Ch 43 The Champion of Hoenn Pt 1

A loud thud echoed throughout the Stadium, everyone looked to see Salamence laying belly down on the Battlefield. His eyes were spiraling, indicating that he couldn't continue with the Battle.

The crowd cheers loudly for the outcome of the Pokemon Battle. Steven huffs, feeling exhausted from the Battle. He took a moment to himself, unsure if what he was hearing was cheers for him and Metagross or Drake and his Salamence.

Then the Chairwoman of the Pokemon League announced what he wasn't expecting. "Salamence is unable to Battle, the victor of this match and the Champion League is Metagross and Steven Stone!" Blanche announced, causing an uproar of cheers.

Steven looks around the audience, seeing the many spectators cheering for his victory over the entire Elite Four.

He looks at the Towers surrounding the Stadium, standing from inside the three Elite Four members that Steven has defeated. Sydney, Glacia, and Phoebe, each of them gave applause for his display of strength and for overcoming each one of them.

The Steel-blue haired trainer looks over to where his friends were sitting at. They cheered for him just like everybody else, however unlike everyone he was able to hear them.

"I KNEW YOU CAN DO IT, DUDE!" Brawly exclaims, waving his hand at him,

"AHAHAHA! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!" Flannery laughs loudly at how she was right that he could defeat all four of the Elite Four. "THAT'S OUR FUTURE CHAMPION RIGHT THERE!"

Roxanne claps her hands, smiling at Steven. Even most of the time she seems mature, however, this time she let that go. "WAY TO GO STEVEN! THAT WAS AN EXCELLENT BATTLE!" She exclaims,

Jackie smiles, also clapping for his victory over the Elite Four. "If he wins the match with the current Hoenn League Champion then he'll become Champion." The blonde boy commented, speaking to Helena.

Kirlia was cheering like the other Pokemon around the crowd. Helena chuckles, holding onto her Partner tightly before she falls out.

"Yeah, I can't wait for that to happen," Helena looks down at the Battlefield, seeing Steven in disbelief at what he has just accomplished. 'After all, he's seeking out his dream to be the best trainer,' She waves at him, congratulating him in her own way.

Steven's mouth crept into a smile before pumping his hand in the air. "WE DID IT, METAGROSS! WE'VE DEFEATED THE ELITE FOUR!" The young trainer cheered, running over to his Partner.

Metagross reverts to his original form and turns to face his Partner. "Meta!" The Iron Leg Pokemon let Steven hug him, sharing the momentous occasion together.

"You did great, Metagross! You were awesome, you and everyone else!" Steven smiles, seeing his dream of becoming the Hoenn League Champion is coming true. He was grateful for having his Pokemon getting him to this point,

"Meta!" The Duel-type smiles, appreciating the time Steven thanked them for their hard work.

Drake smiles watching the young trainer sharing the victory with his Partner. He took out Salamence's Pokeball as he came down to the Battlefield.

Salamence raised his head, still laying on the ground. He turns to Drake, sensing him approaching him.

The Dragon Pokemon inclined his head, apologizing for being defeated.

"You don't need to apologize, my friend." The Dragon master petted his Partner on the head, ensuring him that he did his best. "You gave it your all and did your best,"

Salamence nodded, smiling that Drake still gives him praise despite his loss.

Drake held his Pokeball, aiming it at his Partner. "Get some rest, Salamence. You deserve it," He calls back Salamence before heading towards Steven.

"Well, you did it, Kid. You have defeated all four of the Elite Four. Congratulations, you earned it." Drake congratulates Steven for something only a few trainers can do,

Steven nodded, "Thank you, Drake." He responded to the Dragon master's compliment.

Drake cleared his throat before continuing with what he wanted to say. "Now that you have defeated all members of the Elite Four, you have the right to challenge our current Pokemon Champion for his title." The old Captain stated,

"Congratulations to Steven Stone on defeating all members of the Elite Four," Blanche announced to the audience, "Now the time has come, the Battle for the title of Hoenn League Champion is among us. Who will win, the Challenger, Steven Stone?" The Chairwoman of the Pokemon asked, holding out her hand toward him.

"Or our current Champion…" The dark-skinned woman motions her other hand to the towers slowly reverting to the original placement. Once the Dragon Tower returned to its original place as the Rotom Drones flashed their lights to the observation box on the left side of the Stadium.

Everyone gazed upwards to the observation box, where the Champion of the Hoenn Region made his way.

"W-Wait a moment is that…" Flannery squinted her eyes, looking past the shade covering their Champion.

Brawly scoffs, seeing the Champion making his way to the edge of the observation. "There's no way, Dude." The Sky-blue haired boy chuckles,

Roxanne gasps, seeing their Region's Champion before bursting into laughter. "Of course, he would hide something like this," She laughs before looking at Helena, "Helena?"

