Ami took soft breaths as she turned her head left-and-right. She felt an overwhelming sense of exhaustion as she regained consciousness. She listened to the sounds around her and heard the steady beep of a nearby machine.
"Where am I?" She thought, feeling out of it. She listened to the machine and slowly opened her eyes, staring up at the white ceiling. She immediately kept her eyes half-shut upon seeing the bright lights on the ceiling. They blinded her, causing her to grit her teeth and squint. It was hard to see her surroundings through the bright lights.
She frowned while gritting her teeth, squirming around in her soft bed. She flexed her fingers and wiggled her hands. They were underneath the warm blanket that covered her entire body from the neck down. She moved her hands around and touched her waist, rubbing her hips in confusion. She felt lighter and less equipped, sending alarms through her head. She wasn't wearing her costume anymore. She inspected her body in silent alarm, feeling a soft fabric around her body. It was comfortable, whatever she was wearing now. She frowned and felt her legs, making contact with her skin. She was wearing shorts instead of her bodysuit.
"My costume..." Ami thought, finished feeling around. She kept her eyes squinted and laid gently on a soft pillow. Despite how comfortable everything felt, she needed to move. She raised her head up and lifted her covers, staring at her new clothes. She was wearing a white gown where her hero costume should have been. On her legs, she had gray shorts on. She looked at her clothes in confusion, wondering who changed her clothes.
"Where did my costume go?" She thought, letting go of the blanket. She placed her hands above the blanket and looked back up at the blinding lights with a sigh. She assumed it was the doctors. It made sense to her since where she was right now was clearly a hospital.
"Ami…" A voice gasped, lightly. Ami recognized the voice coming from her left side and turned her head towards that direction. Sitting in a chair in full costume was none other than Backdraft, who stared at her with relief. Ami looked at Backdraft and felt her heart speed up, changing her frown into a tiny smile. She felt a huge sense of relief seeing Backdraft in front of her. Backdraft stared at the tiny smile on Ami's face and loosened his shoulders. Seeing her smile made the weight on them disappear, filling him with happiness.
"B-backdraft…" Ami whispered, choking up. She felt a lump in her throat, causing her to pause. She brought a hand to her neck and rubbed her throat in confusion. The feeling was strange. It was like she hadn't talked for a while and needed time for her throat to adjust. The tiny smile disappeared on her face, returning back to a concerned frown as the implications of her throat lump entered her mind.
"Why was it so hard to speak just now?" Ami thought, darting her half-shut eyes around the room in concern. She spotted the machine responsible for the steady beeping sound on the left side of her bed, facing closer to the wall. She could see her vitals on the monitor above the machine, as well as Backdraft looking at her with concern.
The bright lights made everything a pain to look at as she tried to adjust to them. Ami knew something was off about her condition. She should've adjusted her eyes by now, but she was still having trouble. It was like she had her eyes closed for a long period of time. The thought of moving was still fresh in her mind, prompting her to take action. She gulped and attempted to raise her chest up off the bed, however, a new uncomfortable sensation formed in her chest. At the same time, Backdraft rested his wrist pipe on her left shoulder in protest, preventing her from raising upward.
"Not so fast, Midoriya." Backdraft warned, softly pushing her back into bed. Ami heard his warning as her head made contact with her pillow, feeling a stinging sensation from her chest. She squeezed her bed sheets in response, gritting her teeth and bearing through the stinging pain. Backdraft saw this and let go of her as she fell back into bed, wincing in pain.
"Oooh…" She groaned, releasing her grip on the bed sheets and sending both her hands under her blanket. The sudden sting from her chest gave her anguish. It was a small internal pain, like a cramp, causing her lips to pout. She closed her eyes and gritted her teeth, letting out another small groan in misery.
"Ow…" Ami whimpered, placing her hands on her chest. She rubbed at the source of her pain, doing nothing to stop the cramping sensation. The pain was coming from inside her body. Right above her stomach. She knew exactly where it was. It was her flame organ. She kept her eyes closed and teeth gritted, getting Backdraft's attention. He stared at her reaction to the pain inside her body and frowned, feeling sympathy towards her condition. He knew exactly what part of her body was giving her trouble.
"Stay in bed, Midoriya. It'll pass soon. It's your flame organ, correct?" Backdraft said, making sure his assumptions were correct. Ami heard his advice and laid in bed, nodding her head slowly in acknowledgement.
"Yeah." She muttered, swallowing her own saliva in discomfort. She focused on a specific part of his advice and tilted her head to the left, squinting them slightly open in confusion. She looked at Backdraft as she rubbed at the skin above her flame organ.
"How'd you k-know?" She asked, wondering how Backdraft knew it was her flame organ.
"The nurses told me. It's only temporary, so, It'll go away in a few minutes." Backdraft assured her, receiving a nod from Ami in understanding.
"O-okay." She whispered, bearing through the pain. She stopped rubbing the skin above her flame organ and clenched her fists tightly. This pain was rough and rubbing seemed to do nothing to ease it. This was worse than the explosive punch she received from Bakugo during the Sports Festival. It was even worse than Kaminari's 1.3 million volts. She thought about the rest of his words and focused on the mention of nurses.
"Nurses? Does that mean I was right about this being the hospital?" Ami thought, looking at Backdraft standing up. He approached the side of her bed and stood underneath the bright lights, making it harder for her to see him.
"Where am I? Is this the hospital?" She asked, receiving a shake from Backdraft's head.
"Not quite." Backdraft answered, standing back. Ami watched him step back with a puzzled expression. He looked at his pipe wrists and held them up in the air, blocking the light for just a second. He clanked them together twice, hoping it would work for him.
"Computer, what room are we in?" Backdraft asked, surprising Ami.
"You are in the Medical Command Center on the Fifth Floor of the Science Area. Room #1."
"Huh?" Ami questioned, looking around the ceiling in confusion. She didn't see any speakers on the walls. She recognized the voice from the intercom in Training Room #1. She didn't know it worked in other parts of the Museum, making her eyes widen in realization.
"I'm still in the Museum?" Ami questioned, looking around the room in confusion. Backdraft nodded in confirmation.
"Thanks, Computer." Backdraft said, looking back down at Ami. Ami stared up at the ceiling with a straight face and squinted eyes, forming an idea. She pulled her hands back out of her blanket and raised them upward, making sure she went slow to not cause any more pain from her flame organ.
"If it worked for him…" She assumed, thinking to herself. She continued to squint and clapped her hands together twice. Backdraft watched her in silence, wondering if it would respond to her command.
"Computer, can you dim the lights?" Ami asked, waiting for a response. The room was silent for a couple seconds as the order went through. The ceiling lights dimmed, darkening to a more tolerable level. Ami grinned lightly and opened her eyes a bit wider, getting a better view of her room.
"Thank you." Ami said, looking around the room with a tiny appreciative smile. She took a deep breath and relaxed, laying her head on the pillow in comfort.
"I'm still in the Museum." She thought, staring up at the white ceiling. Her eyes adjusted to the dim lights at record speeds, opening her eyes at full size. She glanced at Backdraft and then back at her clothes.
"I'm guessing the nurses put this on me?" Ami asked, pointing at her gown. Backdraft nodded in response. She nodded back in acceptance, wondering where her hero costume went. She closed her eyes and shrugged, thinking of the past. What happened? How did she get here? She flinched slightly in remembrance, hearing sounds in her head. She frowned and squirmed under the covers, suddenly feeling very uncomfortable. The Nomu's roars echoed through her head. Memories flashed before her eyes. She was struggling for air as she drowned in the Water Area. She saw a glimpse of the lobby, spraying alcohol on Imiter's wound. His cries caused her to shiver. Her memory jumped forward, recalling the studio floor. She whistled and shot a fireball towards the monster's eyes like an arrow. The sound of a tailblade clacking on the floor, made her clench her teeth.
Clack. Clack. Clack.
Her memory skipped forwards, placing her in the Hero Area. She rode atop the Nomu's back, holding on to her whip around it's neck. Her own words echoed through her mind.
"Spark Plug! Your quirk! You have to use it!" Ami shouted, causing her to raise her eyes wide open in the present. She raised her chest off the bed, surprising Backdraft with her speed. She panted and looked at Backdraft in a cold sweat, opening her mouth in fear.
"Hayato!" Ami exclaimed, looking at Backdraft with worry. Her face went pale and her vision darkened a bit, feeling suddenly weak. She got up too quickly, causing her to immediately fall back in bed. She winced as the cramp in her flame organ returned, making her grit her teeth in anguish. Backdraft was taken aback by her actions, cringing at the pain she was going through.
Ami stared back up at the ceiling, frowning as she gritted her teeth. She ignored the pain from her flame organ as thoughts circled around her head. She tilted her head and looked at Backdraft in distress, making eye contact.
"B-backdraft, where's Hayato? I-Is he okay?" Ami asked, feeling fear for his safety overtake her own. She couldn't remember anything after getting electrified. She needed to know if Hayato was okay. Backdraft looked at the concern on her face and immediately responded.
"Hayato's fine, Midoriya. Take a deep breath. Everything's okay." Backdraft assured, causing Ami to gulp. She heard his words and nodded, staring at the ceiling with tears in her eyes. She sniffled and calmed down, taking a deep breath.
"Hayato's fine." Ami thought, repeating Backdraft's words. She felt a huge weight leap off her shoulders as she closed her eyes in relief, feeling tears stream down the side of her face.
"He's okay. The Nomu didn't take him…" Ami thought, crying softly in bed. Backdraft looked at her reaction and frowned, placing his wrist pipe back on her left shoulder in sympathy. Ami felt his wrist on her shoulder and placed her left hand on his wrist pipe as she let out more tears, feeling a massive amount of relief. Hayato was safe. She opened her eyes after a minute passed, sniffling a bit and looking at Backdraft.
"Where is he?" Ami asked, seeing a smile appear on Backdraft's face. He was hoping she would ask. He wanted to cheer her up as quickly as possible.
"He's here in this building." Backdraft stated, chuckling a bit, "He's been worried sick about you ever since you got here." He said, confusing Ami.
"Since?" Ami thought, raising her eyes questionably.
"Since?" Ami questioned, catching Backdraft's attention with a frown, "How long have I been here?" Ami asked, gulping nervously. Backdraft lowered his eye and frowned, taking a deep breath.
"You've been asleep in here for two days." Backdraft answered, revealing the truth about her stay. Ami froze at the answer, gasping silently in shock. Now it all made sense. Her difficulty speaking, the exhaustion she felt, and the weak feeling she had from lack of movement. She was in bed for two days. She recalled her last memory, flinching at the phantom pain of electricity flowing through her body.
"Two days?" Ami thought, wondering what happened during those two days.
"Mhm…" Backdraft confirmed, watching Ami experience a whirlpool of different emotions. He could tell she had several thoughts going through her head.
"Do you remember anything?" Backdraft asked, causing Ami to pause. She looked at Backdraft with lowered eyes, remembering what she told Hayato to do.
"Spark Plug! Your quirk! You have to use it!" Ami shouted, echoing through her mind. That was the last thing she remembered before the electrocution, causing her to frown.
"Oh, Hayato…I made you use your quirk…" Ami thought, mentally punching herself for her actions. She was full of regret as she looked at Backdraft with sadness. She clenched her fists and sniffled, unable to stop crying.
"I'm sorry, Backdraft. I-I messed up. I-I told Hayato to use his quirk. I put him in danger. I'm so sorry." She frowned, covering her eyes with her hands. She couldn't bear to see Backdraft's disappointed face, expecting to hear scolding.
"He's just a kid…and I risked his life just to stop that monster…What kind of a hero am I?" Ami cried, feeling tremendous guilt over her actions. Backdraft took in her words of regret and flared his nostrils, frowning with sympathy.
"Oh, Ami." Backdraft whispered, keeping his wrist pipe on her shoulder, "I already know what happened. Hayato told us everything." He explained, causing Ami to look at him with sad eyes.
"You kept him safe from the Nomu. He's here because of you. As far as I'm concerned, that's all that matters. You did the right thing, Ami. I'm so proud of you." Backdraft said, with complete honesty.
Ami heard his words and blinked, feeling her emotions swell. She sniffled and weakly raised her lips, struggling to smile. She looked at Backdraft and started to cry again. Before she could think, she lunged forward and hugged him, surprising Backdraft.
She leaned her head forward and cried into his chest, holding on tightly. Backdraft stared down at her and felt his chest get wet from her tears. He frowned and shrugged, letting it happen. Ami held on to him with eyes closed, ignoring the small amount of pain still residing in her flame organ. The praise from her favorite hero was all the push she needed to persevere through the pain.
After another minute had passed, she pulled away from him and apologized for getting his costume wet. The apology made the water hero laugh, which made her laugh after realizing how silly it was. She laid back in bed and stared at Backdraft as he returned to his seat. She frowned a bit as the past went through her mind, causing her to change focus from Hayato's safety to the others.
"What about Mr. Imiter? And Nashorn?" Ami asked, receiving a smile from Backdraft.
"Nashorn is recovering in a larger room. And Imiter woke up from his wounds yesterday. They're alive." Backdraft explained, bringing immediate relief to Ami's conscience.
"That's good." She said, looking at her blanket with a grateful smile.
"Actually, the nurses wanted to thank you." Backdraft mentioned, causing Ami to raise an eyebrow at him in confusion, "They were impressed with what you did when you found him. If you hadn't tied your poncho around his stomach and disinfected his shoulder, he might've died. He's alive because of you." Backdraft said, cheering Ami up.
"I saved his life?" She questioned, sniffling a bit. Backdraft nodded in confirmation, making her smile lightly in relief. She was happy to learn no one had died from the Nomu's attack.
"But, Midoriya…You don't remember anything after Hayato used his quirk, do you?" He asked, causing Ami to pause. She stared blankly at the bed sheets, trying and failing to remember.
"I don't. I remember flashes, really. I hit the floor. Then the pain stopped and everything went dark." Ami answered, truthfully.
"What happened to me?" She asked, causing Backdraft to hesitate for a second. He considered not telling her anything right now, but he knew she'd learn eventually.
"You…almost died." He stated, sending a chill down Ami's spine.
"What?" She questioned, feeling her mouth drop slightly.
"Your heart stopped beating three minutes after the electrocution." Backdraft clarified, making Ami tremble in bed. She gulped and placed a hand over her chest, listening to her own heart beat.
"My heart stopped?" Ami thought, wondering what happened after her heart stopped beating.
"What happened to me? How am I still alive? Who saved me?" She questioned.
"Wyvern found you. He tried performing CPR on you, but it didn't work. He almost thought you were done for, had it not been for Hayato." Backdraft answered, confusing Ami. She reared her head back in confusion, raising her eyes questionably.
"Hayato? What do you mean, Hayato?" Ami asked, blinking rapidly.
"He used his quirk to revive you. And…it worked." Backdraft revealed, causing Ami to gasp.
"What? How?" She asked. Backdraft cleared his throat and started to explain Hayato's condition.
1 Day after the Hosu Incident
Backdraft stared at the dimly-lit screen slack jawed. Wyvern stared at the screen with his hand on his chin and eyes raised.
Fuego also stared at the screen on Wyvern's shoulder. The three of them couldn't believe what they were seeing on the screen. On the screen, Hayato's x-rays appeared. Wyvern had already been informed of what he was seeing by the doctors. He examined the picture of Hayato's brain with a nod in understanding.
"There it is." Wyvern said, pointing at the screen with his finger. He placed his finger on a very specific part of Hayato's brain. Just above the tip of his nail was the anomaly in his brain. Backdraft stared at the anomaly with scrutinizing eyes.
"What is that?" Backdraft questioned, not understanding what that object was in Hayato's brain scan.
"The source of all his problems." Wyvern answered.
"Is that a-" Backdraft asked, raising his eye with realization.
"Mhm. A tumor." Wyvern said, finishing his sentence.
Does that mean he has-"
"No. It's benign." He clarified before Backdraft could worry.
