A\N: This is my second half of this story, but in this it's McHart who's starring in this. This is another free styled writing oneshot because my head is driving me crazy with all the thinking. This is set in The Good Wife before Alicia and Cary leave Lockhart/Gardner and before Will is killed by Jeffery Grant, but Will and Alicia are engaged. I hope you enjoy this one, Angels.

Diane Lockhart wants nothing more than to throw off her heels, run a bath and soak in said bath with a glass of wine and sleep and be lazy until Monday, or go to the farm with her husband for a long weekend. But sadly with her being Managing Partner of one of the top law firms in Chicago, rest won't come to her easily, not even with Will, her partner, picking up extra hours to help her out with the work load.
Her phone vibrating on top of the desk underneath an open file brings her out of the musings of a bubble bath and a glass of wine or a weekend away from the city with her husband, although she does throw her heels off, hurling them at her door. She reads the caller ID on her phone and smiles when she sees it's her husband calling her at quarter to 11 on a Friday night.
"I was just thinking about you, cowboy." She says, leaning back in her chair, putting her bare feet atop her desk. She hears her husband's chuckle on the other end of the phone.
"Oh really?" He asks, Diane nods even though he can't see her. "I assume it's gonna be another long night at the office again?" Her husband asks her. Diane sighs in frustration and exhaustion.
"You assume correctly, cowboy. I'm sorry, I know we were meant to be having dinner but the latest case is a big one and it's all hands on deck." As much as she loves being a lawyer, she hates the hours it comes with because it also comes with a lot of disappointment on both sides.
"Hey, don't worry about it, we can do dinner another night." Her husband says, trying to ease the guilt that is gnawing at her.
"I've got to go. I love you, Kurt." Diane says lovingly.
"I love you too, Diane." Kurt says softly, she can almost see the quirk of his lips as they lift into a smile underneath his moustache.
She takes the phone away from her ear and hangs up, dropping the device down on the desk with a sigh. She wishes that the phone call was longer, so she could hear about his day, about how his new case is, and everything else they talk about when they are apart.
She sometimes hates being a lawyer.

She's so busy wrapped in paperwork for the case that she doesn't feel a set of eyes staring at her, nor does she smell the food emitting from a takeout bag, nor does she notice the way someone is looking at her with concern and love mixed together.
Until she hears the clearing of a throat.
Diane's head snaps up, a scowl forming on her face at the interruption.
The scowl quickly turns into a surprised smile when she sees her husband in her office, holding a takeout bag in his hand. She's confused: why is her husband here at ten to 12 on a Friday night?
She stands up, her bare feet tickling the carpet, and walks over to her husband, who is walking toward her, the takeout bag being placed on the floor just as Diane captures his lips with hers. The kiss makes her breathless and dizzy, though the dizziness could be contributed to the fact that she hasn't eaten anything since lunch when Will and Alicia brought her back a chicken salad which she forced down her throat in between reading and writing briefs and court hearings.
"What are you doing here?" She asks after she's pulled away from him, Kurt smirks.
"Will and Alicia called me, said you hadn't eaten since lunch, so if you couldn't come to dinner, I'd bring the dinner to you." He answers with a smile as he picks up the takeout bag, carrying it over to her coffee table. She follows him to the coffee table and sits down next to him, watching as he takes out her order of food.
She eats her food slowly, savouring the taste of it. Her husband is staring at her as she eats, the concern slowly disappearing, although not completely. She doubts her husbands concern for her will never disappear completely, just like she's sure Will will always be concerned about Alicia and her two beautiful children, it must be a husband/fiance thing.

Kurt McVeigh smiles to himself as he watches his wife yawn for the fourth time in ten minutes. She's exhausted, that much he can say with certainty. Even with Will and sometimes Alicia, taking some of the managing partner stuff off Diane, she's still got meetings, depositions, and court hearings and trial prep, and client updates, which means she's still staying at the office more than she's at home.
"You okay?" Kurt asks his wife when he sees her throw a pen down with a growl. Diane stands up from her table and throws herself down beside him on the couch, snuggling into his side.
"No!" She exclaims into his side, her voice muffled by his shirt. Kurt wraps an arm around his wife and sighs into her messed up blonde hair.
"You're exhausted, Diane, why don't you take care of this on Monday with Will and Alicia?" He suggests. Diane lifts her head to stare at him. He can see his wife's head arguing with itself about the pros and cons of leaving it the whole weekend.
His wife groans. "Ah fuck it, it's nearly Saturday and I'm exhausted, lets go." She says, standing up, slipping her heels onto her feet, grabbing her coat, bag, briefcase and his hand, leading him out of her office, stopping in front of Will's with a smile at the sight.
Curled up on Will's couch, Alicia and Will are sleeping peacefully, curled up together like puppies, is what Grace would say if she saw her mother and soon-to-be-step-father.
"Come on, let's leave them to sleep." Diane whispers, pulling on his hand to lead them to the elevator bank.

She's almost asleep by the time Kurt leads her into the bedroom, stripping off her work clothes and putting her in one of his plaid flannel shirts that hasn't been washed and still smells like him and tucking her into her side of the large bed. He turns off her beside lamp with a kiss to her lips, she gives him a sleepy smile.
"I love you." She says just as she falls asleep.
Asleep in her warm bed with her husband arms pulling her close to him, Diane Lockhart feels the most relaxed she's been in weeks, and it's all thanks to her husband.

A/N: This is shorter than Will and Alicia (divorce) but at least it's something. I have six more The Good Wife stories to write, type up, edit and publish, not to mention my CTS (carpool tunnel syndrome) is acting up, and I'm watching The Good Wife, and reading a lot and meeting up with my boyfriend so my life is stretched thin right now but I'm hoping within a few weeks my life settles down a bit more so I can update and write more regularly.
I hope you enjoy, Angels.
