The Midoriya Residence
"School was closed the day after the League of Villains attacked the USJ. I think they wanted us to have a little break. But it was pretty tough to relax." Izuku narrated.
Inside the small room was Izuku Midoriya, sitting quietly in a spinning chair. He sat in a squatting position holding onto his legs with both had been sitting there for most of the day already, depressingly staring at the laptop on his desk. Izuku stared at the black screen on his laptop hesitantly, like he was expecting it to play itself. Motioning his hand to the mousepad, he clicked on the replay button and restarted the whole video again.
Fire and smoke could be seen in the video. People were running away in fear or watching the disaster unfold in panic. The man operating the camera was filming the entire scene in shock. He simply stood there like so many other citizens, only, it was his job to do so. The cameraman reported everything he saw, further building up the frightening events. However, the focus of the video had quickly changed. Within minutes the tone presented in the reporters voice changed as more and more citizens had been rescued by an incredibly fast hero. The reporter was completely floored witnessing the events. Up above the cameraman, a lone figure was spotted soaring across the sky and landing behind the fire. This was the part Izuku had been waiting for. The part of the video that defined his reason for being a hero. The video brought him comfort as he sat there watching. The reporter in the video was just as shocked to see the lone hero walk out of the flames.
"Who is he? The guy's already saved a 100 people at least, and it hasn't even been 10 minutes. This is crazy, I can't believe it!" The cameraman shouted out in disbelief.
"HA HA HA HA." The voice laughed, his loud triumphant voice booming across the devastated landscape. The lone figure had returned, stepping onto the destroyed bus and slightly bending the metal under his own weight. The cameraman zoomed into the action and saw several bodies getting carried by the lone hero.
"Look! He's got more!" The reporter screamed in shock. The laughing hero carried several citizens on both arms, as well as on his shoulders. The amount of citizens on him was too much to carry for many strong heroes, but not him. It was like nothing could weigh him down.
"Fear not, citizens. Hope has arrived!" The lone hero shouted out at the onlookers. The camera zoomed once more unto the lone hero's face, catching the large grin forming on his face.
"Because I am here!" The hero announced, focusing on the hero's huge smile. Izuku stared at the laptop screen with a sad blank face. He watched his idol on the laptop screen and saw him save more and more citizens. What likely would've been the biggest disaster at the time ended with happiness. There were no fatalities that day. Watching All Might save people was always enough to cheer him up, but now, not so much. He frowned at the video. Instead of getting cheered up, he felt sadness penetrate his mind.
All Might saved everyone with a smile on his face. He never looked sad or showed any signs of fatigue back then. But Izuku knew this video was before he had gotten his injury. Now, he knew what the number one hero really looked like. As he thought about All Might, Izuku let out a small groan. He was the one chosen to carry One For All. The same quirk that All Might had used to fight criminals for years. Yet, he couldn't even save his own sister.
"You were so scared All Might could die that you threw away your sister like she was nothing. Throwing her onto me like that. The hell's wrong with you?" Bakugo said inside his mind.
Kacchan was right… Izuku closed his eyes as yesterday played through his mind again. The memory of Shigaraki turning towards them and running towards them had set him off. He remembered the fear he had on his face the second he realized he was heading towards Ami. As soon as he put his hand on her face, he acted. Only, instead of punching Shigaraki, the strange brain villain got in his way and took One For All at full power, leaving his body completely unaffected. Izuku winced and squeezed his grip on his pants. He didn't save Ami. Mr. Aizawa did. He did nothing.
"I'm still so far away from becoming a real hero. During the USJ attack, all my classmates and I did was slow Thirteen and Aizawa down. If it weren't for Aizawa, All Might, and the other teachers, we never would've stood a chance against those villains." Izuku thought. As he thought about the USJ, he lowered his head and frowned, clenching his fists. The video on his laptop had ended in between his brooding. It had been so long that his laptop had activated his screensaver, the bright visuals catching his attention. Izuku slowly looked up and felt his eyes burn from the bright screen. Squinting his eyes, he saw the screensaver and squeezed his hands even tighter. On the laptop screen, was a picture of him and Ami shortly after training with All Might. Ami was the one who requested All Might to take a picture of them together with her phone. She then sent it to him shortly afterwards. He stared at the photo and smiled. The grip he had on his pants loosened as he looked at the screen. Even when she wasn't here she was still cheering him up.
"I won't let that happen again." Izuku thought, squeezing his eyes shut.
Izuku unclenched his hands and slowly opened his eyes. He looked down at the floor and noticed the dumbbell beside the chair. He knew thinking about what happened wouldn't change anything. There was only one thing Izuku could do if he ever wanted to prevent a situation like that. He nodded and leaned forward, picking up the dumbbell.
"In order to truly oppose evil, I have to make All Might's power my own." Izuku thought, lifting up the dumbbell.
"I have to embody One For All and master every aspect of it, until it's second nature for me. Because…," Izuku thought, the image of All Might's injury fresh in his mind, "There isn't much time left." Izuku frowned.
"And because I'm the one he chose, I'll make him proud." Izuku thought, pumping himself up. He continued lifting the dumbbell with his recently healed arm for about a minute before his exercise was abruptly ended.
