The group looked at each other, confused about what to do. Eventually, Bulma sighed. "Okay, so… I guess Jazz was telling the truth."
"What are you talking about?" Goku asked.
"He said he's not from here."
"Not from Earth? Is he an alien?"Goku asked, confused, "Is that why he doesn't have a tail?"
"NO, he was from Earth, just… not from ours. I guess… I think he used the Dragon Balls to return, but they couldn't help, so he wished to be sent somewhere where he could get help or return home." Bulma gripped her forehead in annoyance, "he could have at least said goodbye though…"
Goku looked up at the sky, where the dragon balls disappeared off to. "...It will be hard trying to find the dragon balls by myself."
"Don't worry." Bulma gave Goku the dragon radar and smiled, "I don't need the dragon balls anymore, so you can have them."
"I just need my Grandpa's ball, I don't need others." Goku took the radar, "thanks Bulma!"
Yamcha took out a capsule and tossed it in the distance, releasing a plane. At the same time, Bulma looked at Goku. "Aww, man… I wanted to show you and Jazz off in the city, two cute but tough little guys would probably wow all the girls. You wanna come to the city though?" She asked.
"Nah, I wan to train with Grandpa Kamesennin, that Krillin guy I met, he's really strong, and he was holding back."
"Stronger than you while still holding back?" Yamcha whistled in appreciation.
"Yup! I wanna be strong, strong like him then even stronger and stronger."
"Oh well, that's a shame Goku." Bulma sighed, "so, Oolong, what about you?"
"Are there a lot of cute girls?" He asked.
"Well yeah, some almost as cute as me, but you're a pervert, so they probably won't like you." Bulma laughed.
"That's what you think!" Oolong followed Bulma, Yamcha, and Puar to the ship.
"Hey, Goku?" Bulma called out, "you okay?"
Goku nodded, "yup! Jazz is trying to get home, so I hope he's doing alright, but otherwise, if he didn't ask for our help, then I think it's okay!"
Bulma nodded, "mmm… that makes sense, okay, fine." She nodded. "Well then." They got ready to take off, at the same time, Goku called upon Kintoun, and the two groups, Goku and Kintoun in one group, and Bulma, Yamcha, Puar, and Oolong in the other, split, heading their separate ways and to their separate but connected futures.
Watching as they left, the Ox-King moved through his rubble, attempting to find anything salvageable and assessing the damage, he turned to his daughter Chi-Chi.
"How's my little princess doing?" He asked.
"I'm doing well daddy!" Chi-Chi smiled, then held her hands to her cheeks, "Goku was so daring and brave when he dove towards that fire, I felt like my heart would stop!" She blushed, "I wanna meet him again one day! Can you train me?"
The Ox-king smiled as he petted his daughter's head. "Of course dear!"
…
Goku first traveled back home, gathering a futon and a change of clothes before flying to Master Roshi's island.
He arrived to see Roshi gawking at an exercise video full of young women in leotards.
"GRANDPA ROSHI!" He shouted loudly, shocking the old man.
"O-Oh?! Goku?! Back so soon? I'm almost done with my video, so you can just sit over there." Roshi randomly gestured.
Goku, who had been hungry enough that he ate before arriving, sat. "Hey, where's-"
He was cut off by a rush of shushes. Goku turned and flinched in surprise. "K-Krillin?!" He saw the shaved monk sitting on the opposite end of Goku, he was attempting to meditate it seemed. "What are you doing here?" He asked.
"Training, isn't that why you came?" Krillin retorted.
Goku nodded, "but Roshi's…"
"Yeah, he can be like that, you just gotta go with the flow and wait a bit."
True to Krillin's words, Roshi finally finished his show and approached Goku. "So, Goku, you want to train under me?"
"Yeah! I want to get stronger and stronger!" Goku shouted excitedly.
"Even stronger than me eh?" He asked. Goku simply chuckled good-naturedly. Roshi looked around for a bit then asked, "eh? Where's that Bulma girl?"
"She went back home to the city!"
"Oh, oh well, wait…" Roshi shouted to the sky, "Darn it, that promise! The promise to get rid of the fire around FryPan Mountain! I completely forgot in the excitement!" He stamped the floor, "errg…" then he turned to Goku, who simply turned his head in confusion.
"Hey… Goku, first training, I'll need you to get me a...special type of gal…"
"Huh?" Goku asked, confused, "what do you mean?"
"Y'know… Pichii Pichii, energetic, and a little p-plump…"
"I mean, I don't know why you need all that, but okay." Goku flew off.
Roshi smirked. "Good… good…"
Krillin returned to meditating. Thirty minutes later…
"HIIIIIEEEEE?!"
"?!" Krillin rushed outside to see Roshi implanted in the ground a giant of a woman wielding 100-pound dumbbells walking away angrily. "Master Roshi?!" He ran over to the old man.
"...I just asked if she had any pretty friends…" Roshi mumbled in a daze, eventually, his eyes cleared and he fixed his gaze on Krillin.
"Boy!" He shouted, looking at Krillin. "You have common sense, right?!"