Helena gave a light chuckle, scratching her cheeks.

"Don't tell me that you already knew that Wallace was the Hoenn Champion?" Roxanne asked her black-haired friend,

"Um, yeah?" The former Witch answered before they exclaimed in her face.

"EEEEEHHHHHHH!?" Brawly, Roxanne, and Flannery's mouths hung open at what Helena had told them.

"Look, I was shocked when he told me," Helena explains quickly to her friends. "I first found out when Dratini was in trouble with some poachers then Wallace showed up with his Milotic," She continues with her explanation.

They all sigh, knowing that Wallace probably asked her to keep it a secret from them…for a dramatic surprise.

"Well, knowing Wally, he probably asked you to keep the fact he was the Region's Champion from us," Brawly commented, knowing the teal-haired boy would do something like this.

Flannery groans, slapping her forehead at what their friend asked of Helena. "Dang it, Wallace, you and your dramatic reveals!" The red-haired girl looks at the former Witch, "Girl, you shouldn't let Wallace do that to you. Yeah, it's for fun and games, but literally, you can't ask someone to keep a secret!" She vented, frustrated with their friend.

Roxanne patted Flannery's back, calming her down from her venting. "Flannery, calm down. Wallace didn't mean any harm, it's just Wallace being Wallace." The brunette spoke to her friend.

Flannery took a deep breath before calming herself down. "It's fine, I'm just really pissed off from Wallace keeping this from us." She paused, then looked at Helena, "Not like I'm blaming you, Ellie. Sorry," She said, not wanting to make her feel like she has something to do with this.

Helena smiled and waved it off like it was nothing. "It's fine Flan,"

"Kirlia," The Emotions Pokemon sighed in relief that her trainer wasn't in any trouble with their friends. "Kirlia?" Kirlia looks up, seeing Jackie leaning forward to her Partner.

"Hmm? Jackie, what is it?" The black-haired girl looks at her friend, curious why he's leaning towards her.

Jackie smiles at the former Witch, "So you knew that Wallace was the Pokemon League Champion?" He asked her,

Helena nodded, confused about what he was talking about. "Yes?"

The blonde started laughing as he sat down back in his seat. "Wow, that must be hard to keep a secret like that from everyone." Jackie laughs, wiping away the tear from his eyes. He found this small conversation between his friends humorous.

"Arceus, you must be really good at keeping secrets," Jackie commented, finding that interesting about her.

Helena just gave a small chuckle, "If someone promises me to keep a secret then I make do with that promise." She raised her finger at Jackie, "After all, this is Wallace's fun little secret. Nobody was harmed in the end, other than some shock expressions." She looks over to Brawly, still shocked from earlier.

"True, I may not know Wallace that long, but I can tell he likes to play games," Jackie added to the conversation.

Kirlia nodded, however, she was a bit concerned about Brawly being in that state. "Kirlia?" She patted her Partner's arm before pointing at Brawly,

"What is it Kirlia?" Helena asked her first Pokemon, curious about what she was pointing to. Her green eyes look over to the Sky-blue haired trainer before understanding what is trying to say. "Ah, I see,"

"Don't worry, I got him." Flannery reached her fingers at the young Surfer before snapping them together. "Wake up!" She shouted at them.

Brawly shook his head, coming out of his shock. "WAIT, YOU KNEW, ELLIE!?" He exclaims, clearly wasn't listening to the conversation.

They all laugh before Flannery explains to the Fighting-type trainer what he'd missed.

Back on the Battlefield, Steven was shocked to see his rival standing in the observation box. "Wallace? He's the Hoenn League Champion?" Steven asked, still comprehending that his Rival was the Champion of the Hoenn Region.

Steven looks up at the teal-haired Champion, waving at the people in the audience.

"A truly wonderous Battle! As the Hoenn League Champion, I have never seen a Battle where a trainer has complete trust in their Pokemon other than the Elite Four and the Gym Leaders." Wallace looks down at the Steel-blue haired trainer.

The Champion looks back at his Rival, smiling at him. "As such, I'm looking forward to our Battle tomorrow and if he has the ability to defeat me." Wallace winks at Steven, truly excited about their Battle.

Steven blinks before smirking back at him, sharing the same feeling as him.

Wallace chuckles before continuing his announcement. "Before we leave, I would like to welcome a special guest who made it here from the Kanto Region and currently holds the title of Champion." He steps aside, allowing the special guest to come out of the observation box.

Everyone looks at the person coming out from the observation box.

The person was a young man with dark brown hair and brown eyes. He wore light-blue jeans, a black shirt under a red coat, red shoes, and a pair of red shoes.

"Oh Arceus, it's him!" A trainer within the audience gasps,

"I didn't expect him to be here!" Another trainer commented, feeling the honor to be seeing the top trainer of the World.

