With their electric typing, brilliant colors, and penchant for a contemporary form of music, Toxtricity are often thought of as the quintessentially modern pokemon. But apart from artificial species like Porygon, no pokemon are truly "modern", and both the fossil record and a series of ancient admonitions demonstrate that Toxtricity, whatever their style, are no newcomers to this world.
The taboo against Toxtricity music, which these pokemon produce by strumming their own chests, was one of Galar's oldest, and survived from its first attestation almost into today's relatively tolerant age. Toxtricity, admittedly, are extremely poisonous pokemon, but poison only through direct contact. Yet in an era when "proper" music was played on steel-type instruments and patronized by kings and aristocrats, there was something far too dangerous and anarchistic about the sound of a strumming guitar. And the light shows with which Toxtricity accompany their music, before electricity was understood, was taken as evidence that their venom spreads far and wide – even through sound, so musicians feared to emulate it, lest they accidentally produce a strange auditory poison of their own.
Yet Toxtricity music, for all the edicts against it, has long fascinated listeners; more than one great composer was rumored to travel deep into the wild area late at night for the purpose of observing these pokemon. Before recording, Toxtricity music could not be safely mixed with other varieties; although they would not poison more than the front rows of an audience, they would surely poison the rest of the orchestra! Until the day when a brave and desperate musician experimented with Toxtricity samples in his song, and only revealed this fact at a point when, were this legend true, his listeners would've overwhelmed the hospitals with poisoning cases – thus removing this fear once and for all.
