"What a showing! Shoto Todoroki has taken the lead from Ami Midoriya!" Present Mic, announced. The audience cheered harder at the explosive events inside the obstacle course. The audience was blown away by the quick takedown Shoto performed on the zero pointer, hyping up the crowd even more. Among the audience of heroes, Backdraft and the stoic hero stared at the jumbotron with wide eyes. The stoic hero cracked a grin at the action.
"That kid's got an impressive ice quirk. But it almost looked like he heated up after doing that move, too." The stoic hero pointed out, causing Backdraft to glance at him.
"That's because he did." Backdraft clarified.
"Oh?" The stoic hero replied, raising an eyebrow.
"Shoto Todoroki. That's the son of Endeavor." Backdraft revealed, getting a surprised reaction from the stoic hero.
"The number 2 hero?" The stoic hero asked, getting a nod from Backdraft. The stoic hero stared at Todoroki and watched him with interest.
"Thought that last name sounded familiar." The stoic hero commented. As he watched the ongoing scene, the flames emitted underneath the loose fabric on his shoulder watched the event as well.
Inside the obstacle course, the students watched as the zero pointer collapsed under the freezing temperatures produced by Todoroki's ice. The one-hit-KO was enough to send most of the students into shock. Some simply chose to stare in disbelief. Parts of the frozen ice that took down the zero pointer had spread to cover some of the other zero pointers surrounding the dead bot, temporarily paralyzing them. Standing between the army of zero pointers and the collapsed robot was Ami Midoriya. Ami stared at the destroyed zeropointer in front of her in disbelief. She started to pant a little as she caught her breath. Shortly after her burst of anger from nearly getting hurt by flying debris, Ami's anger subsided and left her with shock. She couldn't believe the zeropointer was taken down so easily.
"I can't believe it. One wave of his hand and the zeropointer was frozen solid. If he has that much power in his ice, then his fire must burn brighter than mine." Ami theorized.
She wondered if his fire worked like her own. Whereas, he needs environmental flames in order to boost his quirk. She quickly shook away that theory though, not finding it likely Todoroki's quirk would let him get a boost in power from his environment.
"Hey!"
"There's someone trapped under that robot!" A student exclaimed, causing a chill to go down Ami's spine. Ami stared down at the largest piece of the downed zero pointer and gasped.
"What?" Ami exclaimed, feeling her heart stop. Ami looked at the dead bot and clenched her fists. The thought that someone was down there was enough to scare her. It reminded her of her own near death experience with the zero pointer in the entrance exam. Her mind raced as she thought about what to do and whether melting the bot down would help in the situation. She quickly prayed that whoever was down there was okay. Fortunately, the universe seemed to answer her prayer as a section of the dead bot started to bend upward.
Ami let out another gasp as ice and metal debris blasted up in the air, revealing the person who was crushed. Ami looked up at the emerging figure shouting out at the sky and felt a pressure leave her.
"I'm alive!" Kirishima shouted, hardening his face and arms with his quirk.
"Kirishima from Class 1-A! What a hardcore debut for this rookie!" Present Mic commentated, receiving rounds of applause by the audience. Several of the teachers and heroes wiped worried sweat off their foreheads upon seeing the red haired teen.
"Todoroki, I can't believe you pulled something like that. Jeez. Anyone but me woulda been killed!" Kirishima said, rising out of the robotic carcass.
"Eijirou Kirishima. Quirk: Hardening! This power makes his entire body hard as a rock! That means he can be the ultimate shield, or a devastating weapon!" Present Mic announced.
Just as Present Mic introduced Kirishima's quirk to the audience, another section of the dead zero pointer cracked and bent upward. An equally large portion of ice and metal blasted into the air next to Kirishima, getting both his and Ami's attention.
"Class 1-A really is full of jerks!" A voice called out, popping out of the dead robot covered head to toe in shiny metallic skin. Despite being covered in steel, the teens face had rage plainly on it.
"I'll smash that ice guy when I get my hands on him." the angry teen shouted.
"Tetsutetsu from Class 1-B was also stuck underneath! What are the odds?" Present Mic commentated, receiving an equal amount of applause.
"You know anyone other than me would've been killed." Tetsu pointed out, straightening his body.
"Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu. Quirk: Steel! This makes his entire body hard as steel. So he can be the ultimate shield, or a devastating weapon!" Present Mic announced.
"Our quirks are basically the same! How am I supposed to stand out now?" Kirishima whined, running up the dead robot's body with tears in his eyes.
"You damn copycat!" Tetsu shouted at him, running up beside him. Ami looked up at the two students and sighed, feeling her heartbeat resume.
"Oh, man. At least it was those two that got crushed by the robot." Ami said, feeling like her prayers were answered.
"The hell are you looking at, Habanero?" Bakugo questioned, standing behind Ami. Ami's eyes widened upon recognizing the voice and jumped, turning around to face the blonde.
"Kacchan. Don't scare me like that." Ami said, raising her fist up. Bakugo ignored her complaint and looked up at the deceased robot with an annoyed expression.
"Tch. You lit the damn tunnel on fire and still let Todoroki get past you. Nice going, you moron." He scoffed, getting an unamused reaction from the green haired girl.
"Hey, it's not like I was expecting to deal with zero pointers in front of me. To top it off, he one shot the zero pointer and nearly killed me!" Ami shouted back. Bakugo raised an eyebrow at her and scoffed.
"Like I care." Bakugo grunted, rolling his eyes. He looked up at the ice and the deceased zero pointer and clenched his teeth.
"Don't pretend like you don't." Ami whined, glaring back at Bakugo.
"Shutup." Bakugo said, walking past Ami. He stared at the dead robot's body and tensed his muscles. He had enough time talking with Habanero.
"Between your fire and that damn ice, I don't know who's more annoying." Bakugo snarled, stretching his hands out. Ami raised an eye at him and scoffed.
"Really? How 'bout letting me eat some of your explosions and find out." Ami offered, getting Bakugo to glare back at her.
"Try it and you're dead, Habanero!" Bakugo threatened, preparing himself into position. Ami quickly rolled her eyes at his response and backed down.
"It was a long shot anyway." Ami sighed, shrugging her shoulders.
"He's got fire but he never really uses it. Any chance you might know why, Kacchan?" Ami wondered, hoping to get any info from the blond.
"I don't know, but it's annoying." Bakugo replied, looking up at the other zero pointers. Ami watched Bakugo flex his hands before igniting them in a big explosion.
He blasted off into the sky and made consecutive explosions from both his hands, propelling himself up towards the second zero pointer. The second zero pointer saw the explosive teen on its retina and raised its fist towards the teen.