Knock Knock
Izuku sprang his head up at the sound of the door. He stopped lifting the dumbbell and looked at his door hesitantly. He checked to make sure if it was locked and saw it wasn't.
"Who is it?" Izuku asked, unsure if it was Ami or their mother. Izuku looked back at his laptop and saw the picture was still there. He quickly leaned forward and closed the laptop screen, powering down the device.
"Izuku?" Ami said, causing Izuku to relax. Hearing his sister's voice on the other side, he let out a sigh. Catching his breath, he leaned back into his chair and relaxed his arm.
"Yeah?" Izuku asked. Ami opened the door and peeked inside. Looking around the room, she noticed the laptop was off and that the room was clean. She nodded at Izuku and slowly limped inside, using her cane to balance herself. She pushed the door back and left an inch of it open, keeping it from closing with the end of her cane. Looking at Izuku, she noticed the telltale signs of emotional stress on his face. She also noticed the more obvious sweat forming on his forehead, along with the dumbbell on his previously broken hand. Ami could tell Izuku was sad about something but didn't pry. She didn't have to guess what it was about. Ignoring the signs, she focused on the dumbbell and brought a smile to her face.
"You exercising without me?" Ami asked, raising her eye. She casually leaned on the wall next to the door and waited for an answer.
"Sorry. I couldn't resist." Izuku apologized, smiling back at Ami.
"Hmph. I know how you feel." Ami said, letting out a small giggle. She closed her eyes and mentally sighed. She wanted to go back to exercising with Izuku, but she knew recovering was the best she could do. However, she didn't want to sit down all day either and instead opted for helping make food with Mom.
"Anyways, Mom and I made food. It's already on the table. You should have some before it gets cold." Ami said, smiling warmly. She gripped her cane and pulled the door back open.
"I'll be there in a second. Thanks, Ami." Izuku replied, nodding his head. Ami nodded back and limped out of the room. Izuku watched her limp out of his room and dropped his smile. He knew Ami didn't like the cane. And he knew she wanted nothing more than to get back into training again. He sniffed the air and smelled the food on the table enter his room, causing his stomach to growl. He put the dumbbell down on the floor and stared at the previously broken hand. He tensed up and turned his smile into a serious face, flexing the muscle in his healed arm.
"I'll make you proud as well, Ami." Izuku promised, nodding to himself. Seeing his sister limp like that took a toll on him. He never wanted her to go through that ever again. As he sat there, his mind flashed once more. He remembered all the times Ami was there to stop Kacchan from using his quirk on him. Even if she kept her distance, he knew Ami was there to protect him. And now he had a chance to pay her back for all those years. He smiled as he stood back up. As long as he had One For All, he'd do his best to protect her.
The Next Day - U.A. High - Class 1-A
When Ami and Izuku entered the classroom they were immediately swarmed. Upon opening the doors, the excited greetings from their classmates echoed through their ears. The twins were left unprepared against the joyful greetings of their fellow classmates. The only students that remained seated watched the scene play out with narrowed eyes.
"Ami! Izuku!" The class exclaimed.
"What's up, guys?" Kirishima smiled, excitedly raising his fist.
"Huh?" The twins replied, staring at the crowd of students in confusion. They were bewildered seeing this kind of reaction to entering the class. Izuku felt his shyness increase as well. Ami, for the most part, kept it together visually. Inside her mind, she felt a tiny bit claustrophobic in the middle of the crowd.
"It's so good to see you. Ribbit." Tsu greeted.
"I can't believe you guys did all that!" Sato said, pounding his fists together.
"Deku, you were amazing at the Shipwreck zone! And, Ami, that fire was so awesome!" Mina exclaimed.
"I can't believe you made that beam in the sky!" Sero said
"Yeah, it was really cool." The earphone girl that Ami was yet to be acquainted with said.
"We heard all about what happened at the zones you two were in." Kaminari said, causing Ami to raise an eye at the revelation, "I can't believe you made a bigger hole in the ceiling than All Might." Kaminari continued, getting several nods in agreement.
"Everyone in the USJ saw that huge beam in the sky. It was incredible." Hagakure said, somewhere in the crowd.
"Oui. It was tres magnifique." Aoyama complimented her, causing Ami to get embarrassed by the questions.
"Uh- thanks, guys. But who told you all that?" Ami asked, shyly covering her face with her hand. She raised her hand up a little and stared at the crowd, recognizing Ojiro in the back. The two made eye contact, who noticed her immediately. Ami motioned with her eyes at the crowd of students and towards him with a questioned look, causing Ojiro to nod in understanding. He looked at the crowd and slightly grinned, making a small awkward laugh.
"Don't look at me. They said the same things to me when I got here." Ojiro replied, feeling a little embarrassed.
"Everyone, settle down! Give them some space. Get!" Iida shouted, pushing the crowd away from the twins. Izuku and Ami both sighed in relief. They weren't expecting a welcome like that. Izuku was the first to recover from the welcome and nodded.
"Thanks, Iida." Izuku said, relieved. Ami uncovered her face and nodded her head in agreement.
