Chapter 65
Hey everybody! I want to thank you for all of the kind reviews I've received since I've been back! I appreciate them so much, and I am so glad I still have readers out there! I will be leaving for the beach on Saturday and I'll be gone for a week. The next chapter is started and I'll finish it up as soon as I get back! So we'll just have a small hiatus and then I'll be back to posting chapters again! Also, a reminder to please please give me some one-shot ideas for the missing moments stories :) :)
Let's see if Hanna will get into any trouble in this chapter ;) It took me forever to get this one just right, so I hope it's okay…Enjoy :)
They arrived back at the loft and Hanna tried once more to get her parents to talk to her. "Mom, Dad I…"
"I'm going to go put your brother to bed," Snow took Neal out of his carseat and sat in the rocking chair.
Hanna looked up at her dad.
David sighed. "Just go upstairs and get ready for bed too, Hanna."
Hanna walked slowly up the stairs to her room, wondering if they were too mad at her to tuck her in like they always do.
Hanna did what her dad asked and got ready for bed. She got a quick shower and put on her pajamas. By now, Hanna was starving and was hoping she could get something to eat before she went to sleep. She didn't dare go downstairs though. She decided to just wait awhile to see if her parents would come up and tell her goodnight. She figured she could ask them for something then. Hanna made herself busy in her room while she waited. She picked up all of her dirty laundry and placed it into the basket beside her door. She put away the pile of clean laundry that her mom and dad asked her to put away a few days ago. Then she made her way over to her desk. She put her pencils away and piled up her notebooks. She threw away any old papers she didn't need anymore. Hanna decided to make her bed too, even though she would just go to sleep and mess it up in a little bit anyways. Her room was cleaner than it had been in weeks. Hanna was running out of things to do and was starting to think her parents really weren't going to come up here and say goodnight. Hanna sighed and grabbed her brush from her nightstand. She sat on her bed and began to work on the tangled mess when she heard the door creak open.
Hanna looked up and saw her parents walk into her room. She gave them a small smile.
Snow walked over to her first. "Would you like me to brush your hair for you?" She knew how much Hanna hated brushing her hair.
Hanna nodded and held out the brush for her mom.
Snow took it, sat down on the bed behind Hanna, and went to work on the knots.
"I made you something to eat," David sat down on the bed in front of Hanna and held out a plate.
"Thanks Dad." Hanna reached out for the plate. She picked up half of the sandwich to take a bite, but she got that awful feeling in her stomach again. She put it back down and looked up at her dad. "I…"
David shook his head. "Eat first, and then we'll talk."
Her mom and dad didn't say a word while she ate her sandwich. Hanna didn't know if that was a good thing or not, but she couldn't stand the silence. Before they came up, Hanna wasn't sure whether they were going to yell at her some more or just lecture her to death about what all she had done. Either would have been better than this silence though. This just gave Hanna time to feel even more guilty about everything.
David sat back against the wall and shut his eyes as he tried to wrap his head around everything that happened these last several days. He couldn't believe it when he found out Hanna had been lying to them this whole time. He and Snow both thought they got through to her after that day she decided to skip school. That's why they gave her so much freedom these last several days. He trusted her. He believed she was telling them the truth. Even when Snow felt like something was off, David convinced her that Hanna would tell them anything she knew about Emma…that they didn't need to worry, but he was wrong. He was wrong about Emma too. He thought for sure they could save her from the darkness when they set off for the Enchanted Forest. He knew together with his family they could save her, but right now he felt like they were farther away from getting the darkness out of Emma than they were when that vortex took her away all those weeks ago. They weren't able to save her in Camelot, and he didn't know what he was going to do to save her now. He didn't know what he was going to do with either of his girls. He didn't know what he was going to do next to protect his family.
