Capsakid were initially regarded as weeds (a fair assessment, given their habit of pranks) and their teeth at first assumed to be seed pods. In Ancient Paldea, long before the Treasures were Ruined, a farmer spotted this 'pod' in his lands, with neither a refuse heap nor a river in sight. Desperate to dispose of it, or simply curious about the taste, he bit down, thought it delicious, and then spit it out because he could not handle such a hot, concentrated spice.
It is a common saying in Paldea that the difference between their country and other lands is that foreigners fear Lombre, but Paldeans eat Capsakid's teeth. Such a strict dichotomy is unjustified; Lombre are not viewed as food pokemon in modern times, but in various periods in Hoenn's long history, they were either considered a delicacy or hunted during famines. It should also be noted that the Lombre, unlike their distant relative in Paldea, lack teeth. And of course, Capsakid have long been a trade good shipped to foreign lands, and tourists these days love their teeth just as much as the locals.
Yet it is undeniable that Paldea is known for both its unique cuisine and its wide variety of food pokemon, and there must have been some aspect of its ancient culture which led its farmers and agronomists to see potential even in a tiny plant's baby teeth. Every Paldean knows the story of a single desperate and brave farmer, who became a wealthy restaurateur who cooked for the king, and told everyone he met to honor the Capsakid and eat the delicious pokemon tooth which let him begin this journey. Few, however, appreciate the deliberate, longstanding, and far-sighted policy of the ancient monarchy to taste and promote any strange dishes discovered in their lands.
