"Kamui, did you watch that?" Mt. Lady said, staring at the large jumbotron in front of the entrance to the stadium. Kamui Woods and Mt. Lady were both on patrol and worked while listening to the games. However, Mt. Lady was spending more time watching instead of spending more time working. After watching an impressive fight featuring a girl with vines for hair and what she could only describe as a purple gremlin, she was in awe at the match. She was mostly intrigued by the level of skill the girl displayed. Watching the girl's performance in the match had reminded her of the person she was supposed to be on guard duty with. Remembering that, she turned towards Kamui Woods and waved her arm at him, successfully getting his attention. Kamui stopped and turned his attention towards Mt. Lady and looked at her with a curious stare.
"Hm?" Kamui mumbled, beginning to wonder if she was even doing her job.
"Look at that girl." Mt. Lady said, pointing at the unconscious Ibara getting carted off in a stretcher, "Wouldn't she make, like, the perfect sidekick for you?" Mt. Lady asked, enthusiastically. Kamui Woods looked up at the jumbotron and saw the girl getting carried off by a stretcher. He had, on one or two occasions, taken a quick glance at the jumbotron screen from time-to-time. However, unlike Mt. Lady, Kamui didn't spend the majority of his time watching the games.
"Yeah, excellent control, too. Wish I coulda seen more." Kamui Woods said, nodding in agreement. He remembered his quick glances he made towards the jumbotron and saw the moves she performed. She was still a rookie but he was impressed to see the power she had. It was too bad she had lost, but she was definitely full of potential.
"She's great for your brand. You need someone cute!" Mt. Lady recommended, thinking economically. Her recommendation caught Kamui by surprise, interrupting his train of thought. Kamui looked at her and frowned, eyes half lidded in disappointment.
"Just get back to work." Kamui ordered, mentally facepalming. He figured he spent enough time getting distracted by Mt. Lady and resumed his patrol. Inside the stadium, the crowds were in a frenzy over what happened. Many were caught by surprise from the results of the battle. It was only a few minutes ago that everyone felt bad for Mineta going up against Shiozaki. However, after Mineta managed to pull off the biggest surprise victory of all time, the audience quickly shifted their pity towards Shiozaki. Many of them felt sympathy for her. Despite her loss by Mineta's surprise attack, she had gotten the last laugh. The heroes stared at the damage left behind in the wake of Shiozaki's defeat and were impressed, in awe, or too stunned for words.
Standing at the top of the hero stands, Endeavor stared at the destroyed battlefield and flared his nostrils. Part of him wondered how she could have lost to such a short hero but he also realized what her mistake was. Other heroes sitting in the seats below Endeavor stared at the damage in awe. Wyvern looked down at the absolutely unrecognizable battleground with a stoic look. To anyone watching him, it would've looked like he was indifferent to the damage, however, that was far from true. He leaned forward a bit in his chair, touching his knees with his elbows and placing both hands on his chin. He analyzed the damage done to the battlefield and flared his nostrils, opening his mouth and whistling in astonishment at the destruction, clearly impressed.
"That poor floor. Wonder how many times that's gonna get destroyed today?" Wyvern questioned rhetorically, watching Cementoss clear off the vines with his concrete. He kept his stoic expression and folded his arms, glancing at Backdraft at the same time. Backdraft was leaning on his pipe hand, staring at something or someone. Wyvern looked at Backdraft and figured out his body language, noticing he was staring at something with slight concern.
"There a problem?" Wyvern asked, stoically. Backdraft glanced at Wyvern for a split second and nodded, pointing his hand towards the small purple haired teen near the entrance to the stadium.
"I wonder if that boy is aware he's got blood all over himself." Backdraft said, watching Mineta wave at the audience on the grass. He moved off the broken battlefield a short while ago and made his way to the exit, however, the boy was living it up on all the attention he was getting.
"If there's any hot chicks watching my number is-" Mineta's voice quickly drowned out amidst the screams and shouts of the attendants in the stadium. No one could hear a word that came out of the teens lips. All of the cameras were pointed away from him, too. Opting instead to focus on Shiozaki's condition. Wyvern looked down at the tiny teenager and furrowed his eyebrow. He examined the amount of blood on the teen's scalp and started to wonder the same thing. A small flame kicked up on his shoulder while looking at Mineta. The flame lifted up the extra fabric on his shoulder, getting Wyvern's attention. Wyvern stared at the flames peeking out of his fabric and listened. After a few seconds, he nodded to himself and leaned back into his chair.
"That kid's probably still running on adrenaline. Considering who he was up against, I'd be full of adrenaline, too." Wyvern assumed, placing both hands behind his head and relaxing. He took a few deep breaths and felt his mind calm down. Backdraft nodded his head in agreement, paying no attention to Wyvern's relaxed state.
"No doubt about that. He's lucky to have gotten off with just a head wound. She had an incredible quirk." Backdraft complimented, acknowledging her potential. He stared down at the battlefield and kept his attention on Shiozaki, watching as the robots took her. Glancing back at the vines covering the battlefield made him feel a sense of nostalgia. He wondered if Ibara was inspired by the hero and friend, Kamui Woods. A bit of curiosity grew inside him upon remembering Kamui was working security outside the stadium.
"Hm...I wonder if Kamui was watching, too? Backdraft thought to himself, thinking he could help Kamui with scouting. The sound of a microphone turning on interrupted his thoughts.
"All right, folks. That first pre-match was pretty good, but the fight isn't over yet! Once the battlefield is fixed and Mineta's feeling better, we can move on to the next fight. So, sit tight and relax!" Present Mic announced, receiving thunderous applause. The jumbotron displaying the tournament bracket blinked off-and-on for a few seconds. The audience watched as Shiozaki's face was replaced by Mineta's, replacing her spot on the jumbotron. Backdraft watched the jumbotron make several live edits to the roster, showing a tease of the next match by displaying profiles of Mineta and another classmate of his named Denki Kaminari.
Backdraft took notice of the blonde's electric-themed hair and recognized his face from the Cavalry Battle. He and Wyvern felt the electricity in the air the second the boy had activated his quirk in the cavalry battle. He tensed uncomfortably in his seat when he remembered the screams the students made while getting electrocuted. He especially felt bad for Ami, whom he was rooting for. There was no doubt in his mind that the boy had a powerful quirk with a large range. He complimented Team Todoroki's intelligence by coming up with a way for Kaminari to use his quirk without affecting his teammates. It was more impressive that Mineta's team had stolen the blanket off Todoroki's team and covered Kaminari with it, essentially disabling his ability to use his quirk. Going off of that knowledge, he wondered how Mineta would fare against him without help from his teammates. No places to hide. No blankets to cover him in. It was just them and an empty battlefield. As he considered the conditions needed for Mineta to pull a win here, his thoughts were interrupted once more by the heroes sitting in the row below him. He listened in on their conversation and realized they were still discussing the last battle. He decided to stay silent and listen to what they had to say.
"When she swallowed up the whole battlefield with her vines, I thought for sure the purple kid was done for." A buff hero said, receiving several nods of agreement from several fellow heroes. One of them spoke up, grabbing the buff hero's shoulder.
"Me, too. I mean, she completely destroyed the battlefield and yet she lost?" the hero frowned, displaying her disappointment. Another hero beside her quickly came up to Shiozaki's defense and spoke up.
"Hey, a loss can happen to the best of us. Whether she won or not is irrelevant. With a quirk as strong as hers, she'll reach pro in no time." A hero said with enthusiastic optimism, receiving a few smiling nods.
"That's fair. She's definitely worth having on as a sidekick, I'll give you that." Another hero noted, nodding in response, "Still. It is too bad that we couldn't see more from her." The hero stated, frowning a little.
"Don't forget the kid who won. Mineta, was it?" Another hero said, changing topic. Some of the hero's moods quickly changed when referring to Mineta.
"Mhm. Yeah, yeah. That kid, for sure, has a great quirk for capturing villains." The hero nodded, remembering his victory move.
"Yeah, but did you hear all that stuff he said to her?" Another hero pointed out with a disgusted face. The heroes around him shuddered in response, giving off their own disgusted groans in acknowledgement.
"He's got a mouth and a dirty mind. He needs to work on that if he wants to go pro someday." The hero grimaced, criticizing Mineta's behavior.
"For sure." the buff hero agreed.
"Mhm." the female hero nodded.
"I agree." Another hero said.
"Hmm. The kid's a little crude, I'll admit, but nothing that experience can't fix. Hopefully." Backdraft said to himself, getting Wyvern to reopen his eyes. Wyvern stretched his neck and arms and yawned. He was also secretly listening to the heroes below him and heard Backdraft's comment, making a side glance at Backdraft. A small bit of flame erupted off his shoulder in response. He saw the flame on his shoulder and groaned, shaking his shoulder so the flame would die down.
"Quiet." He mumbled to himself, extinguishing the small flame. He sighed afterwards, closing his eyes again. He readjusted his arms position in the chair and properly settled down. On the opposite side of them, the students had calmed down since the results of Mineta's match.
In the student stands, Ochaco stared at the damaged battleground and felt a small hint of nervousness enter her mind. That nervousness quickly melted away due in part to the voices she was hearing next to her. She turned her head towards Izuku and listened to his fast muttering.
"I've seen how Mineta's quirk works at the USJ. He's got a lot of uses for his quirk. I never would've guessed Mineta would be able to get the upper hand on Shiozaki's vines. Shiozaki's vines were strong, but not very durable if Mineta's teeth were able to bite through them. Her ability to control the vines individually was also phenomenal. I wonder if she's studied Kamui Woods moves? Her binding attacks are pretty powerful, too, it's a good thing Mineta was able to get out of them. And her last move was powerful, too. I didn't think Mineta would be able to go up against that many vines but he used his quirk to bounce off of them and kept himself bouncing in the air at super high speeds. No wonder, Shiozaki lost against that, anyone would have trouble keeping track of a speeding target. Mineta won using her vines against her so how will his next match go? He won't have any obstacles to bounce off of except the ground, but will that be enough? Kaminari's got a pretty good quirk with a huge range, so it'll be hard to dodge his electricity unless he can somehow evade his electricity in that small space..." Izuku muttered, getting the attention of every student sitting next to him.
Ochaco looked at Izuku and was baffled by what he was saying. She didn't catch it all but she could tell how serious he was about it. Kirishima and Tokoyami looked at him in silence while Iida pretended he wasn't hearing anything. Unlike Iida and Ochaco, Bakugo heard everything and understood what he was saying. He's heard that idiot mumbling enough times to understand what he was talking about. He tried ignoring it but Deku wouldn't shut up which annoyed him even more. Ami had her arms crossed and stared at Izuku from her seat. She was amused by his mumbling and how it got on Bakugo's nerves but she knew it was getting old. She was ready to try and get his attention but the girl sitting next to Izuku had spoken up first.