Snow got all of the tangles out of Hanna's hair a few minutes ago, but she continued to run a brush through her long locks while she ate her sandwich. Hanna wouldn't admit it, but Snow knew she liked it when she brushed her hair. Snow could have kicked herself for not trusting her instincts about Hanna these last few days. Snow could always tell when she was lying. She had a built in lie detector for her girl from the moment the curse was broken, but this time it was different. Snow's gut was telling her one thing, but Hanna's reaction to everything seemed genuine. Snow thought back, and she knew some of Hanna's tears were real, but she could see now that some of them weren't. What Snow said in the car earlier was true…it scared her how good of a liar Hanna had become. She knew Hanna did it all for her sister though. Her sister…Snow didn't know what they were going to do about Emma, and now there was a second Dark One. It did help ease Snow's mind a little that Emma wasn't just doing all of these things because the darkness had gotten such a strong hold on her. Everything Emma had done was for the man she loved. Snow could understand that. She split her own heart in two to save her husband. Her girls were just as passionate as she and Charming were when it came to the people they loved. She and David needed to get the darkness out of Emma and help Hanna understand that she can't keep important things from them. How they were going to do that, Snow wasn't sure.
Snow looked up at her husband. He opened his eyes and smiled at her. There was a part of them that couldn't blame Hanna for what she did. She was protecting her sister. They both knew Hanna loved Emma so much. She would do anything for her. So much so that she'd put herself and others in danger. That's what Snow and Charming worried about the most. They couldn't let that happen, and they wouldn't. They didn't know what they were going to do or what they were going to say, but it was time to have this conversation, and they were going to work through everything together.
Hanna felt her mom stop brushing her hair and heard her set the brush down on the nightstand. Hanna then felt her mom's arms wrap around her. She leaned back into her mom's embrace. The feelings of guilt became even stronger. Hanna knew she hurt them with all of her lies.
Snow gave Hanna a kiss on the top of her head. "Are you finished eating?"
Hanna nodded.
"I'll take that for you." Snow reached around and took the plate from Hanna and set it on her nightstand. She wrapped her arm back around her little girl and sighed. "What are we going to do with you, huh?"
Hanna shrugged.
David reached out and held onto Hanna's hand. "We know you did all of this because you thought it was what was best for Emma."
Hanna just nodded again. She didn't know why they were being so nice to her. It just made her feel even worse. She could feel the tears begin to well up in her eyes.
"But honey, why didn't you tell us?" Snow asked.
"Emma would only let me help if I promised not to tell. I thought about telling you, but I didn't want her to shut me out like she was shutting out everyone else. I was the only one who could get to her. Her magic couldn't keep me away. I thought I could help her on my own."
"Hanna the things your sister was doing…they were dangerous," Snow said. "What she tried to get Merida to do to Belle and everything with Zelena. You should have come to us the moment you knew."
Hanna sighed. "I know. I almost did, but I trusted that Emma knew what she was doing. I thought if I just waited a little bit longer, then Emma would finish her plan and then everything would be fine."
"Hanna did you know about Hook or what she was planning to do to Zelena before tonight?" David asked her.
Hanna shook her head. "Dad I promise I just found out right before you got to Emma's. I was trying to stop her."
"Hanna, your sister is the Dark One I don't know if there was too much you could have done," Snow told her.
"That's why you should have come to us days ago. We all could have helped Emma together." David said. "What if something had happened to you?"
"Emma wouldn't let me get hurt. Plus, I had my magic. I would have just poofed away if I needed to."
"But your magic isn't as strong yet, Hanna." David told her. "You haven't had as much experience."
Hanna sighed. "But Dad, I'm fine."
"But you might not have been," Snow said as she tightened her grip around Hanna, worrying about what could have happened.
"You know my magic is a lot stronger than you think," Hanna told them.
"It may be," Snow said. "But you did run straight into a protection spell just a few hours ago."
Hanna rolled her eyes. She looked up at her mom. "I am fine though aren't I?" Hanna asked with a grin.
Snow just grinned back at her daughter. She had her there. "Yes I suppose you weren't hurt…this time."
"Just promise us you won't go running through protection spells anymore, even if it is to help your sister," David said.
"Okay, I promise."
The three of them sat in silence for a few more minutes before Hanna started to talk again.
"I did what I did because I really thought I was I was helping her. I thought I was getting through to her. I thought I was going to stop her. I was wrong though. I wasn't even helping her with anything. All I did was lie, and it was for nothing. None of it made any difference." Hanna sighed and sat up so she could look at both of her parents. "You know I am sorry, right? I hated having to lie to you."