"No way am I letting Todoroki beat me." Bakugo thought, glaring at the robot. He stared at the approaching fist and blasted off towards the right side, dodging the fist. He smiled as he blasted his way to the top of the robots head, easily sticking the landing.
"Class 1-A's Bakugo is rocketing over the obstacles! Clever!" Present Mic commentated, making a finger gun with his hand.
"Smart move." Backdraft complimented, watching the explosive teens performance.
Bakugo stood tall atop the robot and let out a satisfied grunt. Ami watched him from below and shook her head. She thought about rocketing herself over the robot with her quirk but didn't want to risk losing all her fire. Above her head, she watched two figures rise above her and recognized them immediately as Sero and Tokayami.
"I figured you'd just try to blast your way through these things with your quirk. I'm impressed." Sero commended, vaulting up the robot with the tape attached on his elbow.
"I'll hitch a ride on my shadow." Tokoyami said, reaching the top using Dark Shadows' body to launch himself.
"Hanta Sero. His quirk: Tape! He can shoot tape-like material from his elbows, stick it to objects or wrap things up. You should see the traps he makes when he rips it off!" Present Mic announced.
"Let's land." Tokoyami ordered.
"Aye. Aye." Dark Shadow said, extending his arms out towards the robot. Present Mic announced Tokoyami's quirk to the audience, receiving rounds of applause from the crowd. Backdraft and the stoic hero clapped at the students on the jumbotron.
"Heh." The stoic hero laughed, cracking a grin at Tokoyami's quirk.
"Ugh. And I had such a good start, too." Ami whined, watching as Sero, Bakugo, and Tokoyami passed her. Up where the faculty section was in the stadium, All Might and the other teachers watched the screen through the jumbotron.
"Looks like all the pack leaders are from Class 1-A. At least for now." Snipe commented, getting a nod from All Might.
"It's not that 1-B and the other students are doing poorly. It's just…" All Might said.
"Class 1-A's learned not to hesitate." Aizawa said, watching his students perform against the robots. Iida drop kicked a three pointer to the ground, Jiro short circuited two robots with her earphone jacks, and Kaminari jumped on the arm of a three pointer and electrocuted it to death.
"They've seen what the real world is like. They've felt the fear of facing villains." Aizawa said, watching Kirishima run as fast as he can. Ochaco released three robots floating in the air and onto the ground while running by, and Ojiro tail whipped a robots head off.
"Yet they fight on, trying to overcome that fear. They've grown. All of them. And they know that they have to act quickly if they want to stay alive." Aizawa said, watching the Midoriya twins face off against robots. In the stands, Backdraft watched the jumbotron with deep interest and anticipation for what the boy would do. Izuku ran towards the three pointer staring straight at him with a serious face.
"I can't rely on One For All this early in the competition." Izuku thought, jumping away from the three pointer's punch. Izuku looked around the course for anything nearby and gasped at the sight of shrapnel.
"A piece of the robot Todoroki knocked down!" Izuku observed, changing directions. He charged towards the shrapnel while the three pointer easily turned and attempted to swipe him from behind. He quickly grabbed the shrapnel from the ground and kept on running. He quickly took notice of the robot's stubbornness.
"This thing won't let up." He grunted, "It must have me targeted. It's moving so quickly. Which means it can't stop fast. Or avoid an attack!" Izuku realized, quickly facing the three pointer. He stared intently at the incoming fist of the three pointer and swiped at its elbow using the sharp end of the shrapnel. The hit sent pieces of its circuits and armor scattering across the ground. The three pointer was caught completely by surprise by Izuku's clean cut.
Up in the stands, the heroes applauded the move by Izuku. All Might watched with a smile on his face, clapping along with the other faculty members.
"Nice one!" Backdraft exclaimed, raising his arm into the air.
"He may be quirkless but he sure has guts." The stoic hero smiled, clapping rapidly.
"Go. Keep running! I'll keep this and use it as a shield if I need to!" Izuku thought, running with the shrapnel in his grasp. As he ran, he noticed movement on his peripheral vision and turned his head to the right. His eyes widened when he saw another three pointer coming right towards him.
"From the right? No time to fight. Duck!" Izuku thought, quickly reacting to the approaching three pointer. He skidded against the ground and held the shrapnel tightly against his chest, falling onto the floor. Like in slow motion, Izuku watched as the three pointer flew above him and narrowly dodged his body. He watched as the three pointer landed head first into the ground to his left, dismembering its own head on the dirt.
"That was close." Izuku sighed, trying to get up with the shrapnel in his hand.
VRRR.
"Wah." Izuku panicked, seeing the damaged three pointer from before appearing above his head. The three pointer beeped at him and raised its left arm up and readied a punch. Izuku held up his shrapnel and shielded himself against the robot's fist. But before the robot's arm could make impact with Izuku's shield, a ball of fire impacted the robot's left arm. The power of the fireball knocked the arm right off the three pointer's body, leaving him completely limbless. The robot rolled back on its treads and checked its systems. The robot had no idea what to do.
.
"Fire?" Izuku said, looking at the burning left arm on the floor.
"But that means…"
"Hahaha." Ami laughed, walking up to Izuku. Izuku raised his head up and faced the direction of the voice and smiled. Ami walked up to Izuku with a grin on her face and smoke flying out of her mouth. Ami approached her brother with her right hand raised. She opened her mouth and breathed in, directing the flames on the robot's decapitated left arm towards her right hand.
The three pointer looked at the green haired girl and twisted it's head in confusion. Then an internal beep rang out in its head, alerting the three pointer. It ran a diagnostic through its head and found the problem.
Multiple leaks detected.
The robot scanned, looking at the oil secreting from the holes where its limbs used to be. Izuku looked at the oil flowing out of the robot's body and gasped.
"I forgot how flammable these guys can be. Just like the entrance exam. Which means, I get a free refill." Ami joked, forming a twisted smile on her face. Izuku could tell she was getting way too into robot examined the heat coming off Ami's mouth and watched flames shoot out of her mouth and fly towards it. The robot flexed gears inside its body and attempted to shield itself with its arms only to realize its arms were still gone. The robot stared back at Ami and was immediately blasted in fire. The oil leaking off its body ignited and triggered miniature explosions inside its body. The robot's eye made one last scan of the temperature before it's vision slowly melted away.
"What a save!" Backdraft applauded, completely impressed.
"Ami Midoriya! Her quirk: Flame Catcher! She can breathe fire through her mouth and collect fire from her surroundings! The fire she collects can either go in her mouth or to her hands!" Present Mic announced.
The robot's systems finally shut off, but not before it's whole body exploded into flaming bits and pieces. The amount of fire on the three pointer was enough to please Ami, her sadistic smile widened. She inhaled the flames rising off the robot's body and felt the heat enter her mouth.