"Maybe you should take a sec to relax before planning too many matches ahead." Ochaco suggested, snapping Izuku out of his muttering. He freaked out a bit and covered his mouth in nervousness. Ami watched the two and couldn't help but grin at them. When the muttering stopped, Bakugo felt his anger subside and glanced at Habanero. He looked at the devious expression on her face and raised an eyebrow at her, wondering what she was smiling like that for. He glanced at Habanero and then back at Deku and the girl he was talking to and immediately put two-and-two together, which caused him to scoff. He looked at Habanero incredulously and shook his head.
"Like that'll ever happen." Bakugo thought, knowing Deku was incapable of growing a spine. He didn't say anything out loud and continued listening along with Habanero.
"Oh, sorry!" He apologized, speaking through his hand.
"Sometimes I don't realize I'm talking out loud when I'm taking notes. It's not every day I get to see incredible quirks from people outside of our class." Izuku said, smiling nervously at his notebook. Ochaco smiled at him and understood his sentiment. Seeing what quirks everyone has was also exciting for her.
"Actually. I've been taking notes on everybody in our class, too! Here's what I got on your zero gravity!" Izuku said, eagerly showing off the page dedicated to her quirk. He was completely oblivious to how this could be misinterpreted. Ochaco went pale in surprise. She looked at Izuku with wide eyes and a baffled look. Ami watched the whole encounter and felt her eyes reduce to tiny dots and went slack jawed. All the air in her lungs escaped out of an awkward groaning sound. Multiple alarms inside her head went off upon hearing what Izuku just said, mentally facepalming as well as feeling her soul exit her body.
"Izzy! You can't just tell a girl that!" Ami internally panicked, feeling secondhand embarrassment from her brother's words. She facepalmed and covered her entire face, taking a peek through her hands. Bakugo had heard what Deku said to that girl sitting next to him and shook his head at the moron's obliviousness. He stopped listening to their conversation afterwards and criticized him.
"Does he not realize how creepy that is?" Bakugo asked out loud, causing Ami to drop her hands from her face and frown with her eyes closed. She sighed and shook her head in embarrassment.
"Cut him some slack. The only girl he's ever talked to before was me." Ami sighed in total embarrassment, coming up with excuses in defense of Izuku. She'd have to give him advice on how to talk to girls later before he says something else weird. She opened her eyes and continued staring at them only to feel a sense of relief flow through her. Izuku and Ochaco were still talking to each other, thankfully. She seemed to have handled that revelation well, much to Ami's relief. Bakugo heard Habanero's response and rolled his eyes at her excuses.
"Uh huh." Bakugo mumbled, taking Habanero's word for it. Knowing Deku, it was most likely true.
"Midoriya! It's commendable that you see fit to record us in your notebook but your muttering is stopping us from thinking about our own fights." Iida scolded, chopping the air in front of Izuku. Izuku flailed his arms around and quickly apologized.
"Right, sorry." Izuku apologized, bowing his head in apology. Bakugo kept an eye on Deku while Four Eyes scolded him about his muttering. In the midst of his apology, Deku closed his notebook and put it away for safekeeping in his pocket. Bakugo narrowed his eyes at the small notebook and recognized it instantly. He remembered a bit of the past upon seeing that notebook.
"I don't know what you think you're doing, Deku, but we're not done." He said, grabbing hold of the notebook in Deku's hands.
"What's you got? His diary?" Bakugo's friend asked, staring at the notebook with a smile.
"Huh? Don't tell me you're taking notes on how to be a hero. That's so pathetic." Bakugo's other friend laughed, amused by the mere thought of Deku as a hero. Bakugo quickly put the memory away and tensed his arms, audibly scoffing to himself.
"Surprised the idiot still uses that notebook." Bakugo admitted, getting Ami's attention.
"Hmm?" Ami hummed, raising her eye at Bakugo. She looked back at Izuku and noticed the notebook sticking out of his pocket, "Oh. You mean that thing? Of course he still uses it." Ami replied with certainty. Bakugo crossed his arms and glared at Deku, surprising Habanero.
"What? You really think he'd part with it after you threw it out the window and got it a little wet?" Ami teased, raising an eye at Bakugo. Bakugo flared his nostrils in defiance, turning away from Habanero in anger. Maybe back then he thought Deku would part with it, not so much now though. He rolled his eyes and scoffed in response, turning back towards Habanero. He remembered what he did to it as soon as he grabbed it and took it from Deku's hands.
He remembered why he did it, too. He was frustrated and annoyed at him because of what he said during class about still wanting to be a hero. The very idea of Deku becoming a hero pissed him off back then. The fact he had no quirk was what really annoyed him. So when he grabbed his notebook, he acted out his rage on it by attempting to blow it up in his hands. However, his chances of doing so quickly came to a stop the second he fired off his explosions. He remembered seeing Habanero appear from his peripheral vision and inhale the explosions the second he activated his quirk. He was caught off guard by Habanero's appearance and so were his friends. They panicked and dodged the flying explosions that lunged towards Habanero's mouth. Bakugo stared at the undamaged notebook in his hands and gritted his teeth in anger, looking up at Habanero with a menacing glare.
"So you're here, too, Habanero?" Bakugo said, staring at her with an annoyed glare. She had appeared from nowhere and ate his explosions again. All just to protect Deku. It didn't matter to him then, already knowing how to deal with Habanero whenever she was around. He immediately threw the notebook behind him, watching Deku panic at the fact his notebook just fell out the second story window. The memory vanished in his head as he stared at Habanero. He looked at her and frowned for a split second before he quickly rolled his eyes and flared his nostrils in annoyance.
"He's lucky it's not blown up." Bakugo stated, sounding slightly grumpy. Ami heard what he said and held back a grin as she remembered the reason why his explosions failed. She formed a smug smile on her lips out of pride of her accomplishment.
"Why, thank you." Ami teased, knowing that that was entirely because of her. Her teasing caused Bakugo to growl at her with his teeth showing. He gritted his teeth and flared his nostrils at Habanero twice, getting instantly annoyed by her. Ami couldn't help but smirk at Bakugo's reaction, which made him even madder.
"That wasn't a compliment, Habanero." He growled, clenching his fists. Habanero giggled at his reaction and ignored his growling, keeping her smug smile attached to her face. Eventually, Bakugo calmed down and relaxed into his seat, however, his annoyed expression never went away even when he was calm. Ami kept her smile up and folded her arms together, leaning into her seat. Ami stared up at the sky and remembered the day Izuku had gotten that notebook. Fond memories of their early childhood went through her mind, causing her curiosity to grow. She turned her head and stared at Bakugo, examining the annoyed expression on his face. She wondered why the sudden interest in Izuku's notebook and noticed that look of contemplation. He was thinking about something. Ami took it upon herself to figure out what.
"You know, there's a lot of cool stuff in there. He's written so much information down about so many heroes throughout the years. Heh, I'm surprised there's still room left for more." Ami giggled, truly amazed by the notebook's seemingly infinite pages. She smiled fondly at memories of watching Izuku write down heroes into the notebook whenever he'd see them in action. Bakugo listened to what she said and was surprised. He's been writing in that notebook for how long?
"Are you serious?" Bakugo questioned, staring incredulously at Habanero. Ami nodded at him before she questionably raised an eye at him.
"What? Did you not know? Didn't you see the page with you in it?" Ami asked, causing Bakugo to raise his eye at her. Of course, the idiot has a page about him. Why wouldn't he have a page about him?
"No." He replied, truthfully. When he grabbed the notebook, he didn't bother to look inside. He had only read the notebook's title. Ami saw the truthful look in his eyes and grinned, nodding to herself.
"Thought so. You're in one of the first pages. I think my page is after yours." Ami answered, holding in her laugh. Bakugo was honestly surprised he'd been holding onto that notebook for that long.
"So, he's been writing in that dumb thing since before he found out about being quirkless?" Bakugo asked, getting a nod from Habanero.
"Yup. I thought he'd stop after he found out he was quirkless, but he never did." Ami said, slightly dropping her smile by just a teensy bit.
"Why didn't he?" Bakugo asked, furrowing his eyebrow.
"I don't know. I used to think he was doing it as a coping mechanism, to make himself feel better by doing something he enjoyed. Even though he was quirkless. He never gave up on wanting to be a hero. I just wish I supported him more then." Ami said, woefully. She felt her smile replace itself with a frown. The look of regret was plainly visible on her face.
Bakugo stared at her in silence, examining the sad look on her face. He heard the regret in her voice and knew he was partly responsible. He was the one who put that idea in her head when they were kids. He always said Deku could never be a hero without a quirk. But now, he did have a quirk. Possibly one of the most important quirks in human history. And now, both him and Habanero were in on it. He looked away for just a second, feeling some strange emotion deep down inside him. He glared at nothing and crossed his arms in thought. What the hell was that?
He turned his head back slightly, getting a good look of Habanero in his peripheral vision. She was still sulking about her role in the past. He raised his eyes at her and groaned, crossing his arms with a glare on his face. That damn look. That regretful look of hers hit a nerve inside him every time he saw it. It was annoying. And only just recently did it become even more annoying to look at. He didn't understand why that was. Either way, he didn't want to see it. He sighed and turned his head back, choosing to try and change the subject.
"So, you have your own page, huh? What's he got about you?" Bakugo asked, staring at Habanero with curiosity. Habanero stopped sulking once Bakugo asked her the question. She raised her head up in confusion and stared at Bakugo with a raised eyebrow. Bakugo noticed her silence and grumbled to himself.
"Well?" Bakugo questioned, snapping Habanero out of her silence. Ami felt herself blush a tiny bit and quickly responded to him.
"What's he got about me? Well, uh, it was really sweet the last time I saw it…thing is though, he hasn't shown me himself yet." Ami stuttered, touching the tips of her fingers in embarrassment.
"What? Then how do you know what's in it?" Bakugo questioned, raising an eyebrow at her in suspicion. Ami felt her blush grow bigger now that Bakugo was looking at her. She hadn't expected him to be so curious about her own page. She felt flustered like she had accidentally given away an embarrassing secret.
"Well…" Ami replied, shifting around uncomfortably. She stuttered a bit before she took a deep breath and calmed herself down. After she was calm, she started telling Bakugo about what happened last week at their home.
One Week Earlier
It was a long day for Ami and Izuku. Ami had practiced her quirk while helping Iida and Izuku was off on his own trying to think of a way to master One For All. With only a week left until the sports festival, Ami and Izuku were busy. Once school that day came to an end, they headed home and continued exercising in their own rooms. Ami panted in exhaustion on the floor in her room. She had just finished the last set of exercises she had to do for the night before taking a shower and getting some sleep.
