Chapter 64
Hey everyone! Here's the next chapter for ya! Let me know what you think! Enjoy :)
"What the hell did she mean by that?" Regina asked. "What did you do to her?"
Hanna shook her head. "I…I didn't do anything."
"Then why would she say that?"
"She…she's lying. She's the Wicked Witch. You can't trust her," Hanna said. If they knew Zelena was telling the truth, then her parents would find out she's been lying to them this whole time. That couldn't happen.
"Well something obviously happened to her," Regina answered back
"I don't know!"
"I've seen my sister lie dozens of times and she wasn't lying just now."
"Regina she…she is. I…"
Regina raised her eyebrows at the young girl. "Hanna I know you know something."
Hanna could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. She was trying to keep Emma's secrets hidden, but she wasn't sure how much longer she could keep up this charade. She looked to her dad. "Daddy, I promise I don't know."
"Hanna are you sure?" David wanted to believe her, but something felt off.
Hanna nodded.
David sighed. He didn't know what to believe.
"I'm really hungry now. Can…can we go get something to eat. Please?" Hanna gave her dad the saddest look she could muster.
"Not until you answer some questions," Regina told her.
"Daddy please…" Hanna tried once more.
"Hanna, look at me," Snow grabbed Hanna by the shoulders and turned her so she was facing her. "Did you get those onion rings for Emma?" Snow asked.
"Mom I…" Hanna shook her head.
Snow raised her eyebrows at her daughter. "Do not lie to me, Hanna."
Hanna dropped her head. She couldn't take it anymore. "Yes," she mumbled.
"What was that?" Snow asked.
Hanna looked up at her mom. "I got the onion rings for Emma."
"Where did you get them? What did Emma do to them?" Regina asked.
Hanna shrugged. "I just poofed some to Emma's from Granny's."
David crossed his arms. "So you stole the onion rings?"
"I…" Hanna didn't even think about that. She did technically steal them. It wasn't like she poofed money into the cash register too.
Regina shook her head. "You knew Emma broke Zelena out of the hospital and cursed her and you didn't say anything?"
"Emma just handed her the onion rings. She didn't do anything to them. Then all they did was talk and Emma put her back!"
"Emma didn't give you any indication that she had done something to Zelena?" Snow asked.
Hanna looked down, avoiding her mother's gaze. She knew Emma had done something.
"That's what I thought," Snow sighed.
"What else have you been keeping from us?" David asked.
Hanna just stood there. She didn't know what to say.
"I'm going to ask you this one more time, Hanna." Snow put her hands on either side of Hanna's face. "Did you know about the sword and Rumple being in Emma's basement before we did?"
Hanna nodded her head.
"Did you know Emma sent Merida to put an arrow through my heart?" Belle asked her. Thinking if Hanna knew about the sword and Rumple, then she probably knew about the other part of Emma's plan.
Hana gulped. "Yes."
"Hanna!" David raised his eyebrows at her. "Belle could have been seriously hurt!"
"But she wasn't," Hanna shook her head. "Emma said it would work out like she planned and it did!"
"That doesn't matter, Hanna" Snow told her. "You should have come to us straight away."
"I couldn't!" Hanna protested.
"And why not?" David asked.
"Emma has to do all of this. She has a reason. She hasn't gone as dark as you all think!"
"Hanna she's ripped out hearts, kidnapped Gold, put a hit out on Belle, and fast forwarded Zelena's pregnancy with magic onion rings. If that's not dark I don't know what is!" Regina told her.
"Emma has her reasons, and this is all going to be over soon!"
"How? How is this all going to be over soon?" Snow asked.
"What is Emma going to do with the sword?" David added.
"Dad, I don't know what Emma wants to do with it."
"It doesn't have anything to do with the baby?" Snow asked her.
"What do you mean the baby?" Regina asked.
Everyone was so caught up with Hanna they forgot to tell Regina what they learned.
"I found the spell to destroy light magic in Merlin's spell book. Emma needs the cries of a newborn child to enact it," Belle told her.
"Well I'm not going to let that happen." Regina left and went into the room to protect Robin's child.
Snow and David turned their attention back to Hanna.
"What does your sister want with the baby, Hanna?" Snow tried again.
"Mom, I don't know."
"And how are we suppose to believe you? You've don't nothing but lie to us for days!" David said.
"But I'm not lying this time! I really don't know what she's doing with the sword! I don't know what Emma wants with the baby! She never actually told me anything!"
Snow shook her head. "I don't know if we can trust you, Hanna."
"Mom I…"
Before Hanna could say anymore, Regina came bursting through the delivery room doors. "She took her!"
"Emma took the baby?" David asked.
"No. She took Zelena."
"Zelena?" Snow furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "What does she want with her?"
"I can go find out!" Hanna offered. Maybe she could finally get Emma to tell her what she's been planning.