"This is what you meant by plenty of opportunities, isn't it, Principal Nezu?" Ami asked out loud.
"That was great, Ami." Izuku said, getting off of the ground. Ami turned around and remembered who she was saving and talked with flames still in her mouth.
"Hey, Izzy." Ami said, waving at him, "How ya doin?" She asked.
"I'm doing fine." Izuku laughed. As he stood up a pack of students ran by the twins prompting them to start running as well. The twins ran side-by-side with each other, looking at one another. Izuku noticed Ami was running with flames flying out of her mouth while Ami noticed Izuku was carrying a large piece of shrapnel in his arms, raising her curiosity.
"Ami, you're running with your flames. You really improved your quirk." Izuku said, getting a quick nod from Ami.
"I practiced on the track with Iida. I can run and breathe fire all day now. How about you? Why are you carrying that?" Ami exaggerated, keeping her flames inside her mouth.
"I'm keeping it as a shield just in case for now." Izuku answered, getting a nod from Ami.
"Smart." Ami complimented, keeping her head up.
"This is where I was a second ago." Ami said, looking at the zero pointers. The twins stopped running and stared up at the army of zero pointers and caught their breaths. Ami was surprised to see that more had shown up between the time she ran back to Izuku.
"There's so many of them." Ami said, counting in her head the number of robots.
"There's gotta be a way around them. C'mon." Izuku said, continuing to run towards the robots. Ami ran after Izuku and narrowed her eyes. For now, she'd stick with Izuku for the obstacle course. The school never said they couldn't work together after all.
BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.
The twins along with several other students gasped at the sight of the explosions punching huge holes into the zero pointers armor. The zero pointer that was shot in the head fell backwards into the ground, taking down several other zero pointers like dominos. Ami's eyes popped out of her skull watching the amazing takedown.
"Woah." Ami muttered, watching dirt fly into the air from the zero pointer's impact. They heard the sound of smoke coming off metal beside them and immediately turned their heads to the left. The twins' eyes widened even more upon seeing Yaoyorozu standing next to a cannon. Her shirt was open from the size of the cannon, causing Ami to hope Mineta wasn't around to see her chest.
"Yaoyorozu." Izuku said.
"Piece of cake." Yaoyorozu said, leaving her cannon behind. The twins looked ahead as did the other students and saw a path had opened amidst the fallen zero pointers.
"The path is clear!" Sato said, running by the fallen robots. The twins immediately sprinted towards the open path and watched Yaoyorozu run with a determined look.
"She beat a zero pointer so easily!" Izuku said, looking back at the fallen robot.
"The vice rep is amazing." Ami complimented, watching her run away.
"No wonder she got in on recommendations!" Izuku acknowledged, getting a quick nod from Ami.
"But she might want to zip it up before you know who sees." Ami commented, getting a slightly embarrassed nod from Izuku. He knew who she was talking about. However, unbeknownst to the twins, Mineta had already seen Yaoyorozu and suddenly his motivation spiked.
Back up in the stands, the audience applauded the student's skillful take down of the zero pointers and clapped loudly. The teachers watching on the jumbotron were also impressed by the girl's cannon attack.
"You're better off dodgin' those big fellas most of the time. But if you gotta take 'em down, they're just slow, dumb hunks a' metal, pretty easy to hit. Long as you land a smart shot, that is." Snipe commented.
All Might listened to what Snipe had to say and nodded along. His attention was focused on the twins. Watching them on the jumbotron, he smiled at the events prior. All Might felt proud seeing the twins working together. He also smiled seeing the progress Ami had made with her own quirk. He remembered watching her running on the track one time while she wasn't looking. Seeing her now, he could tell the two weeks of practice paid off. Switching his attention to Izuku, his words replayed in his head.
"Introduce yourself to the world and proudly say, I am here!"
"I've asked so much of you, Young Midoriya. You don't have to come in first. Just get to the next round!" All Might prayed internally. Down in the hero section of the stands, Backdraft and the stoic hero applauded the twins' efforts as well as the defeat of the zero pointer's.
"Those two know how to work together. It's probably how they managed to survive the USJ incident." the stoic hero thought, watching the twins running on the jumbotron.
"For those of you who thought the first obstacle was easy. Let's see how ya feel about the second one." Present Mic smiled. Ami and Izuku stared at the second obstacle with anxiety plastered on their faces. It was probably not a good idea to look down a canyon sized hole in the ground.
"This is the second obstacle?" Ami asked, questioning the size of the massive hole in the ground. The twins looked down the massive hole and gulped. The bottom was so deep they couldn't even see it. It was definitely terrifying to look at.
"If they wanna pass this test, they'll have to get creative. It's, The Fall!"
"When did they even have time to build something like this?" Ochaco questioned, staring down the massive hole in the ground. Tsu stepped up beside Ochaco and hid the nervousness in her body. She reached the edge of the cliff and crouched down, confusing Mina Ashido.
"What are you doing?" She questioned, watching Tsu curiously. Tsu took no time to answer and simply let her actions speak for herself. She bent her legs upward and bounced into the air, landing on the rope connecting the cliff to the opposite end of The Fall.
"Ribbit." Tsu said, grabbing hold of the rope with both arms and legs. Not wasting a second, she quickly started balancing on the rope, crawling along it with ease.
This is my moment. Easy peasy." Tsu said, keeping her eyes from looking down.
"She's fast." Ashido complimented, impressed by Tsu's skill.
"Yes. Finally." A voice said, chuckling behind them. Mina and Ochaco both turned around to face the source of the voice and were surprised by the sight they saw. Standing in front of them was a pink haired girl with strange goggles on and all sorts of odd gear attached to their body.
"This is my chance to show off what I can do. My support items are gonna steal the spotlight from these wannabe heroes." The pink haired girl said, snickering to herself.
"Everyone! Observe what my brilliant gadgets can do!" The pink haired girl announced, spreading her arms wide.
"Wire arrows and hover soles!" She announced. The students stared down at her support items and saw the sun shine on them as she made her announcement.
"You're from support." Ochaco said, stating the obvious.
"Hey! How come you got to bring all that stuff?" Mina asked, pointing at the pink haired girl.
"Students in the hero course get all kinds of combat training for their quirks. In order to keep things fair and give us a fighting chance, we're allowed to bring whatever gadgets and costumes we want into the games. So long as we developed them ourselves."
"So, then, what do the general course students get?" Ami asked, listening in on the conversation from afar.
"So, sit back and enjoy the show." The pink haired girl exclaimed, shooting out her wire arrow towards the other side of the canyon. The arrow ejected out of its protective shell and sparkled in the sunlight, reflecting off its sharp edge. The arrow pierced the cliff edge of a small island in the canyon, causing a wide grin to form on the support student's face.
