As far as Percy was concerned, things could have been going far worse than they were. Currently, he was seated in the infirmary of Camp Jupiter. His charge, as Artemis had taken to calling her, was still too hurt to seriously move or function on her own. Another issue was that she was extremely hesitant to let anyone near her. Typically, that right was reserved for some of the doctors, himself, Artemis/Diana, and Reyna. Interestingly, she seemed quite averse to older women in general (particularly if they had brown hair), maybe due to the suffering at the hand of her mother. Still though, she was old enough to understand when she was in need of help and grudgingly accepted the assistance of a few of the doctors.
If he was being honest, he couldn't say he blamed her. They'd yet to learn her name, but he wasn't particularly surprised that she was keeping details close to her chest. He used to do the same with Gabe. He frowned at that thought, making a mental note to ask her what all had happened when she was more comfortable around him. Then again, maybe it'd be better to let someone else handle it. He'd never been the most tactful.
Of course, he wasn't sure who exactly he'd entrust that job to. Reyna was a good option, as was Hazel, but she'd been slow to open up. He sighed as he slumped back in his chair. Well, they had the benefit of time on their hands. Truthfully, there was no need to rush. With that being said, the infirmary would be closing relatively soon so if he was going to visit, he'd need to do it now. While he was sure they would make an exception for him, he didn't want to make their already difficult job any harder. He noticed that she'd been moved to a different room, likely due to a change in health. Given that she wasn't in intensive care any longer, it seemed that it was a change for the better.
He knocked gently, waiting. He could hear her shift before allowing him to enter. She certainly looked a lot better. Nectar and ambrosia really did work wonders for demigods. He fumbled with the handle for a second but quickly got it closed. He grinned sheepishly as he turned to face the room's inhabitant. She seemed amused.
"They really need to make better door knobs," Percy shrugged, moving so that he could sit down in one of the chairs by the bed, "How are you holding up?"
She shrugged. From what the doctors told him, she didn't speak much. They also told him that she was likely around fifteen and was currently rather malnourished though that was easy enough to see. He continued, "Are you feeling okay?"
Again, another shrug. About what he expected, "and uh, have they explained everything to you?"
At this, she nodded causing him to sigh in relief. He had always been awful at the whole orientation thing, "That's good. Do you remember me at all?"
"You're Percy," her voice was quiet, "you and the goddess lady got me out."
Percy laughed, "Goddess lady huh?"
"I don't remember her name," she stared at him.
"Well, you met her as both Lady Artemis and as Diana, so it makes sense," Percy shrugged, "Are you hungry? The food here isn't the greatest."
"Better than what I got at home," she shrugged. He got the distinct feeling that she was joking, causing him to smile.
"You're not on any restrictions, are you?" Percy asked, "I'd rather not have angry romans after me again."
She shook her head, causing him to grin. He sent a gentle prayer to Hestia, and he felt a bit of power flow through him, "What would you like to eat?"
"I don't know," her voice was hesitant. Percy simply nodded.
"Well," Percy's grin got a bit wider as two large plates of assorted foods appeared in front of him, "Pick and choose."
Not for the first time, he was thankful that Hestia was as kind as she was. She'd insisted that all he need do is pray to her when he needed help, and typically that came in the form of food. It was often a good method for getting those who were otherwise untrusting to open up a little. It was, after all, hard to turn down a home cooked meal. He'd sort of just gone for everything, though he insisted on blue cookies being part of the ensemble. He nabbed one for himself and set the plates down on the little table at the farther end of the room.
"Do you need help getting up?" he asked gently. She looked hesitant for a moment, before nodding. While she had filled out a little in her time at Camp Jupiter, Percy assumed that her muscles were still quite weak. Ambrosia and nectar could heal, but they did little for growth, and even if they did, most demigods wouldn't be able to handle the substances in large enough quantities for it to be helpful. His eyes instinctively picked up on the way she seemed to favor her left side so he appeared on the other side of the bed, slipping an arm under her own so that he could support her.