"That part of the brain. Isn't that related to quirk activation?" Backdraft asked, receiving a nod from the stoic hero.
"I didn't know a tumor could form there. How did the doctors miss it?" Backdraft questioned.
"Cuz they didn't see it." Wyvern stated, swiping the screen with his finger. The screen changed to a previous date.
"This is a scan of his brain from his last visit." Wyvern pointed out, placing his finger on the location of the tumor.
"Take a look at that area on this scan." Wyvern said. Backdraft looked at the screen in confusion, seeing nothing there.
"It's not there!" Backdraft said, looking at the scan in shock, "How's that possible?" He asked, glancing at Wyvern. Wyvern shook his head in response, swiping the screen again. Both scans appeared on the screen simultaneously.
"Oh, but it is. It's been there this entire time. Just hidden." Wyvern explained.
"Hidden, how?" Backdraft asked, incredulously.
"Trauma. Those stress tests the doctors did never reached high enough to trick his brain into believing he was dying. All the stress from that night caused the tumor to loosen up, lifting pressure off his Quirk Factor." Wyvern explained, getting a nod from Backdraft. He was beginning to understand what allowed Hayato's quirk to work that night.
"And with all that pressure off his Quirk Factor, he was able to use his quirk normally." Backdraft surmised, receiving a nod from Wyvern.
"Mhm."
Present
Ami listened to Backdraft's full explanation and nodded in understanding. She furrowed her brow and looked at Backdraft with a questionable stare.
"Hayato's quirk was messing up because of a tumor?" Ami questioned, receiving a nod.
"I was surprised, too. it's extremely rare, but it happens." Backdraft answered.
"Is it removable?" She asked, making Backdraft smile.
"Mhm. His operation is today." Backdraft said, making Ami smile. She stared at her bed and lifted herself up, feeling the pain lessen. She narrowed her eyes and placed a hand on the skin above her flame organ, rubbing it gently.
"It doesn't hurt as much." Ami thought, looking back up at Backdraft. She removed her bed sheets and stared at her gown. She was fully covered, but she leaned forward and cranked her neck to the side, checking to see if her back was exposed. It wasn't. An embarrassing moment averted, she looked at Backdraft with curiosity.
"Can I see?" Ami asked.
Operating Room Observation Balcony
Wyvern watched from the third row to the top, staring down at the operating room with both hands on his chin. Three people sat in the bottom row, leaning close to the glass as the doctors worked. Inside the operating room, the doctor held a scalpel in his hand. He wore a surgical mask and leaned his head forward, staring down at Hayato's head.
"I am removing the tumor now." The doctor said, causing everyone in the observation room to hold their breath. The doctor took a deep breath and went to work, placing his scalpel on Hayato. His fingers fidgeted with the scalper, causing him to focus. He steadied his hands and continued operating.
Everyone in the observation room was completely silent as the operation went on for a couple minutes. Eventually, the doctor stayed calm and made the incision. He sliced at the tumor and grabbed it with a scalpel, quickly pulling out of his brain.
"Got it. Close him up." The doctor ordered, making everyone in the room sigh in relief. Wyvern closed his eyes and exhaled, cracking a smile at the successful surgery. He opened his eyes and sniffled, holding in a happy tear. The three people in the front row smiled and started hugging each other in relief. Wyvern stared at them and kept his smile, hearing a calm growl from Fuego.
"Tatsu." Fuego said, getting Wyvern's attention. He looked at his shoulder and saw Fuego sticking his head out of his extra fabric. He was facing the opposite way, staring up at the door. Wyvern quickly swerved to the right, looking up at the door. Leaning on the door, Ami looked inside the operating room with relief, watching the doctors stitch Hayato's head. She glanced down at the third row and made eye contact with Wyvern, forcing a weak smile on her face.
Wyvern stood up out of his seat with raised eyes. He stared at Ami with surprise, completely shocked to see her standing.
"Ames…You're awake." Wyvern said, getting everyone in the observation room's attention.
"Hey." Ami waved, leaning on the door. She already felt dead tired. She stared at the three people in the front row and recognized one of them.
"Miss Midoriya." Thane said, looking at Ami with wide eyes. The man and woman beside him made eye contact with Ami, getting her attention. They exited the front row and approached Ami with curious faces.
"Is this her?" The Woman asked, looking at Wyvern. Wyvern nodded in confirmation, making her smile.
"Uhm, hi." Ami said, looking at the woman. She was blonde and dressed very fancily. The same applied to the man approaching behind her. He was a darker blonde with an expensive business suit on. Thane approached behind them and quickly cleared his throat for attention.
"Ami, I'd like you to meet Mr. And Mrs. Ishida." Thane introduced. Ami stared at the Ishida's with a tired smile. Mrs. Ishida quickly hugged her, catching Ami off guard. She blinked a couple times in confusion and let it happen. She didn't have much strength to resist.
"Thank you so much." She choked, letting the tears flow.
"Thank you for keeping our boy safe." Mr. Ishida said, holding on to his wife. Ami looked at the tearful mother with an awkward smile, feeling a lot weaker.
"You're welcome, ma'am." Ami said, weakly. She let go of Ami and noticed how tired she was, getting worried. Wyvern approached the group and stared at Ami with concern.
"When did you wake up?" He asked, making eye contact.
"A few minutes ago." She answered, lowering her eyes a bit. Wyvern went stoic and could tell she was drained, causing him to look at Hayato's parents.
"Hey, why don't you guys head back to the lobby. I think she's pretty tired still." Wyvern suggested, receiving a nod from the parents. They quickly left the room with smiles. Thane walked out last and bowed respectfully at Ami and Wyvern.
"Get well soon, Miss Midoriya." Thane said, politely. Ami nodded in response with a weak smile, watching the butler leave the room.
Room #1
A nurse entered the room with a lunch cart. Ami had returned to bed with Wyvern sitting in the chair left unoccupied from Backdraft. He left the Museum to oversee some arrangements while Ami recovered.
"Here's today's lunch, miss." A nurse said, placing a lunch tray on a small table on her bed. Ami smelled the food and felt her stomach growl, smiling with hunger. She glanced at the nurse and smiled, nodding her head in thanks.
"Thank you so much." Ami said, holding the sandwich in her hands. She looked at the sandwich and felt her mouth water, almost taking a bite from it immediately. She stopped however when she saw Wyvern in her vision, who was sitting stoically in his chair. She glanced at the nurse with a questionable expression.
"...There's nothing in it, right?" She asked, surprising the nurse for a couple seconds. She stared at Ami with a puzzled face before figuring it out once she noticed Wyvern in the room. She smirked and let out a small giggle.
"Oh, don't worry. We made it." The nurse said, looking at Wyvern with a deadpan stare. Ami sighed in relief and took a bite out of the sandwich, savoring the taste. The nurse turned to Wyvern and handed him a bag, smiling mischievously.
"Here's the pretzels you asked for, Mr. Taylor. Enjoy." The nurse smirked, causing Wyvern to pause. He took the bag and ripped it open as he looked at the nurse with narrowed eyes. She quickly exited the room before she could hear it from Wyvern.
"Yeah, thanks." He scoffed, sticking his hand in the bag. Ami heard the nurse refer to him as Mr. Taylor and stared at Wyvern with a confused expression.
"Mr. Taylor?" Ami questioned, getting Wyvern's attention. He looked at Ami and stopped eating.
"Hmph. Right." Wyvern huffed, scratching the back of his neck in realization, "I never gave you my real name, didn't I?" He asked, receiving a response.
"...No." Ami said, lowering her eyes slightly, "Though, I never actually asked…" She thought, realizing she never asked Backdraft for his name, either. Wyvern nodded and placed his pretzel bag between his legs, leaning forward with hands clasped.
"Alright. My name's Tatsuichiro Taylor." Wyvern explained, resuming eating.
"Tatsuichiro…Taylor?" Ami repeated, thrown off by the last name.
"Yeah. You're probably confused by the last name, aren't you?" He said, receiving a nod.
"A little." Ami replied, being honest. Wyvern smirked at her reply.
"Yeah, I thought so. In short, my dad's from America. Well, my grandfather was…" Wyvern said, correcting himself.
"My grandparents moved to Okinawa when my dad was a kid. That's where he grew up, became a hero, and met my mom." Wyvern explained, surprising Ami even more.
"Your dad was a hero?" She asked.
"Yeah, but that's a longer story." Wyvern nodded, changing subject.
"That's cool." She stated, taking another bite out of her sandwich. Wyvern nodded in agreement, grinning slightly in amusement.
"Anyways, enough about me." Wyvern said, dropping his grin. He continued to lean forward, looking at the floor in silence. Ami looked at his serious expression and stopped eating.
"So, did Backdraft tell you about Sparky?" He asked, looking up at Ami. Ami looked back at him and frowned, nodding her head in confirmation.
"Mhm." She answered, remembering a glimpse of the operation she saw.
"That operation was about the tumor in his brain. His quirk. It's going to work now, right?" Ami asked, hoping it would be true.
"It should, but we'll find out whenever they wake him up." Wyvern answered, truthfully. The surgery was a simple one, but it should be enough to make his quirk work correctly.
"What else did he tell you?" He asked, returning to the subject. Ami heard the question and continued to frown, remembering Backdraft's words with worry.
"He said you tried CPR on me, but it didn't work… Was I really dead?" Ami questioned, gulping in fear. Wyvern lowered his stoic eyes, visibly frowning as he leaned back into his seat. He should've mentally prepared for that heavy question.
"Almost…." He stated, sighing, "Thane was there, too. He arrived the same time I did. We ran to the Hero Area and saw you on the floor with Sparky. He was trying to wake you up, but you wouldn't move. When I got over there, I listened to your heart and…heard nothing." Wyvern said, hesitating at the last words. Ami listened to his story and gulped, feeling happy to be alive.
"Backdraft wasn't with you?" She asked, getting a look from Wyvern.
"He arrived afterwards along with a whole army of heroes and first responders." Wyvern explained, wondering just how much Ami was told.
"Backdraft only told you about what happened to you and Hayato, did he?" Wyvern questioned, receiving a nod from Ami. She narrowed her eyes and thought about that night, remembering the Nomu. She raised her eyes and gasped, looking at Wyvern.
"The Nomu! What happened to it?" Ami asked, hoping it didn't escape. Wyvern looked at Ami's concerned face and shook his head.
"It's dead, Ami." He said, being intentionally vague. Honestly, he didn't know how it happened, either. He thought about the immediate aftermath and remembered Hayato's words.
"It saved us!" Hayato said, crying softly.
"What?" Wyvern questioned, looking at Hayato in confusion.
"The monster. I-It saved us. A piece broke off the second floor. I-It fell t-towards me and…It j-jumped over us and…protected us." Hayato said, doing his best to describe what happened.
"It looked at me a-after. It was crying. Like it was sad. Even though it t-tried to grab me. Why? Why would it do that?" Hayato asked, putting his hands over his face as he tried to process everything he saw. Wyvern looked at Hayato with sympathy, placing a hand on his shoulder. He listened to everything Hayato had to say about the Nomu in disbelief. He couldn't believe what he had heard. That monster. That thing. It killed itself just to save Ami and Hayato. But why? Did it suddenly grow a conscience? He snapped back to reality and frowned, not sure how to explain that to her. He shrugged his shoulders and sighed, opting not to say anything.
"The body's already been moved out of the building. It won't be coming back." Wyvern answered, receiving a nod from Ami.
"That's a relief." Ami admitted, thinking about her thoughts leading up to the electrocution.
"So, it worked. The Nomu's body couldn't handle the damage to its quirk factor." Ami thought, feeling a small bit of satisfaction knowing her plan had worked. She placed her hand on the skin above her flame organ, feeling no pain from the touch. She stopped rubbing it and remembered what she did.
"My quirk activated…" She said, frowning, "But, instead of flames, it was plasma." She said, receiving a nod from Wyvern. He remembered the beam of light bursting through the Museum's roof, remaining stoic.
"Yeah, Sparky jump-started your quirk. It made you use that plasma beam." Wyvern explained.
"And tore a hole through the Hero Area…I ruined the building." Ami frowned, feeling an intense amount of guilt.
"Don't worry about it, Ames. The Hero Area's being taken care of." Wyvern said, lessening Ami's guilt.
"What about the other Nomu's in the city? What happened?" Ami asked, causing Wyvern to raise his eyes. He kept a stoic face and told her everything about the three Nomu. He described their looks, their quirks, and the damage they did to the city. Ami felt sick when she learned about the injuries caused by the attacks, causing her to clench her fists in sympathy. Wyvern kept stoic as he reached the part of the story featuring Endeavor. Ami listened to Wyvern with wide eyes, not expecting to hear Endeavor was in the city during the attacks.
"Endeavor was in Hosu? Wait. Does that mean Shoto was in Hosu, too?" Ami thought, thinking about Todoroki.
"Then, he told us to head to Ekou Street. We didn't understand what was going on there at the time, but…" Wyvern said, starting to hesitate, "By the time we got there. The fight was already over." He finished, causing Ami to raise an eyebrow.
"Fight? What fight?" Ami asked, making Wyvern nod. He took a deep breath and shrugged.
"The Hero Killer was defeated and captured." Wyvern admitted, causing Ami to raise her eyes.
"Really? By who?" Ami asked, causing Wyvern to lower his eyes.
"..." He said nothing, causing Ami to frown. She narrowed her eyes in confusion, wondering why he was silent all of a sudden.
"Who?" She asked, feeling her stomach churn.
"Your friend in armor." Wyvern said, causing Ami's mouth to drop. She quietly gasped, feeling her eyes shrink with realization.
"Iida?" Ami asked, receiving a nod from Wyvern. She frowned and shook her head, rubbing her forehead.
"Iida found the Hero Killer? And, he captured him? Did he even call for help like I said?" She thought, creating a list of questions.
"He wasn't alone. Endeavor's kid was there, too." Wyvern said, scooting around revealing the whole truth.
"Todoroki was there?" Ami questioned, "So, he was in Hosu with Endeavor…" She thought, surprised to find that out.
"Are they okay?" Ami asked, making Wyvern close his eyes.
"I'm not finished yet." He said, stoically. Ami looked at him and wondered what else he could say about the Hero Killer encounter, feeling anxious.
"What is it?" She asked, hoping no one was dead. She held in her breath as Wyvern opened his mouth.
"Your brother was there, too…" Wyvern explained, causing Ami to freeze.
"What?" She gasped, feeling like the air vanished from her lungs. Her brain tried to process the information as best she could.
"Izzy was in Hosu? And he fought the Hero Killer?" She thought, dropping her eyes. She gripped her bed sheets and squeezed them tightly, feeling distressed. Flashes of blood and death appeared in her mind, making her panic.
"What happened?" She asked, hoping that Izuku was safe.
Knock Knock Knock
"Come in." Wyvern hollered, causing the door to open. Backdraft peeked inside, making eye contact with Ami. He noticed the tears in her eyes and raised his eyebrow with worry.
"Backdraft…" Ami whimpered. Backdraft looked at her and coughed, covering his mouth.
"Hey, Midoriya. I hope you don't mind, but…I brought some guests." Backdraft said, propping the door open. Two familiar faces stepped inside, causing Ami to raise her head up.
"Izuku." She squeaked, making eye contact with her brother. Izuku looked at Ami with a tearful smile.
"Ami." He said, sniffling a bit. He quickly rushed to her side, feeling both sad and happy. Izuku quickly wrapped his arms around her while Ami did the same. The twins hugged each other for what seemed like eternity. They were happy to see each other again after what they had gone through. They rested their faces on each other's shoulders and continued to cry.
"Ami…You're awake." Izuku whispered, squeezing Ami. Ami squeezed back and smiled.
"Yeah." She said, sniffling while nodding.
"I'm so glad you're okay." He said, causing Ami to start sobbing. Seeing her brother caused all of the emotions she kept inside to come right out. She was happy to finally see him again. She remembered what Wyvern told her about the fight with the Hero Killer and frowned, squeezing Izuku even tighter.
