Ch 50 Discovering One's Abilities
Everyone gathered around the town center; they all noticed the strange people dressed as Knights lined up.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for your attention." A green-haired man with red eyes and light green hair steps forward as the Knights made room for him. He wore a split yellow and purple robe with patterns in the opposite color.
"My name is Ghetsis, I represent Team Plasma and I would like to talk about Pokemon Liberation." The man named Ghetsis stated, announcing to the crowd of people.
They all talk, curious about what the Leader of Team Plasma was talking about.
N walks forward, seeing the people gathered around.
"Most of you believe we Humans and Pokemon are Partners and that we should live together because we want and need each other." Ghetsis continues, closing his eyes before opening them. "However…is this really true? Have you ever considered that we the people conceal the truth? That we as a Society believe the ideal living is to have Pokemon subjugated in these…Pokemon Battles?"
"Where we keep them in Pokeballs?" The Leader of Team Plasma asked the people of Accumula Town about their lives with their Pokemon. "I implore, consider this. Are we and Pokemon truly equal?"
Many people started to converse with each other before Ghetsis left the scene with the entourage of Team Plasma Grunts.
N blinks, looking down at the bipedal purple feline Pokemon. She gently placed her paw on his leg, causing him to kneel and pet her. "Don't worry, Purrloin. Soon people will see the truth of Ghetsis's words."
"Purrloin…" The Dark-type Pokemon purrs, allowing her friend to pet her.
The young green-haired trainer stood up before looking at a young dark brunette girl with blue eyes, a black vest, short sleeve shirt, and short pants with black boots.
She stood before a young man with black hair, glasses, and a blue suit.
"Those people…they kinda look-" N eyes widen, placing his hand on his forehead. "Ngh,"
A messy black-haired man was holding him in his arms as a red-haired woman hold out a strange stuffed toy. "Lookie here's Moony, N…"
"Excuse me?" N returned to reality, looking up to see the two trainers he was just looking at. "Are you okay? You look pale," The girl said to him,
N looks over to his friend, Purrloin who had a worried expression on her face. He smiles down at her before looking at the two trainers. "I'm fine, thank you for your concerns." He stated. His eyes then caught the orange and black pig-like Pokemon in the girl's arms.
"Tepig!" The Fire Pig Pokemon happily cried.
The green-haired trainer walks forward, he reached his hand at Tepig and pets him. "Thank you, Tepig. I appreciate your words," N chuckles at the Fire-type's statement.
The black-haired trainer looks at his fellow trainer, "You're aware that Hilda here was the one who ask you if you're okay, right?" He said to the strange trainer.
"I'm aware, and I thank you." N looks up at the girl named Hilda, smiling at her.
Hilda smiles at the young man. "It's no problem, just don't mind Cheren too much. He can be a stick in the mud at times." The brunette stated.
"H-hey, I'm not always like that," Cheren responded to Hilda's comment.
Hilda shrugs, "I don't know, you were always like that when it comes to Bianca." She commented on his personality.
Cheren rolled his eyes before looking at the green-haired trainer. "Say, you got a name? We sort of introduced ourselves to you." The new trainer said, "It's only right for you to give it too."
"Cheren, don't be so straightforward!" Hilda hissed at her Childhood friend for being too brash.
Tepig laughs, seeing the two are truly like Siblings fighting with each other.
N found this curious, Tepig was laughing instead of being quiet like the trainers and Pokemon he met before. "Curious…your Pokemon's voice. How can one be happy when they are confined to small balls." He asked himself.
"I'm sorry?" Hilda asked a bit creeped out by what this stranger was saying.
"Forgive me, my name is N. I have the power to speak to a Pokemon's inner voice." N stated, smiling down at Purrloin for her assistance. "If you would indulge me, I would like to hear Tepig's voice." He steps back, standing before the Devious Pokemon.
Galar Region, Ballonlea Gym
"Go, Helena! You can do it!" Helena looks up, seeing Nessa cheering on for her with a couple of trainers joining in. She smiles at the dark-haired trainer sitting on the benches,
Sonia stood on the sidelines, being the Referee just as Opal asked her to. "Are you ready to proceed, Ms. Potter? Because I am," Opal said, ready to educate what Ability Users can do.
"I'm ready, Opal!" Helena shouted from her end on the Battlefield.
Sonia cleared her throat, ready to set the rules. "This is an unofficial Pokemon Battle between the Gym Leader Opal and the trainer Helena." The orange-haired trainer announced. "This Battle will be one on one; the victor will be decided when either side's Pokemon are unable to Battle."
The orange-haired trainer raised her hands. "Now, bring out your Pokemon!"