"Good morning, Izuku. Ami. Excuse their behavior, it's my fault our classmates flooded you like that." Iida apologized, bowing in front of Ami and Izuku. The twins exchanged glances at the apology. Both wondered how much did Iida tell the class exactly.
"Everyone wanted to know how you two were after I told everyone that me and Ochaco waited for you to leave Recovery Girl's Office. They were so concerned about you two that I told them everything you told me. Though, I did leave out some details." Iida said, making an aggressive glance towards Bakugo. Bakugo caught the glare from Iida and scoffed. Shortly after Iida arrived, Bakugo was the second person to show up to class. Much to Iida's genuine shock, Bakugo made a threatening gesture with his quirk and told Iida to tell no one that he waited for the twins. A demand that Iida was forced to accept, not wanting to risk any destruction of property.
"Once we heard what happened to you, guys, we just had to see how you were doing." Kirishima explained.
"Yeah. Sorry about surrounding you guys." Kaminari apologized. The classmates that remained in their seats shook their heads at their classmates actions. Bakugo, especially, rolled his eyes and kept quiet. Todoroki, however, had listened to the story with some interest.
"It's no problem." Ami replied, giving the class a smile. Ami looked ahead and stared at her empty seat and sighed.
"Honestly, I'm just happy to be in a classroom again." Ami laughed, starting her slow limp to her desk. The class watched Ami limp over to her seat and frowned a little. Tokoyami kept his usual stoic face while Dark Shadow cried inside him. Dark Shadow didn't like seeing Ami walk like that. The whole class didn't like seeing her walk like that either. It reminded them of the physical toll the USJ Incident had on them.
When Ami approached her seat, Bakugo watched her approach. He stared at Ami and noticed she was still limping. That same feeling he had before went through his head once more. He took great effort to appear like he didn't care, however, and gave Ami a more intense glare than usual. Ami stopped moving and made eye contact with Bakugo, slightly squirming at the intense glare.
"Hi." Ami said, unsure what to say. Bakugo narrowed his eyes at the greeting and scoffed, looking the other way. Ami frowned a little and mentally sighed, feeling her heart beat faster. Seeing him look away, Ami took the chance to slip into her desk and finally got a chance to sit down for the day. She sat on her chair and sighed, relaxing into the chair. The walk to school had already tired her out. Bakugo slowly turned his head back towards Ami and remembered her saying it would take a day or two to fully recover. He was surprised to still see her with a limp. Not having any school yesterday, he thought it would have healed by now.
"How's your leg?" Bakugo asked in a low voice.
"Huh?" Ami asked, surprised to hear the question. She turned her head and looked at Kacchan and raised an eye at him. She wasn't expecting to hear that kind of question from him. Bakugo grunted quietly at her response.
"Don't make me ask twice, Habanero." Bakugo said, clenching his fist in annoyance. Ami stared at Bakugo and raised her brow in confusion.
"Was he actually concerned like the other day?" Ami thought, putting a hand on her chin. She smiled at the thought. It only proved to her that he did still think of them as friends.
"At least he isn't yelling." Ami thought.
"Okay, at least. Recovery Girl said I only had to use a cane for two days and so far it has been a day. Hopefully, I'll feel better tomorrow." Ami replied, getting a silent nod from Bakugo.
Thanks for letting us go the other day, Kacchan. I didn't realize how cold it was." Ami thanked him, getting a glare from the blond.
"Uh huh." Bakugo said, saying nothing else. Ami stared at Bakugo with a puzzled look. Kacchan was acting unusually quieter towards her than normal. Examining his face from her point of view, she noticed that he looked like he wanted to say something else.
"Is there anything else you wanted to say to me?" Ami asked, nervously. Bakugo heard the question and glared back at her for a few seconds before facing the other way. He flared his nostrils and shrugged, narrowing his eyes towards the front of the class.
"Not here." He answered.
"Oh...R-Right." Ami replied, feeling slightly nervous. As she turned her face away from Bakugo, a loose strand of hair fell between her eyes. She quickly adjusted her hair and coughed a little at the awkwardness.
"I hope All Might isn't too busy today." Ami thought. Before she could think of anything else, Hagakure's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Hey, you guys! Did you watch the news last night?" Hagakure asked, excitedly. Shoji and Ojiro turned to look at the invisible girl next to them and nodded.
"Yeah?" Ojiro replied.
"It was so cool that we got a few seconds of screen time. Though, I bet nobody noticed me hanging out in the background." Hagakure said, frowning invisibly.
"Probably not." Shoji said, bluntly.
"It is difficult to stand out when you're just gloves." Ojiro said, pointing out her attire. Ami listened in on the conversation and twisted her body around to face them.
"Aww, man. You guys were on tv?" Ami asked, disappointed she missed the chance to see her costume on television.
"Oui. The camera couldn't resist my sparkle." Aoyama nodded, joining in on the conversation.
"You were only on the screen for two seconds." Mina pointed out, causing Aoyama to melt into his desk. Mina looked down at Aoyama's sad face and felt bad.
"But they were a great two seconds." Mina said, attempting to cheer Aoyama up.
"Mhm." Aoyama nodded, springing back up his desk.