"I'm so glad you're okay. I thought that you weren't here in Hosu." Ami asked, sobbing in between words.
"I wasn't supposed to be… A Nomu showed up and attacked our train heading to Shinjuku. I jumped out and went to help." Izuku said, explaining his side of the story. He squeezed Ami even tighter and started to apologize.
"Ami, I'm so sorry. I tried to call you, but I didn't get an answer. I had no idea what was happening in the Museum or even how to reach you. Then everything happened so fast and I-" Izuku stuttered, getting interrupted by Ami.
"It's okay. You're here now, Izzy." Ami said, controlling her sobbing. She kept her eyes closed and composed herself, feeling at peace.
"Ami. I'm glad to see you're awake." Iida said, making his presence known. Ami opened her eyes and peered behind Izuku's shoulder, seeing Iida standing at the door with a frown.
"..." Ami said, letting go of Izuku in silence. Izuku looked at Ami in surprise, noticing the glare in her tear-stricken eyes.
"Iida…" Ami whispered, looking at him with her eyes covered in shadow. The angry tone in her voice made Iida feel nervous, causing him to get goosebumps. She clenched her fists in anger, doing her best to hold in her feelings. She had a lot of words flashing through her mind right now. Backdraft and Wyvern could sense the awkwardness of this entire situation and knew they didn't need to be here right now. They glanced at each other and nodded.
"We'll let you guys sort this out." Wyvern said, standing up out of his chair. He headed for the door with Backdraft following, closing the door and leaving the student's alone. Ami looked at her fists and remembered their conversation on the train.
"...If you're going to stop me, try to convince me to back down, then don't bother. I want justice." Iida said.
"It's alright. I wasn't going to." Ami said.
"I figured by now there'd be no going back. We're already heading to Hosu. I don't blame you for wanting revenge. I can relate to a certain degree about your feelings. If anything were to happen to Izuku, I don't know what I would do...I just know that I'd want the same thing that you do. Even if everyone tells me it's a bad idea." Ami said, explaining her reasoning.
"Iida…You idiot…" Ami thought out loud, between the memories of the past. Iida heard the insult and flinched, staring at the floor in shame.
"Just because I'm keeping this between us doesn't mean you're off the hook. If you find him….Think about us, think about your family, think about Ingenium. Don't fight him alone, I'm begging you. The moment you find him, you call for help. Get everyone after him, understand? I don't want to see your face on the news, okay?" Ami said, feeling her voice crack a little. She returned to the present and sniffled, feeling hurt and betrayed.
"How could you…Didn't you listen to my advice?" Ami asked, making Iida grit his teeth in silence. He continued to stare at the floor in silence, letting Ami speak. He had no excuse to defend himself with.
"You ignored me. Not only that, you put my brother in danger…Even though I told you…" Ami whimpered, making Izuku frown. Iida kept his head down and listened to her words, understanding what she was talking about. He remembered her words about wanting revenge if something were to happen to Izuku. That's what he had done.
"Ami…" Izuku whispered, understanding her reaction.
"I don't want to see your face on the news, okay?" Ami's own words repeated in her head. She listened to her words and thought about them with terror.
"If things had turned out differently…" she thought, imagining Iida's face on the news.
"There would have been three faces on the news." Ami thought, imagining Izuku, Iida, and Todoroki's face on the news. The headline talked about the fight with three students left dead. She shook her head, forcing the morbid thought out of her mind.
"Iida…" Ami said, clenching her fists.
"Ami, wait. It's okay. Please don't be mad at Iida. It's not his fault." Izuku said, stepping up. He placed a hand on her shoulder, getting her attention. She looked at him with a questionable glare, seeing the frown on his face.
"Izzy, you could have died." She whimpered, feeling her heart racing.
"I know. But I couldn't just stand by and do nothing. I went looking for Iida on my own. I sent my location to everyone on my phone and stepped in. I put myself in danger. It was me! Iida didn't even want my help." Izuku said, defending Iida. Ami listened to Izuku's explanation of events and questioned his decisions. Iida was about to die by the Hero Killer, but Izuku had saved him in time.
"You had no idea where Iida was, yet you still managed to find him." Ami thought, listening to Izuku's retelling. She sniffled and thought about the way he acted, remembering what All Might had said to him during the Sports Festival.
"But, listen. Meddling where you don't technically have to, is the essence of being a hero." All Might said.
"Oh, Izuku." Ami thought, letting more tears fall down her face. She knew exactly what kind of person Izuku was. He wouldn't stand by and do nothing. He would always act no matter how dangerous the situation was. She understood that, she was his sister after all.
"Ami. I'm sorry." Iida apologized, getting her attention.
"I…I failed you. I found the Hero Killer during the attacks. I thought about what you said, believe me. But, I let my rage take over. Then, I watched him raise his sword to kill Native and…I stopped thinking." Iida explained, dropping to the floor with his head down in apology.
"I couldn't keep the promise I made to you. Even worse, I got your brother involved. And Todoroki, too." Iida said, holding in his tears.
"I was about to die, but Midoriya saved me. Then Todoroki showed up. I told them to run, but they didn't listen. If not for them, I'd be dead already." Iida said, clenching his fists in shame.
"Please, forgive me." He pleaded, closing his eyes and feeling tears falll down his face. Ami stared at Iida on the floor with her glare up. She frowned and lowered her eyes, unclenching her fists. She thought about what Izuku said and Iida's apology and took a deep breath.
"Iida…I forgive you." She said, causing Iida to raise his head up.
"But…you could've died. Even though I warned you. But, if you didn't act, Native would've died, too." Ami said, thinking about it more.
"I can't really be mad at you for that." Ami admitted, sniffling a bit. She looked at Iida and narrowed her eyes, looking dead serious, "But don't do it again." She said, receiving a nod from Iida. He stood back up and bowed his head in response.
"I will, Ami. This time. I won't let it happen again." Iida said, promising not to mess up again. Ami said nothing, choosing to believe he would follow through.
"I hope so, Iida." Ami thought, hearing the door open suddenly.
"Are the wetworks over?" Gran Torino asked, solemnly. He opened the door with his cane and walked right in, surprising Ami and Iida. Izuku turned towards the door and straightened up.
"Huh?" Ami said, looking at the short old man in confusion.
"Ah, you must be Ami Midoriya. Izuku told me all about you." Gran Torino said, narrowing his eyes at the green haired girl.
"Who are you?" Ami asked in confusion.
"Ami, this is Gran Torino." Izuku introduced, whispering to her ear.
"What?" She whispered, looking wide eyed at Izuku.
"This is Gran Torino? This is the guy that All Might was afraid of?" Ami thought, remembering how much All Might was shaking at the mere mention of his name.
"He's a lot shorter than I expected." Ami thought, getting a good look at his costume. She looked at the door and went straight faced. She started to wonder about if Todoroki was here.
"Is Todoroki here?" Ami asked, receiving an answer.
"Endeavor already returned to his Agency." Gran Torino explained, making Ami nod in understanding.
"I'm sure you're aware of hero law?" He asked, causing Ami to pause.
"Yes." She replied.
"There are certain ramifications we need to go over now that you're awake. What I'm about to tell you comes directly from Hosu's Chief of Police." Gran Torino explained, relaying his message to Ami.
"Gran Torino told me everything the Police Chief had said to Izuku, Iida, and Todoroki. They weren't in any trouble. The Fight with Stain was covered up. Endeavor took the spotlight away from them, so that their careers as heroes would remain undamaged." Ami narrated.
"My fight was also covered up. Although, I still had it easy. The cover story was that Nashorn fought with the Nomu throughout the building while Imiter reactivated the Zeropointer. Hayato and I were never in any danger and were constantly protected by them. Even though my plasma beam was captured by multiple security cameras throughout the city as well as news choppers. That was quickly explained away as a laser attack produced by the Zeropointer. My status was never revealed to the public. No one knew I was unconscious for two days. Not even our mom. Since the Nomu knocked out power throughout the whole building, it meant they could come up with whatever version of events they wanted without any contradiction. In short, the public would never know what happened to me that night." Ami narrated.
"Huh? Wait, so, I'm not being punished?" Ami asked, receiving a nod.
"You're off the hook, kid. It's already been publicized on the news. Same goes for your brother and his classmates." Gran Torino explained.
"I see. Thank you, Sir." Ami said, respectfully bowing her head. She finished her lunch and stared at everyone in the room in silence.
"Are you gonna be okay, Ami?" Izuku asked, receiving a nod from her.
"I'll be fine." Ami said, looking at her clothes, "But, I'd like to leave now." She said. With that said, everyone exited the room. Ami was left alone and looked inside the cabinets for clothes. Her hero costume wasn't in there, but there was clothes she recognized from the gift shop. They were all in her size, too. She grabbed an outfit and changed, slipping into the new pair of clothes. She felt a lot better afterwards. She took a deep breath in front of the door, feeling refreshed. Eating a meal after two days never felt so good. She stared at the door and smiled, ready to leave this room.
The Hallway
Ami opened the door and stepped outside her room, entering a hallway. She was happy that she could stand more easily. No cane or assistance needed. She took a deep breath and walked, passing by Room #2. She wondered if Imiter was still in the room. The door was closed so she was unable to look inside. Reaching the waiting room, she spotted Backdraft and Wyvern waiting for her. She made eye contact with them and smiled, happy to see them. She then heard footsteps running towards her, getting her attention.
"Ami!" Hayato shouted, causing Ami to turn around. She made eye contact with Hayato and smiled, watching him spread his arms out.
Ami grinned and bended her knees, falling to the floor with happiness. Hayato slammed right into her, hugging her tightly. Ami hugged him back and closed her eyes in relief. Hayato closed his eyes and sniffled, holding in his tears.
"Ami. You're alive." Hayato said, making Ami giggle.
"Of course I am. All because of you, Spark Plug." She smirked, rubbing his hair with her hand.
"Yeah…" He sniffled, wiping tears out of his eyes, "I thought I killed you." He frowned, continuing to sniffle. Ami frowned and lowered her eyes in sympathy. She sighed and kept him close, making him feel better.
"You could never hurt me." She assured, hugging him tightly. Hayato smiled at her words, feeling like they were true.
"Ami, my parents are here! Can you believe that?" Hayato said, jumping up and down in excitement. Ami giggled at him and nodded.
"I know." She laughed, peering behind Hayato's shoulder. Standing a couple feet away was Hayato's parents along with Thane. She raised her hand up and waved at them with a smile.
"Hi again." She said, causing Hayato to crank his head to the right. He could see the smile on his mom's face in his peripheral vision.
"Hayato begged us to see you as soon as he woke up." Mrs. Ishida said, appearing grateful. Ami flared her nostrils in amusement, smiling even wider. Hayato wanted to see her after his surgery. She was the first person he thought of, making her feel confident.
"Miss Midoriya." Mr. Ishida said, stepping forward. Hayato looked at his father and stepped out of the way with a smile, watching as he extended his hand out towards Ami. Ami looked at his hand and grabbed it, letting him shake her hand.
"We can't thank you enough for what you did." He said, shaking her hand profusely.
"It was no problem. I would've done it again in a heartbeat." Ami replied, shaking his hand.
"No, really. We can't thank you enough. My wife and I run a hero support company together. If UA ever needs anything for your hero costume, then we'll happily provide." Mr. Ishida said, making Ami gasp.
"Wow. Thank you." Ami said, bowing her head in respect.
"It's the least we could do." Mrs. Ishida said, sniffling a bit.
"Ami, look. My Hero Costume is fixed. See!" Hayato exclaimed, spinning around and showing off.
"Wow! That's great." Ami exclaimed, clapping at the display. Thane smirked at Ami, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. He stepped forward and bowed, adjusting his tie.
"Mhm. I worked all night to fix it. It looks brand new now, wouldn't you agree?" Thane questioned, smirking in the air.
"That's great." Ami said.
"My apologies, though, for your hero costume, Miss Midoriya." Thane frowned, coughing slightly in sympathy.
"My costume?" Ami questioned, raising her eyes, "What happened to my costume?" She asked.
"It was shipped back to UA." Backdraft said, approaching the group. He tipped his hat at Hayato's parents in respect.
"Hello, my name is Backdraft. Ami is interning with me." Backdraft said, introducing himself.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Mr. Ishida said, fist bumping Backdraft's wrist pipe. Hayato smiled at the group and noticed others in the waiting room, seeing two young faces that he thought looked familiar. Especially the plain looking green haired teen.
"Who are they?" Hayato asked, looking at Ami.
"Hm?" She questioned, looking at Hayato. He motioned his eyes towards the waiting room, prompting Ami to take a look.
"Oh!" She exclaimed, realizing it was her brother and Iida.
"Hayato, this is my brother, Izuku Midoriya. And this is our friend, Iida." Ami introduced, causing them to smile at the young child.
"Hi." Izuku said, waving at him.
"Hello there." Iida smiled.
"Hello..." Hayato said, feeling shy around new people.
"And this is Hayato's parents." Ami introduced, receiving nods from the couple. Izuku and Iida stepped forward, intermingling with the group. Izuku shook hands with the Ishida's and noticed Thane, wondering who he was in relation to Hayato's family.
"Oh, hello. You must be Hayato's grandfather, right?" Izuku asked, innocently.
"Erk!" Thane grunted, feeling his eyes pop out. He coughed and composed himself, turning to look at the young man in his view.
"Ah, yes, you must be the bone-breaking brother from the Sports Festival." Thane said, bowing his head at Izuku. Izuku was caught off guard by the response. He took notice of his formality, getting reminded of Iida. Ami heard what Izuku said and snickered, standing up. She stood next to him and put a hand on his shoulder, getting his attention.
"Uhm, actually, Izzy…" Ami said, lowering her voice. She covered her mouth towards his direction and whispered.
"That's their butler." She said, motioning towards Hayato's parents.
"Oh." Izuku nodded in understanding, taking a second to realize.
"Wait. Holy crap, a butler! These guys must be super rich!" Izuku thought, raising his eyes wide open.
"Hayato, you're not wearing gloves." Ami said, looking at Hayato's bare hands.
"Oh, right. Hehe. Look!" Hayato exclaimed. He raised his hands up to his front and activated his quirk with a proud smile.
Sparks of electricity flew out of his fingertips, reaching an inch into the air.
"Wow!" Izuku exclaimed, looking at Hayato's hands.
"My quirk works! I can turn it off-and-on again." Hayato exclaimed, jumping up in the air.
"That's amazing, Hayato." Ami smiled.
"Well done, Sparky." Wyvern said, giving him a thumbs up.
"See, Hayato, what'd I tell ya. I told you they'd work again." Ami said, reminding Hayato of their past conversation.
"Hehe. Yup." He laughed, looking at a nearby snack machine. He felt a lightbulb activate in his head, giving him an idea.
"Check it out." Hayato laughed, running up to the snack machine. The heroes raised their eyes at the happy child, quickly reacting to him.
"No! No! No!" Everyone said, including his parents and butler. Hayato touched the machine with his hands in joyful ignorance, letting the electricity surge through his fingertips. The sparks flew into the machine, forcing it to overload on accident.
Within seconds, food began to fall off the racks. The machine acted like money had entered its system, forcing it to move. They all dropped to the bottom of the machine where Hayato could easily open the bin and grab one.
His parents and Thane facepalmed, hiding their faces. The heroes stared at Hayato in silence. Wyvern stared stoically, holding in his laughter. Ami, Izuku, and Iida, stared at Hayato with mouths dropped, not knowing what else to say. Hayato's parents sighed and shook their heads.
"We'll pay for that." His parents said in unison.
Quirk Museum - Training Area - Afternoon
Ami sat at the picnic tables and relaxed, taking in the fresh air in the park. She took a deep breath and sighed in relaxation, feeling a lot better compared to before. She listened to the wind blowing from the large ceiling fans, keeping the park cool. This was the kind of relaxation she needed. It was a lot better than what she went through two days ago.
