Cramorant hunt for food, not to accumulate weapons, but humans have long been fascinated by, and made use of, the force with which they spit undesired prey out. The term "Wooden Cramorant" for the long-necked trebuchets so common in Galarian warfare was not, as is often surmised, a soldier's nickname. It is the original term, so applied because ancient siege warfare in Galar involved trained Cramorant spitting live Voltorb or Geodude at the walls of hill-forts, in such volume that both were extirpated from the region, leaving Baltoy or Koffing to replace them.
Yet explosive pokemon tend to be round in shape, which may maximize their aerodynamic distance, but interfaces poorly with the spitting mechanism of a Cramorant's bill. Cramorant are natural piscivores, but notoriously picky eaters, willing to spit out even members of prey species such as Arrokuda in the hope of knocking out a tastier one. A few strategists even experimented with using fish pokemon as ammo, citing the much greater distances Cramorant could apply to them; unfortunately, the only water pokemon heavy enough to make for decent projectiles either live too deep beneath the surface or went extinct millions of years ago.
Although stone castles and the "Wooden Cramorant" made the real thing far less useful militarily, they were too popular a pokemon to be abandoned in the face of technology's march. Cramorant remained a presence at royal courts in a role akin to jesters, with convicted criminals and live pokemon striving to escape from their bills in a cruel form of entertainment. With the rise of competitive pokemon battles, Cramorant have welcomed the chance to fight once again, although their trainers generally believe the small size of regulation arenas does not permit them to express their true skill; still, one must beware of a Cramorant snipe!