"Oh my Arceus, oh my Arceus!" Another trainer excitedly exclaims upon seeing the trainer she looks up to.

Helena looks up at the young man in red, she felt she has seen him before but can't put her finger on it. "That guy looks familiar," She commented, trying to remember the face.

Jackie looks at Helena, hearing what she said. "Seriously? Helena, have you ever seen him before?"' the blonde boy asked the former Witch. "He's literally a living legend! He's the current Kanto Champion and holds the title of number one in the Masters Eight!"

"Red!" Jackie exclaims, looking at the monitor showing the strongest trainer in the World.

Red waves his hand at the many Pokemon fans screaming his name. "…"

Wallace took over, smiling at the people of Hoenn. "I would like to thank Chairwoman Blanche for facilitating the Challenger's Battle with the Elite Four." The teal-haired Champion looks at Blanche, appreciating her involvement with the League Battle.

Blanche merely nodded, seeing it was a part of her job as Chairwoman of the Pokemon League.

"I also like to thank Kanto's Champion here; he has told me that he'll be facilitating our Battle." Wallace gave applause to the dark-haired Champion,

The audience joined in, applauding the top of the Masters Eight for being here on a momentous occasion.

Red merely nodded, waving at the people of Hoenn. "…"

After the whole closing ceremony for the Elite Four Battle, a party was held to celebrate Steven's achievement.

Poppers burst confetti as everyone cheered, "Congratulations on defeating the Elite Four, Steven!" Everyone cheered in unison as their Pokemon congratulated the Steel-blue haired boy.

The party was small but was fun either way, "Thank you, everyone, for setting this up." Steven smiles appreciating everyone setting this party up for him. "I can honestly say that I wouldn't have made it without your support."

Brawly chuckles, slapping his friend's back at him giving praise just for watching them. "Come on Dude, stop saying that! You're making me all mushy inside!" The Fighting-type laughs,

"Hariyama!" Hariyama cried out,

"Ma! Machamp!" Machamp added to the Arm Thrust Pokemon's comment.

"See? Even Machamp and Hariyama are feeling mushy inside." Brawly jokes with his friend.

Flannery groans, seeing the Sky-blue trainer's manliness showing. "Geez, Brawls calm down with your ego," The red-haired girl jokes with the Fighting-type trainer about his ego. "Your Pokemon is taking after you."

Brawly placed his hands behind his head, taking Flannery's sentence as a compliment. "Well thank you, Flannery, for that comment." He gave his usual bright smile to the red-haired girl.

"I don't think that was meant to be as a compliment Brawly," Roxanne informed her friend while tending to Nosepass and Geodude on the floor.

"Geodude!" Geodude cheered, receiving some Pokemon food for himself and the Compass Pokemon.

"Nose, Nosepass!" Nosepass went to his bowl, partaking in the food.

Brawly shrugs, not giving any care in the world what the Fire-type user really means to say. "Oh I know, I'm just going with the flow as they say." He looks at the brunette,

Steven chuckles, liking the atmosphere they have with his friends. "Well, well, it seems I haven't missed the party." The young trainer turns around, seeing Wallace walking in with a bright smile.

"Hey everyone, been awhil-" Flannery dashed forward, grabbing the collar of his shirt.

"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!?" The red-haired girl practically shouted in his face. "HOW DARE YOU NOT TELL US YOU'RE THE CHAMPION!"

Helena and Steven quickly approach the two, seeing that Flannery just bombarded him. "F-Flannery! Calm down!" The former Witch separated her friend from their other friend.

Steven stood between the two as Helena held back their quick-tempered friend. "Yeah, take it easy Flannery." He said, trying to calm her down, "Wallace was just playing his usual game with us like always."

Torkoal and Mags went over to their trainer, to help out with the situation.

"Right, Wally?" Steven asked, raising his eyebrow at the teal-haired trainer.

Wallace chuckles, giving his usual response. "Well, you all know how I like big surprises. Besides, it's not a big deal." He laughs it off as usual.

Everyone groans at Wallace waving this off like it's some kind of prank.

At another table, Joseph and Lydia smiled at the sight of their Son having such a fun group of friends. "It's so nice that Steven has such a lively group of friends," Lydia took a sip of her drink.

"Lively is not the word I would use, dear," Joseph commented, looking at his Wife sitting before him. His eyes shift back to their Son and his friends, already knowing how to describe them. "I would use unique to describe them." The navy-blue-haired man commented.

"Hmm, yes I do believe that's the best way to describe their friendship, Joseph." Lydia giggled, seeing her Husband was on the point.

After Flannery calmed down, she sat down in the chair. "Did you calm down now?" Helena asked, seeing her friend was calmer than before.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." Flannery looks at her Partners and petted their heads. She then looks at Wallace still a bit mad at him, "Seriously, Wallace you always go too far when it comes to us."

