Hosu City - Outside the Hospital
A man sat alone in the front seat of his car. It was an inconspicuous car for officers that didn't want to be seen. That's why the detective chose it. He wanted to avoid attention in case media vans were already there. Thankfully, that morning was quiet. Empty. And by the time he left the hospital, the place was still quiet. He took the time to relax and basked in the peaceful setting. He wished he had more time to do this, but the investigation needed to go on. He's had enough sleepless nights already in the past two weeks. He knew as soon as the break was over, the work would have to get done. Not soon after his break, his phone started ringing. The peaceful quiet was replaced by the sound of his phone loudly vibrating in his pocket, forcing his attention.
"This is Tsukauchi." The detective announced, answering his ringing phone. He didn't bother checking to see the caller ID. He had a feeling who it was detective held his phone up to his ear and silently closed the door of his car.
"Detective." The voice acknowledged with respect, "Did I catch you in a bad time?" The voice asked.
"No, I just left the hospital." Tsukauchi replied, scanning the hospital parking lot. The problem with an inconspicuous car was the lack of noise canceling in the vehicle. The emptiness of the parking lot did make him feel better about talking openly. After a quick scan and seeing no one around, he continued the call. He kept a small frown on his face and leaned into his seat, relaxing into it as the stoic voice on the other line continued.
"How's he doing?" The voice asked. Tsukauchi expected the question and yet he still had trouble with the words. The timing couldn't have been worse, either. Ingenium's role in the investigation wasn't much, but his speed could have helped a lot. He was relieved to know he had survived, but the same couldn't be said for the other hero in that alley.
"Better than the first night at least. Though I can't say he's perfectly healthy. He's likely not going to leave anytime soon." He answered, honestly.
"So is what the news is saying true? About his injuries…and Rocket?" The voice asked, hoping what he heard to be false.
"Unfortunately…" Tsukauchi answered, causing the person on the other line to audibly groan in response.
"Damn." The voice said, "Did you get to talk with him at least?"
"I did. He told me what happened himself." Tsukauchi stated with a grimace. Flashes of the room Ingenium was placed in showed up in his head. The sounds of his slow breathing echoed through his ears. The thought of it all made the detective visibly recoil in his seat.
"But…what the Hero Killer did to him…it wasn't pretty…I just hope his family is okay.." Tsukauchi stated, lowering his forehead onto his steering wheel. He remembered seeing the horrified looks on their faces whenever one of them would leave the room. His brother was the most devastated by the news.
"Sorry I couldn't be there with you, man…" The voice apologized, snapping the detective out of his train of thought.
"It's fine." He said, brushing it off, "I'm gonna head back to headquarters soon with my report. Will everyone be there?" The detective asked.
"Uh, I can ask. Why?" The voice questioned, sensing something was up.
"The Hero Killer wasn't alone…It was there. The mystery Nomu." Tsukauchi explained, hearing the phone go silent for a few seconds. He could tell the voice's eyes were widened with shock.
"...I'll get everyone. See ya." The voice informed him, disconnecting the phone.
"Mhmm." Tsukauchi hung up and let his shoulders ease up. He took a deep breath and sighed, starting the engine in his car. He listened to the low rumble and closed his eyes with a frown. Ingenium's retelling of events played out through his mind like a recorder. He didn't have to listen to the audio log to remember each sentence.
"Detective. I-I didn't tell you what happened after the Hero Killer left… I-I didn't tell anyone what happened." Ingenium said with a tired voice.
"I saw it. It was there. The monster that attacked the prison bus…" Ingenium said, stuttering a bit in exhaustion. Tsukauchi remembered those words and what he said after and shook his head, brushing them aside. What Ingenium saw wasn't good. It created a connection between the Hero Killer and the so-called League of Villains. The Hero Killer followed by the mystery Nomu minutes after? That can't be a coincidence. The thought alone made him more concerned. The Hero Killer and the League working together? It wasn't a thought you could sleep peacefully with.
He tried to shake his head of those thoughts but his brain couldn't resist drifting back to the night this investigation started.
Two Weeks Earlier - Night of the USJ Attack.
Police swarmed around the closed off narrow street holding flashlights and other equipment. More and more police cars occupied the left lanes, keeping a lane open for the fire trucks to drive by. Over on the right lane were dozens of officers staring down at the 500 foot drop off in silent horror with their flashlights. A few other lights kept focused on the road itself, allowing the police to make marks on the road where the crash took place.
One officer looked down on the street and pointed his flashlight at the tire marks on the road. The prison bus burned the street with how sharp of a turn it made, showing just how quick the incident was. He trembled at the thought of what could possibly cause a bus to swerve so fast. Following the tire trail, his flashlight reached the railing where the bus had smashed right through, driving off the cliff and into the forest below. Once reaching the cliff edge, the officer's flashlight lit up the figure standing in front of the destroyed railing. The detective noticed the light and turned his head back, squinting his eyes a bit to adjust to the bright light.
"Detective." The officer nodded, making eye contact with the detective.
"Officer." Tsukauchi nodded back at the young looking officer, looking at the firetrucks behind the officer.
Honk Honk
The sound of the firetrucks startled the officer, causing him to jump and let go of the flashlight, dropping it on the floor.
"Get those firetrucks down there now!" Another officer ordered, helping direct traffic. The jumpy officer stumbled a bit and reached down to pick up the flashlight. Watching as the Detective approached him.
"Sorry, Detective, Sir." He apologized.
"It's alright. Go over there and help." Tsukauchi ordered, pointing at a group of officers setting up lights.
"Yes, Sir." The officer nodded, running off. Tsukauchi watched the young officer leave and sighed. This was going to be another long night.
"Detective!" A voice called out from the fire trucks. Tsukauchi heard the voice and turned his head towards the source. The firetruck stopped for a second as the person jumped off the side. He landed on the road and banged his wrist pipes on the side of the truck, instructing it to continue moving. Tsukauchi watched as the man approached and greeted him.
"Backdraft." Tsukauchi nodded. Backdraft nodded back and tipped his fire hat in respect.
"It's good that you're here." The detective said, putting his hands in his jacket pockets.
"I came as soon as I heard fire. How bad is it?" Backdraft asked, analyzing the detective's face.
"Bad." Tsukauchi quickly answered, turning around. He walked off towards the broken railing and peered over the edge, Backdraft followed close behind and got a view.
"Holy-" Backdraft gasped, looking down at the massive fire burning trees left and right. Up on the street, all you could see was a little smoke but it was only a small portion of the devastation. Looking down the cliff was nothing but red flames atop tree after tree.
"When the truck crashed it created a large explosion that sent flames flying everywhere." Tsukauchi explained, watching the trees burn.
"How much fuel was in the tank?" Backdraft asked, watching as firefighters sprayed water on the burning fire.
"Completely full." The detective answered, causing Backdraft to gulp.
"Geez, this is bad. If we don't put it out soon this could burn the whole forest down." The hero replied with worry.
"What was the cause of this? There wasn't much detail in the alert." Backdraft questioned, looking down at the tire tracks on the road.
"You heard about the UA attack earlier today?" Tsukauchi asked, receiving a nod from the hero.
"Who hasn't?" He replied, rhetorically.
"Prison Bus #4 was on its way to Tartarus with two villains from the attack as cargo. The other buses reached their destination, but this one didn't." Tsukauchi clarified, staring down at the smoke. Backdraft took in the information and felt surprised.
"Villains attacked a prison bus? How did that happen?" He asked, never considering the possibility. Prison buses were always guarded by a fleet of police in front and back. No way villains could just show up and leave unscathed.
"I'm still trying to solve that myself." Tsukauchi replied, nodding his head.
"It was a monster!" An officer blurted out, getting Tsukauchi and Backdraft's attention. The two raised their heads up and turned to the left, staring down at an officer lying on the floor with his back leaning on the trunk of his police car.
"What?" Tsukauchi questioned, staring incredulously at the man.
"It was like an animal. Like a giant cat!" The officer said, spreading his arms out to put emphasis on the size.
"The officers saw it, too. Everyone did!
One second we were driving normally then suddenly it appeared out of thin air on top of the bus!" The officer exclaimed, shocking both hero and detective.
"Out of thin air?" Backdraft repeated, glancing at Tsukauchi.
"Can you describe what you saw?" Tsukauchi asked, getting a quick nod from the officer.
"Its skin was black and purplish. It's body was long and catlike, but its tail…it was bony, like a skeleton. But it controlled it like a scorpion tail. The tip was even shaped like a spear. I watched it attack the bus with its tail. Someone in the passenger seat must've hurt it because I heard it roar in pain. Then seconds later, it attacked the bus again and then it swerved off the road and into the drop off." The officer said, getting more frantic as he recounted his memory.
"Did you see its face?" Tsukauchi asked, feeling an uneasy feeling from the description.
"It's face? No, I was in the back. But another officer told me what it looked like." The officer mentioned.
"What did he say?" Tsukauchi asked, wanting to know.
"He said it was ugly. Had a cat's face but it was all grotesque. Its eyes glowed purple and its mouth was shaped into a creepy smile. The worst part was above the eyes. He swore to me he thought he could see its brain between its pointy ears." The officer said, getting more shaken up.
"Creepy smile, exposed brain…" Tsukauchi muttered, thinking back to the USJ. It couldn't be the same one. It was still captured. Does that mean there's more than one? The realization hit Tsukauchi very quickly, causing him to clench his fist and feel his heart stop.
"I was hoping it wasn't true." Tsukauchi muttered, loud enough for Backdraft to hear.
"Detective, are you okay?" Backdraft asked out of concern.
"Not anymore." He stated, nodding his head at the officer in thanks.
"Thanks for telling us. Get some rest, Officer." Tsukauchi ordered.
"Yes, Sir." The officer replied, saluting the detective. Tsukauchi made one last nod before turning and heading off towards a different direction. Backdraft looked at the detective incredulously, having heard the whole thing, and followed after him.
"Is he telling the truth?" Backdraft asked, getting a confused look from Tsukauchi.
"The way you looked at him when he told his story. Like you were familiar with what he was describing. Are you?" Backdraft asked.
"I wish I wasn't." Tsukauchi admitted, cryptically.
"So, you know what he's talking about?" The water hero questioned, forcing Tsukauchi to groan.
"I do. Can you keep a secret?" He asked.
"Of course." Backdraft nodded. Tsukauchi grimaced a bit and had doubts. Nonetheless, he hesitantly continued.
"Alright, one of the villains captured earlier today had a description very similar to this one. Its body was black, it had a creepy smile, and its brain was exposed. The leader called the thing Nomu and it seemed to listen to his commands. All Might took it down and we arrested him afterwards. The strange part was how compliant it was to getting arrested. No resistance at all and not even a peep. Almost like it was waiting for someone to give it orders." Tsukauchi explained. Backdraft looked at him in shock. He was silent for a few seconds as he took in all the information. He made a short nod in understanding and spoke up.
"So, this creature. Do you think it's related to the Nomu?" He inferred.
"After what I've heard about the USJ Nomu and this one, I'm starting to believe so." Tsukauchi answered, honestly.
"So, if they are related. That means someone had to be controlling this one as well?" Backdraft theorized.
"Mhm. And whoever it was didn't want the prisoners in bus #4 to be in our hands." The detective said.
"Who were the villains in bus #4?" Backdraft asked, wanting more specifics.
"They were high level threats. One of them was a teleporter. We think that's how the leader and the villains got into UA. I'm not sure about the other one, though, but I'm sure he was also dangerous if they had them sharing a bus." Tsukauchi answered.
"Either way, they're likely free now. And far away from here." Tsukauchi said, looking back down the cliff.
"Detective!" Another officer shouted, getting Tsukauchi's attention. Tsukauchi and Backdraft both turned around and went wide eyed when they saw the approaching officer. He was holding something in his hands, a fragment of some kind. The officer from before could see the fragment in the other officer's hands and panicked.
"There it is! That's it's tail!" The officer shouted, pointing at the fragment in the other officer's hands.
"Look at the size of it…" Backdraft said in awe at the length of the broken tailblade. Tsukauchi examined the tailblade and placed his hand on it. It was rough, cold, and very sharp. It was everything that the officer said it was, making the detective gulp. He composed himself and nodded at the officer.
"Load it in my car, gentlemen. I want to send this thing to forensics myself." Tsukauchi ordered.
"Yes, Sir!" The officers said, heading towards the detective's car.
"What are you going to do now?" Backdraft asked, looking at the detective.
"I'm gonna head to the station and get this thing secured. I trust you won't say a word about what I said to anyone? He asked, not wanting to risk a leak.
"Absolutely." Backdraft nodded, being completely honest.
"Good. In the meantime, help the officers search the area. And make sure this fire doesn't get too out of hand. Oh, and…if you see any bodies…" Tsukauchi said, lowering his voice. The implication was clear to Backdraft. He nodded back and saluted the detective, interrupting him.
"I know..." He said, assuring him he would follow his orders.
"Thanks." Tsukauchi said, heading towards his car. After the fragment was loaded into his vehicle, he immediately drove out of there with deep thoughts. A second Nomu. He couldn't believe what happened. Two different people with several quirks in one day? It seemed impossible. It just couldn't be true. Yet, it was. One was in custody and one was somewhere in Japan. What is this League all about? They have the resources to create two individuals with multiple quirks? Does that mean there could be more than two? If so, how many? The information troubled him, making him think back to the past. There was only one person that he knew of that could give someone multiple quirks.