"Yeah, we're totally big deals. Those news channels love us. We're basically celebrities." Kaminari smiled, putting his hands behind his head. He reclined on his seat and looked at Kirishima behind him, who nodded at his words.
"Yeah, it's kinda crazy, right?" Kirishima agreed, remembering being recognized by citizens while coming to school.
"Get over yourselves. The hero course that pumps out pros was attacked, and that's what they care about." The earphone girl said.
"Who knows what woulda happened to us if the teachers hadn't shown up." Sero interjected, causing a few students to shudder at the thought. The most affected student to hear Sero's words was the small purple kid sitting behind Izuku. The one student Ami didn't want near her. Mineta let out a panicked scream.
"Why'd you say that? I'm gonna pee myself just thinking about it!" Mineta said, causing Ami to shake her head and sigh. Hearing his complaints made Ami wonder how he got into U.A., anyway.
"Oh, shut up! Grow a pair, loser." Bakugo shouted at Mineta, catching Ami and Izuku off guard. Ami instinctively gripped onto her desk in surprise. She quickly composed herself and glanced at Bakugo. He didn't notice the smile she had on her face, looking at him.
"There's the yelling." Ami thought, cracking a smile at Bakugo. She was happy that his anger was directly towards Mineta. Ami didn't feel any pity for Mineta.
"Hmph. Agreed." Ami mumbled, crossing her arms. She was still mad about catching Mineta staring at her ass.
"Did you guys see All Might fighting the bird guy? That dude was super strong, and he still destroyed him." Sato said, punching the air in front of him enthusiastically.
"Yes. His strength is truly a thing of wonder." Tokoyami agreed, thinking back to the fight at the USJ.
"Attention! Homeroom class is about to begin! Everyone stop talking and take your seats!" Iida demanded, taking center stage in front of the class.
"Uh, little late there, Iida?...We're already in our seats." Ami said, amused by Iida's demand. getting several nods from her classmates.
"Yeah. you're the only one standing." Sero commented. Iida looked towards the class and counted every student's head. He quickly realized he indeed was the only one standing.
"Dang it." Iida grumbled, taking a seat in his desk.
"Don't sweat it." Ochaco said, smiling at Iida.
"At least Iida's taking Class Rep seriously." Ami thought, quietly giggling.
"Hey, Tsu." Mina said, looking back at Tsu. Mina leaned back in her chair and angled herself in an attempt to look at Tsu.
"So, wh-, Mina stopped herself and panicked a little after losing balance in the seat, falling farther than intended. Tsu quickly put her hand on Mina's chair and prevented her from falling into her desk.
"Who do you think's gonna teach class today?" Mina asked, causing Tsu to ponder on the question.
"No idea. Mr. Aizawa's still in the hospital recovering from his injuries." Tsu responded, getting Ami's attention. Ami tensed up at the sight of his injury in her mind. The gruesome wound had unsettled her, especially the blood that had gotten on her.
"I hope Mr. Aizawa's doing okay…" Ami thought, feeling bad for the teacher. Ever since her near-death experience, Ami appreciated Aizawa even more than before. Before Ami could think anymore, the classroom door scraped open. Ami returned to reality and poked her head forward to see who was entering. To say she was surprised would be an understatement. Ami's eyes bulged out at the sight of Mr. Aizawa covered in bandages.
"Huh!?" Ami exclaimed, dropping her jaw.
"Morning, class." Mr. Aizawa said, his voice slightly muffled from the bandages covering his entire face.
"Mr. Aizawa, what are you doing here?!" The class exclaimed, equally shocked to see their teacher standing at the door.
"Whoa! What a pro." Kaminari said, surprised to see Aizawa. Aizawa peeked through the space between the bandages and saw his students looking at him with shock.
"Mr. Aizawa. I'm glad you're okay." Iida said, raising his hand up. He was impressed to see Mr. Aizawa enter the class despite his injuries.
"You call that, okay?" Ochaco questioned.
"My well being is irrelevant." Aizawa said, walking up to the center of the class.
"What's more important is that your fight isn't over yet." He finished, getting mixed reactions from the class.
"Our fight?" Bakugo questioned, narrowing his eyes at Aizawa.
"Don't tell me…" Izuku said, thinking dangerous thoughts.
"Wait, what does he mean?" Ami asked, getting confused and concerned at the same time.
"Not more bad guys!" Mineta said, starting to freak out. Aizawa peeked his tired eyes through the bandages once more and stared at the students' faces. He tensed his eyes and leaned forward a bit.
"The U.A. Sports Festival is about to start." Aizawa announced, causing the students' eyes to widen.
"Yes!" Kirishima said, pounding his fists on his desk excitedly.
"Ugh, why would you scare us like that?" The class exclaimed, catching their breaths. Ami heard the announcement and dropped her concerned look. Replacing her concern was the feeling of relief passing through her. That, too, immediately faded away and was replaced by excitement.
"The Sports Festival!" The class repeated.
"Let's go kick some ass!" Kirishima exclaimed, only to receive a hand on his face.
"Wait a second." Kaminari said, shutting up Kirishima.