"We know Hanna," David said with a sigh.
"We understand why you did everything you did," Snow told her.
"But that doesn't mean you're still not in trouble," David raised his eyebrows at her.
"I thought so." Hanna didn't think just because they were being nice she'd be off the hook. "What are you gonna do to me?"
"We were thinking Zelena's padded cell would be a nice place for you," David teased.
Hanna just looked at her dad and raised her eyebrows.
"What? I hear it's very comfy," David said with a shrug.
"Mom…" Hanna looked over at her mom to hear her real punishment.
"You're stuck with us kiddo. You have to stay with either your dad or I at all times until further notice."
Hanna rolled her eyes. She hated this punishment.
"Hey, don't you start that again," Snow said as she stood from Hanna's bed.
"Or we will throw you in that cell," David said with wink as he stood beside his wife.
"That cell might be the better option."
"Hey…" Snow and David said at the same time.
"Only joking," Hanna said as she laid down. A yawn escaped her mouth. She was starting to feeling just how exhausted she was. "I am sorry for everything."
"Just promise us you won't keep anymore secrets," Snow said.
"Even if you think you're doing the right thing. We need you to tell us, okay?" David added.
"Okay," Hanna nodded her head. "So…do you guys think you could get Regina to take this thing off of me tomorrow?" Hanna said with a smile as she held up her wrist with the cuff.
"Uhh…yeah, that's not going to be coming off for awhile," Snow told Hanna as she pulled the covers up around her. She gave her a kiss on her forehead and turned off the lamp on her nightstand.
"Sorry princess," David said as he kissed the top of her head.
Hanna sighed. She didn't think she'd get that lucky. "Fine. Goodnight."
"Goodnight. We love you."
"Love you too," Hanna said as they left the room.
Hanna rolled over and closed her eyes. She finally felt like she'd be able to sleep. Now that her parents knew all of her secrets, Hanna felt like a huge weight was lifted off of her shoulders. They still had a lot to deal with tomorrow, but for now Hanna tried to get some rest so she would be ready to help Emma in the morning.
Everyone met at Regina's to discuss what they were going to do next. Gold and Belle were there too because the newest Dark One paid them a visit earlier that morning and revealed his plan. He finally wanted his revenge against Rumpelstiltkin. Revenge for taking his hand, crushing the heart of his first love Milah, and for filling Emma with the darkness. They were going to duel at noon on his ship. They knew there had to be more to this plan though. Why else would Killian have wiped Emma's memories of his plans only to turn right around and reveal them to Gold? They thought maybe the answer could still lie with the message they received from Merlin about Nimue being the key to stopping the Dark One. Emma and Rumple told them that Nimue was Merlin's true love and the first Dark One. Gold suggested they start their search with the Dark One Chronicles. He told them that there are many texts that could help them. Emma wasn't too thrilled with the idea of scouring books when there was an easier way.
"I am still a Dark One. I can protect you Gold," Emma reached out her arm to him. "You just have to take off the cuff."
Gold let out a laugh.
"You don't trust me?" Emma looked around at everyone sitting at the table.
"Well, if the situations were reversed, would you trust me?" Gold asked.
"So it's true," Henry said as he walked into the room towards Emma. "You're here."
Hanna stomach did a flop when she saw him. She wasn't sure if Regina filled him in on everything that happened last night. Hanna didn't know if Henry knew about all of her lies.
"Henry," Emma reached out her hand to him. "I need you to tell them it's okay to take off this cuff. It's the only way to figure it all out."
"No," he told her. "You lied to us. About Hook, about everything. Why should we trust you now?"
"Henry, I'm your mother."
"Are you? Because the mom I knew wouldn't keep things from me."
Hanna could tell Emma was taken aback by his response.
"I thought you were the one person who would understand," Henry continued. "I thought you were the one person I could trust."
"So you can forgive Regina and Gold for everything they've done, but not me?"
"They've changed. They showed me they changed."
"So did I."
Hanna could see the sadness on Emma's face.
"When we first met, yeah. But the minute things got tough, you didn't come to anybody. You decided you were going to figure it out on your own. Well, not completely on your own I guess…" Henry looked to Hanna now.
