Justice Across Space and Time
Chapter 12
This took a little longer than I thought. I took some advice from a few other stories people have commented on and I'm trying to adjust my formatting. This chapter will also be a bit shorter since there isn't a battle or anything. Now, on with the show
(no POV)
At the Shie Hissaki headquarters the police were storming the remains of the building. It was nearing midnight when the call came into the police that something had happened. They had planned to call some heroes, but it seemed like most from the area were avoiding the place.
When they and a few heroes arrived, they saw the remains of what must have been a huge battle. The building itself looked like it had been remodeled inside and out. Not to mention was much larger than they originally believed.
It took a while, but they managed to find the members who were supposed to live in the building. Many of them were in very rough shape. Missing limbs, cuts across their bodies, and a terrified look on their faces while muttering something about a monster sword. "If this is a joke, I'm not laughing captain. What happened here?" a man with green hair, yellow eyes, and wearing a formal suit asked the police captain who had called him in.
This was Sir Nighteye, former sidekick to All Might and the man who had been investigating the Yakuza and the Shie Hissaki for a while now. "I honestly don't know. We got a call from a few residents about 11:30 that something was happening at this location." The stone-faced (literally in this case) officer told the Pro. "They weren't the ones across the street, however. The ones who called were about three streets down."
The captain went on to explain that most of the nearby residents were away from their homes at this time. They even had proper alibies to back up their statements. 'These must be some of the thugs who the Yakuza employed. Whoever did this counted on that they would be away for other reasons.' Nighteye mused as he looked at the images of the people who lived across the street from the hideout. While he was thinking he saw the members he had been investigating being wheeled out on stretchers.
"Seems whoever did this did quite a number on these men." "That's for sure. Three members are missing limbs. We followed what looked like an impact outline of one of the members and found him floating in the ocean unconscious. The others have multiple broken bones and similar."
The thought of who could have done this ran through Nighteye's mind more than anything else. The how or why were important but not the most pressing matter. From what was described only someone on par with All Might could have done some of this damage. But no one was on that level.
Sir Nighteye was pulled out of his thoughts by his cell phone ringing. He was tempted to ignore it but the fact it was coming from a pay phone not too far from his agency made him curious. "Hello? Who is this?" he asked more out of habit than anything. "This is Sir Nighteye correct?"
At said person's affirmative the voice on the line continued. "I'm guessing you are currently at the Shie Hissaki hideout right now, yes? Don't ask how I know for now. I need you to come back to your office. You can bring the police. I have information and a few other matters to discuss with you regarding the incident at your current location. I'll be waiting in front of your agency."
With that said the person on the hung up. Nighteye was unsettled by the whole matter but knew this could be a big help to know what happened. He told the captain he needed a few of his men and they hurried back to his agency.
When they got there, they were all stunned by the sight. Sitting in front of his office was a man who fit some of the last word descriptions of some heroes. This man fit the description of the Hero Killer. The strangest thing though was that he was sitting on the front step to his agency, with two swords in front of him and what appeared to be a young girl in his arms who was sleeping.
The police called for backup and took aim with their guns. But the villain made no aggressive moves toward them. He just sat there before addressing Nighteye, "You are the former sidekick of All Might yes?"
"I am. Who is the young girl there? And how is it you know about what happened with the yakuza?" With that confirmation, the Hero Killer stood up and asked one of the officer's if they could take the girl.
Once that was done and she was further away, he picked up the swords that were on the ground and handed them to Nighteye. "The girl was a captive of the yakuza. They used her blood to make weapons and drugs. An associate recruited me to save her and take them down." When he said that, Nighteye and the police were just stunned. A villain recruited by a vigilante? And now said villain is giving us information? "I'm confused. You are the Hero Killer are you not?" At the man's nod, Nighteye presses on. "Then why help take the yakuza down? And can you tell me who the person who recruited you is?"
With a small smile, the Hero Killer starts in with, "Chizome. My name is Chizome. And as for why: the people who recruited me reminded me of what it means to be a hero. Trying to save someone. They wanted to do it, but they needed assistance. They showed and helped me see things I wasn't willing to believe in for quite a while."
Nighteye was surprised by the calm almost serene way the man described matters. Was this really the same crazed killer who had been on a tear through the hero community? "As for who it was that recruited me, I don't know. I never got their names. But I can tell you they are the ones who have been behind some of the take downs of various groups. Rather than the fake heroes." With that Nighteye is more unsettled about the whole matter. Chizome on the other hand just smiles a bit and thinks back a few minutes.
(Flashback)
As the two warriors made their way to the agreed rendezvous point, Saphentite was holding Eri and humming to her. She was asleep but woke up when Jotaro landed on the rooftop. "It is done." Chizome said taking off his helmet. He didn't know how but even with the older woman's hood down he couldn't tell what she looked like. "Thank you for helping with this Chizome. All that's left is to get this girl-"
"Eri" Saphentite said. When the two looked to her she said, "Her name is Eri." "Right Eri. We need to get her to Nighteye. He's at least trustworthy and we need to pass the info to convict the yakuza." With nods all around from the adults, Eri was sitting there confused.
Jotaro noticed this and said to her, "Don't worry. You don't have to be afraid of us, and we aren't afraid of you." He reached up and patted her head gently which surprised her, but she quickly grew accustomed to it. Saphentite decides to take this time to hand her to Jotaro. Who in turn just takes her in his arms and starts humming to her.
Eri eventually starts to fall asleep again. "Are you sure you're okay with this?" Saphentite asks Chizome, offering to help him get out. "I'm sure. It's time I face my own justice. I'll take the girl to Nighteye as well as the information you gave me." With that nod given they quietly fly over to the Nighteye agency and Chizome uses a pay phone to call the hero.
(Flashback end)
With the capture of both Stain and the defeat of the Shie Hissaki, many were wanting to claim credit for this matter. Especially from the police and local heroes. "This was a victory thanks to an outside source. I don't care what the commission may want to say, I will not accept credit for this matter." Nighteye told the representative and police chief. "And that is why you are closer than most to being a true hero Sir Nighteye." Chizome says as the police walk him to transport van.
At hearing that Nighteye stops them and asks what he meant. "Too much of this society is built around a warped version of a hero. Most are in it for fame, prestige, money etc. You and a few others, including the ones who recruited me, are true heroes. They only want to help people. They aren't just looking to play with their powers. That was why I helped them. And that is why I will only see All Might, the various vigilantes that are out there doing the right thing, and a little bit you as heroes."
At hearing this Nighteye and a few police are stunned, and a bit moved. Nighteye himself thought back to All Might and how impressive he was. And what he inspired. "He may be a madman and a killer, but his focus on heroes may be from a genuine place." Nighteye says out loud, while two figures watch from a distant building. And with a nod they disappear into the night.
