Finn threw his phone down on the couch and exclaimed to Colin, "Hot damn! Its coming together!"
Colin grinned at him, "So we need what... 14 more people to come to a dinner party? And who is this person who is going to be the 'new chef'?" he said with air quotes.
Finn dismissed his concern with a wave. "Eh, its fine. I will give the current chef a bonus and ask him to play along. He's used to me..."
Colin nodded. "Okay, did you reserve a dining room and hotel rooms?"
Finn sent a quick text, "Just did."
"What about the attendees? Who's coming to this soiree?" Colin prodded.
"Well, I will get some of the staff to come. It will be fine," Finn said.
"You're having dinner with the help? Really?" Colin asked with narrowed eyes.
"Oh my God! I don't care. I just want Rory and Logan to get together for dinner. Whatever else happens is fine," Finn said. "Oh, one more thing. I need to find a chick who is willing to play the part of my girlfriend of six months at the Yale gala."
Colin frowned at Finn and asked, "You don't think that Logan is going to be completely pissed at you if he finds out you orchestrated an entire fake dinner party just to get him and Rory together in the same room?"
Finn grinned a Cheshire cat grin. "Nope. This is the story I'm going to tell when I toast them one day at their anniversary party in 50 years!"
"What if you did all this and she doesn't show?"
"She'll show up."
As soon as Rory hit the New York City city limits, she decided to go to see Stewart at the hospital. She planned to ask him to take a break and if they could talk. She knew what she had to say and she needed to say it very, very soon.
Once she parked in the parking garage, she marched in the Emergency Department and went to the desk. "Hi, is Stewart Anderson available? I need to speak with him," she said to the person at the triage desk.
"Who?" asked the desk clerk.
"Um, Dr. Anderson. He's a resident, I think he's been in this department maybe a month?" Rory tried to explain who he was amongst the vast sea of medical residents in the program.
"Are you his patient?" the woman asked Rory.
"No, he's my boyfriend. I thought I would drop by and surprise him," Rory said slowly.
"Oh," she said while vigorously typing on the computer. "Well, you're going to have to surprise him someplace else. Because he's not on the schedule today," she said with a shrug.
"Are you sure? He told me he worked from Friday through Monday," Rory questioned the woman.
"Honey, I don't know where he is but he isn't here. We generally can't give out staff schedules. You should call him directly to find him," She told Rory.
Rory was confused. She knew what he'd told her. "Right, sure. Thank you," she said as she backed away from the desk and walked toward the exit.
Right before she reached the door, she ran into another guy that she knew from Stewart's last rotation. "Hi, Dr. Wong? Do you remember me?" she asked.
"Yes, of course. Rory, right?" She nodded, "Please call me Andrew," he said.
She smiled, "Thanks, Andrew. Have you seen Stewart? I came to visit him and the nurse said he isn't working this weekend. Maybe I got confused?"
Andrew shook his head, "No, I haven't seen him here all weekend and I've been here since Thursday. Sorry, Rory. Your wires probably got crossed," he said.
"Yeah, probably," she said with a frown. "Thanks. Hey, have a good day."
"You too! Its always good to see you!" he said with a smile as she left.
Rory marched to her car and decided to go straight to Stewart's apartment. Something felt off and she needed to know what was going on.
As she approached his building, she noticed him leaving the building with a young, pretty brunette. She was a woman that Rory had never seen before. She was tiny - petite and probably a size zero. Stewart had his arm around her and once they got to the sidewalk, they stopped to hail a cab. Before the hailing motion happened, he scooped her up in his arms and gave her a long, tender kiss. It was obvious that this was NOT their first kiss. They seemed very close and intimate. Once they parted, he hailed the cab. They got in and left. Rory watched the entire interaction from her car on the other side of the street. She knew she should feel sick, because she was being cheated on. But she didn't. She felt free. She had been avoiding breaking up with him because she didn't want to hurt him. Now, that was no longer a factor.
She decided to pick up her phone and give him a call. She was surprised but he dared to answer the phone. "Hello? Rory?"
"Hey, how are you?" she asked innocently.
"I'm good. Its super busy here. I'll have to call you later," he said awkwardly.
"At the hospital?" she asked.
"Yeah, here in the ED. Things are crazy," he said with an even voice.
Rory pursed her lips as she listened to his lie. "Really? That's funny. Because I was just there to see you and you weren't there."
"Um, of course I'm here. Just treating patients like usual," he said.
"So the brunette in the blue dress is a patient?" He was silent. "Are you treating her in the taxi you just climbed into?"
"Ummm, Rory. I told you I needed to talk to you," he stammered.
"We don't need to talk anymore. We're done," she said. Before he could say anything else, she disconnected the call and tossed the phone on her passenger seat.