"Thank you," her voice was once again quiet, but he could make it out easily enough. He would have laughed if he wasn't so concerned about getting her to the seat. Their awkward hobble was quite a comical sight given Percy's larger stature. Soon enough though, they found themselves seated across from one another. Percy was far more comfortable, casually reaching out and picking up random items as he pleased. The girl was far more reserved, though he wasn't surprised. She'd started out with the simpler foods such as small pieces of bread and a few nuts. That'd continued on for a few minutes as some of her trepidation wore off and was replaced by hunger. Still though, she tended to stick to a few of the smaller items, mostly smaller portions of meat and cheese but Percy noticed that she seemed to be avoiding anything he was eating with any regularity.
He frowned at that. The question then was if she was doing so because she didn't want to eat it, or because he happened to be taking from it. Either were plausible, but given the way her eyes followed his movements, he had to imagine it was the latter of the two. Well, time to test it. He casually reached for one of the smaller portions of cheese that she'd been taking from and observed. He wasn't all too surprised to hear her suck in a quiet breath before avoiding it all together. Outwardly, he tried to remain as passive as he could, but inside he was seething. Maybe he should have been rougher with them. Ares too for that matter. Percy imagined the war god wouldn't take too kindly to having to part ways with a few of his fingers, but he didn't particularly care.
He spoke gently, forcefully quelling his anger, "You're welcome to anything in front of you."
He watched as she froze. It was quick, but he'd seen the way she'd paused while bringing her fork up. Another tide of anger flowed through him, but he reigned it in as he continued to speak, "Stop me if I'm wrong, but you weren't allowed to touch anything they were eating, were you?"
Her eyes widened for a moment as she deflated a little, slumping back into her seat, "I'm sorry."
"Don't be," he paused for a moment, "Would it be easier for you if I left the room?"
She shook her head once more but her eyes were fixed to the floor. He sighed, sitting back in his chair, "I don't want to be alone."
He smiled, "I can do that, but you're going to have to eat."
She glanced up at him once more before nodding slowly. He heard a soft "okay" as he leaned back in his seat. He was happy to see her tentatively reach for some of the baked goods that he'd placed out. Slowly, she began to take more items, reaching for a variety this time. While she tended to stick towards a few of the heartier things like roasted potatoes and the cheeses, he observed her likewise choosing smaller portions of the more sugary items such as candied fruits and small bits of chocolate.
He grinned as soon as she took one of the blue cookies. She'd looked mildly surprised to see the color, but had downed it without a second thought. And then she went for another. That made him quite happy. Slowly, the two made light conversation, though Percy was largely the one to speak, explaining several aspects of demigod life as well as a bit about himself. Wisely, he avoided the topic of parentage and such, instead focusing on the more communal aspects of the two camps while also explaining the relationships and dynamics of everyone. While she didn't speak much, it was obvious that she was becoming a little more comfortable. Where she'd initially been tentative about the platters in front of her, she now asked for his advice on what to try as she'd never gotten the chance to try many of them.
He'd laughed initially, claiming that everything in front of her was good before honing in on a few specific things. So far, it seemed that her favorites tended to be some of the tree nuts as well as honeycomb. He hadn't expected that, but it made sense. Most of the actual sweets were too much for her, making her feel a little sick as she tried them. He supposed a lack of sugar would do that to a person. Strangely though, she returned to his mother's cookies a number of times. He wasn't quite sure how she was stomaching this much food, but he was glad regardless. A few good meals would go a long way. Maybe next time, Hestia could stop by when he did. She always did have that special talent for calming people down.
After a while, they'd simply sat together and talked. While Percy was, once again, the person talking the most, his new charge had slowly begun to speak more. She was quite quiet even when she spoke, but he imagined that wouldn't change any time soon. He didn't exactly mind a more reserved child of the war god. Honestly, his life could have been much easier if a certain counselor and head of Ares cabin was just a bit more peaceful when they were younger. Then again, he imagined that Ares wouldn't have liked her nearly as much as he did if she was. Eventually, it got late though and it seemed that her time in the infirmary had put her on a schedule as she seemed to get drowsier by the second.
It was a simple enough matter to dispose of everything before helping her to her bed once more. After a quick goodbye and the promise of another visit, he was off. If he recalled, Reyna had insisted he stop by after he was done and he was happy to oblige. He hadn't spoken to the girl in quite some time. It was an easy task to make his way towards her quarters. His quarters used to be in a similar area when he had been made praetor. If he chose to stick around for more than a day at a time, he imagined they would just give him his old home back but he wasn't too particularly interested in that.