Krillin nodded, confused. "Umm… yeah…"
"Help this kid get a pretty girl for me!" Roshi ushered Krillin towards Goku. "Go go go go go!"
…
"Master Roshi is funny sometimes, right?" Goku laughed as they flew on the Kintoun.
"...Yeah, he's a funny guy." Krillin looked around. "Man… I wanted to keep training." He groaned.
"Isn't this training?" Goku asked.
"I mean, it shouldn't be that hard to find a girl."
"Oh? What about that one! Do you think Grandpa Roshi would like them?" Goku pointed to a definitively male farmer, dark skin, a large scraggly beard, and a stocky body.
"That's a man… are you… special?" Krillin asked suspiciously.
"Wow, you can tell just by looking at someone? That's AMAZING!" Goku gushed.
"C-can you not tell?" Krillin began to think Roshi was actually trying to train Goku.
"Yeah… I normally used to just pat them in the crotch to figure it out, but Bulma hit me whenever I did.."
"YEAH, I WOULD TOO…" Krillin declared.
"And Jazz explained that it's kinda rude and I should just ask. Oh, by the way-"
"I'm a boy!" Krillin yelled. "Geez, this is actually training then…"
They continued to search the countryside, and everyone Goku recommended was either too short, too fat, or a man.
"I don't get it…" Goku looked tired, "we've been looking for girls, but you keep saying every single one isn't any good."
"That's 'cause you've been going to the wrong clubs!" Krillin growled. They had made their way towards a city and caused quite a stir flying through. "We went to a boxing club, a sports bar, a burger place, you won't find a lot of girls there!" He turned towards a store called "Harriet's Sewing Circle." He pointed at it, "That looks perfect! There are probably a lot of girly girls there! Doing all sorts of girly stuff."
Krillin was half right, the people in the store were doing girly stuff, though the majority of people were men dressed in leather jackets with spikey shoulders.
"Wow… these look like really fun girls!" Goku said in wonder.
This caused the men to angrily turn towards the two kids. "What did you call us?!" One of the men growled.
"Oh, sorry, you're guys?" Goku asked innocently, "I couldn't tell!"
…
Krillin and Goku searched the city, and eventually, Goku decided to search the desert, reasoning that Yamcha had apparently been looking for a girl, and found them, namely Bulma, in the desert. Krillin thought it was a stupid idea until they ran into a cute, dark-blue-haired girl with wide, doe-like eyes and a bright red ribbon in her hair. She had been chased by men in uniforms wielding guns, but it took Goku a matter of seconds to defeat them.
Krillin raised his eyebrows in astonishment, even he was hesitant to charge men wielding guns, but Goku went after them immediately. 'He's a little faster than when I last saw him…' Krillin thought.
After thanking them profusely, the girl, who named herself Launch, let them escort her to Roshi's island.
'She's really cute…' Krillin thought back to his goal and his conversation with Jazz…
The two training partners sat down, it was nearly sunset, but they still had a bit more of the agreed-upon training time left.
"Geez, that was close y'know, you nearly beat me there." Krillin was leaning against a bunch of bamboos.
Jazz simply lay on the floor, gasping for air and groaning in pain. His wrists and ankles were colored purple, bruised from his tactic. In an attempt to gain a win, he rushed into a headlong charge, and instead of striking with his fists, he used the weights on his arms and legs to strike at Krillin. Krillin was used to such a tactic, what he wasn't used to was Jazz grabbing a part of bamboo to adjust his position mid-strike and aim for the back of Krillin's head. With almost superhuman reflex, Krillin leaned forward, ducking under the blow, but he rose too soon, and as he quickly got up he accidentally head-butted Jazz's groin.
"…hahaha… don't placate me." Jazz groaned in the effort, rising and resting on his elbows. "Geez, are you sure your skull isn't made of steel or rock?"
Krillin laughed. "People have said I'm pretty hard-headed."
"Yeah, yeah…" Jazz closed his eyes and lay down again.
They rested in silence, observing the world around them darkened as the sunset. "Hey…" Krillin began nervously.
"What's up?" Jazz replied.
"Why do you train, why do you want to be a great Martial Artist?"
Krillin observed as Jazz knit his eyes in concentration. "Mmm… I don't know." Jazz began. "I mean, to get stronger I guess, I don't really know yet."
"You don't know?" Krillin asked.
"Well, I mean… it's sort of weird, Krillin, if you could wish for anything, what would it be?"
Krillin gulped nervously, "ah… well, I wanna be popular with girls."
"Oh?" Jazz replied.
"It's not weird?"
"Wanting affection from those you are attracted to is never bad. It's normally just about how you go about seeking affection." Jazz pointed at the sky, "so you want to be a famous martial artist to attract the attention of girls? You can do that, as long as you work hard and achieve your desired results, you can use anything as a catalyst."
"Really?" Krillin asked.
"Of course, just remember, ultimately, your desire stems from you, so you must remember that your contentment and progress are the most important part of the equation. You train and improve yourself, for yourself, and not for anyone else."
"Wow, that sounds pretty wise? Where'd you hear that?" Krillin asked.
"From a Fortune Cookie." Jazz replied.