Hanna's eyes went wide. He definitely knew all about her involvement.
"We were suppose to be a team," Henry told her.
Hanna just sat there. She didn't know what to say.
Henry looked back to Emma. "But now you just want your dark magic back so you can do it alone. And I've seen what you do with dark magic." Henry turned to leave.
"Henry wait!" Hanna ran up to him. She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. "Henry I…"
"You lied as much as she did, and you don't even have darkness to use as an excuse," Henry said before running upstairs.
Hanna just stood there as the tears started to fall.
"He's just going to need some time," Regina told the girls.
Hanna turned to her sister. "This is all your fault!"
"Hanna don't start," David told her. He didn't want another fight like last night. "Come on, let's go to the library and see what we can find."
"Let me guess, I'm not invited," Emma said.
"No you're not…" Hanna said as she walked past her sister.
"Hanna…" Snow warned. She sighed and looked to her other daughter. "Emma. We love you, but…"
"You don't trust me."
"We don't trust the darkness," David told her. "Stay here and let us save you. It's for the best."
Hanna gave Emma one last glare before she left with Belle and her parents to see what they could learn about Nimue and the Dark Ones.
Hanna sat at a table at the library and was looking through one of the books Belle pulled from the shelf. She was trying to understand what she was reading, but she couldn't focus. She looked up and saw Henry close his book and get up to get another. Hanna got up too and followed him though to the other room.
"Hanna, I don't want to talk to you," Henry said without even turning around.
"Henry, come on." Hanna walked around so she was standing in front of him. "Please?"
Henry looked up at her and sighed. "Fine you have five minutes. You have five minutes to explain why you lied to me. Why you didn't tell me about Gold being in Emma's basement, Emma having the sword, Merida's heart, the onion rings…"
"Okay, Henry okay. There was a lot of stuff. I know. I just…"
"You left me out Hanna. We've always been in this together. Ever since Operation Cobra. We've done everything together…"
Hanna could see the hurt on Henry's face. She didn't even know how to begin to apologize for all of it. "I thought I was doing the right thing Henry."
"The right thing would have been to tell me. To let me help."
"Henry the only reason I knew anything was because Emma couldn't keep me away. I could get around all of her protection spells. I found out almost everything by accident."
"You should have told us so we could do something."
"You couldn't have done anything. Emma was just playing me the whole time anyways."
"What do you mean?"
"I knew too much, so she just kept me busy with meaningless tasks to distract me. I thought I was actually helping her," Hanna shook her head. "I was so stupid."
"Yeah you were being pretty stupid," Henry told her with a smirk.
"I just didn't want you to get hurt Henry. I could have poofed myself away with my magic if I needed to. You don't have anything to protect yourself, and I can't poof myself and someone else yet. I thought I could get her to tell me her plan. I thought I could help her. Stop her. I don't know. I…"
"Okay, Hanna. Okay," he put his hands on her shoulders to get her to slow down. "I understand why you did everything you did."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"So…you're not mad at me anymore?"
"No," Henry sighed. "I just want my mom back."
"I want her back too, Henry." Hanna reached out and gave him a hug, relieved that he forgave her so easily. "There is one more thing I need to tell you."
"What is it?"
Hanna stood back and looked up at him, hoping this wouldn't make him mad at her all over again. "I was the one who took Violet's horse to the pumpkin patch."
"You were in on that too?"
Hanna nodded. "I'm sorry!"
Henry shook his head. "It's fine. It did score me major points with Violet after that," he said with a grin.
Hanna raised her eyebrows at him. "Did she kiss you?"
"I'm…not telling you that."
"Ahh Henry come on! I…"
"Hey guys…"
Hanna and Henry turned to see Emma standing beside them.
"Mom?"
Hanna crossed her arms. "What are you doing here?" Merida was suppose to be watching her back at her house. Hanna wondered how she escaped.
"I know how to figure this all out. I need your help. I need you to trust me," she told them.
"And why should we?" Hanna asked. "You've done nothing but lie and…"
"I know. I know. And I'm sorry. I'm really sorry."
Hanna raised her eyebrows at her. "Are you?"
"Yes Han, I am, okay? I know how I can save everyone."