"Sorry, but that's who I am and besides there is another reason why I hid the fact I am the Champion," Wallace said to his friends.

Roxanne placed the pieces together, understanding what his other reason was for attending the Trainer School. "Ah, the Coordinator classes!" The brunette stated,

Wallace winks at his friend for getting the answer right. "Yep, I may be hiding the fact that I was Champion, but I really do like the idea of performing with my Pokemon on stage." The Champion explains to his friends. "Besides I gotta find something else to do when I'm defeated and hand over the title of Champion to Steven."

"Wait, you don't mind losing your title as Hoenn Champion, Wally?" Jackie asked, wondering why he said something like that. "You sound like you don't want to be the Champion anymore."

"Now that Jackie mentioned it, your tone did hint that you're going to give up being Champion," Steven asked after pondering on the blonde trainer's sentence. "Do you not like being Pokemon League Champion, Wallace?" He asked.

"It's not like I don't like being Pokemon Champion," The teal-haired Champion stated, answering their question. "I do like the tough trainers challenging me, but during those off-seasons, there is a lot of work to do as the leader of the Region."

"I don't have the time to really do much when I'm running things." Wallace looks at Steven, having the time to get to know him well to know that he has the capability to be the Region's Champion. "I knew that you have in you to defeat the Elite Four. From the moment I met you, I knew you can be a Champion. All I needed to do is to test you by becoming your Rival in the school."

Steven could only chuckle, seeing that Wallace's reasoning for being his Rival was to test him. "But that doesn't mean that I won't be easy to defeat," Wallace stated, smirking at the potential Champion. "I'll give you a Battle that is worthy of being the great Battle in the League's History."

The Steel-blue haired boy chuckles some more, crossing his arms at Wallace's proclamation. "I expect nothing less from my Rival," Steven smirks, accepting the hard challenge from his Rival.

The party continued into the night, Steven stood outside on the balcony, needing some air. He sighs before seeing someone walking out, "Ellie, came to get some fresh air?" Steven asked Helena, his face paled seeing her holding her stomach. "A-Are you okay?"

"I-I had a little too much to eat," Helena smiles, walking to the railings and joining the Steel-blue haired boy. "I was told by a friend back in my old home that having fresh air helps with a stomach ache." She commented,

Steven sighs in relief that it wasn't too serious. He turns back, leaning on the railings. "That's some helpful information your friend shared with you." He added, starting up a conversation with her. "I'm curious, I know your family friend wants you to travel but do you miss them? Your friends and family back at your old home, I mean."

Helena leans on the rails just as Steven, answering his question. "Well, I do obviously. But I can't call them since…they don't have Phones or Rotom Phones unlike here." She lied a bit, "The way we communicate is by…um letters and landline Phones."

"You mean the written letters from mail and the old landlines?" Steven asked, a bit surprised to hear there was a place that uses those outdated systems. Considering that Helena came from the boonies; it makes sense that communication with them was hard to do. "Well, don't let that stop you from contacting them, Ellie."

"Yeah…I wish I could." Helena sighs heavily.

Steven noticed the heavy sigh Helena gave; knowing that something was on her mind other than her friends back at her old home. "What's wrong? Why can't you contact your friends?" He asked,

The former Witch looks at Steven, unsure how to tell him. Though she wanted to keep it a secret, she knew that eventually, she had to go back, "Steven, t-there is something I didn't tell you," Helena said.

Steven nodded, waiting for her to tell him.

"Y-You see…um…" Helena gulps, unsure how Steven would react if he knew the reason why she left. "T-The reason why I-I went on my Journey is…"

"Steven! Ellie!" Brawly enters the scene, interrupting Helena's statement. "Professor Ceder just arrived with some cake to celebrate with us!" The Sky-blue haired trainer announced, calling them back inside.

Steven looks at their friend, smiling at them. "We'll be there, Brawly." He said to him. '

Helena sighs in relief that Brawly interrupted their conversation. 'Thank you Brawly for interrupting our conversation,' She smiles softly, having more time to figure out how to say the truth to Steven.

"Ellie," Helena looks at Steven, hearing him calling her name.

Steven smiles, placing his hand on his side, "Whatever you want to tell me, you can when you are ready to tell me." He said, not minding the long wait.

"Y-Yeah, thanks." Helena blushed, pushing back her hair behind her ear.

"Now, shall we get cake? By the time we get there, it'll probably be gone from our Pokemon, and everyone getting seconds." Steven jokes with the former Witch.

Helena couldn't help but giggle at Steven's little joke, she nodded, walking beside him. "That's not a very good joke, Steven." She smiled.

Steven shrugs, "Hey, I'm just saying the truth." He commented.

Helena rolled her eyes, knowing that what he said was true. They went inside and had some cake the Professor had just come with.