She breathed softly and laid on the bench, closing her eyes and listening to her surroundings. A couple dozen yards away, Izuku stared out at the wide open park with awe. The place was magnificent. Nowhere near the size of the USJ but it was impressive. He couldn't believe he'd never gone to this Museum before.
"Wow. This place is a lot bigger than I thought it was." Izuku stated, getting a nod from Hayato.
"Isn't it awesome?" Hayato asked, receiving a nod.
"Mhm." Izuku said.
"By the way, your hero costume is super cool!" Izuku exclaimed.
"Really?" Hayato questioned, feeling joy. Izuku nodded in confirmation, smiling widely at him.
"Ami, your brother is super awesome!" Hayato shouted, making Ami giggle. A bit further away, Wyvern stood alone. He watched Izuku and Hayato interact with each other and flared his nostrils with a light smirk.
"They look like they're getting along." Wyvern thought, hearing Fuego flare his nostrils.
"Hmph." Fuego huffed, blowing smoke through the extra fabric on Wyvern's shoulder. Wyvern continued to watch them talk from a distance, hearing a cane touch the ground beside him. He raised his eyes and glanced to his left, seeing a short old man standing next to him. Wyvern recognized him from earlier as the hero Izuku was interning with.
"So, Gran Torino, was it?" Wyvern asked, hearing silence from the old man. He lowered his eyebrows and kept his eyes on Izuku.
"Ami's brother chose to intern with you, huh? Ya know, I don't actually have any idea who you are." Wyvern admitted, rubbing the back of his head with his right hand.
"I'm sorry, Youngin. Were you saying something?" Gran Torino asked, turning to look at Wyvern with a tired old voice.
"Huh?" Wyvern said, glancing at Gran Torino with his eyes raised. The question immediately broke his stoic expression, leaving him confused. Gran Torino smiled at the red head with both hands on his cane, trembling rapidly.
"Youngin?" Fuego questioned, flaring his nostrils in confusion.
"What the hell? He looks ready to fall at any minute." Wyvern thought, hearing Fuego nod in agreement.
"This is the hero her brother picked?" Fuego questioned.
"Yeah, what was he thinking?" Wyvern thought.
"I remember you now. You turned into a dragon." Gran Torino smiled, pointing his cane at Wyvern's face. Wyvern looked at the frail looking old man and composed himself, grinning microscopically.
"Alright, Old Timer. What's your deal? You looked pretty normal when you walked by us and forced your way into Ami's room, so, don't think I forgot about that." Wyvern said, narrowing his eyes at the old man in suspicion.
"Yeah, quit the act." Fuego said, appearing on Wyvern's shoulder.
"What? My ears don't work the way they used to before." Gran Torino said, causing Wyvern to sigh.
"Tch...Nevermind." He said, shaking his head in defeat.
"Tatsu, I think this man is unstable." Fuego stated, bluntly.
"You think?" Wyvern thought.
Wyvern looked at the floor and sighed, shrugging his shoulders in defeat. He shook his head and continued to stare at Izuku and Hayato. Until suddenly, he heard the air move next to him.
Swing
Wyvern heard the cane swing forward, causing him to quickly react. He leaned back and ducked, avoiding the cane. He stepped back and gritted his teeth, shocked that he almost got smacked in the face.
"What the-" Wyvern questioned, narrowly avoiding the cane. He jumped back and looked at Gran Torino with a vein popping out of his forehead.
"Are you crazy?" He gritted, clenching his fist.
"Grrr." Fuego growled, appearing on Wyvern's shoulder.
"Hmph." Gran Torino hummed, smirking slightly. He stopped shaking and returned his cane to its previous position. Wyvern raised an eyebrow at him in silence, unclenching his fists. He composed himself and crossed his arms. Fuego remained on his shoulder, keeping guard in case of another attack.
"Good reaction speed. You're more capable than I thought." Gran Torino said, impressed by Wyvern's response time.
"Your master taught you well, Tatsuichiro Taylor." Gran Torino said, causing both Tatsu and Fuego to raise their eyebrows in confusion.
"Huh?" Wyvern blurted out. He glanced at Fuego and made eye contact, nodding at each other in agreement. He shook his head and scoffed, relaxing.
"I should've known. You know him, huh?" Wyvern asked.
"Not personally, no. But, I do know your father." Gran Torino stated, causing Wyvern to scoff.
"How's he doing?" Gran Torino asked.
"Enjoying retirement. Kinda like how you should be, Old Timer." Wyvern replied, receiving an unamused glare from the old hero.
"And the rest of the Health Syndicate?" Gran Torino asked, causing Wyvern to look at him in suspicion.
"..." Wyvern said nothing, causing Gran Torino to turn and make eye contact.
"Hm?" He asked, looking at Wyvern's stoic face.
"Tch. Everyone's spread apart doing their own thing these days." Wyvern explained, receiving a nod in understanding.
"I see." Gran Torino said.
"I've been informed about your investigation into the League. Now that Stain is captured, the media's put a spotlight on the whole League. Everyone knows his involvement with them. You know what that means, right?" Gran Torino asked, causing Wyvern to scoff.
"I do." He said, remembering the video he watched about Stain, "I've seen the video online." He stated, causing Gran Torino to scoff.
"Villains are gonna come out of the shadows now that Stain's motives are trending. He's inspiring them. Even worse, they'll be seeking out the League of Villains." Gran Torino said, looking serious.
"They're already capable of making multiple Nomu's. There's no telling what they'll do with an expanded roster." Wyvern said, crossing his arms in deep thought. He visibly frowned, not liking what was going on. Gran Torino examined Wyvern's facial expression, sensing he was in deep thought. His phone call with All Might entered the back of his mind, appearing in his head.
"If the villain in charge knew this would happen from the beginning, then he is a brilliant strategist." Gran Torino admitted, "He's steadily getting rid of any obstacles one by one, trying to create conditions that will favor his own purpose." He explained.
"When I heard from Tsukauchi that Nomu had multiple quirks, I had a bad feeling. What if he's back?" All Might said on the other line. Gran Torino could tell he was stressing out. He knew exactly who All Might was referring to.
"You're concerned it could be the man who killed Shimura, my sworn friend, your master, and the previous holder of One For All. The man who opened that hole in your stomach. You're afraid the villain named All For One is on the rise again." Gran Torino questioned.
"For him to have survived such injuries, though, I don't want to imagine it's possible." All Might said. Gran Torino returned to the present, staring at Izuku and Hayato with Wyvern. He stayed silent as he thought about the investigation.
"If All For One is truly involved, then Wyvern and the Health Syndicate have no idea what sort of web their missing list has got them wrapped into." Gran Torino thought, frowning seriously.
"All For One…" He repeated in his head, continuing to watch Izuku geek out with Hayato.
"Once these last days are over, I hope you find the time to tell them everything. They deserve to know the truth." He thought.
Ami watched Izuku and Hayato geek out with each other about every hero fact they knew, making her giggle at them in amusement. She was happy to see Hayato get along with Izuku.
"I knew they'd get along." She thought. She looked around the park and caught sight of everyone else. Iida was sitting in another picnic table with Manual and Backdraft. Iida was mostly eating his own lunch while the two water heroes talked amongst themselves.
She glanced to the left and saw Wyvern and Gran Torino standing next to each other. She could see Fuego on Wyvern's shoulder, making her wonder what they were talking about.
"I wonder if Gran Torino knows about the investigation?" Ami theorized, frowning slightly. She slumped her shoulders and leaned her chin on her hand.
"I wonder what's going to happen to the investigation now?" She thought, thinking about what she knew.
"The Nomu they're looking for is dead. Stain was captured, too. So, what now? The League is still out there? Are the heroes gonna have to wait and see what the League does next?" Ami wondered.
She sighed and pulled her phone out of her pocket. Hayato had returned it to her as soon as they arrived at the Training Area. She looked at the screen and saw several notifications come up, sparking her curiosity.
"Eight new messages?" She stated, checking her messages. They were all from the last two days, making her frown slightly with worry.
"These were from the two days I was unconscious. I hope I didn't scare anyone." Ami thought, checking the messages by oldest.
"Izuku?" She questioned, looking at the oldest message. They were from Izuku. She looked at the two text messages from Izuku and read them out loud in a quiet voice.
"Ami. I'm in Hosu. If you see this message, tell me you're safe." Ami quoted, feeling sad. She remembered that night, thinking about when she was in the third floor of the Science Area. She remembered thinking about Izuku at that moment, wondering if he was trying to reach her. Unfortunately, she was right.
"Izuku was trying to contact me." Ami whispered, moving on to his last message. She raised her eyes at the location. It was a pin on Izuku's location. The message was sent to several of their friends. Ami looked at the pin and frowned.
"Ekou Street." Ami whispered, looking at the location on her phone. That was where the fight with Stain occurred.
"At least you reported it, Izzy…" She sighed, remembering what Izuku had told her about the fight. She sniffled and wiped tears away, thinking about what would have happened if she had seen this message.
"I would've ran as fast as I could towards you, Izzy." Ami whispered, frowning.
"But, then…If I had seen the message. Hayato would've been by himself. The Nomu would have taken him." Ami realized, squeezing her phone. She took a deep breath and shrugged her shoulders. Even though it had nearly cost her life, she was fine with the outcome. She saved Hayato's life, Stain was captured, Izuku was safe, And so was Iida and Todoroki.
"I'll have to thank him later." Ami thought, realizing she never really talked to Todoroki since the Sports Festival.
She moved on from Izuku's messages and looked at the last four. She saw the name and raised her eyes in surprise, feeling her heart skip a beat for some reason.
"Kacchan?…" Ami gasped, staring at his name in shock. The messages were all sent while she was asleep, making her frown. She hoped she didn't scare him or something. She shook her head at that thought. This was Kacchan. He wasn't scared that easily. She checked his messages and read the first two.
"These were sent on the first day I was asleep." Ami commented, mumbling his messages to herself.
"Habanero. I saw the news. You better not be dead." Ami repeated, flaring her nostrils.
"Where the hell are you? Say something." Ami repeated, smirking slightly. She could tell he was pissed, but he wasn't expressing it in the usual "I'll kill you myself!", kind of way.
"He didn't know I was asleep." Ami thought, wondering what he saw on the news.
"The real story was covered up. All he knew was that I was protected by Imiter and Nashorn. Even though that wasn't the truth." Ami recalled, looking at the last few messages from the second day she was asleep. The first message was sent at noon, but the last few were sent as a chain thirty minutes later.
"Habanero, I know you're not dead or else I'd be seeing your face on the news."
"What's going on, Habanero? You better not be ignoring me on purpose. Fine. Whatever. I'll see you in class." Ami repeated, finishing reading his messages.
"Heh." Ami giggled, smiling at his messages.
"So much for not being our friend, Kacchan." Ami smirked, typing out a reply to all his messages.
Best Jeanist Agency
Best Jeanist finished combing Bakugo's hair for the day. His earlier outburst towards a group of kids caused his hair to stand up again, annoying the Number Four Hero.
"There. That should do it. Now you're looking like an upstanding hero again."
"Grrr…" Bakugo growled, holding in his inner rage. The mere act of someone combing his hair gave him anger. He blew air out of his nose and felt a vibration in his pocket.
"Huh?" He said. Best Jeanist felt the vibration while combing his hair and paused.
"You have a message." Best Jeanist said, causing Bakugo to pull his phone out.
"I know what a message sounds like." Bakugo replied, looking at his phone. He looked at the screen and loosened the glare on his face in realization, unclenching his jaw.
"Habanero." Bakugo whispered. Best Jeanist heard the nickname and stared down at Bakugo's phone behind his shoulder, keeping a solemn face.
"It's that girl." Best Jeanist said, recognizing the name. Bakugo checked the message and read it in his head.
"Thanks for caring, Kacchan. I'm okay. I'll tell you about it later."
Bakugo read the message and squeezed his phone, narrowing his eyes in frustration. He started to growl at an increasing volume, scaring everyone in Best Jeanist's Agency.
"Grrrrrr!" He growled, gritting his teeth with rage. He reread the message over and over, seeing nothing else pop up. He flared his nostrils in frustration, causing his hair to stick back up to its usual position. Best Jeanist looked at the hair and sighed in annoyance as Bakugo expressed his anger through text.
"WHAT TOOK SO LONG YOU IDIOT. I'LL KILL YOU!" Bakugo roared, sending the message to Habanero without any restraint. In the Museum, Ami felt her phone vibrate only five seconds after sending her message.
"Wow, that was fast." She blurted out, checking to see his message. She read it in her head and smirked. That was the kind of message she expected to see from him. Reading it again, she couldn't help but crack up.
"Pfft. Hahaha!" She laughed, forgetting all about her misery. Her mood brightened up immensely.
Quirk Museum - Front Entrance - Later
"I only came back to Hosu for Izuku's sake. Now that everything is okay, we'll be heading out now." Gran Torino stated, looking at Backdraft with a solemn expression.
"Mhm." Backdraft said, nodding his head in thanks, "Thanks for coming. I know how worried Izuku was when Ami wouldn't wake up." He said, receiving a nod.
"Here's for a peaceful last day." Gran Torino smirked, making Backdraft smile. Off to the side, Ami wrapped her arms around Izuku and hugged him tightly. Izuku smiled and returned the hug, feeling her warmth. He was happy to see her at full strength again.
"I'll see you at school, huh?" Izuku asked, pulling away from Ami. She smiled and nodded back.
"Or home, wherever we end up." Ami said, receiving a happy nod.
"Mhm." Izuku mumbled.
"Hey, Deku!" Hayato exclaimed, getting Izuku's attention. Hayato rushed towards Izuku with a small frown, standing beside Ami.
"Bye, Deku…It was nice to meet you." Hayato said with a sad tone.
"It was nice to meet you, too, Spark Plug." Izuku said, kneeling down to his height.
"Keep improving your quirk, it's awesome!" Izuku said, cheering Hayato up. He smiled and stood proud in his cardboard hero costume.
"Ami said your quirk was like mine. So, I hope you get better, too." Hayato said, beaming with energy. Izuku glanced at Ami with a confused face, seeing the grin on her face. He figured Ami kept One For All secret and only told him he was working on improving his quirk.
"Yeah, I hope so, too. Maybe, I'll see you again someday. Then I can show you how much stronger I've become." Izuku said, making Hayato nod his head at lightspeed.
"Sweet." He exclaimed.
"Midoriya!" Gran Torino called out, getting their attention, "No more dilly dallying." He said, walking away from the Museum.
"Right." Izuku said, facing Ami. Ami smiled and flared her nostrils in amusement, nodding in understanding.
"Bye, Izzy." She said, receiving a nod back. He turned around and sped towards Gran Torino, cranking his head to the right to see Ami in his peripheral vision. He waved goodbye at them with happiness.
"Bye, Ami! Bye, Spark Plug!" Izuku hollered.
"Bye!" Ami and Hayato exclaimed.
Izuku walked with Gran Torino and waved goodbye. Ami and Hayato both smiled and waved back at him, watching as they walked further down the hill and disappeared.
"Your brother's awesome!" Hayato said, looking at Ami with a big grin.
"You said that already." Ami laughed, looking down at his happy face. He laughed with her and nodded.
"Yeah. I just wanted to say it again." He admitted, looking outside, "So, now what?" He asked, getting a puzzled look from Ami.
"Now…I don't know? Backdraft gave me the day off on account of just waking up. So…I'm free." Ami explained, making Hayato's heart start racing with ideas.
"You wanna go to the Arcade? Everything still works!" Hayato suggested, making Ami scoff in amusement. She knew he'd say that. She shrugged her shoulders and gave in.
"Alright." Ami said. Hayato smiled wider and threw his fists in the air in celebration.
The duo entered the lobby, looking at the direction of the Play Area. Ami glanced at the direction of the Hero Area and paused, causing Hayato to run into her.
"What?" Hayato asked, looking up at Ami.
"Hold on. I wanna look at something." Ami said, receiving a nod from Hayato.