He easily made his way through the streets, occasionally greeting people he recognized. He tried to ignore some of the stares that he was getting, but it was getting difficult as some had taken to openly ogling him as if he were some sort of rare animal. Luckily though, that ended as he approached his friend's quarters.
He simply waved off the guards as they tried bowing and strolled straight past, grinning as he recalled a particular memory from a few years back. Since his almost complete disappearance at the time, people hadn't recognized him and had tried to block him from entering as it had been about a year since he'd shown his face at camp. Of course, he'd casually drawn his blade and that had been enough to get them to back off. While most weapons were taken, he was one of the few with an exception to that rule. He pushed those thoughts away as he knocked on the rather large wooden door of Reyna's home. He wasn't surprised to find that the door was answered quite quickly, swinging open to reveal the daughter of Bellona.
She gave him an appraising once over before greeting him, "You took longer than I expected."
He shrugged, "Can't rush some things."
She gestured for him to come inside, "Did you find out about anything new?"
He shook his head as he stepped over the boundary to her home, "Not much more than what we already did. She's opening up though. And she likes honey."
Reyna cocked her head as she turned to face the son of the sea, "Honey?"
Percy shrugged again, "What have you been up to?"
She led him through the house towards her living room before flopping down on the couch and gesturing for him to do the same, "Not as much as you'd think. Things have been quiet recently and I am thankful for that."
Percy chuckled as he sat next to her, "No kidding. It's still a little strange to see everyone settling down."
"Tell me about it," Reyna said as she leaned forward and lightly brushed a bit of hair out of his face, "When's the last time you cut this?"
"Uh," Percy attempted to recall but couldn't. He was pretty sure it'd been almost a year, maybe a little more since he last tried to do anything with it, "Couldn't tell you."
She fiddled with one of her several bracelets as she spoke, "You should at least keep it off your neck. It'll look better."
Percy tried imagining what she was saying but came up with nothing, "Yeah, no idea what you're on about."
Reyna rolled her eyes, "Do you want me to cut it for you?"
"Works for me, you know better than I do."
"All I'd be doing is cutting off anything lower than your nape to clean up the look a bit."
"I'll just trust you on that one," Percy grinned, "I'm sure it'll be fine."
"It's not like I don't know what I'm doing," Reyna mumbled, getting up, likely in search of scissors, "I used to do it a lot for Circe."
Percy nodded, "I forgot about that."
"I try to," she called over her shoulders, "You remember where the bathroom is right? We'll cut it there since I don't want your hair all over my couch."
Percy laughed, "Whatever works."
Reyna reappeared, scissors in hand, "It'll be easier if you brush it while I get everything."
"What do you need other than scissors?"
"Spray bottle to make it a bit easier to cut and maybe a razor," Reyna paused for a moment as she glanced at him, "Try not to move."
"I'll do my best," Percy said, running the brush through his hair to get any tangles out. He had quite a few as it would turn out. Thankfully though, the overall process of cutting everything took less time than he expected. She'd just tidied up the back of his neck and left everything else more or less the same. She added a few layers here and there but other than that, the length was untouched. He did have to admit that it looked quite nice. Currently, she was taking a second to survey her handiwork, having him turn his head so that she could view the angles.
"The long hair suits you," Reyna decided, moving his head a little so that she could see the back of his neck.
"That's the consensus I've been getting," Percy said, standing up. They took a second to clean up before returning to the living room, "I was thinking about a few things."
"That's rare," the praetor shot him a sly smile.
Percy rolled his eyes, "Yeah anyway, you wouldn't happen to have a blowtorch, would you?"
Reyna paused for a moment, pivoting to face him, "What?"
"A blowtorch," Percy repeated, propping his cheek against his knuckles.
"Yeah I got that, but why?"
"I wanted to vandalize something," he shrugged.
"Why?"
"Why not?"