"No. It's not possible." He said, out loud.
"It's gotta be something else. It can't be him." Tsukauchi thought, going into denial. He shook his head and brushed those thoughts aside. He couldn't think like that. Not now. Not until he had more information.
Present Day
"In the days after the Sports Festival ended, we recovered from our injuries, and then, our normal classes started right back up again. Well…some things were different." Izuku narrated.
An uncomfortable silence filled the air inside the cramped train. Izuku and Ami were caught standing in the middle of the crowded train cabin, looking down at their phones in relative peace and quiet. Two whole days of no school went by quickly for the young twin heroes-in-training. Now they were ready to go back to UA High. However, walking there wasn't an option. Rain clouds had rolled in during the days off, causing the morning sky to look dark and drop rain everywhere. Seeking to avoid the rain, the twins opted to use the train to get to school.
Unfortunately for them, the train cabins were flooded with citizens heading to work and also avoiding the rain as best they can. The two students stuck out very easily in their school uniforms among the crowd of everyday citizens. Still, no one in the cabin seemed to acknowledge them except for one passenger. A man in a business suit watched Izuku with squinted eyes of recognition. He looked at his green hair and plain look and felt a strange sense of dejavu, making him rub his chin in thought. He could swear he's seen that hair before. In the middle of his examination, he saw another set of green hair to his left, grabbing his attention.
"Twins?" The passenger thought, raising his eyebrow at the twins. He looked at them for a few seconds before his eyes drifted to a small tv screen on the ceiling. It was the Sports Festival from two days ago. There was no audio on the screen but he could very clearly see the action. Ever since the Sports Festival ended, the train had been replaying the highlight reel for two days straight. He stared at the screen and saw the green haired teen fighting against the son of the Number Two Hero, causing the man to silently gasp in excited recognition. He looked back at the twins and excitedly scooted closer.
"Hey, you two. Excuse me. You're the Midoriya twins from Class 1-A!" The man said, causing multiple heads to turn in curiosity. Ami and Izuku heard the excited voice and raised their heads up from their phones. They turned their heads back at the same time and saw a man dressed in a business suit happily smiling at them with glee. They were caught off guard by hearing him refer to them by the Midoriya Twins and scrunched their faces in confusion.
"Wha-?" The twins confusingly blurted out in unison. The man in the business suit smiled at the twins and raised his hand, giving them a thumbs up in admiration.
"Great job in the Sports Festival. I rooted for you two!" He said, winking at them in a congratulatory fashion. The nearby passengers made eye contact with the twins and noticed their green hair, overhearing their conversation and quickly putting two and two together. They all immediately stopped what they were doing and turned towards the twins' direction, smiling excitedly and murmuring amongst themselves at being near them. Izuku darted his eyes around the train cabin, listening to the citizens excited murmurs. He frowned a bit with a nervous expression as he tried to get used to the sudden excitement. He wasn't expecting this to happen to him or his sister. They were only on the train to avoid the rain, but now that idea seemed to have backfired for them.
"Wow, it really is them!" A passenger said, looking at the twins.
"Cool!" Another passenger exclaimed with awe.
Izuku listened to their excitement with a shy smile, feeling a little bit of happiness mixed in with his anxiety. After all, the passengers were only doing this because they were happy to see them. He sighed and accepted the situation, knowing he'd have to get used to people crowding around him like this in the future.
"Wait, Ami!" Izuku thought, gritting his teeth with newfound anxiety. He felt his stomach twist with worry as he remembered Ami's problems with people crowding around her. He turned around and faced his sister, making sure she was feeling okay. He looked at her and noticed the discomfort on her face but also the happiness in it. She seemed to be handling the tight spaces easier than before, which made Izuku's worry die down a bit. Ami noticed Izuku turning around and made eye contact with him, flashing him a quick smile of assurance. He smiled back and nodded in understanding, letting himself relax.
"Hey, make some room for these two!" The happy business man said, grabbing the twins' attention. The business man calmly spread his arms out and gently pulled people from his side of the train away from the twins, causing them to look at him with awe. Surprisingly, the crowd listened to him and gently moved back a bit, giving the twins the slightest bit of breathing room for their comfort. The twins looked around the train cabin with wide eyes. They were flabbergasted by the generosity of the passengers who were more than happy to give them space.
"Huh?" Ami and Izuku muttered at the same time, glancing at each other in bewilderment.
"They listened?" Ami thought, feeling shocked. Ami and Izuku stood back-to-back in the center of the cabin as they looked at all the smiles on the passengers' faces, feeling themselves get more relaxed. A lady in the crowd smiled at them with eyes closed, clasping her hands together in apology.
"We're we making you uncomfortable?" the woman asked, noticing their discomfort. Izuku and Ami stared at her and then back at each other for two seconds before answering.
"Ehh-a little-but, it wasn't really a problem..." The twins said, scratching their heads a bit in confusion. The woman in the crowd smiled at their apology and nodded.
"We're sorry for making you feel uncomfortable like that." The nice lady apologized, smiling sweetly at the twins which made them feel bad.
"Oh, ma'am, it's no worries, you don't have to apologize. It's normal for a train to be crowded. It wasn't a bother." Izuku said, frantically apologizing by waving his hands around. The crowd smiled at his apology and chuckled a little.
"You're too kind. You two are adorable and so much alike, too." The woman said, sizing up the twins.
"Thanks, ma'am." Ami said, awkwardly smiling back at her.
"You two were so amazing at the Sports Festival, giving you space was the least we could do." The happy business man explained, getting nods of agreement from the crowd.
"Yeah."
"Uh huh."
You're not still hurt from the Festival, are you?" another woman on the train questioned, confusing the twins even more.
"uhm… no…we're fine. Thanks." Ami nodded, smiling less awkwardly. The woman smiled back with relief from hearing her reply.
"That's a relief. You got hurt so much in your matches it made our hearts break." She explained, nodding along with the rest of the crowd.
"You were still incredible, though!" A member of the crowd shouted.
"Yeah! My kids watched the Sports Festival on TV and loved you two!" Another man in a business suit said with a smile.
"Mine, too!"
"Me, three!"
"You're so wonderful. I can tell you two are gonna be great pros one day!" Another excited woman in the crowd said, gushing at them.
"Keep trying for it, heroes!" the crowd chanted, cheering for them with happiness and joy.
"We will." Izuku said, smiling awkwardly at them with an embarrassed blush on his face.
"Thanks!" Ami said, completing his sentence.
UA High - Front Entrance
"That was a little weird, but those people on the train were really nice." Ami said, walking on the sidewalk beside Izuku. Unfortunately, the rain didn't let up, forcing the twins to walk to school with an umbrella raised.
"Yeah, they were…I'm still caught up in the fact they even recognized us." Izuku admitted, with an amused but honored grin. Ami also felt honored by the recognition and smiled.
"Yeah, I know. Guess we stand out when we're the only ones in school uniform." Ami replied with a nod, glancing down and tugging at her uniform with a happy smile.
"I wonder if that's how it'll be when we're heroes?" Izuku pondered, getting a small giggle out of Ami.
"Well, yeah, of course it will." She said, assuredly.
"Yeah, you're right. But also, Ami." Izuku said, cutting himself off to get her attention.
"What?" Ami asked, looking at Izuku with curiosity.
"You handled being there better than I thought you would." He admitted, making her confused.
"Hm? What do you mean?" She asked, tilting her head slightly.
"Oh, well, it's just that… I remember how you were whenever I'd enter big crowds to watch heroes fight with villains. You'd always stay in the back or keep your distance from the crowd. But, now? You were a little uncomfortable at first, but you seemed like you were getting used to it." Izuku smiled, showing off a proud expression.
"Oh, yeah. To be honest, using my quirk to fight in the Sports Festival really changed my perspective on things." Ami admitted, rubbing her chin with her hand.
"Really?" Izuku asked.
"Mhm. That, and I was on top of Shoji with Tsu and the biggest pervert in class breathing down my neck for 15 minutes. I figure if I can do that for a few minutes, then being in crowds should be no sweat." Ami laughed, getting a concerned look from Izuku. He really hoped Mineta didn't do anything. He brushed the thought away and returned to smiling.
"That's a relief." He replied, smiling at her improvement.
"Yup. Besides, what could they do? There was a hero right beside me." Ami smirked, raising her eyebrows up and down and touching his arm with her elbow. Izuku's smile brightened up upon hearing her insinuation, feeling better about himself. Izuku kept his head low and continued walking to school with Ami, yawning a little.
"Are you okay?" Ami asked, noticing his yawn. Izuku looked back up at her and nodded, brushing away her worries.
"Yeah. Though, I feel like I'm barely awake." Izuku nodded. Ami flared her nostrils and smiled, rolling her eyes in amusement.
"You, too, huh?" She admitted, getting a knowing glance from Izuku, "Two days off and it still feels like the Festival was only a few hours ago." she sighed, shaking her head slightly.
"You said it." Izuku agreed, sighing in exhaustion.
"Good morning, Midoriya's!" Iida shouted, slightly startling the twins. Izuku and Ami turned around and watched as Iida ran towards them with a heavy green jacket and boots. The twins' eyes raised as they noticed Iida's choice of clothes for the weather.
"Whoa, Iida? You really went all out with the rain gear." Izuku said, watching him run by.
"Why on Earth are you two walking so slowly? You're gonna be late." Iida warned, rushing past them with a smile.
"Late?" The twins questioned.
"But there's still five minutes until the first bell." Izuku exclaimed, watching Iida run.
"UA students should always arrive ten minutes early, don't you think?" Iida said, getting a worried look from the twins. Izuku frowned a little and stepped up his speed, running slightly in order to catch up but not too fast to accidentally slip. Ami was caught off guard by Izuku's increase in speed and quickly ran after him before the rain could touch her.
"Hey, Izzy, hold on! we're sharing an umbrella, remember?" Ami exclaimed, gripping on to Izuku's arm as they ran towards the front entrance.
UA High - Class 1A
When Ami and Izuku entered class, they were quick to learn everyone else had already arrived. The students heard the twins' entrance and immediately turned towards their direction. They formed happy smiles and greeted the twins, getting the twins to smile and wave back. Ami glanced at the class and counted them all in her head, stopping upon reaching Bakugo. He sat at his desk with a blank glare that wasn't focused on anything. She stared at him from the entrance and gently squeezed her backpack straps with a smile. Her and Izuku resumed walking and approached their seats. The action didn't go unnoticed by Bakugo who glanced at the twins in silence.
"Morning, Kacchan." Izuku greeted, walking past Bakugo to get to his seat. Bakugo heard the greeting and remained quiet, glaring down at his desk.
"Deku." He said, acknowledging his presence in a strangely calm manner. The usual scorn in his voice wasn't there at the moment, slightly confusing Izuku as he took a seat.
Soon after Deku walked by, Habanero appeared in his vision, catching his attention. He narrowed his eyes at her and felt more focused while she took a seat. He watched her relax into the seat and remained silent. She was looking better than last time. By now the lasting impact he had placed on her during their match was healed. Even the bruise on her chest was gone. Once he was done looking, he glanced up at her and instantly made eye contact. He quickly realized Habanero was also looking at him while he was looking at her, making him feel a bit awkward.
"Crap." Bakugo thought, making no visible sign of embarrassment. Ami stared at him and paused for a second when she noticed he was already looking at her upon sitting down. Was something the matter? Two days had passed since their fight yet it still felt fresh in her mind. She was sure it was still fresh in his mind, too. She wondered if maybe she caught him red handed checking to see how recovered she was from the fight. An action he'd most likely deny. Either way, the eye contact between them brought a smile to her face as she raised her head up a little and greeted him.
"Hey, Champion." She said, greeting Kacchan with a warm smile. The blank glare he had quickly changed to a more narrowed one as he heard her greeting. Champion? Really? He tensed up a bit and recovered from the greeting, flaring his nostrils a bit. It didn't help how wide her smile had gotten from catching him looking at her. He stayed calm and showed no sign of being bothered, replying to her greeting with a more standard response.
"Habanero." He acknowledged, showing zero signs of aggression. Ami saw the narrowed look in his eyes and kept up her smile, feeling her heartbeat faster than usual at his reply. She clasped her hands together and placed them on top of her desk.
"Those two days sure went by fast, didn't they?" Ami asked, getting him to loosen up his glare. He pondered the question in his mind and agreed, slightly nodding his head up and down.
"Mhm." He replied, looking at the front of the classroom.
"Yeah, but…it's good to be back in class." Ami agreed, leaning her head down on her desk.
"How about you? I bet you missed hearing my voice." She sarcastically smirked. Bakugo heard the question and scoffed.
"Mhm." He absentmindedly replied, feeling his eyes shrink in an instant. His concentration snapped in half.
"Wait. What?" He thought, feeling his heart stop working. He glanced at Habanero and could see the cogs in her brain stop functioning.
"Huh-" Ami muttered, feeling goosebumps at the unexpected response. Did he just agree with me? She felt her brain cease to function until Bakugo's scoff turned it back on again.
"Yeah, I sure missed hearing you complain all day." Bakugo quickly replied, correcting the mistake before it could get even more awkward. He mentally slapped himself for slipping up like that, wishing he paid more attention. Ami recovered from the response and felt her brain return to normal at the realization he was being sarcastic. She looked away for a second and frowned for some reason, feeling her heart slow down. She gulped and shook her head, returning her eyes back to him and rolling them.