Hero Area
Ami closed the doors behind her, entering the Hall of Heroes in silence. She stared at the doors and froze, listening to the silence. The room was eerily quiet, making her gulp. She took a deep breath and dropped her shoulders, turning around in reluctance. She had a blank face as she surveyed the room. To her surprise, the room was completely empty.
She raised her eyebrows upward in surprise, keeping a straight face. The debris was gone. The tables and displays, damaged and undamaged, were completely gone. Not even the Nomu's corpse was present. She stepped forward and stared at the floor, noticing the scorch marks on the carpet. She clenched her fists in response, wincing at the past.
There was a very faint smell of smoke throughout the room. The smell came mostly from the carpet. She continued to walk forward and saw a huge bloodstain on the carpet.
"This must be where the Nomu died." Ami thought, looking at the bloodstain. She looked at the carpet and saw a smaller trail of blood heading towards the center. She followed the trail to the center of the room, clenching her fists even tighter. When the trail ended, Ami came to a stop. She stared at the carpet beneath her and frowned, seeing another bloodstain on the ground.
"This is the spot…where I died…" Ami thought, feeling a chill go down her spine. She sniffled a bit as she remembered glimpses of the past. She could hear herself screaming in pain. She remembered the strain on her throat as well as the warmth. She had used her plasma beam attack inside the building. She unclenched her fists and felt a breeze touch her hair, causing her to look up.
She gasped at the sight of the massive hole above her. She stared at the broken metal ceiling and winced, looking straight through the building.
"I can't believe I did that…" Ami blurted out, hearing her voice echo. Her plasma beam melted through all five floors, allowing her to see the clear evening sky. She frowned and flashed her teeth, gritting them softly with guilt. Not only was there a massive hole in the ceiling, she could see damage trailing to the side and into a wall. She remembered that, as well. She remembered letting go of the Nomu during the electrocution. She fell and brought her plasma beam with her, damaging everything in its path before dissipating as she was no longer being electrocuted. She closed her eyes and sniffled, rubbing her eyes with her wrist.
"You should see what Rebecca did to the Hangar." Imiter stated, surprising Ami. She flinched and jumped to the side, nearly losing her balance.
"Ah!" She yelped, catching herself. She felt her heart beating rapidly as she stared at Imiter, calming herself down. Imiter noticed her response and laughed.
"Haha. Je suis désolée, Mademoiselle. Didn't mean to scare you." Imiter said, bowing at Ami in apology. Ami looked at the retired hero in shock, surprised to see him standing next to her all of a sudden.
"Mr. Imiter! You're-" Ami said.
"Standing?" Imiter interjected, nodding in confirmation, "All thanks to you, mon amie." He smiled, pressing his hands together in prayer. Ami looked at his body and saw his arm was in a cast. She couldn't see his stomach wound thanks to the suit he was wearing, but the small bit of strain as he bowed clued her in that he was still recovering in that area. She watched him bow and weakly raised one side of her lips, making a crooked smile.
"Hey, Ami." Misaki said, getting Ami's attention. She looked away from Imiter and saw Misaki waving at her. She smiled at Ami as she reclined in a wheelchair, surprising Ami. Her eyes widened at the sight of Misaki in a wheelchair, making her concerned.
"Misaki. You're in a wheelchair now?" Ami gasped, hoping she was okay.
"Actually, it's supposed to be mine." Imiter admitted, adjusting his tie. He stepped behind Misaki and placed one hand on the wheelchair's rubber grip and the other on Misaki's shoulder.
"She's due at any time and I certainly wasn't going to let her drag me around." Imiter said, feeling his wife grab hold of his hand. Ami looked at the happy couple and nodded, sniffling lightly. She understood wanting his wife to be comfortable, but she was still worried about his own wounds.
"I guess, but shouldn't you be resting?" She questioned.
"Not today, Ami. Not today." Imiter said, shaking his head, "After all, there's work to be done!" He said, raising his voice. His voice echoed through the room, causing Ami to drop her crooked smile. She returned her attention back to the damage and felt guilty, letting herself frown.
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Imiter. I know about the cover up, but I still feel terrible about destroying the Hero Area…" Ami apologized, looking down at the floor in shame. Imiter stared at the sad frown on Ami's lips and smirked, shaking his head profusely.
"Oh, ho, ho, mon amie. Don't be sad. I'm quite happy with the way things turned out." Imiter said, surprising Ami. She looked up at him with a puzzled expression.
"B-but, the damage-" Ami stuttered.
"Ah, forget about it." Imiter interrupted, waving his hand at her direction, "These things happen sometimes. Besides, I was planning on remodeling soon anyway." He admitted, shrugging his shoulders.
"Really?" Ami asked, still confused.
"Haha. Yup. I can see it now. A Hero Area with less halls and more open space. I might even keep the hole in here. Haha." Imiter joked, laughing at himself.
"But, you and Hayato are safe now. That's all that matters." Misaki interjected, getting a nod and grin from Imiter.
"And thanks to you, I'll be able to see the birth of our child." Imiter said, holding onto Misaki's hand with happiness. Ami smiled at them, feeling a whole lot better than before. As she wiped the tears off her face, Ami felt Misaki wrap her arms around her waist. She looked down and saw Misaki leaning forward, hugging her waist with a tearful smile.
"Thank you, Ami. For saving my husband's life and keeping Hayato safe." Misaki whispered, making Ami smile.
"You're welcome." Ami said, returning the hug. The two stood there hugging for a few seconds while Imiter watched with a grin. Ami felt comfortable in Misaki's arms, closing her eyes and holding on for a couple more seconds. She liked the hug, it was like hugging her own mother.
"Oop." Misaki said, letting go of Ami. Ami opened her eyes and stepped away, letting go of Misaki. She raised her hands up in confusion, watching Misaki rub her belly with a warm smile.
"Another kick?" Ami asked, dropping her hands to her side.
"Mhm. The baby's grateful, too." Misaki confirmed, making Ami laugh.
Food Area
Backdraft sat on a stool, leaning his elbows on the counter. He was in the bar. Thankfully, the bar and kitchens were untouched by the Nomu's attack. He couldn't say the same for the mess behind him. The robots worked on repairing the broken tables and chairs while staff worked on cleaning up the tables and chairs left intact. Tons of food and drinks were spilled on the floor, leaving a big mess for both man and machine to clean up.
Backdraft watched the workers clean up with a cold drink in his watery hand. He offered to help with the clean up but the staff refused. They were more than happy to let Backdraft relax.
The tv was on at the bar. Backdraft stared at the closed captions and read the news report, unable to hear it through all the work the staff and machines were putting.
"Ugh." Backdraft groaned, rolling his eyes at the news. It was about the Hero Killer. All the news ever talked about was Stain for the past two days. It made him feel uneasy. He didn't like all the attention they were putting on the psychopath. He remembered Stain's words when he and Wyvern arrived at Ekou Street. He had licked the Nomu's blood off a hero and stabbed it, letting Midoriya fall. His final speech shook him to his very core. Then there was the viral video getting posted around online. It popped up out of nowhere yesterday and wouldn't go away no matter how many times it was removed.
He saw it for himself last night, accidentally finding a copy on an internet forum. As much as he hated it. Stain had a point. There were a lot of heroes in it for fame and fortune. He wasn't like that, of course. Backdraft always knew he wanted to be a firefighter. He only changed his mind in middle school after getting encouragement by his peers. He applied to UA and got in with ease. All he ever wanted was to put out fires and save people. Backdraft sighed and placed his drink on the counter, frowning in sadness.
"Fame or fortune. Still doesn't make it right." Backdraft whispered, thinking about Ingenium and Rocket. Rocket didn't deserve it. None of the heroes Stain murdered deserved to die. The bartender refilled his glass, snapping him out of his thoughts.
"Thanks." Backdraft said, looking at his glass.
"Mhm." The bartender hummed, returning to work. Backdraft stared at the cold drink and grabbed it with his watery hand, taking a sip.
"Another one. Please." Wyvern said, taking a seat on the empty stool on Backdraft's left side. Backdraft finished taking a drink and glanced at his left, seeing Wyvern looking at the bartender. She placed his glass on the counter and poured him a drink, making him nod in appreciation.
"Thanks." Wyvern said, holding the glass in his hand.
"Mhm." The bartender hummed, returning to work.
"You're looking blue." Wyvern said, taking a sip from his drink. Backdraft shrugged in response, mumbling a bit.
"Just tired of all this Stain talk on television." Backdraft admitted, looking at the television. Wyvern glanced at the television and stared at the news report, nodding in agreement.
"Us, too." Wyvern said, referring to Fuego. He continued to stare at the television as the news moved on to reporting the weather. Wyvern took another sip from his glass, lowering his eyes just a bit. He placed his glass on the counter and glanced at Backdraft, thinking about Ami in his mind.
"So, now that Ames is awake, you got anything planned for tomorrow? It is her last day here, after all." Wyvern asked, making Backdraft scoff.
"Ugh. No..." Backdraft groaned, dropping his head on to the counter with a thud.
"I'll only have the morning left with her. She'll be leaving in the afternoon…" Backdraft grumbled. Wyvern nodded in understanding and slightly frowned under his stoic expression.
"Yeah. Sucks. Feels like we just met her." Wyvern said, realizing how fast the week went by.
"Right, Fuego?" Wyvern asked, hearing a growl from his quirk. Fuego's head poked out of the extra fabric on Wyvern's shoulder, nodding in agreement.
"Mhm." Fuego said. Backdraft listened to Wyvern and Fuego and kept his head on the counter, grunting inaudibly.
"Yup. I'll miss messing with her. I'll miss this bar, too." Wyvern said, looking around the Food Area with his glass in hand. The way he worded it caught Backdraft's attention.
"You're leaving?" Backdraft asked, picking his head up off the counter. He looked at Wyvern with surprise, receiving a nod from Wyvern and Fuego.
"Yup. It's back to HQ tomorrow evening." Wyvern said, while Fuego flared his nostrils.
"We're not coming back." Fuego growled, causing Wyvern to scoff at his quirk. He shook his head and took a sip from his drink.
"This whole investigation started because of the Nomu that attacked the prison bus. Now that its dead, we're sort of back to the beginning again." Wyvern explained.
"Still, no reason not to celebrate. After all, Ami's awake, The Hero Killer's arrested, and the League has four less Nomu to wreak havoc with." Wyvern said, taking another sip.
"Hmph. Thanks for your help, Wyvern. You, Fuego, and the rest of the Health Syndicate. We couldn't have identified those Nomu without you guys." Backdraft said, being grateful.
"Yeah…That's one more thing to celebrate about." Wyvern said, frowning as he took another sip from his drink.
"Do you wanna know something about the Nomu's?" He asked, getting Backdraft's attention. He looked at the stoic hero and tilted his head slightly.
"Sure?" He questioned, causing Wyvern to pause and stare at the counter.
"Those three Nomu we encountered in Hosu had 12 quirks in total." He explained, causing Backdraft to gasp.
"Twelve?" He questioned, shocked by the new information.
"They each had four quirks." Wyvern added, holding onto his glass on the counter, "But, the fourth Nomu…The one we were after. That thing had nine quirks in its DNA." Wyvern explained, causing Backdraft to get goosebumps.
"Nine!?" He questioned, finding it hard to believe, "Wha- How does it have so many?" He asked, making Wyvern scoff.
"Question of the year." Wyvern stated.
"But, surprisingly, that's not the weirdest thing about the Fourth Nomu." He added, confusing Backdraft even more.
"What is it?"
"Remember the unknown DNA Tsukauchi mentioned in the tailblade sample? Well, we found out what it was. The thing wasn't human after all. It was a modified housecat." Wyvern explained, terrifying Backdraft.
"What? You're serious?" Backdraft asked, receiving a stoic nod.
"Completely. Not only was it a housecat. It was intelligent. It acted on orders, but it was still capable of doing more. It could think for itself like a human." Wyvern stated, causing Backdraft to gulp.
"It's no wonder the thing was able to take down a prison bus." Backdraft said, thinking about the bus crash. The thought that someone was capable of turning humans into monsters was disturbing. But now, a simple housecat, too? The act of putting an animal through that kind of operation had to have been horrific, making him frown with sympathy.
"That's terrifying. So, then, the League is-"
"More capable than we could have ever imagined. They've got the resources to make multiple Nomu out of people and animals. And now we know they can be intelligent. You can bet they've got an even smarter one hiding around somewhere." Wyvern said, finishing his drink. He placed his glass on the counter and waited for the bartender to give him a refill. Backdraft also finished his drink. The bartender approached them and quickly refilled their glasses, receiving appreciative nods from Backdraft and Wyvern. Wyvern looked at his refilled glass and frowned, staring at his reflection in the liquid.
"22 quirks total and they were all on our missing person's list. 24 if you count the USJ Nomu." Wyvern said, making Backdraft shiver.
"That's a lot of bodies." Backdraft commented, taking a sip from his drink. He looked at Wyvern's stoic expression and sighed.
"Do you think we'll ever find them?" Backdraft asked, hoping for the best. Wyvern glanced at him and flared his nostrils, shaking his head in response. He held his glass and took his first sip.
"Not likely. Whatever method the League used to take their quirks had to have been fatal. Everyone pretty much agrees there's no point in keeping a corpse if you've already extracted its quirk." Wyvern frowned, squeezing his glass tightly.
"All we can do now is hope their deaths were quick and painless." He said, getting a concerned look from Backdraft. He could tell the stoic hero was getting emotional, making him sigh. He took another sip and
shrugged his shoulders, returning his attention to the television.
"So, you're leaving tomorrow. Does that mean tonight's the last night you'll be here?" Backdraft asked, changing the topic. Wyvern heard the question and scoffed, grinning for half a second.
"Uh huh. So, if you've got anything to ask. Now's the time." Wyvern said.
"All right." Backdraft nodded, accepting the offer. He started off with the question that's been bothering him for a while.
"Why the stoicism?" He asked, receiving a nod. Wyvern took a sip from his drink before he answered the question.
"It's just something I do to keep cool, is all. Fuego does all the yelling for me, anyway." He explained, causing Backdraft to narrow his eye in skepticism.
"Keep cool, huh? Still have time to mess around with people, though, right?" Backdraft asked, making Wyvern chuckle.
"Hehe. I consider messing with people a sport. Gotta blow off steam somehow. Be happy, that's how I do it." Wyvern stated, taking another sip, "I used to be the loud type a long time ago." He finished, getting Backdraft's curiosity.
"Really? So when did that change?" Backdraft asked, making Wyvern flare his nostrils in nostalgia. He thought about the past with a tiny smirk.
"Well, it was because of my master. He taught me how to control myself and keep my emotions in check. But, he also taught me how to channel my emotions and use them when they were necessary. I learned a lot of discipline from him. I'd never admit it to his face, but Fuego and I wouldn't be here if it weren't for him." Wyvern said, surprising Backdraft.
"He helped you that much?" He questioned, receiving a nod from the stoic hero.
"I was a different person growing up. I disobeyed my parents and got myself in trouble all the time. It got so bad I nearly ruined my whole life. But, then…he showed up. He took me on as his apprentice and taught me everything he knew and more." Wyvern explained.
"That's great." Backdraft stated.
"He's a good guy. He's intimidating when you first meet him, but deep down, he's still human. He's observant to a fault, but he's always professional. And he knows how to command respect from others." Wyvern stated.
"He sounds pretty genuine." Backdraft admitted, hearing Wyvern's praises.
"Yeah. You're kinda like him in that regard." Wyvern said, causing Backdraft to raise his eye in confusion.
"Huh? Me?" Backdraft questioned, genuinely surprised.
"Don't sell yourself short, Backdraft. You know how to take control of a situation. All because of that firefighter training crap, too. I have a lot of respect for you because of that." Wyvern said, chuckling after saying respect. Backdraft looked at him with a questionable stare, remembering their first meeting with a scoff.
"Respect for me? You called me, Sprinkler, when we first met." Backdraft said, makjng Wyvern chuckle at his expense.
"Yeah, and it's still funny." Wyvern added, making Backdraft groan.
