Hiccup's time to think was running out. He'd watched every one of the alphas closely. Finding their strengths and weaknesses. Observing their speech patterns and how they moved around. He was amazed at how different they were while still being very similar. He even noticed how down to a science they had it. So much so that all of their speeches were structured the same.

It would start with them doing a generally basic greeting, consisting of welcoming everyone, then congratulating them on a successful year. They would then talk about the other alphas, never in any negative light. At the end of the day, although they were technically enemies, they were friends.

Much like any community who watches out for each other. The alphas who have territory help each other. Help and if need be, send people to fight for them. As much as it was a game to be the 'best' alpha, whatever that meant to them, life was no game to them. Calling someone out or just flat out attacking them was almost universally negative. There were exceptions but not many. There were so few in fact that even the smallest of missteps in using one could have dire penalties against you or your people.

"Well Hiccup." Toothless whispered. "We're, or well, you're up next. What do you think? You going to go at it this year, or let you collect your thoughts and come back very prepared next year?"

Hiccup took a minute to think. On one hand he did want to speak. Being an alpha meant it was almost mandatory. But on the other, most of the dragons didn't know he was an alpha. Although many had seen him on the platform with the others.

"Will you come up there with me?" Hiccup asked.

"If that's what you want. I'll gladly go up there with you." Toothless confirmed. Hiccup took a deep breath and walked onto the platform. He looked out to all the dragons sitting around, waiting for someone to walk on, or for them to be dismissed. The talking had almost immediately stopped. Hiccup could see the confusion on some of the faces. Most were focused on the Night Fury, who for them, was the most important thing up there. Even if he simply sat down and was doing nothing. Hiccup continued to walk around, trying to figure out how he was going to talk. Figure out how he was going to convince people to come to him. He caught the Changewing alpha's eye. He'd forced himself forward, so that he was in the front row. He nodded at Hiccup, and smiled.

Hiccup began to wonder how people were going to hear him. He felt that the others weren't speaking very loud but the dragons in the back could still hear them. He walked back towards Toothless.

"Wish me luck."

"No need."

Hiccup stepped towards the edge of the platform and began to walk around it.

"Hello everyone." He said loudly. He noticed there was something special about the spot. His voice seem amplified. As if even whispering would reach the farthest of people. He continued to walk. "This is the first time that I've been here. But from what I've been told it's been a great year. You may have noticed that there are a significant number more of you this time around. Well for those who don't know yet, the Red Queen is dead. With that brings a new era. One that doesn't involve a monster controlling your loved ones. Losing those who got too close.

In her place." He looked back at Toothless. "We have taken over in her place. And we are hoping that we can return that area to what it once was. A place where you can feel safe. A place that people will come to willingly. That being said, I'm sure that any of the alphas here would keep you safe. That is our job after all.

I will admit that we are still new to this. Still perfecting things that I'm sure all of the others have figured out. But we are working towards making our system better everyday. Making it so that our people have the best time they can. Have the best lives they can. That's what we want for our people.

If you want to give us a chance, I thank you." He walked back towards Toothless, and hugged him. The couple walked off towards the other alphas.

"Nice job." The Nightmare complimented. "Short, simple, eased their minds, and told the truth. I don't think there was a better way to do what you did. I would expect a good influx of new people. Especially because they're going to want to ask why you look like that." He laughed. "But I think you'll do good kid, especially with that Night Fury watching your back. I don't want to get on his bad side at least." He laughed again.

The others congratulated him as well. Hiccup felt refreshed knowing that the others thought that he'd done well.

"So what's next?" He asked Toothless.

"Well since it's the last day we'll head home here in a bit. I'm pretty sure that each of us will get a portion of the island to regroup, then we'll migrate back for the year. It'll take a few hours to get everyone organized and ready, plus new arrivals who will need to know the way."

"Do you think there are going to be people who join us right now?"

"Yeah. Some people make their decision right away. But a lot don't so we'll have to see. You have to remember that we're going to lose people too." Hiccup frowned. "I wouldn't worry too much about it though. You gave them the chance to leave when we got there, and not a whole lot of them left then. Things have only got better, so don't worry." Hiccup nodded. They began to make there way towards one of the beaches to relax until they had to leave. Hiccup sat down, pushed his toes under the sand, hands behind him. Toothless laid down behind him. Hiccup sighed happily.

"This was nice. I'm happy we came."

"I'm glad we did as well. You did just as well as I thought you would."

"Did you really think that I wasn't going to mess that up? There is no way."

"To be completely truthful, there was a very small part of me where I thought I would have to step in. But other than that little bit, I had no doubt. I know that when you're under pressure that you thrive. You figure something out everytime, and it may not be a permanent fix but it's normally enough to come up with a better solution."

They sat around waiting for people to show up. Sooner rather than later dragons began to show up.
