Dachsbun are usually thought of, and employed as, agricultural pokemon, so travelers are often surprised to see them running in and out of fire stations. These pokemon, however, are not merely fire company mascots; they are prized for their ability to run into burning buildings to rescue the inhabitants, while suffering nothing worse than a crispy exterior in the process. Once the victims are rescued, Dachsbun can offer any who are too hungry or distraught a delicious meal.
Many fire pokemon, of course, are quite capable of withstanding extreme heat, although their own body temperatures and loose flames make them wholly inappropriate for rescue missions; a few scientists have even thought to classify Dachsbun as fire types for that ability alone. Water and rock pokemon, as more than one devastating blaze can attest, are not fully immune; furthermore, they are often too busy with putting out fires to help with rescue efforts. Attempts to employ Drednaw in Galar, which combines the two types, have met with some success – but in a fire, every moment matters, and Dachsbun's superior speed has made it the more popular rescue pokemon everywhere outside Wyndon. It is no coincidence that research into fossil pokemon like Kabutops and Carracosta is most advanced in precisely those areas where wooden buildings coexist with an abundant supply of fire types.
There was once a time – emblemized by Chi-Yu and Groudon – when all civilization burned. The survivors, who were more numerous than contemporary historians realize, consoled themselves with Dachsbun pretzels amid the ruins of a bygone age.