"For those of us in the support course, this is the perfect obstacle to show off our ingenious ideas and creations to any companies out there who might wanna recruit us!" The pink haired girl laughed, activating her hover soles. The hover soles lifted her entire body up off the ground. She pressed her feet into the ground and dragged herself to the edge of the cliff, activating the hover solves, she jumped off the cliff with the same maniacal laugh.
"I hope employers are watching!" She hoped, pressing a button on her support item. The wire arrow quickly retracted back towards her, propelling her body forward through the shadows.
"My super cute little babies are sure to make a splash." She exclaimed, activating her hover soles on the cliff edge. She propelled herself high into the air, laughing the entire time. Her actions were quickly noticed by spectators sitting in the top of the stadium seats. Up where the heroes were, several of them applauded the use of her gadgets.
"Heh. I know a guy who'd be impressed with her support items." The stoic hero grinned, watching the support student laugh maniacally on the jumbotron.
"Wow!" Ochaco said, amazed by the pink haired girl's success.
"Talk about annoying." Mina said. Ochaco watched the girl use her support items on another piece of ground and narrowed her eyes. She had to get moving.
"I won't lose!" Ochaco said, getting serious.
"Ugh. This is so unfair!" Mina whined, flailing her arms around. The two rushed forward and attempted to get across. Standing in the back, the purple haired teen watched the entire scene play out with mild amusement.
"Interesting. Heh." He smirked.
"In the world of heroes, it can be hard to get popular without a flashy quirk. Right, Eraserhead?" Present Mic asked.
"I don't know what you're talking about, idiot." Aizawa said, looking irked through his bandages. Way on the opposite end of the canyon, Todoroki slid on the ice forming on the rope, balancing on the rope with ease. He reached the end of the canyon and hopped off, the ice breaking apart behind him. He made a dash towards the stairs which Present Mic quickly took notice of.
"Looks like Todoroki is still skating by easily!" Present Mic commented, watching Todoroki run. Todoroki saw the stairs to the next obstacle and could still hear explosions behind him. He turned his head back to see who it was and was honestly not surprised.
"He's finally getting fired up." Todoroki observed, watching Bakugo approach from the sky. The explosive blond had easily caught up to him and quickly flew by the entire canyon.
"It took him long enough." Todoroki mumbled, running up the stairs.
"You suck!" Bakugo shouted, intensifying his explosions. Iida approached the canyon and watched Todoroki run up the stairs with Bakugo in hot pursuit in the air. He panted and quickly caught his breath, focusing his attention to getting past the canyon.
"My older brother's probably watching this. I can't let him see me look foolish. I've got this!" Iida said, getting super serious. He balanced himself on the rope and activated his engines, propelling him forward in a T-pose.
"Boy, does he look foolish!" Present Mic commented, snickering at the position Iida was in.
"The dude in first place is so far ahead." An audience member said.
"His quirk is really powerful, but it's his natural athletic talent and keen judgment keeping him in first place." A three eyed hero pointed out.
"I'm not surprised. Don't you know who his father is? The Flame Hero, Endeavor!" The audience member revealed, surprising the three eyed hero.
"Wait, for real?" The three eyed hero asked.
"That guy's second only to All Might himself." The audience member exclaimed.
"Everyone will be fighting to have him as a sidekick for sure."
"The leader's putting distance between him and the students stuck at The Fall! It hasn't been announced how many competitors will make it through to the next round. So there's no time to relax." Present Mic commented.
The twins watched as more students attempted to climb across The Fall using the rope or flying above. Izuku looked at the rope and gritted his teeth. There was no way One For All would help here. He'd have to get across by holding onto the rope. He didn't like the idea but it was the only option he had.
"Izzy, wait." Ami called out, putting a hand on Izuku's shoulder.
"What is it?"
"I can get across this. I can even bring you, too." Ami said, nodding her head.
"Are you sure?" Izuku asked, skeptical.
"One hundred percent, sure." Ami assured him, giving him a flameless smile. Izuku looked at the determination in Ami's eyes and nodded.
"Okay. What's your plan?" Izuku asked. Ami nodded and walked up to Izuku, whispering in his ear. Izuku listened to Ami's plan and nodded his head as she explained it.
"Okay. Let's do it." Izuku said. Ami turned around and raised her arms back. Izuku turned around as well and put the shrapnel piece on his back. The two backed up into each other and went back-to-back, both hugging the shrapnel with their backs.
"Alright. Get into position." Ami ordered, receiving a nod from Izuku. The two walked up to the edge of the cliff, making sure they were still back-to-back.
"Done." Izuku said.
"Okay, now hold on." Ami ordered, stretching her arms back towards Izuku. Izuku looked down at Ami's arms and grabbed onto them. Once he grabbed hold of her arms, Ami raised them back up to her and linked them together. The shrapnel held up on both of their backs made it slightly heavier than she would've liked but she managed to lift up Izuku. Izuku felt himself get picked up by Ami's arms and made sure they were tightly linked together.
"Hey, Ami. This'll technically be our first duo move." Izuku pointed out.
"Haha. You're right. You ready, Izzy?" Ami laughed, trying to hold him up.
"Yup." Izuku nodded.
"Make sure you catch our fall in the end, okay?" Ami reminded him.
"Let's do this." Izuku said, tightening his grip. Ami smiled hearing Izuku's optimism and looked down at the ground. She tightened the grip around her brother and activated her quirk. Ami closed her eyes and prepared herself. With the added firepower from eating the flames off the deceased robot, she felt comfortable performing this.
"Our first twin combo move, Twin Rocket Liftoff!" Izuku exclaimed, improvising a name. They'd have to work on that. Ami felt more flames shoot up into her mouth, making sure it was just enough to get them where they needed to go. There were still more obstacles to go after all. Without any time to rethink this through, Ami breathed fire into the ground below them, sending the two of them flying above the ground. Ami put her focus entirely on making sure the level of fire she emitted stayed the same temperature. Her flamethrower travelled into the fifty feet range, creating a massive trail of fire as they flew by. Students on and off The Fall watched with awe as the twins flew high above the canyon propelled by the force of Ami's flamethrower. Izuku had closed his eyes unintentionally upon liftoff and slowly reopened them. To his surprise, the plan had worked. They were flying above the canyon at super fast speeds. Izuku looked around the massive canyon and smiled.
"Ami, it's working! We're flying!" Izuku exclaimed. Izuku smiled wide as they flew past island after island. The large trail of fire caught several students off guard, causing some to nearly mess up.