She attempted to remind him that he was a praetor at the camp he would be attempting to vandalize but he just shrugged it off since it wouldn't be happening at camp and that he was technically a praetor as well (even if it was just an honorary one). That had garnered more questions which he'd been more than happy to answer. Unsurprisingly, after hearing the reasoning, his friend seemed to be on board. Unfortunately, neither of them had a blowtorch though so that was a bit of a bummer. Reyna did have good news though. While it only tangentially related to vandalism, it did relate to the recipient of said acts of violence. Ares, though Reyna preferred to call him Mars, had not been seen around Olympus since Percy had worked his magic. While he initially had been upset to hear this at the reminder of his own perceived issue, he quickly got over it.
It was getting harder and harder not to imagine that the war god was similar to his old stepfather. It was a wonder that Aphrodite hung around him, but he'd long since realized that the love god operated in her own way with her own standards but that was a topic for another day. They quickly moved past that topic though as the two hadn't caught up in quite a while. Apparently, Reyna was considering stepping down. He couldn't say he blamed her. She was as much of a free spirit as he was, and honestly, he was a little surprised that she'd made it this far.
"What's stopping you?"
She sighed, "It's what I've known since leaving the island."
He nodded, rubbing his nose, "Makes sense. It's not like much would change though, other than having less responsibility."
"It feels wrong to just drop it all on someone else though," Reyna shrugged.
Percy tilted his head, "Really? Things couldn't be going more perfectly. There's no better time to hand it off."
She glanced at him, "And then what?"
Percy leaned back in his seat, "Then you do whatever you want."
"I don't know what I want," Reyna insisted as she pinched the bridge of her nose, "I've never been on my own before."
"There's no reason you have to be alone when you do it."
"Are you volunteering to join me?"
Percy shot her down, "You know it isn't but that doesn't mean there can't be others."
Reyna mulled over the thought, "And what if there isn't anyone else?"
Percy nodded in understanding, "You know that I started off looking at it the same way after Annabeth and I broke up but I'm doing pretty alright."
"You're kidding right?"
"Hey," Percy said indignantly, "I could be doing so much worse. But look, if you keep saying what if you're only going to get stuck in your head. We've got no time limit anymore. We have all the time in the world to do what we want. If you decide you don't want to do whatever it is you're doing anymore, you have the rest of your immortal life to do something else."
"You're oversimplifying it."
Percy rolled his eyes, "Listen, the entire reason that we ended up in the situations we did during the titan war was because the gods were too scared to change. Look at how that ended up. People get complacent when they have an unlimited lifespan. They put off change and look at where it got them."
She let out a long sigh, "You're pretty insightful for an idiot. When'd you grow up?"
Percy chuckled, letting himself lean into the couch, "It's all I could do the last few years. Hard not to."
The daughter of Bellona wasn't sure how to respond, and so she didn't. They'd found that they were quite comfortable in silence at times, and it appeared that this was one such time. It was easy to forget all of the things Percy had gone through, but at times like these, it became quite apparent. He had outward scars, sure, but it seemed that the internal scarring was far worse. Where he'd once been carefree and unbridled as a younger demigod, he now carried a certain weight. It was strange to see. Now, he carried himself differently. He was a bit more subdued, but he spoke with a certain air of power. In some ways, it reminded her of the olympians.
Even when he'd first shown up, and even without his memories, that had been true. It'd been part of the reason she'd been drawn to make him praetor alongside herself. At first, it had seemed almost otherworldly, but now it fit. He'd grown into his power as he aged and it showed in many ways. If she recalled a conversation she'd had with Minerva correctly, oftentimes people tended to flock around those powerful individuals. It was part of the reason that heroes were such large figures in history. They had the uncanny ability to gather everyone weak and strong around them and inspire them or teach an important lesson.
Percy happened to be one such individual. He'd almost single handedly united the two camps and had done more than anyone in recent memory. It reflected in those who surrounded him, ranging from the six members of prophecy (or five of them in this case) to his friendships with a multitude of gods and goddesses, both Olympian or otherwise. Even the Roman legion had gotten over their mistrust of him in record time, despite being both a son of the sea and greek. She glanced at him, but it seemed that he was nodding off. She stifled a laugh at that. It was good to see that he was getting some sleep as it was rather late. Gods knew he needed it.