She got up off of her floor and took deep breaths, deactivating her quirk. She had decided to increase the difficulty of her training by doing her exercises while she had her flames in her mouth. Her room was mainly fire proof which made it the most expensive room in the apartment. As she laid on the floor in exhaustion, she felt a breeze from the window hit her, causing her to shiver. Her window was open so that any smoke that escaped her lips would blow outside instead of triggering any alarms in the hallway. She also had a towel covering the space beneath the door.
After a few minutes of relaxation and heavy drinking from her water bottle, she walked out of her room and entered the hallway. She grabbed the towel that blocked her door and smelled the smoke from her quirk on it. She rolled her eyes and made a note to wash that towel later. She smelled the air in the hallway and was relieved to know there was no smoke in the house. She looked down the hall and noticed a light at the end. The light was coming from Izuku's room. She wondered what Izuku was doing at this hour and tiptoed down the hall to investigate. She leaned against the wall and moved slowly towards the light, keeping her ears open for any sound inside his room. Hearing nothing from his room, she wondered if Izuku had possibly snuck out without saying anything. Reaching his door, she decided against knocking and leaned her head into the doorframe.
"Hey, Izzy. Your lights are on. Are you still up?" Ami asked, poking her head through Izuku's slightly open door. Ami looked around the room and instantly spotted Izuku sitting in his desk chair. She raised her head up and looked at him. His body was slumped over his desk with his head lying on top of both hands. Ami saw his position and raised an eye at him with a puzzled look. Taking the opportunity to come inside, she put her hand on the door and lightly pushed it. She quietly opened the door, watching as more light from Izuku's room entered the hallway. She stared at him for a couple seconds and tiptoed into the room, staying as quiet as possible. As she got closer, the sounds of his breathing made it clear to her that Izuku was sleeping on his desk.
"He fell asleep in his desk chair?" Ami wondered, approaching Izuku. She walked right up beside him and folded her arms, staring at the sleeping Izuku with a heartfelt smile. She flared her nostrils amusedly and stayed silent, watching Izuku sleep peacefully on his desk. She looked at what was on the desk and noticed the notebook partially blocked by Izuku's arms. He was lying on top of his notebook. She raised her eyes at the open notebook and noticed the writing on it. Glancing at the page, she noticed the amount of pages left inside and realized he was sleeping on one of the first pages. Getting an even closer look, she saw words and even an illustration on his notebook that she recognized on her own. For the longest time, Ami knew about who was written in the first few pages in his notebook. There was All Might, of course. A page for himself, a page for Bakugo, and lastly, there was a page for her as well. Knowing that fact, she smiled fondly at the memory of Izuku showing the page dedicated to her in his notebook. But that was years ago. Back when neither of their quirks showed. Atleast, before hers showed. She looked down at the page and felt her curiosity increase, wondering just what he was doing sleeping on her page.
Glancing back at Izuku, she double checked his face and made sure he wouldn't suddenly wake up. She waved a hand in front of his face and saw no visible reaction to it. She sighed and took a deep breath, leaning down and taking her chance to look. When she saw what was on her page, she almost gasped in surprise.
"He drew me in my hero costume." Ami whispered to herself, feeling honored. Although Izuku's hair covered half the drawing, she was able to see the top half. It was a perfect replica of her in her hero costume. Ami didn't exactly have a picture of her costume in hand and neither did Izuku. She quickly concluded that he had drawn this using only his memory. A warm feeling went through her, forming a happy grin. She guessed once he finished drawing her in his notebook that he immediately crashed. She was proud of Izuku's memory and drawing skill. She looked at the text that was on the right side of the page and felt her smile widen.
"Friendly. Approachable. Sure to make everybody smile." Ami quoted, reading off the words in Izuku's notebook. She felt tears in her eyes and blinked several times, leaning away from the desk and wiping them off. Izuku shuffled a bit in his sleep, causing Ami to freeze. When he stopped moving, Ami quickly took a deep breath and sighed, walking slowly towards the door. Upon reaching the door, she turned her head and looked at the sleeping Izuku one last time and saw the smile on his face.
"Goodnight, Izzy." Ami said, turning Izuku's light off. She grabbed the doorknob and slowly closed it, leaving her standing in a dark hallway. Knowing what Izuku thought about her own costume brought a warm smile to her face. Happiness filled her thoughts. The way he described her hero costume matched with her own description of her costume in her notebook. Feeling incredibly happy, she wandered off towards the bathroom and prepared the shower. The memory ended and Ami returned to reality with a warm smile on her face. Bakugo saw that happy smile on her face and relaxed. He looked away and flared his nostrils, slumping his shoulders.
"Alright then." He said, cracking the tiniest hint of a smile. Once he realized what he was doing, he immediately returned to glaring at the battlefield. Wondering why the hell he smiled for a split second. He didn't really have anything else to say to Habanero after hearing that. Bakugo glanced back at Deku and noticed the Bird's shadow sneak up behind Deku, raising his eye at the approaching shadow.
"Psst. Hey, Midoriya." Dark Shadow said, poking at Izuku's shoulder. Izuku felt the touch and turned around, staring at Dark Shadow with a surprised smile.
"Oh, hey, Dark Shadow." Izuku greeted, receiving a nod from Dark Shadow.
"Have a page on me?" Dark Shadow asked, curious about what Izuku had written. He was eavesdropping on their conversation the entire time and wanted to know what he had on him.
"Actually, I do have a page for you and Tokoyami." Izuku answered, smiling innocently.
"Hehe. Let's see it." Dark Shadow grinned, gleefully wiping his hands in anticipation. Izuku pulled out his notebook and found Tokoyami's page in an instant, allowing Dark Shadow to take a look at his page. He eagerly read the page and saw the illustration of him and cackled. However, one description of him in Izuku's notebook caught his eye immediately.
"Likes to be pet by Ami."
"WHAT!" Dark Shadow exclaimed, startling Iida and Ochaco.
"Dark Shadow, return!" Tokoyami ordered, getting the embarrassed Dark Shadow to return. The students sitting close enough to hear had grins on their faces. Ami laughed in amusement at the situation while Bakugo simply shook his head in silence. Not even a minute later and it was finally time for the match to continue. Huge flames shot out the corners of the battlefield, getting the whole stadium's attention.
"All right, folks! Now that the battlefield's back in shape, let's get down to introductions!" Present Mic announced, receiving excited cheers from the audience.
"Coming back from his victory in the pre-match, it's Minoru Mineta!" Present Mic announced, receiving applause from the crowd.
"Versus the boy with the electric personality! Another fellow classmate and hero in the making, Denki Kaminari!" Present Mic announced, receiving an equal amount of applause. Ami rubbed her hands together in excitement for this match. Kaminari had left without saying a word which confused them. Looking down at the battlefield, however, they could see the serious look on Kaminari's face. Ami looked at the two students and glanced at Bakugo, wondering what his prediction was.
"So, Mineta, or Kaminari? How do you think this one'll go down?" Ami asked, looking at the silent glare on Bakugo's eyes. Bakugo focused his attention back to the battlefield and saw the tiny pipsqueak enter the ring along with the walking phone charger.
"With any luck, they'll both lose." Bakugo hoped, smiling at the thought.
"Hmph." Ami laughed with her mouth closed. The thought of the both of them taking each other out was hilarious. She stopped laughing and went back to analyzing.
"Well, the situation is different compared to Shiozaki. Shiozaki made obstacles that Mineta could use to get the upper hand, but Kaminari's quirk isn't like that. There's no obstacles, just a clean battlefield. He's at a serious disadvantage here." Ami stated, not feeling like Mineta has a chance here. Bakugo glanced back at her and lessened his glare, adopting a serious look.
"How much range does Duracell have?" Bakugo asked, staring intensely at the electric haired teen. Ami glanced at Bakugo and noticed the serious look on his face and replied.
"If I remember right. The last time he used his quirk, the shockwave electrocuted half the battlefield." Ami said, putting a finger on her chin in thought. She remembered her experience with Kaminari's quirk during the Cavalry Battle and felt a weird sensation shoot through her. The thought of it alone made her react which was understandable as the pain she felt from the shockwave had caused her serious discomfort. Returning to Bakugo's question, she reared her head back and looked at him with a puzzled expression, realizing something.
"Hey, wait, didn't you see it? The shockwave was huge." Ami questioned, getting a nod from the blonde.
"I was busy taking out the trash." Bakugo joked, remembering how satisfying it was to get his headbands back from the crazy copier.
"Okay. Well, if Kaminari uses that move again here, then this fight really will be over in a second. That electricity of his is no joke." Ami said, cringing as a chill went through her spine.
"Ugh. I still get chills thinking about how much that electricity hurts." Ami whined, hugging herself. Bakugo noticed the pained expression on Habanero's face and raised an eye. He wondered just how badly it hurt her, not because he was concerned or anything. He just wanted to know what to expect.
"How bad did it hurt?" Bakugo asked, curiously. Definitely not caring at all.
"Badly. The second the electricity reached me it felt like I was getting tazed by fifty tasers at once. It didn't help that I had my quirk activated when it hit. The flames practically boosted its power. It's mostly a blur after that though. Tsu let go of me and Shoji had to catch me before I could hurt myself even more by landing on the ground." Ami recalled, feeling grateful her friends were able to move in time to cushion her fall.
"Thanks for asking." Ami thanked, appreciating his, quote-on-quote, uncaring attitude. Bakugo rolled his eyes and mumbled to himself.
"Whatever. Anything else?" Bakugo asked, regretting asking.
"Well, when Todoroki's ice hit us while I was unconscious, my quirk self-activated like how it used to." Ami said, causing Bakugo's eyes to raise.
"Ha, seriously? Thought you grew out of that?" Bakugo thought, a nostalgic smile formed at Habanero's expense. The thought alone took him back to the past. Habanero saw the smile at her expense and frowned, giving him a stern look of disapproval.
"I did." Ami assured, giving Kacchan her glare, "But I can't do much about it when I'm unconscious and freezing." Ami clarified, crossing her arms in a pout. She looked down at her legs and frowned, thinking about the memory she remembered while in her unconscious state. As she thought about it more, she debated on mentioning it to him. With a quiet breath, Ami decided to go ahead.
"There was another thing that happened while I was unconscious." Ami said, piquing Bakugo's interest. He wasn't expecting she'd mention anything else that happened.
"I remembered something. It was an old memory. We were still kids and it was snowing for the day. I remember it so clearly, even though it's been so long." Ami mentioned, piquing Bakugo's interest.
"You were in it." Ami smiled, thinking of his reaction to the snow she placed down his shirt.
