A/N Finally, the part you've all been waiting for! I can't believe that it's Thursday again. Thank you for all of the favourites, comments and follows! They are much appreciated! I also want to know what you guys think, is there a certain character interaction you want to see? Or do you have ways for me to improve? Let me know! Criticism isn't bad if it's constructive!
The Scouts had been walking through the forest until Sasha stopped in her tracks.
"Did you hear that?" She said.
"I don't care what the reason is, I'm not going to introduce myself!" A voice shouted.
"That's from the direction of the pond," Mikasa said, glancing from Eren to Armin to Levi.
Panic filled everyone's eyes.
"W-was that a person?" Connie asked, fear seeping into his body.
"Could they be Marleyain?" Armin asked, his voice squeaking.
"Let's go find out," Levi said, drawing his swords, launching a grappling hook into a tree, and soaring away.
Hange was right behind him and noticed that he slowed to let Hange overtake him, they couldn't have done it otherwise.
Then the voice shouted again: "Are we just going to fly on over there on fire breathing dragons and tell them we mean no harm!"
Hange's head spun at these words, what exactly were these 'dragons'? And how could a living creature 'breath fire'?
"What if they have dragon killing machines that we didn't see!" The voice continued now getting louder.
There are mechanisms to kill the dragons? What are dragons? Hange thought.
"How friendly do you think we look from the sky, Hiccup!?"
Hiccup? What sort of name is that? Hange wasn't the only one with this thought, but it was suppressed by the words 'dragons' and 'fire breathing'. What the hell were they up against? Titans certainly didn't breathe fire, it's biologically impossible, no way 'dragons' can do it.
"Levi, take Mikasa and Eren and swing around that way," Hange ordered.
The three of them nodded and took off with some extra speed to wrap around the clearing.
"We've got a Monstrous Nightmare and a Zippleback! Not to mention your N-" The voice shouted then became muffled.
There was another, shakier voice that spoke but it was too quiet to make out.
"So much for the element of surprise," Jean muttered.
"Do you have any idea what they're talking about, Armin?" Hange asked.
"No idea, commander."
Levi was the only one not fully paying attention to what they were saying, it didn't matter what they said, they were a threat. But he couldn't help but notice how he didn't comprehend half of what they were saying.
"Could they be Razorwhips?" A different voice asked.
What the hell is a Razorwhip? Levi thought, That one sounds dangerous.
"I-if they were Razorwhips then w-we would have had p-problems with them l-last night, not this l-late since our arrival." A third, terrified voice replied.
"Could-could it be g-g-giants?" The shouting voice asked, this time a lot more fearful.
This got the Scout's attention; they were talking about the titans. They had to be Marleyain.
"The ones with four heads?"
"And bloodied fangs?" Two more voices added.
What? Was the collective thought of the Scouts.
Armin's head was spinning with all of this new information and none of it was adding up. They had to be Marleyain to even attempt to get on their island but what they were saying didn't add up. And this talk about dragons, what were they?
"If they were real, there is no way they could get through that forest without making a lot more noise." Another voice answered.
Okay, Armin thought, Definitely not Marleyain. But if they're not Marleyain then who can they be?
Hange was following a similar thought process as Armin ending with the same conclusion.
But if what the shouting voice was saying earlier is true then they didn't come here to hurt us, Hange thought. At least that is what they were hoping for, by the sounds of it they had dragons with them and they had no idea how to fight those. The best they could hope for is a friendly confrontation.
"Surround them!" Hange called, as soon as the clearing came into view. There were 6 people holding a variety of weapons and one of them was unarmed but he looked to be the leader by the way everyone was glancing at him. They didn't seem much older than the rest of the scouts, with the exception of Hange and Levi the rest of them were only 16. There were also 5 dragons, a green one with 2 heads, a blue one that looked kind of like a bird, a brown one that was very round much like the shaking boy next to it, a red one that was the largest of the bunch, and a black one that looked ready to pounce at the unarmed boy's command.
They burst out of the trees and landed with ease all with their weapons drawn. Hange was about to approach when the unarmed boy made a fire sword appear in his clenched fist. They wanted to analyze that sword so bad, but that thought had to wait. Another thing that Hange learned was they were dealing with unknown capabilities, much like the titan shifters when they first started out.
The clearing was silent, no one wanted to make a sound or the first move. Not a sound was heard for what felt like hours until Hange spoke.