"Great teamwork from the Midoriya twins. Though it shouldn't be surprising that they'd work together!" Present Mic commented. The entire stadium went into an uproar with multiple cheers and rounds of applause. Backdraft was dumbstruck by the amazing teamwork displayed on the jumbotron while the hero next to him was fully focused on the screen, smiling the entire time. Back at home, Inko shot up off the couch and cried out in excitement.
"That's my babies!" She shouted, loud enough for the entire apartment to hear.
"Ami, we're reaching the end. Almost there!" Izuku shouted, causing Ami to focus even more. She fired off another blast of fire from her mouth and let it slowly die down, allowing them to descend. Izuku looked down at the ground and tensed his body. As the twins fell closer and closer to the ground, Izuku readied himself to catch their fall. He narrowed his eyes as they reached the ground, holding his legs up to catch themselves.
Thud
:Izuku panted lightly, feeling the weight of both the large piece of shrapnel on his back and Ami's weight. Ami extinguished her flames and gulped, deactivating her quirk.
"Ha-I..uh-think I'll r-run it from here on... out." Ami panted heavily, wiping the sweat off her forehead. Izuku let go of her arms and they unlinked their arms, causing the shrapnel between them to drop onto the floor.
"Ami, look. We did it!" Izuku shouted, getting Ami's attention. Ami looked at the canyon and realized he was right. The plan worked. They were across the canyon.
"We did it? W-We did it! Yes!" Ami exclaimed, raising her fists in the air. Ami turned around and hugged Izuku, who happily accepted it. The happy twins smiled and stared back at the canyon, watching the other students that had previously passed them struggle to get to the end of the canyon.
"We got past everyone else. Todoroki and Kacchan are probably already at the third obstacle. We gotta keep moving." Izuku commanded, picking up his piece of shrapnel.
"You're right." Ami nodded, running forward a little. She immediately stopped running and turned back towards the canyon, taking notice of her fellow classmates among the crowd of students taking on The Fall.
"Good luck, guys!" Ami shouted, receiving a thumbs up from her tired classmates. She nodded in satisfaction and resumed sprinting towards the next obstacle. The twins ran up the red stairs together running side-by-side to the next and final obstacle. Todoroki was far in the lead, running as fast as he could go. He turned a corner and kept his breathing stable, reaching a new section of the obstacle course. He stopped running and stared at the empty dirt track in front of him, looking for anything out of the ordinary.
"And now, we're finally approaching the last obstacle. Everyone had better tread carefully. You're stepping onto a minefield!" Present Mic announced, getting an excited and slightly concerned reaction from the stadium.
"If you look carefully, you can see where those little bombs are buried. So keep your eyes on the ground, folks. By the way those land mines were designed for the games, so they might be loud and flashy, but they're not all that powerful. Just enough to make you wet your pants!" Present Mic announced, dissuading any fear present in the stadium attendants.
"Get a hold of yourself." Aizawa said, rolling his eyes.
"They reached the final obstacle already?" Ami questioned, running with Izuku. The twins immediately broke into a sprint in an attempt to catch up. The time it took for them to get past The Fall would only give them a lead for so long. They ran past several other students that had gotten past The Fall in a short amount of time as them.
"Faster. C'mon!" Izuku grunted, gripping onto his shrapnel piece. They turned a corner and quickly stopped themselves from running into the field, allowing them a second to catch their breath. Izuku and Ami looked ahead and saw a few students walking slowly and taking their time advancing.
"This is the last obstacle?" Ami asked, watching the students move slowly. One of the students gulped as he took a wide step forward, ultimately proving to be a bad idea. The mine underneath his foot activated and sent the student flying. The twins' eyes widened at the height the student in the air reached. They exchanged glances before gulping at the same time. In the middle of the minefield, Todoroki made slow and careful steps. He thought about using his ice to make a path but quickly realized it would only help the people behind him instead. He wasn't going to let anyone get ahead.
"Very clever. Those in the lead are actually at a disadvantage here. Guess it makes for good entertainment." Todoroki thought, making his way through the mines.
BOOM.
The explosion behind him had gained Todoroki's attention. He recognized the sound of the explosion and could tell it was different compared to the mines. The sound caused Todoroki to raise his eyes. As he was about to turn his head around, Bakugo came into his peripheral vision. He braced himself from the dirt kicked up in the blondes explosion and looked at him in surprise. Todoroki made eye contact with Bakugo and saw the annoyed glare in his eyes.
"Bastard!" Bakugo grunted, "Your declaration of war was to the wrong person!" He shouted, raising his arm towards Todoroki. Todoroki saw the impending blasts and stepped back to avoid them, making sure he didn't land on any mines himself.
"Just like that, a new student takes the lead! The media here is going crazy! There's nothing they love more than an upset!" Present Mic shouted, amidst the uproar. The cameras in the obstacle course pointed their attention to a couple of the other students attempting to get through the minefield but to no avail.
"Hey, hey, hey! The rest of the competitors are catching up, too!" Present Mic shouted.
Todoroki narrowed his eyes at Bakugo. The blond had successfully gotten on Todoroki's nerves. Bakugo swiped at Todoroki with an explosive hand. He quickly slapped the hand away and grabbed onto Bakugo's wrist, unleashing ice upon it. The entire time they luckily stepped by landmine after landmine. Bakugo shook the hand off his wrist, leaving a patch of ice still on his arm. Present Mic and the audience could see the conflict on the jumbotron and got excited.
"And what's this? Can our two leaders fight each other and stay in front of the competition?" Present Mic questioned.
"Crap. They're so far ahead." Izuku thought, staring at Todoroki and Kacchan. The twins had observed a few of the students' attempts on the minefield and gathered where the mines were placed in the front. Ami heard more students running up from behind them and knew they needed to hurry.
"Izuku, we gotta go already." Ami said, putting a hand on Izuku's shoulder.
"You go on ahead. I want to plan things out more." Izuku replied, looking at the ground. Ami stared at Izuku's serious face and wondered what he was thinking about. She trusted he had it under control and walked away, entering the minefield. After watching several students' attempts, Ami managed to get past several mines and students. She stared at the ground and thought of her next step carefully. She quickly realized it was hard to decide where to step when the mines could be anywhere. She carelessly hopped forward and luckily hit the ground without exploding, making her sigh in relief.
"This is really hard." Ami said, feeling her heart beat faster. She looked ahead and saw Todoroki and Bakugo slapping each other and dodging mines like it was normal.
