The loudest noise to greet travelers upon arrival in Paldea – one wisely kept out of tourism ads, and left unmentioned by brochures – is the sound of a flock of dozens of Squawkabilly. A relative of Chatot, these pokemon are far more difficult for humans to comprehend, yet they are no less talkative; it is simply that, being far more numerous, these pokemon prefer to socialize with their own, and have never felt a need for human substitutes.
Yet one should not mistake this failure to learn human speech (a feat few pokemon have mastered) for a hostility to humanity; they are comfortable on rooftops and in human cities. It is admittedly true that they have been known to swoop down and seize food from people, but they prefer the kind that is left unattended, and only in extreme circumstances will they snatch it from an unwitting person's hand; one should be far more careful regarding berries kept in bags. One may not feel gratified to be looked upon by a pokemon species as a source of pillage, but Squawkabilly do value human survival; at times, they have dropped excess berries over poor neighborhoods, or grains from afar during famine, if only so they would have more left to seize in the future.
Perhaps it is deeds like these which have protected Squawkabilly from becoming reviled like Lokix as pests. Indeed, Paldea's famous picnics originated from banquets meant to feed these pokemon, so they are nottruly uninvited guests when they show up to swipe a sandwich, and a yellow or white one might be the closest thing many picnickers will ever see to a true shiny pokemon; one can only hope that Paldeans will never again need Squawkabilly to pay them back for this food.
