Rookidee imagine themselves as invincible warriors, courageous birds capable of overcoming any challenger, no matter how much larger or stronger. In truth, these chicks are not much stronger than other regional birds such as Pidgey or Taillow, but wild pokemon are loath to take them on, for Corviknight love their children and are every bit as terrifying as a Rookidee is in its own imagination. Yet all birds must someday leave the nest, and they do so knowing no fear of other pokemon – nor any need to land, for they feast on fish as easily as they do bug pokemon. So Rookidee fly far beyond Galar's boundaries, although they have thus far proven unable to establish a permanent presence elsewhere.

In Kalos, Rookidee are unable to compete against the common and powerful Talonflame, even after completing their evolution. Those who cross the sea to Unova are revered as emissaries of Tornadus, for they fly high over fighting pokemon and need never cease to fly. Yet emissaries, invariably, must someday return home, and the grounds of Tornadus' shrine are too small to support a local breeding population.

In Hoenn, owing to their color, Rookidee are mistaken for Swablu; in Kanto and Johto, their round shape and facial markings see them confused with Hoothoot, the distinction in color meaning little at night; most claims of seeing two-legged Hoothoot, on further inspection, describe Rookidee. Sinnoh's people note the resemblance of their facial markings to Staravia, and assume one was what they saw. The few Rookidee to stray south into Alola are recognized as outsiders by locals, but many tourists mistake them for a rare Alolan pokemon, or an unusual form of Oricorio.

It is said that no Rookidee is considered worthy to evolve into Corvisquire until it has first flown around the world.