Henry sighed. "How are you going to do it without magic?"
"I'm gonna do it with help. With you," Emma told him, then looked to Hanna. "With both of you."
Hanna was still mad at her sister and wasn't sure if she wanted to help Emma anymore. They needed to find out what that pirate was up to though, and if Emma knew a way then Hanna had to help. She had one condition though. "We aren't keeping it a secret, Emma. I'm going to tell Mom and Dad. I won't lie to them anymore"
"Okay, that's fine," Emma told her.
Hanna looked over to Henry. He wanted to help her too. Hanna looked back to her sister. "What do you need us to do?"
"Hook stole the dreamcatchers. He took my memories too, which means I must know something. If we can get them back, I can help everyone."
Emma still had the cuff on her wrist, so she needed their help. Henry had the idea of using a locator spell from Gold's shop. If Emma gave him what she used to make the dreamcatchers, the spell would lead them right to the others. They had a plan. Henry and Emma started to walk out the door.
"Are you coming?" Emma asked when she saw Hanna wasn't following them.
"I told you we have to tell Mom and Dad."
"We can," Emma assured her. "As soon as we get the dreamcatchers."
Hanna shook her head. "No, Emma. Now."
Emma sighed. "Hanna we don't have time for this. Let's just go."
"I can't come with you. Mom and Dad grounded me. I can't go anywhere without them. I'm not getting myself into more trouble for you."
"Hanna…"
"I can't," Hanna sighed. "Emma, they weren't even mad at me last night. They were just sad. All those lies…it really hurt them. I can't. I promised them I wouldn't keep anymore secrets."
Emma nodded her head. "Alright, but can you at least give us a head start? Give us twenty minutes to get the potion from Gold's and the dreamcatchers. Then, you can tell them and have everyone meet us at Regina's office."
Hanna stood there and thought about it. She knew Emma and Henry needed to do this.
"Han, please?"
"Okay. Twenty minutes and that's it."
"We'll see you at Regina's," Emma said. "Let's go, Henry."
Hanna watched them leave the library and went back to her spot at the table. She tried to keep reading what was inside, but she couldn't concentrate. Her eyes shifted between the book and the clock. Twenty minutes felt like a really long time when there were a million butterflies flying around your stomach.
Thirty more seconds. That's all the longer Hanna had to wait. She started to get really nervous to tell everyone. What was she going to say? Twenty more seconds. Would her mom and dad get mad at her for keeping a secret for twenty minutes? Would Emma and Henry's plan even work? Ten seconds. Hanna couldn't take it anymore…
"Emma escaped. She was here. She took Henry to go find the dreamcatchers."
Everyone looked up from their books.
"She what?"
"Hanna how long have you known about this?"
"How? She has no magic?"
Hanna's eyes went wide as they bombarded her with questions.
Snow sighed. She could see the worry in her daughters eyes. "Hanna…tell us what you know."
Hanna took a deep breath and told them Emma's plan. They let Regina know, and they all quickly made their way to her office and waited for Emma and Henry.
Regina was there along with Robin and Merida. They had been at Regina's for almost ten minutes and Emma and Henry still weren't there. Hanna was about to demand Regina take the cuff off of her wrist so she could poof to her sister, when they finally appeared in the room. Hanna was relieved. They were safe, and they had the dreamcatchers. She also surprised to see Emma and Henry poof into the room. She looked at her sister's wrist and saw that her cuff was gone. She figured Henry used a potion from Gold's shop to make it disappear. She glared down at her own cuff and hoped she could talk him into giving her some of that stuff.
"And we're suppose to believe you're going to give our memories back to us just like that?" Merida asked.
"We can trust her," Henry told her.
"Can we?" Regina asked.
"Yes," Emma told her.
"Okay," Regina said as she lifted the dreamcatcher she had in her hand. Emma had given everyone a dreamcatcher so they could all get their memories back.
Hanna did the same as Regina and lifted her dreamcatcher. Emma waved her hand, sending the memories from the dreamcatchers back into their heads.