"I was? Wait, it was a snow day? Which one?" Bakugo questioned, glaring at Habanero suspiciously. There were several snow day memories that he remembered in his childhood. Several of them included her in them. Whichever snow day it was, he had the sneaking suspicion that Ami was smiling at his expense.
"I'll tell you after the match." Ami grinned, getting an annoyed glare from Bakugo. Ami had a devious grin on her face as she ignored the daggers coming from Bakugo's eyes. He gritted his teeth and growled. Just before he could speak, the speakers around the stadium turned on.
"Now that the challengers are out, let's get this fight started. Begin!" Present Mic shouted, starting the match. Bakugo stared up at the announcer room in anger, while Ami paid attention to the fight.
Mineta stared down Kaminari with clenched fists and narrowed eyes. The two teens didn't move from their spots, instead they stood their ground and stared at each other, observing their facial expressions. The way they were standing seemed reminiscent of a duel between cowboys. From the faculty stands, Snipe was very interested in how this match would end. Going by what he knew about their quirks. Mineta could immobilize Kaminari and get the win, but Kaminari could just as easily electrocute the battlefield in an instant. In a way, this was a duel to see who would shoot first.
The battlefield was silent. All the match was missing was a tumbleweed blowing through the wind between them. After a silent ten seconds, it was Kaminari that broke the silence first.
"Hey, Mineta. Good to see you." Kaminari greeted, grinning with intense eyes.
"What's up, Kaminari." Mineta greeted, grinning back at Kaminari with an intense stare.
"So, about that last match." Kaminari said, bringing it up.
"What about it? Did you see it?" Mineta asked, raising an eyebrow. Kaminari grinned and nodded his head in response.
"Oh, I saw. Gotta say, that was really impressive towards the end. Didn't know you had it in you." Kaminari complimented, getting Mineta's attention.
"What do you mean, didn't know?" Mineta asked, narrowing his eyes in suspicion. Starting to wonder what he was trying to say.
"It was just unexpected, is all. None of us thought you were gonna win. In fact, our classmates were rooting for Shiozaki to win." Kaminari said, shrugging with both hands up to his shoulders. Mineta gasped at the truth, shocked to hear that his classmates thought so little of him.
"What? They were?" Mineta asked, baffled by his classmates' faith in him. Kaminari nodded in response, causing a sad frown to form on Mineta's lips. The heroes watching the fight whispered amongst themselves as the match continued. Mineta's sad face was the focus of the media's cameras.
"Is he trying to get him to lose his motivation?" A hero theorized.
"Maybe he's trying to lower his guard?" Another hero guessed.
"Definitely. He's biding his time and waiting for the right moment to strike. He's smart." The hero agreed, nodding his head.
"Now, speaking of Shiozaki…." Kaminari said, suddenly changing topics to the surprise of everyone watching and listening.
"That girl was hot! Why'd you have to win and move on!" Kaminari shouted, pointing at Mineta. The heroes that had listened to their conversation collectively facepalmed at Kaminari's words.
"Or, he's just an idiot." The disappointed hero said, cringing. Mineta's sad expression changed in an instant. His face instantly lit up as he thought about Shiozaki.
"I know right! But, I couldn't just let her win. I gotta look good in front of all the ladies." Mineta grinned, feeling his nose bleed a tiny bit.
"Yeah. None of the girls are interested, dude." Kaminari scoffed, rolling his eyes. Mineta stepped back in shock at the audacity of his statement.
"Gaah! I can't believe you said that. Take that back!" Mineta gasped, covering his mouth in shock.
"No. She should've been my opponent. At least then, I'd have a better chance at getting her number!" Kaminari shouted, raising his voice.
"I could've gotten her number, too! She was just unconscious." Mineta shouted, raising his voice.
"Yeah, right. You? Getting her number? Ha! In what universe?" Kaminari ridiculed, denying Mineta's claim with a scoff. In the announcer room, Aizawa had leaned back and fallen asleep in his chair, while Present Mic banged his head against the table repeatedly. He winced and flung his arms in the air, unable to keep still.
"Hey, are you two gonna fight or are you gonna keep arguing!" Present Mic interjected, ending the argument between the two challengers. Kaminari and Mineta stared at the announcer room before staring back at each other.
"Oh don't worry about that. This fight will be over in two seconds!" Kaminari grinned, clenching his fists. Mineta glared intensely at Kaminari, knowing exactly what he was going to do.
"Alright. Say your prayers, Mineta! I'm ending this fight in an instant." Kaminari exclaimed. His skin started to spark electricity, causing Mineta to quickly react.
"Not if I can help it. Grape Rush!" Mineta shouted, launching his balls at Kaminari.
"1.3 million volts!" Kaminari shouted, releasing a shockwave of electricity out of his body. The shockwave headed towards Mineta, who saw the blast and gulped. Writhing in agony as he got electrocuted for a second time today. Kaminari smiled and felt his brain disappear as he overcharged his quirk. He was so out of it, he forgot to move out of the way of Mineta's balls. The balls quickly hit Kaminari in the head, sticking onto his face in an instant. The rest of Mineta's balls impacted the rest of his body. He felt the barrage make contact with every limb and found himself unable to move. In fact, he was absolutely covered in Mineta's balls. The absurd amount of balls sticking to him had turned him into a scarecrow. A rather dumb sounding scarecrow.
"Huh? What happ-hap-happ… apple…" Kaminari moaned, losing his ability to speak normally. Up in the hero stands, the heroes all stared down at the purple scarecrow and raised their eyebrows.
"They both used their quirks at the same time." A hero observed, wondering what was going to happen next. Kaminari could barely see anything around him except for Mineta. He stared across the battlefield and saw Mineta covered in smoke, coughing up a puff of smoke. His body was sizzling from the power of the electricity, causing Mineta's own brain to short circuit.
"Uhhhhhh…finland..." Mineta strained, falling to the ground in shock. Everyone watching had winced in reaction to the electric shock. The audience stared at the battleground in confusion, wondering if the fight was over.
"Uh, was that it? Is it over?" A hero asked, Looking at other heroes around them.
"Who won?" Another hero questioned, dumbfounded.
"Well, Midnight? Who won?" Cementoss asked, sitting patiently in his cement throne. Midnight put her hand up to her chin in thought. She heard Kaminari mumbling and stared at his current situation. She glanced at Mineta's body and saw he was face first on the ground, completely sizzling.
"Hmm? Kaminari is immobilized, but his electricity completely shocked Mineta's entire body." Midnight analyzed, unsure of Mineta's condition. The audience scratched their heads in confusion as well. Compared to the previous match, they felt this was a little lackluster. All the attention was focused on Kaminari. That is, until Mineta started to shuffle a bit on the ground. A few members of the audience stared at Mineta and noticed he was moving, causing them to gasp.
"Hey, look!" a hero pointed out, getting everyone's attention, "He's still breathing!" The hero shouted, blowing it out of proportion. In the announcer room, Present Mic looked down at the battlefield and felt his excitement go up.
"Unbelievable. Mineta's getting up!" Present Mic announced, surprising the audience once more. Mineta slowly opened up his eyes, looking around the battlefield in a daze. A couple bolts of leftover electricity zapped his body, causing him to wince in pain. Feeling absolutely horrible, he clenched his fists and slammed his hands on the ground. He tried desperately to stand back up, struggling to move.
"What? After getting shocked with that much electricity?" A hero exclaimed, shocked beyond belief. The audience watched as Mineta slowly, but surely, stood back up with smoke coming off his body. His eyes were white and the smoke that covered his body made him look like a burnt corpse.
"Wha…." Kaminari struggled to say in his stupidity, watching Mineta get back up. The audience gasped at the condition of Mineta's body. He looked like he just escaped the cemetary. Ami and a few other classmates gasped in shock at how damaged he looked from Kaminari's electrocution.
"Oh my God. He looks horrible." Ami gasped, covering her mouth. Her sad tone reflected the sympathy she felt for him. Perhaps this was the universe's way of punishing him for getting the girls to wear cheerleader outfits.
"Woah. It's alive." Sero said, looking at Mineta with a sympathetic look.
"Mineta, are you okay?" Midnight asked, getting Mineta's attention. Mineta heard the presence of a woman in his vicinity and snapped his head into place. He scanned the area for the source and saw Midnight staring at him from outside the battlefield. He saw the concerned look on her face and felt his mind pull itself together just enough to go back to old tactics. Mineta stared at Midnight's face before looking down at a different body part. Blood trickled down his nose as he stared at Midnight, causing him to smile with his mouth wide open. He turned his focus from Midnight to Kaminari and tried speaking to him.
"Kama-kama-kama. Kamen... Kaminari." Mineta slurred, barely finding the ability to speak. The dumb Kaminari stared at Mineta in confusion upon hearing his name, replying with a barely elligible moan.
Huh?" Kaminari asked, puzzled by the attention.
"Loo-loo-loo-look." Mineta said, weakly raising his hand. Midnight watched Mineta raise his hand up and saw his finger point in her direction. She raised her eyebrow at Mineta, realizing he was pointing at her.
"Hmm?" Midnight mumbled, wondering what he was pointing at her for. She didn't need to wonder for very long as seconds after pointing at her, blood came oozing out of Mineta's nose.
"Heehee...Boobies…" Mineta slurred, pointing at Midnight's scandalous costume. Kaminari followed where Mineta was pointing and smiled big and wide. Getting a look, he felt his nose bleed as well as his mouth smile big and wide.
"Haha yeah…" The dumb blond said, laughing like he was drugged. The two idiots in the battlefield laughed together in dumb camaraderie. Both of them found something they could both agree on, laughing away on the battlefield.
"Hehehe. Hehehe. Hahahahahahagahahahahaha!" Mineta and Kaminari laughed, causing the audience to collectively facepalm.
"Those two are really pushing the Festival's ratings." Present Mic said, cringing in his seat.
"Idiots." Aizawa sighed, hitting his head repeatedly on his desk.
Midnight stared blankly at them with silent contempt, watching them laugh with an unamused expression. Ignoring their idiocy, she raised her arm and waved her flag, announcing the end of the match.
"Well… Mineta is standing." Midnight said, shrugging her shoulders. She raised her flag and called the match, "Kaminari is immobilized and out of commission. Mineta wins." Midnight announced, to a stunned crowd of people that were just too shocked to speak. Most of them were amazed Mineta managed to withstand all that electricity. Class 1-A shook their heads in unison at their classmates' antics.
"Well, you heard her, folks. Let's give it up for Mineta and try to get these two functioning again." Present Mic announced, getting applause from the audience. Meanwhile, Class 1-A was feeling like they had suffered enough embarrassment for today.