"Oh no," David grabbed Hanna by the arm. "You're not going anywhere."
"I can get her to tell me! I know I can!"
"No Hanna," Snow insisted.
"Mom, she was about to tell me before you came to get me the other night! I know she was! If I could just talk to her…"
"Hanna we said no!" David said, not letting go of the grip he had on her arm.
Hanna looked between her parents. She could tell they were determined to keep her here, but that wasn't an option. Hanna had to go. "I'm sorry, but I have to."
Snow knew exactly what her daughter was about to do. "Hanna don't you even think about…"
Hanna didn't let her mom finish her sentence before she poofed herself away.
Hanna was back with Emma in her basement. This time Killian and Zelena were there too, and they were both in chains.
"Oh great the Dark One's mini me," Zelena rolled her eyes. "Here to give me some more onion rings?"
Hanna ignored the witch and looked up at her sister. "Emma what the hell are you doing?"
"Your sister was just about to tell us of her plans," Killian told Hanna.
"I'm trying to destroy dark magic," Emma said. "The dark magic that's inside of me."
"Why keep it all a secret then?" Killian asked.
"Because I knew you would never let me do what was necessary to get the job done."
"And that's where Zelena comes in?" Hanna asked.
"Yes. The darkness needs to be contained in a vessel." "Zelena?"
"Yes."
Hanna shook her head. "Emma what are you going to do?"
"What needs to be done Hanna. I'm going to cut her down with Excalibur's enchanted blade and the darkness will be vanquished forever."
"So that's what the onion rings were for? You sped up the pregnancy? To get the baby out of the way?"
"I don't want anyone to get hurt who doesn't have to. There are limits."
"Limits? Emma, you're still talking about murdering someone!" Killian said.
"She killed Neal and Marian. Given time she'll kill again."
"You don't have to do this Emma," Hanna pleaded. "Merlin can help. That's why we were searching for him back in Camelot. We can still find him."
"Merlin can't help us anymore."
"Why not?"
Emma just poofed away before giving them an answer.
"Hanna get me out of here and we can help her," Killian said.
Hanna knew she could make Killian's chains disappear, but thought maybe she shouldn't. Emma needed him here for a reason. She wasn't going to let Emma murder Zelena. She knew she could talk her out of it. She could convince her to try something else, but she needed to do it alone.
"I'm sorry, Killian," Hanna said before poofing herself to her sister.
Hanna appeared upstairs and found Emma pacing the floor. "Emma would you just stop!" Hanna sent some magic from her hands flying towards her sister. The magic blasted in front of Emma like a wall, causing her pacing to stop.
"Hanna don't!" Emma yelled.
"No you don't!" Hanna yelled right back. "Emma I'm in so much trouble right now. You're making me lie to Mom and Dad, to Henry, to everyone! All I'm trying to do is help you and it's making everything worse! Mom and Dad know I've been lying and everyone is mad at me!
"I never asked you to do any of this!"
"I had to Emma! I had to! You're my sister! I was not going to just sit by and do nothing! You needed my help!"
"I didn't need your help! I didn't need you to do any of this for me!"
"Yes you did! Everything I did…"
"It was just a distraction! You really think I couldn't get that horse where I wanted it or get the damn onion rings myself? You really think as the Dark One I couldn't keep tabs on what Mom, Dad, and Regina were doing this whole time? Because trust me I could."
"Then why did you have me do all those things?"
"I needed you out of the way! You could get around every magic spell cast on this house. I couldn't even poof away from you anymore once you learned how to follow me!"
Hanna thought back to all the things she did for Emma and knew her sister was telling the truth. Emma didn't need her. Not at all.
Emma could see the hurt on Hanna's face. Part of her felt bad, but the other part, the stronger part at the moment, knew she just needed to get all of this done. Once her plan was complete Emma could work on fixing her relationship with Hanna. If the only way to get Hanna to finally leave her alone was to hurt her, then so be it.
"So you see, Hanna? I don't need your help. I never did. There's nothing you can do that I can't do faster and better. The only useful things you could've done was keep my secret and you failed at that too, so why don't you just go."
Hanna took a few deep breaths trying to keep the tears in her eyes from falling. "Emma I can't let you do this to Zelena. It's wrong and you know it."
"Hanna…"
"No! Just listen to me. We can…"
"Stop." Emma turned towards the front door. "Someone's here."
"Who is it?" Hanna ran after Emma onto the porch. She found her parents and Regina standing in front of Emma's house.
"I don't need saving!" Emma yelled at them. "You're going to have to trust me. By the time I'm done with Zelena, you'll all be thanking me especially you, Regina."
"Why would I thank you?"
"You don't remember this, but back in Camelot you helped me remember some things about myself, and now I'm ready to repay the favor. Because deep down, we both know you'll be happier when Zelena is gone."