"They make it look so easy." Ami complained, shaking her head. She heard a multitude of explosions to her right and saw Iida running as fast as he could avoiding the mines blowing up behind him. Eventually, the mines caught up to him and he was quickly consumed in the explosion. Staring at the explosions caused by Iida's running, she raised an eye at the smoke. Curiously, she opened her mouth and inhaled. Sure enough, small pockets of fire from Iida's attempt came flying out of the smoke and shot towards her. Consuming the flames, she closed her mouth and smiled. Staring ahead, she swirled the fire around in her mouth and spat it out. The fireball travelled eight feet in front of her and hit the ground hard, setting off an explosion. Ami used her arm to shield herself from the blast and grinned. She took a few steps forward and entered the impact zone, smiling to herself.
"This is it. Make a shot and if my fireball doesn't trigger an explosion then I know it's safe." Ami thought, feeling sure of her strategy.
Back at the entrance, Izuku looked at his shrapnel piece and started to form an idea in his head. He quickly put the plan in motion and started to dig out landmines. The attempt had gotten the attention of several curious students who looked at Izuku like he had lost his mind.
"What's Midoriya doing?" Jiro asked herself, turning her back on him.
"Todoroki and Bakugo are neck and neck for the lead and knocking on the finish line!" Present Mic commented. One of the camera robots observing the minefield turned their face and zoomed into Izuku's posiition. The robot watched Izuku dig out mines with curiosity and recorded it, transmitting onto a single screen in the stadium. Several heroes noticed the screen on Izuku and squinted their eyes watching. Backdraft and the stoic hero were among the crowds watching Izuku's actions.
"What's he doing?" The stoic hero asked, watching curiously.
"Beats me." Backdraft replied, shrugging his shoulders.
"There." Izuku said, looking at the large pile of mines bundled on top of each other. Izuku had finished setting up his plan. Looking at all the mines he realized he needed more than one for his plan to work. He needed a dozen. Once he collected them all, he stared down at the pile of mines and narrowed his eyes. He thought about how Bakugo used his explosions to jump into the air and came up with the plan. Now all he needed to do was jump. He took a step back and squeezed the huge piece of shrapnel in his arms and prepared himself for what he was about to do. He nodded his head and held the shrapnel in front of him, shielding himself in the front.
"Thanks for the idea, Kacchan!" Izuku said. Not wasting any time, he rushed forward and jumped onto the pile of landmines.
"Super explosive turbo speed!" Izuku shouted, feeling the mines going off beneath him. The bombs blasted all at once and made a huge explosion that shook the minefield, getting everyone's attention. Todoroki and Bakugo stopped their fighting and looked at the back of the minefield, letting out gasps.
"What's with that huge explosion in the back?! That was way more powerful than it should be!"
"Oh my God!" Backdraft exclaimed, getting up from his seat. The stoic hero next to him looked at the screen in silence, his eyes showing visible shock. On his shoulder, a burst of flames kicked up in the loose fabric of his costume, peeking at the action. Reaching high into the sky, Izuku flew past everyone in the minefield. His classmates all looked in the sky and saw Izuku and the piece of shrapnel flying forward and were awestruck.
"Incredible! What just happened?!" Present Mic questioned.
"Midoriya?" Iida questioned, watching Izuku fly by. Ami looked at Izuku in the sky and felt her jaw hit the ground. She watched him fly by towards Todoroki and Bakugo and felt her excitement get the best of her.
"WOO! Go, Izzy!" Ami shouted, jumping up and down in excitement.
"YES!" All Might exclaimed, thrusting his arms in the air.
"Whatever the case, Class 1-A's Izuku Midoriya is suddenly in hot pursuit of first place! Scratch that! The lead is his!" Present Mic announced, the stadium erupted into huge cheers.
"I flew over them just like I planned. But there was more force than I expected. And… I didn't think about how I was gonna land!" Izuku exclaimed, thinking in his head. Bakugo stared up at Deku and felt a rush of anger boil through him. He ignited his arms in huge explosions and rocketed himself into the air, chasing after Deku.
"Deku...What the hell do you think you're doing, huh?" Bakugo shouted, flying towards Deku. Todoroki planted his foot into the dirt and quickly sent his ice into the ground, making a frozen path forward in just a few seconds.
"This ice path will end up helping others. But there's no time to worry about them!" Todoroki thought, running after the two.
"Look at that plot twist. Those two aren't fighting anymore. They're chasing Midoriya! That's what having a common enemy will do in this competition! This fight is still far from over, though!" Present Mic commented.
"Anything can happen." All Might thought, clenching his fists tightly. He sat on the edge of his seat watching the action on the jumbotron. In the distance, Ami saw Izuku's descent and realized he was losing speed. Todoroki and Bakugo were quickly gaining on him. If she was going to get to them and beat them she'd have to move fast and get through the mines quickly.
"Screw this." She mumbled, breathing fire. Her flamethrower hit the ground and activated several mines in front of her, clearing a path for her to run through.
"Don't gag. Don't gag. Don't gag." Ami repeated, running through the smoke produced by her flames and the exploding mines. In the front, Izuku looked down at the approaching ground and winced.
"Oh, no. I'm losing speed. This is bad. They'll get ahead of me again." Izuku thought, watching Todoroki and Bakugo quickly gain on him.
"If I don't time this landing right, there's no way I'll be able to keep the lead. I just… have to hold on and keep going. I have a chance here. I have to reach out and take it!" Izuku thought, a new idea forming in his head. It was crazy and if he did Kacchan would definitely kill him later, but there was no other way. He flipped over and held the shrapnel piece over his head.
"The only way to stay ahead is to take another leap. I have to take them out of the running! I can show the world who I am!" Izuku thought, clenching his teeth. He raised his arms downward and dropped the shrapnel onto the ground between Todoroki and Bakugo, triggering multiple explosions beneath them. The huge explosions sent Izuku flying and disoriented the two students. Izuku rolled across the ground and quickly recovered, sprinting like mad towards the stadium.
"In a stunning move, Midoriya has blasted past his classmates from 1-A! I don't believe it- he cleared that minefield in an instant!" Present Mic shouted. Bakugo and Todoroki recovered from the disorienting blast and bolted towards Midoriya.
"Eraserhead, your students are amazing! What the heck are you teaching them?"
"This has nothing to do with me. Each of them is powered by their own drive to succeed." Aizawa said, watching the three students race towards the entrance.
"There ya have it, Eraserhead is a terrible teacher!"
"I'm what?" Aizawa asked, angrily raising his voice. Entering the tunnel, Midoriya sprinted harder and faster than he ever did before. His heart was pounding against his chest as he approached the tunnel. Bakugo glared at Deku with rage and ignited explosions onto his arms. His attention was focused entirely on Deku and Todoroki. Just as his explosions ignited off his arms, the blasts suddenly flew off him, causing him to stumble and nearly trip. Bakugo's eyes widened at the sudden action and forced him to stop using his quirk. A strange sense of denial went through his head as he realized who could've stopped him.