Hanna stood there as the memories from Camelot flooded back to her. She remembered entering that beautiful kingdom. She remembered being so scared for her sister…watching her struggle with the darkness. Hanna started to feel embarrassed when she remembered that ball and the boy who had asked her to dance. She remembered what happened to Robin. She remembered helping Regina hide the dagger. She remembered when Emma freed Merlin from the tree. Hanna grinned when she remembered that she blasted a few of Arthur's men back with her magic that night. She remembered the night Emma tried to forge the sword with the dagger too. Killian was dying and Emma disappeared with him. They came back, but there was something different about Hook. The last thing Hanna remembered was seeing Emma follow Hook into Granny's.
Hanna looked up from the dream catcher and could see the expression on her sister's face. "Emma…what's wrong?"
"I remember," Emma said as she looked up from her dreamcatcher. "I know what he's doing. I know what they're doing."
"What Emma? What are they doing?"
Emma dropped her dreamcatcher. "They're going to resurrect all of the Dark Ones," Emma said as she poofed herself from the room.
Hanna waved her hand to try and follow her, but quickly remembered she couldn't. "Damn it!"
"Hanna!" Snow and David reprimanded.
"Sorry…let's just go find her." Hanna ran from the room, knowing they would all follow her.
When they made it outside they spotted Emma walking down Main Street. They were thankful she hadn't poofed herself too far.
"Emma, slow down. We need to talk about this. We need a plan," David said.
"The plan is to find Hook before he resurrects all the Dark Ones. You think dealing with one is bad…" Emma told him.
"There's more than one Dark One?" Grumpy asked as he and the dwarves came up behind them.
"It's a long story," David told him.
"Well no matter. There's seven of us."
"Six. Dopey's still a tree," Happy reminded him.
"We may be down a dwarf, but we're ready to fight." Grumpy said.
"We won't have to," Emma told them, "I'm going to take care of this."
"Em, what are you going to do?" Hanna asked.
"You think you can talk him out of this?" David asked.
Regina shook her head. "There's no talking. We have to hit him with everything we've got."
"Well it's not his fault," Snow said. "He didn't want to become the Dark One."
"But he did because of me. None of that matters anymore." Emma stopped and turned to face everyone. "Regina's right. We need to hit him with everything."
"This is a man you loved," Snow said.
"That man died back in Camelot," Emma said. "Now all there is, is the Dark One. So no matter how hard this might be, we need to split up, find him, and stop him. No matter what it takes."
"But Emma…" Hanna knew how much she loved Killian. Was this really their only option?
"It's the only way Han."
"Okay," Hanna nodded her head. She knew her sister was right.
"Let's go," Emma turned and started walking towards Gold's shop. Henry went with her and Hanna started to follow.
"Hanna you come with us," David said.
Hanna sighed, but turned and went with her mom and dad.
"Let's take my truck and see what we can find."
David opened the driver side door for he and Snow to get in.
Hanna went to the passenger side and was about to open the door when she saw two hooded figures walking towards her parents.
"Mom, Dad!" Hanna shouted as the two figures walked through them. She quickly ran to the other side of the truck. The hooded figures had disappeared by the time she made it to her parents. "Are…are you okay?"
They both nodded.
"We're alright," David assured her.
"Mom, help me!"
"Henry." Hanna took off running in his direction. She watched as one of the hooded figures walked through him too.
"Henry!" Hanna yelled as she ran up to him.
Emma was right there too. "Are you okay?"
"I think so," he told her.
Everybody came running to where Henry was.
"What just happened to us?" Regina demanded to know.
Mr Gold walked up to them and knew the answer to Regina's question. He told everyone to check their wrists. Everyone who had a hooded figure pass through them had a mark. He told them Hook was successful in bringing all of the Dark Ones here. However, they only have a temporary pass to this world and the only way for them to stay is to trade places with living souls. He told them it's the Mark of the Charon. From an old myth who chartered a boat to the Underworld. When the moon reaches its peak, the ferry boat from the Underworld will arrive and drag those who have been marked down there. Gold's only advice was to use this time wisely and spend it with the people they loved. He saw no way out of this.
Hanna just stood there, trying to fully comprehend what that meant. She and Emma didn't have a marks on their wrists, but everyone else did. Her family was about to be taken. They were all going to be taken away and dragged to the Underworld…