…
Krillin's desire to be thought of as cool to girls hadn't gone away, but after the talk with Jazz, he did try to act a bit more thoughtful about things. He would have originally been resentful of Goku, who attracted Roshi's attention and was even mentioned by name by Roshi while he was training, but after fighting against Goku, Krillin couldn't help but appreciate Goku's talent. He looked forward to the long road they would walk together as Roshi's disciple.
They arrived on the island with Launch. And Roshi jumped for joy. When Launch turned away for a few seconds.
"Good job boys, Krillin, we'll return to the island starting tomorrow. But for now, we'll begin the first parts of training for Goku and Launch here."
"Training? For me?" Launch asked, confused. "I've never done martial arts before."
"No, no," Roshi shook his head sagely, "Even if you aren't going to be a dedicated martial artist, light training can do wonders for anyone, it will help with your health, blood circulation, and can even help you remain youthful in appearance and spirit."
Launch nodded, "umm… okay!"
Roshi smiled as he returned to his house. "Also! I have uniforms for all of you!"
The boys cheered with excitement and Launch smiled in anticipation.
Their excitement died when Master Roshi returned with the uniforms, a black leotard with pink lace frills. Krillin's eyes narrowed as he turned to Launch, then at Master Roshi's straight face. 'I mean, she's cute, but still…'
Launch looked confused and skeptical. "Are you sure…" she didn't finish her statement, seeing that Roshi had already put on the uniform.
The others changed their uniform.
"I mean it's pretty flexible," Goku said, stretching. The suit had no separation between top and bottom so he had to cut a hole for his tail.
They began doing light stretching, which lasted for a while until Launch felt a hair land across her nose. "AH…" she began. "Ah…ah…AH-CHOO!"
The boys widened their eyes as Launch's hair turned from dark blue to blonde and her eyes seemed to narrow and sharpen. Before the men stood Launch, but the shape of her eyes and hair color was different enough that it gave the impression of a different person. If the previous Launch could be described as a demure, precious, gentle girl, this Launch gave off a cool, mysterious, and icy feeling.
"L-Launch?" Krillin asked hesitantly.
The blonde young woman looked around imperiously at the group, then she looked down upon her clothes. Nearly in the same instant, Launch took out an uzi and began to fire at the shocked group with surprising levels of accuracy.
"Damn bastards!" She shouted angrily, eventually, a fly landed near her nose. "Ah! Fuck! Ah-CHOO!" Before their eyes, Launch sneezed again, her hair morphed back. She looked around, confused, then dropped the uzi in shock. "Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry! When I sneeze, my personality shifts! You guys aren't hurt, are you?"
Krillin and Roshi were bleeding all over from where they barely dodged the bullets, and Goku was covered in dark purple bruises. All three groaned in pain.
…
Roshi was surprised. When he brought Goku and Krillin to the larger island to train, he was surprised by how competitive yet friendly they were with each other even after only a day of training. He first had them jog after him on a milk delivery through the island then farm a few acres of untilled soil with their bare hands, and while he expected Krillin to not be too exhausted, Goku was almost about as efficient, of course, Goku wasn't using the weighted turtle shell yet, but Roshi believed he'd be able to implement that part of the training almost immediately.
"You boys are really blowing my expectations out of the water!" Roshi laughed in amazement as he sat the two winded boys down. "Well… it's good that both of you have honed your bodies so much, Krillin, you're just as impressive as the day you came to my Island, and Goku, you never cease to amaze me, you both have great potential."
Goku and Krillin turned to each other excitedly. Then to Master Roshi.
"But, it's not just your body and senses we need to train." Roshi handed the two books. "We'll have to train your minds. Goku, start on page 12."
Goku opened the book and scanned the pages, "'umm… ahh, that tickles! You can't do that, mom will be coming home soon, said Margaret. But Bob Forcefully…'"
"Master Roshi?" Krillin asked.
"Yes, my disciple?"
"What are we reading?"
"Why… it's my fanfiction romance novel. It's based on the 'Radiant' Series. It suddenly became one of the best-selling series in America in its own right." He smirked, "We Renamed it 'One Shade of Blue'."
…
They finished the day's training and went to bed after being told they'd move to the 20kg turtle shell backpacks sooner than thought. Krillin was already used to such a weight, and Goku had used the 10 lb weights in his wrists and ankles for a while so he was somewhat accustomed to the idea of using heavyweights. Despite that the lack of anxiety for tomorrow's training, Krillin couldn't sleep.
'Fanfiction?' He thought incredulously.
'Who the heck would ever write fanfiction?!'

Afterword: To my fellow Americans who don't have the time to convert, 20 kg is 44.0925 lbs. Goku used 4 weights across his body at 10 lbs each for a little bit, of course, it was almost negligible, but Goku is naturally very quick in growing. Also the fanfiction comment, hopefully you all get the joke, just a bit of a dig at myself haha. But also, sorry for the long delay, I've been bogged down by work. The next chapter should come really soon, within the next hour actually, as I'd been working on both in tandem actually. Also, the words Goku read? That's in the Dragon ball manga, check out Volume 3, Chapter 31 in original Dragon Ball. Master Roshi was an astoundingly fiendish pervert.
