us what they could and I can ask no more than that. They want to help us reclaim our homeland. A promise…"

"You don't have to do this. You have a choice. You've done honorably by our people. You have built a new life for us in the Blue Mountains, a life of peace and plenty. A life that is worth more than all the gold in Erebor." Balin said, putting his hand on Thorin's arm. This was his king and no matter where they were either in the Blue Mountains or in Erebor. He would always be king no matter what.

Thorin held out the key that Gandalf had given to him like it was a lifeline to the life that they could have once again. "From my grandfather to my father, this has come to me. They dreamt of the day when the dwarves of Erebor would reclaim their homeland. There is no choice, Balin. Not for me."

"Then we are with you, laddie. We will see it done." Balin said with a nod of his head.

"You have me behind you Thorin," Win said softly as she got off of the table and slowly moved away from the two of them. "We'll see it done." She walked away slowly towards the door and went outside.

Balin looked at Thorin. "You should try to speak with her laddie… this might be your only chance before it becomes too busy with the quest of reclaiming our homeland."

Win looked up to the stars taking a soft breath, her hand over the necklace that was made for her years ago. Her ears twitched as she heard heavy footsteps coming towards the door. She swallowed the lump in her throat, feeling she knew who was coming her way.

The door opened revealing Thorin. He walked outside and stopped beside her.

Win turned looking at Thorin. She bit her pale pink lip softly. "Thorin." She said softly.

"I'm glad that you came." He said softly looking up at the stars.

"I promised you all those years ago. I wouldn't back down from a promise." She said softly, turning her attention to Throin before looking away up to the sky.

"I know. It's not who you are." He said softly.

She took a soft breath turning her attention to Throin. "I haven't heard from you in a long time." She said softly, biting her lower lip softly. "Last thing that I heard from you was when you were in Moria… and heard that you made a home in the Blue Mountains."

"I apologize." He said softly, looking over at her. "I didn't mean to cut off all contact from you, Win."

"Tha fios agam nach do rinn thu, Thorin." She said, giving him a soft look. She carefully ran her small fingers over the necklace that she wore.

Thorin noticed the necklace that she was running her fingers over it. "You still have it."

She looked up into his blue eyes. "Why wouldn't I?" She tilted her head to the side, biting her lower lip softly. "You gave it to me… one of my most prized possessions."

Thorin reached down and touched it lightly with his thick fingers grazing against her cool skin. "I thought you would give it away."

"I would never." She noticed something sparkling around his neck. "I see you still have my gift."

Thorin slowly removed his hand from her necklace and pulled out the silver chain that had a snowflake on it. "I would never not wear it."

Win smiled a small smile. "I wish I was able to give you more than that."

Thorin's lips quirked a little bit. "I know what you mean." He admitted softly.

Win touched his cheek softly with her dainty hand stroking his beard softly in soft strokes. "Perhaps one day we'll be able to do what we want to do." Her hand stopped on his cheek, staying there for a moment before she slowly removed her hand from his cheek. She cleared her throat shyly. "We should go back inside."

Thorin nodded his head knowing that was true. They needed to rest before they would begin their journey.

The dwarves and faes gathered in Bilbo's living room, the dwarves smoking their pipes while the faes sat where they could.

The dwarves and Win began to hum together in a somber tune.

Thorin began to sing his voice timber and mourn the loss of the mountain he had called home.

"Far over the misty mountains cold

To dungeons deep and caverns old

We must away ere break of day

To find our long-forgotten gold"

The others joined in along with Win finishing the somber tune.

The pines were roaring on the height

The winds were moaning in the night

The fire was red, it flaming spread

The trees like torches blazed with light"

Gandalf listened from where he sat smoking on his pipe and the three younger faes who didn't know the story fully, but the song helped with some of the learning of what had happened to Erebor. Soon they would learn even more of what the mountain was about and what was so important about having it back.

This is the end of Chapter 4. I've tried to add extra things to this chapter to make it a bit longer, and I think I succeeded in writing this chapter out. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I truly did try my best to write this chapter out. What do you think Thorin wanted to give her besides the necklace that she wears on her neck? Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Reviews help me keep going when it comes to writing. And so far it has helped me a lot in my writing. I hope to have the next chapter out soon. Until next time.