"Is it really such a good idea to hold the Sports Festival so soon after the villains snuck inside?" The earphone girl pointed out.
"They could attack once we're all in the same place." Ojiro added.
"Apparently the administration thinks this is a good way to show that the threat has been handled and our school is safer than ever." Aizawa explained, "Plus they're beefing up security compared to past years. This event is a huge opportunity for all students of U.A." He stated, receiving a few nods in understanding.
"It's not something we can cancel because of a few villains." Aizawa added.
"Uh, I'm sorry, but why not? It's just a sports festival." Mineta asked, confused by the rush to have a festival.
"Huh? Mineta, don't you know how important this competition is?" Izuku asked, surprised to hear Mineta ask that. He twisted around in his desk and faced Mineta.
"Of course, I do. I just don't want to get murdered." Mineta whined. Izuku understood where he was coming from especially after the USJ.
"Our sports festival is one of the most watched events in the entire world. In the past, everyone obsessed over the Olympic games. But then Quirks started appearing. Now, the Olympics have been drastically reduced in terms of scale and viewership. For anyone who cares about competition. There's only one tournament that matters. The U.A. Sports Festival." Aizawa explained, causing the class to get even more excited.
"That's right. And top heroes everywhere will be watching. This is where you get scouted." Momo added.
"Sure, unless you're dead." Mineta commented. Ami heard the comment and rolled her eyes.
"She's right. After graduating, a lot of people join pro agencies as a sidekick." Kaminari explained.
"Yeah, but that's as far as some people go. They miss their chance to go indie and stay eternal sidekicks. Actually, that's probably where you're headed. You're kinda dumb." The earphone girl said. Ami listened in on the conversation and raised an eye at the girl.
"Ouch." She thought, slightly amused at the insult. Aizawa stared at the students with his tired eyes and continued.
"It's true that joining a famous hero agency can garner you greater experience and popularity. That's why the festival matters. If you wanna go pro one day, then this event could open the path for you. One chance a year. Three chances in a lifetime. No aspiring hero can afford to miss this festival. That means you better not slack off on your training." Aizawa finished explaining. The entire class understood Aizawa's advice and collectively nodded.
"Yes, sir!"
"Class is dismissed." Aizawa said, walking away. The students watched as Aizawa immediately turned around and exited the classroom, confusing the students even more.
"Did he just leave?" Sero asked the class.
"But he just got here." Ami commented, surprised to see Aizawa leave.
Lunchtime
After Aizawa left the class as quickly as he appeared, the students had formed groups and talked amongst themselves. Before that, Ami watched Bakugo exit the class without saying a word to her or Izuku and wondered where he was going. She didn't stop to follow him, though, on account of her needing a cane to limp around. Ami instead chose to sit on a random desk in the middle of two groups. Sitting on top of a desk beside her was Tokoyami and Dark Shadow. Dark Shadow popped out of Tokoyami's spine and was sitting like a bird would on the empty desk. The only reason he was opening up to the public was solely because of the attention Ami had given him. Dark Shadow was currently getting petted by Ami. Tokoyami wasn't too bothered by the attention put on his sentient quirk, but he did wish Dark Shadow wouldn't purr so loudly in public.
"Hey, Dark Shadow, when you eat something does it go to your stomach or Tokoyami's? Do you even have a stomach?" Ami asked.
"Hmm…" Dark Shadow replied, deep in thought. He shrugged his shoulders and didn't respond to the question verbally. Ami shrugged and continued petting the shadow while Kirishima, Sero, and Sato sat next to them.
"That villain stuff sucked, sure, but I'm pumped for these games!" Kirishima exclaimed, clenching his fists.
"We put on a good show, and we're basically on the road to being pros!" Sero added, thinking of all the fans he could get.
"Yeah, this is why I'm even here in the first place." Sato agreed, pounding his fist in excitement.
"We get so few chances. We have to make the most of this." Tokoyami nodded, getting a nod from Dark Shadow.
"What he said." Dark Shadow agreed.
"Definitely. I just hope this isn't in a day or two from now. I still have to recover with this cane." Ami frowned, picking up her cane with her other hand.
"How are you doing with that anyway?" Sero asked, concerned about Ami's condition. The group heard the question and nodded, curious about her condition as well. Ami shrugged and brushed it off.
"I'm not as tired like yesterday. I practically slept the day away. I only woke up to make dinner with mom." Ami admitted, scratching the top of Dark Shadow's head.
"Oh, man, Ojiro, I'm getting kind of nervous about the festival. I have to come up with a way to get noticed!" Hagakure exclaimed, getting the group's attention. Ojiro looked at the floating school uniform in front of him and scratched at his neck in confusion.
"Uh, sure. Maybe you should try looking at a shinier costume or something? Otherwise, you're gonna have to try really hard." Ojiro answered, unsure what to say to the invisible girl. Ami listened to her panic and felt bad. It was hard to imagine having a quirk like Hagakure's.
"My, what's a boy to do? I stand out even when I'm standing still. That means the scouts won't be able to take their eyes off me!" Aoyama said, twirling around and striking fashionable poses. Ami saw Aoyama's antics and smirked at his optimism.