"Pfft. Har har." Ami smirked, rolling her eyes at his reply. She couldn't believe how much that caught her off guard. After a couple seconds of letting her heart rate slow down, she contemplated how different he was acting today. Before, he used to look more annoyed whenever she talked to him, but now, he seemed to be more open to discussion. He was acting surprisingly more relaxed around her, too. Even his glare was different. The feeling made her feel more welcomed, causing her smile to return. She silently wondered if this was his way of showing he was trying to be friends after their match. Thinking about the Sports Festival reminded her of Bakugo's victory against Todoroki and the results. His way of winning was far from what actually happened. The mood he was in after receiving the gold medal confirmed as much. Glancing down at his neck, she wondered if he actually did what he said he'd do with it two days ago.
"What'd you do with the medal?" She asked, raising her eyebrow in curiosity. Bakugo heard the question and raised his eyebrow back at her, reminding himself of what he did with it.
"...It's…at my house." Bakugo admitted, crossing his arms in defeat. Ami's grin grew wider at his answer. She knew he'd accept it eventually and wouldn't throw it away.
"Hmph. I knew you'd keep it." Ami said, nodding her head lightly with a smug look of satisfaction. Bakugo flared his nostrils and rolled his eyes, shaking his head slowly, "As if my parents would let me throw it away in the first place." He grumbled to himself. After a couple seconds passed, Ami listened to her classmates' conversations with interest.
"It's so weird that people recognized us from TV. Everyone wanted to talk to me on my way here." Mina smiled, feeling happy that so many people recognized her. Even though she lost in her first match, a lot of people congratulated her on reaching the final round.
"Hmph. I had the same thing happen to me." Tokoyami interjected, leaning in his seat.
"Yeah, me, too!" Kirishima exclaimed, pointing at himself with joy.
"Some kids approached me wanting to ride on my back while running." Shoji added, receiving a couple awws in response.
"People on the street we're staring at me! It was kind of embarrassing." Hagakure said, smiling invisibly. Ojiro noticed the question and smiled.
"Sure, but isn't that pretty normal for you?" Ojiro asked, staring at the invisible girl.
"You won't believe what a bunch of elementary school brats yelled at me." Sero said, looking grumpier than usual.
"Nice try?" Tsu said, leaning her head on her desk.
"Uggggh." Sero groaned, falling back into his seat with disappointment.
"All it took was one Sports Festival and suddenly we're like celebrities." Kaminari exclaimed, getting a few nods in agreement.
"This school really is amazing." Mineta smiled, but that smile quickly dropped at the thought of the Sports Festival footage, "...but." he muttered, clenching his fist.
"Mineta, you seem awfully depressed all of a sudden? Ribbit." Tsu noticed, watching the joy leave Mineta's body.
"Why wouldn't I be after what the broadcast edited out." Mineta mentioned, catching several students' attention.
"..." the class went quiet and glanced at each other in wonder at what Mineta was talking about.
"What did the broadcast edit out?" Sero asked, speaking up for the class. Mineta heard the question and frowned, feeling his body shake with grief.
"The broadcast edited out the girls in cheerleader outfits!" Mineta whined, slamming his fist on his desk in tears. A huge weight exited the girl's shoulders at Mineta's breakdown. The girls made visible smiles at the news.
"Well that's good to hear." Jirou smiled, feeling the weight leave her shoulders.
"No it's not!" Mineta cried, pounding his fist into his desk and laying on it face down.
"Why'd they cut it out?" Kaminari asked.
"Who knows. Maybe they saw how much the girls hated it and took pity." Ojiro guessed.
"Wasn't it live?" Sato asked, scratching his face.
"Live events on television are always filmed with a few second delay so they know to cut to commercial before an accident occurs." Tokoyami explained, getting a quick nod.
"Makes sense, but I wonder who told them to cut it out?" Kirishima wondered.
"Yeah. I wonder…" Yaoyorozu said, blankly smiling in relief. Sitting next to her was Todoroki, who heard the relieved tone in her voice. He looked at her and caught the glimpse of joy on her face.
"I was robbed! Now I have nothing left but the memoryyy…" Mineta whined in a muffled voice.
Ami looked at Mineta and shook her head slowly in disapproval. She wasn't surprised that he was sad. The outfits were his idea after all. But, like the other girls in her class, she was happy that the footage was cut. She didn't want to think about what her mom would say. She shrugged and turned her attention back to Bakugo. Who still had the same grumpy expression on his face. Ami internally sighed at his face and tried to move the conversation along.
"You hear what they said?" Ami asked.
"We're in the same room." Bakugo replied, being smart with her. She ignored his smart reply and told him about what happened on their way to school.
"Me and Izzy were recognized by a bunch of people on the train earlier. They were really nice, too. Complimented us and everything." Ami explained. Bakugo could only roll his eyes in his mind.
"Good for you." He said, making Ami's smug smile widen.
"How about you? I bet a lot of people recognized you since you were the Champion." Ami innocently asked out of curiosity. Bakugo scoffed at the question. Of course people recognized him. He had noticed a couple stares from people on the way to school. Some were scared. Some even looked at him with respect. It didn't really matter how they looked at him, though. None of them ever approached him anyway. Except for one kid. His eyes narrowed as he remembered that interaction in his mind, making him flare his nostrils. He turned his head and stared at the innocent smile on Habanero's face and grunted a little and crossed his arms. He quickly answered the question.
"Yeah, I got recognized. Some twerp on the bus looked at me funny." Bakugo answered, getting a nod from Ami before it turned into concern.
"Oh? You didn't yell at him, did you?" Ami questioned, fearing the worst. He raised his eye at her and scoffed, shaking his head.
"What did you think I did?" He questioned, glaring back at her.
"Yell at him?" Ami answered, receiving a grin from him.
"Pfft. Yeah, and get kicked off the bus? I wasn't walking to this school in the rain, that's for damn sure. I ignored that little extra like he didn't exist." Bakugo replied, filling Ami with relief. It was a lot better than blowing him up.
"Well, patience is a virtue." She replied.
"Mhm." He agreed, keeping the amused grin on his face. Ami noticed the grin on his lips and kept one of her own. She felt better seeing his grumpy mood change to a positive one and moved on. She dropped her shoulders and leaned into her seat in relaxation. And almost right on cue, the classroom door slid open, alerting the students.
"Morning." Aizawa said with zero enthusiasm, sliding open the classroom door.
"Good morning, Mr. Aizawa!" The entire classroom replied, instantly returning to their seats and speaking respectfully. The first thing the class noticed about Aizawa was the lack of bandages covering his face. Ami's eyes widened at being able to see the perpetually tired eyes of her teacher again.
"Ribbit? Mr. Aizawa, you don't have bandages anymore. That's good news." Tsu said, noticing she could see Aizawa's entire face. The class nodded in approval with her, feeling relieved that their teacher had fully recovered from the USJ incident.
"The old lady went a little overboard with her treatment." Aizawa said, rubbing his eyelid a little with a disturbed look.
"Been there…" Ami thought, nodding her head in sympathy. Not even pros could escape the tiring effects of Recovery Girl's quirk.
"Anyway. We have a big class today on Hero Informatics." Aizawa said, starting up the class. The students instantly froze up at the teacher's choice of words. A new bit of nervousness swelled up in their bodies.
"Oh, no."
"Informatics? Please don't tell me it's a pop quiz." Kaminari thought, fearing for his sanity.
"Crap. I bet it's about hero laws. I'm so bad at stuff like that." Kirishima thought, jumping to conclusions. All of the students had a similar reaction to the announcement, wondering what it could be. Aizawa stared at them with a stoic expression and went further into detail.
"You need codenames. Time to pick your hero identities." Aizawa said, silently relishing in the look of fear he put on the students before their expressions changed to excitement.
"This is gonna be totally awesome!" The room shouted in unison.
"This is related to the pro hero draft picks that I mentioned the last time we were in class together. Normally, students don't have to worry about the draft yet. Not until their second or third year actually, but your class is different. In fact, by extending offers to first-years like you, pros are essentially investing in your potential. Any offers can be rescinded if their interest in you dies down before graduation, though." Aizawa explained, getting mixed reactions from the students.
"Stupid, selfish adults." Mineta groaned, snapping his fingers and quietly smacking his desk.
"So what you're saying is we'll still have to prove ourselves after we've gotten recruited." Hagakure questioned, getting a nod from Aizawa.
"Correct. Now…" Aizawa said, "Here are the totals for those of you who got offers." He said, pressing a button on the remote in his hand. Instantly, a list appeared on the board displaying student names with numbers to the right of them. All for the purpose of seeing how many offers were given to the class. Ami looked at the board and went wide eyed, holding her breath in surprise.
Class A No. of Offers
Todoroki: 4123
Bakugo: 3557
Midoriya A: 1789
Iida: 377
Tokoyami: 372
Shoji: 354
Asui: 298
Yaoyorozu: 272
Kirishima: 50
Uraraka: 35
Sero: 27
Kaminari: 19
"In past years, it's been more spread out. But there's a pretty big gap this time." Aizawa explained, sending the class into shock.
"Holy crap! 1789 offers? That's half the amount of Kacchan's offers! That many people want me? What the heck? I can't believe it! Wait, where's my brother?" Ami smiled before frowning at not seeing her brother's name near the top. She looked down the list of names on the board and slowly reached Izuku's, causing her heart to stop.
"Ack!" She screamed inside her mind.
"What the- Sero got more offers than me!?" Kaminari exclaimed, looking at his number of offers in astonishment.
"Thank you, pity offers. Thank you." Sero cried, staring up at the ceiling with hands clasped together in a prayer.
"Man. But all he did was get frozen in ice." Kaminari complained, feeling jealous.
Like you were any better. Maybe you would've gotten more if your match wasn't so dumb." Jirou mumbled, making Kaminari frown.
"Dangit." He moaned, feeling sad.
"What about the real star? Moi?" Aoyama asked, looking for his name. He saw his name near the bottom of the list and smiled at the number.
"Ooh. Treize offres, isn't so bad, wouldn't you agree?" Aoyama asked, turning around.
"Well, 15's better than nothing." Mina laughed.
"354? Nice one, Shoji. Ribbit." Tsu said, looking at Shoji to her left.
"298. Not bad yourself, Tsu." Shoji replied, nodding his head in thanks.
"Todoroki got the most ahead of Bakugo?" Jirou commented, surprised by the student with the top spot.
"Yeah, it's the opposite of how they placed in the festival." Kirishima said.
"They probably weren't excited about working with the guy who had to be chained up at the end." Sero pointed out, angering Bakugo.
"If I scared a pro, they're just weak!" Bakugo shouted, turning back at Sero with an angry glare. Ami bit her lip and struggled to contain her giggling. In the back of the class, Yaoyorozu stared at the number of offers she received compared to everyone else and felt grateful for still being noticed by a lot of heroes despite her disappointing match. She turned to her right and saw Todoroki sitting quietly with a cold glare in his eyes.
"That's amazing. You must be proud." She commended with a smile. Todoroki narrowed his eyes and looked away from the board with disappointment.
"These offers are probably because of my father." He said, undermining his accomplishment.
"People want us!" Ochaco cried, holding onto Iida's shoulders and shaking him back-and-forth.
"Mhm." He mumbled as Ochaco continued to shake him.
"Midoriya. Look at your number compared to your sister! You got none! I bet everyone was super grossed out by the crazy way you were fighting." Mineta said. Izuku stared at the number and cringed, frowning in his seat. The number on the board was zero. No one offered to take him. Not a single hero. He frowned but stayed positive, shaking off the sadness. After all, Ami got a ton of offers. If she was happy, then so was he.
"Pfft. No one sent offers to Deku? He really screwed up losing to IcyHot." Bakugo thought, glaring at the results.
"Despite these results you'll all be interning with pros. Got it? Even those of you who didn't get any offers." Aizawa said, looking at the entire class.
"Oh, so, we're all interning?" Izuku inquired, curiously.
"Yes." Aizawa nodded, "You already got to experience combat with real villains during the attack on the USJ facility. But it'll still be helpful to see pros at work. Up close and personal, in the field. Firsthand." He explained, sending the classroom into further rounds of excitement.
"And for that, we'll need hero names!" Sato exclaimed.
"Things are suddenly getting a lot more fun!" Ochaco beamed.
"These hero names will likely be temporary, but take them seriously or-" Aizawa warned.
"-You'll have hell to pay later!" A woman's voice said, catching Mineta's eyes at lightspeed. The rest of class turned their attention towards the door and smiled in awe at the teacher walking in.
"What you pick today could be your codename for life. You better be careful or you'll be stuck with something utterly indecent." Midnight said, finishing Aizawa's sentence.
"It's Midnight." The Classroom said in unison.
"Yeah. She's got a good point. Midnight is going to have final approval over your names. It's not my forte." Aizawa said, remembering how his hero name was decided.
In Shota Aizawa's Case
"Hm? So you haven't decided on a codename yet?" A teenage Present Mic asked, looking at a teenage Aizawa.
"It doesn't matter what I choose. I don't wanna be in the spotlight anyway." Aizawa said, keeping to himself. Present Mic looked at him and smirked, instantly forming an idea.
"Bro. I got it! How about Eraserhead?" Present Mic suggested.
"Sure, whatever." Aizawa agreed, unenthusiastically. He quickly scribbled down the name on his board and presented it to class while Present Mic watched with a smug grin of satisfaction.