"No it isn't." Backdraft said.
"Hehe. Relax. I don't mean it. Not all the time, at least." Wyvern said, taking another sip of his drink.
"If you respect me that much to compare me to your master, then why the nickname?" Backdraft asked.
"Like I said, gotta blow off steam somehow." Wyvern explained, "And, to tell you the truth, it was because you didn't recognize me." He said, causing Backdraft to pause halfway through drinking.
"What?" He questioned, looking at Wyvern in confusion. He remembered that first meeting from beginning to end, shaking his head in response.
"That's not true. I was the only one who knew who your father was." Backdraft said, defending himself.
"Yeah, you knew about my father. But you didn't remember me." Wyvern said, pointing at himself. Backdraft looked at him with a narrowed eye. He had no idea what Wyvern was talking about.
"...I've never met you before in my life." Backdraft said, making Wyvern scoff and roll his eyes.
"Can you believe this, Fuego?" Wyvern questioned, getting his quirk's attention.
"All that water in his body must have gone to his brain." Fuego said, reappearing on Wyvern's shoulder. A small puff of smoke flew out of Fuego's nostrils.
"Hey!" Backdraft said, hearing Fuego's comment.
"I knew Dragonflame had a son and that he was also a hero, but that's it. I made a guess with only your hero name to go by and lucked out." Backdraft explained.
"Hehe. So you didn't actually know I was Dragonflame's son?" Wyvern asked.
"At the time? Yes." Backdraft replied, making Wyvern chuckle.
"Hmph. Good guess, Sprinkler." Fuego grunted, making Wyvern nod in agreement.
"Well, you're right. You haven't met me before. Not personally. But we crossed paths before." Wyvern stated, causing Backdraft to tilt his head in confusion.
"I don't understand…" the water hero said.
"Oh, c'mon, Sprinkler. You really don't remember the horror stories about Class 1-A?" Wyvern questioned, looking at Backdraft with a raised eyebrow.
"Horror stor-" Backdraft said, stopping himself from speaking. Wyvern's words repeated through his head, causing the cogs in his brain to move.
"Horror stories? 1-A?" Backdraft thought, thinking about the past.
"Hey, did you hear about that new kid in the freshman class?" A girl asked, getting Backdraft's attention. He looked at his female classmate in confusion, shaking his head in response.
"No?" Backdraft replied.
"They say he took down the zeropointer in the entrance exam!" She stated, causing Backdraft's eye to rise.
"What? Took it down? That's crazy!" Backdraft exclaimed, surprised to find out about this now.
"Yeah, I heard he melted it down to scrap!"
Present
"Wait, that was you?" Backdraft said, returning to the present. He looked at Wyvern in surprise, watching as his lips formed a proud smirk.
"I remember you. You took down a zeropointer in the entrance exam!" Backdraft stated, making Wyvern nod in accomplishment.
"Yup. It was easy, too." He said. Backdraft looked at Wyvern and narrowed his eye, remembering the other stories about him.
"I heard all sorts of horror stories about you. You always got in trouble with the teacher. You constantly fought with your classmates. You were so bad, you were kicked out of the school before the year ended." Backdraft said, making Wyvern's smirk disappear.
"Uh huh." He said, taking another sip with a stoic face.
"You got kicked out of the most prestigious hero school on this side of Japan and still became a hero?" Backdraft asked, looking at Wyvern in shock.
"How?" He questioned.
"Like I said, my master saved me." Wyvern replied, placing his glass on the counter.
"Incredible. He must have some way with words, then." Backdraft said.
"So. You went to UA during my last year?" Backdraft asked, taking a sip from his drink.
"Mhm. My first and only year." Wyvern stated.
"Is that why you went to the Sports Festival with me? To step foot in UA again?" Backdraft asked, looking at Wyvern.
"Meh. A little bit, yeah. It was mostly for the investigation, though." Wyvern replied. Backdraft smiled and nodded, taking another sip. He thought about Ami and changed topic.
"Hmph. So, those times you messed with Ami. You respect her, too?" Backdraft asked, receiving a nod.
Different reasons, but, yeah. Kid's something else, isn't she?" Wyvern stated, crossing his arms.
"She is." Backdraft said, nodding in agreement, "You gonna say goodbye to her, tomorrow?" He asked.
"Yeah. I'll say goodbye." Wyvern said, smirking faintly.
Ami's Internship Day 7 - Training Area
Five drones hovered above the obstacle course. Their buzzing alerted Ami to their presence. She leaned behind a wall and stayed hidden, dressed in clothes she picked out herself from the gift shop. She heard their buzzing come to a stop and darted her eyes to the left. She poked her head out the side and looked behind the wall, immediately giving away her position. The five drones were hovering in place, staring at her with their sensors lighting up red.
She gulped and immediately pulled her head away as the drones fired pellets into the wall. She listened to the pellets make impact with the wall and gritted her teeth, sending smoke into the air. She leaned her head downwards and looked at her left again, getting another idea.
"Easy." She thought, swirling the flames around her mouth with her tongue. She felt the fire coalescing into a ball and smirked. The drones continued to fire pellets into the wall, denting the metal slightly, but leaving no permanent damage. Ami looked at the floor and spat out a small fireball out of her mouth, splatting onto the ground. The drones sensors picked up the heat and stared at the small patch of fire on the ground. They stopped firing and stared at the flame, giving Ami time to enact her plan.
She jumped out into the open and whistled, landing on her elbow. A line of fire spewed out of her lips, zipping through the air and piercing straight through one of the drones. She smirked as the drone spun around in the air before losing control, shooting sparks out of its damaged hull and crashing.
It bursted into flames in front of her, making her lick her lips at the sight of the fire. She opened her mouth and inhaled, sending the small patch of flame she used as distraction into her mouth. The fire created by the destroyed drone also flew into her mouth, causing her flames to burn twice as hot inside.
The remaining four drones realized the flames were all gone and immediately opened fire at Ami's direction, causing her to roll to the side. They followed her roll and sprayed the floor with pellets as she stood up with an intense smirk. She stared at the approaching barrage of pellets and clenched her fists in preparation. Looking left and right, she saw walls leading to other rooms in the obstacle course. She picked the wall to her left and leaped forward, avoiding the pellets.
The drones ceased firing and sped towards the wall, assuming she was running down the hall. Instead, Ami repeated her move from before, jumping onto the floor in front of them and opening her mouth. Flames erupted out of her mouth as the drones came to a stop. Two of the drones quickly reversed and flew away as the other two drones closest to her were engulfed in flames.
They hovered there inside the flames as their armor melted and warped, causing sparks to fly out. Their circuits went haywire as their engines overloaded from the heat. They popped like popcorn in a microwave and crashed on the floor, making Ami very happy.
She closed her mouth and stared at the two burning drones on the floor, noticing there was only two. She heard buzzing in front of her and saw their lights through the small cloud of smoke leftover from her flamethrower.
"Two left." She thought, diving to the floor as pellets sprayed randomly through the smoke. She felt the pellets zoom over her head as she laid between the two melted drones. She looked at the drones behind the smoke and realized they were firing randomly.
"They can't see me." She thought, smiling sadistically. She looked at the smoke and crawled forward, entering the cloud. The last two drones flew through the smoke and looked at the floor, spotting the two destroyed drones. They looked at the empty hall as the smoke cleared up behind them.
"Mm-mm." Ami coughed, getting their attention. The drones heard the cough behind them and fired their pellets as they spun around. They fully turned around and saw nothing in front of them, confusing them momentarily.
"Down here." Ami said, getting their attention. They heard her voice below them followed by a whistle. A thin line of fire pierced through the drone on the left, causing it to drop to the floor beside Ami. The last drone looked down and stared at Ami through its sensors before hearing a second whistle. Another thin line of fire pierced straight into its eyes, burning a hole through its armor and melting its circuits. The drone quickly shut off, crashing to the floor with a thud. Ami stared at the deceased drones and smiled. She inhaled the flames left behind on the floor and swallowed them, deactivating her quirk and catching her breath.
She relaxed and unclenched her fists, dropping her shoulders in satisfaction.
"Perfect." Ami said, looking at her clothes. They were left unscathed by her flames, thankfully. She heard buzzing from an even smaller drone and looked up, spotting it staring down at her.
"How was that?" Ami asked, smiling at the drone. Outside the Obstacle Course, Backdraft stared at Ami through a device on his wrist. He smiled proudly at Ami's successful performance, nodding his head at her even though she couldn't see it.
"Excellent work, Flame Guard." Backdraft praised, making Ami feel giddy inside.
"You've gotten good at this. That was even faster than the last four tries." Backdraft observed, making Ami nod.
"It was a lot easier to deal with them since you removed the no collateral damage rule." Ami said, nodding at the drone.
"Well, I thought you deserved the break. Imiter's gonna replace this whole obstacle course anyway." Backdraft said, echoing through the drone's microphone. Ami smiled in appreciation, remembering Imiter's words from this morning.
"Of course you can use the Obstacle Course again, Monsieur." Imiter laughed, nodding at Backdraft.
"Thank you, Mr. Imiter. Since this is the last day of her internship, I wanted to squeeze some time in for one last test." Backdraft said, glancing at Ami.
"Thank you, Mr. Imiter, Sir." Ami said, nodding at the retired hero with a smile.
"I'll make sure Ami leaves it in one piece."
"Oh, don't worry about that." Imiter said, waving his hand at Backdraft.
"The Museum won't be opening up for some time while we make repairs. And since I'm planning to remodel, I say go nuts." Imiter said.
"Really?" Backdraft asked, crossing his arms.
"Mhm. Ami will be doing me a favor if she ends up melting a wall or two. Haha." Imiter laughed. Ami's mind focused back to the present as Backdraft talked through the drone's speaker.
"Catch!" He said, pressing a button on the device's touch screen. Ami watched as the drone fired a bottle at her, causing her to quickly raise her hands up. She tracked the bottle's trajectory and jumped in the air, catching it with both hands.
"Nice catch." Backdraft said, watching Ami hold onto the bottle. Ami looked up at the drone and bowed in appreciation.
"Thanks, Backdraft, Sir!" Ami said, respectfully. She looked at the bottle and licked her lips, feeling thirsty. She twisted the bottle cap and opened it, taking a drink of water. She felt the cold water in her mouth and sighed, feeling rehydrated.
"That's better." Ami smiled, closing the bottle of water with the cap. She needed it after the test Backdraft had put her through. She had already destroyed fifteen other drones before destroying these last five. She was feeling tired after all that effort.
"It's not over yet." Backdraft warned, getting her attention. The walls began to vibrate around Ami. She darted her eyes all over the place as the walls started falling back underground. In seconds, the hall she was in was gone and was replaced by a large room. Some of the walls only dropped halfway, creating small barriers for cover. She looked around the room and kept herself balanced as the changing obstacle course shook the ground.
VVVRRR VVVRRR
Ami heard the loud honk and turned around, staring at two medium-size robots. They were like the ones she dealt with the last time she was in the Obstacle Course. They tilted their heads and stared at her with their single red eye's. She looked at their arms and saw spider bots crawling around them. They were mounted on their arms, blinking and staring individually at her with curiosity.
"Last boss." She thought, swallowing the water in her mouth. She looked around her surroundings and jumped behind cover, leaning on a barrier.
The two big robots stepped forward, clenching their fists in anticipation. They raised their arms up in the air and prepared to drop them. Ami looked up and saw the robots and quickly lunged forward. The robots dropped their fists onto the barrier, destroying it instantly. She stared at the robots and activated her quirk, whistling at the robot. The flame zoomed towards the robot like a bullet and pierced through its chest armor. Despite the tiny hole going through its chest, the robot kept going. The spider bots hopped off the robots arms, one-by-one and crawled towards Ami.
Ami quickly ran in the opposite direction, doing serpentine moves. The spider bots watched her actions and scanned her movements, looking for the perfect chance to fire their ropes. Ami clenched her fists and ran down a narrow hall, hearing the robots movements behind her.
Backdraft watched Ami retreat through the small drone camera and wondered what her plan was. She leaned on the wall and caught her breath, hearing them coming closer. She looked at her hand and saw the bottle of water in her grip.
"I can use this." Ami thought, coming up with an idea. She ran down the hall and entered a different room, mirroring the one she came from. In the center of the room, Ami spotted cylindrical barriers with exposed roofs, causing her to smirk.
"That's it." Ami thought, running towards the cylinder. She jumped inside the cylinder and kept herself hidden as the machines entered the room. The spider bots wandered around the room, looking for Ami.
She listened to the spider bots crawling around the room and kept her composure.
"They're all around me. They don't know I'm in here yet." Ami thought, looking at the bottle in her hand, "But they will now." She thought.
"Hey! Look here!" Ami exclaimed, getting the spider's attention. They all turned and stared at the cylinder, approaching it with caution. They quickly formed a circle surrounding the cylinder. Ami heard them stop crawling and enacted her plan, slowly raising the bottle upwards. The spider bots stared at the bottle coming out of the cylinder and remained cautious.
One of the spiders fired their rope at the bottle, grappling it with the adhesive clay on the end of its rope. Ami watched the clay grip onto the bottle and smirked. She grabbed the rope with her free hand and opened her mouth. She leaned her neck on her shoulder and breathed fire on her arm, getting Backdraft's attention from above.
"Oh?" He said, watching Ami set her arm on fire.
The fire quickly reached her hand and made contact with the rope. In seconds, the fire spread to the rope and zoomed towards the spider bot. The flames reached the spider bot and burned through its armor, causing it to short circuit.
Feeling its force weaken, Ami quickly let go of the bottle and grabbed the rope with both hands. She clenched her jaw and pulled, yanking the dead spider bot into the cylinder with her. Ami then stood up at full height with the dead spider bot in her hands.
The spider bots fired their ropes at Ami, who shielded herself with the dead spider bot. Their ropes grabbed onto the spider's corpse, giving Ami the chance to attack. She opened her mouth and twirled like a ballerina, shooting flames into the spider bots that had circled around her. In seconds, the bots were covered in flames and melted, popping like popcorn.
"Haha. Nice one, Flame Guard." Backdraft praised, watching her performance with excitement. Ami tossed the spider aside and looked in the direction of the hallway. The two robots entered the room, honking as they made their presence known.
"Just in time." She said, looking at the last two robots with a sadistic smile. She jumped out of the barrier and spat a fireball at its legs. The fireball landed on the big robot to her left and burned through the armor on its legs. Its legs melted from the intense heat, causing it to lose balance. It fell to the floor with a loud thud. Ami ducked behind the knocked down robot and let smoke fly out of her mouth, covering the room in a cloud of smoke.
The last robot darted its head around the hall, scanning its surroundings and losing sight of Ami in the smoke. Staring at the cloud of smoke, the robot began wading its arms through it in an attempt to clear it. Hiding a few feet away from the robot, Ami narrowed her eyes and charged towards the robot. She jumped onto the robot's back, causing it to lean forward from the force. Ami held on as the robot spun around in a panic, swinging its arms around to try and make her fall off. Ami kept her grip on the robot's back and grunted, flashing her teeth as smoke flew out of her lips.
"Die." She grunted, opening her mouth and unleashing a vast amount of flames from her mouth. The fire melted through the robot's armor in seconds, giving it time to look down at its chest. The robot watched as fire melted through its armor and reached the front of its chest, burning a hole through it. It blinked a couple times as sparks and oil seeped out of its wound, feeling a loss of power. Ami jumped off the robot as it's eyes went dark, slumping down to the floor. It landed with a thud and caught on fire, causing Ami to quickly inhale its flames.
Ami stared at the robot's corpse and took a breath of air, composing herself in seconds. She deactivated her quirk and shrugged, dropping her shoulders in relaxation.
"All done." Ami said, looking around the hall as the smoke cleared up. A beeping sound came over the intercom as she looked around, getting her attention.
