"Well, that was something." Hiccup nervously chuckled. Toothless padded up to him and laid down. He pressed his head into Hiccup's side.
"Love you." His voice muffled by Hiccup's body. Hiccup slid his hands over the dragon's head, scratching and pulling at his mate's scales.
"I'm sorry that I'm such a hassle."
"You're not a hassle." Toothless hummed. "Far from it." He moved his head so Hiccup's talented fingers dug further into his skin. Hiccup smiled softly as Toothless vibrated his body with his purring.
"Thanks for trying to get everyone to include me in things." He continued to crush his fingers and knuckles into the dragon's skull.
"Humans are social creatures too. You need more than just me to talk to. I know you're not the most social of your species. The problem is that when you do talk to others, no one can stop you. You love interaction. You love telling tell people about our adventures, how we used to live, how we met. And as much as I love listening to you. And the days where you just tell me stories for hours and hours. They're some of my favorite days because you're very talented. You're imagination is crazy. I don't know how you can come up with all those stories on the spot like that. Which by the way, I think helps you comes up with plans for us. Which I think is a good trait to have in a leader. It's what helps you adapt, I think." Hiccup stopped scratching Toothless, allowing him to flip over. Hiccup slowly rubbed Toothless' stomach and chest. Hiccup treasured the smoother, less defined scales on his underbelly. He could barely believe that Toothless trusted him enough to allow him full access to the softest, weakest part of his body. He pushed his fingers into the skin, watching the scales push and separate from each other. Feeling the malleable skin rub against the palm and fingers of his hand. He looked up from his hand to find Toothless looking at him.
He locked eyes with the dragon. The dragon's eyes captivated him. He couldn't explain how but whenever he locked eyes with the dragon he could never look away. They locked him in and wouldn't let him escape. His skin rose up, the small bumps running from from head to toe. He could almost feel himself losing control of his body as he was drawn further in. Toothless blinked, breaking the spell. Hiccup pulled away from the dragon.
"What was that?" Hiccup asked.
"What? What's wrong." Toothless flipped, and turned around.
"I don't know. I was locked in. I like, I don't know, lost control, I couldn't look away. It was like I got lost in your eyes."
Toothless chuckled. "I don't know if you're trying to be romantic, or not."
"No. It was like I was trapped, I wanted to look away but I couldn't."
"Were you afraid?"
"No, but I couldn't look away. I don't know. It was just scary." Hiccup wrapped his arms around himself.
"Hiccup, I don't know what to tell you. I'll try to recognize it if it happens again."
"If it happens again, I'm going to try to embrace it. I got lost and, I was scared, but not afraid. Maybe I could power through it. I don't know, It was just really odd. Toothless wrapped himself around Hiccup.
"Well I was going to go hunt but maybe I'll stay." Hiccup placed his hand on the dragon's head.
"I would agree with you but I'm hungry, and you already took away that other deer. I would go myself but I don't know the area well enough. I'm afraid that I'll walk into some others on accident." Toothless chuckled at him.
"That would be pretty funny. But you're right. Alright." Toothless stood back up and stretched. "Okay then. I'll be back. Toothless hopped off into the surrounding forest and only moments after that he could no longer hear him. Hiccup slowly stood up and slowly walked around there sanctuary. As he walked, he touched and inspected the major areas. He started with the sleeping area that they had. He scooped up a hand full of the sand and dirt and allowed it to slowly slip between his fingers. He picked up some of the soft leaves and pinched one between his index and thumb. Rubbing it between his fingers, Hiccup recalled the previous night. His body warmed over as the memories flooded into him. Once his legs could carry him again, he stood back up.
He wandered over to the large bloodstain which recently held a deer. He stared down at the blood and wondered about what Toothless had told them. How had they end up on the island? It was so far away from everything else that they couldn't have made it there themselves. Hiccup came to the conclusion that someone must have brought there. And he wanted to know why they were near the Island, how long ago that was, and if they know how to get there again. He made a mental note to ask some of the oldest of his hoard about it. He walked off towards the hot spring.
He stood over the hot spring, wanting to get into it again. "If Toothless wasn't my mate you would be." He giggled to himself. He watched the water slowly bubble. The bubbles forming under the sand in bottom of the pool. He wondered how it worked, and sat there for so long that Toothless returned and had been watching him for nearly half an hour.
"Whatcha doing Hiccup?" Hiccup jumped and spun around. He came eye to eye with the dragon sitting only a foot away. His nose was basically touching Hiccup be before he moved. Hiccup stomped his foot.
"How do you do that? Every time. It's like you're a damn ghost. Do you even breath? I mean, how close were you, and I didn't notice. How?" He started to inspect Toothless' face. He grabbed and stretched the dragon's hide, trying to find something that would make him so silent. He let go of Toothless' face and started to circle around him. He grabbed his wing and pulled it out to full length. Hiccup ran his fingers over the smooth membrane, amazed at the subtle web pattern that went through the whole wing. Carefully Hiccup ran his fingers down the delicate bones. He'd seen other dragons who had broken the bones in their wings. It wasn't anything uncommon. A bad landing could snap them easily.
Toothless, along with all the other dragons were very lucky that their bodies heal so quickly.