A knock at her door seemed to both somewhat rouse the man and stir her from her musings. Strange, given the late time, but not something that happened without some level of regularity. As praetor, she was accustomed to being needed at all hours of the day. Coincidentally, it was one of the things she was going to be happiest about when she stepped down. Regardless of that though, duty called at the moment. After taking a second to brush a few offending strands of hair out of her face and flatten out her clothes, she strode over to the door to find one roman goddess of the moon awaiting. Reyna's eyes widened for a moment before dropping into a bow.
"Lady Diana," Reyna kept her head down, simply as a sign of respect but the goddess waved her off.
"There is no need for formality," she said simply, "I must apologize for the timing of my arrival."
Reyna blinked, surprise making its way across her face, "I was up."
Diana nodded in mild interest, "I don't imagine you are a stranger to late nights."
The praetor cracked a small smile as she led the goddess inside, "The legion never rests."
"Still," Diana smiled, "I do try to avoid dropping in without notice but I have business."
Reyna stiffened a little, "Did something happen?"
The moon goddess shook her head, "The issue was resolved by my counterpart. I am simply here to check in at her request."
"You're talking about the daughter of Mars, right?"
Diana nodded, "How is she?"
Reyna sighed, "She is doing better, but she's still reserved. We don't even know her name. Would you like something to drink?"
The moon goddess politely declined, "I imagined it would be as such."
Reyna took a moment to think, "If I am not overstepping, what happened? She isn't exactly eager to explain."
It was Diana's turn to sigh, "It may be better to sit while I tell you."
Renya nodded before stiffening. The goddess gave her a questioning glance as the girl rubbed her arm sheepishly, "Uh, Percy Jackson is currently asleep on the couch."
The daughter of Bellona radiated discomfort but Diana simply laughed, "That is of no issue. If anything, it works in my favor."
Reyna looked surprised, "It does?"
Diana nodded, her tone light, "As it stands, he and I need to talk about a few things."
Reyna nodded slowly as curiosity overtook her. What business could he have with someone like Diana? Reyna spoke once more, her voice not unsimilar to an exasperated sibling, "He's not in trouble, is he?"
"No, nothing like that," Diana dismissed that notion with a wave of her hand before grinning and whispering conspiratorially, "I trust that you can keep a secret?"
The praetor nodded in mild confusion, "Of course."
Diana's grin grew a little, "Then maybe this is a matter you can help me with. Currently, we are in talks of adding a new olympian."
Something clicked in the younger woman's head, "And Percy is the one you have in mind."
Diana nodded, an approving smile spreading across her face, "He is my only choice and is the favored pick of both the roman and greek councils."
Reyna's eyes widened a little before her brows knit together, "But what could I help you with?"
"Perseus is concerned that he is not suited for it."
That made enough sense to her though it did slightly annoy her, "And he was getting onto me about not going through with things."
Diana cocked her head but said nothing about it, "Regardless, I am hoping that some of his friends may be able to talk some sense into him."
Reyna smiled, "Percy is stubborn."
Diana agreed, "It is admirable and infuriating."
"Glad someone else agrees," Reyna said as she led the goddess towards the room. Sure enough, Percy was out cold, head resting on the armrest of the couch and the praetor couldn't quite bring herself to wake him. Diana regarded him quickly before turning back to her.
"I don't suppose you'd be troubled if I recounted everything at a later date?" Diana asked casually, "It may be best to get him into an actual bed."
Reyna was quick to assure her that it wouldn't be an issue, "I'm pretty sure there are quarters for him somewhere."
"No need," Diana said easily, casually hefting him over one shoulder with ease. The younger woman blinked but didn't question it, "I will excuse myself."
And with that, a slightly confused Reyna was left alone in her home. She shrugged. Who was she to question the goddess's intentions? Of course, the goddess in question wasn't entirely sure what had brought this on either, but that was neither here nor there. It was an easy enough task to flash the child of prophecy home, even if he jerked a little every so often.
The moon goddess took a moment to admire his home as she gently made her way through it, careful not to let him hit anything as she carried him through it. They'd arrived minutes earlier but it'd been a little walk up the beach since Percy's home had protections similar to the camps. If anything though, it was quite similar to the gods' own palaces with nobody being allowed in or out unless he allowed. Of course, that didn't matter as he'd almost instantly allowed everyone in, though he'd kept them from being able to just flash directly into his home. The porch was fair game though but she'd wanted to enjoy the walk. From her understanding, only Poseidon was allowed to show up directly in the home and that made enough sense. Not for the first time, the goddess noted the craftsmanship that had gone into his home.
