The women chatted and laughed, primarily in Spanish as they got to know one another. Rio had politely kidnapped Gunner and had him on her lap, tugging at her braid.
Miles listened from his room. Good, everything seemed to be going just dandy. At least now mom would stop being so persistent in her demands as to who Miles was hanging out with and what was this older woman in his life. Moms had some weird 6th sense.
"You know the teens all hang out together and someone has to be the parent," Jessica laughed, "So somehow I ended up with, what? Six kids and one baby?"
"Don't forget to count the men in your life. We have to take care of them too," Rio nodded.
"Oh, I can't even get started on the men. Husband and friends alike," she laughed.
With them chatting away Miles took the time to go patrol, "Hey Mami, I'm going to step out, I'll be back soon. Bye Jess."
"Don't be back too late," Rio warned, "Stay out of trouble."
"Always."
She watched her boy go off, bouncing the baby, "Do they ever listen?"
"I don't have too many high hopes this one will," Jess playfully squeezed her son's thigh.

Miles sighed, flying high over the streets. It was surprisingly calm, so he just took in the sites and formulated a plan for when he got back to HQ. Maybe he could even ask his parents if he could invite his friends over. Though his room was on the small side it could fit all of them. It fit 5 people before just fine.
Maybe his parents would let him have a videogame day, that would be cool. Alternatively, his dad had suggested a sip and draw. With perfectly age appropriate drinks of course. So that could work too.
As he thought on the best way to entertain his friends at home there was small crime afoot. He could deal with it, a few gang bangers. Easy stuff.
Shortly after tying them up he got a text from Mami, telling him it was time to come home and get ready for dinner.
"Really?" He checked the time on his phone. No way that much time passed. Would you look at that, a quarter past six. They do say time flies when you're having fun.

"How was your visit?" Jefferson asked. He had only got to say a passing hello to Jess as she was leaving.
"She's very lovely, we've already made shopping plans and talked about taking the kids on a field trip later."
"Field trip where?" Miles looked over, grabbing a plate.
"We have a few ideas on the table. All of which I'm sure you'll enjoy," she smiled. Instead of reassuring him it made him nervous.
"You're not talking about a petting zoo, are you?"
"That may or may not have been one of our ideas," she began portioning out her husband and son's food.
"You're not still afraid of goats, are you?" Jeff teased his boy, gently slapping him on the back.
"It was about to charge and no I'm not!" Miles blushed, hurrying to the table with his plate.
His parents laughed at his embarrassment before talking between themselves. They joined him at the table shortly.
"How have things been with your little girlfriend? We haven't seen her in a while," Jeff asked.
"She's ok," the teen shrugged, "I told you she was there when Jess had us make caramel apples."
"Jess has some beautiful hair, by the way," Rio commented, "And the cutest little baby boy!" she gushed, thinking about Gunner, "He reminds me of when Miles was little, with that tuft of curls on his head."
The cop could feel himself sweating at the mention of baby talk, "What do you mean? He's still pretty little," that comment wasn't met with a great reception from his son, but it did seem to appease his wife. So unfortunately, as usual, Miles just had to be a casualty.
"That's true," she smiled at her boy, "That reminds me, I washed Bodega, so he's nice and fresh. You need to stop letting him go so long between baths."
"He doesn't go too many places, so he shouldn't need baths too often," he told her, though not unappreciative.
"Well, you seem to constantly be going somewhere, so the same can't be said for you," she remarked, "You smell like outside."
"I mean, I just came from outside," he never understood if that was meant to be an insult or not.
"Means you need a bath, and to eat your string beans," she pointed with her fork.
"Dad isn't eating his."
"I'm saving mine for last," Jeff smiled, getting a glare from Rio, "They're meant to be savored."
"You, your son and anything green," she shook her head, "Well you get him ready for bed. Since I made dinner and am also doing the dishes. Unless you want to do the dishes."
"I'll get him cleaned up, don't worry."
"Why do I have to go to bed so early?" Miles complained.
She scoffed, "If you two have me at this table all night waiting for you to finish your vegetables like last time, then I'm sure it will be time for bed when you're done."
"But Mami, that doesn't count! Lima beans are gross!" He stuck his tongue out.
"Finish eating if you plan on watching your show with daddy and me," she snapped her fingers.
He sighed, him and his dad sharing a look as they slowly ate the beans.

"I was checking google earlier, they're having a movie marathon for that series you like. What do you think about us going to that when it comes out? A nice day for you and me?" Jeff asked.
"Yeah, dad, that would be super cool," Miles gave him a smile.
"Great," he pat his son's head, causing the shower cap to release a crinkling noise, "Hand check," he looked at Miles' fingers, "Ok, we are at prune status. What scent are we using tonight?"
"Can I have the orange mango?"
"That's your favorite, huh?" he popped open the bottle, pouring it in the towel and beginning to scrub him, "I'm going to take you to the doctor, make sure there isn't a medical reason you keep having these bruises."
"It's not that, just things get rough at gym," he closed his eyes as his dad washed his neck.
"How rough are they? You seem like you have a new bruise every week."
"We've been doing a lot of football practice."
He considered his son's frame, "Yeah, that will probably do it."

With his bath taken care of and him dressed in his fox print pajamas, Miles was able to enjoy a few shows with his parents before Dad threw him over his shoulder and carried him to bed.
"We can't watch one more episode? Things were getting good?" the teen complained.
"Four episodes is more than enough, nene," Rio followed behind him.
"But five wouldn't have been terrible either."
"There will never be enough episodes, but it's time for you to get some sleep," Jeff gently tossed him into bed.
"Here's your water," Mami set the sippy cup on his nightstand, "So that means that I shouldn't see you out of bed in an hour, because you were thirsty," she tucked him into his blankets, "Good night mijo, good night Bodega," she gave both her son and his stuffed kitty a kiss.
"Night son," Jeff put his son's satin cap on, before giving him a kiss on the forehead.
"Ugh, it's too early," he complained, hugging the cat, "Good night."
