"If it's cheating to have someone cheer you on and help when needed, so be it. Not like it's an actual game of Maces and Talons anyway. There's no rules against having more than one player." Hiccup laughed. Hiccup moved forward. "Mind if I cuddle up with you for a bit?"
"Yes please do." Toothless moved himself into a better position, allowing Hiccup to crawl next to him and lay down. He placed his head onto Toothless outstretched leg. "Tired or something?" Toothless asked as he placed his wing over Hiccup.
"Yeah kinda. I think everything is sorta catching up with me now that we have a little more breathing room than we thought. So I'm going to rest my eyes for a bit before we head back inside with everyone. And since we have to wait for Color and company to return to us now I'm wondering if all this stress we've put on everyone was worth it. Like we've been putting them on notice about getting attacked and now we don't even know if they're coming for us."
"Well if anything we can assume that Color will figure out what to do. We do know that she's smart enough and her, and her team are capable of handling anything thrown at them. So we know that they'll be back and we'll know more then. For now we keep everyone on a short leash and wait. It sucks but our wait is longer and taken some wind out of our wings. But giving most of our people back their regular lives will help. For those who are displaced right now we get them to fit in for now and figure out what's in the future later.
I think we've done the right thing and brought everyone back. It's just waiting to see if we can send those who had to come back, back out to their normal post."
"I just hope we can get back to normal sooner rather than later. I already miss our regular life."
"Yes, so regular. Leading a flock of dragons. Having to keep everyone happy and healthy. Prevent everyone from killing one another."
"Well it's regular for us." Hiccup yawned.
"That's fair I suppose. I suppose we'll never have what many would consider normal."
"And I wouldn't have it any other way." Hiccup smiled.
"Of course you wouldn't. Rather be running through hell fire than relaxing in a hot spring. Not like I have much to say. But I've also willingly walked into the hellfire with you so… There's that."
"That's true. But also the last time we were at a hot spring, I ended up being pretty much unable to walk for the next couple of days. So it's not like those are much safer for me anyways." Hiccup smiled knowingly. Toothless curled himself into his mate and pressed his snout against Hiccup's head.
"I didn't hear any complaining. Or well. Complaining that wasn't you moaning for me to go faster or harder, or both. So does it really count if it's good hurt?" Hiccup was blushing hard, and covered his face. "That's what I thought." Toothless moved his head to a more comfortable position. "Nap if you'd like. That's my plan for now." Toothless said. Hiccup squirmed around a little to get more comfortable.
"Sorry for running through hellfire." Hiccup whispered.
"It's more fun than sitting around, so don't worry." Toothless reassured his mate. Hiccup hummed in response. Toothless listened for Hiccup's light snoring before readjusting himself so that he could lay his head down next to Hiccup's. He readjusted Hiccup's head position with his snout to stop Hiccup's snoring. He took a slow deep breath, taking in Hiccup's scent. Helping him calm down even further.
'If there were versions of us from before, I hope they loved each other as much as we do. I wish I had the words for how much you really mean to me. I don't know how you've overcome so much in your life already. But I hope all this stress goes away eventually. I love that you worry, but it's hard to watch sometimes. I just hope that everything I say to you gets through. Even if it doesn't I'm sure I'll sit you down again and try to convince you you're doing fine. Better than fine. Amazing. Who else but you could be doing this right now? A human, or well, hybrid I guess, leading dragons. And you're succeeding.
Makes me wonder how much longer our kind would have left if you had grown up hating us. How long would it have taken you to get through the fog? To create weapons that we couldn't fight against? Your mind is so dangerous, yet here you are. Pressed against me. Completely terrified of yourself, worried every move you make will have someone hating you. I hope that one day you'll learn to walk tall, without fear in your heart and doubt in your mind. And I'll be there every step of the way.' Toothless thought to himself. He opened the eye that wasn't pressed into his mate's head, and looked over Hiccup. 'Gods please let that Bewilderbeast not be on a warpath. I'd like to have my mate safe for as long as I can. Preferably without any new scars. Or worse.' Toothless sorta prayed. He reclosed his eye and fell asleep.
When he awoke Toothless found himself alone. Which made him hop up and instantly start to panic.
"Hiccup!" He called out.
"I'm over here." The familiar voice called back. Toothless went towards the voice but couldn't find Hiccup.
"Hiccup where are you?" Toothless called out again. This time Hiccup didn't respond right away and Toothless started to quickly search the area trying to find Hiccup. He cursed the boy's white scales, and skin in the dense fog. He called to Hiccup again and got an immediate return.
"I'm down here, I think I see you." Hiccup said. Toothless was able to pinpoint Hiccup's spot and landed next to him.
"Thank the gods, you're okay." Toothless huffed.
"It's not like I was in any danger Toothless."
"I'm not saying you are but what if you had slipped or something?" He looked at Hiccup, who had looked away a little ashamed. "Hey look Hiccup I know I'm being a little overbearing and that it's not very fair for me to say something like that. But the fog is dangerous and if something had happened. Well you would've been the first human to die out here.
I know you're probably feeling a little couped up being here all the time and you want to explore. I understand that. It was kinda our plan while running from your dad. So if you want to come out here to explore and climb around and have a little fun it's fine. But please don't do it without me or someone else watching you. Cause even I had trouble spotting you just now. You blend in a little too well out here.
How about this? I'll join you. We can explore the fog together. I won't even fly. I'll climb around with you just the same."
"You're not overbearing." Hiccup stepped forward and took Toothless' head into his hands. You're just a concerned lover, and I can't fault you for that. I'd probably be just the same as you if you were human."
"Gods I couldn't even imagine. Just having to learn how to walk on two legs. Could you imagine that?" The pair laughed.
"Well it doesn't matter what you are. I probably would have fell in love no matter what."
"Even if I was a worm? Or something like that?"
"Well… If I was absolutely sure it was you then yes."