"Don't you agree?" Aoyama asked, looking at Koda. Koda shyly waved his hands around and kept quiet, looking a little camera shy.
"At least he's confident." She thought, making a tiny laugh. She looked around the room and saw the enthusiasm present on all of her classmates faces. The sports festival was, quite possibly, her best chance at getting noticed by many heroes. Heroes she looked up to, especially. A few heroes came to mind at that thought.
"Hey, Ami." Izuku said, walking up to Ami's group.
"Oh, hey, Midoriya." Kirishima waved.
"Hey, Izzy." Ami greeted, smiling at her brother.
"this is gonna be nuts, don't you think? Everyone's so excited about the festival." Izuku stated, getting nods from Ami's group. Iida heard the comment from Izuku and quickly turned around and made contact.
"Well, yeah, of course we are. We enrolled at this school with the sole aim to become heroes. So, naturally, we're all getting fired up." Iida said, showing off his excitement in the form of a strange wiggle dance.
"Wow, Iida, those are some interesting moves. Ribbit" Tsu said, watching Iida dance.
"You have to be excited, too, right, Midoriya?" Iida asked.
"Yeah." Ami agreed, looking at Iida.
"Well, yeah, of course I am. And also nervous." Izuku said.
"Deku. Ami. Iida." A voice behind Iida said. The three of them heard the familiar voice and squinted their eyes in confusion.
"Huh? Wha-" Before Izuku could finish his sentence, he turned around and made eye contact with Ochaco's deep serious stare. The intense stare made Izuku even more nervous and red in the face.
"Let's do our best in the sports festival." Ochaco said.
"Umm..." Ami said, unsure of what to say.
"Uraraka, what happened to your face?" Izuku asked, nervously.
"Seriously, what's up? You're normally, like, the most laid back girl ever?" Mina asked, surprised by Ochaco's sudden seriousness. A few seats back, Mineta listened into the conversation with a blush on his face.
"PMS-" Mineta said before instantly getting slapped in the face by Tsu's tongue.
"Everyone! I'm gonna do my best!" Ochaco shouted, attempting to hype up the group.
"Yeah!" Izuku said, raising his fist up.
"Yeah!" Iida said, copying Izuku. Ochaco had enough of them and quickly moved on. She looked at the other group next to Ami and gave the same intense glare that she had before.
"I said, I'm gonna do my best!" Ochaco shouted, looking at Tokoyami and the others.
"Got it…" Kirishima said, hesitantly raising his fist up.
"Uhh…" Sato said, unsure if raising his fist up was the right answer.
"I believe it." Dark Shadow said, giving Ochaco a thumbs up.
"Geez, Uraraka, relax." Ami commented, motioning with her hand for her to tone it down.
"You okay? You kinda look like you're losin' it?" Kirishima asked, not sure if Ochaco was feeling okay. Ochaco kept up her seriousness and made one last push to hype up the class. Izuku watched her try and started thinking about her.
"Now that I think about it. There's something I've been meaning to ask her." Izuku thought.
U.A. Halls
"Hey, Uraraka?" Izuku asked.
"What's up?" Ochaco replied, facing Izuku.
"Why did you decide to come to U.A.? What made you want to be a pro hero?" Izuku asked, curiously. Ami looked at the two of them and couldn't help but wonder the same thing. Ochaco stopped walking and felt like she was caught in headlights. It was a question she wasn't expecting to hear.
"Oh...Well...Because-" Ochaco hesitated answering Izuku. She wasn't sure whether to be honest or not about her motivation. However, seeing his curious smile made her change her mind. Ochaco told the group why she wanted to become a hero and received the expected response.
"Uh- for the money? You wanna be a hero so you can get rich?" Izuku questioned, surprised to hear the answer he got from Ochaco.
"Well that wasn't what I was expecting to hear." Ami admitted, causing Ochaco to get nervous.
"If we're cutting to the chase, then, yeah." Ochaco said, rubbing her hair in embarrassment.
"I'm sorry if it sounds greedy. You and Iida have such admirable motivations. I hope you don't think less of me now." Ochaco apologized, covering her face in embarrassment.
"Not at all. Your goal is to support your well being, which is a perfectly admirable ambition to have." Iida said, chopping the air in several directions.
"Yeah. There's no shame in that." Ami said, agreeing with Iida.
"It's just kinda surprising." Izuku responded.
"Hmm. Well, you see, my family owns a construction company. But we haven't gotten any work lately so we're flat broke. Anyway, this isn't something I usually tell other people but…" Ochaco said, messing with her hair.
"Construction, eh?" Iida said.
"If she got licensed, I bet she could use her quirk to bring costs down a lot." Izuku said, thinking of her quirks use..
"And they could sell their heavy-lifting equipment…" Iida pointed out.
"Yeah, she can just float everything." Ami nodded, understanding their argument. Ochaco was surprised to hear the responses he got from the twins and Iida, but nevertheless, agreed with their ideas.
"I know right. I've been telling dad that since I was a kid. But…" Ochaco said, thinking back to her childhood.
"You want to work for us?" Ochaco's dad asked. Ochaco looked up at her mom and dad and nodded.
