Author's Note: Hello and Happy New Year! I have a fun sneak peek at Part 2 for you today AND some good news about part 2! My betas have been VERY efficient and I am well on my way to cleaning up part 2 for posting! The new tentative plan is to resume regular posting at the end of January YAY! I'm excited to share Part 2 with you soon :)

Friday 30 December

11:30 pm

Dear Lily,

I know it's only been like a half hour since I last saw you, but I had to write you. So... how's your night going?

No, that's stupid. Let me try again.

I had a nice time at the wedding. With you. I mean, I could have done without the whole Death Eater dramatics. Though I suppose those were necessary, because otherwise you wouldn't have invited me to come. And I'm glad you did. Like... really glad.

Also, want to talk about what happened? Not the battle, just, you know, the stuff that happened... later.

Anyways, write back soon. I'd love to hear from you.

James

Friday Saturday 31 December

12:45 am

Lily,

Also, I forgot to tell you how nice you looked last night. I mean, I guess I did, but Sirius interrupted, and I thought maybe you'd think I was joking because it was right after the battle and you (we) were all banged up and stuff, but I was being serious. You looked beautiful. That's all.

Anyways, sorry for sending you an owl so late. Hopefully he goes in and out quietly.

James

Saturday 31 December

6:30 am

Dear Lily,

I suppose I shouldn't expect you to write back in the middle of the night. It's fine. Just hope to hear from you soon...

But also, I hope a lack of response so far means you're getting plenty of sleep. You deserve it, after that crazy day yesterday – wedding business, arguing with your mad sister, dealing with Vernon, battling Death Eaters... kissing me... I'm just saying, it was a big day. For you, I mean. Not for me. A little bit for me. Okay, I had a big day, too.

I think I got some sleep? Maybe for a couple hours? Not sure. If Sirius was here, he'd probably tell me I'm driving him nutters, but he's staying at Hogwarts with Remus until school starts. Peter's heading back early, too, sometime today. Are you catching the train back on Monday? You probably are. I'll see you then.

Can't wait!

James

Saturday 31 December

11:50 am

Dear Lily,

Trying to do the math to figure out how long it'd take Barnaby to fly here. If you wrote this morning right when you woke up, and you didn't have too much of a lie-in, he should fly in any minute now...

But suppose you sleep late when you're on holiday? Which, like, good for you! That's great! But also, wake up soon. And write me.

Please?

James

Saturday 31 December

4:10 pm

Dear Lily,

Just spoken with Sirius and Remus at Hogwarts, and Remus says five letters is far too many to have sent you before dinner today, but I don't know... Because if it was enough, you would have written back by now, right?

Although Sirius says maybe you've got big New Year's Eve plans you're wrapped up in. If that's the case, I forgive you, and I'm sorry for having bothered you all day while you're celebrating with family. Unless it's not with family? So long as you're not out partying with a bunch of other blokes. That'd hardly be fair, Evans. Take a bloke to a wedding, kiss him, then go out with a bunch of others for the holiday.

...what ARE your New Year's Eve plans?

Maybe I'll Floo Peter and see what he thinks.

Hope you have a happy New Year, and I hope to speak to you soon to hear about it!

James

Saturday 31 December

5:05 pm

Lily,

I mean, if you need New Year's Eve plans, all you have to do is ask. My parents throw a lovely little get-together every New Year's, so long as you like other mature (old) adult witches and wizards, and polite conversation, and bedtime by 10:30.

So, actually, yeah, I think you'd have a great time!

Except Alice will be here (her parents always come and bring her to spare me from being the only young one around), and I'm not sure what your relationship with her is like right now, so maybe not?

Anyways, let me know if you want to come.

James

Saturday 31 December

6:45 pm

Dear Lily,

Okay, the dinner invite was a bad idea. Very last minute. I'm sure you already have plans. And on second thought, you're probably not too keen on dinner parties, given how the last couple you've been to with me turned out.

So it's fine I still haven't heard from you. Tonight will be good. Mum made her spinach puffs and Dad pulled out his fanciest mulled mead from Three Broomsticks, so it's sure to be a good time. Even if you're not here.

Anyways, you have a good evening, too. Just don't party too hard, Evans! And if nothing else, I'll see you Monday back at school.

I miss you.

James

Saturday 31 December

8:05 pm

Dear Lily,

Okay, I don't know who I was kidding. This party is dead boring. Always is. Even Alice flaked on me, so now I'm literally the only one here under, like, sixty. And I know Bathilda Bagshot's a real interesting dinner guest, and she bakes a right perfect Cauldron Cake, but she's also, like a hundred years old and I think I've heard her talk about how the Wizards Council was disbanded in 1707 every dinner party since I was six. That's nearly twelve years of Wizards Council lectures. All the Cauldron Cakes in the world can't make up for that.

So now I'm seeing how long I can hide in the kitchen before Mum makes me come back.

And I keep thinking how much more fun this would be if you were here. Do you think –

Shoot, Mum's found me. Will write later.

James

Saturday 31 December

10:35 pm

Dear Lily,

Guests have left, Mum and Dad have gone to bed, and I have a full plate of food with leftovers from dinner. Finally shaping up to be an alright New Year's Eve.

Although I stand by what I said last letter – it'd be a lot better if you were here. We'd have fun. And I do have A LOT of food. And we could have another go at that kiss at midnight.

Maybe you wouldn't run away the second time.

Merlin, you're not kissing another bloke at midnight, are you?

Maybe that would make sense, though, about why you haven't written back even once...

Huh.

James

Saturday 31 December

10:45 pm

Dear Evans Lily (Just let me write, Moony. She doesn't deserve first name privileges) Evans,

Please kindly respond to James. He's driving ALL OF US crazy. I swear, if I have to hear one more word about you from him (no offense), I'm going to fly all the way back to Somerset and put him out of his misery myself. I'll help! (Thank you, Wormtail.)

So there you have it, Evans. If James Potter doesn't show back up to school Monday, it'll be all your fault, because you'll have driven us – Remus wants me to clarify the 'us' does NOT include him, just Peter and me (the kill-joy) - to murder. Can't be helped.

So for Merlin's sake, JUST WRITE HIM. Even if it's to tell him to shut it.

PLEASE.

Sirius Black

Peter Pettigrew

We need to talk. I'll see you tomorrow.