"What the hell?" Bakugo thought, twisting his head back. His eyes looked to his left and made eye contact with the green haired girl. Ami inhaled the explosions on Bakugo's arms and swallowed them. She looked at Bakugo's face and made a nervous smile at him. Bakugo's eye twitched at the sight of the girl running up to him. His anger had reached the tipping point.
"Hi." Ami greeted, running up beside Bakugo. Bakugo looked at Habanero with an eye twitching. The expression on his face was one of surprise and pure rage. The anger he felt was so high that he could only say one thing to her.
"Habanero!" Bakugo shouted with a voice heard across the world. He wanted to propel himself into the air again but knew she'd take the chance to eat his flames. With Habanero by his side, there was nothing he could do to stop her from using her quirk. He growled in frustration and entered the tunnel with Habanero behind him. Inside the tunnel, Todoroki watched Izuku running towards the entrance and sent a path of ice towards him. By the time the ice had reached the end of the tunnel it was already too late. Behind him, Ami and Bakugo saw the ice on the ground and realized they couldn't get past it running. Ami looked at Bakugo and saw the anger in his face. She knew there was no choice here, he had to use his quirk to get past the ice. But she needed to get past the ice, too. Seeing no other alternative, she tensed her body and rushed towards Bakugo, doing the unthinkable.
"Please don't kill me after." Ami prayed, jumping onto Bakugo and grabbing hold of his leg. Just as she did, Bakugo ignited his arms in explosions and propelled them forward. He felt the pressure on his leg and looked at himself while in the air. Holding on for dear life, he saw Habanero on his leg and growled even more. Seeing the exit, he growled and cursed his way out of the tunnel.
"The first to make it back into the stadium is the first place winner! Izuku Midoriya is our champion!" Present Mic announced, the stadium went into an uproar of cheers. Backdraft and many other heroes around him stood out of their seats and clapped. Bursts of confetti flew in the air as Izuku entered the stadium. Sliding off the couch covered in her own tears, Inko watched the announcement on the tv screen and bawled her eyes out.
"Oh, my baby, Izuku!" Inko cried. Outside the stadium, the heroes standing around as security turned their heads towards the outside jumbotron.
"Hey, it's that kid." Death Arms said, recognizing the plain looking green kid on the monitor.
"Oh yeah. He fought the Sludge Monster." Kamui Woods stated, remembering that day. Far away from the sports festival in an undisclosed location. Shigaraki stared at the computer screen and watched the sports festival. He stared at the screen and narrowed his eyes upon seeing the first place winner.
"It's that brat again." Shigaraki said, scratching his neck. Izuku heavily panted and grabbed hold of his knees, taking deep breaths. The exhaustion he felt was only temporary. He took another deep breath and put himself together. He stood strong and looked up at the stadium and stared at all the audience members. He looked around and kept his eyes focused on one section of the stadium in particular. Izuku held his fist up proud, making eye contact with the number one hero sitting in the faculty section. All Might looked at Izuku and smiled at him, causing Izuku to smile back and break down into tears. He sniffled and looked away, trying to hold back the tears.
"This sports festival is a competition where everyone aims for the top. Even though that means defeating your friends and classmates. And for professional heroes, popularity plays a huge part in their careers, so they have to want to be the best. It's a bloodthirsty world. At your core, you want to help others. That's why I chose you, Young Midoriya." All Might thought, watching the jumbotron replay Izuku's stunning move.
"But in all honesty. I also thought your selflessness could be your weakness. Turns out, I was worried over nothing. You are a fighter! Still, maybe cool it with the waterworks." All Might thought, putting his hands together.
"This is interesting."
"I think it's obvious that Midoriya's stock is about to go up."
"Not so fast. He's still an unknown since we have no idea what his quirk is. Imagine for a second that an agency was to take him on, how would they market someone so plain-looking who doesn't show off his quirk?"
"They definitely have their work cut out."
"Well his sister had a fire quirk by the looks of it. He could be holding off on using his quirk to build demand."
"Business Course Students. Some things never change." All Might said, staring down at the students below his floor.
"The Business Course! There's really no benefit to them participating in the sports festival. So, they cultivate their instincts by selling things or running market simulations! They have a lot of free time." Present Mic narrated.
Down in the stadium floor, Bakugo stood near the entrance, panting in exhaustion. His last ditch explosions combined with the added weight tired him out. On the floor next to him, still holding onto his leg with both arms was Ami. She was also panting heavily in exhaustion.
"I made it…" Ami sighed, catching her breath. She leaned her head on the thing she was holding onto and made a tired smile. She then heard hands clenching tightly above her and reopened her eyes. Remembering what she was holding onto, she opened her eyes and looked up to see the devil staring down at her.
"Habanero..." Bakugo growled, causing Ami to die inside. She gave Bakugo an awkward smile and felt her whole body get goosebumps. She removed her arms on Bakugos leg and crawled away. Bakugo turned around fully and slowly approached the frightened Habanero.
"HABANERO!" Bakugo shouted angrily. Ami panicked and screamed, entering fight or flight mode. She chose flight mode and made a run for it around the stadium grounds. Bakugo let out feral growls and chased after her, anger taking over him.
'I had to! It was the only way I could catch up to you guys!" Ami shouted, running away from Bakugo. Bakugo ignored her justification and continued running after her, growling the entire time. Kirishima and Sero made it to the stadium and immediately went after the two. Todoroki took deep breaths and heated himself up, feeling the cold chill in his body evaporate. He stood there gathering his thoughts and looked up. He stared at Izuku with narrowed eyes and walked off.
"Deku, that was amazing!" Ochaco said, running up to Izuku.
"Oh, thank you." Izuku said, watching as Ochaco come close to him.
"I can't believe you got first place, I'm jealous!" Ochaco smiled, enthusiastically.
"Uh, it was nothing." Izuku stuttered, hiding his red face. When he covered his face his eyes drifted off into space. He started thinking about the obstacle course and how he had managed to get to first. If Ami hadn't helped him earlier he might've taken longer getting across the canyon. All things considered, he felt lucky everything turned out the way it did.
As more students entered the stadium, yaoyorozu walked in panting in exhaustion. Her shirt was still unzipped as she entered the stadium. That part wasn't what she was embarrassed about. She was embarrassed about the tiny goblin that had hitched a ride on her back during her attempt at getting through the minefield.
"How could this happen?" She panted, disappointed in herself. The tiny purple kid attached to her laughed behind her back. Literally. Mineta had used his balls and stuck them to her clothes. There was nothing she could do to shake them off her.
"Two birds with one stone. I'm a genius!" Mineta complimented himself, feeling his nose bleeding.