"Gone? This is not the way Miss Swan and you know it!"
"We're back to 'Miss Swan'?"
"Well start acting like Emma again, and we'll talk."
"I am Emma."
"Emma this isn't you," Snow insisted.
"We can help you find another way," David told her.
"There is no other way."
Snow and David could see the determination in their daughter's eyes. They wouldn't give up trying to find a better way for Emma to get rid of the darkness, but right now they didn't have a solution, and they didn't want Hanna caught up in the middle of all this.
David started walking towards the porch. "Hanna you need to come with us."
Hanna shook her head. "No Dad."
"Hanna right now," David demanded. "You can't stay here. It's too dangerous."
"Dad, I'm not going anywhere and…and you can't make me," Hanna shook her head and started to back away towards the house.
Snow stepped forward and looked directly at her oldest daughter. "Emma."
Hanna looked at her mom, then back to Emma. Hanna knew what their mom wanted. "Emma don't."
"Sorry Han…"
"If you send me away I'll just come back!" Hanna shouted as Emma walked towards her. "You know I'll be able to poof around any spell you put up!"
Emma grabbed ahold of Hanna's wrist. "No you won't."
Hanna looked down and saw the magic blocking cuff. "No…" She felt herself being transported and when she looked up she was right beside her parents. "Emma you can't do this!" Hanna ran forward just as Emma plunged Excalibur into the ground, sending a protection spell around the house. Hanna ran into it and was blasted back.
"Hanna!" Snow and Charming rushed to their daughter's side and picked her up from the ground.
"Are you alright?" David asked.
"You didn't hit your head did you?"
"I'm fine."
"What did Emma tell you?" Regina asked. "What is she going to do to Zelena?"
Hanna sighed and told Regina and her parents everything. She was done keeping her sister's secrets.
Just as Hanna finished telling them what Emma was planning, the protection spell around Emma's house disappeared.
"Something's wrong," Hanna said.
"Emma!" Snow ran towards the house.
Hanna was right behind her.
"I'll check the basement," David said as he came up onto the porch following Hanna.
Regina was right behind him. "I'll get the upstairs."
Snow opened the door and called out for her daughter. "Emma! Emma!"
Regina and David ran upstairs and to the basement while Hanna followed her mom into the living room. They found Emma laying on her couch.
Snow knelt down beside her daughter and took her hands into her own. "Emma, hey. What happened?"
Hanna noticed the cuff on Emma's wrist and could see the devastation her face. She knelt down beside Emma too. "What did they do to you, Em?"
Emma just looked up at her mom and sister, but didn't say a word.
"Come on let's get you up, sweetie." Snow helped Emma sit up. She sat down beside her and continued to hold onto her hand.
Hanna sat down on the other side of her sister. "Are you alright?"
David walked into the room and let out a sigh of relief. "Oh good you found her."
"There you are," Regina said as she too came into the room. "What the hell happened?"
Emma looked up at Regina, but still didn't say a word.
"Emma, it's alright. You can tell us," Snow told her.
Emma looked to her mom and began to tell them everything.
Killian and Zelena escaped from the basement. Killian captured Emma with squid ink, hoping it would force Emma to tell them what she was hiding. Zelena found the dreamcatchers and revealed to Killian what happened in Camelot. Killian was injured by Excalibur. At first, it was just a small cut. Emma easily healed it, but it only seemed that way. A wound made by that blade can't be healed. When Emma started to forge the blades together to rid the darkness from herself, the cut reopened and Killian was going to die. Emma wasn't going to let that happen when she knew there was a way she could save him. Emma could save Killian's life by turning him into a Dark One too. That's why Emma was doing all of this. That's why she was going to put all of the darkness into Zelena and destroy her. Everything she's done since they got back to Storybrooke was to save the man she loved.
Killian was furious at Emma for what she did. He fought to kill a version of the Dark One for most of his life. The last thing he wanted was to be one. He didn't want to be saved…not like that. Now that he knew he was a Dark One though, the evil began to spread inside of him. He has a plan of his own he's going to put into action. Before they left, they took Emma's memories away so she couldn't remember anything about Hook's plan. They were the ones who put the cuff on her wrist too.
Everyone just sat for a few minutes trying to take in everything.
"You turned Hook into a Dark One?" Regina asked, breaking the silence.
"Like I said, it was the only way to save him."
"And you didn't think of the consequences to everyone else?"
"I couldn't just let him die. You can understand that."
"Well yes. But…" Regina sighed. "Now we have a bigger problem."
"I know. I didn't think any of this would happen. I was trying to get rid of the darkness for good. You can't tell me after all Zelena's done to you, your life wouldn't be easier if she were gone. I was doing you a favor."
"Come on," Snow said. "This is premeditated murder, Emma. There had to be another way. You should have come to us."
"And risk losing someone else? I thought the best way to control the darkness was to isolate myself."