Opal went first, having her Pokeball in her hand already. She smiles, pulling back her arm, "Alcremie, it's your time to shine!" She tossed the Pokeball onto the field, releasing her Partner.
Alcremie appeared, spinning in the air. "Alcremie!" She gleefully cheered.
Helena nodded, seeing that Opal has chosen her Partner. She looks at her Pokeball, wanting her to have some Battle experience. "Hatenna! Let's go!" She tosses her Pokeball onto the Battlefield, releasing the small Pokemon.
"Hatenna!" The Calm Pokemon cried cheerfully at her first Battle.
Hatenna turns to Helena, bouncing in place and raring to go. "Hatenna, this is going to be your first Pokemon Battle in a while." Helena stated, "It won't be like the simulation Battles in the Trainer School."
The Calm Pokemon nodded, understanding the difference between a simulation Battle and a real Battle.
"Now…Battle begin!" Sonia lowered her arms,

Opal prostrates her umbrella, "Helena we Ability Users can influence a Pokemon Battle to our advantage." The Ability User stated, "Allow me to demonstrate; Question: What is my favorite color?" She asked. "A: Purple, or B: Pink?"
Helena was taken aback by the sudden question. She flinched, realizing she needs to answer to continue the Battle. "Oh, um Pink?"
"Wrong answer my favorite color is Purple." The old Gym Leader stated, slamming her umbrella on the Battlefield, "Pink is something I like to see on others. Now, Alcremie, use Tackle!"
A blue aura appeared and then disappeared on the Cream Pokemon. "Alcremie!" She dashed forward and tackled Hatenna.
"HAT!" Hatenna was flung back by the impact, she didn't have time to even react.
"Hatenna, are you okay?" Helena saw her Partner land right in front of her. She looks up, curious about what was that light. "What was that now?"
The old Gym Leader smiles, raising her finger. "That was my Ability, I did tell you my Ability can affect the status of a Pokemon during Battles?" Opal asked, seeing if the young Ability User remembers.
Helena nodded, realizing that her questions can affect the Battle. "That's right." She looks at Hatenna, needing to be careful about how she answers. "Okay, Hatenna use let's slow Alcremie down with Nuzzle!"
"Hat! Hatenna!" The Psychic-type leaps forward, trying to nuzzle the Fairy-type Pokemon.
"Al, Al, Alcremie!" Alcremie dodges Hatenna's attempts to nuzzle her, each time she gets close she leaps to the side.
Nessa looks at how Alcremie was faster than the other Alcremies. "Ms. Opal must be using her Ability in this Battle, no wonder she's not holding back." She commented,
Opal smiles, looking up at the failed Nuzzle. "I think that's enough, Question! What are Fairy-types weak against? A: Water B: Steel C: Ground or D: Both A and B?" She asked.
"That's easy, Steel-type Pokemon!" Helena announced, knowing that Fairy-types are weak against Steel and Poison-type Pokemon.
"Correct!' Opal stated, lifting her umbrella and then placing it down.
"Hat!" Hatenna tumbles forward, missing the Cream Pokemon. Suddenly, she was engulfed in a red light before fading.
Helena blinks, recognizing those lights. "An Attack Boost?" She smirks, taking the advantage that was given to her. "Hatenna, Magical Leaf please!" She held out her hand, not noticing the faint light in her hands.
Opal saw the light in Helena's palms, she was interested in what that is. "How interesting, Alcremie, Mystical Fire!" She shouted.
"Hat!" Hatenna leaps in the air, generating a swirl of leaves before releasing them towards Alcremie.
The leaves hurl toward the Cream Pokemon at a fast rate.
However, Alcremie went into action by spinning her little arms. "Alcremie!" Flames generated in a swirl as they hurl toward the leaves.
The Mystical Fire burns through the Magical Leaf and directly hits Hatenna. "HAT!" The Calm Pokemon falls back to the ground.
Hatenna shook her head, getting over the Fire-type attack. "Hatenna!" She turns around, seeing her Partner with a worried expression on her face. "Are you okay? That was a powerful attack you held back there," She stated.
"Hatenna!" Hatenna nodded, confirming that she was all right.
"Great, I'm counting on you to do your best!" Helena stated with a smile.
Opal observes Helena as she spoke to the Psychic-type Pokemon. The light in her hands glowed brighter than before, almost like. She smiles, wanting to test something, "Helena, I think I may figure out what your Ability is."
Helena and the others looked at the former Witch, "You did?" She asked the Gym Leader.
Sonia was intrigued by what Opal just said. "I know that I'm supposed to Referee this Battle, but can you please elaborate, Opal?" The orange-haired trainer asked the old Gym Leader.
"It's simple, Child. Let me show you better than explaining," Opal held out Alcremie's Pokeball, "Now, return my dear!" She smiles as the beam went towards the Cream Pokemon.