"Wow. Those two are just…something else." Ami sighed, speechless. She got a nod in agreement from the angry blonde next to her.
"Mhm." He agreed, glaring at them with a frustrated growl.
"Compared to his fight with Shiozaki. This one was a joke." Sero said, frowning at the result of the match.
"Yeah. I'm not sure how to describe that match." Kirishima agreed, frowning as well. Tokoyami lowered his head and grumbled in his seat.
"A contest of stupidity." Tokoyami nodded, comparing this fight to an idiot contest.
"Hello! Haha!" Kaminari said, laughing with a big smile. The robots surrounded him, circling back and forth around him. Kaminari watched them circle him like sharks and greeted them each time they made a complete orbit around him. The medical robots had tank treads for legs as well as thin robotic limbs that twisted in multiple directions.
"How should we cut him out?" Robot B asked, following behind Robot A.
"The purple one is too weak to assist us." Robot A responded, its eyes lighting up different colors.
"Guess we'll have to do it ourselves." Robot B said, creating a small buzzsaw on its hand.
"No. Wait!" Robot A responded, raising its voice. Robot B's buzzsaw made contact with the purple balls and immediately got stuck, the saw stopped moving in an instant. Robot B could not compute this into words as it tried to pull the buzzsaw away from the purple balls.
"What?" Robot B questioned, tugging its arm back as hard as it could, it floored it into reverse at top speed and was still unable to pull the arm off of the purple balls. Switching into a full stop, the robot tripped itself and fell forwards.
"Uh oh." Robot B said, landing its entire body on the purple balls. The robot was now stuck with Kaminari, who was happy to see them.
"Huhuha. New friend." Kaminari exclaimed, laughing like an idiot. He couldn't stop himself from laughing hard at the robot struggling to move.
"Oh. I'm stuck." Robot B said, stating the obvious. It struggled to move around while attached to the purple balls, its surface was like stepping on the world's biggest piece of gum.
"They don't pay me enough for this job." Robot A sighed, facepalming.
"Wait. You're getting paid?" Robot B asked, looking at Robot A with zoomed in camera lenses. The audience watched on with amusement at the situation, laughing along with fits of laughter and giggles. Class 1-A was also laughing at the situation, feeling their moods improve tenfold. Jiro was having the time of her life laughing, getting a few looks from her surrounding classmates. Ami also couldn't help herself but giggle at the situation. Sero watched with arms folded, snickering in his seat. Bakugo kept a slight smile on his face, clearly entertained by the idiot and his new robot companion. Ami tried to control her giggling and wiped away a tear in her eye.
"Oh, man. I needed that." Ami smiled, catching her breath. She felt a whole lot better about today than earlier.
So, who's fighting next?" Kirishima asked, looking at Tokoyami. Tokoyami glanced at him and answered him.
"The next match will be against Iida and Tsu." Tokoyami stated, hyping Kirishima up.
"Awesome. I can't wait!" Kirishima exclaimed, enthusiastically.
"Let's hope the next pre-match with Iida and Tsu is better than this one." Sero said.
"I suppose this is where I leave." Iida said, adjusting his glasses with a firm smile. He stood up out of his seat and listened to his classmates give him waves.
"I should go, too." Tsu said, walking up behind Iida.
"Good luck, Iida." Izuku said, wishing Iida some luck.
"Do your best, Iida. You, too, Tsu." Ochaco said, wishing both of them good luck.
"Ribbit." Tsu said, appreciating their comments.
"Hey, Iida." Ami said, getting his attention, "Break a leg." Ami winked, giving him a thumbs up. Iida looked at her for two seconds with a solemn face and huffed, flashing a smile back at her and adjusting his glasses.
"Hardly appropriate word use but I'll do my best, Ami." Iida said, nodding at her.
"That's good to hear!" Ami nodded, placing her hand back on her lap. Iida wandered out of the rows of seats and walked up the steps towards the exit. Tsu followed shortly behind him, receiving her own farewells and good luck.
"Do your best, too, Tsu." Ami said, waving goodbye.
"Ribbit. Will do." Tsu replied, nodding her head. The two students exited the stands and entered the building, glancing at each other from time-to-time. There was a few minutes of awkward silence as they travelled down the stadium halls. Before they split off to their separate ways, they stopped and stared at each other.
"No hard feelings. Right, Asui?" Iida asked, standing tall. Tsu stared up at Iida with a poker face, nodding her head.
"Ribbit. Depends on how hard you hit me, Iida." Tsu said, touching her chin, "Also, call me, Tsu." Tsu added, correcting him. Iida smiled at her and nodded his head, bowing respectfully.
"Right, Tsu. Got it. My apologies." Iida apologized, bowing respectfully.
"May the best fighter win." Iida said, chopping the air. He nodded one last time and turned around. Tsu stood still and watched Iida walk away in silence, thinking to herself.
"He's so serious." Tsu stated, internally. Up in the stands, Bakugo stared at the battlefield with a glare. After 15 robots had arrived, Kaminari was finally free. From the ground at least. His body was still covered in the purple balls, thankfully, the robots towed him away by covering him in a blanket and dragging his body against the floor. After the robots cleared the area, the battlefield was left unoccupied to be reconstructed again.
"That was stupid." Bakugo thought, watching the robots leave. Now that the match was over, Bakugo glanced at Habanero with a serious face. She was still trying to hold in her laughter after watching 15 robots nearly fail at dragging Kaminari away. As he looked at her, a familiar feeling struck him. That feeling reminded him of what she said to him before the match started.
"I'll tell you after the match." Habanero's voice repeated inside his head.
"Hmph." He huffed, stopping himself from thinking. He rolled his eyes, took a deep breath, and spoke up.
"So, what happened to you while you were unconscious?" Bakugo abruptly asked, calmly getting Habanero's attention. Habanero looked at him with a confused expression on her face. There was a look of surprise on her face that annoyed Bakugo, looking at him as if she didn't just say she would tell him something after the match. He grumbled and flared his nostrils, jogging her memory.
"The snow day." Bakugo reminded her. Habanero reared her head back in response. She quickly adjusted herself and smiled back at him, nodding.
"I'm surprised you wanna know." She admitted, waving a hand through her hair.
"I'm feeling nostalgic." Bakugo countered, feeling a vein bulge on his forehead.
Ami looked at him incredulously with eyes half open.
"Well, all right. I guess I can tell you." She said, folding her arms together.
"You remember when I used to wear that puffy jacket all the time?" Ami asked, receiving a loud scoff from Bakugo.
"Of course. That stupid outfit that didn't fit you at all." Bakugo criticized, getting an offended look from Habanero.
"Mhm." She mumbled, crossing her eyes at him, "Anyways, Izuku and I were at the park with some other kids. He wanted me to play with him but I refused because, well, you know." Habanero implied, getting a nod in understanding from Bakugo. He knew what she meant.
"Since he didn't want me to feel bad, he decided to build a snowman after me. He was almost finished with it, too. But then, you showed up." She frowned, recalling the events in her head. Bakugo stared at her sad sigh and knew where this was going. Another thought went through his head as he tried remembering that day. That's right. He remembered now.
"Hey, Deku." Bakugo said, approaching Deku and his snowman. Izuku paused construction of his snowman and looked up at Bakugo with a hopeful smile.
"Oh, hey, Kacchan. You wanna help with my snowman?" Deku offered, staring at him with an innocent smile. Bakugo looked down at Deku and narrowed his eyes, feeling some anger rise from nowhere. He looked up and down the snowman and clenched his fists.
"So that's what this is? You call this a snowman? How stupid." Bakugo said, shoving his fist into the back of the snowman's head. Deku was first to react, gasping in horror at the murder taking place. He wasn't finished with just sticking his hand in the snowman's head. He flexed his arm and activated his quirk as best as he could despite the cold temperatures. He grinned as small explosions exited his hand, causing the whole head to explode. He felt a large bit of satisfaction after blowing up the snowman's head. Bakugo stared at the sad expression that formed in Deku's face and felt a sadistic smile form on his.
"My snowman..." Izuku frowned, feeling the tears rise up in his eyes. Bakugo stared at him and laughed, hearing his friends join him in his laughter.
"Hahaha. You should see your face, Deku." Bakugo laughed, pointing at him. Izuku looked at the hand pointing at his crying face and frowned. He wanted to do something, anything to get back at him for doing that. But without a quirk, he didn't know what to do. He chose instead to back down and do nothing, which only made Bakugo laugh more. Bakugo frowned a bit as he thought about that memory, something about it made him feel off for some reason. He shook his head and ignored his thoughts, focusing back on the gloomy expression on Habanero's face.
"So, the snowman was for you?" Bakugo questioned, getting a quick nod from Habanero.
"Uh huh." Habanero nodded, confirming his assumptions. He didn't know that then, but the more he thought about it, it made sense.
"...Looked nothing like you." He admitted, causing Habanero to look at him incredulously.
"Kacchan, we were five." Habanero replied, justifying Deku's snowman skills. Bakugo rolled his eyes and scoffed.
"Yeah, so? I made a better snowman when I was four." Bakugo boasted, getting a small chuckle from Habanero. She didn't believe him in the slightest, but she decided she'd take his word for it. Her mood slightly increased after hearing that, even if it wasn't meant to be funny. Bakugo looked away for a bit and reexamined what he heard, staying quiet for a few seconds. The snowman was meant to be her? The glare in his eyes eased up a bit as he thought about it. That feeling he had felt before started to show up again. He frowned a bit as he thought about it more. That feeling was getting on his nerves. That feeling of regret. Wait, what? He flared his nostrils and pushed that thought away, shaking his head in denial. Nope. Not today.
"Even if you murdered Izzy's snowman, at least you left the body alone." Habanero said, looking for something positive in that memory. Bakugo heard a snicker come from Habanero, causing him to look back at her with his eyes raised.
"What was so funny?" He thought, looking at her radiant smile.
"The hell are you laughing at?"
"I just remembered the face you made when I put snow down your shirt." Ami giggled, covering her mouth in amusement. Bakugo stared at her and felt his eye twitch, the feeling he felt before got replaced with his anger. He remembered that part, too. He cringed at the feeling when it happened. Habanero had avenged Deku and he didn't even see it coming. It was the last time he'd have his guard down around her. She stopped giggling at his expense and resumed reminiscing.
"Then afterwards, once you put snow down my back in retaliation, that was when my quirk self activated." She recalled, slightly frowning again. This time though, she stopped frowning and returned to her smile.
"After you made fun of me and left, I woke up, so, that's pretty much all that replayed in my head while I was unconscious." Habanero explained, scratching the side of her head. She smiled and waved her hand through her hair, pulling it back behind her ear.