Present
"The name you give yourself is important. It helps reinforce your image and shows what kind of hero you wanna be in the future. A codename tells people exactly what you represent. Take "All Might" for example." Aizawa explained, making Ami narrow her eyes in deep thought. She looked down at her desk and rubbed her chin with her hand.
"All Might…" Ami repeated, thinking about what his name represents.
"All Might's a super strong hero who always wins with a smile. His name represents his strength, so, maybe I should have a name that reflects my quirk? Hmm…What should my name be?" Ami said, looking down at the board and squeezing the marker in her hand.
"Whatever I write down will be my hero name for life. It has to be a good one. Something that represents me and what hero I'm going to be." Ami thought, nodding her head in agreement.
"Hmm…But what to pick?" Ami contemplated, leaning back into her seat. She thought about what to write while several minutes passed.
"Hehe." Bakugo lightly chuckled, catching only Ami's attention. She glanced over at his desk and watched him aggressively write words onto his board.
"Does he already have one in mind?" Ami thought, glancing back at her own empty board. She continued brainstorming until eventually, Midnight broke the silence permeating through the class.
"Now, students, who among you is ready to share?" She asked, getting horrified glances from the students.
"We're presenting these?" Kirishima questioned internally, feeling a rush of anxiety. Ami did the same and gulped, looking up at Midnight with wide eyes.
"I have to show my name to the class?" Ami thought, grinding her teeth nervously.
"Oh, great! Who's got the balls to go first?" Sero thought, darting his eyes around the room. In that silent few seconds of questioning, only one student chose to stand up with dignity. Aoyama got out of his seat with a smug, determined smile. He held onto his board and walked to the front of the class with a proud smile. standing on the podium, he looked at the class with a confident look.
"Hold your breath." He warned, expecting praise from his masterpiece of a name.
"The Shining Hero. My name is "I can not stop twinkling!" Aoyama proudly proclaimed, displaying the name on his board with pride.
"Mon amie. You can't deny my sparkle." Aoyama smiled, receiving groans from the class.
"Come on!" The class said in shock.
"Pfft." Ami snorted, trying to hold in her laugh.
"It'll be better this way. Take out the "I" and shorten the "cannot" to "can't." Midnight instructed, getting a nod from Aoyama.
"It's stunning, Mademoiselle." He complimented, accepting the change.
"She likes it?" The class questioned incredulously.
"Also, you're not really French, are you? That's just an act." Sato pointed out, which Aoyama ignored. After Aoyama sat down, Mina took her chance and stood up.
"Okie dokie, lemme go next!" She exclaimed, walking up to the podium.
"My code name: Alien Queen!" She announced, presenting her board to the class.
"Hold on. Like that horrible monster with the acidic blood?" Midnight questioned, understanding the reference.
"I don't think so?" She denied.
"Dang it." Mina said, walking back to her seat with a glum expression.
"That one wasn't okay?" The class questioned, watching Mina's walk of shame.
"Since the first two were so weird, I feel like I have to come up with something really clever now." Several students thought with worry.
"Ribbit!" Tsu said, raising her hand.
"I think I've got one. Okay if I go next?" She asked, politely.
"Come on up." Midnight encouraged. Tsu nodded and stood up, making her way to the front of the class. She stood on the podium and stared at her board.
"I've had this name in mind since grade school." Tsu said, turning around her board and showing it off to class.
"Rainy Season Hero: Froppy!" Tsu proclaimed, to the joy of the whole class.
"That's delightful! It makes you sound approachable. What a great example of a name everyone will love!" Midnight commended, clasping her hands together in awe. The class's nervousness quickly died down upon hearing her hero name. It was so simple and approachable, everyone enjoyed Froppy.
"Froppy! Froppy! Froppy! Froppy!" The class chanted with joy.
"Thanks, Froppy! Finally, a normal one!" The class cheered.
"I've got mine, too. The Sturdy Hero. My name is Red Riot!" Kirishima announced, staring back at the class with a brave face.
"Red Riot? Interesting." Midnight noted, raising her finger up.
"You're paying homage to the Chivalrous Hero, Crimson Riot, yes?" She pointed out, getting a quick nod from Kirishima.
"That's right." He laughed, putting a hand on the back of his head.
"He may be kind of old school, but someday, I wanna be just like he was. Crimson is my idol." Kirishima explained.
"Hm." Midnight smirked, liking his attitude.
"If you're bearing the name of someone you admire, you have that much more to live up to." She said.
"I accept the challenge." Kirishima smiled, clenching his fist. The class cheered for his name as well and showed their support. Ami clapped for him and thought about her own situation.
"Crimson Riot? I think I've heard of him before. Kirishima's a great guy, I'm sure he'll live up to his name. Speaking of hero names. A name that pays homage or a name that's entirely my own? Should I base myself off another hero or should I try something more original?" Ami thought.
"I based my costume on Backdraft and firefighters, somewhat, so maybe I should start from there." She nodded, smiling brighter.
"It should be something that reflects what I want to do. Something professional sounding." Ami thought, tapping her lips with her finger. Soon enough, a memory from the Cavalry Battle popped into her head.
"The Angel That Breathes Hell's Fire." Ibara said, echoing through Ami's head. Ami remembered the cool sounding nickname and flared her nostrils.
"That name is really cool but it's way too long for a Hero name." Ami sighed, shaking her head.
"Hmm… Maybe there's something there that I can work with, as well…" Ami pondered, tapping her finger on her chin. She felt her lips curve upward as an idea formed in her head. Looking back at the board, she pulled the cap off her marker and started brainstorming.
"Man. I still haven't been able to think of anything that's cool enough." Kaminari sighed, struggling to come up with a name.
"Hey. I've got one." Jiro said, cutting into his struggle.
"How does "Jamming-yay" sound to you?" She offered, getting a smile to form on his face.
"Ha! Oh, It's like "Hemingway," who wrote A Farewell to Arms, right? Real clever. I like it." Kaminari smiled, getting a chuckle out of Jiro.
"No. It's because even though you're powerful, you always…jam your brain." She laughed, no longer holding it in.
"Oh, come on. Jiro. Quit messing with me!" Kaminari complained, irked by her insult. Jiro quickly stood up and approached the front of the class soon after.
"The Hearing Hero. I'm Earphone Jack." She announced with a confident smirk.
"Now that's a good one!" Midnight complimented, accepting the name.
"The Tentacle Hero, Tentacole." Shoji said, showing off his hero name to the class.
"Oh, I like what you're doing with that. A nice portmanteau." Midnight complimented.
"The Taping Hero, Cellophane!" Sero announced, showing his board to the class.
"That's on the nose. Good work!" Midnight smiled.
"Martial Arts Hero: Tailman." Ojiro said, showing the board to the class.
"No surprise with that one, I guess." Midnight smiled.
"I'm the Sweets Hero, Sugarman!" Sato said, getting approval.
"Perfect!" Midnight said.
"Pinky!" Mina proudly proclaimed with her fist in the air.
"Make those looks work for you, girl!" Midnight encouraged, cheering her on with the rest of class.
"Stun Gun Hero: I am Chargebolt. Electric, doncha think?" Kaminari asked, showing off his hero name with pride.
"Makes me all tingly!" Midnight replied, accepting the name. It wasn't long before more students walked up to the front.
"The Stealth Hero "Invisible Girl!" Hagakure said, showing her board to the class.
"That really suits you!" Midnight exclaimed, liking the names simplicity.
"Now come on, who's gonna step up next?" Midnight asked, looking for more students to walk up. Far in the back, the tall girl stood up and began her approach. Yaoyorozu reached the podium and showed off her board with slight hesitancy.
"I hope that I can live up to this name. The Everything Hero: I'm Creati!" She said, feeling confident, but also a little nervous.
"Creative!" Midnight approved.
"Shoto." Todoroki announced in a low voice.
"Just your name? Is that it?" Midnight questioned, leaning closer and looking at his board.
"Uh huh." He replied. Midnight gave her approval and he walked off as quickly as he arrived, returning to his seat in silence. A few seconds passed and class continued with Tokoyami walking up to the podium.
"Jet-Black Hero: Tsukuyomi." Tokoyami solemnly proclaimed with seriousness.
"Ah, God of the night!" Midnight moaned, accepting the name in a flash.
"Fresh-Picked Hero: Grape Juice!" Mineta said, showing off his name to the class. He wished he could see their faces but the pedestal was taller than him.
"Very kitschy!" Midnight approved. Mineta blushed at her compliment and walked off with a feeling of accomplishment while Koda walked to the front of the class. When he reached the pedestal, he darted his eyes everywhere and made eye contact with all of his classmates. Except for Bakugo's scary glare. Taking a deep breath, he raised his board up and showed it off to the class.
"Petting Hero: Anima." He said through a series of unintelligible nervous groans. The class didn't understand a word but they could read his hero name clearly.
"Yep! All about it!" Midnight approved, being mindful of his nervousness. The class also approved and cheered him on, giving him a happy content smile as he returned to his seat.
"Out of all of us, I think his quirk would appeal the most to younger kids. I mean, who doesn't like cute animals?" Ami thought, watching Koda take a seat.
"That's most of the class now. I wonder who's gonna go next?" Ami thought, glancing towards Bakugo. She raised her eyes and leaned back a little when she noticed Bakugo stand up out of his seat.
"Huh? Kacchan? You're going next?" Ami questioned out loud. Bakugo heard her question and scoffed, ignoring it and walking up to the front. Ami watched him stand behind the pedestal with his normal glare and thought about his hero name.
"Hm. I wonder what hero name he came up with?" Ami wondered, smiling a bit out of hopefulness.
"King Explosion Murder." Bakugo announced, smiling like a madman in front of the whole class. His classmates looked at the name on his board with wide eyes.
"...Pfft. Hahahahaha." Ami cried, bursting out laughing. Bakugo heard Habanero's laugh and glared daggers at her, gritting his teeth in annoyance.
"Who said you could laugh?" Bakugo shouted, squeezing the sides of the pedestal with his hands.
"I'm gonna say that one's a little too violent." Midnight said, denying Bakugo's hero name.
"Huh, whaddaya mean!?" Bakugo shouted, glaring at Midnight.
"Hey, Kacchan. I've got one!" Ami said, raising her hand up.
"No one asked for your input!" Bakugo yelled, glaring back at her. Ami stuck her tongue out in defiance before talking out loud anyway.
"How does Ground Zero sound?" She suggested, getting a couple nods of approval from her classmates. Bakugo heard the suggestion replay over and over in his head as he stared at Habanero.
"Huh? That name…sucks!" Bakugo growled, hesitating at the last second. A bad move for him as Ami quickly took notice of his hesitation.
"Ha! You thought about it." Ami exclaimed, pointing at him with a smirk.
"Yeah. The name was so stupid I had to process it a little longer." Bakugo yelled.
"Crap, I hesitated and she noticed. That name wasn't bad, either." Bakugo thought, looking down at the pedestal with gritted teeth. He couldn't believe something Habanero said to him would make him hesitate so quickly. Looking back up at the mischievous smirk on her face, he scoffed and flared his nostrils.
"Like Hell I'm using a name you came up with, Habanero!"
"Hey, I know. Why not, Explosion Boy?" Kirishima suggested, raising his hand up and laughing.
"That's even worse, Shitty Hair!" Bakugo said, pointing at him.
"How bout I come down there and show you two why murder should be in my name?" Bakugo threatened, getting a laugh out of Habanero. Midnight facepalmed and shook her head, glancing down at the sleeping Aizawa wrapped in a yellow sleeping bag cocoon.
"How do you deal with a boy this rowdy, Aizawa?" Midnight thought, rolling her eyes. She quickly worked to diffuse the situation and convinced Bakugo to return to his seat. He complied with orders and returned to his seat with arms crossed and sporting a grumpy face, glaring down at the name on his board.
"Sorry about the name not panning out, Explosion Murder." Ami apologized, attempting to make him feel better. Bakugo rolled his eyes and mumbled to himself in annoyance.
"King Explosion Murder." He corrected her, keeping a straight face.
"Right, right." Ami nodded, playing along.
"Okay. My turn." Uraraka said, taking the stage and walking up to the pedestal.
"This is the name that I thought of: Uravity!" She announced to the delight of everyone.
"I just love that!" Midnight cheered, flashing a supportive smile.
"Phew!" Ochaco sighed in relief, listening to the class give rounds of applause.
"To be honest, choosing names is going faster than I thought it would. All we have left is young Bakugo, who needs to rethink his, and Iida…Oh, yes, and the Midoriya Twins, too." Midnight said, scoping out the last few students left. Iida heard the teacher's words and stared at the empty board in his hands. He frowned and gulped as he considered writing the name on the board. Mental images of his brother in the hospital flashed through his head, as well as his words. Hearing them repeat in his head almost made him consider writing down "his" hero name on the board. However, no matter how much he tried, he couldn't do it. Standing up and walking towards the front of the class, he stood firm and showed his board to the class.
"Tenya." Iida announced, lightly and rather quickly.
"You're using your real name, too?" Midnight questioned, unsure of the name. Iida was silent for a split second before nodding back in response. He was absolutely sure, for now. Iida walked back to his seat in silence while Ami and Izuku watched. The twins looked at him with the same sad frown on their faces. Both of them understood the tough time Iida was going through at the moment.