The exposed woodwork and open styling was certainly nice, and it made her life a little easier. Sure, it'd be a little easier if he'd stop jerking occasionally, but there wasn't much the moon goddess could do about that. Carefully, she reoriented him so that she could avoid a door, noting his choice of decorations as she did so. He jerked once again, this time almost slipping from her grasp but she managed to catch him. His skin was hot to the touch, but she wasn't sure if it had been like that or if she was simply more cognisant of it since she'd almost dropped him.
Luckily though, she made it to his room without any more issue. She glanced at the sea-foam sheets before easily setting him down. If not for the occasional rather violent movement, she would have thought he was dead. He'd yet to wake up despite being flashed from someone else's home and being carried a rather significant distance since he had barriers up around his home. He'd lost the peaceful look when they got to the beach, but she'd imagined that it was simply due to being transported while asleep. It could be rather disconcerting at times. As she was going to leave, she heard a rather sharp intake of breath and had turned around out of curiosity.
While he had not stirred, he now had a light sheen of sweat breaking across his face. Her eyes narrowed for a moment, but nothing else happened. Could he be sick? She observed him for a few moments longer, but when nothing happened, she turned back to leave. Some part of her was on edge, but she tried to brush it off. Try as she might, she couldn't help but feel worried and so, she found her body automatically carrying itself to the couch rather than out the front door.
She would have preferred to think that it was unnecessary but something in the back of her mind wouldn't let it go. Sure enough, after a little while, she heard movement coming from his room. It wasn't his normal steady pace. He seemed to almost stumble around, and she was faintly aware of his heavy breathing. As she went to stand, the door opened to reveal one son the sea looking a little worse for wear. His hair was messy and his face looked pained as he supported himself against the wall. His eyes looked a little cloudy as they darted around before finally settling on herself.
"Artemis?" His voice was quiet and weary. Had the roman goddess not been so concerned she might have teased him for mistaking her for her greek counterpart as she rushed to him.
"Are you alright?" the goddess's voice was tinged with concern.
Percy laughed hoarsely, "It's not a big deal, just another nightmare."
"It looks like it's a big deal," Diana said, moving so that she could support him and bring him over to the couch, "You can hardly stand."
"Happens," Percy shrugged weakly as he let the goddess support him, gratefully throwing an arm around her shoulders as she moved herself so that he could lean on her.
"I am not sure that's something that just happens," Diana's voice was soft. It took a moment for them to make it into the living room and onto a couch. Percy had all but collapsed onto the plushy cushions.
"Happens to me," his voice was weak, but she appreciated his attempt at a joke, "But I guess they're not normally that bad."
"Do you care to talk about it?"
He shook his head, "Not particularly. I don't really want to think about it right now."
The moon goddess could understand that well enough, "Are you hungry?"
Percy's movements were sluggish as he turned to look at the goddess sitting next to him. He felt a little guilty for taking up most of the space on the couch, but he couldn't bring himself to move either, "I'm alright, M'Lady."
Diana nodded before affixing her gaze on the young man that was currently sprawled across the couch, "I have no interest in honorifics or formality. My counterpart may begrudgingly tolerate it, but I will not allow it."
Percy blinked before recognition dawned in his eyes, "Sorry, Lady Diana. I didn't recognize you."
The moon goddess groaned, "What did I just say?"
A light smile danced across his face, "My mom always said it was important to give respect where respect was due."
"And while I find that to be quite admirable," Diana started, "The best way to show your respect would be to do as I ask."
Percy let his head hang a little, "Where's the fun in that?"
Diana tilted her head, "Would you prefer to be a guinea pig?"
"If you insist, Diana," Percy laughed. He paused for a moment, face screwing up a little, "See that just doesn't feel right."
"I will not have a friend address me by a title."
"Then is it too much to ask for you to call me Percy?"
The goddess smirked, repeating his previous sentiment, "Where's the fun in that?"
Percy mocked annoyance, "As you wish, M'Lady."
Diana rolled her eyes, "I recall you informing Artemis that you'd rather not be a rodent again."