"When I grow up all big and strong, I'll help you and Mommy out any way that I can." Ochaco said, running up to her father. Ochaco's dad looked down at her and smiled, kneeling down in front of her.
"I really appreciate the thought, Ochaco. But as your dad, I'd be even happier if you achieved your own dream. That's the way to make us happy." Ochaco's dad said, rubbing Ochaco's hair.
"And if you do make money you can take us to Hawaii or something." Ochaco's dad said, stretching his arms out. Ochaco looked up at her father and sniffled. She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. The childhood memory of hers made her grip on to her skirt with both hands.
"I'm gonna become a pro. I'll sign with a good agency and make plenty of money. Then I'll be able to let my parents have an easy life." Ochaco said, sure of herself. Iida and the twins stared at Ochaco in surprise. They stood there for a few seconds before Iida broke the silence by uproariously applauding.
"That's beautiful. So noble! Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!" Iida said, applauding her goals.
"That's really sweet, Ochaco." Ami complimented her, feeling tears well up in her eyes. She joined Iida and clapped alongside him, Ochaco looked up at the two students and felt her shyness fade away. She really appreciated the positive reaction coming from her friends. Izuku stared at her and clapped along with Ami and Iida, thinking about her the whole time.
"She's not here because of some hero fantasy. She's more grounded than any of us." Izuku thought.
"HAHAHA." A loud voice laughed through the halls, immediately grabbing the group's attention.
"Huh?" Ami questioned, recognizing the laugh. She looked behind Ochaco and saw All Might poking his head out of another hallway corner.
"Young Midoriya's is here!" All Might announced, pointing at the twins.
"Whoa, All Might! What are you doing here?" Izuku asked, surprised to see All Might had found them.
"Great timing, too." Ami mentioned, thinking about what they needed to tell him.
"Lunch! Ya wanna eat with me?" All Might offered, holding a small sack of food in his hand.
"That's adorable." Ochaco said, spitting up liquid.
"Whaddaya say?" All Might asked. Ami and Izuku exchanged glances towards each other. The same thought had entered both of their minds.
"This is it, Izzy." Ami thought, getting a slow nod from Izuku, "Now's the time we tell him."
"Sure thing." Izuku said.
"Yeah, okay." Ami replied.
Cafeteria
At the Cafeteria room, Iida and Ochaco waited in line to grab some lunch. While they were waiting in line, Ochaco started thinking about Izuku. She was a little curious about All Might approaching him in the halls like he did.
"I wonder what All Might wanted with Deku?" Ochaco wondered, getting Iida's attention.
"Remember what he told us during the bus ride? He tried to stop the villains himself that were attacking All Might. Perhaps that's what this is about?" Iida theorized.
"Oh yeah." Ochaco replied, remembering what Izuku had told them on the bus.
"Also remember what Asui said on the bus? Since their quirks are so similar to each other it's possible that All Might's taken a liking to him. How lucky." Iida assumed.
"Mhm. But why did he invite Ami?" Ochaco asked.
"Well they are twins. It's only fair." Iida said, coming up with a reasonable justification. Unbeknownst to the two of them, another student was eavesdropping on their conversation. A couple students in front of them in the line, Todoroki had heard their conversation and listened in. He was curious about the twins after hearing what Iida told the class earlier that day. Hearing that Izuku got approached by All Might during lunchtime had caused him to think. A lot.
"All Might and Izuku Midoriya, huh?" Todoroki questioned.
Teacher's Lounge
"Only 50 minutes?" Izuku repeated.
"But- that's so little…" Ami frowned, shocked to know the damage All Might had placed on his muscle form.
"Yeah. That's about how long I can use my power now. I overdid it too many times. That Nomu was a real tough customer. He took a lot out of me. At this point, I can barely even look like All Might for an hour and a half…" All Might explained, drinking a cup of tea. Izuku and Ami looked down at the floor in shame. He clenched his fists and worked up the strength to speak.
"I'm so sorry, I should've just-"
"Bahahaha. You don't need to apologize for anything! Man, we are alike, you and me." All Might said, laughing at his apology.
"C'mon, have some tea, you two." All Might suggested, handing them a cup of tea.
"Thanks." The twins said. Ami grabbed hold of the tea and took a drink of it.
"The reason I brought you guys to the teachers lounge was so I could talk about the festival. Ami, you showed great promise in the training exercise so I'm sure you'll do great in the festival. But for young Midoriya, here…"
"What about me?" Izuku wondered.
"The problem is you still can't fully control One For All yet. Everytime you use my power, you either break an arm or a leg, sometimes both. So then, what's your plan?"
"..."
"Hey, wait, All Might. Remember when Izzy punched the bird guy? He didn't break his arm that time." Ami said, instantly regretting saying that.
"Oh, yeah, that's right. Well, what was different about that smash?" All Might asked, blindly. Ami heard the question and felt herself tighten her hands up. In her mind, the image of Shigaraki's hand flashed through her. Izuku heard Ami's movements and glanced at her, noticing how uncomfortable she was. All Might looked at Ami and noticed her saddened expression. He was confused for a second before he quickly realized the reason for her sudden discomfort.