"All enemies defeated." The intercom announced, causing the remaining walls in the obstacle course to fall down to the floor. Ami stretched her muscles and smiled in accomplishment, cracking her knuckles. Slowly, all the walls vanished underground, leaving no trace of the obstacle course left. Nothing remained but her and the many deceased robots she left destroyed. Ami looked at the far end of the Training Area and immediately spotted Backdraft clapping his wrist pipes together in celebration. Ami smiled and let out an excited sigh as she approached Backdraft.
"That was perfect, Flame Guard. Perfect!" Backdraft praised, making Ami giggle.
"Thanks, Backdraft, Sir!" Ami said, running up to Backdraft with a smile.
"Congratulations, Flame Guard. Not only did you exceed all my expectations, you managed to come out of it unscathed. There's not a speck on you." Backdraft said, spreading his arms forward in emphasis. He was right about that. Ami had a smug grin on her lips as she looked at her outfit.
"Thanks. I didn't want to ruin the outfit since it was for free." Ami admitted, looking at her clothes. Since her Hero Costume was damaged from the fight, she had to rely on clothes from the gift shop as a temporary replacement, "I just wish I had my hero costume." Ami said, curving her lips downward slightly. She missed her costume already. Backdraft noticed her emotions and nodded, focusing on lifting her spirits.
"I noticed you're using that whistling technique of yours more often. What did you call it again?" Backdraft asked, placing his wrist pipe below his chin. Ami heard the question and smirked, holding in her laughter.
"A flarrow." She replied, looking extra confident. Backdraft chuckled at the pun, shaking his head in amusement.
"Right." He said, moving on to another topic.
"Welp, despite what Imiter said about remodeling, I appreciate how little damage you caused with your quirk. There's some burn marks here and there but nothing that can't be fixed with a good wash." Backdraft observed, looking at the vast amount of bodies left on the obstacle course grounds behind Ami.
"You're very accurate with you're uh, flarrow." Backdraft praised, nearly forgetting the name of her new move already. Ami nodded in response, rubbing her hands together.
"I wanted to get as much practice with it that I could. I didn't get to use it much in an actual fight. Not even during that night. I think I used it, maybe once, in the Film Section? I shot the Nomu right between its eyes and made a run for it." She mentioned, receiving a nod from Backdraft in understanding. He heard about what she did from Hayato, but it wasn't the complete picture. Hayato had no idea what happened to Ami after they were temporarily separated in the Science Area.
"So that's what happened in the Film Section." Backdraft thought, remembering the damage to the film set after the fact. He returned to the present and looked at Ami's arm, making him curious. He brought his wrist up to his chin and started to circle around Ami.
"Actually, there's something else about your performance that has me curious. That thing you did against the spider bots. That was new, right?" Backdraft asked, pacing around Ami in analysis. Ami tracked Backdraft with her eyes and nodded, solemnly.
"You mean when I set that first spider on fire?" She asked, receiving a nod.
"Yes, that. What was that?" Backdraft asked, nodding in response. He stopped circling for a second and crossed his arms.
"From my vantage point, it looked like all you did was set your hand on fire, but there's gotta be more to it than that, right?" Backdraft questioned, hoping to learn more.
"Mhm." Ami hummed, grinning with excitement.
"Actually it's something I came up with by myself while watching you." She stated, rubbing her hands together.
"Oh? From me?" Backdraft asked, tilting his head slightly in surprise. Ami nodded in response and stared at her hands with a smile, thinking back to the apartment fire.
"Mhm. It was during that apartment fire with the elevator." Ami said, remembering Backdraft's actions in her head. She remembered cheering him on and holding onto him as he struggled to lift the elevator with his quirk.
"I was thinking about how you use your quirk to make water hands and stuff." Ami observed, watching Backdraft shoot water out of his wrist pipes.
"Looking at how you used it, I started to think about how I could emulate that using my flames." Ami explained, remembering when she came up with the idea. She looked at the open palm of her right hand in thought.
"So, I thought, since I can make flames stick anywhere on me when I inhale them, what if I tried the inverse?" Ami explained, slightly confusing Backdraft. She noticed his reaction and frowned slightly, trying to find a way to explain. She looked at the ground and clenched her fist, stepping away from Backdraft. Backdraft watched her carefully as she aimed her open palm towards the floor. Looking at the ground, she narrowed her eyes and activated her quirk.
"It's sorta like this." Ami explained, leaning her head on her right shoulder. She stared down her right arm and positioned it in front of her mouth. She felt the flames from her quirk enter her mouth, causing her to focus. She opened her mouth and let fire seep out of her lips like drool. Backdraft watched Ami as fire fell onto her arm with a questionable stare.
"The flames are sticking. See?" Ami asked, glancing at Backdraft. Backdraft nodded in confirmation, watching the fire wrap around her arm and stay in place. Ami focused her attention on the fire on her arm and narrowed her eyes in focus.
"So, one thing led to another and voila!" Ami stated, blowing fire out of her mouth and onto her arm, the fire quickly reached her hand in a second and ignited. She raised her arm upwards as the flames rocketed out of her hand, flying up into the air. Backdraft watched fire shoot out of Ami's hand with his mouth open in astonishment. Staring at the flames reminded him of his own quirk, making him smile.
"Ha. Wow. Look at that!" Backdraft said, clapping his wrist pipes together. Ami heard his praise and felt her inner fangirl screeching in joy. She kept her composure and inhaled, sending all the flames back into her mouth. She closed her mouth and raised her head up, dropping her arm to the side and looking at Backdraft for his opinion.
"What do you think?" Ami said.
"What do I think? I think that was incredible!" He praised, making her smile, "It's like you're making your hand breathe fire! I'd say you did a great job emulating my quirk!" Backdraft said, congratulating Ami.
"I mean, I can't actually replicate all the things you can do with your water. I don't have true pyrokinesis, after all, but it's the closest I could get to achieving the same idea. And I can only do it on one arm at a time…" Ami said, looking at the floor and muttering. Backdraft shook his head and smirked, laughing a little.
"Ami, it's perfect." Backdraft said, making Ami's heart stop for a split second. She looked at his face with a silent smile, beginning to feel tears in her eyes. Ami sniffled and quickly pulled Backdraft into a hug, making him laugh. He stared at her with a proud expression, happy to see that she had made progress under his internship.
"I almost thought this internship was going to end without me teaching you a thing…" Backdraft whispered, hugging Ami back. He appreciated the hug, however, his smile quickly dropped with realization. He looked at Ami and sighed, letting go.
"Speaking of the end…" Backdraft said in a low tone. Ami pulled away from him and sniffled, noticing the somber expression on his face. She knew immediately what he was implying, making her frown in response.
"...it's time, isn't it?" She asked, placing a hand on her right elbow.
"Unfortunately…" Backdraft nodded, sighing in defeat.
"C'mon. I bet everyone's already at the front entrance." Backdraft said, placing a hand on her shoulder. He listened to her sniffling and frowned. Ami took a minute to compose herself and nodded at Backdraft, standing by his side as they walked out of the Training Area. She kept her frown on as they walked, stopping at the exit. She turned her head back and stared at the Training Area for one last time, watching as drones descended from the ceiling vents and went to work cleaning up all the dead robots.
Quirk Museum - Front Entrance
Ami stood in front of the VIP entrance of the Museum. She stared at the sky with a frown, holding in her emotions as best she could. She couldn't believe a week had passed already. So much time had been lost because of that night, making her sad.
"Thank you for visiting the Quirk Museum, Ami Midoriya. We hope to see you again!" Dormin said, appearing on the wall. Ami's thoughts were interrupted by the machine, causing her to turn around. She looked at Dormin and sighed, smiling lightly at the machine.
"Thank you, Dormin." Ami replied, watching as the robot nodded its head at her and slipped back inside the wall. Ami stared at the wall and kept her faint smile, trying not to frown again. She heard footsteps approaching from behind and heard a cough, getting her attention.
"What's the matter?" He asked, noticing how long she was staring at the wall containing Dormin. Ami turned her head and looked at Backdraft with lowered eyes, clenching her fists slightly in sadness.
"...I don't wanna go yet." She admitted, holding in her tears.
"Oh…." Backdraft said, sighing sadly in agreement.
"I know its hard. I don't want you to go, either, Midoriya. But, it's time you returned to UA." Backdraft said, placing his hand on her shoulder.
"I know. It's just…We lost so much time. We really only had three days out of the seven." Ami pointed out, receiving a nod.
"That may be true, but think about all you've accomplished in that time. You've improved so much with your quirk in that small window of time. Even came up with new moves!" Backdraft pointed out, making Ami nod in agreement.
"Yeah…" She agreed, admitting he was right.
"Let's not forget the apartment fire, either. You're an excellent planner, Midoriya. It was your idea that got those people evacuated. I might not have come up with it in time without you." Backdraft admitted, cheering Ami up with his words.
"Thanks…" She smiled lightly, feeling her mood brighten. Backdraft looked her square in the eye with a solemn expression, getting her full attention.
"And about that night…I'm sorry for leaving you here, Midoriya. I should have stayed behind and made sure you were safe. Because of that failure, that monster nearly killed you. Forgive me." Backdraft said, getting on his knees. Ami blushed and flailed her arms around in response, feeling embarrassed.
"I forgive you, Backdraft, Sir. You don't have to blame yourself for what happened. You only did what you thought was right." Ami said, bowing her head in respect. Backdraft listened to her words and stood up, placing his wrist on her shoulder.
"...Hmph." He smiled, impressed by her response, "You're going to be an amazing rescue hero, Flame Guard." Backdraft said with absolute certainty. Ami smiled back and hugged Backdraft for the last time.
"Thank you, Backdraft, Sir." Ami said.
"I'll miss you." Ami said, holding onto Backdraft for a second time. Backdraft's smile deflated from her words, feeling his eye start to water. She was only going back to UA, yet it felt like he was shipping her to war. He took a deep breath and controlled his heart, looking down at Ami with sympathy.
"Oh, Ami. I'll miss you, too. But this isn't goodbye. My agency's still at Musutafu, remember? I'm sure we'll run into each other from time-to-time." Backdraft said, reminding her of his agency. She looked up at Backdraft and felt her face light up with relief.
"Will I be able to intern with you again someday?" She asked, causing Backdraft to go silent for a split second. The thought had crossed his mind already. After everything that happened, and receiving punishment from Hosu's Police Chief, he wasn't sure if he was cut out to train the next generation yet.
"...Uhm." He said, rubbing his head softly with his wrist pipe, "Hehe. I don't know about interning, but…we'll have to wait and see." Backdraft answered, getting a confused look from Ami. She shrugged and nodded, letting go of Backdraft with a smile. She sniffled and kept her tears inside, feeling her composure return. Backdraft looked at her smile and smiled back in return.
"Advance your career, Flame Guard. Get stronger. Whenever we see each other again, always remember my offer still stands. You'll always be welcome to join my Agency, should you wish." Backdraft said, tipping his hat in respect.
"Thank you, Backdraft…Thank you so much for letting me intern with you." Ami said, bowing respectfully.
"You're welcome, Flame Guard." Backdraft replied, bowing in return.
"Ami!" Hayato shouted, getting Ami's attention. She turned around and stared at the path, watching Hayato run towards her with his costume flowing in the wind.
"Master Ishida! Wait for me!" Thane shouted, running behind Hayato with sweat dripping down his face.
"Hayato!" Ami said, watching Hayato as he came to a stop three feet in front of her. He panted in exhaustion, looking at Ami with a sad frown.
"Looks like we got here in time." Thane said, approaching the two out of breath.
"Greetings, Miss Midoriya. Hayato was hoping to catch you in time before the bus arrived." Thane explained, receiving a nod from Ami in understanding.
"Hey, Spark Plug." Ami said, crouching down to Hayato's height. Hayato looked at the floor with hands behind his cape, kicking the dirt in sadness.
"I can't believe you have to go already…" Hayato said in sadness, causing Ami to frown.
"Can't you stay a little bit longer?" He asked, bringing his hands forward and clasped together. Ami looked at his gloveless hands and grabbed hold of them with her own, surprising Hayato. He looked at her hands on his gloveless hands and felt his heart skip. He quickly remembered his quirk wasn't messed up anymore. Ami wouldn't get hurt by him anymore. He calmed down and looked at the sympathetic smile on her face.
"I'd love to, Hayato, but I can't. I have to go back to UA." Ami said, receiving a small nod, "I've still got plenty to learn there." She said, rubbing his hands. Hayato nodded slowly in understanding, feeling his eyes water.
"Okay…" Hayato said, staring at Ami's hands with a frown.
"It was nice meeting you, Hayato. And you're parents, too." Ami said, causing Hayato to look at Ami in surprise.
"My parents?" Hayato questioned, temporarily forgetting everything. He then remembered something important, making him smile joyfully.
"Ami, I just remembered! My parents! They're not going to work anymore. They wanna spend more time with me!"
"That's great, Hayato." Ami said, a little confused by his wording. She wondered if that meant they quit their jobs until she heard a cough from Thane.
"Well, I wouldn't say they're not working anymore, Master Ishida. But they are taking more time off for the foreseeable future. It'll be good to have the family all together again." Thane explained, receiving a nod from Ami in understanding. The sound of a bus engine roared over the hill, coming into view from behind the parked limousine. Ami peered over Hayato and Thane, noticing her bus to the train depot was approaching.
"Here it comes, Midoriya. The bus is here." Backdraft stated.
"Already, huh?" Ami said, frowning.
"Oop-" she said, getting surprise hugged by Hayato. Ami held Hayato in her arms and smiled, hearing his sniffling on her shoulder.
"Will I ever see you again?" Hayato asked.
"Of course you will, Silly." Ami giggled, patting him on the shoulder. She let go of Hayato and separated, staring at the tears in his eyes.
"If not, then you can always send me a letter." She said, causing Hayato to raise his eyes.
"Really?" He questioned, feeling his heart beat faster.
"Mhm." Ami nodded, causing Hayato to burst with excitement. The tears in his eyes quickly vanished as excitement overwhelmed his senses.
"Okay. I'll send one every month! And I'll tell you everything about my life!" Hayato said, getting ahead of himself. Ami listened to everything he said he write about in his letters and giggled.
"I'll look forward to reading them." She said, rubbing his head with her hand. Ami pulled Hayato into another hug. Instead of a sad hug, it was a joyful one.
"Thank you, Ami. Thank you! I'll miss you. I wish you were my big sister." Hayato said, holding onto Ami with happiness. Ami heard the wish and giggled, grinning widely in acceptance.
"Aw. I wish you were my little brother, too. Then you'd have a big brother, too." Ami said, reminding Hayato of her brother.
"Hehe." He laughed, thinking about how cool it would be to have older twin siblings.
"Here it is." Backdraft said, getting Ami's attention. Hayato pulled away from Ami and looked at Backdraft with Ami. Ami stared at the road and saw the bus had come to a stop, making her sigh in acceptance.
"Welp, it's time." Ami sighed, looking at Hayato.
"Thanks for coming, Spark Plug. Keep practicing with your quirk for me." She smirked.
"I will! I'll practice everyday! And I'll tell you about it with every letter!" Hayato exclaimed.
"Mhm. Make sure you stay focused and keep your grades up, Hayato. And, who knows, by the time you're in UA, you could be interning with me." She winked, making Hayato jump in the air with excitement.
"I won't let you down, Ami. I'll be a hero just like you!" Hayato exclaimed.
"That's the spirit, Spark Plug." Ami said, going for the high five. Hayato took it and gave Ami the ultimate high five.
"Okay. I'm ready." Ami said, staring at the bus. She stood up to full height and took a deep breath, advancing towards the bus. Ami could hear Hayato shouting words at her in goodbye, making her smile on her way to the bus. She stood in front of the steps and looked back at the front entrance with a smile. She stared at Backdraft and waved goodbye, followed by Hayato and Thane. She waved goodbye at them and noticed three figures staring at her inside the Museum. She narrowed her eyes and saw Imiter, Misaki, and Nashorn, waving goodbye at her. The giant hero was easy to spot in the entrance. She looked at the three and waved goodbye, noticing there was someone in this group that was missing.