"How bout the twins? Is one of you ready to present?" Midnight asked, interrupting Ami and Izuku's thoughts. Ami looked at Midnight and adjusted herself in her seat.
"I am." Ami said, raising her hand up. Bakugo looked at her as she stood up and stared at the board in her hand. He narrowed his eyes and barely read what was written on it before she wandered off.
"I was actually thinking about it while everyone was presenting theirs. But, I think I'm happy with the name I chose." Ami smiled, standing in the front of the class.
"Let's hear it then." Midnight smiled, encouragingly. Ami nodded in response and clapped her hands together before showing her board in excitement.
"Alright then. My name, something that reflects the hero I want to be! Professional and approachable; I'm the Fire-Breathing Angel: Flame Guard!" Ami announced, creating amusement from everyone listening. Ami looked at the smiles that shone in her classmates' faces and smiled back, knowing they liked it.
"Thanks for the idea, Shiozaki." Ami thought, smiling proudly at her name choice.
"Cute and professional. Well done, girl!" Midnight smiled, complimenting her choice.
"Fire-Breathing Angel? Isn't that the nickname the girl in Class 1B gave you?" Jiro asked.
"Mhm. It's not bad, right?" Ami nodded, smiling proudly.
"I think it sounds cool." Sero said.
"Yeah, gets the point across, doesn't it?" Kirishima added.
"That's what I was thinking." Ami smiled, pointing at him in affirmation.
"I love it. Flame Guard. It's an amazing hero name, Ami. It suits you perfectly!" Izuku exclaimed, raising his voice. Ami heard Izuku's words and stared at him, nodding at him with an appreciative smile.
"Thanks, Izuku." Ami smiled, happily.
"Biased." Mina teased in a sing-song voice.
"How bout you, Midoriya? Have a hero name ready?" Midnight asked, looking at Izuku. Izuku's smile faltered just a bit as he looked down at his board. He stared at the name written down in hesitation before smiling at full power again. He raised his head up and nodded.
"Mhm." He smiled, feeling sure of himself. Ami left the front of the class and returned to her seat, nodding at Izuku with an encouraging smile.
"Izzy's going after me? I wonder what his hero name will be? Maybe it'll be All Might related? I know he came up with a lot of names with All Might in the title when we were kids." Ami wondered, thinking back to her childhood memories. She remembered hearing their mom list hero names to them as they bounced around in excitement.
"I can't wait." Ami thought, watching Izuku walk to the front of class with anticipation. Izuku
"Deku."
"...What?" Ami said, dropping her smile and leaning her head back in surprise. She glanced over at Bakugo and saw the utter confusion on his face as he stared at the name written on the board.
"Deku?" Bakugo thought, raising his eyes at the name. He tensed up a little bit before returning to normal and glaring at the name in silence.
"Really, Midoriya?" Mineta questioned.
"You sure about that?" Kaminari asked.
"Yeah, man, remember, that could be your name forever." Kirishima questioned with concern.
"Right. I used to hate it. But, then, something changed." Izuku stated, looking down.
"I guess… Someone taught me that it could have a different meaning. And that had a huge impact on how I felt. So, now I really like it." Izuku said, with a sincere smile. Bakugo narrowed his eyes at Deku upon hearing his opinion. He didn't know how to feel about his hero name. It annoyed him how accepting he is of being called Deku but, for some reason, it didn't piss him off as much as it should have. Then again, it fits him just like all the other nicknames of his classmates. He looked down at his board and remembered what Deku yelled at him during the combat exercise, making him flare his nostrils.
"You can call me, Deku, but I'm not helpless anymore! From now on, Deku is the name of a hero!" He shouted, pissing the blonde off. The memory faded as he shook his head a tiny bit. Whatever. If the nerd wants to be called Deku for the rest of his life he can go right ahead.
"Deku. That has to be my codename!" Izuku proclaimed, feeling absolutely sure of himself. Ami stared at the confident look on his face and smiled. Even though the name caught her off guard, she accepted what Izuku was doing.
"Hmph. I think it's a great name, Izzy!" Ami said, giving him her support. She heard a tiny scoff from her left and slowly turned her head, grinning at Bakugo.
"How about you, Kacchan?" Ami asked, mischievously.
"Shut up." Bakugo grumbled, looking at the wall on his left in annoyance.
Staff Room
The atmosphere in the room was a lot more relaxed for the day. Despite the amount of work the teachers had to do they didn't seem to mind. Cementoss was one of the teachers working on hero drafts. Every time he thought he was done he'd have another page of hero offers to sort through. Most surprising of all was the fact they were still coming in. Cementoss looked at the newer offers and read the names of the students the heroes were going after and raised an eyebrow. All Might walked around the staff room in his skinny form and hoped that a hero would offer to intern Izuku. He paced around the room, waiting for one to show up.
"Offers for the first years are still coming in. Looky here." Cementoss said, overlooking draft picks on the computer. All Might heard the comment and approached Cementoss, feeling his curiosity rise up. He took a glance at the screen and saw the offer.
"Who's that one for?" All Might asked, staring curiously at the screen.
"It's for Midoriya." Cementoss answered, causing All Might to flinch. His eyes went up a bit in surprise and quickly inched closer towards Cementoss.
"Which one?" All Might asked, wanting to know which twin the offer was for.
"Izuku Midoriya." Cementoss answered, causing All Might's eyes to widen. Alright. Satisfaction and surprise appeared on his face. He was happy to know that someone was willing to allow Izuku to intern with them.
"Really? Who's after him?" All Might said, leaning close behind Cementoss's shoulder. Cementoss moved subtly to the left to give All Might space as he read the draft form more clearly. Only after reading it longer than five seconds did it finally sink in on who wanted Izuku.
"What? Are you kidding me?" All Might questioned, feeling shock go through his body. That name was not what he expected to see. Cementoss heard the shock in his voice and looked at the hero draft. Hmm. He hadn't heard of that hero before.
Class 1-A
"Now that everyone's decided on their hero names, we can go back to talking about your upcoming internships. They'll last for one week." Aizawa stated with tired eyes. Midnight listened in with a smile and she stretched her arms in relaxation.
"As for who you'll be working with: Those of you who were on the board will choose from among your offers, everyone else will have a different list. You have a lot to think about. There are around 40 agencies across the country who've agreed to take on interns from your class. Each agency has a different specialty that its heroes focus on. Keep that in mind." He clarified.
"Imagine that you were Thirteen. You'd want to choose a place that focuses on rescuing people, not fighting villains. Understand?" Midnight chimed in, receiving a nod from Aizawa.
"Think carefully before you decide." Aizawa warned, right as the bell rang over the intercom.
"Yes, sir!" The class said in unison, relaxing into their seats. Aizawa wasted no time handing out draft forms to the front desks. The students quickly handed them out with excited fervor.
"I want to fight crime and bad guys in a big city." Kirishima said, looking at his paper.
"I just hope I can intern someplace where there's a lot of flooding. Or maybe a lake." Tsu said, being hopeful.
"Turn in your choices before the weekend." Aizawa said, heading towards the door with his sleeping bag on his shoulder. Midnight waved goodbye with an optimistic happy smile before turning around and following Aizawa. The class, meanwhile, heard the teacher's instructions and looked at him as he made his exit.
"We've only got two days?" Sero questioned, raising his eyebrow. Aizawa stopped by the doorframe and turned his head back slightly with a solemn expression.
"Yeah, so you should start now. You're dismissed." He said, exiting the room. He grabbed the knob and closed the door, leaving the classroom alone to deal with this info. Ami looked at the hero draft form in her hand and smiled brightly.
"Wow. 1789 heroes sent me offers! That's amazing!" She thought, staring at the front page. She flipped through the pages and quickly read them. With each page flipped slower and slower, her smile started to drop.
"Wait. Do I have to read them all?" She thought, realizing the amount of hero offers.
Lunchtime - Later
"So, guys, have you decided what pro agency you wanna go for?" Mina said, lying down with her chin on the desk. Choosing who to apply for was proving to be harder than the students previously thought. Although, for some, the choice was easy.
"Mt. Lady's my top choice!" Mineta blurted out, facing his classmates with a thumbs up.
"Mineta. Are you thinking something perverted?" Tsu questioned, seeing right through Mineta. He flinched at the question, feeling like he was figured out.
"Possibly." He said, shaking a little.
"Hey, Deku, who's on your list?" Ochaco asked, approaching the green haired teen. Naturally, Izuku was muttering loudly, in front of the whole class. They all looked at him and temporarily listened in, wondering what he was saying.
"There are only 40 heroes who'll take us, so after looking up their specialties and splitting them into groups, I can start narrowing…"
"There he goes again." Ojiro, Ochaco, Mineta, and Mina both said at the same time. Izuku's muttering had become the norm whenever the teacher wasn't around to stop it. Or when Ami was too busy to snap him out of it. Fortunately, Izuku was becoming good at figuring out when others were watching and talking to him. He snapped himself out of his muttering and heard his classmates' words, looking up at them in confusion.
"Huh? Oh. Sorry. What'd you guys say?" He asked in slight embarrassment.
"You're really thinking hard about this, aren't you?" Tsu said, scooting closer to Izuku.
"It'll all work out." Ochaco said with optimism, "I've settled on my pick." She mentioned, sparking everyone's curiosity.
"Already? What agency?" Izuku asked, looking up at Ochaco.
"The one that the Battle Hero, Gunhead, runs." Ochaco replied, striking a fighting stance and punching the air. Izuku and the others looked at Ochaco at the same time with surprised looks.
"Huh? Gunhead's a big brawler, though. Are you sure that's where you wanna intern, Uraraka?" Izuku questioned, wondering what her reason for the choice was.
"Yup! He sent me an offer." Ochaco nodded, continuing to punch the air.
"Whoa! Really?" Izuku replied, excitedly.
"But I thought you were trying to be a hero kinda like Thirteen, more into rescuing than fighting." Izuku questioned, getting a nod from Uraraka.
"Ultimately, that's the plan. But I've been thinking ever since the festival. Well, at least since I faced off against Bakugo." She said, punching the air faster.
"The stronger I am, the more possibilities I'll have. Plus, learning from a battle hero will give me a different perspective. Right?"
"Yeah. Totally." Izuku nodded, he looked at Ochaco with a smile as she continued to punch the air for fun. As he did, his vision focused on the back of Ami's head behind Ochaco. He saw a bit of the left side of her face and noticed the large grin on her lips. Ami was practically bouncing up and down in her seat as well, sparking his curiosity.
"Hey, Ami. What about you?" Izuku called out, getting Ami's attention. She ceased her jumping around and turned her head around, leaning back a bit.
"Huh? You say something, Izzy?" Ami asked, seeking confirmation.
"The internship. Do you have someone in mind already?" Izuku asked, getting a wide grin from Ami.
"Oh, I think you already know my choice." Ami nodded, tapping her foot on the floor with excitement.
"I'm gonna intern with one of my favorite heroes." Ami said, holding up her draft papers.
"Backdraft!" Ami announced, showing the name off to Izuku. Ochaco, Tsu, Mineta, and Ojiro, also took a peek at Ami's application and raised their eyebrows curiously.
"Backdraft?" Ojiro asked, tilting his head a little. Ochaco also said the same thing and glanced at Ojiro in confusion while Mineta stared at Ami with a look of recognition.
"The hero who dresses like a firefighter, correct?" Tokoyami inquired, getting a nod from Mineta. He was about to say the same thing.
"Yeah. Him." Mineta said, pointing at Tokoyami and nodding at his statement.
"Yeah!" Ami exclaimed, nodding her head with pride. She gave Tokoyami a thumbs up, who looked at her hand and nodded in thanks.
"We saw him stop a whole house from burning down once." Dark Shadow said, poking out of Tokoyami's stomach, getting a nod from the bird-faced teen.
"Hey, you saw that, too?" Kirishima exclaimed, sliding into the conversation.
"Hey, wait a minute. Isn't Backdraft the one that started that whole, "Both of them," chant?" Ojiro asked, getting a nod from Mineta and Tsu.
"Mhm. He was there at the Sports Festival watching. It was so cool. I met him a while back before school started after a fire-related incident. When it was all over he complimented my quirk and offered me a place in his agency if I became a hero." Ami stated, getting looks of awe from her classmates.
"That's great. He gave you an offer even though your quirks are the complete opposite of each other." Ojiro admired, "You must be honored." He stated, getting a firm nod from Ami.
"I know. It was such an amazing offer that I just have to take this internship with him. Plus he's always been a favorite of mine growing up so, of course, I'm going to take it." Ami said, holding onto her application tightly. Bakugo listened in on their conversation and rolled his eyes, flaring his nostrils in annoyance.
"Hmph." He scoffed, alerting Habanero with his grunt. Ami glanced at Bakugo and raised her eye at him questionably. She took a peak at the application on his desk and noticed his choices were already filled in.
"He's done already? But he had double the amount of my offers? Did he read through them all that fast?" Ami thought, wondering who he chose. She continued to try and decipher his handwriting from afar before his arms covered the paper. She stopped trying and made eye contact with the annoyed expression on Bakugo's face.
"The hell are you looking at, Habanero?" Bakugo growled, lightly.
"Who'd you pick?" Ami asked, smugly. Her smug expression made Bakugo glare at her in silence for a few seconds before replying.
"..." He said nothing and simply stared at her. Ami didn't relent and smiled.
"C'mon…." She begged, making him narrow his eyes.