"Even if the memory isn't exactly happy. It was still a good memory for me. It was one of the first times I ever fought back against you." Habanero said, getting a nod from Bakugo.
That much was true that day for Bakugo. It wasn't the first time she fought back, but it was the most embarrassing. Though he'd never say it, he was impressed by that sudden attack. He hid the frown on his face when he remembered that scared look in her eyes after she had breathed fire near him. He wasn't expecting that kind of response to getting snow down her back. Back then, that was one of the rare times he ever got to see her use her fire in front of him, even if it was technically against her will. The fire was barely a foot long, but still, it was impressive. But he was never going to admit that to her. He remembered her immediate reaction to her fire breathing and stayed silent.
"I'm sorry." Habanero sniffled, hiding her mouth with her oversized jacket. Bakugo remembered hearing those words from her and how he felt hearing them. He couldn't believe she'd apologize about hurting him. Him.
It's strange. When that first happened to him, he didn't know how to react for a whole ten seconds. That apology pissed him off. As if she could ever do anything to hurt him. Maybe that's why he was angry after hearing it. But now? Whenever he thought about that memory it was like he was seeing it in a new light. That sad look on her face annoyed him greatly, it wasn't as satisfying as seeing Deku's sad face. He thought about that memory, and felt a new emotion fill his mind. It was that damn feeling again. Seeing Deku sad amused him, yet it was different with Habanero. Like it was something he didn't want to see. He tensed his muscles and shook his head, clearing his head in frustration.
"I'm well aware." Bakugo admitted, returning to reality. He ignored the thoughts he just had and suppressed that feeling of regret inside.
"So, you remember what happened?" Habanero asked, looking at Bakugo in surprise.
"Yeah. I do." Bakugo nodded, acknowledging the part where he made fun of her flames and left. However, there was one part of that memory that she neglected to mention, "And I also remember coming back for you." Bakugo smirked menacingly, getting a pessimistic look from Habanero. Habanero knew exactly what he was talking about and glared at him with an unamused face.
"If you can even call it that." She objected, getting an irritated look from Bakugo.
"I helped you stand, didn't I?" He asked, getting annoyed.
"Hmph." Habanero whimpered, grimacing in denial, "Only after you threw a snowball at my face." Habanero recalled, thinking back to that moment. Ami had stayed on the ground for a couple minutes, composing herself. Her recent quirk outburst had warmed her insides, no longer feeling the slightest bit of cold from the snow. She leaned her body up off the ground and sat on the ground with a frown, shaking in fear. As she sat there for a minute, she heard footsteps coming towards her. She raised her head up and wiped her tears away, expecting to see her brother. She turned her head towards the person making those steps and felt her eyes widen.
"K-Kacchan." Ami questioned, staring up at a very pissed off Bakugo. He stared down at her with an intense glare, making Ami feel very small.
"Aren't you gonna get up already, Habanero?" Bakugo asked, raising an eyebrow at her.
"...Yes." Ami replied, weakly. Bakugo listened to her weak reply and rolled his eyes.
"Then do it." He ordered. Ami looked up at him and sniffled. She tried to stand up but found it difficult in the slippery snow.
"I can't…" Ami admitted. As much as she wanted to. She was both too weak and too afraid of falling.
"Seriously?" Bakugo asked, scoffing at her, "Stop acting so weak." He said, causing Ami to flinch in response. He stared at her reaction and stopped glaring at her for a split second before returning. He took a deep breath and exhaled in disappointment.
"Here." Bakugo said, holding his hand out. Ami looked up at the hand and paused. She looked at it with confusion, like she'd never been offered a hand before. I mean, it was true, but she knew the gesture. She stared at the hand with skepticism. This was Kacchan she was dealing with, even if it's just his hand. She raised her hand towards him in hesitation, waiting for him to do something. Maybe try to blow her hand up or push her over or something. Within a few seconds, she made contact with his hand. She looked at him with shock, her mind going into a blur. Bakugo grabbed her hand and pulled, helping her get up. Ami got up to her feet and was finally standing up. She was baffled that Bakugo actually helped her up, staring at Bakugo with a thankful look. He looked at her with a large grin and let go of her hand, his face twisting in deception.
"Surprise." Bakugo said, pulling his other hand forward and throwing a snowball at her face. Ami closed her eyes and recoiled from the snowball. Feeling the impact freeze her face. This time, however, her quirk didn't activate much to her relief. Bakugo couldn't stop himself from laughing. Honestly, he was aiming for the chest, but the face was a good spot, too. Ami looked at him with betrayal in her eyes and glared at him, seething in rage.
"You're such a jerk!" She shouted, flailing her hands at him in anger. Bakugo blocked her weak smacks with just his arm, laughing at her torment. The memory of that moment ended in Ami's mind, returning to the present with a sour expression.
"Hehe." Bakugo laughed, remembering her reaction.
"You're still laughing!" Ami exclaimed, glaring at Bakugo. Bakugo collected himself and kept the grin on his lips. It may have been mean but it was funny to him.
"What do you want from me? Expecting an apology? Good luck hearing one from me, Habanero." Bakugo scoffed, shrugging his shoulders. Ami looked at him with disapproval and shook her head in response.
"I'm not. I know better than to ask for an apology from you. I'm shocked you can even say the word without melting." Ami said, getting Bakugo to look at her questionably.
"The hell is that supposed to mean?" He asked. Ami crossed her arms and held her nose up in the air in disappointment, avoiding his glare.
"What do you think it means?" She questioned, rhetorically.
"Hmm…" Bakugo groaned, composing his own anger, "You really know how to get on my nerves, Habanero." Bakugo admitted, watching as a grin appeared on Habanero's face.
"I learned from the best." She teased, insinuating she got it from him. He cracked a grin upon hearing that.
"Sure." He said, grinning back at her. The two stared at each other with an equal look of amusement towards the other. After two seconds passed, Bakugo quickly realized they were both now grinning at each other and looked away. Ami did the same, realizing at the same time. Ami's face went red in embarrassment as she did. Bakugo had a lighter red on his face, equally as embarrassed. The awkwardness of it all kept them quiet as they looked at other things around them. A couple minutes later and the fires had kicked up on the battlefield, signaling the start of another match.
"Welcome back, everybody! It's the start of the second pre-match! On this side, we have our speedy combatant defending his spot on the bracket, it's Tenya Iida!" Present Mic announced, receiving loud cheers from the audience.
"And on this side, fighting to take Iida's spot on the bracket, it's Tsuyu Asui!" Present Mic announced, receiving more applause. The two contestants made their way to the battlefield, entering the ring with determined faces.
Iida kept a serious face aimed at Tsu. He got on one knee and stretched, preparing his muscles for the match. He stood back up and revved his engines, hearing them roar. He was ready to take her on. Tsuyu Asui was a friend and a very capable fighter. He knew that he couldn't go into this fight unprepared or without a plan.
"I'll have to be careful on this one. Her tongue has a twenty meter range and she can easily lift me up in the air if I'm not fast enough." Iida thought, clenching his fists.
"I can't just get up close to her and hope for a good shot, she'll likely have prepared for that. I'll have to try and disorient her first." Iida thought.
"Alright. I'm ready." Iida said, tensing his muscles.
"Ready? Start!" Present Mic announced. Iida heard the match start and was immediately met with a tongue flying straight towards him. He gritted his teeth and raised his eyes at the incoming tongue. Goosebumps shot through him, forcing him to act. He quickly ducked out of the way, hearing a whipping sound go by his hair.
"She can reach that far?!" Iida thought, panicking. He counted the size of the battlefield in his head. It was the perfect size for Tsu. Iida stood back up and stared at Tsu. He bared his teeth and saw her tongue fly towards him for a second time. His eyes widened in fear of getting whipped and jumped to the side, escaping her assault. He clenched his fists on the ground and stood up.
"I have to get closer or else she might actually grab onto me." Iida thought, knowing how her quirk worked. He frowned at the thought of getting grabbed by her tongue.
"If she touches me at all with her tongue then I'm done for." He thought, knowing how much weight she can lift with just her tongue. Iida knew what dangers awaited him if she touched him. There was no doubt in his mind that she would be able to easily lift him up. After all, she was easily able to carry Ami and Mineta with only her tongue during the Cavalry Battle.
Tsu launched her tongue towards Iida for a third time, snapping him from his thoughts. Her tongue moved as fast as a whip. Luckily, his reflexes were allowing him to react in time. Iida felt like a fly trying to avoid the frog tongue. Tsu whipped her tongue several times towards Iida, making it difficult for him to dodge.
"I just need to find the right timing." Iida thought, dodging her tongue. Each time he ducked, jumped, or rolled away from her tongue, Iida felt his stamina slowly decrease.
"No. I can't get tired now." Iida strained, feeling his head start to sweat. He dodged another swipe from her tongue and narrowed his eyes. Iida looked up at Tsu and noticed her forehead was also slightly sweating. Or was that her mucus? Iida pushed that thought away, having no time for specifics. All he knew for sure was that she was getting tired launching her tongue at him as well. All he had to do now was outlast her.
"C'mon. C'mon. C'mon." Iida thought, noticing the time it took for her tongue to reach him was getting slower and slower. Iida glared at Tsu and wiped the sweat off his forehead, waiting for her next attack.
"There." Iida said, taking the chance to get closer. He fired off his engines and boosted forward with a solemn stare. Tsu saw the look on Iida's face and brought her tongue up to the entrance of her lips, preparing to launch. She looked at the incredibly fast fighter and prepared for a direct assault, readying her counterattack. Iida saw her stance change and knew she was ready to launch her tongue at him. He nodded to himself, expecting her move. All he did was become an easier target for Tsu. But getting this close was still a part of his plan.
Just as Tsu was about to launch her tongue at Iida, he quickly changed directions. Tsu raised her eyebrow at his sudden change in direction, catching her by surprise. She bit her tongue and watched as Iida started to run to the side.
"He stopped?" Tsu questioned, watching Iida run to the side. She watched Iida run around her and analyzed his movements, turning around several times in order to get a glimpse at him. She quickly noticed Iida was gaining in speed as he ran laps around her. Following his movements as best she could, she watched Iida's figure get blurrier and blurrier. The audience was cheering in excitement at the scene. Many heroes were impressed with the amount of speed he was gaining in such a short little time and with such a small area.
"No way. He's running so fast I can't keep up with him. This is just like in the Cavalry Battle." A hero exclaimed, holding onto his jaw.
"That's because he's Ingenium's younger brother." The hero next to him explained, getting a look of astonishment from the hero.
"Oh. That explains the engines. Ingenium is super fast." The hero said, complimenting Iida's speed.
