"I still don't understand how you got moved off campus," Rocky said as Thomas put another box down in the small Power Ranger apartment that Theo had moved him to. After the last episode with his soulmate connection- they all knew that prioritizing his relationship was more important than him being on campus. Kimberly couldn't freely visit the campus and this made it easier for them to have time with each other.
Theo had been great with helping Kimberly understand how she could help him, but had also not been as blunt with her as they had been with him. Robert and Theo had sat him down and given him the full gambit of what could continue to happen and the things that would help the most. He was determined that everything would be on her timeline, not his, but that also meant that he had to focus on everything else being solid.
"It's not for fun, Rocky," Thomas said as his friends stilled and he let out a long sigh. He had not really talked with them about it, but he was tired of them not just asking the questions. "I nearly took out the entire Academy because my soulmate connection was strained. It's why my schedule was changed, it's why they moved me near Angel Grove High School, it's why…"
"They finally told you," Jason said as Thomas looked around at all of them and realized that none of them were surprised. "They kind of let it slip the day you clocked my ass for suggesting I get a shot. Sooooo…what does this really mean?"
"Prioritizing getting our connection stable-more than everything else," Thomas said as he heard a knock at the door and glanced over to see that he had completely lost track of time. He wanted to kick his friends out, but didn't feel like that was actually a smart thing to do. "Let me get that."
"Hey," Kimberly said and he immediately felt some of the tension leave his body. He wasn't sure that he would ever get used to how immediate the relief was when she was near him. It was like he was coil wound tight and her presence relieved the pressure. "I picked up Clueless and popcorn."
"Rocky and Jason are still helping get stuff unpacked," Thomas said as she nodded in understanding. He took her bag and then motioned for her to follow him.
"Hey Kim!" Rocky called as she walked into the living room and she shook her head. For some reason, he was always cheerful when she came around. She wasn't sure if Thomas had scared them into being nice to her or if this was just his normal demeanor. "Movie night?"
"Yeah," Kimberly said as she settled on the opposite end of the couch and he nodded in appreciation. "Do you guys want to stay?"
"Nah, we've got another session after dinner. Someone…gets to skip out on those now," Rocky said as Thomas rolled his eyes. Just about every instructor at the Academy agreed that he had had more than enough fight training in his life. "Speaking of- we should get going or we'll be late."
"You timed her getting here right when we'd have to leave, didn't you?" Jason asked as Thomas gave him a guilty look and he shook his head. "Dude- at some point- we're going to all hang out."
"But not today," Thomas said as Rocky chuckled before he patted Thomas on the shoulder and then frog marched Jason out of the apartment. Thomas took a moment to enjoy the silence and then looked back to see that Kimberly was watching him. He doubted that either of them would make it through the movie, as they both tended to get comfortable and then fall asleep. It was so bad that he had started setting a timer to wake them up, mostly so he could get her home at a decent time. "Want to make the popcorn while I get the movie started?"
"Come here," Kimberly said as he walked over to her and she pulled him down onto the couch next to her. She closed her eyes for a moment and then let out a sigh. All of his senses went on high alert as he had learned that this usually meant she was going to talk with him about something that she had been working herself up to. Sometimes it was for a day and other times it was for weeks. "How are you?"
"I'm good…" Thomas trailed off as he gave her a confused look and she just stared at him with a look that clearly said he should know what she was asking about. "Oh…that. I've only had one slight flare, it seems like things are settling down for me. Are you okay?"
"I…I don't know how to explain us and people have been asking and I just…" Kimberly trailed off as he brushed her hair back and trailed his fingers down her neck. He gently massaged one of her shoulders as he could see the tension and he also needed to buy himself a bit of time. They were soulmates, but that didn't mean that he could forget about making things clearer for her.
"You're my girlfriend…unless you don't want to be…and then that is going to make some things really awkward," Thomas said as she gave him a startled look. "You'd rather me have asked you?"
"Yeah, but you aren't wrong," Kimberly retorted as she just shook her head. "How does this go for us? Is it just as simple as we're soulmates and that's it? We're both done looking."
"Kind of, but…I mean…I still plan to ask you to marry me someday. I still want us to have a normal wedding. I guess…I guess it's just easier because I know we're supposed to be together. I also know how lucky I am and I'm not going to forget that," Thomas finished in a whisper as he stared at the floor. He had just said more about what his plans were for the future than he ever thought he would tell her right now. He hoped that it didn't scare her, but he knew where he was. "You're it. I'm done looking."
"You better be. It kind of messes up the soulmate thing if you go looking around," Kimberly said as she leaned up and placed her face extremely close to his. He took the opportunity to steal a kiss and when he pulled back she just smiled at him. "I really just want a nap."
"Okay," Thomas said as he unwrapped himself. He tossed her a blanket and a pillow before he set a timer on the oven for two hours. It wasn't nearly enough for either of them, but it was enough to help stave off any repercussions. When he came back to the living room, she had created a bit of a cocoon. He squeezed behind her and she rolled around to where she could bury her face in his chest. She quickly dozed off and he soon joined her. This afternoon his dreams haunted him as he knew that this was only a taste and he wanted the whole thing.