"Crap," All Might thought, "Good going, All Might." All Might thought, mentally kicking himself.
"I'm sorry, young Ami. You don't have to answer that." All Might apologized. Ami looked up and shook her head, recovering.
"No. It's okay. It was just really scary." Ami said, brushing her hair, "You can answer him, Izzy." Ami said, looking at Izuku. Izuku stared into her eyes and hesitated for a moment. The details of that event were ingrained in his head.
"It happened so fast. I didn't have time to think at all. I saw him reaching out for Ami, so I reacted instantaneously. But maybe, I didn't break anything then since I knew it wasn't more training."
"I'm sure you're aware that I have a powerful quirk. It's called Black Hole. I can use it to suck up anything and turn it into dust. But my quirk could also very easily be used to kill."
This was the first time I ever used my power with the intent to use it on a person. I'm sure that's why it felt different." Izuku said, sure of himself. Ami looked at Izuku and nodded in agreement. It made sense to her that he'd use One For All to defend her from a villain.
"Hm… Sounds like you succeeded in subconsciously putting on the brakes so you wouldn't have to kill anyone." All Might nodded in understanding, thinking it over.
"Hey, that's some kinda progress at least." All Might said, receiving a nod from the twins.
"Your tea's getting cold." All Might pointed out.
"Oh, right, thank you." Izuku said, grabbing his cup of tea. Ami watched Izuku pick up his tea and knew this was it. She gently nudged Izuku's shoulder and grabbed his attention. Izuku looked at Ami and saw the serious expression on her face. He knew what it meant and it made him noticeably nervous.
"Um, All Might. We have to tell you something." Izuku said. All Might looked at the twins and noticed they started tapping their feet on the ground and were holding the same nervous expression. That nervous look was definitely a shared trait between the two. He nodded at them and grabbed his cup of tea.
"Okay, what is it?" All Might asked, curiously. He was definitely curious about their sudden strange behavior. He took a slow drink of his tea and waited for their question.
"Kacchan knows my quirk is yours." Izuku stated, causing All Might's eyes to burst. He gagged at his tea and quickly spit it out.
"He knows what?"
Author's Notes: Thank you all for waiting for me to start writing season 2 again. As promised yesterday here's chapter 2! Because of that, I probably missed a few details or grammar I forgot to correct. Either way, thank you for reading.
Pretty soon from now, 15 days, season 5 of My Hero Academia will finally arrive. As a currently anime-only fan, I am especially excited to see the new season. I'm sure everyone in this fandom is as well. As for this story, the next chapter will focus on episode 2.
In the meantime, I hope to see more reviews than in the previous season. I really would like to know what more people think about the story. There is so much we can learn from eachother and I like answering questions. I'd also like to see in your reviews the hopes you have for season 2.
Given the simplicity of adding a twin sister into the show canon, things were never going to stray too far from the show. I knew that eventually this would be unavoidable. That is essentially why I'm experimenting with adding new characters and bringing back a villain from the Fire Zone. As far as setup goes, they will have their purpose and the ocs will not impact the story too much. But bare with me here, the OCs I bring up later will tie into the arc after the sports festival. I still believe in following the show as much as possible, the characters I add now are simply here to spice things up and set up the future. This will especially be needed when I reach the arc after the sports festival. As of right now, unless I receive ideas from you readers, Ami cannot realistically fit into the Hero Killer Stain fight. I have a plan to put her in the city during the Nomu attack but I got nothing for her actually entering the fight with Stain. I am open to ideas so feel free to say them in the reviews.
The same goes with the first film, too. As we all know, Two Heroes takes place between season 2 and 3. Now since I am going to be writing for the movies I'm not sure whether or not I should put the movie in as a separate story or not. I don't wanna create confusion if I do release it separately since the people following this story wouldn't know about it unless you check my stories page. At least I think that's how the app works. But, I don't know. Should Two Heroes be included as chapters in this story or take its own story? To add more clarity to this question, the movie will be mentioned more in my story than in regular canon.
To answer the reviews I have now about Ami's hero name. Ami's hero name will not be Habanero. As funny as it would be to have her hero name be Habanero I don't think it makes sense as the kind of hero she wants to be. Habanero can't really be compared to Deku because Habanero isn't an insult. Plus, unlike Deku, Ami was never annoyed with being called Habanero simply because she likes it more than Flame Breath. The same would apply with a threatening hero name. Ami doesn't want people to look at her and be afraid of her quirk. She also wants to be approachable by children and adults. So, for the time being, I think using the name of her quirk as her hero name would work. If you want Flame Catcher to be her hero name please tell me in the reviews.
As for the sports festival, I'm barely scratching the surface of it now with what I have written so far. This arc will most certainly be the hardest to write about as of now so I will be taking my time this season. This doesn't mean I'm not gonna try my hardest to get these out before season 5 ends. That is pretty much all I have to say for now. At least, I hope it is. I will be reading your reviews with eager anticipation. Remember to be specific and point out any issues that I missed in your reviews. I am only one person so writing alone is hard. Thank you so much everyone for taking time out of your day to follow this story. Here's hoping for a good 5th season! Thanks for reading and have a good day!