"If you were going to turn me into an animal, you already would have," Percy shrugged.
"What's to stop me?"
"You'd like me more as a person."
Diana conceded, "That is true but do not think yourself safe."
The son of the sea lifted his head to look at the moon goddess, "I'm pretty sure I'm plenty safe."
"And why is that?"
Percy's face broke out in a grin as he pushed himself up, "You're too kind."
"I have spent a milenia being addressed as a man-hating goddess, and you think I am kind?"
Percy shrugged, "Legends get exaggerated."
"I turned someone into a deer and let them get eaten by their own dogs."
He smiled, "And if I recall, he was trying to see you bathe."
Diana rolled her eyes, "Even so, that is not a "kind" response."
"Never said you were perfect," Percy let his head lean back against the backrest before looking at the goddess, confusion evident on his face, "How did I get here?"
"I brought you here," Diana said casually, "You were drooling on your colleague's couch."
Percy rolled his eyes, "I don't drool anymore. I do remember being asleep on Reyna's couch though."
"You seemed comfortable."
"I was," Percy said simply, "I didn't think I'd fall asleep though."
"She puts you at ease then?" Diana examined her finger nails.
"We are comfortable with each other, but I just haven't been sleeping well."
The moon goddess nodded, "You are lucky to have such a friend."
Percy agreed, "She's a bit easier to talk to since she's not tied down in the same way some of the others are. As much as I trust my friends, I think that they worry too much and they talk about it with each other. Things stop with her."
"So you seek her out."
Percy laughed, "Not really. I do try to drop in every so often but that's about it."
"I am sure she would appreciate your company more often," Diana's voice was casual, though he was certain she was teasing him.
"I'm sure she would," the young man brushed a few strands of hair out of his face.
"It seems that there is a story there," She seemed interested.
"Not much to say," Percy shrugged, "Do you and Artemis share information between each other?"
"I experience what she does, though we try not to meddle. Why?"
"It just saves me from having to explain it twice," Percy nodded before taking a breath, "Reyna and I tried the whole relationship thing once but I wasn't ready for it. Also, I'm pretty sure she's into women."
Diana blinked, apparently surprised to hear this, "I see."
Percy yawned, "We're better off as friends anyway. I'm not exactly over Annabeth yet anyway."
"I recall you mentioning that," Diana paused, "I admit that it is surprising to hear that you still have feelings for the daughter of Athena."
Percy shook his head, "I guess I should say that I'm not over our relationship. I wouldn't get back with her, but I think I'm just not ready to let someone else in like that."
Diana could understand that, "It is hard not to imagine you as a fawn."
"As in roman satyr?" Percy asked.
Diana shook her head, "As in a baby deer."
"In what regard?" He chuckled.
"You are skittish. Cute and a bit naive but jumpy."
"Is that a compliment?" Percy joked.
"It is an observation, but I suppose it is."
"Thanks," he laughed, "Don't you ever get tired?"
"I am a goddess," Diana shrugged, "And the goddess of the moon at that. I am up at night."
He yawned once more, "Well, if you'd like, you're welcome to stay here but I'm getting tired."
"Then sleep," she said simply, watching as he pushed himself up.
He paused as he stood, "Oh, you're here for the week right? Like Artemis isn't going to be around?"
"That is the plan," Diana cocked her head in interest.
"Then would you like to come hang out with everyone?" Percy asked, "I'm sure you know that Artemis is worried about some secret or something."
Diana laughed lightly, "Yes I know she asked you to keep an eye on me."
Percy stretched a little as he thought about how to respond, "She did, but I'm asking because I like you and I think it would be fun."
Diana rolled her eyes playfully, "Then I will be there."
"Great," he smiled. And with that, he disappeared into his room once more.
Yay woo bit of a jumpy chapter. Anyway, been meaning to ask, most of you are on mobile yeah? I try to respond to reviews but I think there isn't a mobile system set up so it's a bit of a hassle. Anyway, jumpy chapter but fun to write. Next five chapters will have Diana since I wanted to do a bit more of an in-depth characterization of her and sort of explore her personality. I just went back to writing about Artemis and trying to make subtle but distinguished differences is making my head hurt a little. Anyway, let me know what you think.