"I am Commander Hange Zoe of the Survey corps. Who are you?"
"I'm Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, leader of the Dragon Riders of Berk."
Hange looked over and saw Sasha and Connie snicker a little.
"Is your name really Hiccup?" Levi asked, he couldn't help but notice that they had no uniform, nothing was the same across all of them. They all held different weapons, for the most part, four of the six of them had helmets with horns on them but 'Hiccup' stood out the most. His fire sword had caught them all a little off guard, none of them knew that was even possible, he didn't seem as strong, or well built as the others. His pants were odd too, with loops coming off of them, and he had a metal leg. If it hadn't been for the way everyone was looking to him for direction Levi would have guessed axe girl to be the leader.
The boy with a massive hammer snorted and was about to say something when the girl with blond hair holding the axe glared at him.
"Is their name really Hange?" Hiccup replied, with a little bit of annoyance seeping into his voice.
He doesn't seem to be lying. Hange thought.
The black dragon growled a bit louder, taking a few menacing steps forward.
"Easy, Toothless," Hiccup muttered, just loud enough for Hange to hear.
Hiccup's mind was whirring, what is the survey corps? They look to be represented by what they wear and that crest of wings on their sleeves. But they don't look like dragon wings at all. Have they ever seen dragons before? They seem to be keeping their distance. Wait, if they knew about dragons then they would know about Night Furys and they would be running from Toothless.
"You've never encountered dragons before, have you?" Hiccup asked, wanting to know if his hunch was correct.
"No, but we have now," Hange said.
Hiccup smiled inwardly and for the first time he took in Hange's appearance, they had brown hair pulled back into a ponytail and goggle like glasses that went over an eye patch. They had nothing on their uniform to identify them as commander though, then again, neither did he. He glanced around at the others, there were 8 survey corps members in total and they all looked very tense, they must not like outsiders.
"Why are you here?" Hange asked.
"We were chasing a Rockfin dragon that has been attacking anything that gets near it and tearing ships to shreds that try to pass by it. We lost its scent around 5 o'clock yesterday and decided to come to the edge of the island to see if we could track it some other way."
This answer seemed to lessen the tension of the forest, those who had been white knuckle gripping their weapons let colour return to their hands and those who were shaking were no longer doing so, with the exception of Fishlegs. Even the dragons stopped growling and their narrowed eyes became a little less focused.
They're not Marleyain, that's good. Levi thought, But this Rockfin dragon is not.
"This Rockfin dragon sounds like a big problem," Hange said, mostly to themselves.
"It is, which is why we were sent to find it and stop it."
"Who sent you?" Levi asked, nearly cutting off Hiccup's sentence.
"My father Stoick the Vast, Chief of the Hooligan tribe of Berk," Hiccup answered, he liked Hange much better, they seemed a lot more friendly. The short glaring man hadn't even introduced himself and his glares reminded Hiccup too much of his fathers.
"That sounds made up," Levi stated.
"We're Vikings, we're not known for our intellect or our wise naming choices," Hiccup said, he was starting to get sick of his own tribe's name, he didn't need outsiders questioning it.
Vikings, I think I read about them once. Armin thought, I should tell Hange.
"So you're not Marleyian," Hange said.
"No, we're Vikings," Hiccup said, "But you're not Vikings, and I'm pretty sure you're not Marleyian, who are you?"
Hange paused for a second, it would not be the wisest thing to disclose but they needed to build trust, "We're the Eldians of Paradis."
Hiccup and the rest of the Vikings visibly relaxed causing a confused sentiment to pass through the Scouts. From what the Scouts understood they were considered devils by the outside world so why would the Vikings relax?
Hange and Levi looked at each other, they were both thinking the same things. These people didn't seem to know anything about them, therefore they weren't a threat, yet.
"Alright," Hange said, putting their blades away. Levi reluctantly did the same.
The rest of the scouts looked towards their leaders, confusion crossing their faces. But then Hiccup flicked his wrist and his flame sword died out and the rest of the dragon riders lowered their weapons one after another. The scouts sheathed their blades as well, the tension in the air was thinning out. The dragon's eyes widened, a show of friendliness and got out of their attacking stances. Hiccup slowly lowered his hand in front of Toothless who looked at him making a questioning gurgle but trusted Hiccup nonetheless.
"Welcome to Paradis!" Hange said, a little too excitedly for Levi's taste.