"You are the worst." Yaoyorozu complained, looking at Mineta in disgust.
"The first game for the first years is finally over and what a game it was! Now let's take a quick look at the standings, shall we?" Midnight announced. The rankings of the students appeared on the holographic monitor. Bakugo glared at the monitor with arms crossed and looked at the names placed.
1st: Izuku Midoriya, 2nd: Shoto Todoroki, 3rd: Katsuki Bakugo, and 4th: Ami Midoriya. Reading it was enough to make him angry. Not because Deku was first but because he lost second place to Todoroki. All because of Habanero. He glared at Habanero and let out a frustrated growl that Habanero had heard, causing her to laugh anxiously.
"Eh heheh...ha..." She laughed anxiously, twirling her hair in embarrassment. She kept her face away from Bakugo's intense glare and looked up at the monitor with a smile. Fourth place was just fine with her.
"Only the top 42 will advance to the next round. But don't be too let down if you didn't make the cut! We've prepared other opportunities for you to shine." Midnight smirked, licking her lips. The students watching her clenched their fists in anxiety. They eagerly awaited the next challenge.
"Now the real fun is about to begin. The chance to fully move yourselves into the limelight! Give it your best!" Midnight announced.
"Let's see what we have in store for you next. Will your wildest fantasies come to life? What could it be? The waiting is torture." Midnight teased, causing everybody to tense up.
"Prepare yourselves...for this!" Midnight announced. The students all stared up at the screen with surprise. Ami raised her eye at the event picked by the monitor and put a hand on her chin.
"Cavalry battle?" Ami questioned, unsure of the event.
"I'm terrible at those." Kaminari complained.
"Oh, yes." Mineta celebrated, thinking of the women he could be with.
"Huh, it's not an individual event. I wonder how they'll split us up?" Tsu wondered, staring at the monitor curiously.
"Allow me to explain. The participants will form teams of two-to-four people as they see fit." Midnight explained, providing a visual example on the monitor. Ami giggled at the sight of All Might riding on Thirteen and Present Mic.
"In theory, it's basically the same as a regular playground game. But there is one difference. Each player has been assigned a point value based on the results from the obstacle course.
"I get it. A point based system like the entrance exams. That seems pretty simple." Sato said, nodding his head.
"So that means each team will have a different point value based on which students are on it." Ochaco guessed.
"Uh huh." Mina agreed.
"Maybe you should shut up and let me explain things to you!" Midnight demanded, frightening Mina and Ochaco.
"Now then, the point assignments go up by increments of five, starting from the bottom. For example, 42nd place is worth five points and 41st is worth ten. And the point value assigned to the first place contestant is...ten million!" Midnight announced. The number assigned to first place shocked every student in the crowd. Ami stared up at the monitor with eyes wide. She glanced towards Izuku and saw the same shocked expression on his face. She clenched her fists and shook her head, lowering it a bit.
"Poor, Izuku." Ami thought, "So, in other words. If you take down his team…" Ami thought.
"You'll win the cavalry game and take the lead yourself." The students guessed, reaching the same conclusion as Ami.
"That's right. It's survival of the fittest, with a chance for those at the bottom to overthrow the top!" Midnight announced. Suddenly, Izuku felt all the eyes were on him. And they were not friendly. He gulped for what would happen next.
Author's Notes: Hello, everyone! Thanks for reading the chapter. As of today, I'm free from college until the summer class starts. I'm really sorry for taking so long to finish the chapter. I didn't want to take this long to write this particular episode because I knew the next chapter afterwards would take a while to write. But unfortunately, I had to prepare for finals last week and then take them all this week. Hence why I'm done with college today. It's my fault it took so long to complete so I'm sorry. But I knew I didn't want a month to go by with only one chapter posted so I worked fast to fully complete this chapter. Last week regarding this story, I was completely caught off guard to see all the reviews that had appeared. It was so overwhelming I cried for a bit. I'm really happy that so many people are reading my story and giving me feedback. Because of that, I knew I had to work harder to complete this chapter and get it posted today. On Friday tomorrow, I promise to immediately start work on the next chapter because I know in my head it'll take the longest to write. Of course, it won't be posted tomorrow, but I will try and get it out as fast as possible.
The next chapter will be all about the Cavalry battle. Who's team will Ami join? It won't be Izuku's. I think the one she joins will surprise everyone. So let's get into what happened in this chapter. So, I tried to not make it so confusing involving the events in the chapter so I hope I got it right in that regard. I changed a few things compared to the episode that I hope people can forgive me for. Like Ami saving Izuku from a surprise robot attack. I needed some payoff for Ami's quirk training and decided to use it there. It was also a good way to show off the twins' teamwork to Backdraft and his stoic hero friend. This'll be the last time Izuku and Ami team up in the festival so I wanted to give them that moment here in the obstacle course. Since I used Present Mic's announcement for Tokoyami's quirk in chapter 6, I decided to give Ami her own Present Mic announcement.
As for the second obstacle course, Ami and Izuku's teamwork there was inspired by two person workouts. Visually it's when you stand back to back with your partner and link arms together. I think Momo and Jiro did something like that in one of the credits in the show. Twin Rocket Liftoff was something I just came up with on the spot so I hope it doesn't sound that awful. So using that move saved the twins more time to get to the third obstacle quicker meaning there were far less students ahead of Izuku in this version of events. Ami would try to get past the mines herself and use her quirk to her advantage but Izuku would still carry out his landmine plan like in canon. However, instead of Bakugo flying after Izuku, Ami would be there to eat the explosions right off of him. This left Bakugo with no choice but to run with Ami close behind him. Since the last four were still way ahead of all the other students, nothing stopped Ami and Bakugo from reaching the end. And in order to get to 4th place, Ami decided to jump on Bakugo and hope he used his explosions to get in the air. In the end, it all worked out. Instead of being mad that Deku got first, his anger moved to Ami who had slowed him down.
So, in other news, I was asked what would happen if the reverse happened. Basically, "What if Izuku had Flame Catcher and Ami had One For All?" For starters, a lot would happen differently. So different that covering it up to this point in the story would take forever. But Ami's entire life would have to be different, same with Izuku's. And the situation that leads to Ami getting One For All would be a lot different from how Izuku got One For All. Probably. I haven't put much thought into the idea so who knows. If people want a random chapter about this What if story, I might do it. But I probably wouldn't write it immediately either. I wouldn't want to make people wait any longer for the next chapter.
Finally, I spent several days working on this, but I might have missed some errors. If I don't see them as soon as I post this, be sure to let me know. Thanks for all the follows and favorites. I'll do my best to finish up the sports festival. Thanks everyone for reading my story. Reviews and feedback are appreciated and encouraged. I hope everyone has a good day!