"Well we can all clearly see how well that turned out," Regina told her. "Right now we have to clean up this mess."
"No we don't," Snow said. "Give us back our memories. Your dreamcatchers. Regina can access their memories, can't she? We can piece together Hook's plan and stop him."
David came back into the room. He left after Emma told them everything to see if he could find the dreamcatchers Emma said were in the shed. "I'm afraid not. The dreamcatchers are gone."
"What the hell is Captain Dark One up to?" Regina asked. She then headed home to try and come up with a plan.
"You know you could have at least kept your sister out of all of this," Snow said to Emma once Regina left.
"She didn't give me much of a choice," Emma looked over at Hanna.
"You couldn't have done something to stop her?" David asked.
"Believe me. I tried, but she poofed herself around every protection spell I put up and learned how to get to me by magic no matter where I was. There was no keeping her away."
David and Snow both looked over at Hanna and raised their eyebrows at her.
Hanna just looked down, avoiding their gaze.
"You could have told us, Emma." Snow said.
Emma shook her head. "She knew too much."
"Don't worry I didn't even actually help her. Everything I did Emma could have done herself. She was lying to me the whole time," Hanna glared at her sister.
"You gave me no choice Hanna."
"I had to do something Emma! I promised you I'd help get the darkness out of you!"
"And I told you that you didn't have to keep that promise! If you would have just left me alone then maybe…"
"What Emma? Maybe you could have been successful? Successful in murdering someone?"
Snow sighed. "Girls, don't fight."
"Yes!" Emma shouted back at Hanna, ignoring their mom. "Maybe if it weren't for you I would have gotten rid of the darkness! It would have been worth it!"
"It was like you said, Emma. Nothing I did really mattered anyways! You could have done it all. I didn't mess up anything! You did that all on your own!"
"Maybe if you would have stayed downstairs instead of following me like you always do you could have actually helped me for once and stopped Killian and Zelena from escaping!"
Hanna stood up from the couch and threw her hands into the air. "Oh well excuse me for trying to stop you from murdering someone!"
"I didn't need you to stop me!" Emma stood from the couch too and glared down at her sister.
"Alright you two, that's enough." David tried, but the girls just continued to argue.
"I had to do something Emma! I couldn't let you…"
"Couldn't let me? What would you even have done anyways?" Emma took a step closer to Hanna.
"Girls please stop." Snow practically begged.
David went beside Emma and put a hand on her shoulder. "Stop before you say something you regret."
"Fine. I'm done with this conversation anyway," Emma stepped back and waved her hand, trying to send herself away. "Ugh! This stupid thing!" Emma pulled at the cuff on her wrist.
Hanna smirked up at her sister. "See you still can't get away from me no matter how hard you try."
Emma stepped back towards Hanna again. "You are such a little…"
"Alright that's it!" David grabbed ahold of Emma and pulled her away from her sister.
"What Emma? What were you going to say?"
Snow held onto Hanna's arm to keep her from charging towards her sister. "Hanna, your dad and I said to stop and we mean it."
Hanna struggled against her hold. "But Mom…"
"Enough!"
Hanna sighed and just stood there. She watched as her Dad walked Emma upstairs. Her mom didn't release her grip until he came back down.
David sighed. "I got her calmed down and into her bed."
"She's the Dark One, Dad. She doesn't sleep."
"I know that, Hanna, but she needed some space from you, and she needs to relax." He put his hands on her shoulders and guided her towards the front door. "Come on we're going to go home and get some rest. We'll meet at Regina's in the morning and figure out what we're going to do next."
Hanna willingly got into the car with them…not like she had much of a choice in the matter. As they drove to Granny's to pick up Neal, Hanna started to calm down and remembered everything that happened back at the hospital. When she poofed away she thought for sure the next time she saw her parents she would get an earful. She was sure they would still be furious with her about everything. They hadn't even said a word since they left Emma's though. Hanna would have preferred them yell at her rather than have them saying nothing. Her stomach was in knots. She had to say something.
Hanna looked up and made eye contact with her mom in the rearview mirror. "You know I only lied to you because I thought I was helping Emma, right?" Hanna said quietly from the back seat as they pulled up to Granny's.
"I know that, Hanna, but what really scares me is how good you've gotten at lying to me." A few tears fell down Snow's face. She quickly wiped them away and got out of the car to get Neal.
Hanna looked over to her dad. "Dad I…"
David shook his head. "Not now, Hanna."
Hanna sighed and sat back in her seat. She watched as her mom came back and put Neal into the car. Hanna was looking at her Mom, but she wouldn't even make eye contact with her. She just closed the door and went back to the front seat. Hanna leaned over towards her brother. "Hey baby…" Hanna reached out her finger for him to hold. Hanna gave a small smile to the one person who wasn't mad at her.