In the hero stands, Midoriya watched Iida loop around Tsu with extreme speed and felt excited. Ochaco watched Iida running and reminded her of his speed during the USJ incident. The two cheered on Iida as he ran laps around Tsu. Ami was amazed by Iida's speed and tried her best to follow him as well.
"Iida's running circles around Tsu." Ami said in awe.
"I wonder if he'll use that one move, Reciproburst?" Ami thought, wondering to herself.
"Why's he running around her like that?" Sero questioned. Ami glanced at Sero and answered with her own explanation.
"He's trying to confuse her by forcing her eyes to keep track of him. It's sort of like what happened in Mineta's match." Ami explained, pointing her finger upwards.
"Makes sense." Sero nodded, understanding what she meant.
Iida stared at Tsu as he ran around her in a blur. He examined her facial expressions and furrowed his eyebrows, taking note of the lack of a reaction. He couldn't tell if she was getting confused or not. Tsu's poker face was far superior to his own. He shrugged and revved his engines, shifting gears to go even faster. Tsu's face makes it difficult to see just what she's thinking, a fact he had accidentally overlooked. Nevertheless he'd have to hope it would work.
Tsu didn't bother keeping track of Iida as he increased his speed. Instead of tracking him visually, she used sound. Listening to his steps as he touched the concrete. She understood what Iida was trying to do. There was no chance she'd be able to track Iida while he was running laps around her. Clearly he was trying to disorient her and find an opening.
"I need to get him to act." Tsu thought, crouching down to all fours. She kept her ears open for an opening and remained calm. Coming up with a plan of her own.
Iida stared at Tsu and watched as she crouched down onto all fours. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth, looking serious. He observed her reaction to his speed and gained some information. It was hard to tell Tsu's facial expressions. Iida watched her lips move and raised his eyes, focusing on them. A feeling in his guts rose up as he stared at her.
"Can she really catch me while running this fast?" Iida thought, thinking about real life frogs. He wondered just how much she was capable of doing that other people couldn't. He clenched harder on his fists and knew he'd have to act fast. He made one final lap around Tsu and made sure he was directly behind her, jumping into action.
"Now!" Iida shouted internally, stopping his run and jumping towards her with his leg raised.
Tsu heard the sound of his running come to a stop and knew what he was doing. She looked at the ground and pounced, jumping high up in the air. Iida watched as Tsu jumped high into the air and felt his jaw drop in surprise. The audience gasped at the high jump, not expecting how high she went. Iida landed on the ground where Tsu once stood and tensed his muscles. A sudden realization had crossed his mind. Tsu wasn't going to try and grab him while he was circling her. She baited him and he fell for it.
"Ribbit." Tsu said, twisting her body around while in midair. She looked down at the floor as she fell and made eye contact with Iida. She saw the shock in his face and launched her tongue at him. Iida's senses went off as he saw the tongue come closer to him.
He tensed his body and knew running away was impossible. He made split second decisions in his head and thought of an idea. He narrowed his eyes and stayed determined. He may be able to pull off a victory by doing this. However, one wrong move and he'd be out of the bracket.
Iida stared at the approaching tongue and jumped towards it, raising his leg forward as if to try and kick it away. He gritted his teeth and prepared himself for contact. The tongue touched Iida's leg, wrapping around it in quick succession. Mission accomplished. He put on an act and pretended to be shocked, hiding his grin.
Tsu dropped to the ground on all fours, landing effortlessly on the concrete. She raised her head up at Iida and flicked her tongue upward, bringing Iida leg first into the air. She assessed his weight and calculated in her head the best position to fling him out of the battlefield. Iida flailed around in the air, unable to hold back yelling in the air. As he was flung around in the air, he silently prepared his counterattack. He closed his eyes and prepared himself for what he was about to do.
"Sorry, Tsu." Iida apologized, revving up his engines. The engines accelerated in his legs, glowing red from the boost in power. Tsu felt a strange warm sensation on her tongue and looked up at Iida. She looked at Iida in confusion and noticed the glow coming off his engines. She gasped, realizing his true intentions. That's why he tried to kick her tongue away, lida purposely made sure her tongue would grab onto his leg.
She felt the heat emanating off of the engine in Iida's leg, giving her discomfort. The heat dried up her tongue and irritated the flesh, causing Tsu to wince. There was no way she'd be able to fling Iida with the burning sensation on her tongue. She recoiled and undid her grasp on his leg, letting go of him to free herself from the burn. Iida felt her grip on him slip away and revved his engines, feeling flames emit from his pipes. Tsu felt a single tear escape her eye from the discomfort and looked at her tongue. Her eyes widened upon seeing the sizzle coming off of her tongue. So that's what happens to a frog when it's struck by lightning.
Oooo." Ami winced, staring at the sizzle coming off of Tsu's tongue. The audience had similar sentiments, cringing in their seats as Tsu suffered the worst tongue burn in her life.
Without the tongue holding him up, Iida fell to the floor. The flames from his engines acted as a rocket boost, bringing him to the ground faster. He landed on his feet and stuck the landing. He quickly raised his head towards Tsu and charged towards her with his engines at full blast.
"Reciproburst!" Iida shouted, creating blue flames from his engines. Tsu retracted her burnt tongue back into her mouth and was instantly face-to-face with Iida. He instantly reached Tsu's position before she could even react and grabbed her shoulders. Iida narrowed his eyes and focused, pushing her whole body backwards. Tsu felt her shoes skid against the ground and braced herself. She frowned and tensed her shoulders, resisting as best she could.
She struggled to free herself from his grasp until he suddenly stopped.
"Hmm?" Tsu moaned, looking at Iida's tired face, "You stopped?" Tsu said, questionably. She didn't take long to realize why, looking down at the floor beneath her feet. Iida was standing on the border of the battlefield and she was outside it. Tsu felt her legs wobble from the speed and fell to the floor.
"Asui is outside the ring! Iida wins the match!" Midnight exclaimed, announcing his victory. Iida felt the flames on his engines recede, blowing smoke out of his exhaust pipes. He panted heavily and held onto his knees in exhaustion, catching his breath. Tsu was blown away by how quickly that fight had ended with just a simple mistake. If she had only aimed higher and wrapped her tongue around Iida's waist, this fight might have ended differently. After a few seconds of catching his breath, Iida recovered enough and looked down at Tsu.
"You fought incredibly, Tsu." Iida said, bowing his head in respect. Tsu leaned her head up and put a hand on her chin, cracking a smile at him.
"You really got me at the last minute there." Tsu commended, causing Iida to widen his eyes. A look of worry flashed across his face.
"Your tongue. Are you feeling okay? I didn't give you third degree burns, did I?" Iida asked, noticeably concerned. Tsu shook her head in response, dispelling any fears of permanent injury from Iida.
"It was only a small part of my tongue that got burned. I should be fine after seeing Recovery Girl." Tsu assured him, bringing him much needed relief. He was feeling bad about having to resort to such a move to free himself.
"That's a relief." Iida smiled, sighing in relief. He dropped his smile and adopted a more serious frown.
"I'm sorry for burning your tongue." He apologized.
"That's okay, Iida. No need to apologize. We're supposed to hurt each other." Tsu assured, noticing something about the match.
"Now that I think about it, you didn't really try to hurt me much." Tsu said, causing Iida to squirm.
"Oh, well, you see. I didn't think I needed to win by seriously injuring you. To be honest, I was more focused on avoiding your tongue rather than focusing on offense. I thought it best to avoid a fight and ring you out instead. But, rest assured, I wasn't holding back just because you're my friend. I was just being cautious to avoid your tongue." Iida said.
"I see. Thank you, Iida." Tsu said, nodding her head with a smile. Iida nodded his head and accepted her words. He looked down at her and brought his hand out.
"Need a hand?" Iida asked, getting a nod from Tsu.
"Ribbit." Tsu said, nodding in acceptance. She grabbed his hand and was pulled up off the ground by Iida. Once they were both standing, the two students shook hands with respect.
"It was a good match." Iida said.
"Absolutely." Tsu agreed, shaking his hand.
"What a great display of Friendship! Iida keeps his spot in the bracket. He now moves onto the next match. You might wanna use the bathroom now, folks. The next match will be starting soon!" Present Mic announced.
Off in the student section of the stadium, a girl with pink hair watched the fight with intense optimism. She grinned widely and swiped her hands together in excited anticipation. The boy with engine legs won his match, which means he's going up against her next. The person he was fighting next was her, Mei Hatsume.
She stood up from her seat and cracked her knuckles, excited to show the world her stuff. And, even better, she had the perfect target to show off her gear with.
"Hehehe. Finally, I can show off my babies." Mei smiled, wandering towards the exit.
Inside the stadium, Iida had taken the time to relax for his next match. He stared at the tv screen in his waiting room and saw who he was up against. Mei Hatsume from the Support Course. He prepared himself for the next match and smiled with pride. He was still excited from winning his first match. Thinking about winning the festival gave him confidence. That confidence he felt made him think about his family. More specifically, his elder brother. He pulled his phone out and stared at his contacts, hesitating for a second. He contemplated calling and decided against it. He flared his nostrils and shrugged, getting up from his seat.
"I'll call later." Iida said, making a mental note to remind himself later. He took a deep breath and smiled, ready for the next match.
"Brother, I hope you're watching." Iida thought, exiting the waiting room.
Hosu City
The streets were calm in the busy city. Most of its citizens were enjoying the day. Spending time with family, shopping, or watching the Sports Festival on television. Most citizens were completely unaware of what was occurring in an alleyway between two buildings. All except for one.
A lone figure stood silently in the dark alleyway. His clothes were full of rips and tears, like it had seen battle numerous times and then restitched together. The figure clenched the blades in his hands, listening to them skid on the pavement. A blood stain was on one of the blades. The figure took notice of the blood on his blade and leaned forward, examining the edge. He brought the blade closer to his mouth and sniffed it. Blood. Sniffing the familiar smell was intoxicating. He licked his lips and extended his tongue, touching the blade's serrated tip.
The figure tasted the blood on his tongue and drank it, savoring its taste. The figure licked the blade clean of any blood, bringing a twisted smile to his face. Groans emanated from the ground beneath the figure, getting his undivided attention. A hero in a bright red costume stared at him with fear. The hero was unable to move, unable to use his quirk, unable to do anything. The figure stared at the hero as he tried with all his strength to move but to no avail.
"Scum like you are better off dead."
"You won't get away. Someone will stop you." The hero said, coughing up blood.
"You're right. Someone will stop me…." The figure said, placing his boot on top of the man's chest.
