It is strange to think that Galar's apex predator, the terror of the skies and constant competitor at the regional League, is encountered by Galarians primarily through its ubiquitous taxi service. But Galar has not always been such a safe land for travelers, and the nobles and pilgrims who moved between cities in this age would have feared to do so without a Corviknight to back them up.
The sheriffs kept order in the towns of medieval Galar, but the bandit-infested routes connecting them made Kanto at the height of Team Rocket's influence look safe. Yet the powerful pokemon such as Rapidash which marked one as a knight scared off all but the most determined highwayman. Sky bandits, however, were another matter. Despite the obvious advantages of traveling by air, for centuries it was done only in desperate circumstances, for the gangs of Corvisquire and Cramorant trainers who roamed the skies often robbed nobles of everything they had – even their armor and their pokemon.
Early Modern kings handed out elite Corviknight from the Royal Air Force to any travelers who wished to take a sky journey, for the Galarian monarchy could not truly be said to rule Galar until it commanded the skies. and even the greatest gangs of sky bandits feared to confront their blade birds in a Sky Battle. With no one left to rob, they put away their flying pokemon and turned to an honest living, or at least a less dangerous form of crime, until a trainer riding even a Swablu or Hoothoot could safely cross all Galar.
Aided by generous subsidies, the program of Corviknight taxis survives to the present day – for even in this peaceful, republican era, Galar's leaders fear that, should Corviknight ever leave its skies, the bandits will once again return.