"Alcremie!" Alcremie returned to her Pokeball,
Everyone who was watching the Battle began to chant, even Nessa chants. "What's going on?" Helena looks around her surroundings. Her attention returns back to Opal, watching her do something with the Pokeball.
Opal smiles, "See here Helena, this is what Galarian Pokemon Battles are all about!" She held both her hands as the Pokeball grew large into the size of a beachball.
"Hat?" Hatenna was shocked to see an old Lady was able a large Pokeball in her hands.
"This Battle will be Gigantic! Alcremie, it's time to Gigantamax!" Opal turns around, tossing the Pokeball up in the air.
The Pokeball opens, releasing Alcremie as she grew in size. "Al…cremie!" What was once a small frosting Pokemon is now a gigantic multi-layer cake-like Pokemon.
The crowds cheered loudly, chanting as usual when a Dynamax Battle was happening. The sky turns dark as clouds spiral around the Gym Stadium.
Helena steps back, taken aback by the Phenomena known as Dynamaxing or in this case, Gigantamaxing. "N-Now that is one big Pokemon!" She laughs, feeling excited already from the sight.
"Helena," Opal calls out to the young Ability User. "Do you remember when I say Ability Users sometimes have multiple Abilities? " She asked the black-haired trainer.
"Yeah,"
"Call back Hatenna and watch what happens!" The Fairy-type Gym Leader told the young trainer.
Helena quickly follow what Opal asked her to do. She took out Hatenna's Pokeball, finally noticing the white glow around her hands. "I-Is this…" She shook her head and aims the Pokeball at her Partner. "Hatenna, return!"
Hatenna returns back to her Pokeball. The next thing happened so quickly, the light began to engulf the Pokeball and began to enlarge to the same size as Opal's Pokeball. "W-W-Was that me-"
"Helena!" Helena turns to Sonia and Ness, smiling at her. "Toss the Pokeball!" Both girls exclaim, pointing to the Battlefield.
"R-Right! Hup!" Helena tossed her Pokeball back onto the Battlefield, releasing Hatenna as she grew in size.
"Ha…tenna!" Hatenna landed on the Battlefield, "HAT!" The Calm Pokemon cried out, ready to proceed.
Helena held her hair, blowing through the air from Hatenna's impact. "Ah…Ahahahaha! Look at you, Hatenna!" She smiles brightly at her large Pokemon. "You're big as a skyscraper!"
"HAT!" Hatenna answers with a happy face.
Nessa waves over to Helena, assisting her with the Battle. "Helena, use your Rotom Phone for Hatenna's Max Move set!" She informed the young trainer,
Helena nodded, taking out her Rotom Phone and pulling up Hatenna's Move sets. They were all different, however, they still had the same type moves.
Opal chuckles, seeing her theory has been proven right. "Now this is very interesting! Interesting indeed!" She exclaims excitedly, getting into the Battle. "Okay, Alcremie let's show how we veterans Battle, "G-Max Finale!" She exclaims.
Alcremie held her arms up, Stars began to fall onto the Battlefield.
"Hatenna, Max Overgrowth!" Helena quickly read the list, unsure what to do first.
Hatenna responded as a giant seed appear above her. "Hat!" She tosses the seed onto the Battlefield, causing gigantic plant life to grow around her.
The stars fall onto the mushrooms that grew from Hatenna's attack. "Great, follow up with Max Mindstorm!" Helena commanded,
Hatenna straightens up as rings from her head went straight for Alcremie. "Alcremie!" The Gigantamax Pokemon cried, gaining a headache from the attack.
"Alcremie, Max Flare!" Opal shouted, ready to end this Battle.
Alcremie pulls back before releasing a huge fireball at Hatenna.
"HAT!" Hatenna took on the damage, causing her to tumble back.
"Hatenna! No!" Helena cried out to her Partner, watching her go down,
(End Song)
Soon, the Battle was over. Hatenna reverted to her original size, having spirals in her eyes. "H…Hatenna…" She moans.
Sonia raised her hand to Opal's side, "Hatenna is unable to Battle, the victor goes to Alcremie and the Gym Leader Opal!" The orange-haired trainer announced.
Alcremie shrank to her regular form as the clouds above dissipate, returning to its regular dark sky.
"Alcremie," The Cream Pokemon made her way to Opal as her trainer approach the young trainer.
Opal watches as Helena picks up Hatenna, gently smiling at her. She saw that the Calm Pokemon giving her trainer a disappointed expression. "You did great, Hatenna. Winning isn't everything, as long you did your best, it all matters to me." Helena smiles.
