"Do you have any more questions you'd like to ask? I did promise that I would share information as a part of our alliance." Hiccup stood up and walked the short distance away to a storage chest. He rummaged through it for a few seconds before pulling something out and coming back towards the group. He put down what he'd brought except for a long metal rod. He grabbed the meat Toothless provided and started to push the rod through it. "Would any of you like any of this?" Hiccup asked. "Or something else to eat. We have plenty to go around, or well enough to go around." Once done spearing his meal, he set up the legs of the spit roast and placed his and Toothless' dinner of the fire. The smell nearly instantly made his mouth water. He sat back down and watched his dinner cook.
A few of the other dragons got up and left. But swiftly returned with food for them and their humans. Even Skull crusher dropped a big salmon in Stoick's lap. Suddenly they were having a feast with a variety of meats and fish. Hiccup was the first to take his off the fire. Using one of his claws to cut into the side of the meat that was facing the fire and cutting a section off for himself. The group of humans watched him as he bit into what was basically a still raw slab of deer. He'd took the rod out of the rest and rolled it over for Toothless to start to rip into.
The humans of the group watched in a stunned silence as Hiccup clawed and tore at his meal. And couldn't entirely fathom what was happening as they watched Hiccup use his teeth to rip pieces off this original chuck, and the blood and drool dripping off his chin and onto his legs. The sight wasn't helped by Toothless being snout deep into his meal. Ripping and tearing at his meal with the same ferocity as his human.
The other dragons waited for their humans to eat before eating themselves. But once that had happened they were suddenly surrounded by giant beasts doing just the same as Hiccup and Toothless.
The first to adapt was Stoick. Taking his salmon that had been roasting over the fire into his hands, and after bouncing it around while blowing on it he took a look at it. Finding what he thought would be a good spot he opened his mouth and took a big bite out of the side. He chewed for a few seconds before reaching into his mouth to pull out a couple of pin bones. But now that he'd opened the fish's skin up he was able to pull it apart the rest of the length, remove the pin bones and enjoy his meal. But not to be shown up the others joined in soon after, biting into their respective meats and fish.
The feast finished quickly after the initial bite, bellies full and soft, lackadaisical smiles on everyone who could. A quiet, relaxed calm spread over the group. Even Hiccup let himself lay heavily against his mate, eyes closed with slow and even breathes. The only noise being the fire, and the low growling breathing the dragons made.
Toothless found himself quite happy watching Hiccup. As usual. With an additional feeling of relief knowing Hiccup didn't have anything on his mind. The dragon semi-awkwardly tucked his tail between his legs and rested it on Hiccup's lap. Hiccup's hands set to work, slowly running them up and down what was available to him. He slid his fingers down the leathery webbing of the dragon's tail fin. Making the dragon purr into his ear. Unfortunately having his tail like that quickly became uncomfortable and he unceremoniously ripped it away from Hiccup's hands.
"Sorry." Toothless whispered in Hiccup's ear. "I couldn't hold my tail like that much longer." Hiccup turned his head and kissed the bottom of Toothless' chin.
"You're fine." He whispered back. "If you'd like, I'll rub your belly if you flip onto your back." Hiccup offered.
"Mmm." The dragon hummed. "As much as I would love that right now, I'm afraid little Toothless would give everyone a show. As much as I wouldn't care if the humans weren't here. But something tells me your father, or the others would like to see my fifth leg." Toothless chuckled.
"Maybe you should just learn to control yourself around me." Hiccup turned around fully and kissed at Toothless' side. Toothless smiled down at his mate.
"Maybe you should learn to stop being so attractive. Then maybe I would be able to control myself, and not get so worked up by knowing you simply exist."
"I could be the ugliest thing ever and you'd still think nothing could beat my looks. So I don't think there's any helping you in that regard." Hiccup placed his hands on Toothless' side and splayed his fingers out, and stared at his hands.
"Something on your mind?" Toothless asked. "Or just interested in your own hands all of a sudden?"
"Hmm, no. Just kinda thinking about how different we are."
"Hiccup." Toothless lightly scolded.
"It's okay. I'm not having an identity crisis again. Just thinking about how we ended up so different looking from each other. Pretty much complete opposites. From color to species, and a thousand other things. Just find it interesting is all." Hiccup smiled up at his mate.
"Our eyes are close in color."
"That's true." Hiccup chuckled. "But that's about it isn't it?"
"Well yeah, on the outside maybe. But it's what's on the inside that counts doesn't it? We share things like a love for each other, and having the same goals. We don't need the color of our scales to be the same do we, or to be the same species?"
"Well no. But I'm also not thinking about it that deeply bud. I know it's what's on the inside that counts. I just think it's interesting that we look so different."
"Oh, sorry. I guess I read into that a bit too much huh?"
"A little. But you didn't know. For all you knew I was about to go down a dark road with that." Hiccup brought all his fingers back together, then spread them out again. "Toothless you know you don't have to defend 'us' so much. I'm stuck with you whether I like it or not."
"I hope it never comes to the not part of that."
"Something tells me it won't. It's kinda funny. Recently I've been thinking about where'd we be or what we'd be doing if we weren't soulmates. Like, would we even be together. And if we were, would it be the same? Or because we probably couldn't talk to each other would there be a lot of strain on our relationship. Plus what kind of relationship would we have. Would we still be mates you think? Or just friends, or something in between?
Kinda fun to think about the different challenges we'd be having.