"I'm not telling you." He answered bluntly.
"Ugh." Ami groaned, dropping her face on the desk.
"You're the champion. You had to have gotten some good offers. Can I guess?" Ami said, clasping her hands together in prayer. She whimpered a bit and made her lips quiver. Bakugo growled at her bad acting.
"You're gonna guess even if I say no, aren't you?" Bakugo accused, glaring at her.
"Yup." She quickly replied.
"Of course." He said, rolling his eyes.
"Go ahead..." He relented, giving her permission to guess. Ami smiled widely at him and bounced a little in excitement.
"Ironhide?" She guessed, getting him to shake his head.
"No." He replied, leaning back into his seat.
"Hot Rod?" Ami guessed, thinking of another pro hero. Bakugo heard the name and glanced at her, raising an eyebrow.
"Who?" He asked, deconfirming her guess. She frowned and said the first name she thought of.
"Death Arms." She blurted, causing Bakugo to look at her in confusion.
"Are you even trying?" He asked, narrowing his eyes. Ami sneered and shrugged her shoulders, moving onto a more popular choice.
"Alright. I'll go higher. Best Jeanist." She guessed, feeling more enthusiastic with that choice. Bakugo heard the guess and raised his eyebrows, keeping up a well contained look of surprise on his face.
"Took long enough." Bakugo said, folding his arms together. Ami brightened up at the reply, understanding the implication. She let out a gasp in delight and mentally celebrated her guess.
"Wait. Really?" Ami asked, not wanting to feel lied to about her correct guess.
"Yes. Really." He scoffed, shaking his head an inch.
"Wow…That's amazing. You got an offer from the Number Four Hero in the country?" Ami praised, causing Bakugo to crack a smug expression. He found it hard to subdue his smile for some reason.
"Mhm." He replied, nodding his head in satisfaction.
"Who else? Did the Number Three Hero ask for you?" Ami questioned, curiously. The smug look on Bakugo's face dampened a bit at the question.
"Didn't offer." He stated, hiding the disappointment. Ami noticed his smug expression falter and frowned a bit herself.
"I see…" She said, thinking about other famous heroes. With All Might and the Number Three Hero not offering this year that meant only one hero left. Endeavor. She knew for a fact Endeavor was offering this year. After all, she had gotten an offer. And since Bakugo did beat her and Todoroki, it stood to reason that Endeavor would send an offer to Bakugo as well. With that thought in her head, she glanced at Todoroki sitting far in the back of the class and saw the usual quiet expression on his face. She looked back at Bakugo and asked the question.
"Did Endeavor send you an offer?" Ami asked, in a low voice. Bakugo looked at Habanero and saw the seriousness in her eyes. He wasn't surprised that she was asking him that. It was the look on her face that surprised him. He thought about saying no and decided not to.
"...Yes." He answered, plainly. Ami raised her eyes a bit by the reply, not expecting to get an answer. A thought in the back of her head made her wonder if he was considering it?
"Are you gonna take it?" Ami asked, making him flare his nostrils. Flashes of the conversation they overheard entered his mind, making him think about IcyHot. He quickly brushed those thoughts aside and stared back at the wall, avoiding her eyes.
"No." He answered, getting Ami to raise her eye at him incredulously.
"Why?" She asked, puzzled by his choice.
"I don't need an old man like him to teach me anything." He explained, flaring his nostrils.
"Besides, IcyHot will probably intern with him anyway." He added, making an assumption.
"And you know that…how?" Ami asked.
"Just a hunch." He replied, plainly. Ami stared at him for a bit in confusion. Was that really the reason? Or was it more personal? She didn't bother confirming if it was because of what they knew about him. He'd more than likely deny it. After all, that would mean he cared.
"How about you? He sent you an offer?" He asked, narrowing his eyes back at her.
"Yeah, he did." She answered, folding her arms together.
"But you're not taking it, are you? Since you already chose Backdraft." Bakugo said, causing Ami to smirk at him.
"Someone was listening." She teased, making Bakugo groan in annoyance. He quickly composed himself and glared back at her.
"You know, if anyone found out you chose some random background hero over the Number Two Hero in the country, they'd think you're crazy." He stated, getting an amused nod from her.
"Mhm. And you?" She questioned, wondering what he'd say next. Bakugo let out a small snort and leaned into his seat.
"Crazy doesn't begin to describe you." He stated, causing Ami to giggle at his response. He watched Habanero giggle for a few seconds and hid his entertained expression.
"So, since you're not going with Endeavor either, who else?" Ami said, returning to the conversation.
"I'm choosing Best Jeanist." He said, matter of factly.
"Really?" She replied, raising her eyebrow even higher.
"The Hell's that supposed to mean? He's the Number Four Hero." He said, defending his choice.
"Yeah, but even so, I guess I never thought you'd pick him. He just seems a bit far from your type." Ami admitted, forming a crooked smile.
"My type?" He repeated, lifting his eyebrow even higher.
"He's nice and you're rude." She stated, bluntly. Bakugo flared his nostrils and scoffed at her statement, smirking in amusement.
"Pfft. If that mattered, he wouldn't have sent me an offer to begin with. I picked him because he's strong and he's got one of the best agencies around." He explained, looking at the look of understanding on her face.
"I guess that makes sense. Well, I'm happy for you! I think he's an awesome hero. I bet you'll definitely get stronger with him helping you." Ami congratulated, being positive. Bakugo nodded in agreement and loosened his glare.
"Satisfied, nosy?" He asked, getting a quick nod from Ami. She couldn't deny any of his words. Best Jeanist was Number Four for a reason. With the skills he has, there's no telling what Bakugo could learn from him.
"I am. Thanks, Kacchan." She said, thanking him wholeheartedly. Bakugo stared at her smile in silence for a few seconds, finding it strange how much he had appreciated her words. The very idea sounded strange in his head, yet he didn't seem to have any issue with it.
"So, then. Who else sent you offers?" Ami asked, snapping him back to reality. He heard the question and looked at her with a slightly puzzled expression.
"Huh?" He said.
"You already know who I'm choosing. The hell do you need to see my other offers for?" Bakugo questioned, staring at her incredulously.
"Just for comparison. It'll be fun to see how many heroes sent offers to both of us." Ami explained, with an excited smile.
"Please?" She begged. Repeating her plea several times to the frustration of Bakugo.
"C'mon, tell me." Ami begged, finally breaking through to Bakugo.
"Alright, fine." He said, raising his voice. He let go of the paper in his hands and crossed his arms, leaning back to give Habanero a view of his application. Ami, excited as ever, swiped her hands and leaned over towards his desk and took a look at his application. Bakugo watched Habanero get close and stare at his sheet of paper with a sparkle in her eye.
"Wow. That's a lot of pro's." She stated, noticing the names of heroes on the list. Bakugo remained quiet and listened to her excitement, surprised by the look of awe on her face. Seeing it made him blink a few times. She was closer than expected. A lot closer. It was a good thing his expression never changed otherwise she'd have surely noticed. As he sat there staring at her, the closeness made his mind wander. She wasn't this close since the end of their match. When she fell on him. The smile on her defeated face was hard to wipe away. Wait…Why was he thinking about that again? He closed his eyes and leaned even further back from his desk, wanting space after feeling weird. He kept quiet and opted to stare up at the ceiling while Ami was oblivious to his actions. He felt a further appreciation at his ability to look perpetually annoyed.
Later that day
"Hey, Deku, Ami. Wanna walk together?" Ochaco said, approaching the twins. Izuku stared at Ochaco and happily agreed, nodding his head. Ami also nodded at her, making her happy.
"Mhm." Ami said, nodding with Izuku. Ochaco smiled at the two of them and turned around, "Iida, come with us…" Ochaco said, cutting off her sentence when she saw Iida's empty seat.
"He left?" Ochaco thought, mentally questioning herself. That didn't seem like Iida. He always walked with them after school. Her smile dropped a bit and went into concern, remembering what he had told her and the twins at the Sports Festival.
"I bet he already decided where he wants to do his internship. My guess is he's off turning his forms in right now." Izuku assumed, opening the door.
"Ahhahaha! I am here in a bizarre position!" All Might said, placing himself right in front of Izuku at eye level. The twins jumped a bit upon seeing All Might slide out of nowhere in his bizarre position.
"Um- yeah, what's that about, and why are you in such a hurry?" Izuku asked, recovering from the jumpscare.
"Hi. Come with me for a sec, you two." All Might said, motioning his fingers towards him.
"What's this about?" Ami asked.
"Something's come up for young Midoriya that I'd like to discuss. You coming along, Young Ami?" All Might asked, looking at Ami.
"Sure, I guess…" Ami replied, glancing at Izuku for a second.
"Great! Come with me!" All Might nodded, standing up at full height. Ami and Izuku turned back and saw the confusion on Ochaco's face.
"Uh. We'll be back in a few minutes if you still wanna walk with us." Izuku said.
"That's fine. I'll just wait for you guys here. Later!" Ochaco waved, watching the two of them leave with All Might. The twins followed All Might down the halls unsure of what he wanted to discuss with them. It didn't take long before they entered the Teacher's lounge again. All Might entered the room first and quickly closed the door as soon as the twins entered. After making sure the door was locked, All Might turned around and faced Izuku.
"I'll get straight to the point. You've received an offer from a hero who'd like to take you on." He explained, causing Izuku to smile at the news.
"Ha. Sweet. You got an offer after all, Izzy! That's great." Ami said, giving Izuku a congratulatory hug.
"But from who?" Izuku questioned.
"The hero's name is Gran Torino. He taught at this school back in my day, but only for one year. In fact, the man was my homeroom teacher." All Might answered, making the twins gasp.
"He knows about One For All, as well. Actually, I suspect that's the reason he asked for you." He added, making the twins gasp even louder.
"Your homeroom teacher? And he knows One For All?" Ami repeated, excitedly.
"This guy sounds totally awesome!" The twins said in unison, looking at each other in excitement.
"Wait. So, he knows how your quirk works, too? But how?" Izuku asked.
"Gran Torino was the sworn friend of my predecessor. He retired a long time ago, so I forget to count him among the people who know." He explained.
"Sworn friend of my predecessor? This Gran Torino guy must know all about the previous holder." Ami thought, keeping her assumptions to herself. As she put the thought away in her head, she noticed All Might start to shake more and more. All Might didn't even try to hide his nervousness as he started to grunt anxiously.
"Is this because I wrote about you in the letter I sent him? Or did he watch the festival and think that my teaching was inadequate? If he went so far as to use his old hero name when making the offer… it's scary. Too scary. Damnit, legs, stop shaking!" All Might grunted, smacking his legs with his hand in an attempt to calm down. The twins watched All Might's shaking with fear and confusion.
"All Might is seriously freaking out right now." Ami thought.
"Anyway, it is my duty to train you. But, since you got an offer, you should work with him this week if that's what your heart says. Anyway, H-h-here's the-the-the-the address." All Might said, trying his hardest to hand Izuku the piece of paper with his shaky hand. Ami looked at the emotion All Might was displaying and felt herself gulp a little.
"Just how scary is this guy?" She thought, gripping her backpack strap.
UA Faculty Room
Aizawa stared at the submitted forms in his hand and read the choices his students had settled on. Most of them picked heroes that best suited them. Some of them were a little unordinary but understandable. Ochaco chose to intern with Gunhead, making Aizawa wonder what for. It didn't take long to figure out her reasoning as he stamped the application with his approval.
"Internships, huh? Snipe asked, appearing behind Aizawa.
"Yeah. A few students already chose theirs." Aizawa answered, aware of Snipe's presence.
"It is an important time for them. Make sure they do it right. Plenty a' third years still regret their picks." Snipe warned, walking off to another part of the room. Aizawa nodded in agreement and continued reading through the students' choices. He flipped through the applications and found Iida's submission. He read it through and quickly raised his eyes at the paper questionably.
"Iida only listed one place. That's strange. Must have gotten better offers than this one." Aizawa thought out loud, reading the location of his submission.
"A hero agency in Hosu. Don't tell me…" Aizawa thought, quickly figuring out the reason for Iida's choice.
"What, you got an offer? Go, Deku! That's awesome!" Ochaco said, congratulating Izuku.
"Yeah! Thanks." Izuku replied, with a small blush.
"Aw, man. Did Iida go home without us?" Ochaco said, frowning a little in disappointment. Izuku stared at Iida's locker with a frown of his own, thinking back to how he acted in class earlier.
"After the Sports Festival, Iida's big brother was all over the news. It turns out he'd been attacked in Hosu City, Tokyo. The person responsible had apparently already killed 17 heroes in the past, and hurt 23 so badly that they were beyond recovery. He's a scourge on the pro community. The elusive hero killer. His villain name? Stain."
"Later, I was surprised to hear that he'd taken an internship in Hosu City, the same place where his big brother had been left for dead. But I felt like I couldn't ask him anything about it, since he'd never come to me wanting to talk. That's just how things were between us as we approached the first days of our internships." Izuku narrated.
Internships Day One - Musutafu Train Station - Early Morning
"Everyone has their costumes, right?" Aizawa asked, receiving nods from the class. Aizawa and the class had gathered at the train station that morning. Each student had arrived with luggages containing their hero costumes and other things. The students were eager to get going on the trains and reach their internship destinations.
"Remember, you don't have permission to wear them out in public yet, and don't lose them or anything." He warned, staring at the class with half shut eyes.