Sonia and Nessa quickly came over to Helena, "You did great for your first Dynamax Battle, Helena." The dark-haired trainer commented,
"Especially when with your Abilities. Do you know you can do that?" Sonia asked Helena, curious about the Ability Users' powers.
Helena giggles, shrugging her shoulders. "No, I didn't, I guess it's just the heat of the Battle." She commented. "I wasn't sure if I could do it,"
"You can, all you need is the experience." Opal walks over, taking out an Oran Berry for Hatenna. "Helena, out of all the Ability Users I have met, you are by far the most special." She stated.
The black-haired girl took the Oran Berry from Opal, looking at her confusedly. "What do you mean by that, Opal?" She asked, feeding Hatenna the Berry.
Both Sonia and Nessa looked at the Fairy-type Gym Leader, listening to what she was going to say. "Helena, your Ability is very rare among us. In fact, I do believe you're the only one who can Dynamax a Pokemon without a Dynamax Band." She motions to the Band that Piers also has on his wrist.
"Oh my Arceus! That's really cool, Helena!" Nessa exclaims, excited to know their new friend was able to Dynamax without a Band.
Sonia nodded, seeing this as a rare opportunity to be seen. An Ability User with a rare Ability among Ability Users. "A rare gift for a kind person, a fitting thing to say." She commented.
"You girls are like my friends, they're excited about almost everything," Helena added as they laugh at what she said. She then turns to Opal, appreciating her help in discovering what she can do. "Opal, I want to thank you for helping me. I wouldn't have done it without you."
Opal nodded, "I would do anything for people who have the potential to be something more than they are now." The Fairy-type trainer stated, scratching her Alcremie on the head. She looks at Helena, giving her one felt of advice. "Helena, every Ability User can go beyond what they are now. However, the risk is greater, especially in the Children."
"As long as you have Pokemon around then you have nothing to worry about," Opal said, smiling at the young black-haired trainer.
Just then, Helena's Rotom Phone started to ring. "Oh, sorry everyone." She quickly picked up her Rotom Phone, answering whoever is calling her. "Hello?" She greeted the person.
-ZZZ- Helena, I'm glad you answer the call. I have something to inform you. -ZZZ- Adam said through the other end of the line.
"Yes, what is it, Professor?" Helena asked the blue and blonde-haired Professor.
-ZZZ- Ah, you're fired. -ZZZ-
"WHAT!?" Helena exclaims before hearing him chuckling from the other end.
Nessa covered her ears, not expecting Helena to scream like that. "Geez, Helena can you not screech like that?" She pleaded with her.
-ZZZ- Sorry, sorry, just a little prank to lighten the mood.-ZZZ- Adam apologizes while laughing at his Apprentice's reaction.
Helena sighs at her Mentor's mischievous side. "Professor, please don't joke around like that." She asked him. "Anyways, what was it you want to tell me?"
Adam cleared his throat, getting serious about the subject he was about to tell her. -ZZZ- Helena, change of plans with the trip. I receive an urgent call from my…(Ahem) Colleague…that trouble is brewing in Unova. -ZZZ- He informed his Apprentice. -ZZZ- She's the daughter of my Mentor, Professor Juniper. Things are troubling there, -ZZZ-
"Unova?" Helena looks at Nessa and Sonia, listening in to the conversation. "What's going on in the Unova Region, Professor?" She asked.
-ZZZ- I'll explain later, right now I want you to meet me back in Wedgehurst. We'll be leaving tomorrow. -ZZZ- Adam said, hanging up the phone call.
Helena looks at her pink Rotom Phone after the call ends. "So, you're leaving already?" She looks at Sonia and Nessa with sad looks in their eyes.
"Yeah, I know but I have to follow Professor Ceder since I'm his Assistant/Apprentice." Helena apologizes to the girls. "I know we have only gotten to know each other for a short while, but I feel like we really became friends."
Sonia nodded, understanding where Helena was coming from. "Yeah, but at least there's a next time." The orange-haired girl stated. "There's still a lot of places we wanted to show you."
"Don't forget." Nessa steps in, "We still need to introduce you to Leon,"
"Yeah, that's right our Champion!" Sonia smiles, thanking Nessa for reminding her.
Helena nodded, noting the plans they just made for next time. "I'll be sure to remember that you two." She smiles.
Opal looks at the young Ability User, seeing she's off to another adventure. "Young people, oh how I miss when I was a young firecracker." She looks at Helena, appreciating the time she gave "I appreciate the time we have spent together. Be sure to enjoy your Journey to the fullest, Helena."
"Know that you can always come back here in Ballonlea if you want to chat." The Ability User said, smiling at her.
Helena nodded, taking her words to heart. "I will and thank you."
Later that late afternoon, Helena, Sonia, and Nessa made it back to Wedgehurst where Helena began to pack for Unova.