"Wyvern isn't here?" She thought, keeping up her smile and waving. She felt a little disappointed by his absence, wondering if this was how he'd mess with her one last time. She shrugged the thought aside and turned around, staring at the bus door. She sighed and stepped inside, looking at the available seats. The bus was mostly empty with only four people seated. In the very back, she spotted a man holding up a newspaper and saw news related to Hosu on it. She quickly walked down the aisle and took a seat in the middle of the bus. She sat down in relaxation, staring out at the Museum through the window.
"Goodbye." Ami whispered, waving one last time through the window. The bus door closed and began to move, causing her to close her eyes with a smile. In the back of the bus, a pair of eyes looked at her above the newspaper. He closed the newspaper and threw it to the side, standing up out of his seat.
Ami heard footsteps on the bus and thought nothing of it until she heard them take a seat right next to her. She kept her eyes closed as she contemplated the situation. Who is sitting next to her?
"Hey, Ames." Wyvern said, causing Ami to open her eyes.
"Hm?" Ami hummed, looking at the seat to her left, "Wyvern?" She whispered, caught off guard by his appearance. He held on to a railing as he relaxed in the seat, wearing his full hero costume. Once again, the other three passengers didn't seem to notice the hero in the bus with them.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, raising her eyebrows in surprise.
"What? Heroes can't take transit?" Wyvern questioned, confusing Ami.
"I thought you were at the Museum." She said, making him scoff.
"You didn't think I'd let you leave without saying goodbye, right?" Wyvern asked, receiving a shrug from Ami in response.
"Uh…yeah." Ami admitted, making Wyvern scoff.
"Good to know you think so little of me." He said, shaking his head, "So, you're taking this bus to the train? He asked, receiving a nod.
"Uh huh." Ami nodded, looking at Wyvern in confusion.
"What about you?" She asked, raising her eyebrow.
"Well, after this bus reaches the train depot, it's a straight shot to the airport." Wyvern said, shrugging his shoulders.
"The airport?" Ami thought.
"You're leaving?" She asked.
"Mhm. Heading back home." Wyvern said, stretching his neck.
"But what about…" Ami said, stopping herself momentarily, "What about the investigation?" She asked in a quiet whisper.
"Relax, I'm still in it. But the case belongs in the police's hands now. Trust me, it's better they have it than the Health Syndicate. Maybe now, things'll get done faster." Wyvern stated.
"Okay. So, you're going back to Okinawa?" Ami asked.
"Yup. I've spent enough time in this Museum already. I think I deserve some vacation time after this crazy week." Wyvern stated, stretching his arms out. He placed them behind his neck and leaned on them, relaxing in his seat.
"Yeah..." Ami said, nodding in agreement. This week was in fact crazy.
"I just wish I didn't lose out on two whole days." Ami pouted, getting a scoff from the stoic hero.
"Tsk. Even if you did, it's not like you'd be able to patrol. Not since your hero costume got damaged." Wyvern pointed out, making Ami sigh in disappointment.
"Yeah. But still…" Ami said, knowing he was right. Without her hero costume, fighting crime in public would be a risk.
"Besides, you went through that obstacle course just fine without it." Wyvern stated, catching Ami by surprise.
"So, you saw that?" She asked.
"Well, the choices were either, do nothing, watch the news, or watch you through the security cameras." Wyvern said, closing his eyes in relaxation. He put his left hand down and reached into his pocket, reminding himself of the metal object in his possession.
"By the way, catch." He said, flicking the object out of his hands and into the air.
"Huh?" Ami said, looking up at the object flying up in the air. She watched begin to fall and quickly caught it, allowing her to see what she caught.
"Hey, this is my lighter." Ami said, looking at Wyvern with a smile.
"Mhm. Snatched it from your costume before it got shipped back to UA. Figured you'd want it." Wyvern said, making Ami smile in appreciation.
"Thanks." Ami said, happy to hold her lighter in her hands. She thought about Wyvern's words a little more and looked at him with narrowed eyes, "Hey, wait a minute. You had my lighter on you this whole time?" She questioned.
"Mhm." Wyvern hummed, chuckling with his mouth closed. Ami shook her head in defeat and stared at her lighter. She flicked it on-and-off in the seat, wishing she could eat the flames already.
"I could've used this this morning." Ami said, making Wyvern laugh out loud.
"Yeah, aren't I fun?" Wyvern asked, making Ami roll her eyes and flare her nostrils in unamusement. The rest of the trip was mostly quiet. Wyvern kept his eyes closed the whole way to the train station, getting very comfortable in his seat. It wasn't too long till the bus driver spoke on a loud speaker, getting everyone's attention.
"Attention! We've now arrived at Hosu Station!"
"Here already, huh?" Wyvern asked, opening his eyes. People inside the bus stood up and headed towards the exits. Ami did the same and headed towards the exit with Wyvern right behind her. When it was just the bus driver and Wyvern left inside, he stood at the door and leaned on it.
"Welp. I'll miss ya, Ames." Wyvern said, leaning on the doorframe with his goggles on.
"Will I ever see you again?" Ami asked, looking at Wyvern curiously.
"Of course. I still gotta pay you back for everything you did at the Museum. I'll come up with something." Wyvern smirked, making Ami frown.
"It won't attack me, will it?" She asked.
"Yeah, I'll give you a puppy or something. You're not allergic, right?" Wyvern asked, receiving a disapproving glare from Ami. She could tell he wasn't being serious, making him scoff.
"Heh. Yeah, I'm not doing that." Wyvern said, shaking his head.
"Tell you what, lemme get back to you on that. I'll send it through the mail." Wyvern stated, receiving a nod from Ami. The bus driver shifted gears, making the bus squeak. Wyvern could tell the bus driver was getting impatient. He waved his hand at the driver in response.
"Yeah, yeah, I hear ya." Wyvern said, looking at Ami.
"See ya, Midoriya." Wyvern said, nodding at Ami with a stoic expression. Ami smirked deviously and nodded back at him.
"See ya, Mr. Taylor. Bye, Fuego." Ami said, bowing her head. Wyvern smirked in response, taking a step back. The bus door closed in front of him. Ami could see the smirk on Wyvern's face through the glass and waved goodbye. Ami watched the bus leave the station and rolled her eyes, turning around and facing the train. She arrived just in time for the next train to Musutafu. She quickly went through security and stepped inside the train with a sigh. The day felt like it was over already even though it was only the afternoon. She took a seat on the train and closed her eyes, relaxing in her seat. Her internship with Backdraft was over. Now, it was time for Ami to head back to UA.
Location Unknown
Two men sat across each other in a bar. For several minutes now, one of them played a video on their phone for the other to watch. An old heavy-set man with an eyepatch watched the video in a cold sweat. The video in question was about the recently arrested Hero Killer. It went over his life and goals, giving the man a nervous feeling in his stomach. As the video reached its end, he could see the moment leading to Stain's arrest. The Hero Killer gave one heck of a final speech as he succumbed to injuries while standing up.
"All Might is worthy!" Stain shouted, making the man gasp.
"This keeps getting uploaded and immediately taken down online. But they can't stop it." The other man said, smiling in amusement.
"It's not hard to see. This guy is really stirring something. From villains with countless convictions, to felons on the run, all the major players, including me, are watching." He said, smoking a cigarette. The excitement in his eyes was obscured by the reflection of light in his glasses.
"It's infectious. Do you feel it?" He asked, moving his head down slightly. The nervous man stared into the man's eyes with his mouth open in surprise.
"I don't think the heroes realize what's happening." The man smirked. Somewhere far away in an alleyway, a body leaned on a wall. A huge blood splatter was all over the wall the man leaned on. His head was slumped to the floor, appearing lifeless.
"Hehehe…" A blonde girl's voice giggled, playing around with a bloody knife in her hand.
Another far away location, a lone figure stood in the dark forest. His eyes glowed a brilliant red as fog swirled around him. He smiled sadistically as he listened to a radio talk about the Hero Killer.
"The evil that was once quiet and scattered now has a rallying cry that's calling out to it." The man said.
Somewhere else, a toxic cloud of purple gas swirled around a young man wearing a gas mask. At the same time, inside a rusted old building, a man covered in reptilian scales walked down the empty halls. His clothing bore a striking resemblance to the Hero Killer.
"Individual criminals are seeking out the organization that the Hero Killer Stain was connected to." The man said.
In an alleyway, a man covered in burns from the bottom of his jaw all the way up to the back of his head walked down the alley in silence. There was a dead stare in his eyes as he walked down the alley, keeping his hands inside his pockets.
Underneath a bridge somewhere, near the edge of the water, a woman dressed in a black hoodie chomped down on her prey. Her skin was glossy like a fish and above her head was a small appendage that glowed at the tip. She listened to the radio on the floor as she chewed through flesh and bone with her razor sharp teeth.
"They're all headed to the League of Villains." The man said, smiling at the thought.
Somewhere closeby, Kazan entered an abandoned warehouse in a trench coat that covered his entire body. He stared at the familiar space and kept a blank expression, refusing to be distracted by memories. There was only one reason why he was here. He stepped inside and made his way to the middle of the warehouse. He looked at the floor in silence, remembering the right spot. He opened up his coat and pulled out a sledgehammer. He fell to his knees and slammed the hammer into the ground, breaking through the concrete. He stared at the shattered concrete floor and smirked when he saw what was buried underneath. He reached his hand into the floor, pulling out a black duffle bag with a ridiculously large wad of cash.
"Perfect." Kazan whispered, chuckling at his good fortune. The bag he buried months ago was still safe.
In a dark room, a man wearing a metal mask drank a bottle and emptied it in one fell swoop. He stared at his computer screen, listening to some bad content. A notification sound appeared from his computer, getting his attention. He read the notification and smiled, snapping his fingers to alert his men. They were dressed in black and armed to the teeth with guns. The money was received. Their anonymous donor pulled through after all. All the masked man had to do was meet the man in charge.
Ishida Mansion
"Dinner is served." Thane said, putting the dishes on the table. The Ishida's licked their lips and looked at Thane with hungry smiles.
"Thanks, Thane." The Ishida's said in unison. Thane smiled and bowed his head in respect.
"My pleasure." Thane said, returning to the kitchen. Hayato's parents dug into dinner and started eating. Hayato did the same but his mind was also preoccupied with thoughts. They were all centered around Ami. Specifically their last conversation.
"I wish you were my big sister." Hayato said, repeating in his mind.
"Aw. I wish you were my little brother, too. Then you'd have a big brother, too." Ami said, making Hayato smile at his dinner plate. He listened to her words repeat several times in his head. There was something about it that made him super excited. He thought about the reason for that excitement and slowly came to a conclusion.
"Little…" Hayato thought, focusing on that part of Ami's words. A genius idea formed in his mind at that moment, bringing him joy.
"That's it!" Hayato exclaimed, internally.
"Hey, Mom. Dad." Hayato asked, getting his parents attention. His mom looked at him first while his dad kept eating the food in his plate.
"What is it, Honey?" Mrs. Ishida asked, making Hayato smile. Now was the perfect chance to ask the greatest idea he's ever had.
"Can I have a sister?" Hayato asked, causing Mrs. Ishida's eyes to widen in surprise.
"Pfft!" Mr. Ishida said, spitting out his food in shock.
Author's Notes:
Hello, everyone! With this chapter released. Today marks the end of the Internship arc. We're now only a few chapters away from ending season 2!
This chapter was a surprisingly tough one to write. I had to shorten things and out right replace some parts with others. It was quickly becoming a mess. That said, I'm satisfied with how it is now. I hope. There may be an inconsistency somewhere in there that my brain refuses to see. I hope not though. Anyways, not much that I feel needs to be said about the chapter so I'll try and keep it short.
In this chapter, we learn the cause of Hayato's quirk issue. Yes, it was going to be a tumor all along. I set it up as one when I mentioned in an earlier chapter that Hayato's power used to work. I don't think the show or manga ever touched on disease in the My Hero Academia world, so, I wanted to take a shot at it with my interpretation. We don't know how quirks work in the body, but if they are a part of a person's inner being then you could therefore conclude that it can be affected by disease.
Like I said, I don't think quirk diseases have ever been brought up before. If I'm wrong, tell me cuz I don't remember. I actually did spend some time researching diseases when I was looking for inspiration and I learned that a disease can hide from x rays and stuff. I thought that was weird so I put it in here.
Next is Ami's reunion with Izuku and Iida. There was originally a lot more arguing but it really didn't work the way I wanted it so it had to be cut. Manual was also there if you didn't realize. I didn't give him lines because he didn't serve a purpose. I just needed Iida to be there for Ami's awakening.
Iida begged Ami for forgiveness and she accepted his apology. I didn't want what happened to ruin friendships so I had Ami forgive Iida. She's still gonna be a little mad but I didn't want to cause a needless rift in the story like that. Tell me what you think about the scene in reviews.
Now, I know this might cause some disappointment but Wyvern and Izuku didn't have any interaction. I mainly couldn't think of anything that would stick out. And I didnt want it to just be a repeat of several different scenes. I mean, how many times can I include a, "By the way what's your quirk called again?" Into the story without it getting old?
Next, Backdraft and Wyvern's last conversation. We learned a lot of things about Wyvern in this chapter. Yes, Wyvern went to UA High and got himself kicked out. Will I ever explain that now that the arc is over? Yes and no. Yes, Wyvern's time at UA may be brought up again someday but not that much. And no, because it's not important to the main story.
At last, I finally reveal his full name to be Tatsuichiro Taylor. I'm surprised no one asked me if Wyvern's name was Tatsu since I made Fuego refer to him as Tatsu several times in the story. But whatevs.
Will Wyvern appear in the future? Yes. The near future actually. Wyvern will make his final appearance before the season ends. You'll see how when we get there. As for everyone else? Yes, there times will come in the near future.
Honestly, I'm glad the reception to Wyvern has been so positive. I don't think I've gotten a single complaint about him. Same for Hayato, Nashorn, and Imiter. I feared for a time that people would find Hayato annoying but, thankfully, I didn't see that from anyone. Thanks for enjoying the original characters in my story.
Skipping ahead to the end, we finish the chapter with the only actual episode content. With Ravage down, Kazan takes up the reigns. His role in the series from this point on will be expanded. He'll be playing a big role in a future event next season. You can probably guess what that is. In this section of the story, I finally got to write about the League of Villains cast members. There are two new villains in that short montage. As a hint for what's to come, I'll tell you this. One is an original character and the other isn't.
Now with all that out of the way we reach the end of the chapter. Thank you once again for enjoying the Museum. Sadly, this is the last time we'll be visiting the Museum. I hope everyone liked it despite its issues with descriptions. I will work on improving that side of the story in the future.
Focusing back on Ami, I introduced a new move for her in this chapter. It's not a groundbreaking new move, but its something that I wanted to include to give her more variety and versatility. Ami does not have pyrokinesis. She's never going to have flame manipulation to the level of Endeavor and Todoroki. She's a firebreather first and foremost. She's also never going to hold an elevator with her flames like Backdraft can with his water and she'll never make objects with her fire, either. In short, her new move is pretty simple. She drools on her arm and lights her hand on fire and shoots flames out using her hand as a guide.
Her flamethrower is like a shotgun. Her fireball is like a grenade. Her flarrow is like a small gun. Her new move is like a rifle. For now, I'm calling it the Flame Cannon.
Alright, that's about everything I wanted to say about the chapter. Now to explain some other things. You're probably wondering how there could only be a few chapters left in season 2 when there's 7 episodes I haven't covered yet? This is an actually an easy question. I'm skipping episodes. Of the 7 episodes, there are 3 that don't matter and 4 that do. You'll see how it works in the next chapter.
Be sure to tell me what you think about the chapter in your reviews. If you see a mistake like spelling or grammar be sure to let me know. If you spot a continuity error or a plothole please tell me. That said, thanks for reading and have a good day! This may be the only chapter coming out for October so have a happy Halloween!

All Might tells the twins the truth about One For All.
