"I see." Stoic stroked at his beard.
Hiccup scooted himself over to the edge and called for someone to join them. The dragon who happened to show up was a Hideous Zippleback who came up from behind him. They twisted their necks back to face their alpha.
"You called?" Their voices echoing each other.
"Hmm. Well that's sorta convenient that you two have shown up. I need you two, to go to the human ship and retrieve their weapons for me. There should be six s we qwords laying on the top deck. Retrieve them and bring them back to me please.
"Giving the humans their weapons?" The left head asked. "That's bold of you." The right head followed.
"Yes well getting the human group out of here is one of my top priorities right now. And as much as I'd like to simply have them taken home, those weapons can be more important to them then their partners." Hiccup chuckled to himself.
"Okay then, we'll be back." The heads snaked back out of Hiccup's sight and the green body of the Zippleback slipped from the shelf.
Hiccup rejoined the group of leaders and Death Song had joined them. The other three alphas were looking to each other trying to silently figure out why it was there.
"Hiccup? What is a Death Song going here? Are they with you?" The Nadder leader asked. Her tail puffed up a bit defensively. Hiccup stood up and started to circle around the group towards the bright orange dragon.
"No it's not with me." Hiccup looked at the beautiful pattern on its wings. "So our new friend, why are you here? Hiccup smiled. "But before you say anything, know that I'm immune to your song. So don't try anything funny.
"No no I'm not here to hurt anyone. There a Bewilderbeast headed this way. It took out nearly half of the island I was living on. It didn't try to get out of the way at all. And with the way it was going it's obviously coming here. I came to warn you."
"Well thank you. But we've known of the Bewilderbeast's movements since this morning.
Tell me did you happen to hear any of its flock talking about what they were doing? We're readying for a battle. So I suggest you get away from here."
"No I'll fight. That island was sacred to me and my family. We lived there for generations and now it's all gone."
"I don't trust a Deathsong in our ranks Hiccup. These things go crazy and start singing, it'll take everyone out around them." The Nightmare said. The flaps on the side of the Deathsong's head laid flat against its neck. Hiccup ignored the comment and looked over their new friend.
"Are you hurt?" Hiccup asked lightly taking a wing into his fingers and pulling on it to extend it.
"No, I was in my cave luckily when it hit my island. I'd probably be an ice block if I had been anywhere else." The Deathsong explained.
"Male, female?"
"I'm female." She said. Hiccup smiled.
"Had any kin?"
"I've had one yes." Everyone was wondering why Hiccup was going down such an odd line of questioning.
"Did you ever sing to put your child to sleep? Can you sing lullabies?"
"Yes I can." She replied.
"Hiccup that's too dangerous." The Nightmare alpha growled. "Deathsongs can't be trusted. You'll never know when they could betray you. And it'll be too late when they do."
"That's true Hiccup." Toothless' familiar voice said. "There's a reason that they live alone, or with very few of their own kind." Toothless' voice rested behind Hiccup. Hiccup sighed and looked at the brightly colored dragon.
"Her home was nearly completely destroyed by the Bewilderbeast. I don't think she had much choice other than to see what it's heading towards." Hiccup said. What Hiccup said kept Toothless quiet, making enough sense to not push it any further.
"Hiccup I don't know what you're planning but the sight of that Deathsong could make people more nervous than they already are." The Nadder squawked. Hiccup waved his hand dismissively.
"Toothless who's being sent to defend The Edge?"
"As of right now I have the group that normally scouts for Berserk Island to cover the air, and Black and Blue's fishing team was being sent to defend the waters." Toothless explained. Hiccup nodded.
"I see." Hiccup looked long and hard at the Deathsong. "I want to make you a deal."
"Hiccup." Toothless scolded.
"I'm not turning a valuable resource away because you think they're not trustworthy." Hiccup stared into the eyes of the Deathsong. "The deal is this. I have acquired more than enough land to expand to. So you will go with my team to defend The Edge. What you are defending are fledglings and nest mothers. You will defend them, with your life if you have to.
In return when the battle is over I will gift you a new island that you may live on. You won't be bothered often. Likely only by my people, who'd only likely stop there after a long flight.
If you're okay with those terms you may follow my mate down to meet the team that you'll be working with. If not, you may leave back to the place you came. And know that if I live through this potential battle and that if you betray me, I will personally hunt you down. And you will become one of the skins that I sleep on at night. So think about it, you have a little time.
If you want someone to talk to about joining my flock there's a Firework Princess in the lower levels. She's been here for longer than I have but she might be someone good to speak with since they live in a similar way to you're kind do.
And I'd like you to know that I'm not normally like this. But right now I don't trust you. So do good by me here and you'll get my trust.