"Gotcha!" Mina exclaimed, excitedly raising her luggage above her head. Aizawa was unamused by the excitement and reprimanded her.
"Speak properly! It's, "Yes, Sir," Ashido." Aizawa instructed, shutting her down on the spot.
"Yes, Sir..." She relented, dropping her luggage with an apologetic frown.
"Make sure you mind your manners with the other heroes during your internships. Now get to it." He ordered, letting the students go.
"Yes, Sir!" The class said in unison, quickly dispersing. Iida watched his classmates all say their goodbye to each other and remained silent. He turned around and slowly walked off, escaping everyone's line of sight. Everyone except-
"Hey, Iida, wait up!" Ami exclaimed, catching Iida's attention. For a split second, he considered ignoring her but he had already stopped before he realized it. His consciousness wouldn't allow it. He turned around and made eye contact with Ami, watching her nod at him. He adjusted his glasses and nodded back in silence, hoping she was just saying goodbye and nothing else. He quickly remembered overhearing where Ami wanted to intern and started from there.
"Ami. I thought you were interning with Backdraft?" Iida asked, adjusting his glasses. Ami laughed at the question and knew what he was thinking. She quickly fumbled through her pocket and pulled out a train ticket.
"I am." She answered, nodding her head.
"Can you believe it? I'm going to Hosu, too. Which is strange because Backdraft usually operates in Musutafu, but, oh well. What are the odds, huh?" Ami explained, getting a surprised look from Iida. He wasn't expecting to have to go to Hosu with someone else in class.
"So, it looks like we'll be taking the same train together." Ami smiled, laughing at the situation.
"...I see." Iida said, hesitantly. He quickly adapted to this news and mentally sighed. No matter. As long as there aren't any more distractions, the trip should be relatively quiet. However, Izuku and Uraraka appeared behind Ami with equally nervous expressions.
"Hey, Iida. If you ever wanna talk or anything, just let us know." Izuku said, looking at Iida with sympathy.
"Mhm. Mhm." Ochaco nodded.
"We're friends, right?" Izuku asked, hoping for an answer.
"Yes. Don't worry. I'm fine." Iida nodded, turning his back on his classmates. Ochaco and the twins watched him leave for a few seconds and mentally sighed. The three of them knew the reason for his unusual behavior. Ami frowned and squeezed her own luggage. She sighed audibly and shrugged, turning back around and forming an awkward smile at Izuku.
"Well, guess it's time to get moving. I'll call you tonight, Izzy. Wherever I'm supposed to go." Ami smiled, giving Izuku a hug.
"Mhm. I'll be waiting." Izuku replied, returning the hug and smiling. They quickly separated and went the opposite way. Ami walked to her train and waved goodbye at Izuku and Ochaco.
Bye, Izuku! Bye, Uraraka!" Ami waved.
"Bye." Izuku hollered, waving back at Ami.
"Hey, Iida. Wait up." Ami said, turning around and rushing towards Iida. He didn't slow down for Ami at all but she easily caught up to him. The two of them entered the train together and found seats in a mostly empty cabin. After a few minutes of waiting, the train doors closed and the vehicle finally started to move. Ami looked outside the window during most of the train ride, choosing to keep quiet while Iida did whatever he was doing. She'd glance at what he was doing from time-to-time and would catch him reading a pamphlet about train safety. None of them said a word to each other as the train ride continued.
That didn't sit well with Ami, however. She remembered how she felt when Iida told them about his older brother. It was terrible. Unexpected. And tragic. She couldn't imagine what thoughts were going through his head right now. Nor could she imagine the pain. Looking at the floor, she frowned and took a deep breath. She couldn't stay quiet any longer. Whether or not he realized it, he needed someone to talk to about this. Eventually, after an hour passed, Ami finally decided to break the ice.
"Hosu City. It's not too far away now." Ami said, looking outside the train window. She could see the slightest bit of Iida's reflection through the window and made note of his movements. Iida heard her voice and raised his head up a little, but not enough to notice what she was doing. Narrowing her eyes at his reflection, she squeezed her hands and mustered up the courage to get his full attention. She turned her head and stared directly at Iida, gulping anxiously. She put her hand up to her mouth and cleared her throat loud enough to get his attention. Iida raised his head up all the way and instantly made eye contact with Ami.
"So, Iida…Who did you intern with?" Ami asked, breaking the ice. Iida was slightly taken aback by the sudden question and mumbled a bit. Ami heard his mumbling and simply smiled back at him, not hearing a word. Iida could tell she was trying to listen to his mumbling and mentally sighed, speaking up more clearly.
"Manual. I chose Manual." Iida replied with hesitation. Ami nodded at his answer in appreciation. That was a good start. Ami already knew who Iida had chosen from his peers, but she wanted to hear it straight from Iida's mouth. Anything to get him to open up and talk. Receiving the answer she was looking for, she nodded along and continued talking.
"Oh, Manual? I know him." She grinned, proud of the fact. Out of all the heroes in Hosu, she was happy Manual was one of the heroes she knew about. She had learned about him through a news report a couple years ago. Iida heard the recognition in her voice and was surprised that she knew who Manual was.
"You do?" Iida asked, getting a nod from Ami.
"Yup. He's a water hero. I've seen him team up with Backdraft before sometimes." Ami explained, getting a nod in understanding. He didn't know about that. He honestly didn't know much about Manual at all. It was no surprise that Manual would be familiar with Backdraft. They are both water heroes after all. With that thought in his head, another one appeared that made him worry.
"Could this be why Ami's internship is here in Hosu? Is Backdraft working with Manual on something? If that's true, then that'll complicate things even more with Ami around." Iida thought, getting more worried about his plans coming undone. He shrugged it off and listened to Ami talk.
"He's kinda like you, actually. Professional, respectful, by the books, and he's really nice." Ami said, drawing comparisons between them.
"Knowing you, I bet you chose him because of those traits, huh?" Ami asked, making Iida reluctant to reply.
"...Yeah." He answered, pretending to agree. The worry he had in the back of his head caused him to second guess the conversation.
"Is she on to me?" He thought, repeating in his head.
"Hey, maybe we'll run into each other during our internships." Ami said, letting out a tiny forceful laugh. Iida felt sweat drip down his forehead at Ami's insinuation.
"Still, I didn't think you'd pick him out of all the offers you got, though. You must've received a ton of offers for heroes better suited for your quirk." Ami pointed out, causing Iida's chest to tighten up. His fears overrode his critical thinking at the moment and took control.
"So what if I did have better offers!?" Iida blurted out, standing up out of his seat.
"I chose Manual and that's final, can you respect that? Now if you've got something to say to me then just say it!" Iida accused, clenching his fists and raising his voice. Ami was taken aback by Iida's outburst and stayed silent, completely freezing up. Iida flared his nostrils and took several deep breaths. He quickly realized his mistake and loosened his glare, calming back down and unclenching his fists. He frowned and stared at his hands, feeling regret over his actions.
"I'm…Sorry. I don't know what came over me." Iida apologized, feeling grief. He slowly sat back down in his seat and sighed, placing his hands on his head. Ami looked at him with remorse, feeling bad for pushing him. She quickly stood up and approached Iida, sitting down next to him on his left.
"No. I'm sorry. I didn't start this conversation with good intentions. I'm prodding into something that I shouldn't be." Ami said, admitting her true motives. Iida let go of his face and turned towards her, looking at the guilty expression on her face. Ami felt ashamed and stared down at the floor with a frown, remembering what All Might had told Izuku.
"But, listen. Meddling where you don't technically have to, is the essence of being a hero." All Might said. Ami remembered those words and flared her nostrils, looking back up at Iida with a serious face.
"I know how hard it is to keep your emotions hidden. You haven't been acting yourself around us lately. No one wants to point it out because of what you went through. But, I'm telling you now, that's not healthy." Ami warned, causing Iida to frown.
"I'm not stupid, Iida. The others aren't, either. We know why you're going to Hosu." Ami admitted, surprising Iida. He heard what Ami said and hesitated for a few seconds, feeling his anger rise up again. He took another deep breath and tried to keep his cool.
"How much does everyone know?" He asked, wondering how much the others truly knew. Ami quietly gulped and answered the question, brushing away hair in her face.
"Only what they saw on the news. Ingenium was attacked. You're his brother. And of all the places to intern, you chose the one where he was attacked." Ami explained, pointing out everything the others knew. Iida nodded slowly in understanding, feeling his body tense up.
"I didn't watch the news. What did it say?" He asked, slightly mumbling. Ami heard his question and did her best to remember what they said.
"It's mostly under wraps at the moment. They said Ingenium was injured and another hero was found dead. That was all, though. They even kept the hospital he's staying in a secret." Ami said, remembering what she heard on the news. Although that was two days ago. She wasn't sure if the media did know the hospital yet.
"I see. I guess it's no secret why I chose Manual then." Iida guessed, receiving a hesitant nod. He nodded in understanding and stared down at the floor, taking a deep breath and sighing loudly. Ami felt her heart beating faster in anxiety yet kept her composure. She clasped her hands together and rubbed them repeatedly.
"How is he? Your brother…" She asked, causing Iida to look back up at her.
"The news wasn't very clear about his injuries." She clarified, hoping to hear some good news.
"...He's recovering fine." Iida answered, reluctantly.
"That's good at least-" Ami said before getting interrupted by Iida's distress.
"But he won't be the same. He was stabbed in the stomach. Then his right shoulder. And then…on his spine…I-I haven't told anyone else about his condition yet, but, my brother, he's…he's paralyzed from the waist down." Iida admitted, causing Ami to gasp in shock. She covered her mouth to lower the volume of her shocked gasp and stared at Iida with sympathetic teary eyes.
"What?" She muttered through her hand. Iida saw the emotion in her face and could barely look at her, opting to stare back down at the floor.
"His body was too badly damaged to heal. Not even science or a quirk could do anything. When I visited him the other day, he told me himself that he was retiring from hero work." He explained, feeling his body shake from the misery.
"Iida, that's terrible. I'm so sorry." Ami apologized, feeling terrible for forcing Iida to talk about the subject. She placed a hand on his shoulder out of sympathy, trying to hold in her tears.
"No wonder he's been quiet about what happened. He went to school today knowing his older brother couldn't be Ingenium. The person he looked up to most. He's had that weight on his shoulders this entire time." Ami thought, feeling worse. She felt tears begin to break through her barriers and tried to suppress them.
"I'm sorry. What happened to Ingenium. It was horrible…" She said, expressing sympathy.
"Yes. Y-Yes it was…" Iida stuttered, holding back his frown, "What that villain did to my brother. I can barely find the words to describe it. It was vile, monstrous. And…Rocket." He said, clenching his fists and feeling his knuckles crack.
"Huh?" Ami stuttered, thrown off by the name. Iida could tell this was Ami's first time hearing about the dead Hero and explained himself.
"He's the Hero that monster murdered." He said, feeling his voice crack.
"Did you know him?" Ami asked. Iida shook his head in response.
"No. He was my brother's friend." He explained.
"I'm sorry. I had no idea." Ami apologized, feeling sorry for his brother's loss.
"Don't worry about it." Iida said, quickly. He sniffled a bit and took faster breaths.
"The Hero Killer…he's out there somewhere doing who knows what while my brother is stuck in the hospital. It makes me angry, I hate him. I want- I need him to answer for what he's done." Iida said, narrowing his eyes in anger.
"That's why, when Mr. Aizawa told us about the hero drafts, I knew exactly what to do." Iida said, feeling his hatred form into one target.
"I want to find the Hero Killer. I want him to pay!" He growled, gritting his teeth. Ami stared at his aggressive display and felt unsettled. She was scared of him. Worried for him. Iida noticed her silence and felt sorry. He coughed and flared his nostrils, looking down at the floor to hide his rage.
"...If you're going to stop me, try to convince me to back down, then don't bother. I want justice." Iida said, pounding his fists on his lap in anger.
"It's alright. I wasn't going to." Ami said, surprising Iida once more. He stopped what he was doing and turned his head, staring at Ami with wide eyes.
"Huh? Wh-what?" Iida stuttered, feeling his mouth drop. Ami looked at his surprised expression and adjusted her seat. She knew he'd be shocked by her words. She had anticipated it.
"If I wanted to stop you. I would've made you miss the train." She stated, getting a confused look from Iida.
"I figured by now there'd be no going back. We're already heading to Hosu. I don't blame you for wanting revenge. I can relate to a certain degree about your feelings. If anything were to happen to Izuku, I don't know what I would do...I just know that I'd want the same thing that you do. Even if everyone tells me it's a bad idea." Ami said, explaining her reasoning.
"You're… You're not going to stop me?" Iida asked, genuinely shocked.
"No." Ami said, shaking her head.
"Or tell anyone?" He asked.
"No." Ami said, making Iida tense up. He looked away from her and gathered his thoughts. Ami's answers sent a rush of emotions towards his face. First, it was fear of getting told to stop. Now, it was replaced with surprise at the fact she was allowing him to continue his pursuit of the Hero Killer. He closed his eyes and breathed in and out, squinting his eyes as tears fell out of them.
"...Thank you, Ami." Iida said, rubbing his eyes with his arm.
"You're welcome, but, Iida…" Ami said, getting his attention. He wiped the tears away and opened his eyes slightly, staring at the serious expression on Ami's face.
