It was a day after the incident with the mayor. Knuckles wouldn't let Ruby leave the house. The same rule applied to Rocky by his own parents. Brisk was allowed to leave the house but Amy insisted Sonic join him where he goes. Although he disliked being babied, he enjoyed bonding with his dad over what happened.
"Like father, like son", Sonic said patting his son on the back.
Brisk was unsure. "It was an accident though; does that make me a hero"?
"Defeating that guy and his robot certainly wasn't an accident. It reminds me of my battles with Eggman".
At the M.P.U fortress the black lizard watched as the androids dragged Sleet and Dingo in and threw them before him. "You fools were supposed to be the best, I witnessed common thugs that could have done a better job".
"That wasn't our fault, how were we to predict that Sonic's son would appear and save the mayor by mistake".
"My superiors have been pressuring me to find the ones responsible for the attack, what I didn't tell them was they would be brought back dead"!
"Why", Dingo stuttered.
Sleet quickly caught on. "Because you're afraid we'll make some plea bargain, tell everyone about our deal".
"Won't you"?
"We would, but it doesn't have to end this way, since we failed our job, we're professionally bound to work for you as we've already being paid some of the money".
"Perhaps you two clowns still can be useful, alright you two get to live for now".
Two weeks have passed since the attempt on Perci's life, things have mostly calmed down. There was still a high search for Sleet and Dingo. Their faces were placed on wanted posters; a big reward offered. Still, there was no word on the 2.
Brisk was allowed by himself without an escort again. He was running but not in the city. He was in the countryside outside the city. He liked it as it gave him more space to run.
However, he stopped when he noticed a few M.P.U robots. He was going to greet them, see if they needed help.
"I wouldn't go near them".
He jumped in surprise, turning around it was none other than Rocky.
"Hey it's good to see you again, how you been"?
"Don't go near those robots, I tried to and they opened fire on me, I barely got out of the way".
"Really? M.P.U must be hiding something big, let's go see what it is".
"Wait", Rocky cried out, but he was already gone so Rocky followed reluctantly.
It took some sneaking around, while they were at it, the 2 got to talking.
Brisk was wondering. "What you doing in the countryside"?
"I get uncomfortable being around many people in the city, that's why I like it here, less to be around", Rocky explained. "What about you"?
"Plenty of space to run".
They halted when they found what M.P.U was guarding. Brisk was in awe. "A Chaos Emerald".
"Impossible, there hasn't been any sign of them for years", Rocky pointed out. "At least we know why M.P.U is being paranoid. come on, let's go".
Brisk didn't move though, he kept his gaze on the Chaos Emerald.
He took his gaze off when he heard a familiar voice. "Out of the way, we've been ordered to bring it back". It was Sleet and Dingo was following him.
Brisk glared. "It's those two".
"Why are M.P.U not attacking them and who ordered them to bring it back"?
Dingo grabbed the Chaos Emerald and the robots did nothing. Brisk was going to run out but Rocky stopped him. "You can't just run out in the open".
"Why not? We beat them last time".
"It might be hard to take them both and M.P.U at the same time, I have an idea. He took out his hacking device and pointed at the unsuspecting bots.
Brisk was disappointed to see nothing change. "Why isn't it working"?
"You can't expect me to hack military property in just a few seconds".
"They're going to get away, I have to stop them". Brisk spin dashed and gave Dingo a kick to the face making him drop the Chaos Emerald.
"Not you again". Sleet was more than annoyed.
"What are you waiting for? Attack", ordered Dingo.
The machines fired at the hedgehog who easily dodged the bullets. They didn't fire for longer, they suddenly shut down. "What's happening", yelled Sleet. Suddenly they were back on, but now opened fire at the evil duo.
Sleet and Dingo barely had time to dodge, and ran behind a big rock, acting as a shield against the bullets. Dingo managed to peek out to see the Emerald, but he was aware that going out into the open was a suicidal move. He saw Brisk pick up the emerald.
"Come on, I have a secret hideout, we can take the Emerald there", Rocky shouted. Brisk followed his friend, taking the emerald with.
"Sleet they took the emerald and they're getting away"! Sleet growled before taking out the remote and turning Dingo into a rocket launcher.
"Why do I always have to be turned into something"?
"Shut up so I can aim and focus", he replied, taking shots at the robots. After taking out the machines, Sleet took out a phone and called the Commander.
"This better be good", said a voice from the phone.
"Those same brats who wrecked our plan last time took the emerald".
He did not sound amused. "What"?
"Don't blame us, your robots went off, then fired at us and let them get away".
"Really? I better have a word with their maker to upgrade their security to prevent this from happening again. Due to the circumstances, I'll forgive you both this time. Any clue where they might have gone".
"I heard the two tailed fox say something about a secret hideout in the country side", Dingo suddenly said. Sleet was going to dismiss him, but the one on the other side of the com took an interest.
"Secret hideout, that's where they'll hide the emerald".
"How are we supposed to find it, the countryside is huge"?
"Simple. The M.P.U has been keeping tabs on the parents, in case they were ever needed. It isn't difficult to figure out who the fox is related too. I can give you the address".
Brisk was impressed with the hideout, it was hidden deep within a cave, there is what appeared to be a workshop. It was mostly technology, not his strong suit.
"We can't take the Chaos Emerald home, it's the first place they'll look".
Brisk nodded. "I get it, so we keep it here, but what do we do next"?
"As I remembered hearing, there were seven of them, although it is unknown if those criminals know the whereabouts".
"Right now, we should focus on protecting the one we got".
"Exactly, thankfully I put my workshop where nobody could find it, thank my years of shyness for that".
"Does anybody else know about this place", asked Brisk. "My parents, my grandmother, and now you. Don't worry though, they won't tell anyone a thing.
"Is that your plane". Brisk suddenly looked at the green plane.
"That's the Tornado IV. Me and my Papa built it together".
"Wow, if I'm correct your dad had his own which he used to battle Dr Eggman".
"That's right, I always love listening to those stories".
"Me too. Hey, how about you come to my house and meet dad, he'd be very interested in meeting his best friend's son", offered Brisk. Rocky's eyes lit up. "I'd be honoured".
Cream was at the house by herself. Rocky said he was going to his hideout and Tails was away to pick up her mother. She was still concerned about Rocky, for 2 weeks ago. She considered sending Rocky to live with her mother for a while, until she was sure it would be safe, but Tails reasoned with her not to.
'Ding Dong'
Hearing the doorbell, she was shocked to see those 2 at her door. Those 2 that tried to kill her son. Feeling angry she clenched her fist. She hated violence, but she hated it more when someone tries to harm her son. The only reason she didn't attack was because there were for some strange reason, M.P.U robots with the duo. "What are you two doing here"? She was not trying to hide her anger.
Sleet smirked. "You recognise us from the news". It wasn't a question.
Dingo chuckled. "We just want to come in for a chat about your boy is all".
Cream replied by punching Dingo in the jaw. "I'm calling the police, you better start running", she warned.
Sleet caught her wrist, but Cream kicked him in the foot. She had to press the alarm her husband designed. Those 2 wouldn't stand a chance. The button was only a few feet away. She ran to press it but Dingo grabbed her wrists. "Nothing personal, but we need to ask ya a few questions are all".