"But it won't be from a false hero like you." The figure said, dropping his blade downward. The blade pierced the man's chest, sending shockwaves throughout his body. The last bit of air left the hero's lungs, lying there frozen in a pool of blood. The figure pulled his sword out of the hero's chest and smiled, watching as the last light in the hero's eyes vanished. The sounds of the city were all that he heard now. The figure once again brought the blade towards his mouth, smelling the blood on his blade. He closed his eyes and prepared to taste it, that is, until he heard a sound.
Clack. Clack. Clack.
A tapping sound put a stop to his actions. He looked around the alleyway and scanned it for any sign of life. He gritted his teeth and snarled in frustration. That damn clacking sound. This was the fourth time he heard it. The clacking. He had noticed it the first time he came to Hosu. After he had made his first kill in the city, he had a strange feeling. That feeling he was being watched. He didn't hear it most of the time during the day. Yet, whenever he was working he would hear it. That damned clacking.
Enough experience with tailing others in the past allowed him to know one thing about his situation. Someone or something was watching him. That much he could tell. But if someone was watching him, why not call the police? Whatever it was, it was curious. And it wasn't ratting him out. Whoever it was, was obviously getting some enjoyment out of watching him. The thing seemed to be mostly content with watching him work. Maybe it wondered why he was here. Or maybe it was spying on him. Either way, he hated sensing its presence.
The figure clenched his grip on his blades, feeling anger rising up inside him. Why won't it show itself? Is it still here? Still listening? He stood there and meditated, closing his eyes. He listened to the sounds around him, waiting for a change. The thing was still here, he could feel it. As he concentrated, a wet sensation dampened his shoes, snapping his focus. He opened his eyes and looked down at the floor, only to realize it was the pool of blood from the deceased hero. He growled in annoyance at the pool of blood that flowed beneath his shoes. He stared into the blood and noticed it was reflecting the background behind him. Staring at the blood in silence, he was about to look away. However, before he did, he saw it in the reflection of the blood. The figure raised his eyes at the reflection, seeing a floating pair of purple eyes staring at him from above. Of course. It was above him.
"Found you." The figure grinned, clenching his blades. He took a deep breath and prepared himself for another fight. He quickly turned around and roared, throwing the blade towards the sky. The floating eyes stared at the blade and reared back, temporarily uncloaking itself. The large creature hissed at him as his blade flew towards it. The lone figure stared up at the uncloaked creature and raised his eyes in surprise. It was big and feline. Compared to the rest of its body, it's tail was nearly skeletal. What made it even uglier was the fact its brain was quite literally exposed. He wasn't expecting it to look like that.
The creature's invisibility wore off for a split second as it readjusted itself on the apartment walls. He watched as the cat creature raised its skeleton tail forward and lunged its bladed tip toward the blade. The figure watched in astonishment as the creature's tail made contact with his blade, smacking away with a clacking sound. The blade bounced off the tail and flew off to the side, surprising the lone figure. The man stared at the creature and groaned in frustration. He watched as the beast became fully invisible again, glaring at him with its purple eyes before they too had vanished. He heard the invisible cat creature claw up the wall and disappear, leaving him alone. The man in the alleyway snarled at the location of where the invisible creature was. He had found the source of that clacking sound, but at what cost? He stared up at the sky where the creature once was and found himself in a state of confusion and bewilderment. More questions than answers filled his mind, annoying him beyond comparison. He put that aside and stared up at the walls in anger.
"I don't know who you are. Or what you are. But stay out of my way, or else my blade won't miss so easily next time." The figure growled, raising his voice in the alleyway. Feeling that whatever he saw was no longer nearby, he relaxed his muscles. He looked around the ground for his blade and wandered towards it. He knelt down and grabbed it, examining the blade. There wasn't any blood, causing him to get frustrated. Unbeknownst to him, another person had spotted him in the streets. It was another hero. One covered in a full body suit of silver armor with engines on his legs.
Author's Notes:
Hello, everyone! Thank you all for reading this chapter! I actually got everything done this week for College so I was actually able to complete and release this chapter on Friday! I hope all of you had a wonderful October and a spooky Halloween. This year's Halloween was far better than last years. A lot of kids knocked. Sorry for taking so long with this chapter. Right now, my feelings have improved greatly. I'm not as sad anymore and like I said in my profile, I'm catching up to College. With that all said, let's begin. Settle down because I have a lot to say for the 19th time.
This chapter marks a special occasion. Season 2 of Twin Heroes is now longer than the first season. Very cool. In this chapter, Mineta and Kaminari fought. Ami and Bakugo remembered some childhood memories. And Tsu and Iida fought with mutual respect. This chapter and the last chapter were originally meant to be one big chapter, however, sad personal stuff happened. Mineta and Kaminari's match was always going to result in both of them turning into idiots in the end. I just needed to think of a way for it to happen. This fight was the result of that. It's not the best but I think It turned out alright.
Throughout the first half of this chapter, there was a little bit of friendly conversation going on between Ami and Bakugo. Bakugo is starting to feel bad about his past. As I mentioned before, Bakugo is a smart guy. He knows what he's doing 9 out of 10 times. Izuku being nice to him wasn't enough to get him to realize he wanted to be friends with him. So adding a twin to the mix and it becomes even more obvious to Bakugo that they are his friends. Over time the hostility will slightly decrease as the season continues but it won't be so easy. Bakugo will still act like himself. Albeit he'll have a bit more restraint from here on out. After Mineta vs Kaminari I also expanded on Ami's flashback while unconscious in chapter 17. This time there was more focus on the feelings Bakugo had at the time. Bakugo helping her up and immediately snowballing her in the face was something I came up with last week and thought it would be funny.
Iida vs Tsu was even more difficult to think up than Mineta vs Shiozaki. I had a really tough time planning out how this fight would go. I had to rework it several times and everything. Writer's block is actual evil. Iida is all running and stuff and Tsu is all tongue and stuff. That's already difficult to work with. I'm satisfied with how the fight turned out but I know I can do better.
Now you're all probably wondering what that last bit was. That was originally the beginning of the next chapter. I decided to put it at the end of this one because it seemed more fitting as an after credit scene than an opening scene. Plus I wanted to see what y'all have to say about the return of the Nomu made for this fanfic. Not a lot of people asked me any questions about Ravage when she was first revealed. In summary, this scene was meant to show you that Ravage was watching Stain kill people from afar. For what purpose? You'll see. I have plans for Ravage that will make her more important to the plot later. She will play a massive role in the next arc so be prepared for that.
That was pretty much all I had to say about the chapter. Moving onto reviews and Dms on . I really appreciate the kindness from everyone who talked to me after I said I was dealing with the loss of my dog. In the last chapter, I didn't realize how many flashbacks I put in it until I read it myself. Because these chapters were originally one, the flashbacks were less of a problem. So when I split it in half, the flashbacks became a lot more obvious. I'm sorry about adding that many flashbacks, I don't plan on putting that many in a chapter unless it was in the original episode.
One thing I'm glad people noticed in the last chapter was the references to things.
Yes, Mineta's vision of what Ami would do was a Terminator reference. Her dialogue in that vision was also a reference to Snakes on a Plane. A timeless classic I'm sure everyone loves. All Might's line about the UA Gift Shop is also a reference to Mass Effect. If you played Mass Effect 2, then you probably know what the original line is.
Now answering the review from Archive. I appreciate the condolences to my pets. I can't thank you all enough for the support. I admit the actual Twin Midoriya fanfics out there are a little weird, I don't think they're bad. I kinda like how weird and different some of them are. But huge differences that change the direction of the entire series are kind of a turn off. I don't think I will do that in this story. If anything, I will add things that act as a sort of extension to the series. Any side plots I add won't completely deviate from canon. I was also a little surprised to see how many Twin Midoriya fics are dead. It really makes me sad to see a story with a wonderful plot spontaneously die all of a sudden.
Also Ami will not be getting One For All in this story. That's not something I want to happen though it would be interesting to see. Ami will stay by herself and work with only her quirk. So no One For All for Ami. And don't worry about Ami lacking in ability, the next arc will cover Ami's abilities and you'll get to see how she will use them. And finally, thanks for giving a guess on what Wyverns quirk is. Right now, we're far from reaching that point in the story where I will fully explain what it is. Your guess about his quirk was the closest guess so far, but it's not it. You are warm though, so, good job. I appreciate your review and thank you for reading.
And finally, the question people have been waiting for. Can Ami eat Aoyama's lasers or not? After carefully reading through a lot of yes or no's and the occasional paragraph, I've decided Ami will be able to eat Aoyama's lasers. However, there will be a drawback to this. A laser shot to the face is never a good idea even if your power is eating flames. I have an idea about how that match will go but it will most likely be very short. This fight will likely appear in the next chapter so thanks for all the responses!
I wasn't going to mention this now but after having to delay the last two chapters I feel I should update you all on the eventual romance. I'm honestly surprised how many people want Ami to be shipped with another student. I've received far more questions and suggestions for who Ami should be with than any other topic. In fact, the real shock to me is how one sided the vote turned out to be. Out of all the students Ami could end up with, only one student instantly received a large amount of votes ever since I asked for opinions all the way back to season 1. Even now, the majority of votes are for one particular person. I thought there would be more picks for other students but surprisingly enough, a lot of you are surprisingly onboard with seeing her get together with this person. Because of how one-sided the vote was, I've been dropping subtle hints here and there.
At least I think the hints I'm dropping are subtle. My ADHD makes me believe I'm subtle. I don't know if anyone's seen my hints but I have been hinting who it is. As of right now, it's no contest who you all picked. Just like with Ami's hero name being announced in the Author's Notes. Should I reveal who Ami will be with in the Author's Notes of the next chapter? The in-universe reveal of romantic feelings will probably appear in maybe 3-4 chapters from now, which will be a long time from now judging by the speed I take to release these chapters. So, should I spill in the next chapter? I say this because so many people have already given me the same choice in the past months. I feel like it's only right to reveal the romance option here for the people who aren't actively dming me about the subject. I don't want to get hopes up for the people who are thinking one person when it's actually going to be another person. And I think at this point, more people are starting to see or are realizing who it is.
This is an important question so please tell me what you think in reviews.
Not gonna lie, I don't have a clue about how romance fanfics work. I understand how romance starts and all that stuff from watching films. But I don't read a lot of romance fics for My Hero Academia. I've only mainly read action stories. If you're a fellow fanfic writer that is familiar with writing romance, it'd be a great help if you said something in a review or in DMs. Anyways, if you have any other ideas and suggestions please write them in your reviews or DM me on Archive or Fanfiction.
That's all I have to say about this chapter and the last. Once again, thank you all for reading. Please leave suggestions and ideas and don't forget to guess what Wyvern's quirk is or what Ravage is. Please feel free to point out any mistakes, continuity errors, spelling errors, grammar, or missing details. Thanks for reading and have a good day! Also have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