"Just because I'm keeping this between us doesn't mean you're off the hook. If you find him….Think about us, think about your family, think about Ingenium. Don't fight him alone, I'm begging you. The moment you find him, you call for help. Get everyone after him, understand? I don't want to see your face on the news, okay?" Ami said, feeling her voice crack a little. Iida listened to the sadness in her voice and tensed up. He took a deep breath and nodded.
"Okay, Ami. I'll…I'll do my best to listen to your advice." Iida said with a slight struggle.
"That's all I ask. Your Izuku's friend, as well as mine. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't say something before you did this."
The rest of the train ride was quiet once more as the two students reached an understanding. Iida had the conversation repeat in his head several times. One part in particular stood out to him. Everyone knows why he was going to Hosu. Everyone. It seemed obvious now. When choosing who to intern with, the final okay had to be from the teacher, Mr. Aizawa. Mr. Aizawa wasn't an idiot, either. If the class knew, then so did the teacher. So, then…why did he approve of this? He thought about that question for the rest of the trip. When the train had come to a stop, Ami stood up out of her seat and stretched, letting out a long sigh as her muscles relaxed.
"This is my stop. Be careful, Iida. Remember what I said, you hear?" Ami said, looking at Iida. Iida looked at her with a solemn expression and nodded.
"I will, Ami. Thank you for understanding what I'm going through. If I see him, I'll call for help. I promise. I am the Class President, after all." Iida said, making a tiny smile. Ami saw the smile on his lips and smirked, laughing a little. His promise lightened the air between them.
"Yeah. I'll see you at school, Iida." Ami said, being hopeful. Ami walked towards the exit and entered the Hosu City train station while Iida stood up and stared at her from the door. The two classmates waved goodbye at eachother one final time before the train doors closed once more.
"I left Iida at the station after that. He smiled and waved goodbye at me, but I knew he wasn't being completely honest. Still, I smiled and waved back. I knew any attempt to convince him not to go through with this would get him angry. I also knew by the time we got on the train together, nothing I said to him would change his mind. That's why I didn't. Instead, I told him that if he ever saw the Hero Killer, that he'd at least think of us before doing anything brash. I hoped that by allowing him to do this, he'd think first before getting himself injured. Or worse…"
"I just hoped that I wouldn't regret it in the days to come."
Hosu City - Unknown Building
Backdraft stood in the center of the room, staring at the wide view of the city. Hosu City. It was a nice view since the building was placed atop a hill, looking far out at the cityscape. He admired the view and stared at the ground. Buses were lining up on the road leading to the front door, opening up and releasing several new people. He was impressed by the size of the crowd forming lines. Today was a busy day for the museum. It was also going to be a busy day for him because today was day one of internships. And any minute now, he'd see a familiar student come out of those buses.
"So, today's the day, huh?" Wyvern asked, snapping Backdraft's attention away from the view. He raised his head up and turned around, staring at the stoic redhead to his right. He was eating pretzels in his hero costume, again.
"It is." Backdraft nodded, looking back at the window. Wyvern watched him do this and raised his eyebrow at him, eating away.
"She got the letter, right? To go here?" Wyvern asked, hoping she wasn't lost.
"Yes. I made sure. She should arrive any minute now." Backdraft affirmed, continuing to stare down at the buses.
"Alright." Wyvern said, continuing to eat. He checked his watch on his wrist and read the time, remembering the schedule for today.
"Hey! A bunch of kids usually arrive at this time so don't get confused." Wyvern warned, scarfing down more pretzels.
"I appreciate it." Backdraft said, throwing his pipe hand up and forming a thumbs up out of water.
"Alright." Wyvern said, leaving the room for Backdraft to be alone.
New Author's Notes: Important. Please read.
Hello, everyone! If you are reading this, that means you just finished reading the updated version of this chapter. Some things are different, some things are the same. Tons of things were added, removed, rearranged, and rewritten. In total, I added 7000 words to the original chapter. The story went from a short 13.9k words to a more standard 20k chapter.
Before I talk about the chapter, I want to talk about the things that happened while I was on break. So, in the old Author's Notes below, I mentioned I would try to find a job. If you've been reading my profile bio, then you can probably guess how well that turned out. I, unfortunately got Covid for the first time and it kept me at home. Which kept me from job searching. So, August was spent on College and setting up for transfer. It took away a lot of my time which led me to the present day. Present day being whenever I upload this chapter. My Bio also showed the progress I was making on the chapter. The next chapter will hopefully come soon but will likely be posted in October.
So, let's start on the changes. The obvious difference is how the chapter starts. Back when I was originally writing this chapter, I was going to start it like this but I decided to leave it out of the original release.
What I was going to do instead was save this opening for the next chapter. However, as I was writing the next chapter, I realized it didn't belong there. That was when I realized my mistake and decided to re-add it back to this chapter. So, technically, this was the first thing I wrote for this chapter.
This beginning is meant to provide context for events mentioned in previous chapters. Specifically, the voicemail left by Tsukauchi to Wyvern. It's meant to show the aftermath of the prison bus incident as well as explain Backdraft's role in the investigation. He was one of the first heroes to arrive at the scene to help with the fire. The beginning was also meant to set up the coming conflict in later chapters.
The next differences are how Ami and Bakugo interacted in the chapter. I completely changed it from the original. I felt I needed to change their interactions a bit to show more of Bakugo's new and confusing feelings. You'll also notice how he greeted Deku. Ami and Bakugo's interactions needed a little more oomph to it so I added things to it as well as more details. Since I don't remember mentioning it, Ami's hero name for Bakugo is a reference to what I think the fandom calls Bakugo. I've read some fics with the name Ground Zero so I decided to pay tribute to it. These fics were also made before Bakugo's actual hero name was shown so I was paying my respects. Bakugo's hero name is a manga spoiler that I actually know about. I will go into more detail about manga spoilers in a couple paragraphs.
Anyways, I hope the interactions were good. Please let me know in the reviews.
Anyways, about Ami and Iida's conversation. For this one, the changes weren't too big. Just rearranging some lines and changing them slightly to fit in. Another thing added was the small mention of the hero that Stain killed. I realized that I was ignoring that part of the change I added to canon and knew it needed to be addressed more.
Lastly, the new ending. Instead of ending the chapter abruptly like in the original, I added a new scene for context involving the next chapter. It was meant to tease the location of Ami's internship. That's pretty much it now in regards to changes. I don't plan on adding more things to it but if there's any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors, please let me know.
Thanks for the feedback I received from this chapter's original release. I really appreciated the reviews left by you guys. Thank you for allowing me to take some time off. I feel a lot better now so, hopefully, I can start releasing chapters every month again. Anyways, tell me how you feel about this revamped chapter. Did you like the changes? Was there anything you wanted to know? Leave questions and opinions in reviews and I'll answer them in DM or in the Author's Notes for the next chapter.
Before I truly end these notes for good there are some things I need to readdress again. I am not a manga reader. I am anime only since I'm too poor to buy all the volumes at Barnes & Noble (US Bookstore). That said, my knowledge about manga spoilers is very limited. About a couple weeks ago, I was contacted by a few people about the recent manga release and how it'll fit into this story. Something happened involving Bakugo and that's where I will leave it at. Although a few weeks after those messages, it seems like another manga release might have calmed people down. I don't know what's going on with Bakugo as I tend to avoid the spoiler reviews on YouTube. But you don't have to worry about it affecting this story. So far, my plan is to finish season 3 and be finished. The big reason I'm able to write these chapters is because I own every episode of My Hero Academia on Digital. It goes from season 1 to 4. That's why writing Season 4 is only a possibility for me. As far as I'm aware, the dub for Season 5 isn't available to own digitally.
Now since you've all waited for a long time I think I can tell you a little more about what's going to be in the next chapter.
The next chapter will be called, "Ami's Internship!"
Ami reunites with Backdraft but not before getting caught up in the wonder of her internship location. Wyvern will return with his quirk finally being revealed. When this chapter is uploaded, check my bio for progress on the next one. Anyways, thanks for reading my story, everyone! I hope the extended chapter will satisfy you all till the next chapter. Please be sure to write reviews and tell me if I messed up anywhere. That is all. Thanks for reading and have a good day!
Old Author's Notes: Extremely Important (Outdated. Kept for Archival Purposes. No longer important to read.)
Hello, everyone! Welcome back to the story! Once again, it seems I was only able to release one chapter during the month of May which is a big disappointment for me. As you all know, College is a big deal. Finals, most of all, was no easy task for me. Wednesday two weeks ago was the end of my finals so I was pretty tired. I had the whole month of May to study and work on finals, which is why this chapter is coming out so late. Thanks to the people who left reviews for the last two chapters.
But I need to address several things that'll be hard to admit. In my profile, I foolishly provided a release date set for June 10th because I thought I could finish it in time. However, things took a turn. Last chapter, I mentioned that my sister had recently given birth to my nephew. Well during that time between May 2nd and now, there are some medical problems that occured that I won't discuss for being too personal. But, basically, my nephew relies on Baby Formula at the moment. It's a specific brand formula that he needs so we have to look for it a lot. But, to my readers in other countries. Right now, America is experiencing a shortage for Baby Formula. This has made finding the right formula very hard for us. That's what made me delay the writing for this chapter. We looked everywhere for the right baby formula and managed to find at least a few. The formula is in my sister's hands now thankfully so my nephew will be okay.
The other thing that led to me delaying the writing is my own sleep schedule. Currently, I'm writing this Author's Notes after waking up today at 12am. I did it again and pulled an all nighter just so this chapter could release today and looks somewhat presentable. Anyways, I have not been getting much sleep recently. I think I only get like 3 and a half to 4 hours of sleep every night and that's terrible. I strongly advise everyone to get enough sleep at night in order to stay healthy. I've been feeling so horrible off and on that it's pretty much affected my work. I've been feeling pretty tired most days. I don't have to go to college until the fall.
There is also something I can't hold back on anymore and that is I need a job. I'm going to try and get one this summer. Whatever happens, it'll probably slow down any new chapters by a ton. I thought I could keep consistent and post two chapters a month but I'm barely getting by posting one. I don't know if that means I'm feeling burned out but I've been falling asleep writing a lot lately. I guess I am overwhelmed at the moment because I felt like I was losing my mind writing this chapter even though it was mostly set up and the originality wasn't very big. The worst part is the word length.
I swear, writing for extended periods drains the english vocabulary out of me like hardcore. Writing description and emotion has gotten harder for me to the point I give up after writing a paragraph. This weird feeling is so exhausting because I want to keep writing but literally nothing is coming to my brain. I've drawn blanks several dozen times during the writing process. And as every day goes by the more weight gets added to my shoulders. It's starting to feel like I'm disappointing you guys, which I don't want to do. Especially at such a time as this one.
The story hit 200 followers last month. I couldn't say anything until now which is sad for me. I want to be happy and positive and say I'm ramping up production but I feel like saying that would be a complete and total lie now. The truth is I want to keep writing but I don't want to at the same time. I guess I need a vacation. A month's break before I get too into this next arc because it's a big one and I need to be at my A game for it.
So, unfortunately, I say this with tons of guilt, I'm taking a break. I don't want to but I feel like my writing needs one at this point. Otherwise the quality of this story is just gonna keep on degrading and degrading. This chapter already doesn't feel like it's at the quality I'm happy with even though I've spent all this time working on it. Anyways, that's all I can say for the time being. Once this chapter is posted I will start taking a break. I will probably provide some tiny bits of edits here and there for this chapter. So be sure to point out any grammar or big mistakes I made in this chapter. I need it. A ton of it. Please leave a review and tell me your thoughts and feedback. I want to hear what you have to say so I can return and make the next chapters the best they can be.
I'm sorry for any disappointment you might feel reading this. When I get back into writing, I will try my absolute best to release the next chapter quickly. I will also work hard to make it better than this chapter. It's just things have been crazy this week and before. With that all said, I think the chapter came out okay. I hope so. The most important part of the chapter is actually the end for me. Ami and Iida's conversation is the last time they will speak to each other until after this arc ends. I wanted it to show that Ami is also living up to All Might's words by meddling in Iida's worries. Why didn't Ami try to stop Iida? Well she knows it wouldn't work. She knows exactly how Iida is feeling at least a little. And because she would do the same thing. If Izuku had lost his life against the sludge villain, Ami would for sure want the same thing Iida does with Stain. That's the similarity they share. They are willing to avenge their siblings even if it turns them to vigilantism.
I say this one final time. I am so sorry for this chapter. I want to write more but I can't do it without delaying it and upsetting people. I don't want to upset people. That said, thank you for reading the chapter and these Author's Notes. If you have anything to tell me please don't hold back in your reviews. If you notice any glaring issues like grammar or continuity errors, please point them out to me. I'm still taking a break after this is posted so I can relax, maybe find a job, and return to writing again at full strength. I will only take a break for about a month meaning the next chapter will probably be released sometime in August.
I will edit this chapter a little. It might be small edits. It might be big edits. Heck, I might update the Author's Notes later as I feel I already failed at explaining away Ami and Iida's conversation. Honestly, I feel terrible for releasing it the way it is now as I think it's my worst so far. Still, I will keep it up. If I think it really needs work I will remove it and reupload it again with a hopefully even better chapter length. I'm sorry for delays and I hope you understand now what has been going on in my life that led to these delays. Thanks for 200 followers. I'm so happy that so many people are taking the time to read my story. I will return to this story after the break. Mark my words. I'm not giving up on this story. That said, thanks for reading and have a good day!
